WWE announce second Clash at the Castle event bringing UK fans a premium live event to Glasgow, Scotland in June for the first-time ever

British wrestling fans will be excited to see WWE return to these shores as the company announced that Glasgow will host Friday Night SmackDown on June 14, followed by Clash At the Castle: Scotland the next night.

The event follows the record-setting Clash At the Castle which took place at Principality Stadium in Cardiff in September 2022.

Clash At the Castle: Scotland will be the first-ever WWE premium live event to be held in Scotland and it will take place a day later on June 15 at the OVO Hydro.

WWE President Nick Khan spoke of his joy to see both events staged in Scotland in a statement in which he also lauded the vocal fanbase in the country.

‘We are excited to bring both Friday Night SmackDown and Clash At The Castle: Scotland to our amazing fans in Scotland at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow this June,’ he said.

CM Punk reveals Nick Khan is who convinced him to return to WWE after a nine-year absence… as he admits he also almost came back in 2019 before his AEW run

CM Punk has revealed the one person who played a key role in convincing him to return to WWE last year.

Punk became a free agent in September after having his contract terminated by AEW following a backstage confrontation with fellow wrestler Jack Perry.

But he was not away from the ring for long as he returned to WWE after a nine-year absence at Survivor Series in his hometown of Chicago in November.

Punk, also known as Phillip Brooks, has now explained how his WWE comeback came about, claiming it was WWE president Nick Khan who reached out to him first.

‘The action of it started the week of Thanksgiving. I’d have to look at a calendar to work out dates exactly,’ he told Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour on Monday night.

‘I got a call from Nick Khan and he was just like “hey, we want to talk to you”. And I was like “cool, on my way to the gym… [I’ve got] this coming up, you want to talk [on] Monday? Great”.

‘So it was the week of Thanksgiving, Monday.’

Helwani appeared stunned by Punk’s admission, given that Survivor Series took place just two days after Thanksgiving, and just five days on from that initial phone call.

Punk admitted that he believed Khan’s original plan was to line him up for a return at a later date, but that quickly changed when he realised that Punk was ready to compete straight away.

‘I think the call was more about “hey, we want to talk to you about coming back. We’d love you for Royal Rumble”, [on January 28], because they probably assumed I had a non-compete or something like that.

‘And I was like “no man, I’m ready to go. Let’s do it, Saturday”.

Punk had a stint on ‘WWE Backstage’ in 2019, and also revealed he came close to re-joining the organisation then, but they could not get a deal over the line.

He went on to spend two years at AEW between 2021 and 2023, but is now back at WWE, despite currently being sidelined with a torn triceps injury that will prevent him from competing at WrestleMania this weekend.

Helwani asked if Khan was the ‘difference-maker’ in getting Punk back to WWE, to which Punk responded ‘I think so’.

Punk also acknowledged that Triple H (pictured) got things moving 'very fast' for his return

He also acknowledged the involvement of WWE chief content officer Triple H in welcoming him back, explaining that the pair decided to put their past disagreements behind them to make things work.

‘Every single minute of those days [before Survivor Series] it really ramped up,’ Punk said.

‘I spoke to him [Triple H], that’s when the ball really got rolling because I asked him if he would like to talk on the phone and he said “no, I would actually like to FaceTime you so I can see you”. And I was like “Oh, that’s interesting”.

‘And we just talked about a whole lot of stuff, about stuff that was at one point quite serious to both of us that is silly now, and we just laughed, buried the hatchet, and then we started talking business. It all got done very fast.’

Mike Tyson bites back at ‘jealous’ critics of his return to the ring to face Jake Paul at the age of 58… as he brags that he gets ‘billions of views just talking about fighting’

Mike Tyson has hit out at critics of his comeback fight against Jake Paul by claiming they are just ‘jealous’ of his popularity.

Tyson announced last month that he will return to the ring to take on the ex-YouTuber, 27, at the 80,000-seater AT&T Stadium in Texas on July 20, with the fight to be shown live on Netflix.

The former two-time heavyweight champion will be 58 by the time he enters the ring, and promoter Eddie Hearn has claimed it is ‘really sad’ that he is returning, while Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez stated he has no interest in the fight.

Tyson retired from the sport in 2005, and has had just one exhibition bout against against fellow legend Roy Jones Jr since, but he does not appear concerned by his time away from the ring, and insists that billions of people will still tune on to see him face Paul.

‘I’m 58, and what? I’m getting billions of views from just talking about fighting,’ he told Reuters.

Ex-heavyweight champ Mike Tyson trains ahead of bout with Jake Paul

‘Everybody, even most of the athletes, they’re jealous… You couldn’t sell out an arena. Who at 58 can sell out an 80,000-seat arena? Why do you think he wants to fight me and not anybody else?

‘All the boxers want to fight him. But if he fought them, the only people that will come are the people that like him. Their parents might not even come watch them.’

Since calling time on his professional career almost two decades ago, Tyson has battled with physical issues and was wheelchair-bound at one stage due to sciatica.

But he helped train Francis Ngannou for his fight against Tyson Fury last year, with the former UFC champion almost pulling off a massive upset, and has got himself back into good condition in recent months.

‘Iron Mike’ has shared footage of his workouts on social media, having already started his training camp despite his fight with Paul being over three months away.

He sent out a warning to Paul last month, asking him ‘you still wanna f*** with me’ after posting one of his power workouts, as he looks to rediscover the explosiveness that made him a major force in boxing’s blue-riband division when he was at the peak of his powers.

But it will be a tall ask for Tyson, as Paul has been active since making his debut four years ago, racking up a record of nine wins and just one loss.

He tasted defeat for the first time last year against bitter rival Tommy Fury, but has since won three on the bounce, and is likely to head into the fight as the favourite due to being 30 years younger than Tyson.

Eddie Hearn insists Anthony Joshua will fight Tyson Fury ‘THIS YEAR’… but claims the Gypsy King ‘only cares about the money’

Eddie Hearne has revealed that he expects Anthony Joshua will fight Tyson Fury later this year, but warned the Gypsy King must beat Oleksandr Usyk first.

A Battle of Britain matchup between the two heavyweight superstars has been talked about for almost the entirety of their respective careers and finally looks to be one step closer to happening.

Joshua appears to be prime contender to fight the winner of Fury’s upcoming clash against Usyk where the heavyweight division looks set to be unified – but must first overcome clashes against Dillion Whyte and Deontay Wilder as Hearn confirmed the 34-year-old’s next immediate opponents.

Represented by Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, Joshua is waiting to announce his next opponent after knocking out former UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou.

Hearn was answering a question about darts prodigy Luke Littler during a recent interview with Piers Morgan when he revealed the chances of Joshua meeting Fury in the ring later this year.

‘Because the darts Championship happens in December and January, I’m gonna say that Fury vs AJ happens this year,’ he said.

‘So I’m gonna say Fury vs AJ [happens first].’

The long-running saga over if and when the duo will finally go head-to-head has had plenty of bumps along the road and plenty more are still expected to come as both teams negotiate over a deal.

Joshua and Fury had both previously signed off on a fight, but it was later cancelled as talks between the two camps eventually broke down and Fury instead fought Deontay Wilder in a trilogy showdown.

Meanwhile, Usyk shocked the division by twice beating Joshua to claim the Brit’s previous championship belts.

‘Everybody wants to see this fight and on August 12, Anthony Joshua will fight Dillion Whyte, after that he will fight Deontay Wilder in Saudi Arabia and then after that it has to be Tyson Fury’ said Hearn.

Tyson Fury turned down the Usyk fight, the mort important fight in boxing, the undisputed heavyweight worl d championship to fight an MMA fighter who has never had a fight before in his life.

‘We have to be honest, Fury cares about one thing only, the money.’

The 44-year-old later explained that Fury must beat both Usyk and Joshua to be a true boxing great, adding: ‘He has to beat Usyk and he has to beat Anthony Joshua, particularly Usyk.’

  • Lawrence Okolie opens up on leaving Tyson Fury’s trainer for a fresh start after his first loss… as he vows to bounce back by becoming Britain’s first bridgerweight world champion

Lawrence Okolie opens up on leaving Tyson Fury’s trainer for a fresh start after his first loss… as he vows to bounce back by becoming Britain’s first bridgerweight world champion

This time last year, Lawrence Okolie had just completed the third defence of his WBO cruiserweight title in a lopsided points win against Canada’s David Light, and a unification fight appeared the next logical step.

Instead, he opted to take a different route by defending his title once more against former stablemate and domestic rival Chris Billam-Smith just nine weeks later, and things did not go to plan.

Fighting in Billam-Smith’s hometown of Bournemouth, Okolie never looked at the races and was knocked down three times while also being docked two points for holding on his way to a defeat on the scorecards.

Ten months on, and Okolie, now 19-1, is yet to return to the ring. But that will change on May 24, and he has opted to jump straight back in at the deep end.

The 2016 Olympian will face WBC bridgerweight champion Lukasz Rozanski in his homeland of Poland, bidding to become Britain’s first champion in the division that was only created four years ago.

During his time away from the squared circle, Okolie has made some key career decisions, confirming his days at cruiserweight are done and leaving Sugar Hill Steward – who also trains Tyson Fury – to team up with Joe Gallagher.

Explaining the reasoning behind switching trainers, Okolie revealed that Gallagher’s drive to win convinced him that he was the man for the job.

‘I think Joe’s a great trainer, he’s been trainer of the year in the past,’ Okolie told Mail Sport.

‘I trained with him when I was sparring Parker for Wilder and he was in the corner while I was doing that. His mindset is very much “I don’t care what you’ve got on outside of the ring, I don’t care what you’ve done, we’re here to work and you need to work to win this particular fight”. So he’s got the right mindset.

‘We’re also going to Poland so you want someone in your corner that wants to win as much as you do and he cares about it so I think it’s the perfect match for this.’

The clash with Rozanski will represent a fresh start for Okolie, but he will have to go back over some old ground by travelling to his opponent’s backyard for a second successive fight.

He fell short against Billam-Smith last time out, but is confident he will get things right when he takes on the unbeaten Rozanski, who has won 14 of his 15 bouts inside the distance.

‘I think I’ll handle it very well,’ Okolie said as he looked ahead to travelling to enemy territory once again.

‘I’ve had the experience of boxing at Bournemouth where there were 15,000 Bournemouth fans that were all hoping that I lost, and for me it’s a great opportunity to right that wrong, mentally, where I go to someone’s back garden and I get the job done.

‘I think it will be a great story to tell my kids and I think I’ll relish it. This one here, I know it’s going to be a hostile environment, I know I’ve beaten four or five Polish guys, a lot of their top guys, I know that they’re going to be thinking that this is the time that they can get me, so I’m really pumped to go in there and make an incredible statement.’

Okolie has now moved up to the 224lb-limit bridgerweight division, but he still has his eye on the weight class below.

Billam-Smith and Richard Riakporhe are set to fight each other later this year for the former’s world title, and Okolie revealed he would welcome a dust-up with either man if they can be tempted up to bridgerweight.

He also has his sights set on a move to heavyweight in the not-too-distant future, and believes his fight with Rozanski will prepare him for the step up to boxing’s blue-riband division.

‘It’s all about taking it one fight at a time, but winning this fight well where this guy was once a heavyweight who’s come down to bridgerweight, it would be a good step in the right direction against a short, stocky, thick-set small heavyweight,’ Okolie added. ‘And then when it’s time to go up I’ll build into it over the next year.’

The heavyweight division has come alive in recent months, with Fury and Anthony Joshua both involved in huge crossover fights with Francis Ngannou over in Saudi Arabia.

Fury will face Oleksandr Usyk in an undisputed match-up just six days before Okolie steps in the ring with Rozanski in arguably the biggest heavyweight fight this century.

Okolie expects his step up to heavyweight to come after Fury, Usyk and Joshua have called time on their careers, but the 31-year-old is excited to get himself into the mix sooner rather than later and potentially become a three-weight world champion.

‘I think it’s the best heavyweight scene that we’ve seen in decades. It’s good to see the likes of Eddie [Hearn] and Frank Warren working together. I think the heavyweight division is amazing right now,’ he said.

‘I do think it’s only got another year, 18 months left of it because you’ve got the likes of Anthony Joshua, Usyk, Fury, they’re all pushing on to that point where they’re about to potentially step out or they’ll start to take a decline so the likes of [Joseph Parker, [Daniel] Dubois and so on, those names are going to start coming up and starting to get world titles.

‘It will be interesting to get into the mix. I think those names that I mentioned before are so well-established, they’ve paid their dues so they’re only going to fight against each other for eight-figure paydays. The rest of us that are coming up after will have to duke it out.’

Okolie’s willingness to challenge himself against the very best is to be admired, and now he faces his ultimate acid test.

Another defeat would be tough to take, and could leave him wondering where to turn next. But a win would put him back on top, with some huge fights on the horizon.

It’s sink or swim time for Okolie, who is determined to prove that one loss will not define him.

Waller – whose real name is Matthew Farrelly – uploaded a clip to Instagram recently where he was lifting weights with Theory, his tag-team partner.

Both WWE identities were incensed when another person walked past as they were filming their workout.

‘You don’t see the camera there, idiot?’ Waller stated in the clip.

The vision soon caught the attention of Swoll, who called out the fired up pair for over-reacting.

Swoll – who has more than four million Instagram followers – then added if Theory kept insulting, he was ‘happy to end your career on social media and in WWE.’

The back and forth wasn’t over yet, with Waller labelling Swoll’s followers a ‘bunch of fat, ugly losers’.

Swoll retorted with: ‘Someone tell this Ken doll looking like the lead from a knockoff Starship Troopers movie that went straight to DVD, I’ll meet him at Wrestlemania, SmackDown, Raw, or ANYWHERE!’ as the ugly feud threatened to intensify.

Jake Paul’s fight against Mike Tyson WILL be an exhibition, Iron Mike confirms… as the the 57-year-old reveals why he’s ‘scared to death’ ahead of summer showdown

Mike Tyson has confirmed his summer showdown against Jake Paul will be classified as an exhibition instead of a professional bout.

The boxing world was left stunned after the shock news that YouTuber Paul and veteran fighter Tyson would face each other in Texas on July 20 in a lucrative bout set to be aired live on Netflix, with fans and pundits widely criticising the event.

But one of the main questions was whether the fight would be officially sanctioned as a pro bout that would go on both of their records, or if it would just be an exhibition with no winner declared.

Tyson, 57, has already fought in an exhibition since his career ended, taking on Roy Jones Jr in 2020 – while all of Paul’s fights have been on his professional record.

Revealing the official classification of the fight, Tyson defended it and insisted it would still be fought under ‘real fight’ rules.

‘This is called an exhibition, but if you look up exhibition, you won’t see any of the laws we’re fighting under,’ he told Fox News.

‘This is a fight. I don’t think he’s faster than me. I’ve seen a YouTube video of him at 16 doing weird dancing. That’s not the guy I’m fighting. This is a guy who’s going to try and hurt me, which I’m accustomed to, and he’s going to be greatly mistaken.’

When asked by the news anchor if Tyson would ‘kick his a**’, the hall of famer boxer was bullish, but said he was still ‘scared to death’ ahead of the summer fight.

‘Right now, I’m scared to death,’ he added. ‘As the fight gets closer, the less nervous I become because it’s reality, and in reality I’m invincible.’

Tyson also said he was keen to teach Paul – 30 years his junior – a lesson, though he claimed there was no bad blood between them.

‘I will do just that but dislike him? I do not have no grudges against him, he’s beautiful – not from that perspective.’

The fight between Paul and Tyson is being held at the 80,000-seater AT&T Stadium in Texas, which is the home of NFL team Dallas Cowboys.

In addition to the fight being announced as an exhibition, the rules for the fight have also been revealed.

Paul and Tyson will be wearing 16-ounce boxing gloves instead of the traditional 10-ounce gloves used in professional fights.

Two-minute rounds will be in place instead of the usual three-minute rounds and there will be no official judges ringside to score the fight.

The majority of the rules - other than the glove weight - are the same as when Tyson took on Roy Jones Jr in an exhibition bout in November 2020

The only way either Paul or Iron Mike could win the fight would be if there was a knockout on the night.

Mike Tyson reveals ‘ultimate knockout punch’ secrets

What was the secret to Mike Tyson's punching power? Could Schwarzenegger in his prime throw a harder punch than Tyson? - Quora

Boxing legend Mike Tyson considerably passes on wisdom through his podcast, but it’s not only outside-of-the-ring advice he offers.

The former ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’ revealed what fighters must do to emulate his famous knockout punches.

Taught by the late great Cus D’Amato in the early 1980s, Tyson was bred into a destructive machine that was eventually given an ‘Iron’ monicker.

Tyson blasted his way through amateur and pro careers, obliterating everything he touched until he became the world’s youngest heavyweight champion.

    Mike Tyson record

Beating Floyd Patterson’s previous record, Tyson wrote his history. He subsequently ruled over the division with contempt for five years.

So, how did he manage to get such force into his punches? – He opened up on his secrets during an emotional interview with Sugar Ray Leonard.

The 80s icon, who Tyson admitted he worshipped back in the day, was on hand as the New Yorker explained the method.

“I learned from the master, Cus D’Amato. He was my mentor. He was throwing punches, throwing combinations. And the art of punching is when you can throw two punches that sound like one,” said Tyson.

How to throw a knockout punch

“Anyone here who understands the art of fighting knows what I’m saying. Two punches that sound like one. Do you know how magnificent your punches have to be to sound like that?

“The ultimate knockout puncher,” he added.

Leonard then quipped: “The ultimate knockout punch. Don’t get hit by that!”

Tyson and Leonard’s chat, released on February 27th as part of Mike’s ‘Hotboxin’ Podcast’ series, has already gone down in history as one of the great fight conversations of all time.

It features a quote from Tyson that will forever be linked to his post-fight career persona.

Struggling to deal with the viciousness inside him during his peak, Tyson could declare his ‘Iron’ Mike personality ‘dead’ in later years.

But Tyson still fears that one day ‘Iron’ Mike will come back. And with it, ‘unleash the hell’ he tries so hard to suppress.

It’s a fantastic insight into the man, who is a much-loved part of the sport today.

Fans are lucky to get such unbridled access to Tyson as he sits down with a smoke in hand to give everything he did in the ring on the microphone.

If you get a spare 85 minutes, do yourself a favor and listen to the whole thing.

Day 1 of the 2024 pre-season testing in Bahrain saw Max Verstappen at his dominant best. The Dutchman was in full control of the lap timings, securing the fastest laps in both the morning, and the afternoon session. When Verstappen bested Lando Norris’ time by a whopping 0.822 seconds, cameras switched to Gianpiero Lambiase, who smiled ‘devilishly’ after seeing the times.

The clip soon went viral, with fans claiming something much more daunting than the RB19 was coming soon. In a video uploaded on X, Verstappen spoke about the viral moment. He detailed Lambiase’s reaction after revealing he, too, sent the viral clip to his race engineer.

“Yeah, I  sent that footage to him. He had to laugh. He doesn’t like to be on camera, so he was a bit like, ‘Ugh! I shouldn’t have done that!’”

Many regarded that smile as ominous. For a brief moment, fans had the feeling that maybe, just maybe, McLaren found something over the winter break that could help Norris topple Verstappen. That belief was very short-lived.

Given that pre-season testing is no true measure of a team’s race pace, fans are thinking about what Lambiase’s reaction could mean. While not running on race-spec, Verstappen was able to zoom past Lando Norris’ time with ease in Bahrain earlier this week. Eventually, he held the fastest lap of the day, which was over 1 second faster than second-placed Norris.

Positivity in Red Bull camp despite Max Verstappen’s absence

Having spent the entirety of day 1 out on the track, Max Verstappen gave way for Sergio Perez on Day 2. With Perez at the helm, Red Bull picked up right where they left off. Lambiase assessed the team’s performances and concluded it was another good day of testing for them. A red flag owing to a loose drain cover led to Red Bull changing its approach for the day.

However, it did not affect their findings, as they were able to accumulate mileage at a good rate. The result was positive for the car’s reliability and systems sign-off. Lambiase also revealed Perez evolved the car’s setup to his liking after taking Verstappen’s day 1 setup as his baseline. Concluding his statement, the British engineer claimed his team had a lot to analyze overnight before stepping into an “important final day of testing.”
