George Russell begs F1 chiefs for red flag after 100mph crash at Australian GP as full audio of team radio plea revealed

GEORGE RUSSELL begged for a red flag immediately after his 100mph crash at the Australian Grand Prix.

The British star, 26, was involved in a frightening smash between turns six and seven as he battled with Fernando Alonso.

Russell’s Mercedes was left balancing on its side after hitting the barriers with force.

With his car in the middle of the track, the Silver Arrows star was desperate for proceedings to be halted so that he wouldn’t be hit.

Straight after coming to a stop, Russell worriedly bellowed down his team radio: “Red flag, red flag, I’m in the middle of the track, red flag, red flag. Red, red, red, red, red.

“I’m in the middle. Red. F***. Why so long?”

He then thankfully added: “I’m okay, I am in the middle of the track half upside down.

“I just completely lost it, sorry guys.”

The race subsequently finished behind a virtual safety car.

In the media pen after the fact, Russell explained: “I really don’t know what happened, to be honest.

“I was half a second behind Fernando on the entry of the corner and then suddenly, before the apex, I was right on his gearbox and lost the car, ran wide.

“Unfortunately the wall was… well, I ran wide, hit the wall and then it was obviously a dramatic few seconds after that.

“It’s a disappointing end to a difficult race.”

Alonso, 42, initially finished sixth in the race.

But he was subsequently slapped with a 20-second time penalty, dropping him to eighth.

Russell’s Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton was also forced to retire from the race, after suffering an engine failure during lap 18.

After the race, Hamilton said: “This is the worst start to a season. It’s worse than 2009 I think.”

Following Mercedes’ double-DNF, team principal Toto Wolff added: “Tough to take, super tough.

“I would be lying if I said at any moment I felt positive about the situation and optimistic.

“You just need to overcome the negative thoughts and say, ‘we will turn this around’. Today it feels very, very brutal.”

F1 legend, 36, breaks silence on shock retirement U-turn rumours and replacing Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes

SEBASTIAN VETTEL has broken his silence on rumours about his Formula One retirement U-turn and replacing Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes.

The 36-year-old took his gas off the pedal and left the race track at the end of the 2022 season.

The four-time world champion wanted to call it quits on his career at Aston Martin to spend more time with his family.

But fast forward to today, the German superstar is still open to getting back on the track.

When his career ended Vettel said that “You should never say never” to a comeback.

And recently the ex-Ferrari driver has been linked to a cockpit return for the 2025 season.

After Hamilton announced in February he would be leaving the Silver Arrows at the end of the year for Ferrari there was speculation Vettel would replace him.

But Vettel has confirmed he does not intend to join Mercedes.

Vettel told BILD: “I’m still interested and follow the races. There’s a lot going on at the moment – on and off the track.

“But for me, Formula 1 is not an issue at the moment.

“When I left the sport at the time, I said that you never know if you might make a comeback.

“But the intention wasn’t for me to stop and then start again.”

On Monday Vettel was spotted behind the wheel again as he took part in a test for Porsche’s endurance team in Aragon, Spain.

He continued: “It was quite funny. I was just curious to see how such a car works and it was exciting to see.

“Of course, it was a bit of an adjustment to a Formula 1 car and after a year and a half I was maybe a little rusty.”

But for now Vettel will remain retired until the right opportunity comes calling for him.

Neymar throws the first pitch at Miami Marlins MLB season opener – the day after partying with Inter Miami owner David Beckham and wife Victoria – as the Brazil star tries out a new sport amid ACL recovery

Neymar threw the ceremonial first pitch at the Miami Marlins MLB season opener on Thursday – the day after he went for drinks with David Beckham in the city.

The Brazil star saw his throw caught by Marlins star Luis Arraez to loud cheers at loanDepot park, and the striker saluted the crowd with a big smile and finger wave into the air.

The Marlins even shared a video of Neymar’s visit on their X (Twitter) account and he also posed for a picture with Nick Gordon, Jazz Chisolm Jr and Arraez before their game against Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Brazilian is currently recovering from surgery to repair anterior cruciate ligaments and meniscus injuries in his left knee – an injury that rules him out of this summer’s Copa America, which is held in the United States.

The 32-year-old’s appearance on the mound for the Marlins game came a day after he went out with David Beckham, the Inter Miami co-owner, and his wife Victoria. Neymar shared pictures from his night out on Wednesday and Thursday on his Instagram.

The duo were tagged in a picture with David Grutman, the owner of several restaurants in Miami including Gekko, where they spent their Wednesday night.

Grecko, a Japanese steakhouse and sushi restaurant, is a celebrity hotspot in Miami. Owner Grutman appears to be close friends with Beckham and is a regular at Miami’s Major League Soccer games.

While he’s in town, Neymar could be tempted to reunite with his former Barcelona attackers in Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, with both of course now playing for Beckham’s Miami team.

Together in Spain, the trio spearheaded Barcelona’s charge to Champions League glory in 2015.

Neymar moved to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 and later played with Messi again – the Argentina World Cup winner spent two year in the French capital from 2021 before his blockbuster MLS move.

Neymar now plays for Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia, moving from Paris in 2023. While some MLS fans may see Neymar and Beckham dining together and ponder if he is moving to the United States, he currently has a contract with the Saudi league team until 2025.

And given that Neymar was one of the league’s landmark signings, it would likely cost an astronomical fee for him to leave for anyone, let alone Inter Miami.

During his time in Miami, Neymar also made it to the Miami Heat NBA game on Tuesday night – they lost 113-92 to Golden State Warriors.

Why Lewis Hamilton should quit this F1 season NOW, writes JONATHAN McEVOY

Lewis Hamilton is clearly out of sorts. So I wonder if he might not be best advised to take the rest of the season off to prepare for his final fling at Ferrari next year.

It may not be in his nature to sit out a single race, but I can see how he might be tempted. And there is a precedent for such a move. It goes back to 1979 and the tortured season Niki Lauda endured at Bernie Ecclestone’s Brabham.

Lauda suffered 11 retirements from 13 races, and enough was enough at the Canadian Grand Prix. The great Austrian’s mood matched Montreal’s miserable weather.

After practice, he told Ecclestone he was ‘tired of driving around in circles’ and was retiring on the spot, not from races but from grand prix racing (later to return, in 1982).

Ecclestone accepted this, albeit with some reluctance given there were two rounds of the championship remaining.

READ MORE: JONATHAN MCEVOY: Is this the end of an era? Mercedes’ woes in Australia had Toto Wolff questioning his own job… their malaise is the reason Lewis Hamilton is joining Ferrari and it is no wonder he is feeling out of sorts

‘Well, ‘said Ecclestone, ‘in that case you better leave your overalls behind. We’ll need them.’

Ecclestone then plucked a replacement from the crowd, a young Argentine called Ricardo Zunino, a driver on a weekend off. He had tested for Brabham, and there he was suddenly about to compete in the Canadian Grand Prix – wearing Lauda’s race suit.

Hamilton, 39, need not make it as dramatic as that, but would a rest not do him good after 18 seasons and possibly one last push left in him?

Not entirely a foreigner to parnoia, he is likely to grow increasingly frustrated at what he will view as favouritism towards George Russell, who is outperforming him and who represents the future.

Given his impending move to Ferrari, Hamilton will be left out of all conversation concerning next year’s car development. (Ironically, he was arguably, and indulgently, allowed too much of a voice in creating this year’s jalopy, despite no strict engineering expertise.) If he walked away, he could start work with Ferrari helpfully early.

What would Mercedes do in this scenario? Move on. They could look for a swap deal with Carlos Sainz, Ferrari’s brilliant winner in Melbourne on Sunday 16 afternoons after his appendix operation, or blood a youngster, such as Kimi Antonelli, who, I am told, is due at the Mercedes wind tunnel over the next few weeks. The Italian is 17, racing in F2 for Prema, and on Mercedes’ junior programme.

James Vowles, then of Mercedes and now of Williams, brought in Antonelli and predicts he will be a world champion one day.

Perhaps Antonelli’s elevation now would be premature, but whatever happens it would serve both Lewis and Mercedes to cut ties sooner rather than later.

According to my millinery source, Adam Norris proudly wore the Pirelli cap awarded on the podium to his son Lando for taking third place in Melbourne. ‘It was on all the way via Doha,’ I’m reliably informed.

Melbourne to kick off next season

Dark glasses hid some dog-tired faces in Melbourne. I don’t believe in jet-lag, actually, but my denials of its existence faced a stiff examination last week. A fly-in, fly-out trip to and from the other side of the world for the third race of the season is lunacy.

Doctors and mechanics can agree on that.

Which is why it is fabulous news that the 2025 season will, I can reveal, start in Melbourne next season for the first time since 2019 (a result of Ramadan putting paid to the counter-attraction of the big-paying Middle Eastern states).

Melbourne would have staged the opener in 2020, too, but Covid for striking. The event was called off even though the caravan had already arrived in town.

Next season will start in Melbourne next season for the first time since 2019 and it has many attractions

Next season will start in Melbourne next season for the first time since 2019 and it has many attractions

Melbourne as the season-starter has many attractions: a brilliant week’s build-up with various events down by the beach. It is wasted otherwise.

Not that the race atmosphere wasn’t special this year. The crowds – 130,000-plus on three consecutive days – were record-breaking big. Albert Park is a tremendous setting, the organisation exceptional, the lively vibe friendly. It was also clear how much the demographic has morphed. The old petrol-heads mixed with the Netflix generation: women and girls as well as men and boys.

No wonder Stefano Domenicali, who loves the place, was smiling ear to ear when I saw him on the grid. He stretched open his palms in a ‘look at this marvel’ kind of gesture.

You can wound Mohammed Ben Sulayem, but you can’t force him out

Factions wish to bring down Mohammed Ben Sulayem as FIA president.

To wit, Susie Wolff has started a criminal action in France against the governing body relating to conflict-of-interest allegations the made on the basis she is head of the Formula One-owned F1 Academy, the women-only series, and her husband is team principal of Mercedes.

But history tells us that unseating Ben Sulayem is a fool’s errand. He was democratically elected in 2021 by member clubs – 242 motoring and motor sport members in 147 countries – and is pretty much invulnerable.

Susie Wolff has started a criminal action against the FIA relating to conflict-of-interest allegations

The organisation’s inherent attachment to their president was made clear in 2008 when Max Mosley, then a leader besieged by a colourful News of the World sex sting, faced a vote of no confidence.

Of 169 delegates eligible to vote in that extraordinary general meeting, 103 voted in Mosley’s favour, 55 against. Seven abstained and four submitted invalid votes. A two-thirds majority, in other words.

Yes, wounds can be inflicted on Ben Sulayem, 62-year-old Emirati former rally driver, to destabilise him or curtail his authority. But, if he is willing to fight on, there is no conceivable way to force him out before his four-year term expires.

Volwes made right call to let Albon race

Williams team principal James Vowles got it absolutely right when he dropped Logan Sargeant for the Australian Grand Prix.

A lot of commentators rated the decision unreasonable. It was, as their argument went, unjust to hand the American driver’s car to team-mate Alex Albon when he totalled his own machinery in practice.

I understand that. It went against the natural order of things.

Christian Horner’s accuser has threatened to take him to a tribunal if her appeal is rejected

But Vowles, in his second season in command of a Williams team still in need of resuscitation, countered that Albon was more likely to score points and so potentially elevate them in what may turn out to be a tight constructors’ championship, with financial implications, at the less salubrious end of the table. (Albon finished 11th, one place off scoring.)

Yet I think Vowles’ decision-making was informed by a deeper impulse. For it is around Albon’s talent that he wishes to rebuild Williams, his professed life’s work. While one feels for the accident-prone Sargeant’s fate, the fact is that he is irrelevant to that dream. By treating him ‘unfairly’, Vowles correctly focused his eye on his wider plan.

I believe Albon buys into the Vowles project.

The Christian Horner saga is far from over

A rare pause in the Red Bull saga. The latest is that the woman accusing Christian Horner of harassment is threatening to take him to a tribunal if her appeal against his exoneration by the team’s parent company is unsuccessful.

Going down this route would present wild risks to both sides. Plenty of dirty linen would be laundered in public. This isn’t over.

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff will MISS the Japanese Grand Prix after the team’s disastrous weekend in Australia which left him questioning his own job

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff will be absent from the next Formula One race in Japan.

It is understood that Wolff’s decision to miss the race in Suzuka on April 7 was taken before the start of the new season and is not connected to the team’s performance in Australia.

Wolff admitted after Sunday’s race at Melbourne‘s Albert Park that it is ‘fair’ to question his future as team principal following Mercedes’ troubling weekend.

Lewis Hamilton qualified only 11th and the worst start to his 18-season career was confirmed when his engine expired on lap 17, while team-mate George Russell was seventh when he crashed out.

Wolff, who lives in Monaco, will be on the intercom remotely throughout the race weekend in Japan – with his duties at the circuit to be divided between senior members of the Brackley team.

The Austrian also missed last year’s Japanese GP and the ensuing round in Qatar, following knee surgery. On those occasions the team’s driver development director Jerome d’Ambrosio was handed the effective on-site team principal baton.

But it emerged earlier this month that D’Ambrosio is set to end his association with the team when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Wolff admitted in an interview last year that he intends to scale back his on-track presence in the coming years.

The 52-year-old, who has been in charge of Mercedes since 2013, recently signed a new three-year deal to remain as chief executive and team principal of the F1 operation he co-owns with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ola Kallenius.

Mercedes won an unprecedented eight consecutive constructors’ titles between 2014 and 2021 but they have tasted just one victory from their last 48 outings.

Fresh from his harrowing accident in Melbourne, Russell is expected to be at the team’s HQ in Northamptonshire later this week as Mercedes search for solutions to their underwhelming start to the season.

Russell failed to make it to the end of Sunday’s race after hitting the wall on the penultimate lap in his pursuit of Fernando Alonso.

The double world champion was adjudged to have driven dangerously by the stewards and was demoted from sixth to eighth following a post-race 20-second penalty.

However, the 42-year-old protested his innocence in a message posted on social media.

Alonso wrote: ‘A bit surprised by a penalty at the end of the race regarding how we should approach the corners or how we should drive the race cars. At no point do we want to do anything wrong at these speeds.

‘I believe that without gravel on that corner, on any other corner in the world we will never be even investigated.

‘In F1, with over 20 years of experience, changing racing lines, sacrificing entry speed to have good exits from corners is part of the art of motorsport.

‘We never drive at 100 per cent every race lap and every corner, we save fuel, tyres, brakes, so being responsible for not making every lap the same is a bit surprising. We have to accept it and think about Japan, to have more pace and fight for positions further up the field.’

The Rock reveals what he REALLY said to Cody Rhodes at the start of Raw… prior to his beatdown and making ‘The American Nightmare’ bleed at the end of the programme

The Rock has revealed what he said to Cody Rhodes prior to his beatdown of his bitter rival.

The pair are set to go head-to-head next weekend in the main event of the first night of WrestleMania in a tag team match that will see the veteran team with real-life cousin Roman Reigns to take on Rhodes and Seth Rollins.

The match will have major implications, with the main event of night two, the WWE Universal Title match between Reigns and Rhodes, to be a ‘Bloodline Rules’ match if the former win.

Should Rhodes and Rollins emerge victorious, the match will be one-on-one, leaving Rhodes with the opportunity to get revenge after he lost to the former Shield member following interference from Solo Sikoa at last year’s ‘Mania.

The Rock and Rhodes continued their rivalry on Monday night’s episode of Raw, engaging briefly in the ring before a beatdown to close the show. In the opening segment, The Rock whispered something to Rhodes, and he has taken to social media to explain what that was.

Another, which is a clip of the brawl in the rain outside the arena, is captioned: ‘Man of my word. His blood. My hands. – Final Boss.’

Fans were left curious what The Rock whispered to Rhodes after interrupting his promo in the opening minutes of the show.

Rhodes seemed stunned by the engagement, which saw The Rock, real name Dwayne Johnson, enter the arena to a chorus of cheers, which quickly turned to boos when he approached Rhodes, whispered in his ear and left without speaking on the microphone.

Fans spent large parts of the rest of the episode trying to work out what was said, though it now seems to have become clear.

Other Instagram posts shared by The Rock to his 397million followers included various clips and photos of the brawl, with captions such as: ‘LIVE on the air. The way the Final Boss commands it’, ‘It didn’t have to be this way. But now it’s the only way. – Final Boss’ and simply ‘Final Boss’.

The Rock swore again on live TV during the brawl, at one point telling Rhodes: ‘This is what happens when you f*** with the final boss.’

There had been debate over whether swearing was again allowed, with Rhodes and CM Punk also yelling expletives during the show, but it has been reported that a memo has been sent out asking talent not to swear.

The Rock had previously rubbished reports that WWE umbrella company TKO had shown desire for him to set an example for WWE’s guidelines of a TV-PG product after reports suggested talent was concerned over double standards.

Regarding blood, it has not intentionally been shown on WWE TV for a number of years, but it’s possible those rules have now changed as the product moves forward.

Eddie Hearn has slammed Francis Ngannou for appearing to suggest that his demolishing defeat by Anthony Joshua was down to his early arrival at the arena.

Joshua knocked down the former UFC heavyweight champion three times in two rounds to secure a dominant victory in Saudi Arabia.

Ngannou, in a recent interview on the MMA Hour, said that he arrived at the Kingdom Arena, in Riyadh, two hours earlier than Joshua, appearing to suggest that this was a ‘trick’ to tire him out.

Joshua’s promoter Hearn has taken exception with the comments, suggesting the 37-year-old ‘should know better’.

‘He said they got him to the arena (early), who is they? You get given times by the broadcaster.

‘He said that he was made to come to the arena early to tire him out for the fight, which is really an inexperienced boxing guy talking here, he should know better.

‘You get your time, which is the ideal time that the organiser or the broadcaster would like you there, you make your own mind up.

‘Some fighters like to get there three hours before, some like to get there an hour before, it all depends on the fighter.

‘If AJ is told for example that “we want you there at 10 ‘o’clock” and we know that the fight is happening at 1am, then we would come a little bit later, because he doesn’t want to be hanging around that long.’

Hearn also reacted to a social media post which contained Ngannou’s comments, stating: ‘I’m not sure he has come round yet.’

Ngannou after the fight confessed that he couldn’t remember being knocked out by Joshua and that from going back to his stool in between the first and second rounds, he ‘wasn’t there anymore‘.

In his interview on the MMA Hour, when asked if fighting late around 3am ‘screwed’ him up, he replied: ‘We both fight at 3am but what I think, something that happened is that they got me to the arena very early, like 10.30pm.

Last September, David told The Sun that all of his body art was dedicated to his loved ones, saying: ‘Any of the tattoos I’ve got are of the family.’

He demonstrated how he manages to maintain his chiselled abs and bulging biceps, as he effortlessly pulled himself up in the impressive clip.

His followers flooded the comments with praise, writing: ‘Anyone else hypnotised? No? Just me then; Ffs not what I want my wife to see; Well that’s made my afternoon!’

However, David was less preoccupied with his display of physical prowess and stamina, than he was by his hair.

Captioning the video, he jokingly hit out at his personal trainer, Bobby Rich, writing: “Knee’s up to your chest“ shut up Bob @mrbobbyrich hairs a mess that’s more important right now’.

Not to be outdone by her husband, Victoria also took to her Instagram with a saucy snap, wearing a strapless swimsuit.

The fashion designer showed a hint of her slender figure in the blue one-piece, posing for a selfie in front of the sea.

The mother-of-four hid her face beneath a black baseball cap from her own fashion brand, costing a whopping £110, as she effused the importance of sun protection.

It comes after David and Victoria enjoyed a night out together in Miami on Wednesday evening.

The couple attempted stay under the radar as they made their way home for the evening.

Victoria covered her face under a pair of oversized black sunglasses as she got into their car with David and they made a low-profile exit.

Earlier this week, the couple were busy soaking up the sun on their luxury £5million superyacht Seven in Miami.

They were spotted sunbathing on the top deck while yacht staff attended to their every need, with their son Cruz, 19, was seen chilling out on one of the lower decks.

Their yacht is aptly named Seven, after the former England player’s shirt number. It’s also the middle name of 12-year-old daughter Harper.

It comes after David admitted last week he didn’t realise how ‘strong’ Victoria was until they got married.

He tied the knot with the singer-turned-fashion designer in 1999 after two years of dating.

Speaking on This Life of Mine with James Corden, David revealed that he ‘really fancied’ her at the time, even though he ‘didn’t know’ who she really was until their relationship progressed.

He said: ‘I really just fancied her. I did. I just fancied her. I didn’t know what she was like as a person.

‘I just actually fancied her like most people did at that time, and I didn’t know who I was marrying [or] who I was going to be with for the rest of my life.

‘I didn’t realise what a strong woman she was, and that is what really attracted me to her more than anything.’

While David thinks Victoria is ‘beautiful’ and ‘sexy’, his heart lies with her caring side and how she parents their four children, Brooklyn, 25, Romeo, 21, Cruz and Harper.

He admitted: ‘I like a strong woman, and I like the fact that she works hard. I like the fact that she’s a great mum.

‘I like the fact that she looks after me sometimes, most of the time, and you know, we’ve created this life with four amazing children, which are the most important things in our life, so that’s why I chose Victoria… the way that she kind of runs the family.’

The retired footballer will forever hold the Spice Girls song Say You’ll Be There in his heart because the music video first attracted him to Victoria.

He said: ‘It’s my favourite because it was the song that was on the TV when I was sat in my room with Gary Neville and it came on the telly and that was when I turned around to Gary and said, ‘I’m gonna marry that one in the short black dress.”’

Battle of the boats! As David Beckham spends £16MILLION on a new superyacht… which other celebs have dug deep for their very own floating home-from-home?

For most its an extravagance one can only wish to afford, but the for uber-wealthy buying a yacht is little more than a rite of passage, and an obvious expression of one’s success.

Take David Beckham, who threw his sailor cap into a convoluted maritime ring with the purchase of his first boat in 2022.

While many of us might treat ourselves to a budget holiday, Becks treated himself to a lavish 100-foot yacht to the not too catchy tune of £5million.

And he’s since gone up in the boating world, having traded the vessel – an upscale ’90 Argo, purchased from Italian yacht manufacturer Riva – for a £16million upgrade.

The new boat is believed to be another Riva design, the 130 Bellissima, complete with its own 20 square-metre garage, upper deck jacuzzi and lower deck swim platform.

But Becks isn’t the only celebrity to set sail, so who wins the battle of the boats? read on  to find out.

    1. ROMAN ABRAMOVICH – THE ECLIPSE (£1.5BILLION)

For a time, the boat held the title of the world’s largest superyacht, but has since been surpassed by the 590ft Azzam, which is believed to be owned by Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates.

Abramovich’s Eclipse is 536ft long and 72.2ft wide, and has an estimated gross tonnage of 13,500GT.

Measuring a whopping 417ft, the Koru – so named after the Maori word for ‘new beginnings – is a fitting vessel for the third-richest man in the world.

She has four diesel engines and a maximum speed of 22 knots, although this speed is well surpassed by some of the newer superyacht builds.

It can accommodate 36 guests in comfort, and boasts a cinema, conference facilities, children’s playroom, beauty salon, dance floor, swimming pool and sauna.

Abramovich’s Eclipse is 536ft long and 72.2ft wide, and has an estimated gross tonnage of 13,500GT

Built by Blohm Voss Shipyards and designed inside and out by Terence Disdale, Eclipse was custom-made for the Chelsea oligarch in 2010.

The incredible vessel also contains two swimming pools, two helicopter pads, a dedicated disco hall, around 30 cabins, a mini-submarine, and even a missile defence system.

The seafaring mansion is the world’s second largest sailing ship, surpassed only by the somewhat underwhelmingly-named ‘Sailing Yacht A’, owned by Russian fertilizer billionaire Andrey Melnichenko.

It has armour-plating around Abramovich’s master suite, bullet-proof windows and a laser system designed to dazzle long-lens photographers.

When it was ordered, the initial cost was estimated at around $500million, but by the time Abramovich took delivery in 2012 it was spiralling towards the $1.5billion mark because of the extra luxury fittings and security measures.

Abramovich also owns three other mega-yachts, the Pelorus (377ft), the Ecstasea (282ft) and the Sussurro (161ft).

He once lent the Pelorus to Chelsea footballers Frank Lampard and John Terry as a ‘bonus’ for playing well and annual running costs for his fleet are around $25million including full tanks of petrol at around $110,000 per yacht.

    2. JEFF BEZOS – THE KORU (£400MILLION)

This staggering vessel wraps the very best of modern maritime technology with the look and feel of sailing ships of old.

The Koru is powered by a pair of extremely powerful MTU Rolls Royce engines, but also comes complete with an array of sails which allow the craft to harness the power of mother nature.

Exclusive DailyMail.com photos show the polished wooden sculpture of a curvaceous woman carved in the style of a Roman goddess, dressed in a flowing gown and with long hair

A polished wooden sculpture of a Roman goddess is carved into the ship’s bow, which some have commented looks as though it is styled on Bezos’ glamorous girlfriend Lauren Sanchez.

Not much is known about the interior of Bezos’ superyacht, but with a price tag of $500 million – and estimated running costs of roughly $25 million – it is sure to be dripping with luxury.

But the Koru alone is simply not enough for the ex-Amazon chief, who also arrived in the French Riviera with a support yacht, the Abeona, which itself measures 246ft and carries a slew of gadgets, machines and toys for Bezos and his entourage to enjoy.

These include a selection of supercars, motorbikes, smaller boats, jet-skis, and a helicopter.

Named after the first initial of his three children’s names, Indigo, Jackson and Emmanuelle – IJE was crafted by master ship-makers Benetti in Livorno, Italy.

The superyacht was bought by the media mogul in April 2019 for an estimated $200 million after it took four years to construct.

Weighing in at 300 tonnes and measuring 354ft, the IJE is designed to be a true party destination that can accommodate up to 22 guests – four more than the Koru – as well as 32 crew members.

It is equipped with a large swimming pool on the main deck, an integrated cinema, a gym, a beauty salon, a helipad, and even a nightclub, which is sure to go down well with Hollywood’s darlings.

While Bezos’ Koru may dwarf the IJE in terms of sheer size and its price tag, the attractions aboard Packer’s craft have clearly proven attractive to some of the world’s most recognisable faces.

The superyacht, which also boasts a gym, swimming pool, ‘beach club’ and cinema, and is the biggest yacht to be manufactured in Britain, is owned by the Swiss pharmaceutical billionaire Ernesto Bertarelli.

According to the manufacturer, the yacht can accommodate 22 guests and 30 crew and has a range of 5,700 miles when its tanks are fully laden with 115,000 gallons of diesel.

Estimates show the Vava II produces 238kg of carbon dioxide per mile – almost as much as the average British car emits in two months. But ship tracking websites reveal the Vava II has been mostly stationary in the Caribbean Sea recently, travelling no more than a mile a day.

    5. JK ROWLING – THE AMPHRITRITE (£22MILLION)

Rowling put the 156ft Amphitrite – formerly owned by Johnny Depp – up for sale at just over £15million in 2016.

She reportedly paid £22million for the luxury vessel from Hollywood star Johnny Depp, having fallen in love with it after chartering it for a holiday with her husband Neil Murray and their two children.

The Amphitrite, named after the sea-goddess wife of Poseidon, was built in Turkey in 2001 and was refitted in bohemian Art Deco style by Depp in 2009 at a reported cost of £5million.

The Pirates Of The Caribbean star owned the yacht when he was married to French singer Vanessa Paradis.

Depp named the yacht the Vajoliroja – a pun on the Jolly Roger using the first two letters of Vanessa, Johnny and the names of their children, Lily Rose and Jack.

Its name was changed early last year when Depp sold the yacht after marrying Amber Heard. The 1930s-style superyacht can sleep ten guests.

As well as the master bedroom on the main deck, there are four other bedrooms and spacious dining, entertaining and relaxation rooms. It was available for charter at more than £100,000 a week in the summer of 2016.

A for sale advert, placed on yacht brokers’ website Curtis Stokes & Associates, included photos of the Amphitrite’s lavishly decorated interior, including patterned wallpaper and crushed velvet seating.

An additional picture of the salon showed two separate seating areas with teak and glass double doors, sofas, end tables, coffee tables, lounge chairs and bar.

    6. DAVID BECKHAM – THE RIVA 130 BELLISSIMA (£16MILLION)

He’s perhaps better known for his achievements on the pitch, but former footballer David Beckham was been making waves of a different kind in March.

The retired Manchester United and England midfielder was joined by wife Victoria as they relaxed aboard an enormous superyacht off the coast of Miami, a second home for the couple and their four children.

The impressive looking vessel, understood to be worth £16million, is a significant upgrade on the comparatively modest 100-foot, £5million yacht reportedly purchased by Beckham, 48, in 2022.

Larger and more imposing than its predecessor – thought to be a ’90 Argo, purchased from yacht manufacturer Riva – the new boat boasts three sprawling decks and masses of space to unwind.

The vessel is believed to be another Riva design, the 130 Bellissima, complete with its own 20 square-metre garage, upper deck jacuzzi and lower deck swim platform.

    7. CONOR MCGREGOR – LAMBORGHINI TECHNOMAR 63 (£2.5MILLION)

McGregor shelled out an eye-watering £2.5million on the Lamborghini yacht back in October 2021, with the sportsman proudly revealing he was the proud owner of just one of the 63 boats that were being made.

The Tecnomar 63 has been designed and built by the Italian Sea Group and Tecnomar for Lamborghini – with Conor buying number 12 of the sole 63 yachts that will be made in a nod to his Proper No.12 whisky brand.

The 24 ton, 63-feet long yacht can reach a top speed of 69mph (60 knots) and boasts 4,000 horsepower with its pair of 24.2-litre V-12 diesels.

Inspired by the iconic car, the yacht has an angular and futuristic design with Y-shaped headlamps and the famous Lamborghini logo.

There is also a dashboard based on Lamborghini’s mid-engine hybrid sports car, the Sián FKP 37, a stark contrast to the typical layouts used by yachts.

The yacht’s exterior is inspired by the Lamborghini Miura and Countach from the 1960s and 1970s, the former of which famously appeared in the opening sequence of the 1969 film The Italian Job.
