Larry Holmes claims Anthony Joshua would have KNOCKED OUT Mike Tyson in his prime.

Anthony Joshua ‘would have knocked out a prime Mike Tyson’ claims former heavyweight champion.

Former heavyweight champion Larry Holmes believes Anthony Joshua would have been able to knock out Mike Tyson in his prime.

Tyson (50-6-2 record in boxing, 44 knockouts) is regarded as arguably the greatest “fighter” in boxing, gaining notoriety for his early knockout wins and intimidating demeanour.

“Iron Mike” was also a heavyweight champion from 1986 to 1990, a period generally regarded by the combat world as his prime years, before his first-ever defeat at the hands of Buster Douglas.

Holmes was one of Tyson’s victims in 1988 as he was knocked out in the fourth round of their title fight in New Jersey.

However, Holmes believes Joshua would have been able to knock out “The Baddest Man on the Planet” in his prime.

“If he fought a guy like Mike Tyson, he’d win,” Holmes said, as quoted by The Express. “He would have knocked out a prime Mike Tyson. There’s no reckon about it.

“Mike Tyson went down low and then came up and tried to throw roundhouses. But Joshua would just hit him with a straight right hand on the side of his damn chin and Mike wouldn’t get up.

“He never fought anyone who was coming up and trying to make their way in the sport. He just went in there – bang, bang, bang and knocked everyone out. That’s how he got the reputation as a puncher.

“I’m not taking anything away from Mike Tyson – he kicked my a**. But I was out for two years, I had quit boxing, I hadn’t done anything for two years apart from sing with the band and travel.”

Holmes, who recently also claimed that the Briton had the potential to become “one of the greatest fighters of all time”, also warned Joshua against overtraining for his title defence.

“If you run too much, lift weights too much or box too much, you can overtrain,” Holmes added. “You’ve got to take it round-by-round and take your days off.”

  • What Bob Sapp said when punching Mike Tyson: “Tyson is afraid to fight me”

What Bob Sapp said when punching Mike Tyson: “Tyson is afraid to fight me”

Bob Sapp has gone in on Mike Tyson for not fighting him.

MMA veteran Bob Sapp made his professional debut in 2002 under Pride before moving on to K-1 where he would enjoy a successful brief run. His career spanned 16 years with his final outings coming in 2018.

Although he won his retirement fight against Abdelrahman Shalan in September 2018, ‘The Beast’ dropped 17 of his previous 18 outings with 14 of those losses coming in a row including 15 overall defeats by KO or TKO finishes.

Sapp recently made headlines for a video he uploaded online where he took aim at Mike Tyson. The 48-year-old said that he would rip out the boxing Hall of Famer’s heart in hopes of setting up an exhibition bout.

Bob Sapp says he brought Tyson out of retirement.

In an interview with MMAnytt.se, Bob Sapp detailed the origins of his beef with Tyson and talked about the potential showdown claiming he brought Tyson out of retirement.

“We first got involved in 2003 in Las Vegas,” Bob Sapp said. “There was some pushing and shoving when I met him at the Bellagio. I am responsible for bringing him out of retirement. It’s impossible for anyone to be a Mike Tyson fan without them being a Bob Sapp fan, because I’m the guy that brought him out of retirement! Nobody would be talking about him at all if it wasn’t for me!”

‘Iron’ Mike marked his return to boxing in an exhibition bout with the former four-division world champion Roy Jones Jr in November 2020. Sapp alleged that he was the initial opponent who was supposed to fight Tyson and that Jones was found as a replacement to cut him out of the lucrative deal.

Sapp was supposed to be Tyson’s original opponent when he made his anticipated return. Tyson finally ended up fighting former four-division world champion Roy Jones Jr. in November 2020, but according to Sapp, this bout was done to leave him out of the multimillion dollar deal. Sapp partly blames Tyson’s manager and brother-in-law Azheem Spicer but ultimately points a finger at Tyson for being too scared to take the figh

‘The Beast’ claims Mike Tyson is scared of him

Sapp fired shots at Azheem Spicer, Tyson’s manager, and brother-in-law, for giving him the stick but also claimed that Tyson was frightened at the idea of fighting him.

“They decided to draw up some scheme in which they decided to circumvent me because [Tyson] is very scared to fight me,” Sapp said. “I got him from 10 million to 20 million and then the price raised to 50 million, and we ended up selling at 30 million dollars with the PPV that would take it up to 50 million. However, it never worked out because Azheem wanted millions of dollars to go straight to his pocket, and then with Tyson being so scared and all, these price increases came after he saw a picture of what I looked like.

“The guy is truly truly truly scared. We understand that he is scared because of how I look and how big I am. That’s kind of fucked up, but I understand that because all of these other guys are also scared.”

Sapp wants the bout to be in Thailand

‘The Beast’ lives up to his moniker maintaining an impressive physique, especially for his age, and receives plenty of attention for it. Sapp talked further about matching up against the other well-known behemoths in the entertainment industry for a similar showcase.

“Let’s talk about all the pros that have called me out, ones that are scared: Mike Tyson, Thor from Game of Thrones, Shaquille O’Neal, and Evander Holyfield. But we couldn’t understand what [Holyfield] was saying because he is punch drunk and is mumbling all the time. We don’t know if he accepted the offer or denied it because we couldn’t understand what he was saying! It was too dangerous to bring him into the ring because he is too punch drunk!”

Despite the other offers that may be on the table, Sapp is only looking to secure an outing with Tyson. He hinted at a plan to host the potential event in Thailand together with his close friend Samer Suojhayer, CEO of Yuth Sport Gear.

“We have gotten so many offers it is ridiculous. We are discussing how big this is gonna get! Bob Sapp vs Mike Tyson here in Thailand – Let’s go!”

  • Shocking statement Fury’s father John, 57, wants to KO Mike Tyson and claims he is in better shape than the icon despite ‘looking as fat as a pig’

Shocking statement Fury’s father John, 57, wants to KO Mike Tyson and claims he is in better shape than the icon despite ‘looking as fat as a pig’

John Fury has revealed he wants to KO Mike Tyson – even claiming he’s in better shape than the ripped boxing legend.

Iron Mike, 55, was subject to much speculation before his fight against Roy Jones Jr.

One fight he was linked with was against Tyson Fury’s dad – with John even calling out the American and saying he was ‘willing to DIE’ to beat him.

And Fury Snr revealed last June that while he may have looked ‘as fat as a pig’, he would win because he’s ‘lived cleaner’.

Tyson weighed in at a lean, mean 17st after a stunning body transformation as he prepared to step back into the ring.

Shannon Briggs and reigning WBA champion Tyson Fury himself were also linked with a Tyson scrap.

But he’s no match for 18st 7lbs John Fury – who named his world heavyweight champion son after Iron Mike – according to the man himself.

John said: “Listen, I’d like to have a go. You know, at the end of the day, I named my son after him, it would be a good thing.

“But I know one thing, he’ll be in no better shape than me.

“I tell you what it is, I’ve got the edge in shape because I’ve lived better, I’ve lived cleaner.

“Tyson, yeah, he was a great, great champion, probably one of the best there’s ever been.

“If anyone is going to come close to beating Tyson [Fury] in this era, that’s him.

“Mike Tyson has got a better chance than Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua at 53 years old.”

John Fury continued by saying he was eager to get into the ring with Tyson – and warned the former champ not to be fooled by his figure.

He continued: “But listen I’d like to have a go, because I’m big and strong and game and that’s all you need to be.

“He’s past his best. And me? The edge I’ve got is I’ve lived right.

    “I don’t drink, don’t smoke, I don’t do things I shouldn’t do and I train every day.

“Listen, we’re not body beautifuls. I look as fat as a pig but I can run ten miles – no problem, today.

“And I’m training all the time, and I’m fit and strong and game. And I’ve got a good heart.

“So if he knocks me out he knocks me out, but I’ll try and knock him out, let’s put it that way.

“I’ll give my all. I’ll do the very best I can. I won’t be afraid to get in the ring, I won’t be beat before I’ve started. I’m going to give it my best shot.”

John went on to say that, with some coaching from son Tyson and his team, he’d happily step into the ring against TWO Iron Mikes.

    Fury Snr, now 57, continued: “I’m 18st 7lbs, I’m 55-years-old but I’m in great shape.

“Don’t drink, don’t smoke, don’t take nothing I shouldn’t do and I eat very, very well.

I’d get in with TWO Mike Tysons!

“Plus I’ve got him [Tyson Fury] to train me. I’ve got the best son in the world…

“And if I start sparring with him, and big Shane and my Hughie and Tommy, I’ve got a good chance of beating anybody with that kind of backing.

“With that kind of team, I’d get in with two Mike Tysons!”

  • Mike Tyson would knockout sparring partners quickly so he could get home and watch Tom and Jerry

Mike Tyson would knockout sparring partners quickly so he could get home and watch Tom and Jerry

Mike Tyson apparently used to make a habit out of battering his training partners as quickly as possible – not to test his skills, but instead to get home in time to watch Tom & Jerry.

Well, so says Tyson’s former bodyguard and chauffeur Rudy Gonzales, who claims that the legendary boxer often used to condense his gruelling five-hour sparring sessions into just 60 minutes so he could high-tail it out of there early to watch cartoons.

In his book, The Inner Ring – which is itself being developed into an animated feature film – Gonzales explained: “When we trained in Vegas his sparring sessions were from 12 to 5pm.

“He would be the nicest guy beforehand asking the sparring partners: ‘How you doing today, how’s the family?’

“Then he would just knock out five guys all out within an hour so there was nobody left.

“I saw him punch the heavy bag so hard it broke a few times from the chains and the other boxers would just leave saying: ‘We are not f*****g with you today. I do not care how much money you pay me’.

“Anyone who felt they were up for taking him on, he would hit them and they’d just snap. Soon after they would pack their bags.

“So one day I asked: ‘Boss I am confused, isn’t this about working on techniques?

“He replied: ‘If I keep it going we will miss Tom & Jerry cartoons.’”

The comments resurfaced recently leaving people equally bewildered.

    You couldn’t make it up.

Still, there is form for this – Tyson has never been shy about his love of cartoons, even going as far as to help create and star in his own animated series.

Mike Tyson Mysteries sees the former heavyweight champ hop in a van and travel the world, righting wrongs and solving mysteries. It was a surprise hit and ran for four seasons on Adult Swim before being unceremoniously cancelled in September 2020.

Gonzalez claimed in a recent interview with The Sun that during his peak, Tyson used to be so scared of killing his opponents in the ring that he often needed to have sex with groupies before fights to ‘diminish his power’ and take the edge off his rage.

“His biggest fear was that he would kill someone in that ring,’ Gonzalez said.

“He knew he could do it. So I had girls tucked away in bathrooms and changing rooms.

“Sometimes he’d go in with them for a minute, bang the s**t out of them, snap his neck and say: ”Okay this guy is going to live tonight.”’

The latest editions of The Inner Ring: The Set-Up of Mike Tyson and the Uncrowning of Don King Paperback are on sale now.

Mike Tyson’s shocking prediction: Ngannou vs. Jaws of Fury – A potential KO of epic proportions (Video)

Former undisputed world champion Mike Tyson is regarded as one of the most feared punchers in the history of the heavyweight division.

The retired boxer, 57-years-old, is currently the head trainer of former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, who is preparing for his crossover boxing match against WBC world champion Tyson Fury.

The non-title contest takes place on October 28 in Saudi Arabia.

Ngannou was widely regarded as a big puncher in MMA, but he’s never fought with boxing gloves.

Tyson has been impressed with the punching power and overall abilities of Ngannou.

“I am helping Ngannou. I am learning what he is able to do. He’s able to do so much more than I anticipated. He has what it takes to knockout anything or anybody standing in his way. Once he lands a punch on Tyson Fury’s jaw he is going to knock him out too. Nobody can survive that,” Tyson explained to The Daily Mail.

Tyson made a very successful career of knocking opponents out – and now he’s trying to pass on the same tools to Ngannou.

“My philosophy for fighting people and knocking them out was just put as much pressure on them as I could,” Tyson said. “It was just pressure, pressure, pressure. Make them make mistakes and then counter with a knockout. Simple as that.”

While many have been highly critical of Fury’s decision to fight Ngannou – Tyson sees no issue with his decision.

“He’s taking advantage of his celebrity status. Why does he always have to jump to the boxing administration? Can they give him time to make some money and put some bank roll away? He’s making some money for his family. ‘Let me do what I need to do and then when it’s time to box I will box. Boxing people need to keep out of my personal business.’ Fury’s not the all-time great but he’s one of the all-time greats. He’s really high up. He can do greatness right now,” Tyson said.

“He’s always going to bring a good night of boxing, fight hard. You’ve got to try and hit him with a shot to knock him cold out because he always gets back up and fights hard.”

shocking what Mike Tyson said about the greatest heavyweight performance of all time

From his stunning upset loss to Buster Douglas to his controversial two fight series with Evander Holyfield, former undisputed heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson has been involved in some of the most memorable match ups in the long and storied history of the blue ribbon division.

The run in Tyson’s early career that saw him destroy the likes of Trevor Berbick, Pinklon Thomas and Larry Holmes and featured some of the most impressive performances from a heavyweight that century.

However ‘Iron Mike’ has listed a showing by one of the current champions as perhaps the greatest from a heavyweight the sport has ever seen.

In a recent interview with Daily Mail Sport, Tyson directed some of the highest praise possible towards WBC belt holder Tyson Fury for his victory over Wilder in 2019, in the second of their memorable three fight saga.

“I thought that was one of, if not the greatest performance of all time. These guys are really doing it for boxing, him and Mr Wilder.”

    They’re making boxing.”

For all his gushing over Fury, Tyson is currently trying to formulate a plan to defeat him, as he trains former UFC champion Francis Ngannou for his crossover bout with ‘The Gypsy King,’ which takes place in Saudi Arabia on October 28th.

In the eyes of most, Ngannou could have Cus D’Amato, Freddie Roach and Manny Steward in his corner and it would still not be enough to give him a credible chance of beating Fury on what will be his professional boxing debut.

Should Fury see off ‘The Predator’ in comfortable fashion as is expected, a long awaited undisputed clash against Oleksandr Usyk lays in waiting.

He has now offered an update on his condition to concerned followers on X.

Iron Mike wrote: “Now feeling 100% even though I don’t need to be to beat Jake Paul.”

He is set to fight Paul on July 20 at the AT&T Arena in Arlington, Texas.

There were obvious fears as to whether the fight would go ahead yesterday after Tyson’s health scare.

With Paul aged 27, Tyson is more than 30 years older than his adversary and there is concerns for Tyson’s health.

After paramedics rushed to Tyson’s flight from Miami to LA, a source told the New York Post: “He became nauseous and dizzy due to an ulcer flare up 30 minutes before landing.

“He is appreciative to the medical staff that were there to help him.”

“They asked us to stay on the plane and landed so paramedics could enter. [The stewardess] said something like, ‘He’s a really important passenger so we wanna make sure he’s OK.’ I knew it was him, but I just mouthed the words ‘Mike Tyson’ and she nodded her head yes.”

Tyson previously said that he suffers from the nerve condition sciatica in the past, and that the condition has left him unable to walk and talk on occasion.

The latest chapter of the former Disney star’s boxing career has sparked outrage as he’ll be 31 YEARS Tyson’s junior come fight night.

Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather is far from a fan of the youngest Paul brother but admits he can’t knock his hustle of taking on older fighters for boatloads of cash.

The former five-weight world champion told Treasure Hustle: “What he’s doing is kinda cool.

“If he can continue to steal money and they match him the way they match him, I can’t knock his hustle.

“If they can match him the way that they have been, more power to him.”

There were fears the fight would be cancelled after Tyson suffered a health scare during a flight from Miami to Los Angeles last Sunday.

Tyson’s ulcer flare-up prompted a slew of big-name fighters – including Ryan Garcia – to put themselves forward to replace him.

And three-time UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen has sensationally claimed he’s already contracted to replace Tyson should he pull out of the bout.

He wrote on X: “I guess it was wise of Jake Paul to write me into the contract as Tyson’s backup, wasn’t it???

‘Kid Dynamite’, as he was known back then, racked up an incredible 12 first-round KO finishes in a mere eight months to put the division’s old heads on notice.

That incredible run of stoppages made Tyson’s future opponents fear for their safety before the opening bell rang.

But he was an intimidating force long before he made his professional debut under the watchful eye of former mentor Cus D’Amato.

Irish hardman and now-retired boxer Joe Egan learned first-hand of Tyson’s ferociousness when he sparred the boxing icon as a fresh-faced teenager.

And their wars in the gym live long in the memory.

He told talkSPORT: “I’d left school when I was 14 years of age and I’d been on the doors of nightclubs at 15 years of age.

“When I met Mike I was 17 and I had been fighting men so when I got the opportunity to spar another 17-year-old I was over the moon.

“Mike was several months younger than me, he was shorter than me and he spoke with a bit of a lisp and I thought ‘I’m going to batter this kid’.

“When we got to the gym, suddenly all these big powerhouses appeared, all of them very sombre because they knew what was coming.

“They knew the beatings that were going to be dished out by this young heavyweight. I thought they’re all going to box together and then me and Mike are going to box together.”

Egan knew he was in trouble when he got a glimpse of Tyson’s hulking frame, which most fully grown men would’ve envied.

He continued: “We stripped off, shadow boxed, bandaged up and Cus said ‘glove up’. Then I saw Mike in the ring stripped to his waist.

“The physique on the 17-year-old boy, the biceps, the triceps, the neck, the chest, the back.

“I thought ‘there is no way a 17-year-old boy should look like that, that’s not the same boy I ran with this morning and met yesterday, that’s not the same boy I sat with on the mini bus, laughing and joking’.

“Then Cus pointed to one of the big men to get in and spar, he was knocked spark out with one punch. I’m not ashamed to say it, but I ruined a good pair of underpants in that moment.

“I s*** myself. Two more got in, two more got knocked out. I was number four, I got battered for three minutes, but I stayed on my feet.

“I got out, a couple more got in, they lasted as long as they lasted, I got in again. I did six minutes with him that day and took six minutes of punishment.”

The other terrorised all in the ring in the 1980s and 1990s, famously biting the ear off an opponent in one fight.

Iron Mike has rebuilt his life after squandering a £300m fortune with a cannabis empire, and is a huge advocate of the drug.

And as Paul has continued to rise up the ranks, he has splashed the cash on a fleet of amazing cars.

Whereas Tyson had more money than sense until a £15m debt saw him part with his cherished car collection.

Paul now lives in a plush mansion worth £13m in Puerto Rico, after escaping his hectic life in LA.

But these days, Tyson lounges in his Vegas property he paid £2.5m for with wife Lakiha, who he married in 2009.

Paul is not yet married but is smitten with his speed skater girlfriend  Jutta Leerdam.

She will be by his side when her man puts his 9-1 boxing record on the line against two-time heavyweight champ Tyson on July 20.

Despite never getting the better of Tyson in sparring, Egan has fond memories of their time together.

“He said: “I never got the better of him, he battered me many times, made me cry so many times.

“But it was an honour and privilege to share the ring with him because of what he went on and achieved.”

The former world champion suffered a medical emergency on board a flight this week as a result of an ulcer flare up.

Netflix, who were set to show the fight, released a statement announcing the cancellation.

It reads: “Unfortunately Jake Paul and Mike Tyson will not face-off on July 20 as planned. Tyson’s recent ulcer flare up has limited his ability to train fully for the next few weeks.

“The fight will be rescheduled for a date later this year after Mike’s able to resume training with no limitations and both fighters can have equal time to prepare for this once-in-a-lifetime matchup!”

Tyson required medical assistance from paramedics on board a flight from Miami to LA earlier this week.

He felt nauseous and dizzy though his publicist said he was feeling “very good” after treatment.

Iron Mike took to social media claiming he was feeling 100 per cent and ready to take on Paul.

But a top doctor recommended the 57-year-old postpone the fight, suggesting ulcer flare ups require four to five weeks of rest to recover from.

He said in a statement: “I want to thank my fans around the world for their support and understanding during this time.

“Unfortunately , due to my ulcer flareup, I have been advised by my doctor to lighten my training for a few weeks to rest and recover.

“My body is in better overall shape than it has been since the 1990s and I will be back to my full training schedule soon.

“Jake Paul, this may have bought you some time but in the end you will still be knocked out and out of boxing for good.

“I appreciate everyone’s patience and can’t wait to deliver an unforgettable performance later this year.”

Paul also spoke on the postponement, promising an exciting clash when they do eventually meet in the ring.

He said: “I fully support postponing the event so Mike Tyson has no excuses come fight night.

“My fans know I don’t want to face Iron Mike at anything but his best, but let there be no mistake – when he steps into the ring with me, I will be ready to claim my W with a sensational finish.

“Paul vs Tyson will be one for the ages and I promise to bring my best for this once-in-a-lifetime matchup.”
