Boxing fans reckon Mike Tyson would need just three rounds to KO Deontay Wilder

Mike Tyson insisted that Deontay Wilder would not stand a chance against him in his prime

Boxing fans have sided with Mike Tyson’s claim that Deontay Wilder would stand no chance against him in his prime.

Some even believe that the Bronze Bomber would not have even lasted three rounds with Iron Mike.

Wilder is one of the most feared boxers in the world of today – where he has gone 42 fights without loss.

The 34-year-old has held the WBC heavyweight belt since 2015 and is been regarded as one of the best of his generation.

But Tyson believes that if the two went toe-to-toe in their primes, there would only be one winner.

He tweeted: “I don’t think Wilder would have beat me in my prime. I’ve said it before and I’m saying it again.”

Fans backed up the former undisputed world champion, with one saying: “No-one beats you in your prime Mr.Iron Mike. No-one.”

“Prime Tyson > Everyone,” another quipped.

“You’d of done him in 3 rounds,” a third replied.

Another agreed, saying: “He wouldn’t have lasted 3 rounds mike!!”

And this fan said: “I’ve said a thousand times, a prime Tyson beats any heavyweight in history.

“Just to savage and aggressive for anyone and the power generated from a hook was unbelievable. In his prime he was unstoppable. In my opinion.”

Tyson is known as one of, if not, the best heavyweight boxers of all time.

At 20 years, four months and 22 days he became the youngest ever boxer to win a heavyweight title.

In his first 19 fights, the New York-born fighter won them all by knockout – with 12 coming in the first round.

Out of 46 fights, he lost just once before his double defeat to Evander Holyfield – the second infamously being a disqualification after biting his opponent’s ear.

  • Mike Tyson Reveals Why He Would Destroy Tyson Fury or Any Other Heavyweight in His Prime

Mike Tyson Reveals Why He Would Destroy Tyson Fury or Any Other Heavyweight in His Prime

Heavyweight legend Mike Tyson wasn’t invincible inside the boxing ring. He fell prey to his opponents’ traps several times and exited the professional sphere with a career of 50 wins and 6 losses. While Tyson looked vulnerable during the end of his boxing journey, his early years in the ring worked completely in his favor.

Mike Tyson became the youngest heavyweight world champion by knocking out Trevor Berbick at the age of 20, a feat that is still held by him. From then, Tyson earned numerous accolades, touting his prime years as one of the most legendary runs in the sport of boxing.

Although people compare the modern-age heavyweights with Mike Tyson, and several fans back the new world champions to beat a prime ‘Iron’, Tyson recently revealed why it wouldn’t be the case. Tyson has previously dumped a comparison between him and Tyson Fury, both in their primes.

Now, Tyson turned to Twitter and wrote, “I used to fight anybody my trainer put me in with because I was confident that I could beat any fighter in the world. Anybody could see that I was almost a master at evading punches coming at me.”

A few weeks back, ex-MMA fighter Brendan Schaub had backed Tyson Fury to outwork Mike Tyson during a friendly chat with the heavyweight veteran. Tyson didn’t argue about his chances. Instead, he offered a straightforward response.

‘Iron Mike’ said, “I don’t know. I don’t care if he could beat me or not. His name is Tyson. He can beat me, but I don’t care he is named after the greatest fighter that ever lived.”

Mike Tyson may not be a fan of modern-age heavyweights.

Aged 55, Tyson monitors the existing trend in the boxing world. He doesn’t hesitate to speak his mind. Tyson doesn’t appear a huge fan of modern-era heavyweight stars as he publicly ridicules them. Following Oleksandr Usyk’s win over Anthony Joshua in September 2021, Mike Tyson demeaned both the contenders and compared it to the performances of his time.

Tyson wrote on Twitter, “After watching the Joshua vs Usyk fight, maybe they had a bad day that night. From that performance do you really think they could have beat me in my prime?”

Teenage heavyweight Moses Itauma could be boxing’s next superstar – but the Brit has already taken a shot at the current kings.

The 19-year-old recently moved to 8-0 with another brutal knockout, seeing off Dan Garber in the first round last Friday night.

WBC champion Tyson Fury has called Itauma the ‘future of the division’, while pundits have likened him to heavyweight legend Mike Tyson due to his explosive power that saw a teenage Tyson tear through the division en route to becoming its youngest champion.

Fury knows all about Itauma’s talent after a recent sparring session between the two big-hitters.

A 16-year-old Itauma also sparred with two-time world champion Anthony Joshua in 2021.

When talkSPORT asked the young prodigy whether Fury hits hardest, Itauma responded: “No, but he’s so unique. Joshua hit me very hard.

“I sparred him [Joshua] when I was 16. I only did a couple of rounds, but that was enough.”

Opinions have shifted on Fury and Joshua following their respective victories over MMA-champion-turned-boxer Francis Ngannou.

Fury was knocked down and got an unconvincing majority decision, while Joshua delivered a brutal knockout in the second round.

The heavyweight division will crown its first unified king in more than two decades when Fury meets IBF, WBA and WBO champion Oleksandr Usyk on May 18.

Itauma has been learning from the best and many expect him to take the heavyweight division by storm
Itauma hopes to reach those heights one day, but for now, he still believes Fury is the best around.

The heavyweight said: “He [Fury] gave me loads of advice. Currently, I think he is No.1. There are so many factors people don’t take into account.

Tyson Fury shows off brutal power in latest training footage ahead of massive fight against Oleksandr Usyk
“Joshua had something to learn off [before fighting Ngannou], Fury never did. Fury was the first person to do that crossover.

“It was great entertainment. Whether he took it seriously is another thing.”

Itauma insisted neither fighter made him wobble, but also explained the complicated nature of sparring big men before lucrative fights.

He said: “I haven’t wobbled. We’re big guys. All of us have the capability to knock each other out and it only takes one shot.

“Let’s say, I go in there and I knock someone out in sparring, they can’t spar for six weeks and I’m going to struggle to get a sparring partner.

“You don’t really learn from knocking people out in sparring.”

Itauma continued: “If I go in there, he’s just tapping and I’m trying to knock him out, I’ll look like a… you know.

“If he goes in there and tries to knock me out, but I’m going easy, it doesn’t make sense. So you have an unspoken agreement.

“You feel out what the first minute is like and you gauge it from there.”

The pair of unbeaten champions were due to collide in the heavyweight division’s first four-belt unification bout on February 17.

But just two weeks before the Saudi Arabia showdown, Fury suffered a horror cut in sparring that forced the bout to be rescheduled to May 18.

Now the Gypsy King – who watched Manchester United beat Liverpool at Old Trafford – is officially back up and running as he shared his first day in camp.

First up was a strength session with conditioning coach Kristian Blacklock with Fury pulling off an impressive leg press.

He posted: “PUMP 330kg first day of camp may 18 incoming.”

Fury then hit the boxing gym for a pad session with Bob Howard – who has cornered his brothers Tommy and Roman in the past.

The WBC champion showed off his trademark fast hands and feet – leaving some fans fearing for Usyk’s chances.

    One said: “Usyk’s in trouble.”

Another added: “No one’s beating this version of Fury.”

One hailed: “There’s no way Usyk will beat focused Fury…”

Another simply put: “They have awoken the beast.”

Fury has also got nutritionist Greg Marriott back in camp with him and boasted that Usyk’s time is coming.

Tyson will be 58 by the time the fight for the ages comes around and nearly 20 years removed from his last professional bout.

So his comeback – which is not yet confirmed as a sanctioned fight or an exhibition – has come under criticism amid safety fears.

But heavyweight world champion Fury – named after the Baddest Man on The Planet – is all for it.

He told The Stomping Ground: “I think it’s fantastic for boxing.

“You’ve got a legend in Mike Tyson. You’ve got a YouTube boxer who’s come into the game and blew it up and he’s got millions of followers and millions of views and millions of eyes.

“Good, bad or indifferent. Some people love him, some people hate him.

“So, I think it’s a really good spectacle for boxing. Brings a lot of people to the game.

“And listen, who am I to say, ‘Oh, Mike Tyson shouldn’t be boxing or Jake Paul shouldn’t be boxing’, good luck to them.

“They’re both gonna make what I call a s*** ton of money out of it. So, isn’t that what it’s about?”

Meanwhile Paul is 9-1 as a boxer who suffered his only defeat to Tyson’s brother Tommy in February 2023, but has won three since.

And he is hoping to put his pro record on the line when he takes on ring royalty in Iron Mike, in what will be Netflix’s first move into live boxing.

The bout will also be staged at 80,000-seat AT&T Stadium, where Canelo Alvarez beat Billy Joe Saunders in 2021.

    Fury, 35, said: “It’s a great stadium.

“It’d be fantastic for the guys both getting paid, both gonna put on a show. I just don’t know what’s not to like.

“Oh, OK, the guy’s 57 years old, but he’s a former undisputed world heavyweight king and one guy plays computers for a living and he’s come to boxing about a year ago.

“So, pretty even match. From being a kid on the Disney Channel to fighting Mike Tyson. Who wouldn’t want to do that?”

Fury and his family gave camera crews access to his £1.7million mansion and it appears they are back again for season two.

The Gypsy King took to Instagram to share a smiling selfie containing cameramen and a soundman in the background.

Fans can expect to see more of Fury’s home life as wife Paris featured heavily in season one.

There could also be plenty of action from the gym as Fury prepares to take on Oleksandr Usyk in an undisputed heavyweight clash.

Season one offered a glimpse into his fight preparations ahead of a showdown with Derek Chisora in December 2022.

And Netflix were so keen to tie Fury down to a second season, it was commissioned before the first even aired.

It was claimed Fury turned down the offer of another season, turning down millions in the process, with the fighter branding the filming process as intrusive, however he seems to have changed his mind.

He previously said of the first series: “I wanted out. It was a couple of weeks in, and I was on the phone to my lawyers ‘is there any way I can get out of this? I don’t know what I’ve signed up for again. I’ve made a mistake’.”

“But the filming process was particularly stressful and coupled with the fact he’s now an active boxer again after coming out of retirement, he decided to put a series two on hold for the foreseeable future.”

“There is hope within the streaming giant that it could be reprised but for the short term it is not something Tyson is considering.”

Paris stole the show at her niece’s Sweet 16 birthday party with a silk dress and matching heels.

She posted some snaps on Instagram, leading Fury to comment: “Looking 👀 a bit pregnant 🤰 here🙏💥👍🍀🙏”

The heavyweight world champion then reposted the photo on his Instagram story, where he again teased Paris was pregnant.

He wrote: “Mother of seven kids and still beautiful. Still strong and still my rock #eightincoming.”

It is not the first time Fury has hinted at his wife being pregnant, having taken a photo with his hand on Paris’ belly months before she gave birth to their seventh child, Prince Rico.

In fact, Paris even played down speculation of a pregnancy on that occasion by writing on social media: “Had a great Christmas and some lovely family filled days. (PS Tyson’s hand is just there don’t start rumours).”

The couple could be set to welcome their eighth child after Prince Rico was born in September.

Venezuela, 13, is their eldest, followed by Prince John James, 11, Prince Tyson II, seven, Valencia, five, Prince Adonis Amaziah, four, and Athena, two.

‘By far’ – Tyson Fury reveals who punches harder between Deontay Wilder and Francis Ngannou

Tyson Fury has fought Deontay Wilder and Francis Ngannou, but is in no doubt who punches harder.

The ‘Gypsy King’ was dropped to the canvas by Ngannou in his most recent outing in October 2023 but was able to recover to pick up a narrow win on the judges’ scorecards.

He shared one of the most iconic heavyweight trilogies of all-time with the ‘Bronze Bomber’, first drawing in controversial fashion in December 2018.

Their rematch saw Fury gain dominant victory over Wilder in February 2020, dropping his rival on multiple occasions.

Then in their most recent trilogy battle, Fury was knocked down twice but managed to stop the fight in the eleventh round.

Both Wilder and Ngannou are considered two of the most formidable punchers in combat sports, but Fury believes the American has the edge.

He told The Stomping Ground: “Deontay, by far. Ngannou is a big puncher, but I wasn’t really troubled by any of his punches.

“It wasn’t like he was dynamite and every time he hit me I was wobbled.

“Just one shot to the back of the head and that was it. Wilder’s still the biggest puncher I’ve ever been in the ring with by a mile.”

Wilder recently lost to Joseph Parker in a huge upset in December 2024, but could still return at the top given the dangerous dynamite in his hands.

Ngannou was unable to land his record-breaking punch in his most recent fight with Anthony Joshua, where he fell to a damaging stoppage defeat in just two rounds on March 8.

The power-punching pair have previously been in talks over a two-fight deal in both MMA and boxing, but any concrete talks have yet to re-materialise.

Wilder has already acknowledged Ngannou’s heavy hands, but still believes he has the most dynamic shots.

When addressing the debate, he said: “I’ve been doing it for a very long time, and every man I’ve faced I’ve been knocking out and putting them on the canvas.

“I don’t think that’s the same for him, he’s got power and he can punch.

“We can give him that but when it comes to the hardest puncher in all of combat sports, you’re hearing the voice and you’re looking at the man that holds that title and that’s facts.”

But with just under two months until his four-belt shootout with Usyk, the lineal heavyweight champion looks ripped.

Fury’s nutritionist, Greg Marriott, recently posted a picture of Fury with his top off and fans can’t believe how lean he looks.

One fan wrote: “He’s never looked so ripped.”

Another tweeted: “Tyson looks hungrier than ever to prove himself after that Ngannou fight. We’re about to see another historic Fury performance.”

A third added: “Bro trying to get an 8 pack for Usyk.”

The Mancunian’s current physique is a far cry away from how he looked before his last outing against Francis Ngannou five months ago.

Fury scraped a split-decision win against the Cameroonian MMA star in one of his worst performances to date.

The overriding narrative coming out of the fight was that Fury hadn’t taken Ngannou seriously.

“I have just started camp, literally a few days ago so yeah I will be fit and ready by the time the fight comes, for sure.”

The heavyweight titans will do battle on May 18 in Saudi Arabia after their fight, which was initially proposed to take place in February, was pushed back due to Fury sustaining a cut in sparring.

Turki Alalshikh (chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, who are staging the fight) has confirmed that $10million [£8m] will be taken from either fighter’s purse should they pull out ahead of May.

Paul and heavyweight legend Tyson announced that they will meet in a mega showdown on July 20 at the AT&T Stadium in Texas.

There has been criticism of the event in the boxing world, given there will be a 31-year age gap between the pair when they touch gloves.

Health concerns have been raised for Tyson, who will be 58 at the time of competing, with news that the fight could be sanctioned under professional rules.

But the event could provide record-breaking revenue for the pair, given the commercial value of their names, in addition to news the event will be streamed on Netflix.

And WBC champion Fury, who will face Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed titles on May 18, believes that both men are more than entitled to do battle.

“I think it’s fantastic for boxing,” Fury said on The Stomping Ground. “You’ve got a legend in Mike Tyson. You’ve got a YouTube boxer [Jake Paul].

“He has come into the game and blew it up and he’s got millions of followers and millions of views and millions of eyes. Good, bad or indifferent.

“Some people love him, some people hate him. So, I think it’s a really good spectacle for boxing. Brings a lot of people to the game.

Fans suggest Mike Tyson could be ‘in trouble’ as new training footage emerges ahead of fight against Jake Paul on 20th July
“It’d be fantastic for the guys both getting paid, I just don’t know what’s not to like.”

The ‘Gypsy King’ went on to suggest that on paper it is actually a well-matched clash, given Paul’s inexperience in world level boxing.

He continued: “Oh, okay, [Tyson’s] 57 years old, but he’s a former undisputed world heavyweight king, and [Paul] plays computers for a living and he’s come to boxing about a year ago. So, pretty even match.

“From being a kid on the Disney Channel to fighting Mike Tyson. Who wouldn’t want to do that? People say, ‘Oh, it’s s***’, this, that and the other. But, I bet they still watch it. Who’s not intrigued?”

Tyson has been showing he still possesses his natural power on the pads, in montages of training footage posted on his social media.

But many are concerned that his pad work is being used to justify the clash, with Tyson previously seen using a walking stick.

Both ‘Iron’ and Fury are considered two of the greatest heavyweights in their respective eras, and have always shown huge respect for one another.
