Lewis Hamilton gave Mercedes and team principal Toto Wolff a massive shock ahead of the 2024 campaign when he announced his move to Ferrari at the end of the season. The Briton’s chat with Wolff to reveal this news would have arguably been the most difficult conversation the 39-year-old had during his illustrious career. Wolff has now shed light on the matter and explained how Hamilton wanted to get away from the “emotional burden.”

While speaking to Fox News Australia ahead of the race in Melbourne this past weekend, Wolff said (as quoted by motorsportweek.com), “He came back (from winter holidays) and said, ‘Can we have a coffee? ‘ He came for the coffee. That’s the normal thing we’re doing when the season kicks off, and he said, ‘I’m leaving for Ferrari.’ And I said, ‘Really?

Wolff then revealed that although it did not surprise him that Hamilton wanted to join Ferrari in 2025, he did not expect the Briton to update him with this news even before the 2024 season began. Wolff explained, “I said, ‘Why at the beginning of the season?’ He said he just wanted to have it out and not have it as a burden, emotional burden“.

Although Hamilton to Ferrari rumors were rampant last year, few believed them. Hence, it came as a shock to many when the rumors turned into reality.

F1 expert Lawrence Barretto revealed at the start of the 2024 season that it was a conversation between Ferrari president John Elkann and Hamilton that convinced the 39-year-old to move to Maranello. With Hamilton leaving for Ferrari in 2025, Mercedes will have a huge vacuum to fill.

Who can Mercedes replace Lewis Hamilton with?

Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time world champion, is not only important for Mercedes to produce results on the track but also is an important figure in promoting the brand. Since the Briton is arguably the most successful driver in the sport’s history, Mercedes will find it very difficult to replace him.

Over the past weeks, several names have emerged as potential prospects who can replace Hamilton. Perhaps the most surprising name of them all is three-time champion Max Verstappen. Because of the ongoing turmoil at Red Bull, Toto Wolff hopes to convince the Dutchman to sign for his side.

Meanwhile, the other top prospects include two-time champion Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard, currently in the last year of his contract with Aston Martin, has admitted that he will likely be one of the most sought-after drivers during the silly season as he is the only double world champion available.

A third driver that most experts believe Mercedes can sign is 17-year-old Andrea Kimi Antonelli. The Italian is racing in F2 with Prema Racing and is believed to be among the most talented young drivers on the grid.

Amid the recent unrest within Red Bull, reports surfaced of Max Verstappen not wanting to be on the team anymore. When Red Bull launched an investigation into Helmut Marko, Verstappen was outspoken in supporting the 80-year-old. He outrightly claimed that he, too, would leave Red Bull should Marko leave. A supposed ‘Marko clause’ in Verstappen’s contract allows him to leave the team without repercussions. Given the same, Mercedes emerged as the surprise team to sign the Dutchman.

Talking about the possibility of the move, Toto Wolff claimed Mercedes must improve their car before they can bring Verstappen over. They need good equipment before dreaming about what their future can be. Wolff added each team on the grid would be willing to do handstands for the possibility of signing the 3X reigning world champion. Christian Horner also claimed Verstappen was free to decide on his future. However, he added he was confident that the Dutchman would serve the entirety of his contract. Given all of the above, uncertainty remains intact around the future of Verstappen, with teams waiting to pounce on an opportunity to sign him.

Although speaking ahead of the Australian GP, Verstappen did try to shut down all the rumors. In an interview with the Project, the Dutchman was asked if there was a scenario in which we would see him out of the blue overalls, and he replied, “Once I stop driving.”

Sergio Perez has already signed an extension, claims F1 expert

The future of Sergio Perez at Red Bull has been up for debate for quite some time now. It all began in 2023 when Max Verstappen built an unassailable lead over the rest of the grid, including his teammate. Failing to match up with his Dutch counterpart, Perez came under fire for his performance. Meanwhile, Daniel Ricciardo impressed everyone with his performances for (formerly) AlphaTauri, further sending Perez’s future into doubt.

However, F1 expert Peter Windsor recently made a startling revelation on his Official YouTube channel. The former Ferrari GM claimed he had heard from reliable sources that Perez had already signed a contract extension with Red Bull.

“I heard, in the paddock area, from various sources that are pretty reliable, that Sergio [Perez] has already renewed his contract for next year.”

Should the latest update by Windsor be true, it would be a huge blow to the hopes of Carlos Sainz and Yuki Tsunoda. Sainz is currently out of a driving seat for 2025 and is hoping to impress a team enough to sign him. Given the fact that he is the only driver to defeat Red Bull in 2023 and 2024 (so far), chances were that the Milton Keynes-based outfit would want to join forces with him. Meanwhile, Honda-backed Tsunoda has been a part of the Red Bull setup for over four years but hasn’t had the chance to drive with the senior team.

Tsunoda has been off to a flying start in 2024, outperforming Daniel Ricciardo every step of the way. However, the performances might not translate to him getting a promotion. If Windsor’s claims are indeed true, the question mark over Perez’s head has changed teams and now dangles over the head of Max Verstappen.

Lewis Hamilton announced earlier last month that he would join Ferrari in the upcoming season. With this, the seven-time champion will end his 12-year relationship with the Silver Arrows. Considering this, a former team principal has weighed in his perspective. According to ex-Haas boss, Guenther Steiner, Lewis Hamilton made the right choice by moving to Ferrari next year.

In his conversation with Sky Sports F1, Steiner said as quoted by Motorsport.com, “In 2026 there will be completely new rules for the engine and the chassis, so the cars will be rebuilt. If he is lucky and things go in the right direction, and Ferrari produces a good car, it could be that he wins his eighth title there.”

Previously, Steiner compared Hamilton’s Ferrari move to his Mercedes switch from 2013. The Briton joined the Silver Arrows in a high-profile move, which was interesting since the team wasn’t dominating at that time. Nevertheless, a year after he joined, his choice proved wise. This was because Hamilton won six driver championships with the team and the team itself won eight consecutive titles.

Hamilton has yet again decided to join a team that isn’t at the top currently. Interestingly, according to Steiner, by making this choice, the 39-year-old is taking a fresh gamble that might turn in his favor.

Speaking about Ferrari, the team has been building momentum since the end of 2023. However, as per Steiner, whether Hamilton will fight for the championship with Ferrari in 2025 remains to be seen.

Nevertheless, the Italian noted that Ferrari might become a team to seize the lead in 2026 because of new engine regulations. Although Steiner’s forecasting on Hamilton’s future is not entirely new, he has previously claimed that Mercedes would be the only team to take a chance on the Briton.

What did Guenther Steiner say regarding other teams’ willingness to make room for Lewis Hamilton?

Mercedes has faced significant challenges over the past two years. While the Brackley squad faced difficulties in 2022 due to porpoising, in 2023, they took the wrong development path. At that moment, there was a lot of conjecture over Hamilton’s future with the Silver Arrows. Notably, amidst the rumors, a statement came from Steiner that the Briton can’t do better than Mercedes.

For Steiner, the only team that was stronger than Mercedes was Red Bull. However, as per the 58-year-old, the Milton Keynes side was too busy investing in Hamilton’s rival Max Verstappen. As a result, Steiner believed that Mercedes was the only squad that could suit Hamilton, as he was nearing the conclusion of his career.

According to RacingNews365, Steiner told the Mail, “Red Bull has put everything on Max. Max is their man. Why would they now change Max for Lewis?”

However, as time passed, it became evident that Steiner had made an incorrect prediction with Hamilton’s big switch to Ferrari, leaving Mercedes in the doldrums.

Max Verstappen for the third year in a row seems to be untouchable. With the Red Bull cars under the current regulations being the fastest, he is decimating every opposition of his. So much so that his teammate, Sergio Perez, who runs the same car, is unable to be even near him. However, ex-F1 driver Hans-Joachim Stuck believes, as he said to Eurosport, based on a report by GP Blog, that Max Verstappen would have been having bad sleep days if Carlos Sainz was his teammate.

First of all, I would like it, because competition stimulates the business aspect. Then Max [Verstappen] would definitely have to accelerate, which he can do. Secondly, I’m sure Max would sleep worse if he knew Sainz was going to be his new teammate,” said Stuck.

In the last race, when Verstappen had to retire, Sainz won comprehensively. And this is not the first time when Sainz took the show away when Red Bull struggled. Even in Singapore last year, the case was pretty similar. However, Ferrari deserve credit for the same as well.

Throughout the weekend, the Prancing Horses showed a better pace and were always in contention to win. The Dutchman’s retirement just cemented it. So, as of now, the standings look really tight. And if Sainz hadn’t missed the Saudi Arabian GP, he most likely would have led the standings after the last round.

However, for many, it’s a shame that for 2025, Sainz right now is without a team. The Spaniard himself joked in front of the media that he is unemployed for the next year. But, winning the Australian GP might have made things interesting for him.

Carlos Sainz: The hottest property in town?

With Lewis Hamilton leaving Mercedes, there is already a vacancy to fill at Brackley. On the other hand, with Sergio Perez running in the final year of his contract with Red Bull, the Milton Keynes-based outfit could potentially replace him with Carlos Sainz if the Mexican continues to underperform.

Therefore, both Mercedes and Red Bull are likely to at least contest for the three-time race winner. It’s likely, with the new regulations fast approaching, that Sainz might choose a team that has better prospects for the future even though Red Bull is dominating right now.

Meanwhile, there are other drivers who would be contesting for both seats. Fernando Alonso is also rumored to be linked with both teams. And since the 42-year-old might only race for a year more, Red Bull could be his first choice due to the favorable chances in the championship fight.

As for Sainz, he is likely to affect the driver market greatly despite not having decorated stats like Max Verstappen or Lewis Hamilton. Till then, there is also a possibility that Sainz tastes more success with Ferrari.

‘Britain’s Mike Tyson’ sparred Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, one hit harder but the other is still better

Teenage heavyweight Moses Itauma could be boxing’s next superstar – but the Brit has already taken a shot at the current kings.

The 19-year-old recently moved to 8-0 with another brutal knockout, seeing off Dan Garber in the first round last Friday night.

WBC champion Tyson Fury has called Itauma the ‘future of the division’, while pundits have likened him to heavyweight legend Mike Tyson due to his explosive power that saw a teenage Tyson tear through the division en route to becoming its youngest champion.

Fury knows all about Itauma’s talent after a recent sparring session between the two big-hitters.

A 16-year-old Itauma also sparred with two-time world champion Anthony Joshua in 2021.

When talkSPORT asked the young prodigy whether Fury hits hardest, Itauma responded: “No, but he’s so unique. Joshua hit me very hard.

“I sparred him [Joshua] when I was 16. I only did a couple of rounds, but that was enough.”

Opinions have shifted on Fury and Joshua following their respective victories over MMA-champion-turned-boxer Francis Ngannou.

Fury was knocked down and got an unconvincing majority decision, while Joshua delivered a brutal knockout in the second round.

The heavyweight division will crown its first unified king in more than two decades when Fury meets IBF, WBA and WBO champion Oleksandr Usyk on May 18.

Itauma hopes to reach those heights one day, but for now, he still believes Fury is the best around.

The heavyweight said: “He [Fury] gave me loads of advice. Currently, I think he is No.1. There are so many factors people don’t take into account.

Tyson Fury shows off brutal power in latest training footage ahead of massive fight against Oleksandr Usyk
“Joshua had something to learn off [before fighting Ngannou], Fury never did. Fury was the first person to do that crossover.

“It was great entertainment. Whether he took it seriously is another thing.”

Itauma insisted neither fighter made him wobble, but also explained the complicated nature of sparring big men before lucrative fights.

He said: “I haven’t wobbled. We’re big guys. All of us have the capability to knock each other out and it only takes one shot.

“Let’s say, I go in there and I knock someone out in sparring, they can’t spar for six weeks and I’m going to struggle to get a sparring partner.

“You don’t really learn from knocking people out in sparring.”

Itauma continued: “If I go in there, he’s just tapping and I’m trying to knock him out, I’ll look like a… you know.

‘He was raging’ – Mike Tyson stormed out of the ring with ‘nostrils flaring’ when he vowed to eat Lennox Lewis’ children after vicious KO

Mike Tyson left the ring in a furious rage after his infamous rant about Lennox Lewis in 2000.

Frank Warren agreed to host two fights in the UK for the iconic American heavyweight just after the turn of the millennium, when he was was far past his prime and been beaten twice by Evander Holyfield.

Tyson still had his eyes firmly fixed on one last title shot against Lennox Lewis, who had dethroned Holyfield in 1999.

The second of these UK fights came up in Glasgow at Hampden Park, where Iron Mike obliterated Lou Savarese in one round, even taking out the referee in the process.

In his post-fight interview, Tyson raged about Lewis, even threatening to ‘eat his children’.

This was despite the fact the Brit had no children at the time.

Fans think Jake Paul will cancel upcoming fight with Mike Tyson as boxing legend posts new training footage
Ringside for that fight as part of the commentary team was Spencer Oliver, in the early stages of his career as a pundit.

Oliver recalled on talkSPORT Fight Night: “I remember when Mike Tyson came over here and boxed Lou Savarese up in Scotland.

“I grew up listening to Mike Tyson, he was my childhood hero, he inspired me into the sport of boxing.

“I get up there to do the commentary with Steve Collins next to me.

“It was pouring down with rain, freezing cold, we had some poor person standing over us holding the umbrella getting soaked themselves.

“And we were doing the commentary – he took out the referee and Savarese in the first round.

“Then he started talking about eating Lennox Lewis’ kids.

“He was steaming when he came out [of the ring].

“So my childhood hero – who I’ve grown up wishing and wanting to speak to – as he’s walking past me you could feel the heat coming from him and see his nostrils flaring and he was steaming.

“I thought, ‘Do not look at this guy, do not make eye contact,’ because he would have taken me out.

“Steve Collins was the same. I went, ‘Don’t look at him Steve, put your head down, put your head down.’

“Everyone was going, ‘Oh Mike, we love you,’ but he was raging.”

Eddie Hearn has slammed Francis Ngannou for appearing to suggest that his demolishing defeat by Anthony Joshua was down to his early arrival at the arena.

Joshua knocked down the former UFC heavyweight champion three times in two rounds to secure a dominant victory in Saudi Arabia.

Ngannou, in a recent interview on the MMA Hour, said that he arrived at the Kingdom Arena, in Riyadh, two hours earlier than Joshua, appearing to suggest that this was a ‘trick’ to tire him out.

Joshua’s promoter Hearn has taken exception with the comments, suggesting the 37-year-old ‘should know better’.

He told Boxing Social: ‘I was baffled. It is a bit disappointing really.

Hearn also reacted to a social media post which contained Ngannou’s comments, stating: ‘I’m not sure he has come round yet.’

Ngannou after the fight confessed that he couldn’t remember being knocked out by Joshua and that from going back to his stool in between the first and second rounds, he ‘wasn’t there anymore‘.

In his interview on the MMA Hour, when asked if fighting late around 3am ‘screwed’ him up, he replied: ‘We both fight at 3am but what I think, something that happened is that they got me to the arena very early, like 10.30pm.

After entering Victoria’s much-anticipated fashion show, the couple sat on the front row with Brooklyn’s father David, 47, and his siblings – Harper, Romeo, 20, and Cruz, 17.

Victoria couldn’t hold back her tears as she broke down while taking to the runway – reaching out to hug her husband David during the appearance.

Afterwards, the family got together to celebrate with cocktails, as a source said: ‘There were a lot of smiles and a lot of love in the room, it was a lovely family atmosphere.’

Posing for a snap, Brooklyn and Nicola appeared in high spirits as they beamed while sitting alongside siblings Romeo and Harper, dad David and Vogue’s Anna Wintour and Edward Enninful.

There have also been reports that American football legend Tom Brady will be among the guests, possibly with his wife, supermodel Gisele Bündchen, but speculation that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex could attend are wide of the mark. Brooklyn’s younger brothers, Romeo and Cruz, will be best men, while Harper will be a bridesmaid.

After Nicola wrote down that she thought Brooklyn would be most scared of the first dance, he told her: ‘I’m great at dancing, I’m not worried about that,’ as he reveals his answer to be his wedding speech.

‘I’m terrified about the first dance, I can’t dance,’ Nicola confessed, only for Brooklyn to pull a face and insist: ‘I’m gonna kill that.’

The loved-up couple matched answers on the question of what they’re most looking forward to about the wedding, sweetly answering ‘marrying you,’ and both think ‘sensitive’ Brooklyn will be the most likely to cry on the big day.

Brooklyn’s father David has no formal role at the wedding, but friends say he has been tasked with ensuring that all the Beckham men look their best.

Brooklyn is understood to have signed a prenuptial agreement with his heiress bride-to-be Nicola. The £380million fortune of Brooklyn’s parents is dwarfed by the estimated £1.3billion wealth of Miss Peltz’s financier father Nelson.

Brooklyn Beckham and fiancé Nicola Peltz on Valentine’s Day

As wedding preparations are underway, Nicola recruited Leslie Fremar – a stylist who has worked with Hollywood A-listers Demi Moore and Charlize Theron – to help choose her dress.

The pair travelled to the headquarters of Valentino in Rome and Nicola has confirmed her gown has been designed by the fashion house’s Pierpaolo Piccioli.

‘Nicola trusts Leslie implicitly and, while her dress is being made by Valentino, Leslie is the person she has turned to help with how she will accessorise and how she will have her hair and make-up,’ a source said.

Brooklyn and Miss Peltz met in 2017 and began dating two years later. Announcing their engagement on Instagram in July 2020, Brooklyn wrote: ‘Two weeks ago I asked my soulmate to marry me and she said yes. I am the luckiest man in the world.’

His fiancée wrote: ‘I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life by your side. Your love is the most precious gift.’
