The boxing legend has 44 KO wins to choose from, but he has picked his favourite knockout opponent from his illustrious career.

Mike Tyson has named his favourite knockout opponent

Mike Tyson is one of the greatest boxers of all time, and he has finally named his favourite knockout opponent from his glittering career.

In a professional career that spanned over two decades, ‘Iron Mike’ managed an astonishing 44 of 50 wins inside the distance, a percentage that can be pitted up against any heavyweight in the past century.

During a recent feature with ESPN, Tyson revealed that his 1987 knockout of Pinklin Thomas to retain his heavyweight title is the one that he rates over his other 43 knockouts.

When asked about which was his favourite, Tyson simply said:

“Pinklin Thomas. Because I hit him with 15/16 punches on the chin to bring him down. He took a tremendous amount of punishment.”

Tyson has knocked out numerous big names such as Frank Bruno, Larry Holmes and Trevor Berbick to name a few, boasting one of the most impressive highlight reels in the history of the sport.

He still holds the record for the youngest heavyweight world champion in the history of the sport but despite this, there is an opinion that somehow Tyson never fulfilled his potential, due to his career being derailed by a jail stint at the start of the 1990s.

Mike Tyson was arguably the heaviest hitter American had produced in the last century, until a man named Deontay Wilder came along.

Wilder boasts an even more impressive knockout ratio than the legendary ‘Iron Mike’, stopping every opponent he has faced with a knockout except for current WBC world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

Tyson was last in the ring during an exhibition fight against Roy Jones Jr, but even though there are no current plans to return, he has not ruled the prospect out.

  • Tyson Fury didn’t always have his iconic voice it was changed by a punch to the throat

Tyson Fury didn’t always have his iconic voice it was changed by a punch to the throat

Fury is well known for his voice, whether it’s speaking or singing, but the heavyweight world champion didn’t always sound like that.

Tyson Fury didn't always have his iconic voice it was changed by a punch to the throat

Tyson Fury always catches people’s attention, whether it’s what he says, sings or the way he says it, but his voice wasn’t always like that.

The world heavyweight champion isn’t necessarily the kind of person who ‘when he speaks you listen,’ after all there’s been too many broken promises for that.

Sure, when Fury says he’s going to beat someone he inevitably does, with the draw to Deontay Wilder, in their first meeting, the only fight he’s failed to win in his professional career, and he might have won that one too.

But promises over recent years to fight both Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk, that have not come to fruition, has certainly left fans not willing to listen to the 34-year-old so intently.

It’s not always talking that Fury does, there’s also been his signature singsong after big fights, and he even threatened to bring out an album last year after ‘retiring.’

No matter what the Manchester born boxer is saying, or singing, it is certainly distinctive because of his almost iconic gravelly voice.

But that wasn’t always the case, in fact, once-upon-a-time, with his much higher voice and spaghetti hair, he’s almost unrecognisable as a fresh faced porefessional, although the accent gives him away.

An interview from his first paid fight, on the Carl Froch vs Jean Pascal undercard, against Bela Gyongyosi, shows how much has changed for him.

Whilst not many people manage to land a life changing punch against Fury once the ring bell sounds, perhaps only Wilder’s knockdown in that first fight, one landed shot did change his voice.

The WBC world champ revealed in an interview with the BBC that a sparring session with light heavyweight boxer Ty Mitchell back in 2015 led to his raspy tones.

“I got punched in the throat in 2015 and it left me with a blood clot in the throat,” the undefeated boxer explained, “So it causes me to talk like this. I was supposed to have it removed and I got too afraid.

“I think it sounds better anyway, there’s more pain in it.”

Maybe all it needs to change him back to his original voice is another punch to the throat, like in cartoons when someone gets amnesia from being smacked in the head and then it reverses with another one.

Fans would be hoping the next opportunity for someone to test that theory would be against Usyk, or maybe Joshua, but now it looks like he’ll be facing Zhilei Zhang.

Most of us would prefer to listen to him singing American Pie again than that fight, which is saying something…

Tyson Fury has ended his hiatus from social media to call out Joe Rogan on Instagram.

Tyson Fury tears into 'bald midget' Joe Rogan after Jon Jones comments, he's fuming

Tyson Fury has called Joe Rogan a “bald-headed midget” after the podcast host suggested he “doesn’t have a f***ing chance in hell” if he came up against UFC legend Jon Jones in a fight.

Last month, while speaking to comedian Andrew Schulz on the JRE podcast episode, Rogan was discussing how a fight between the best heavyweights in boxing and MMA would play out.

Unsurprisingly, the UFC commentator believes there would only be one winner – the person who knows how to wrestle; even if he was coming up against WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

“No one thinks that Tyson Fury can beat Jon Jones in a fight,” he said. “No one thinks that. Tyson doesn’t think that.”

Rogan added: “You want to talk about who’s the baddest man on the planet? If Jon Jones and Tyson Fury are locked into a room, I’m pushing all of my chips on black.

“Tyson Fury is an amazing boxer [but] he doesn’t have a f***ing chance in hell of making it out of that room. Zero chance, he would have to catch Jon immediately with one punch and I just don’t see that happening, man.

“The threat of the takedown looms so large, that shot would come so unexpectedly and when he gets his hands around you, you’d be stunned.”

The podcaster did admit that a haymaker from Fury could make things interesting but he believes ‘The Gypsy King’ would struggle to deal with Jones’ takedown ability.

You can see Rogan’s answer in a full six-minute clip from the JRE podcast below.

Weeks later and Fury has now responded to Rogan with a prediction of his own.

“I’m the baddest man on the planet,” Fury said on his Instagram story. “I heard Joe Rogan say something about me the other day, and I’ve been off all the social media so I didn’t reply to the little p*ssy. The little f***ing bald-headed midget.

“I heard him say that Jon Jones could f*ck me up if we were in a room together. I don’t think so. Not a man born from a mother can f*ck me up in a room on our own.

“Whatever happens in that room, I’d be walking out. Not a f***ing problem.”

    Here is that call-out:

Here’s how social media reacted to the debate.

One said: “In a ring, Tyson wins. In a cage, Jones ends it in 2 minutes max. Locked in a room, Jon Jones takes his soul,” while another commented: “Tyson would be on the ground in 9 seconds. No chance he walks out of any room with Jones.”

A third wrote: “No doubt in my mind Jones hits him inside leg kick immediately takes him down and submits him unconscious- Did I miss anything? I’m a Fury fan for sure – but let be real.”

A fourth added: “In a boxing ring yes. Outside of that in a real fight Jones would hand this man a beating like he hasn’t seen before. And I’m not a Jones fan. But respect where respect is due.”

Thoughts on who would win in a fight between Tyson Fury and Jon Jones? Does Joe Rogan have a point?

Jon Jones has leapt to Joe Rogan’s defence after the UFC commentator was called out by Tyson Fury.

The boxing megastar surprised fans when he emerged from his social media hiatus and immediately started slamming Rogan for his recent comments about Tyson and Jones.

Speaking hypothetically, Rogan claimed that if Fury and Jones were locked in a room together, the ‘Gypsy King’ wouldn’t stand “a f**king chance in hell” of winning.

“If Jon Jones and Tyson Fury are locked into a room, I’m pushing all of my chips on black,” Rogan said on an episode of his podcast.

This upset boxing’s heavyweight champion, who hit back, saying: “I heard Joe Rogan say something about me, I’ve been off all the social medias and didn’t reply to that little p***y, little f**king midget, bald-headed midget.

Now UFC legend Jones has come out to bat for Rogan.

“Hey Tyson, it seem like Joe may have struck a nerve,” the UFC heavyweight champ tweeted.

“I’ll admit there’s no one touching you in that ring right now, but let’s not let that confuse you with what would happen if you stepped foot in my cage.

“If you ever want to put some of those questions you got going on to rest, give Dana a call. I’ll help you out.”

    Fury wasn’t done there though.

In a seperate video, he then called out a bunch of big-name combat sports athletes, including calls out Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz.

Fury declared: “I am the baddest motherf**ker on the planet.”

Interestingly, ex-UFC champ Francis Ngannou – who just signed a mega-money deal with the PFL, threw down the gauntlet.

He wrote: “I have been here the whole time @Tyson_Fury. Since none of these boxers want to fight, let’s make it official.”

Tyson Fury responds to UFC star Jon Jones, lays down outrageous challenge

Tyson Fury has laid down a challenge to Jon Jones after the UFC superstar issued a message to him on social media.

The exchange between Fury and Jones comes after Joe Rogan claimed the UFC heavyweight champion would beat the undefeated boxer in a hypothetical showdown.

Speaking on his podcast, the UFC commentator said: “You want to talk about who’s the baddest man on the planet? If Jon Jones and Tyson Fury are locked into a room, I’m pushing all of my chips on black.

“Tyson Fury is an amazing boxer – he doesn’t have a f**king chance in hell of making it out of that room. He has no chance of making it out of that room. Zero chance.

Naturally, Rogan’s claim didn’t go down well with the self-proclaimed ‘Gypsy King’ who fired back with a profanity-filled message.

“I heard Joe Rogan say something about me, and I’ve been off all the social medias and didn’t reply to that little p**sy, little f**king midget, bald-headed midget,” he furiously said.

“I heard him say that Jon Jones could f**k me up if we were in the room together.

“I don’t think so. Not a man born from a mother could f**k me up, in a room, on our own. Whatever happens in that room, I’d be walking out. Not a f**king problem.”

Jones backed Rogan and called for a bout against Fury in a cage.

“Hey Tyson, it seem like Joe may have struck a nerve,” he tweeted. “I’ll admit there’s no one touching you in that ring right now, but let’s not let that confuse you with what would happen if you stepped foot in my cage. If you ever want to put some of those questions you got going on to rest, give Dana [White] a call. I’ll help you out.

Well, Fury has since hit back, insisting he’s not an MMA fighter – but would happily welcome ‘Bones’ to the ring for a boxing bout.

“I see Jon Jones has piped up, Jon you’re talking about me in the cage. I’m not a cage fighter mate I’m a boxer, the best boxer actually,” he said in a video on Instagram.

“If you want to come into a boxing ring and fight me, be my guest and let me know. You don’t have to call anybody else, no dramas, nobody,” he continued. “You call me because it’s a boxing fight and I’m the boss in this gym, me.

“You’re a great fighter Jon, but you’re no boxer that’s for sure. All the best and good luck.”

It looks like Fury has moved on from ex-UFC heavyweight king Francis Ngannou as he eyes a monstrous fight against Jones.

However, of course, the reality of Fury vs. Jones happening is extremely unlikely considering the MMA fighter’s contract with the UFC.

But that won’t stop the bickering between the two combat heavyweight beasts.

Jake Paul challenges Tyson Fury to fight Francis Ngannou, suggests extravagant two-fight deal

Jake Paul has sensationally challenged Tyson Fury to fight Francis Ngannou in an extravagant two-fight deal.

Ngannou has joined the PFL following his UFC departure, having signed a lucrative contract with the MMA promotion.

But he intends to have a bout inside the squared circle before he makes his PFL debut next year.

‘The Predator’ has eyed the likes of former world champions Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder as he seeks a big-money boxing showdown.

Paul, however, wants to see him take on WBC world heavyweight champion Fury and proposed a two-fight deal.

He wants one bout in boxing and one bout in MMA and wants the fights to take place in the UK and Africa.

On Twitter, he wrote: “This would be iconic. 2 fight deal – boxing and mma. Francis Ngannou vs Tyson Fury.

“One fight in the UK, one fight in Africa. I know Francis is man enough to get into the boxing ring. @Tyson_Fury you man enough to get in the cage?”

Fury hasn’t fought since his victory over Derek Chisora last December and seems eager to return to action. But he still hasn’t got a fight date as a host of opponents continue to call him out.

Paul, who also has a deal with PFL, welcomed Ngannou to the company and wants to see them work with the UFC to put on a blockbuster event.

But it appears the ex-UFC heavyweight king wants a clash against Joshua, having spoken to promoter Eddie Hearn while touting Africa as a potential destination.

“Anthony Joshua is a fight we like,” said Ngannou on The DAZN MMA Show.

“We spoke with Eddie [Hearn] once but that was when Joshua was about to fight Franklin. If we bring this to Africa then it is going to be massive.

“I think this will get him excited, that he can fight in this continent.”

Mike Tyson clearly certain of who would win between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk

Mike Tyson has given his prediction for the potential world heavyweight championship unification fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.

Boxing fans are waiting with not such bated breath for the two world champions to go head-to-head to decide an undisputed champion at the weight.

The pair were meant to fight at the end of April but talks eventually broke down with both fighters being blamed by the other for the collapse.

It’s all got a bit tiresome especially as big fights for Fury have fallen through before, most notably when he was meant to face fellow Brit Anthony Joshua.

There has been talk that the two men could still meet in December in Saudi Arabia on the same bill that would see AJ take on Deontay Wilder.

Between the four men, who have all held versions of the world titles at one point, they could be earning $200 million for their night’s work.

However as of yet those fights haven’t been announced and instead the Gypsy King is spending his time beefing with people on social media.

Should the fight take place though the one time ‘most dangerous man on the planet,’ Iron Mike, is predicting that his namesake will win.

“Tyson Fury [will win], he’ll over power him,” Tyson recently told iFL TV.

“Usyk can’t run that long with him. Tyson’s going to wear him down, he’ll get on him, wear him down and then he’s going to pound on him.

“Usyk’s not going to win a title running. Usyk’s not going to be Tyson moving and running, at some point in the fight he’s going to have to fight.

“Fury’s a different fighter to AJ, he’s going to be more consistently on the guy but AJ nearly stopped him with body punches, AJ was hurting him with body punches but he was doing it often enough.”

Conor McGregor brutally refused to call Jake Paul by his name as he made his prediction for his upcoming fight against Nate Diaz.

He fancies the Stockton star to beat Paul but failed to refer him by his name as he gave the YouTuber-turned-boxer a savage nickname.

Speaking to Matchroom ahead of Katie Taylor’s big fight against Chantelle Cameron, the UFC fighter ruthlessly called him a ‘donkey’.

“I fancy him [Nate Diaz] for it, to be honest,” he told Ariel Helwani. “The man’s a bit windy. The other cat’s a bit windy.

“He’s [Jake Paul] a donkey. The guy’s a donkey, but you’re a cat. The donkey has a kick as well.

“So, you just got to be worried about that.”

McGregor and Paul have exchanged insults as the 26-year-old continues his pursuit of landing a fight against the Irishman.

And the American appears to be confident in getting his wish as he believes it’s ‘inevitable’ he faces the ‘Notorious’ down the line.

Asked about a potential bout against McGregor, he replied: “Inevitable. I think he’s got trauma from when Nate slapped his head off.”

McGregor, meanwhile, is set to return to action later this year, having been out of action since his gruesome leg-break against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 back in July 2021.

He’s in line to meet Michael Chandler before the year’s out as he looks to snap a two-fight losing skid.

  • Behind the Legend: Muhammad Ali’s Achilles’ Heel in the Boxing Ring

Behind the Legend: Muhammad Ali’s Achilles’ Heel in the Boxing Ring

Boxing icon Muhammad Ali secretly admitted that he didn’t believe he could beat a prime Mike Tyson in a dream super-fight.

That is according to boxing legend George Foreman, who asked his former rival if ‘Iron’ Mike “could beat anybody.”

Ali, who passed away in 2016 at the age of 74, called it time on his professional boxing career after defeats to Larry Holmes and Trevor Berbick.

Tyson, who is a huge admirer of Ali, would burst onto the professional scene during the mid-1980s and built a feared reputation inside the squared circle.

Tyson would become the youngest boxer in history to win a heavyweight title after beating Ali’s former opponent Berbick for the WBC championship in 1986.

The Baddest Man on the Planet famously promised Ali that he would avenge his defeat to Holmes, with Tyson sealing a fourth-round stoppage win in 1988.

Foreman, who was defeated by Ali in their historic Rumble in the Jungle showdown in 1974, made his return to boxing in 1987 after a 10-year hiatus.

The 72-year-old American star revealed that Ali told him he “didn’t have the confidence” that he would have defeated Tyson inside the ring.

“Muhammad Ali told me himself,” Big George told Fiaz Rafiq for the book Muhammad Ali: The Life of a Legend.

“I said to him, ‘Do you think Tyson could beat anybody?’ He said, ‘Man, Tyson hits so hard.’

What made Muhammad Ali 'The Greatest' in the ring?

“He felt Tyson hit harder than anyone he’d faced. He told me once that he didn’t have the confidence he could have beaten Mike Tyson.”

Foreman has previously claimed that Tyson would have been a “nightmare in the ring” and he “didn’t want anything to do” with him.

The former two-time world heavyweight champ believes he never stepped in the ring with Iron Mike due to the boxing legend’s revered trainer, Cus D’Amato.

Tyson’s 37-fight unbeaten streak came to an end in 1990 after a stunning upset caused by Buster Douglas at the Tokyo Dome in Japan.

The 55-year-old American superstar went on to win his next eight fights, including winning his second WBC title with a third-round stoppage win over Frank Bruno.

Tyson, who was plagued with issues outside of the ring, suffered back-to-back defeats to Evander Holyfield in the 1990s and a 2002 defeat to fierce rival Lennox Lewis.

The former undisputed world heavyweight champ retired from professional boxing after defeats to Danny Williams and Kevin McBride.

Tyson has admitted that he “wouldn’t win the real fight” with Ali if they had ever clashed inside the squared circle.

Iron Mike claimed “nobody beats” the Greatest in a fight, saying there was “no man like him.”
