Tyson Fury claims he would beat a prime Mike Tyson and lists himself as No1 heavyweight in the last thousand years: I’m the greatest fighter that has ever lived”

Tyson Fury asserts that he would easily defeat a prime Mike Tyson, as he considers himself the greatest heavyweight boxer of the past millennium.

If Fury triumphs over fellow Brit Anthony Joshua next year, he could potentially become the undisputed champion.

Fury is confident that he will eventually possess all four belts, and he believes that no legendary fighter could have posed a challenge to his dominance.

When specifically asked about the possibility of a fight against Iron Mike, the 31-year-old expressed his enthusiasm for such a matchup.

At the age of 53, Tyson is anticipated to make a remarkable comeback to the ring for an exhibition bout.

This announcement comes 33 years after Tyson became a legendary figure in boxing by becoming the youngest heavyweight champion in history.

When questioned about the potential outcome of a match between himself and Mike Tyson, Fury confidently stated to Steve Bunce on BT Sport: “No heavyweight from any era in the past thousand years could have faced me and defeated me. Not Mike Tyson from the 80s, Muhammad Ali, Joe Louis, Lennox Lewis, George Foreman, Ken Norton, Rocky Marciano, Floyd Patterson, Gene Tunney, Jem Mace, or John L. Sullivan.”

Tyson Fury confidently proclaimed, “I am the greatest fighter to have ever lived.” He continued by stating, “Even going back to the earliest days of boxing, none of them could have defeated the Gypsy King. I possess superior size, exceptional skills, and a diverse range of fighting styles that they simply couldn’t handle. Moreover, even if they had faced me, they wouldn’t have been able to defeat me. I truly believe I am the greatest fighter to have ever graced this sport, not just in the heavyweight division, but overall. How’s that for a touch of modesty?!”

Before the highly anticipated Battle of Britain with Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury is obligated to fulfill his contractual obligations and face Deontay Wilder for a third and final time. Additionally, there is a possibility that Fury may need to contend with mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte.

Promoter Eddie Hearn expressed concerns about the WBC potentially designating Fury as a “franchise” champion, stating, “We don’t want the WBC to grant Fury the ‘franchise’ champion status.”

George Foreman reveals why he never faced ‘monster’ Mike Tyson after making shock heavyweight comeback aged 38 in 1987

‘That guy was a nightmare in the ring, I didn’t want anything to do with him’: George Foreman reveals why he never faced ‘monster’ Mike Tyson after making shock heavyweight comeback aged 38 in 1987

George Foreman made a surprise return to the ring aged 38 after a decade away.

At that time, Mike Tyson, 21, held the WBC, WBA and IBF heavyweight belts.

There were ‘serious negotiations’ to make the high-profile fight happen. But Foreman has admitted Tyson was a ‘nightmare’ in the ring and a ‘monster’.

However, Foreman believes Tyson was frightened of facing him as well.

George Foreman has admitted he ‘didn’t want anything to do’ with ‘monster’ Mike Tyson when a fight between the two heavyweights was mooted in the late 1980s.

Two-time world champion Foreman was 38 in 1987 when he stunned the boxing world by announcing a comeback.

At that time, Tyson was only 21 but held the WBC, WBA and IBF belts, the first heavyweight boxer to have all three simultaneously.

But the showdown never materialised and Foreman has explained the reasons why.

‘That guy was a nightmare in the ring. I didn’t want anything to do with that guy,’ he told ESPN.

‘I didn’t want a part of Mike Tyson. He was a monster.

‘Those are the kind of guys you see in a nightmare. You want to wake up and say, ‘so glad that’s a dream.’

‘I didn’t want any part of Mike Tyson – no way.’

But Foreman said that Tyson felt the same way at the time: ‘He was scared and I was glad of that.’

Julius Francis Wants Mike Tyson Rematch After Bouncer’s One Punch KO Goes Viral

Francis, who was comfortably beaten by Tyson in their fight back in 2000, went viral on social media after knocking out a reveller who aggressively approached him while he was working as security for BoxPark near Wembley Stadium.

The 57-year-old, who last fought professionally in 2006, says he would be interested in taking on Tyson for a second time – 22 years after their first fight in Manchester.

Francis told TMZ: “I have a daughter that tells me ‘you’re not going to fight again’, and I think to myself ‘who would I fight?’

“Obviously people name Jake Paul or the other (Logan) Paul or whatever and it’s a mega fight blah blah blah.

“But them guys, they’re not in my category.”

When asked about a potential fight with Tyson, Francis added: “I’m going to put it out there. I’ve never liked talking about money but they could put up with a decent offer. Then, who knows.

“I’m going to put it out there. I’m going to say, yes. Yes, we can have a rematch. I don’t know if anybody will watch it, but I’m going to say, yes.”

Francis fought Tyson at the age of 35 and was knocked down five times during the bout as ‘Iron Mike’ won inside two rounds.

The British heavyweight also came up against the likes of Vitali Klitschko, Danny Williams and Audley Harrison during his career before retiring in 2006 with a professional record of 23-24-1.

After hanging up his gloves, he founded a fitness company and began working as a security guard.

He went viral last week for the altercation in Wembley, with BoxPark’s founder Roger Wade and heavyweight champion Tyson Fury leaping to his defence after the incident.

Wade wrote on LinkedIn: “Acts of violence or abuse to any staff members should never be tolerated. How would you react if someone approached you violently? What would you do next if you were in my shoes? #istandwithjulius.”

Fury added: “This guy is p****d up of whatever and had a few drinks, getting cheeky. These guys are doing their job and he’s attacking them… so he’s been chinned.

“And it’s a life lesson isn’t it. Never go out and be cheeky to big men. Because you’re probably going to get chinned sooner or later.

Police have confirmed they have dropped an investigation into the matter and Francis says he now feels “vindicated”.

“This crazy era of social media and popularity of people. I was actually vindicated by the way people on social media got behind me,” he added.

“To say that, we appreciate what you did, you were in the right. The guy deserved it and all this kind of stuff. I felt vindicated and it shows that people do still think about me and appreciate what I did during my boxing career.”

However, Francis has confirmed he is still off work after having his security licence suspended following the incident.

He added: “The security authority industry called the SIA actually suspended my licence to work.

“I can’t work at the moment, so I’m trying to get that sorted so I can get back to work as soon as possible.”

Conor McGregor issues three-word response to Anthony Joshua’s brutal second round knockout against Francis Ngannou

Conor McGregor has taken to social media to respond to Anthony Joshua’s second round knockout against Francis Ngannou on Friday night.

AJ showed his quality as he knocked Ngannou down for the first time in his career inside the first round.

The heavyweight proceeded to put Ngannou onto the canvas another two times as the fight was called off in the second round, with AJ winning by knockout.

McGregor, a huge supporter of Joshua, has taken to social media to react to the boxer’s knockout of his former UFC colleague Ngannou.

Replying to Joshua’s Instagram post, McGregor said: ‘Nah man, madness.’

McGregor was criticised last year for his chaotic display as he poured some stout down Joshua’s throat in the immediate aftermath of the British heavyweight’s KO win over Robert Helenius.

The UFC star was not in attendance on Friday night, however, as AJ overcame Ngannou, but the pair remain close.

Speaking ahead of his fight, Joshua revealed that he can take inspiration from McGregor.

‘He’s a larger-than-life character; he’s someone you can take inspiration from,’ Joshua told Matchroom Boxing.

‘Remember, you’re only here once and you’ve got to love and live life.

‘Each to their own but a lot of people are quiet, reserved and getting through life but he’s someone who’s at the forefront of life and living it to its full capacity and I love him for that.

‘There’s mileage in speaking to someone like Conor McGregor; even if it’s a small gem, something is better than nothing.

‘While you’re here, love, live life. Be confident, flamboyant, be an extrovert and don’t be shy. When it’s all said and done you only get one chance at life.’

Ryan Garcia: Troubled boxing star’s controversial life and career so far – including Canelo’s ‘wasted talent’ claims, love scandals, warring with his own promoters… and divorcing his ex-wife days after she gave birth

At just 25 years of age, American boxing star Ryan Garcia has already endured a turbulent life both inside and outside of the ring.

Despite not yet getting his hands on a world title, and coming up short in his only true mega-fight to date against arch-rival Gervonta Davis, Garcia’s good looks, flashy bravado and outspoken nature – plus the freakish one-punch knockout power he possesses in both hands – has made him a household name in US boxing.

Yet to add to his colorful fighting persona, the boy from California has also experienced enough highs and lows away from the sport to thrust himself even further into the spotlight.

The latest of those lows is a nadir which threatens to derail his career to the point of no return, and comes almost six weeks before he is set to compete for the WBC super-lightweight championship.

On Sunday, a disturbing video claiming Garcia was dead after having his ‘throat slit’ was shared to his social-media accounts, which marked the first of a series of troubling posts by the boxer over the next 72 hours.

After taking to social media himself the following day to suggest his phone was hacked, 24 hours later Garcia embarked on a troubling tirade on X; in which he alleged he was raped by a family member at the age of two, has photographic proof of aliens existing and has witnessed children being raped after being tied up in woodland by ‘the elites’.

He then continued his bizarre rant a day later, claiming an earthquake is set to ‘destroy’ Hollywood and Las Vegas while labelling X chief Elon Musk the ‘Antichrist’.

Many have been left deeply concerned by his erratic online activity, so much so that a large number of fans, ex-fighters and coaches are even calling for his bout against world super-lightweight champion Devin Haney on April 20 to be scrapped. Garcia, they fear, is in no fit state mentally to climb through the ropes.

At last week’s press conference in LA, an agitated and flustered Garcia admitted it often feels like the ‘weight of the world’ is on his shoulders after being forced to bat away accusations of cocaine use from rival Haney. ‘I don’t know how many people have been 25 years old and made $100million in their life and can do what they want,’ he told the champion. ‘I want to see what you would do in my shoes.’

This statement alone perfectly encapsulates the whirlwind journey Garcia, a millionaire in his early 20s, has already been on in the sport, and it has led to a string of controversies both in and out of the sport over the past eight years.

After a successful 230-fight amateur career, which saw him scoop 15 national titles, Garcia signed professional terms with boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions in November 2016 and quickly made a name for himself; winning eight straight contests by knockout while amassing a huge online by posting clips of his unique hand speed and punch power.

Two-and-a-half years and 18 fights into his pro career, and having linked up with esteemed Mexican trainer Eddy Reynoso, the fresh-faced boxing hopeful’s life changed dramatically when he became a father at just 20 years of age, with then-partner Catherine Gamez welcoming their first and only child together in March 2019.

No longer was he merely striving for personal glory when shedding blood sweat and tears in the gym. Now he had to put food on the table for a young daughter while carving out his professional journey, giving him an added incentive to reach the sport’s summit.

Shortly after sharing that special moment together, Garcia and Gamez went their separate ways on terms which were believed to be amicable, before the boxer found love again with Mexican fitness influencer Andrea Celina.

It was roughly a year into his relationship with Celina that Garcia encountered his first taste of scandal, when he was caught cheating on her with TikTok star Malu Trevejo.

While training for a bout against British star Luke Campbell, the lightweight sensation was captured kissing Trevejo after having dinner together, with Celina taking to social media to blast her boyfriend as a ‘horrible evil human’. It soon transpired that she was pregnant with their first child when Garcia was unfaithful.

‘Meanwhile, I go visit my family. He tells me he’s training hard for the fight. But IG shows me this,’ she said alongside photos of Garcia and Trevejo together. ‘7 weeks left till I give birth and this piece of sh** stay being disgusting.

‘While he barely even sees Rylie, his daughter with @catherinegamez… @kingryang is a horrible evil human.’

Garcia then took to social media himself to announce he and Celina were working through their differences, while playing down his night with Trevejo.

‘Just clearing some things I seen regarding Malu and Drea,’ he wrote. ‘Andrea and I aren’t engaged but we were still trying to fix our relationship. Malu and I went there as friends and we got caught up in the moment but there isn’t anything there, I didn’t intend to hurt anyone.

‘This is my personal life and I’m not going to speak on this ever again.’

As has been the case throughout Garcia’s eight-year career so far, a devastating low was shortly followed by euphoric highs – and vice-versa – as two months later Celina gave birth to their daughter Bela, a moment which allowed the pair to repair their relationship.

And one month later, the 135-pound hopeful claimed the toughest and most emphatic victory of his career to date when he knocked out Campbell to move to 21-0.

After being forced to climb off the canvas for the very first time, Garcia brutally winded the former Olympic gold medalist with a crippling body shot in round seven, which ended the contest and earned him the vacant WBC interim lightweight strap.

It was a breakout evening for ‘King Ry’, who walked out to ring on a throne and justified such an entrance with a regal display on the night.

All roads led to a shot at world honors in the lightweight division, with the WBC subsequently ordering him to face the Dominican Republic’s Javier Fortuna in a final eliminator for Haney’s 135-pound title.

Yet just months on from his statement win over Campbell, Garcia soon announced that he would be withdrawing from that final eliminator and taking a hiatus from boxing to focus on his mental health.

‘I hope to be back soon and am looking forward to stepping back into the ring when I am my healthiest self,’ he wrote.

During his time away from boxing Garcia found himself in the headlines again when pound-for-pound superstar Canelo Alvarez – also training out of Eddy Reynoso’s gym – publicly criticized his young stablemate for ‘wasting his talent’.

‘Look, Ryan has a lot of talent. But to me in my eyes, he’s wasting a lot of time and wasting his talent,’ Alvarez said.

‘I look at him and don’t see him 100 percent dedicated and, to us, that’s a bad signal.’

Canelo’s scathing remarks were followed by the end of Garcia working relationship with Reynoso after five fights and as many wins together. On his way out, he took aim at the trainer and his star pupil for not having enough time for him in the gym and scolding him publicly.

Later, Canelo would double down on his criticism after Garcia backed his nemesis Gennady Golovkin to prevail in their 2022 trilogy bout.

‘He’s just mad for something – he’s no longer in the team. He’s always going to be versus us no matter what,’ the four-weight world champion said. ‘But he’s a little kid. You need to understand him. He needs to learn a lot of things.

‘My advice for him is to do your job, focus on your career, win a world championship first, then talk about other people because you’ve accomplished nothing and you start talking about fighters who’ve accomplished a lot. When I was 20-year-old I was a world champion.’

Canelo even accused Garcia of owing Reynoso money. ‘You can call out everybody and say and talk and everything but at the end of the day, you are doing nothing,’ he continued. ‘It is what is. We need to understand him now that he’s no longer with the Canelo team.

‘He’s going to talk mad s**t about us. It’s fine. But he needs to remember how much Eddy did for him. A lot of things. He and his father still owe money to Eddy and Eddy doesn’t say anything because he doesn’t need it. It’s not fair that he’s talking s**t about everything in the camp.’

Prior to Canelo’s second onslaught, Garcia ended his one-year break from the sport and returned in a comfortable points win over Emmanuel Tagoe.

There was no highlight-reel knockout, but the cobwebs had been dusted off and his quest to become world champion was back up and running. And three months later he produced the type of explosive performance many had come to expect from him in a rescheduled scrap with Fortuna.

Garcia dropped the former world champion three times on his way to a straightforward sixth-round stoppage, which teed up a true mega-fight against three-weight world champion Davis in April 2023.

After exchanging insults for years, the bitter foes finally agreed to trade punches instead in a money-spinning pay-per-view blockbuster at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena, where the winner would arguably become the new face of modern boxing.

Before this seismic evening, Garcia spoke candidly about his mental-health struggles while out of the ring, admitting to having suicidal thoughts during his hiatus.

‘When that was happening to me and I couldn’t find a way out of my mind, it frustrated me,’ he revealed. ‘I just had a lot of different thoughts, suicidal thoughts, I went through a tough time but I battled through it.”

‘[But] I started having little glimpses of hope, and little by little, my mind started clearing up.

‘Just knowing what keeps my body in tune, my mind stays in better shape to keep my body in tune, so I have to run in the morning whether I’m training or not. I know I have to run, some other type of work. Just to keep my body in tune so my mind will be better suited to take on the day.’

Despite completing an admirable turnaround by battling through those problems to work his way back to the top of the sport, Garcia was left to taste his first professional defeat on the grandest of stages in his 136-pound catchweight showdown with Davis.

Like he had done to Campbell on his biggest night in the ring, this time it was Garcia’s turn to feel the sickening effects of a vicious body shot, which forced him to take a knee and wave the white flag after seven rounds with ‘Tank’.

In with one of the top pound-for-pound stars in the sport – who boasted three more years of experience at four years his senior – there was no shame in losing to a fighter as skilled, ferocious and seasoned as Davis. Garcia could still come again and map out a new path to the top of the mountain, and almost a year to the day later he will have the chance to finally clinch world honors against Haney in Brooklyn.

Nevertheless, despite having a super-lightweight title shot on the cards, the past 12 months have been marred by more lows than highs for the 25-year-old. More controversies than victories.

Months on from his first loss, Garcia became embroiled in a bitter dispute with Golden Boy, his own promotional team, after claiming his contract had been breached when both De La Hoya and co-promoter Bernard Hopkins failed to attend the post-fight press conference with him.

After receiving a letter from his legal team alleging as much and demanding a split, Golden Boy responded by filing a lawsuit to enforce their promotional agreement with the fighter. And everything came to a head when Garcia publicly berated Hopkins and a bemused De La Hoya on stage prior to his December return against Oscar Duarte.

As De La Hoya and Hopkins watched on, Garcia stunned reporters by saying: ‘One thing that’s been on my heart is the statements that Bernard made, where he’ll decide if I’m going to finish or if I should continue boxing after this fight.

‘He don’t decide that. My coach does, my team does. Everybody that grinds with me, day in and day out, that’s who decides.

‘Nobody was telling him when to stop boxing. He stopped boxing at what, 45 [actually 51] so kudos to him.

‘Another thing I want to touch on is Oscar saying that we misinterpret what they say. It’s plain English. I didn’t hear anybody speaking any language I don’t know.

‘[Hopkins] also said that he calls out all the bulls**t, the lies. The last time I checked, he said he’d never lose to a white boy, and then Joe Smith Jr. knocked him out of the ring [in Hopkins’ final fight]. The last time I checked, Joe Smith Jr. was white. So, they be lying.’

Amid his fractured relationship with Golden Boy, Garcia prevailed on his return against Duarte back in December, despite looking slightly labored prior to his powerful eighth-round knockout in Texas.

In recent months, he has been able to smooth things over with the likes of De La Hoya and Hopkins, with the former recently admitting that more frequent ‘communication’ was needed between all parties going forward.

A shot at newly-crowned super-lightweight champion Haney is now in the offing, yet he now heads into that clash with his personal life spiraling out of control.

Early into the New Year, Garcia made headlines again with an astonishing double revelation after announcing his split from Celina at the same time as the birth of their second child together.

Reports soon emerged claiming he had filed for divorce due to ‘irreconcilable differences’, before he paid tribute to his now-ex-wife in a heartfelt statement on social media.

‘As I step into a new chapter in my life, it’s with a heavy heart to share that Drea and I have decided to divorce,’ he said in the now-deleted post on social media.

Now he is heading into a fight with Haney on the back of a disturbing series of posts online

‘While this decision marks the end of our marriage, it’s important to emphasize that our relationship as co-parents remains our top priority.

‘Throughout our years together, Dea has been an incredible partner and an even more extraordinary mother to our two children. I’m deeply grateful for the years we shared and for her unwavering commitment to our family.’

Prior to his disturbing series of online outbursts this week, Garcia announced he has already found another partner following his split from Celina, gushing over new girlfriend Mikaela Testa – who boasts more than 400,000 followers on Instagram.

His Instagram posts dedicated to Testa have since been deleted, while the Australian influencer has not confirmed the romance herself. And roughly a week on, Garcia has raised concerns over his mental wellbeing by making several outlandish and alarming allegations online.

The world-title challenger is adamant that his clash with Haney is still going ahead, vowing on Wednesday to end his social-media tirade and ‘lock in’ on the fight – before returning to X to answer boxing-related questions from fans just hours later.

Golden Boy Promotions, the WBC and representatives of Haney have not responded to requests for comment from Dailymail.com on whether the April 20 contest is still going ahead.

If he does clean up his act and prove himself mentally fit to fight next month, Garcia’s rollercoaster ride promises to take another drastic turn in Brooklyn; where he will either capture world glory or be left to pick up the pieces from another humbling.

Logan Paul and KSI react to Anthony Joshua’s knockout on Francis Ngannou, joking that ‘he’s actually killed him’ after second round win

Logan Paul and KSI’s reaction to Anthony Joshua knocking out Francis Ngannou has gone viral after the former UFC star fell to defeat in Saudi Arabia on Friday.

Joshua knocked down Ngannou for the first time in his career in the first round before putting him on the canvas again early in the second.

The fight was over when Joshua put Ngannou to the floor with a powerful right hand in the second round, with the former UFC fighter unable to get back to his feet after the knockout.

KSI and Logan Paul were together for WWE’s Friday Night Smackdown where Randy Orton RKO’d the English YouTuber and have since reacted to the knockout.

Taking to TikTok, Paul uploaded a video showing their stunned reaction, with the short captioned ‘My god @AnthonyJoshua’.

‘This is how the Fury fight (vs Ngannou) should have went’, began Paul.

‘Oh my God!,’ he continued after the knockout. ‘He killed Francis Ngannou.’

KSI continued: ‘No, he’s actually killed him bro. Oh my f***ing God.’

    ‘He crumbled.’ finalised Paul.

While the internet sensations couldn’t believe their eyes, Tyson Fury also reacted to the bout.

‘I had a s*** performance against Ngannou. AJ did absolutely fantastic and lit him up with a right hand,’ he said in the immediate aftermath of the knockout.

‘If he fights me after I beat Usyk twice then it will be a different game.’

It remains to be seen as to what is next for AJ, with a fight against Tyson Fury on the cards in the future.

Meanwhile, his brother Tommy has also been out of action since defeating KSI in a controversial decision last year.

The younger Fury has admitted his eyes are set on a rematch with Logan Paul’s brother, Jake, in the future, while KSI will no doubt have a score to settle with the ex-Love Islander.

JEFF POWELL: The desert sands have shifted towards a resuscitated Anthony Joshua. The British heavyweight is ‘making boxing great again’… the good he has done for this mediaeval sport is profound

Anthony Joshua has done himself a power of good, literally, with the hat-trick of thunderous blows which he thanks the Almighty for raining down upon the head of UFC interloper Francis Ngannou.

‘God is good,’ said he who would be three-time and undisputed world heavyweight champion. Tyson Fury or Oleksandr Usyk permitting, in due course.

The good he has done for his mediaeval sport is even more profound. And he knows it.

Joshua went from worshipful to Trumpian as he said: ‘We are making boxing great again.’

That he is. Just as remarkably as he as risen from a trough of despond after being dethroned by Usyk.

Joshua, suddenly, is leading the charge across the Arabian desert which has become boxing’s new battleground

If ever this noble old game needed a clarion call to arms it is now. Joshua, suddenly, is leading the charge across the Arabian desert which has become the battleground. One announced by three knock-downs inside two rounds of such force that Ngannou cannot remember them.

The electricity which surged through the world of boxing in the dawn hours of this Sunday morning sparked the man himself to say: ‘We are on fire.’

He vows to carry the fight all the way to a full blown revival of the ring’s flagship division, saying: ‘Heavyweight boxing is a league of its own.’

The Premier League, he might have said. Except that it has been in the doldrums of late. Now, empowered by the black gold of Saudi oil, the best of the big men are finally getting around to boxing each other. As in days of yore.

When asked who he would prefer to fight for that undisputed crown once Fury and Usyk have settled the ownership of all the alpha belts, Joshua said: ‘Both.’

There will be a delay, since the Gypsy King and the Ukrainian hero are contracted to a rematch whichever of them prevails here in May. But they both know that the desert sands have shifted towards a resuscitated AJ.

For Fury to watch from ringside as his British arch-rival reduced to dust the huge icon of mixed martial arts who knocked down and almost defeated him here five months ago, was a 4am wake up call. Be sure he will respond with alacrity as well as the tinge of irony with which he said: ‘Me and Usyk will be real boxing.’

Anthony Joshua reacts after brutal Francis Ngannou knock-out

Usyk, for his part, will not have recognised the hesitant Joshua he outboxed twice. Trainers Ben Davison and Andy Lee have inspired his reinventing of himself in his maturity as the old AJ who dynamited his way to Olympic gold followed by two world titles.

The buzz among the faithful will grow louder, The couple of hundred followers who trekked to Riyadh this time will multiply as his crusade goes on.

Joshua will need a worthy opponent to keep him primed as he waits for Fury and Usyk.

One candidate on the undercard did himself no harm either. Joseph Parker suffered the inevitable damage which Chinese giant Zillie Zhang is capable of inflicting when his monstrous punches connect.

But with Usyk (pictured) and Fury set to meet in May, Joshua will need a worthy opponent to challenge him next

‘I’m not done here yet’: Francis Ngannou responds after AJ defeat

But the amiable Kiwi rose from two knockdowns, ignored his broken nose and produced the second masterly performance of this late, late show with a brave and brilliant tactical exercise which won most of the 12 rounds.

This on the back of beating Deontay Wilder, who has also been classified as one of the biggest punchers of all time.

Parker, like Joshua, has applied himself to the hard graft of redemption since losing his WBO title to AJ six years ago. Of a possible rematch, the New Zealander who trains with Fury, says: ‘Yes. Bring it on. I’ll be ready.’

Joshua explains the cost of such epiphanies: ‘This can only be done by hard, hard work. It is by total dedication that I think I’m not just the old AJ but possibly the best AJ I’ve ever been.’

No argument here. The naysayers will join Fury in raising the caveat that Ngannou is still a novice in boxing after only two high profile fights, But as he recovered from this traumatic shock Joshua whispered in his ear: ‘You’re a great fighter. Stay in boxing. Work at boxing and you will have many big nights to come.’

Later he added: ‘These things happen to the best of men, especially with the power of heavyweight punching. But Francis is a big asset to boxing. We need him.’

Joshua also spoke of how he and Ngannou will be donating money to provide life-changing opportunities to children from Nigeria and Cameroon

Of the Arabian summer to his career, in which he is now as hot as he has ever been, Joshua says: ‘The future is in God’s hands. We all have our destiny. What will be, will be. But I can do my bit. I will be back in the gym this Monday morning. I will keep training almost every day. Back in what I call my cage.’

By such application these 30-somethings – Joshua, Fury, Usyk, Parker – are making this mysterious but emergent land very much the country for older fighting men. With their own financial futures very much secured by the tens of millions of dollars the Saudi Kingdom is investing in them, they are coming to the help of others.

Joshua rarely talks about his charity work but given the context of his fight with Ngannou he revealed: ‘We have our roots in Africa. Me in Nigeria, Francis in Cameroon. We have agreed to combine our efforts in providing life-changing opportunities for poor kids from those two countries.’

Forget about AI for the moment. AJ the very human being has struck three huge blows for mankind.

Alexander Volkanovski tips ‘underrated’ Sean O’Malley to defend belt, while Henry Cejudo forecasts STOPPAGE for Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera… fighters predict UFC 299 main event

Sean O’Malley goes toe-to-toe with Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera in the main event of UFC 299 on Saturday night with the bantamweight title on the line.

Vera is the only man to have handed the American a defeat in his professional career, a loss O’Malley discounts as a fluke.

The bookies have the champion as a comfortable 5/2 favourite and he is growing in confidence all the time, particularly after impressively dispatching Aljamain Sterling.

But how do other top fighters see the main event going down in Miami?

Interestingly, opinion is divided among fellow bantamweights, with former champion Henry Cejudo saying: ‘I’m sorry Sean but I still don’t think you’ll get past. I still think you’re a clown and… yeah, I lost. I’ll take it, but I think you’re about to lose.

Henry Cejudo is tipping the underdog to upset O’Malley in Miami this Saturday night

‘I believe if Chito sticks to the game plan, kicks your f***ing leg. He runs you down for five rounds and just stalks you and catches you looking at the clock.

‘I do believe that Chito Vera is not only going to beat Sean O’Malley but he’s actually going stop him. I’m going Chito Vera via stoppage maybe within the fourth or fifth round. I think for that reason it could be an easy fight for the one and only Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera.’

While Corey Sandhagen agreed that O’Malley can be brittle, adding: ‘I know O’Malley has broken hands in fights and his leg in fights. From what I hear he’s injured a lot of the time.

‘I know if you’re going to fight someone as intense as Chito, who is a very durable guy who does hit very, very hard it’s not going to be an easy task to take that guy out or win in any fashion if you’re not that durable.

‘He’s very talented but won’t keep up on a hard fight.’

However, Sterling, the man who lost his belt to O’Malley, predicts that a slow start could cost the Ecuadorian challenger.

He said: ‘Chito is one of the more dangerous guys, especially with those kicks. He’s not the best puncher but with those kicks he’s deadly.

Robert Whittaker talked up the accuracy and power of O’Malley’s striking

‘He starts too slow where he’s given up one or two rounds. So it could be that O’Malley just needs to skate to one more round to a decision. I think O’Malley is going to get the job done.’

Robert Whittaker, meanwhile, was more circumspect and put forward the cases for both men to win.

‘O’Malley has an uncanny ability to find the KO point, finding his mark,’ the Australian former middleweight champion explained.

‘I don’t think it will be any different in this fight but I do think there will be a mental thing at play because I saw the face off and Chito looks mean, he’s a killer.

‘You can tell in his eyes that he’s looking at O’Malley thinking he already beat him once and will do it again.’

A number of fighters also made their predictions to James Lynch, with Paul Craig and Anthony Pettis among those to tip the champion to secure his first defence.

‘I’m an O’Malley fan because of the striking,’ Pettis said. ‘Obviously I saw how the first fight went down but I like O’Malley’s style and the way he goes from orthodox to southpaw so seamlessly and his confidence has got to be up.

While Craig added: ‘That’s a bit wild, that one. Chito just jumped the queue. I believe being champion brings a little bit of confidence and a bit more about you and that is probably going to O’Malley.

Neil Magny (right) thinks Vera has what it takes to beat O'Malley for a second time

‘I thought in the fight against Sterling that Aljo would just take him down but I think O’Malley as a champion now will be a different animal, he already had confidence and now he’s got even more.’

Chase Hooper agreed: ‘I think O’Malley honestly. I like Chito but feel like he was losing that first fight until he got the drop leg on O’Malley, which I imagine is something O’Malley will be waiting for and same thing for Chito, he will be hunting that calf even more. O’Malley showed up even better against Aljo so I think he’s stepped up level wise.’

Neil Magny and Ben Askren both went for Vera to upset the odds, with Magny saying: ‘I think Chito might pull this off. The last fight was very close, it was unfortunate that Sean hurt his leg and we weren’t able to see how it would play out in it’s totality.’

Askren was far from confident in his pick but also sided with the underdog: ‘I did not think O’Malley was going to win against Sterling but he rose to the occasion. I guess I’ll go with Chito but not with a level of comfort.’

Some big name fighters previewed the main event on their own social pages, with Alexander Volkanovski breaking it down in depth.

The recently dethroned former featherweight champion told his YouTube channel: I know he’s already beaten O’Malley but O’Malley is high level.

Alexander Volkanovski thinks the striking skills of the champion will win the day

Alexander Volkanovski thinks the striking skills of the champion will win the day

‘I think he’s underrated, I know people think he’s good but I don’t think they understand how good he is, his shot selections, variety in his strikes, angles, distance management – all of that is very, very high level. He’s young, still in his prime and finding his prime.

‘He’s the champion, is he still putting in the hard yards? He’s already been a bit of a celebrity, had a bit of love and you’ve seen him evolve into being a champion but that champion lifestyle can change people.

He continued: ‘I was able to be the same person, that’s why I felt like I evolved so much, is that the case with O’Malley. I’m leaning towards O’Malley, I think his striking is going to be too much. I think Chito has to keep it standing, O’Malley is even dangerous on the ground.

‘I think he’s going to be hard to take down, I think Sean can even give him problems there. I think it’s going to be a stand up fight, which is exciting. I think it will be a finish for Sean O’Malley.’

British star Arnold Allen was of the same mind, saying on his YouTube channel: ‘I think O’Malley is going to defend the belt with a lot of volume kicking and stance switching. I don’t think it’ll be the most exciting fight.

The champion put his first defeat by Vera down to a 'fluke' after his leg was compromised

The champion put his first defeat by Vera down to a ‘fluke’ after his leg was compromised

‘Vera has to pressure, kick his leg again, high guard. Don’t walk into silly shots but be in his face and try to break him, not be in kicking range but I think O’Malley is going to win.’

And Israel Adesanya interestingly chose not to have a dog in the fight given his friendly relationship with both pugilists.

‘Chito it’s all about managing the distance, either it’s all the way out or all the way in, he has to out-feint Sean,’ he said on his YouTube channel.

‘It will be a battle of distance, trying to counter the counter striker. I’m not going to pick, I think they will sort it out themselves and again I love Chito as a person and O’Malley always shows me respect and it would be a disservice if I was to pick a winner. It’s not my fight, it’s theirs so you guys can roll the dice on that one.’
