Mike Tyson, 57, ‘in talks’ to make boxing return against MMA icon turned Russian politician four years after last fight

MIKE TYSON is reportedly in talks over a stunning return to the ring in Saudi Arabia later this year.

The former undisputed heavyweight champion came out of retirement in November 2020 to face fellow boxing great Roy Jones Jr in an exhibition.

Tyson rolled back the years against the former four-weight world champion, so much so that he contemplated getting back in the ring the following year.

A second post-retirement fight has yet to materialise for Iron Mike, although reports in Russia claim the 57-year-old is in talks over a huge bout.

Tyson is said to be “in negotiations” to face mixed martial arts legend Fedor Emelianenko in a money-spinning crossover clash.

RedFuryMMA claims “several rounds” of talks over the potential clash of legends have already taken place.

Tyson and Emelianenko, 47, are said to both be interested in the money-spinning Riyadh rumble.

The current sticking point is said to bemoney, although that could very well soon be sorted if the super-rich Saudis are indeed interested in the bout.

Boxing and MMA fans were left stunned by the news of the potential crossover clash, with one saying: “Say word?”

Another said: “Ooooo I actually like that match-up.”

And another: “Don’t tease me. This better be legit.”

One remarked: “27 years in the making.”

Another chimed in: “Already better than UFC 300.”

Rumours of a fight with Emelianenko come just a matter of months after Tyson admitted he could be pressured to lace up his gloves again.

In an interview with TMZ, he said: “I could be persuaded [to fight again].

“I don’t know. When I see the money people for the end of the product, my mind works clearer.

“I can’t express myself right now financially.”

Russian wrecking machine Emelianenko is considered to be the greatest heavyweight MMA fighter of all time, despite never having fought in the UFC.

Emelianenko’s heyday came in the 2000s when he competed in the now-defunct Pride promotion, in which he won their heavyweight championship and Grand Prix and defeated legend after legend.

The Last Emperor – who was appointed as a staff member of Russia‘s Council of Physical Fitness & Sports by Vladimir Putin back in 2012 – was unbeaten for nearly ten years before losing to Fabricio Werdum in the summer of 2010.

Emelianenko brought the curtain down on his iconic career last February after suffering a first-round TKO loss to Bellator heavyweight champ Ryan Bader.

KEVIN MCBRIDE will forever be remembered as the man who retired boxing icon Mike Tyson.

Tyson was a shell of the man who struck fear into heavyweights in the late 80s and 90s when he laced up his gloves for his Washington war with McBride – who was somewhat of a journeyman at the time – in June 2005.

Most thought Tyson would get back to winning ways, despite his lacklustre display in his defeat to Brit Danny Williams 11 months earlier.

But the Baddest Man on The Planet was chopped down by the Irishman – who was responsible for perhaps one of the most iconic pictures of Tyson’s career – and suffered a fifth-round TKO defeat.

And chopping down things is something McBride is now all too familiar with in his post-fight career as he’s now a tree surgeon.

In an interview with the Daily Mail ahead of Tyson’s ring return in 2020, the 50-year-old revealed: “I work with a tree surgeon now.

“He has me dropping trees, clearing snow, shouting ‘timber’ and all that.”

McBride never envisaged chopping down trees in his post-fight career but is happy with his new gig.

He said: “It is good. It keeps me busy. My job is I pick things up and I put things down.”

Having the title of being the last man to beat Tyson is something most would sing and shout about.

But not McBride, who seldom watches back the biggest moment of his career.

He said: “It is coming up more often at the moment because every time they say about him making a comeback.

“They say I was the last guy to beat him. I like that.

“I don’t sit around re-watching the fight but someone put a clip on Facebook recently and I saw it – dream come true, isn’t it?”

Tyson returned to the ring in November 2020 for an exhibition bout with fellow great Roy Jones Jr, which ended in a draw.

The former undisputed heavyweight champion has flirted with the prospect of lacing up his gloves again but has yet to do so.

Iron Mike was recently linked to a shock showdown with MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko in Saudi Arabia later this year.

But SunSport exclusively revealed he’s NOT in negotiations to box the Russian.

A source said: “This is false. Mr. Tyson has not spoken to anyone in his camp.

“He is not interested in doing a fight with him now or in the future.”

Egan was a national amateur champion but had only four professional bouts, going 3-1.

He recently announced plans to come out of retirement and publicly challenged Tyson Fury’s dad John – but to no avail.

So Egan has now turned to his old friend Iron Mike to help get the message out there.

Tyson said in a video: “John Fury, you’ve got my friend Joe Egan really mad at you, saying you wanted to fight me.

“And he also told me that you told Russell Crowe that he was a fraud. So, Joe Egan is looking for John Fury, okay?

“And if I’m able to see that fight – I hope it’s not in England because I’m a felon, I can’t go to England.

“But he’s coming for you John Fury, for my honour.”

Tyson had two fights in the UK, knocking out Julius Francis in Manchester and Lou Savarese in Glasgow.

But in 2013 he was banned from travelling over due to his 1992 rape conviction – which he served three years in prison for – because of immigration rules that were toughened up in 2012.

Tyson, 57, has been called out several times by Fury’s 59-year-old father John.

But John refused to entertain the callout from Egan, telling The Mirror: “Not interested in talking about those people. Can we move on please?”

It comes after Egan said: “Hello everyone. I have one last hurrah in me. I haven’t fought in over 20 years.

“John Fury is my friend and he is a good fighting man, same as myself, a good fighting man and I think the two of us would have a great boxing match.

“Out in Saudi let’s show them YouTubers and them Saudi royals how two old warriors can perform.”

Helmut Marko Reveals Sergio Perez Will No Longer Experiment With His Car
    IMAGO / Laci Perenyi

Sergio Perez learned his lesson last season and is unwilling to go down that path anymore, as per Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko. The Austrian in his recent interview with SpeedWeek stated that the Mexican driver will no longer be experimenting with his car in 2024. This change in attitude has come after the 34-year-old struggled massively against Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen last year after he made several changes to the set-up of his car.

Speaking about the same, Marko said, “This year he [Sergio Perez] is no longer experimenting, but is starting with more or less the same basic set-up as Max. It’s just more nuances in which they set up differently.”

Perez was keen to challenge Verstappen for the title last year but came up massively short. Despite finishing second in the championship with 285 points, Perez only managed less than half the tally of what Verstappen scored (575). As a result, rumors were rampant that Perez may lose his Red Bull seat if he failed to salvage the season with a P2 finish.

Only since the Mexican managed to secure second in the championship last year, it is believed that Red Bull decided to stick with him in 2024. However, since the 34-year-old is currently in his fourth season with the Austrian team, he cannot afford any more slip-ups.

So far he seems to have begun the 2024 campaign on a positive note as he has finished second in both the opening two races. However, since he is still struggling massively to match Verstappen, there is still a chance that Red Bull might replace him next year.

Red Bull not short of options if they choose to replace Sergio Perez

Red Bull do seem to have a strong talent pool in case they choose to replace Sergio Perez in 2025. Apart from current Visa Cash App RB drivers Yuki Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo, Red Bull also have Liam Lawson as an option.

The New Zealander was mightily impressive during his short cameo last year, and as a result of his performances, many have tipped him to get a seat in F1 sooner rather than later. In case Red Bull decide to look for alternatives outside their two teams, they can also consider Carlos Sainz, who will be leaving Ferrari at the end of the 2024 season.

However, since Tsunoda and Ricciardo are the ones who are currently driving in the junior team this year, it will most likely be a straight fight between the two if Red Bull do want to replace Perez. The Australian has made it clear that returning to Red Bull Racing is his sole goal at the moment.

Meanwhile, Tsunoda, who has now raced with Visa Cash App RB (formerly AlphaTauri) for four seasons now, would like to race for a top side at the earliest as well. Since most of the talks in recent times have been about who will replace Sergio Perez in 2025, the pressure is indeed massively on the Mexican to prove himself this year if he wants to retain his seat.

Australia’s birthday boy Tai Tuivasa has suffered a round-one submission defeat to Marcin Tybura in their heavyweight UFC showdown in Las Vegas.

Tuivasa, who turned 31 on fight night, entered Saturday’s bout (Sunday AEDT) ranked ninth in the world and keen to get back on the winners’ list following three straight losses.

But he was no match for Poland’s world No.9 Tybura, who was left bloodied after copping some early blows but gained the advantage when he tackled Tuivasa to the ground.

Tybura rained a flurry of blows on Tuivasa once the pair hit the canvas, but it was a rear naked chokehold that brought about the Australian’s undoing.

Tuivasa fought for breath as he struggled against the chokehold for as long as he could, but the referee stopped the bout with 53 seconds remaining in the first round.

‘I feel awesome,’ Tybura said after the win.

‘I got a win over a very strong opponent. Fights like these make me very happy.’

The loss is a huge blow to Tuivasa’s hopes of climbing his way back up the heavyweight rankings.

Tuivasa’s last win in the UFC octagon was in February 2022, when he beat Derrick Lewis in a second-round knockout.

Joe Joyce secured a much-needed victory in unconvincing fashion against Kash Ali in Birmingham on Saturday night.

The 38-year-old, who lost his unbeaten record in back-to-back losses to Zhilei Zhang last year, was expected to make light work of his opponent last night.

But Joyce had to be patient as he struggled to finish off Ali, who put in a solid effort against the heavy favourite.

With just seven seconds remaining of the tenth and final round, a right hand sent Ali to the canvas for the first time in the bout.

Ali got to his feet, but was too slow to do so, handing Joyce a knockout victory.

Ali entered the fight having fought just twice since 2021 due to injury, having also previously served a six-month ban in 2019 for biting David Price.

The victory lifts Joyce to a 16-2 record as he hopes to be challenging the big names in heavyweight boxing again in the future.

Joyce had been unbeaten going into 2023 and appeared to be on the cusp of a title fight against Oleksandr Usyk.

Going into the fight, he called it a ‘fork in the road’ having gone from being next in line to challenge for Usyk’s WBO title to being on the undercard at Resorts World Arena in Birmingham last night.

    Credits: Saudi Press Agency (X)

Just four years after the inauguration of the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, Saudi Arabia is on its way to developing yet another mega track, the Qiddiya Speed Park. The mentioned track will be a crown jewel of the upcoming high-tech city of Qiddiya in Saudi Arabia. The expected cost to build the track is reportedly around $500 million and has big promises around it.

Saudi Arabia wants Qiddiya to be the motorsports capital of the world. However, they would want to make sure that the track does not become forgotten and abandoned, something that F1 has already seen with the likes of the Buddh International Circuit in India, and the Korea International Circuit.

Martin Whitaker, CEO of Saudi Arabian Motorsport told Racingnews365, “The difference here is the commitment of the Saudis. Once they commit to doing something, that’s it. It’s happening. There’s no turning back. They’re going to achieve it.”

The Speed Park will be designed by Hermann Tilke, along with former F1 driver and two-time Le Mans winner Alex Wurz. It will see an elevation difference of 108 meters across 21 turns. Interestingly, it will also have an incline of 70 meters in the first corner known as ‘blade’, and consist of three DRS zones.

Moreover, the venue will not only be a racing track, but also have spaces for different sports like soccer and golf. Apart from this, the Speed Park will also have entertainment facilities such as hotels, malls and residential complexes.

The Qiddiya Speed Park is expected to take Jeddah Corniche Circuit’s place in the sport in the next decade. F1 extended their partnership with the Jeddah till 2030 recently. Therefore, shifting to Qiddiya only be possible after that. But is F1 planning to shift at all?

Implications about having multiple races in Saudi Arabia

There is a possibility that F1 agrees to hosting two races in Saudi Arabia from 2030 onwards. However, a lot of entities, including Lewis Hamilton, have called out the country for its human rights track record. How the public will react to having two races there is to be seen.

Meanwhile, Max Verstappen navigated through the sportswashing allegations against the country, unlike Hamilton. The Dutchman took a safer line while explaining how the Middle Eastern country is trying to improve its global image by hosting rampant sports events one after another.

The Red Bull driver said as per Racing News 365, “I do think that since we have been [in Saudi Arabia] already, there are some really nice, positive changes. And you have to respect that, sometimes it takes a bit longer in some countries.”

Verstappen refused to mix politics with F1. He is excited about the changes being made in the country, but at the same time, asks fans to respect the local culture, irrespective of where they go.
