Deontay Wilder criticizes Mike Tyson, saying he only defeated mediocre opponents: “Evander Holyfield defeated Tyson twice, and Lennox Lewis defeated him once.”

A great fighter like Mike Tyson still receives unfavorable comments from the younger generation.

“Iron” Mike Tyson stepped into the professional ring on March 6, 1985, at the age of 18 years and 249 days, and since then, he achieved 37 consecutive wins before his first defeat against Buster Douglas on February 11, 1990, at the age of 23 years and 226 days.

Five years after his first loss, during which time “Iron” Mike Tyson managed to reach the pinnacle of the heavyweight division by capturing the WBC belt when he defeated Trevor Berbick on November 22, 1986, becoming the youngest heavyweight champion at the age of 22 years and 145 days.

Tyson’s illustrious career continued until he was 38 years and 246 days old when he suffered his sixth career loss against Kevin McBride, leading the living heavyweight legend to retire from boxing on June 11, 2005.

Would prime Mike Tyson beat Deontay Wilder? - Quora

Leaving behind a glorious career (50 wins, 6 losses), Tyson is revered by fans, successors, and the professional community. However, Deontay Wilder (37 years old, standing at 2.01 meters), a former heavyweight world champion, is not particularly impressed.

Nicknamed “The Bronze Bomber,” Wilder stated to WBN, “Of course, I love Mike Tyson. I have respect for all the pioneers who contributed great things to boxing. But I want someone to answer this question. How many great fighters did Mike Tyson really fight? To me, there are only two. Evander Holyfield defeated Tyson twice, and Lennox Lewis beat him once. Do you understand what I’m saying?”.

Deontay Wilder gave a savage assessment of Mike Tyson's career in classic video, discussed defeats to Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis | talkSPORT

But Wilder has no reason to criticize the legend, as he himself was unable to defeat Tyson Fury. In their three encounters, “The Bronze Bomber” only managed to achieve 1 draw and suffered 2 losses. Despite always claiming not to be impressed by the “Gypsy King,” observing their most recent fight on October 9, 2021, it’s clear that Wilder struggles against Fury.

To determine who is better, a specific match is needed. However, given the 19-year age difference between Mike Tyson and Wilder, they cannot stand in the same ring. To approach an answer to the question of “who punches harder,” the Worldboxingnews website states that Wilder has 42 knockout wins, while Tyson has knocked down opponents 44 times.

Their direct victory count is almost equal. However, in terms of physique, the 2.01-meter-tall Wilder has a more imposing presence, while Tyson, at 1.78 meters, may have an advantage in delivering powerful blows. Meanwhile, “Iron Mike” possesses the ability to unleash heavyweight punches at a higher speed to finish off opponents.

  • UFC Legend: Jon Jones challenges Mike Tyson, claiming” he can defeat Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali on the same day.”

UFC Legend: Jon Jones challenges Mike Tyson, claiming” he can defeat Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali on the same day.”

Former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen boldly declared that Jon Jones could defeat two boxing legends in the same day.

“While it’s good for Jones to show respect for Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali, claiming that he can defeat both boxing legends in one day is quite audacious. I don’t think Jones understands how good they were,” Sonnen emphasized.

Tyson and Ali are two iconic figures in boxing history, while Jones is a top star in the UFC. Comparing the 32-year-old fighter to these two legends is somewhat far-fetched.

This is not the first time Sonnen has praised Jones. The ESPN MMA analyst had previously declared the American star as the best in his weight class.

“When Jones says he wants to be the greatest of all time, I think that’s accurate. Former champion Tito Ortiz had a few wins, but he didn’t face the same level of competition that Jones has faced. Jones is the best in his weight class,” the former American fighter added.

Jones is known as the youngest champion in UFC history, having won the light heavyweight title at the age of 23 years and 242 days. Throughout his career, the American fighter has secured 22 victories out of 24 fights, including 9 wins by knockout. He was the first to take down and defeat Daniel Cormier, a former Olympic wrestler.

Jones and Sonnen had previously faced each other at UFC 159 in 2013, in a bout for the light heavyweight title. The match ended in the first round with Jones claiming a technical knockout victory.

Jon Jones has set conditions for challenging Mike Tyson

Following the recent disputes between UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones and President Dana White, the issue of fighter pay has once again come into discussion.

While the majority of support leans towards the fighters, Jon Jones “demanding a Deontay Wilder-type payday,” as revealed by Dana White, has drawn opposition from many. Legendary boxer Mike Tyson, a close friend of White, also agrees that Jones cannot command such a huge sum.

“Listen, can UFC become bigger than boxing, right? Higher viewership rates, right? But a UFC fighter will never make more money than an A-list star. Conor had to fight Floyd Mayweather to earn $100 million. Jon Jones will have to fight me if he wants a massive payday,” remarked Mike Tyson.

In response to this statement, Jon Jones also didn’t hold back as he immediately proposed a “cage match” condition with Mike Tyson.

“I’ve heard the news, Mike Tyson. I will box you in a four-cornered ring if you promise to rematch me, but it has to be a real fight inside the octagon. And because I have great respect for you, I promise not to break anything on you,” Jones wrote.

Clearly, Mike Tyson would never agree to such an unreasonable cage match condition from the UFC’s light heavyweight champion. As for Jon Jones, the boxer born in 1987 likely sees this as a retort to Mike Tyson’s support for UFC President Dana White, with whom he has a disagreement regarding fighter pay in the UFC.

  • Andrew Golota: Mike Tyson’s opponent even crazier than ‘Iron Mike’

Andrew Golota: Mike Tyson’s opponent even crazier than ‘Iron Mike’

Andrew Golota was a heavyweight boxer who faced off against Mike Tyson and displayed even more erratic behavior than the infamous “Iron Mike.” Despite his talent in the ring, Golota gained a reputation as an enigma due to his shocking actions, including biting one of his opponents and being disqualified twice in fights he was winning.

In 1996, Golota had a significant fight that resulted in a chaotic riot, so severe that Madison Square Garden, New York’s renowned boxing venue, refused to host any fights for three years. Then, in 2000, Golota abruptly quit after just two rounds against Tyson, leaving both the American fighter and the crowd bewildered and infuriated.

Considering his tumultuous upbringing, it’s perhaps not surprising that Golota exhibited such erratic behavior. He was dubbed the “Foul Pole” due to his numerous fouls during fights. Golota’s childhood was exceptionally difficult, even compared to Tyson’s upbringing in Brooklyn. At the age of five, his father took his own life, and his mother struggled to cope, resulting in Golota being placed in an orphanage.

Similar to many troubled individuals, boxing provided Golota with some solace. He showcased his exceptional talent as an amateur and even won a bronze medal at the 1988 Olympics. However, his behavior outside the ring continued to be problematic. In 1990, during a bar fight, Golota humiliated a man by stripping him naked and discarding his clothes in a garbage bin.

“I didn’t intend to harm the guy,” Golota later explained. “I simply wanted to embarrass him.” Nevertheless, he faced assault charges and decided to move to Chicago to commence his professional boxing career in the United States.

Golota accumulated an impressive record of 28 wins, all but three by knockout (25 KOs). However, it was in his 24th fight that the controversy surrounding him began to gain attention. After being rocked by Samson Poʻuha, Golota resorted to biting his opponent’s neck—an act that went unnoticed by the referee, allowing Golota to eventually secure a knockout victory over the Tongan fighter.

Andrew Golota is the Mike Tyson opponent crazier than him whose low blow sparked riot that led to arrests | talkSPORT

In 1996, Golota faced a significant challenge when he fought Riddick Bowe. Bowe, a former undisputed world champion, had recently defeated Evander Holyfield in their thrilling trilogy, winning the series 2-1. Bowe was widely regarded as one of the top heavyweight boxers in the world, and the match against him represented a significant step up in class for Golota.

“How do you train for a bum?” remarked a rather out-of-shape Riddick Bowe prior to the fight, clearly underestimating the challenge posed by Golota.

However, Golota was a physically strong and heavy-handed heavyweight, standing at 6 feet 4 inches tall, with an impressive amateur background. He demonstrated his skills by consistently outpunching Bowe, using his jab effectively and repeatedly rocking the sluggish American with powerful right hands.

Unfortunately, for every notable head shot Golota landed, he also landed numerous punches below Bowe’s belt. After losing several points due to low blows, Golota’s trainer, Lou Duva, pleaded, “Don’t throw anything below the shoulder! Just aim for his head.”

Despite the warnings, Golota couldn’t resist delivering another blatant shot to Bowe’s groin in the seventh round, leaving Bowe crumpled on the canvas. As a result, Golota was disqualified. Even with the three point deductions, Golota had performed so well that he was leading on all three judges’ scorecards at the time of the disqualification.

What do you think might have happened to Andrew Golota's psyche to make him quit after the 2nd round with Mike Tyson? - Quora

Following the disqualification, chaos erupted. Furious fans started a riot, and Bowe’s team attacked Golota, resulting in Lou Duva, the 74-year-old trainer, being knocked down, and Golota himself sustaining a cut on his head from being struck with a walkie-talkie.

Jim Lampley, the HBO host, who was shielded from the violence by analyst George Foreman, described it as the most terrifying situation he had ever witnessed during his extensive years of being ringside. The brawl lasted for about half an hour, leaving 22 people injured and resulting in 16 arrests.

Six months later, the rematch between Golota and Bowe took place, and unbelievably, it unfolded in almost the same manner as their first encounter. Bowe entered the ring weighing 17 pounds less than before. However, the toll of years of grueling fights and weight fluctuations had taken its toll on Bowe, and Golota once again had the upper hand, even scoring a knockdown in the second round. However, Golota was disqualified for low blows, this time in the ninth round.

With a record of 28 wins and 2 losses, and never having been stopped or defeated on points, Golota was widely regarded as a new threat in the heavyweight division. However, his reputation suffered a significant blow in his next fight, which happened to be his first heavyweight title challenge against Lennox Lewis.

Mike Tyson: How hard does Iron Mike punch? Opponents reveal all

In one of Lewis’s best performances, he quickly overwhelmed a stunned Golota in the first round, knocking him down and ultimately finishing him off in a mere 135 seconds. While Golota had demonstrated resilience and durability in his battles with Bowe, his mental fragility became apparent as a major issue.

In October 2000, Golota faced another troubled heavyweight figure, Mike Tyson. Prior to the highly anticipated bout, Tyson openly admitted, “I felt bad for that little referee. Between me and Golota, one of us might clock his ass.”

The first round of the fight ended explosively, with Tyson aggressively knocking down Golota with a powerful right hand. However, Golota managed to get back on his feet, and although Tyson dominated most of the second round, the Polish boxer fought back with several shots of his own.

There were no indications of what was about to unfold at the end of the second round when Golota informed his corner that he had no intention of continuing the fight. He then got up and began pacing the ring.

Here's Exactly How It Would Feel to Get Punched by Mike Tyson

One of Golota’s cornermen sternly warned, “Don’t you f***ing do this!” while Al Certo, Golota’s trainer at the time, tried to forcefully put the gumshield back into his boxer’s mouth. Reflecting on the incident later, Certo remarked, “I should’ve shoved it up his ass.”

Despite their efforts, Golota remained resolute in his decision, and when the crowd caught wind of his surrender, he was bombarded with drink cups, some containing soda while others contained a more unpleasant-smelling liquid, as he hastily made his way back to the dressing room to prevent another potential riot.

Tyson, who had ominously risen from his stool upon hearing Golota’s retirement, seemingly prepared to confront Golota, was eventually calmed down by his own training team. After the fight, Golota attributed his self-sabotage to Tyson’s alleged headbutts during the match.

While sympathy for Golota was understandably scarce, a trip to the hospital revealed that the boxer had sustained a fractured cheekbone and a herniated disc in his neck from his brief six-minute encounter with ‘Iron Mike’.

Adding to the unusual nature of the fight, it was later declared a no-contest instead of a TKO victory for Tyson, as it was discovered that Tyson had failed a post-fight drug test for marijuana.

‘The Beast’ Bob Sapp has gone in on Mike Tyson for not fighting him: “Tyson Is Very Scared To Fight Me”

MMA veteran Bob Sapp commenced his professional career in 2002 with Pride, subsequently transitioning to K-1 where he achieved a brief period of success. His remarkable career spanned 16 years, concluding with his final fights in 2018.

While he emerged victorious in his retirement bout against Abdelrahman Shalan in September 2018, ‘The Beast’ experienced a significant decline in performance leading up to that fight. Prior to his win, Sapp had suffered defeats in 17 of his previous 18 fights, including a streak of 14 consecutive losses. Notably, 15 of those defeats came by way of knockout or technical knockout finishes.

Bob Sapp recently attracted attention by uploading a video online where he targeted Mike Tyson. The 48-year-old made provocative statements, claiming that he would extract Tyson’s heart in the hopes of arranging an exhibition fight between them.

In an interview with MMAnytt.se, Sapp delved into the origins of his conflict with Tyson and discussed the potential showdown, asserting that he was the one responsible for bringing Tyson out of retirement.

Sapp stated, “Our initial interaction took place in Las Vegas back in 2003. There was some pushing and shoving when I met him at the Bellagio. I take credit for enticing him out of retirement. It’s impossible to be a Mike Tyson fan without being a Bob Sapp fan, because I am the person who brought him out of retirement! If it weren’t for me, nobody would be discussing him at all!”

Shredded Bob Sapp Calls Out Mike Tyson: 'Fight Me Or My Crew' | MiddleEasy

Bob Sapp claims that he was initially set to be Mike Tyson’s opponent for his highly anticipated boxing comeback. However, Sapp alleges that Roy Jones Jr. was brought in as a replacement to exclude him from the lucrative deal.

According to Sapp, he was meant to face Tyson in the match that eventually took place between Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. in November 2020. Sapp believes that this change was orchestrated to prevent him from participating in the multimillion-dollar agreement. While Sapp partially blames Tyson’s manager and brother-in-law Azheem Spicer, he ultimately points a finger at Tyson himself, suggesting that fear played a role in Tyson’s decision not to face him.

Bob Sapp continues to assert that Mike Tyson is scared to fight him. He accuses Azheem Spicer, Tyson’s manager and brother-in-law, of orchestrating a plan to exclude him from the fight and blames Tyson’s fear as the driving force behind it.

According to Sapp, negotiations initially started at $10 million but escalated to $20 million, and eventually settled at $30 million with the potential for an additional $20 million through pay-per-view sales. However, the deal fell apart due to Azheem’s demand for a significant portion of the earnings to go directly into his own pocket. Sapp believes that Tyson’s fear intensified when he saw a picture of him, leading to the subsequent price increases.

Sapp strongly asserts that Tyson is genuinely scared of him, citing his imposing physical stature as the primary reason for Tyson’s apprehension. He acknowledges that other fighters may also be fearful, considering his size and appearance.

Bob Sapp expresses his desire to have the bout against Mike Tyson take place in Thailand. Known for maintaining an impressive physique, particularly for his age, Sapp has attracted significant attention. He mentions other well-known figures, including Thor from Game of Thrones, Shaquille O’Neal, and Evander Holyfield, who have expressed interest in facing him in a similar showcase.

Sapp humorously remarks about Holyfield’s response, noting that it was challenging to understand him due to his slurred speech, which he attributes to being “punch drunk.” He suggests that Holyfield’s condition would make it too dangerous for him to participate in the ring.

While Sapp acknowledges other offers that may be on the table, his primary focus remains securing a match against Tyson. He hints at plans to host the potential event in Thailand, alongside his close friend Samer Suojhayer, the CEO of Yuth Sport Gear. Sapp envisions a significant spectacle, emphasizing his enthusiasm by exclaiming, “Let’s go!”

“Which a Lot of People Felt Was Being Justified Wrongly,” Mike Tyson Goes Back in Time to Pick His Favorite Knockout

A boxer trains in isolation, and the sport per se offers an individual journey. The solitude triggers an appreciation for those who went before. Even some of the greatest looked up to names in the era bygone, drawing inspiration as they create their legacy. Mike Tyson broke the thirty-year-old record of Floyd Patterson by becoming the youngest Heavyweight champion at age twenty. He inspired a generation of boxers and fans as the most formidable knockout artist of the era. But which knockout he took as an example?

Muhammad Ali remains the signature representative of boxing. Mike Tyson often quotes Ali as one of the greatest influences of his life. In the post-Ali era, boxing and the Heavyweight division, in particular, lacked a face, a symbol to carry forward the greatest’s legacy. Mike Tyson emerged to fill in the vacuum. The youngster refined his techniques at Cus D’Amato‘s workshop. He rode on the back of twenty-five knockouts when he became the WBC Heavyweight champion on November 22, 1986.

The ‘Iron’ knockout, which a young Mike Tyson held in high regard

If given a chance, one might wonder who the boxing wonder, in his prime, will hand-pick his favorite knockout of all time. During an interview, he was asked, “What was your favorite knockout of all time?” ‘Iron’ Mike responded, “My favorite knockout, I have to recall, is Jersey Joe Walcott, when he was knocked out by Joe Louis in the eleventh round. My reason because a year previous, they fought, and Walcott gave him a beating, outboxed him, outsmarted him, and at the end of the fight, they gave the decision to Joe Luis, which a lot of people felt was [being] justified wrongly.

But it took the winds out of everyone upon learning that Louis won by a split decision despite what looked like an apparent underperformance. Hence to dissuade all naysayers and retire as a title holder, Joe Louis agreed to a rematch next year.

Tyson Fury keeps it real in reacting to Anthony Joshua's knockout win over Francis Ngannou

Tyson Fury gave an honest reaction after witnessing Anthony Joshua’s devastating knockout victory over Francis Ngannou in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Fury fought Ngannou at the Kingdom Arena back in October and despite winning a close decision on the judges’ scorecards, produced a sluggish display inside the squared circle.

The WBC world heavyweight champion was knocked down by the debuting Cameroonian in the third round and many felt as though he did not deserve to win.

Ngannou returned to the ring for a second time against Joshua on Friday evening and there was optimism given the level of performance he churned in last time out.

But two-time world heavyweight champion Joshua put on a boxing clinic and got the job done in just two rounds.

After two knockdowns, ‘AJ’ put the former UFC champion with a brutal right-hand that folded Ngannou.

He required medical treatment following on from the stoppage and was fortunately able to get to his feet.

Joshua moved to 28-3 professionally after a fourth win on the trot and made it clear afterwards that he wishes to finally fight Fury in what would arguably be the biggest bout in boxing history.

Fury, who has two bouts with Oleksandr Usyk scheduled for the undisputed heavyweight titles coming up, praised Joshua for his impressive win.

As per Michael Benson of talkSPORT, Fury told DAZN: “I’m sure Oleksandr Usyk will have something to say something about that. I had a s*** performance against Ngannou. AJ did absolutely fantastic and lit him up with a right hand. If he fights me after I beat Usyk twice then it will be a different game.”

The contest was initially pencilled in for February 17 but a cut suffered by Fury in sparring led to it being postponed.

Jake Paul challenges Tyson Fury to fight Francis Ngannou, suggests extravagant two-fight deal

Jake Paul has sensationally challenged Tyson Fury to fight Francis Ngannou in an extravagant two-fight deal.

Ngannou has joined the PFL following his UFC departure, having signed a lucrative contract with the MMA promotion.

But he intends to have a bout inside the squared circle before he makes his PFL debut next year.

‘The Predator’ has eyed the likes of former world champions Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder as he seeks a big-money boxing showdown.

Paul, however, wants to see him take on WBC world heavyweight champion Fury and proposed a two-fight deal.

He wants one bout in boxing and one bout in MMA and wants the fights to take place in the UK and Africa.

On Twitter, he wrote: “This would be iconic. 2 fight deal – boxing and mma. Francis Ngannou vs Tyson Fury.

“One fight in the UK, one fight in Africa. I know Francis is man enough to get into the boxing ring. @Tyson_Fury you man enough to get in the cage?”

Fury hasn’t fought since his victory over Derek Chisora last December and seems eager to return to action. But he still hasn’t got a fight date as a host of opponents continue to call him out.

Paul, who also has a deal with PFL, welcomed Ngannou to the company and wants to see them work with the UFC to put on a blockbuster event.

But it appears the ex-UFC heavyweight king wants a clash against Joshua, having spoken to promoter Eddie Hearn while touting Africa as a potential destination.

“Anthony Joshua is a fight we like,” said Ngannou on The DAZN MMA Show.

“We spoke with Eddie [Hearn] once but that was when Joshua was about to fight Franklin. If we bring this to Africa then it is going to be massive.

“I think this will get him excited, that he can fight in this continent.”

Iron Mike, who is now 56 years of age, wants to face Logan Paul in a wrestling match – vowing to ‘kick his ass’.

In fact, Tyson is so keen on making his return that he’s willing to do it all for free.

“Have you ever seen me wrestle before?” he told Forbes.

“I would do it! I would kick his [Logan Paul’s] ass, yes I would do it. Even though I love him, though.

“This is what I found out about WrestleMania: Everybody says ‘that’s fake, that’s fake.’ But the check is real.

“Deep down inside—don’t let [WWE] know—I would do this for free.”

Tyson is known well by wrestling’s die-hard fan base.

He made his debut way back in 1998 while serving a ban for biting Evander Holyfield’s ear the year before.

Later that year, he made a cameo appearance at WrestleMania 14, featuring alongside Shawn Michaels and Steve Austin.

Tyson was also a special guest host of Monday Night Raw in 2010.

But aside from getting in the rig himself, Tyson often talks about his love for the sport and has a good relationship with the superstars themselves and the fans.

YouTuber sensation Paul recently re-signed with the WWE on a multi-year deal.

But while Tyson is a big WWE fan of the sport and Paul is poised to become a huge name, the idea of a boxing match between the two has been floated over a wrestling match.

Tyson made his long-awaited comeback in 2020, taking on Roy Jones Jnr in an exhibition bout.

Meanwhile, Paul has faced one of the greatest boxers of all-time in Floyd Mayweather.

That said, it seems lacing up the gloves isn’t too appealing for the ageing warrior.

“I don’t think he’s really that serious [about a boxing match], but I’m just happy he’s receiving the success that he has,” Tyson added.

The rumoured purses for Fury vs Usyk and Joshua vs Wilder have been revealed

The rumoured purses for two huge heavyweight boxing fights involving Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk, Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder have been revealed.

In recent weeks, there have been reports that Saudi Arabia are planning to stage a mega heavyweight event in December which see Fury take on Usyk and Joshua against Wilder.

According to talkSPORT, the rumours of the mega event have been confirmed as true by the representatives of Usyk, Joshua and Wilder. Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn reportedly went to Saudi Arabia to advance talks.

Now, talkSPORT’s Simon Jordan has spoken about the potential purses for each fighter.

He told talkBOXING: “You start hearing about the distribution deals and how you would buy Anthony Joshua out of DAZN. Or how you would do a dual-broadcast deal.

“Or how maybe the Saudis would cut it. What I’ve been hearing in the loosest of terms is the cut.

“£200million – £90million to Fury, £50million to Usyk and £30million each for Joshua and Wilder.”

Jordan continued: “That was an interesting piece of understanding that I got from that because I was thinking to myself, ‘Does Joshua accept £30million?’

“Who are the two champions? Who are the two A-sides? Who are the two people that are gonna bring the perceived numbers to the Saudis to make it interesting for them to do? Then it becomes a carve-up.

“These guys expect to get paid the value. Fury’s got a sense of value of himself and he will take it as a point of principle. Because ultimately if there’s gonna be x-amount of money on the table, [he] wants the bulk of it.”

After the rumoured purses were posted on social media, Hearn was quick to respond.

The Brit simply tweeted a crying laughter emoji as a reply to one of the tweets.

Boxing fans react after Bob Arum reveals 'frontrunner' for Tyson Fury's next fight

Boxing fans online have reacted after promoter Bob Arum revealed the ‘frontrunner’ to face Tyson Fury next.

Fury is looking for his next assignment, having failed to agree terms to face WBA (super), IBF and WBO world champion Oleksandr Usyk.

The self-proclaimed ‘Gypsy King’ hasn’t fought since his TKO victory over Derek Chisora last December.

Andy Ruiz Jr, who famously stunned Anthony Joshua to become world champion, had been mooted to face Fury.

But it appears Zhilei Zhang is now the ‘frontrunner’ to take on the undefeated British fighter.

That’s according to Fury’s American promoter Arum, who claims they are trying to finalise the deal this weekend for the championship bout to take place in July.

Fight fans on social media are split over a potential bout between Fury and Zhang.

One Twitter user wrote: “Obviously I think Fury wins but this is a decent fight that I’d like to see but I don’t think it’s the best preparation for Usyk.”

A second tweeted: “Zhang got no chance against fury, Ruiz would have been a better fight.”

A third claimed: “Embarrassing. Ducking Usyk and Saudi deal.”

A fourth said: “Is that a joke?”

A fifth commented: “Wow!! Another fight no one wants to see!!”

Another argued: “This would be a great fight actually.”

Zhang, who has just one loss on his professional record, returned to the win column following his defeat to Filip Hrgovic by stopping Joe Joyce.

He handed the Brit the first defeat of his professional career last month.

The Chinese fighter punished Joyce before securing the victory in the sixth round.

The 39-year-old captured the WBO interim world heavyweight title as a result of his big win and appears set to fight for Fury’s WBC belt next.
