Unbeaten boxer Tyson Fury will take on former UFC champion Francis Ngannou on Saturday night

One of Tyson Fury's former opponents exposed his real name, he said he changed it to sound "harder"

One of Tyson Fury’s former opponents has claimed that the boxer changed his name to sound ‘harder’.

On Saturday night, Fury will enter the ring in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to fight former UFC champion Francis Ngannou.

The much-anticipated bout is yet another crossover boxing fight as the world of MMA enters boxing again.

Ahead of the fight, Fury is the heavy favourite to clinch victory and preserve his unbeaten record.

One of Fury’s former opponents, Dillian Whyte has claimed that he switched his names around to make himself sound harder.

Whyte previously said to The Sun: “My real name is Dillian. I know his real name is Luke.

“He changed it to Tyson to make himself sound harder. People can have a little look around on the internet and see for themselves.”

He added: “In boxing, the name Tyson is a lot more sellable than Luke. A lot of what Tyson does and says is a game, you can never take anything he says seriously or at face value.

“How can you trust a man who doesn’t even use his own name?”

Whyte and Fury fought back in 2022 at Wembley, with Fury taking the win.

Previously, Whyte has claimed he is the real Gypsy King instead of Fury.

He said: “I will fight anyone, anywhere and that is why I am the real Gypsy King and I have even got my flat cap to prove it. Tyson Fury likes to tell people that he is but let’s see.

“Fury had a privileged upbringing, went to a posh school in an expensive area and lives in a lovely house. What kind of gypsy is he?”

But before the the two got inside the ring, a special ‘Riyadh Season’ ceremony took place inside the Kingdom Arena.

Lil Baby, Flowdan and Rosalia were among the performers on the stage but those watching at home on TNT Sports box office were just waiting for it to finish.

One wrote: “Get this opening ceremony sh**e off and the boxing on. Pathetic this.”

A second said: “Why we having an opening ceremony for a ‘fight’ that will prob last one round. My ears are bleeding…”

A third vented: “This opening ceremony performances have been total trash! Zero talent on show… “

A fourth user weighed in: “Opening ceremony can do one. Just get the fight going.”

A fifth had the same view, writing: “I can’t believe I’m seeing a ridiculous opening ceremony for a boxing main event.”

A final fan joked: “Opening ceremony is going to end up being about 10 times longer than the fight.”

The ceremony finished with the ring rising up from the ground. The undercard at the event took place in a different room in the venue.

The list of stars who were in attendance for the tear-up was nothing short of stacked, with the likes of Conor McGregor, Cristiano Ronaldo, Eminem, Kanye West, Rio Ferdinand, Aymeric Laporte, Chuck Liddell, Allan Saint-Maximin and Oleksandr Usyk all turning out.

Tyson Fury beat Francis Ngannou via split decision in a huge heavyweight clash in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The bout, branded ‘Battle of the Baddest’, saw undefeated WBC world heavyweight champion Fury take on former UFC heavyweight king Ngannou, who made his boxing debut.

A slew of celebrities and A-list stars were in attendance, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Eminem, Conor McGregor, Kanye West, Ronaldo Nazario and Vince McMahon.

The fight had been in the works for a while ever since Ngannou got in the ring after Fury’s knockout win over Dillian Whyte at Wembley Stadium in April 2022.

Ngannou, who has been trained by the legendary Mike Tyson, parted company with UFC while still holding the heavyweight title and signed with the PFL, who allowed him to compete in boxing bouts.

The WBC gave Fury their blessing and so the pair took part in a 10-round main event contest at the Kingdom Arena.

Fury is rumoured to be banking £50 million in his purse, with Ngannou receiving £10 million – the biggest payday of his career by far.

The Gypsy King is still slated to return to Saudi to take on Oleksandr Usyk in a heavyweight unification fight after the two signed their respective contracts.

Having bumped into Fury in Riyadh, the Ukrainian was ringside for the event.

Ngannou’s only boxing experience prior to this was two amateur fights back in his native Cameroon but he made a huge impression in his debut.

The Predator came to fight and showed why he is considered to be the most powerful puncher in the world by causing some serious damage to Fury’s face.

And in the third round, he put Fury on the deck with a superb left hand that shook his opponent.

He then proceeded to dance in front of Fury, a response to the trash-talking he had to contend with.

Ngannou’s fitness was also extremely commendable and he didn’t look gassed in the slightest despite the physical exertion.

The fight went the distance and to the judges’ scorecards, where Fury won a close decision.

One judge had Ngannou as the victor with the other two going for Fury.

The 37-year-old expressed his interest in running it back with Fury in the future after producing a fine display.

Tyson Fury brutally honest on Francis Ngannou victory in first interview since fight

Tyson Fury was brutally honest in his first interview since his split decision victory over Francis Ngannou.

On Sunday Fury edged past Ngannou with a contentious split-decision victory after a 10-round bout in Saudi Arabia.

Despite being knocked down in the third round, Fury took the result 96-93 and 95-94 on two of the judges’ cards, with the other judge having it 95-94 for UFC heavyweight champion Ngannou.

Ngannou was boxing as a pro for the first time, while Fury is an unbeaten WBC and lineal champion, widely regarded as the leading heavyweight in the sport.

When asked by Boxing King Media if he had underestimated his opponent, Fury, who was sporting a black eye, said: “You can’t take anything away from Francis Ngannou

“He was a good fighter and he gave me a good fight and that was it. I trained very well, I prepared very well and I don’t have any excuses or anything.

“It’s boxing. Some days you have good days and some days you don’t, and you crack on and continue and keep moving forward.”

He continued: “Usually when you get the media saying, ‘It’s a mismatch and it’s not worth watching’ you’re in for a tough night.

“And if I didn’t train as hard as I did I wouldn’t have got through that fight.”

When asked how hard Ngannou punched compared to Fury’s previous opposition, the fighter explained: “He punches hard but it was a hook in the back of the head, the knockdown in round three.

“Apart from that he didn’t get me with much else.”

On his own performance, Fury said: “I felt my timing was quite off. I’d been out of the ring for nearly a year again. It was a little bit of ring rust. It was what it was.

“It was far from one of my best performances. It wasn’t a vintage Tyson Fury but listen you do what you’ve got to do in there to get through and on to the next one.”

He continued: “I don’t know about bad night because that’s taking something away from Francis Ngannou’s performance. He did very well and that’s it really.

“It’s boxing. You can be the best version of yourself every time.”

Jake Paul downplays Mike Tyson’s punching power ahead of boxing match: “I have an iron chin”

Jake Paul really wants to taste Mike Tyson’s punching power in their boxing match this summer.

    Jake Paul, Mike Tyson

Earlier this month, ‘The Problem Child’ and ‘Iron Mike’ announced plans to compete in a boxing match on July 20th. The fight will be streamed on Netflix and will be held in front of 85,000 fans at AT&T Stadium in Texas. The venue normally known for housing the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys, will instead hold Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson this summer.

Since the announcement of the boxing match, fan reception has been mixed. Many, have slammed for Jake Paul for deciding to fight Mike Tyson, far past his best years. After all, the legendary heavyweight is currently 57 years old. Furthermore, there will be a 31-year age gap between Tyson and Paul on fight night.

Still, Mike Tyson has impressed many fans with his recent training clips. ‘Iron Mike’ has released several clips of himself training with Rafael Cordeiro, where he just destroys the pads. Tyson is 57 years old, but clearly packs a lot of power. That’s good news because Jake Paul wants to feel the power the heavyweight is known for.

The YouTuber-turned-boxer spoke about the fight for the first time publically in a recent podcast. On his YouTube channel, Jake Paul discussed how the boxing match with Mike Tyson came to be. While he originally planned to face Tommy Fury in a rematch, he’s excited to face the legend instead.

“I want to see how hard he hits.” Jake Paul stated on his podcast discussing his upcoming boxing return against the legendary Mike Tyson. “I really want to see bro. Let’s see all the legends, the myths, because you’re ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson. But I have an iron chin, people know that. I take shots so, I think people are underestimating me being able to deal with his power and that is something that will make it interesting obviously.”

He continued, “[There’s no nerves] at all. I’m excited, I literally can’t wait to look across the ring and see him and give him a f*cking death stare… I did the [first] face off and walked away and I just laughed to myself. Like this is insane. My eyeballs are the ones facing off against Mike Tyson, and I just couldn’t believe it. The fact that it’s on Netflix, I think that’s really going to revolutionize the game of boxing.”

The latest update in the ongoing Christian Horner saga is that the complainant has expressed her dissatisfaction with Red Bull GmbH’s investigation that led to the independent barrister hired by them dismissing the “inappropriate behavior“ grievance against the Briton. One of the complainant’s friends in a recent interview with the BBC has explained how the concerned woman “struggles to understand” how the independent barrister hired by Red Bull GmbH came to such a conclusion.

The complainant’s friend said, “She struggles to understand how, given the information, an independent process can have come to the conclusions it has and the actions that have followed. It’s shocking but not surprising how upset she is”.

Speaking of the emotions the complainant is currently going through, the friend added, “She is very upset, very angry, very scared, very intimidated, very lonely. And I think it’s impossible for people to understand without being in her shoes what it’s like for her”.

The friend of the complainant then added that the woman has no one to speak with as she is not permitted to do so. The friend’s remarks may be a reference to the severance fee Horner and Red Bull GmbH reportedly paid the complainant to close the investigation once and for all.

Christian Horner reportedly paid the complainant $1.1 million as severance fee

According to a report issued by Formula Passion, Christian Horner and Red Bull paid the complainant $1.1 million as a severance fee. The report then adds that because Horner has now paid this fee, the “matter is definitely closed” now”.

This report emerged just a week after the independent barrister hired by Red Bull GmbH dismissed the grievance against Horner. However, since Red Bull investigated the matter involving Horner internally, several questioned the authenticity of the investigation.

Jos Verstappen, the father of Max Verstappen, went to the extent of claiming that Red Bull should sack Horner to prevent the company’s reputation from being damaged. In an interview with the Daily Mail, the Dutchman explained how the “team is in danger of being torn apart” if Horner remained in charge of the side.

Meanwhile, rival team bosses such as Toto Wolff and Zak Brown also urged for more transparency.

It didn’t take long for Fury, who is well-known for his trash talk, to hit back at the pair.

“Everyone has a plan until… these Lancaster Bombers hit you square in the face come fight night,” he replied shortly after.

Lewis Hamilton wins big in Monaco as tyre gamble pays off and Red Bull cock-up

LEWIS HAMILTON’S roll of the dice was more suited to the high-roller tables in Monaco’s swanky casinos.

The world champion, dejected after Saturday’s qualifying shocker, gambled on running on wet tyres for 31 laps — saving him from doing an extra stop — and it paid off handsomely.

It marks a sensational turnaround in fortunes for the Brit, 31, and promises to kick-start his title defence.

Sure, he was helped by an incredibly obedient Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg, who graciously pulled aside to allow him through, ensuring there was no repeat of their smash in Barcelona.

And an incredible cock-up from Red Bull left pole-sitter Daniel Ricciardo waiting for fresh tyres — a delay that allowed Hamilton into the lead and denied the Aussie a win.

But that is not to take away anything from Hamilton’s performance in rain-hit Monaco.

On Saturday, he felt he had no chance of victory after a fuel-pressure problem.

Hamilton said: “I’m massively overwhelmed. It’s been a long time coming to get this win, not only this season — but to get another grand prix win here.

“This is one of the toughest, if not the toughest, races of the year for us.

“The previous days didn’t go well but as soon as it rained it just opened up all the doors of opportunity. I’m telling you that was the longest run to get there before I stopped for those tyres. It was crazy how long it was.

“On the last lap they were literally about to drop off!

“I managed to brush off the disappointment of qualifying really quickly.

“In the past, I would have been p***** off all night long and I would not have enjoyed it. I can’t believe I have 44 wins.”

Incredibly this was only his second victory in Monaco and it slashed Rosberg’s advantage in the title race from 43 to 24 points in what was a miserable race for the German.

He said: “We have a rule in the team, it was obvious I had to give up the place to Lewis.”

To add insult to injury, Rosberg was bumped down to seventh on the finishing line as his tyres gave up.

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff hailed Hamilton’s win as the perfect tonic following his wretched start to the campaign.

Wolff said: “Lewis needed that. It was great to get it after a terrible streak of luck.”

Heavy rain meant the race started behind the safety car. And when it did come in, the action was quickly stopped when Jolyon Palmer lost control on the painted zebra crossing and went into the barriers.

Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen had a similar moment when he lost control at Mirabeau and crashed out, while there were also smashes for the luckless Daniil Kvyat, Kevin Magnussen and Max Verstappen.

Sauber duo Marcus Ericsson and Felipe Nasr will need to explain themselves after they tangled at La Rascasse.

Red Bull boss Christian Horner apologised to Ricciardo after their pit stop blunder scuppered his chances.

The Aussie was leading when the team asked him to stop. But his tyres were trapped at the back of the garage, causing a delay of around ten seconds.

Horner said: “All we can do is apologise to Daniel that we haven’t given him a good-enough service.”
