Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis both named same boxing legend as their toughest ever opponent

Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis both named the same boxing legend when asked to pick their toughest ever opponents.

Tyson and Lewis are two of the most iconic boxers in history, and the pair shared an infamous rivalry.

The pair met for the final time in a blockbuster mega-fight in 2002 at The Pyramid in Memphis, Tennessee, with the ‘Lion’ emerging notorious.

Lewis knocked out ‘Iron Mike’ in the eighth round with a vicious right hook, one of five KOs he suffered during his career.

However, neither of the fighters picked the other when asked to name their toughest career opponent.

Both chose Evander Holyfield, one of the other top boxers of the era.

Before the fought each other, both heavyweight legends crossed paths with Holyfield during the 1990s, with

Tyson and Holyfield met in back-to-back fights in 1996 and 1997, with the latter ending in a DQ after Tyson bit his opponent’s ear.

In an interview with The Ring Magazine, the ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’ explained why Holyfield was the best opponent he faced.

“Great champion: chin, heart, determination, work ethic, demeanour,” ‘Iron Mike’ said.

Lewis drew with Holyfield at Maddison Square Garden in March 1999, before winning the rematch by unanimous decision.

In an Instagram post, Lewis outlined why he regards Holyfield as his toughest opponent of all time.

“People seem to be genuinely surprised when I tell them [Holyfield] was my toughest opponent, not to be confused with my toughest fight, which was [Ray] Mercer, but when you really dive into why that is, it actually makes a lot of sense,” he said.

“Holyfield, like me, has an extensive amateur pedigree that has served him well throughout his professional career.

“He started boxing at eight years old and was an Olympic bronze medalist in 1984. Before he moved up to the heavyweight division, he’s a man that cleared out the cruiserweight division to become the undisputed champion, and arguably the best ever, in that weight class.

“That’s a lot of experience and it’s safe to say that by the time we met for the undisputed heavyweight championship in 1999, he had seen it all.

“When you combine Evander’s amateur and professional experience, you would be hard pressed not to see the kind of success he’s had in the ring.

“I may tease him a bit on our two fights, he knows I won both fights even though he won’t admit it, but in all seriousness, he’s the only man that has gone 24 rounds with me.”

The two-time former unified world heavyweight champion has made his prediction.

Anthony Joshua makes feelings very clear on Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul fight as prediction made

Anthony Joshua has made his prediction for the much-anticipated exhibition bout between former world champion Mike Tyson and YouTuber Jake Paul.

It was confirmed last month that Tyson will go head-to-head with Paul, who extended his professional record to 9-1 with a first-round victory over Ryan Bourland in Puerto Rico on March 2.

The event will be streamed exclusively on Netflix on Saturday, July 20, 2024 from the 80,000-seat capacity AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas – home of NFL side Dallas Cowboys.

Partnering with Netflix to bring Paul vs Tyson to audiences worldwide has been described as a “strategic decision” to ensure that the event reaches six generations of sports fans.

Tyson commented on the event, saying he was “very much looking forward” to stepping into the ring, but many have expressed concern for the 57-year-old, including former cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew.

“I am worried about it personally, but listen, you don’t know what’s been agreed between the two,” Bellew told Spin Bet.

“It’s frightening that Mike Tyson is going back into a boxing ring against somebody who is more than 30 years younger than him. It’s just a bit nuts.

“I’m hoping that the fight is a bit of a circus and a bit scripted because I wouldn’t want to see Mike get hurt in any way shape or form.”

So what does Anthony Joshua think about the event? Speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show, AJ commented on Tyson’s age before making his prediction.

“He [Tyson] is older now,” Joshua said. “I pray that he comes out healthy.”

He added: “I think Jake Paul [wins] because of youth – that’s the only thing… I personally think [influencer boxing] is really good. I think the boxing hardcores, they don’t like it because they think, ‘Why are they disrespecting our sport?’

“But I think that person brings all these people into boxing which benefits everyone else. Everyone viewing helps.”

Tyson Fury, meanwhile, has thrown his support behind Tyson’s much-talked-about return to the sport, and called the upcoming bout against Paul an “even match”.

“I think it’s fantastic for boxing,” he told The Stomping Ground.

“You’ve got a legend in Mike Tyson. You’ve got a YouTube boxer [Jake Paul]. He has come into the game and blew it up and he’s got millions of followers and millions of views and millions of eyes. Good, bad or indifferent. Some people love him, some people hate him.

“So, I think it’s a really good spectacle for boxing. Brings a lot of people to the game.”

Fury added: “Listen, who am I to say, ‘Oh, Mike Tyson shouldn’t be boxing or Jake Paul shouldn’t be boxing’, good luck to ’em. They’re both gonna make what I call a sh*t ton of money out of it. So, isn’t that what it’s about?”

Mike Tyson pulled off two incredible darts shots while playing blindfolded during TV appearance

Mike Tyson once managed to hit not one but two incredible shots while playing darts BLINDFOLDED.

Tyson, who returns to action on July 20 when he faces Jake Paul, appeared on the ‘Celebrities Throwing Sharp Objects Blindfolded’ segment on FOX Sports’ ‘Crowd Goes Wild’ back in 2013.

He was armed with three darts and the former world heavyweight champion claimed it’s ‘Shaolin monk stuff’ as he hit the board.

Presenter Katie Nolan praised him for finding the board, but what followed next were two near perfect shots.

His second effort managed to land in the outer bull as the studio audience erupted in cheers.

‘Iron’ Mike is still unaware of how well he’s doing due to the blindfold and launches his final dart.

It’s nearly identical to his first throw and is mere inches from a legendary bullseye.

Tyson insists that he’s completely blind during the throws and fixes his blindfold to prove it.

“I don’t want to say anything, I’m not gonna brag but – thank you,” the 57-year-old smiled before bowing at the studio audience.

    He added: “I’m a Shaolin monk, I told y’all that I’m a Shaolin monk.”

Tyson recorded a staggering 55 points, which took him to the top of the show’s scoreboard.

It put him above former NFL player Terrell Owens, who originally topped the table with 36 points.

The show segment was discontinued in 2014 so Tyson’s point total will stand the test of time.

Tyson, meanwhile, will lace up the gloves once again as he meets Paul in an exhibition bout that will be aired on Netflix.

It will be his first appearance in a ring since his clash with fellow boxing legend Roy Jones Jr back in November 2020.

Taylor Swift is dating Kansas City Chiefs star tight end, Travis Kelce. However, the mention of her name with Fernando Alonso continues to excite Formula 1 fans. This time around, the pop icon has done no favors to herself in reviving the rumors. It is the lyrics to a recently released song by her that have caused a frenzy.

Taylor Swift recently dropped a new album, The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology with 31 songs. While the Swifties may be excited to listen to each song, Fernando Alonso fans are particularly hooked to one. That is the 18th song on the album- ‘imgonnagetyouback’. A part of the lyrics reads,

“Small talk, big walk, act like I don’t care what you did
I’m an Aston Martin that you steered straight into the ditch
    Then ran and hid.”

The mention of Aston Martin was enough for the Formula 1 and Alonso fans to rekindle the conversation over him dating Swift. That is because Alonso drives for the Aston Martin F1 team. While the mention of the automaker in the song has nothing to do with F1 or Alonso, Swift will surely appreciate the extra attention being given to her latest album.

Even Motorsport.com could not keep itself away from the development taking social media by storm. They posted:

Citing the reliability of the publication, one fan retweeted Motorsport.com’s post.

Another user linked the lyrics to Alonso’s teammate Lance Stroll, referring to one of the Canadian’s crashes from the past.

One called for the sense to prevail and called for Motorsport.com to get over it.

How Fernando Alonso fueled the Taylor Swift dating rumors

Fernando Alonso was never the one to set the record straight to end the speculations over his love life. Taking the opposite route, he had immense fun in fuelling the rumors further. On one such occasion, the Asturian posted a video on TikTok with Taylor Swift’s Karma playing in the background.

Ahead of the 2023 Azerbaijan GP, when Sky Sports asked him if he was enjoying the added attention, he smiled and responded, “Yeah, probably. But I’m just focused on Baku and racing.”

The F1 media had some fun of their own as well. Reporters would go out of their way to sneak in lyrics to Swift’s songs in their interviews with Alonso. The Spaniard’s aforementioned response was in reference to the ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’, mentioned by the interviewer in his question.

Max Verstappen is an avid soccer fan, and in his own words watches soccer “from all over the world”. There are two teams that hold a special place in the Dutchman’s heart- PSV Eindhoven, from his home country, and FC Barcelona from Spain. However, a third team has now been added to the mix.

Verstappen’s girlfriend, Kelly Piquet, is from Brazil, and the Dutchman spends a lot of time with her family in South America. A soccer-crazy country, their league, the Brazilian Serie A, is immensely popular, and Vasco da Gama is one of the most supported teams in the country.

As revealed by Verstappen, several of Kelly Piquet’s family members support Vasco. As quoted by AZScore, Verstappen said,

“One night we came up with the idea that I had to support Vasco. I thought: “OK. It’s fine with me”. I will support them now because I love watching football (soccer) from all over the world.”

    View post on X

Verstappen also revealed that he received a shirt from Vasco because the 26-year-old is arguably their most famous “fan“. He then went on to discuss Vasco’s latest star signing, France’s Dimitri Payet. “He is an incredible player. He certainly makes a difference”, explained the Red Bull driver.

    Max Verstappen’s love for soccer

Max Verstappen is a huge soccer fan and was once a regular at PSV Eindhoven’s home matches at the Philips Stadium. On several occasions, he also stated that he would love to become a regular amongst the PSV faithful once again, provided F1’s schedule gets easier on him.

Verstappen is also a fan of the Captain of the Dutch football team, Virgil van Dijk, who plays for Liverpool. He revealed in 2023 (as per SportsBible) that he is a Manchester United fan, but still supports Van Dijk during the latter’s matches.

Verstappen then also made a stark comparison between Manchester City of the Premier League and his own team in F1- Red Bull. “I think Man City is winning a little bit too much,” he said. “But I guess I could say the same about us! The other ones just need to get better.”

This year, the UEFA European Championships take place, and Verstappen will be keeping an eye out for the Netherlands. Under Ronald Koeman, a former hero of the national team, Verstappen is expecting big things.

Max Verstappen has been in a relationship with Kelly Piquet since 2020, and the Dutchman has become a crucial member of his partner’s family. He spends a lot of his vacation time with them, but recently detailed how they have been a bad influence on him.

As part of the Piquet family’s holiday traditions, the members get together to celebrate Christmas in Brazil. It is a must, and Verstappen being Kelly Piquet’s partner, never misses the occasion. Everyone who visits speaks Portuguese since they hail from Brazil, and Verstappen too wanted to learn the language. Piquet’s family obliged.

However the first things they taught Verstappen were the curse words. Per Verstappen, what he learned was to obscene to repeat on camera.

“They (Piquet’s family) influence me with a lot of bad words which I cannot say on the video call. So I prefer to not speak in Portuguese.”

Verstappen and Piquet’s relationship is one of the most adored in the F1 community. Their bond is close and deep, as they even stay together in Monaco, with Piquet’s daughter Penelope.

In fact, Verstappen has also developed a very strong bond with Penelope, who saw the Dutchman win a race for the first time ever in Japan two weeks ago.

Max Verstappen has banned one topic from being discussed when at home

Verstappen has always been a man of simple taste and set priorities. At home, he ensures he is available for Piquet and Penelope, both physically and mentally. As such, the 26-year-old disconnects himself completely from the world of motorsports. He turns off all news related to the same, and even stays away from social media.

Sometimes, that becomes difficult, especially because Kelly’s father is Nelson Piquet, also a three-time F1 World Champion.

Every time Verstappen visits Brazil, he speaks to Nelson Piquet and topics related to motorsports come up invariably. However, per Mirror, the Red Bull driver feels that the 71-year-old has had enough racing-related conversations.

Understanding the need for the same, Verstappen, too, stays away from F1 while at home. Instead, he follows other sports and keeps up to date with them. Following other sports allows him to balance his appetite for racing in F1.

Hailing from Sao Paolo, hometown of the great Ayrton Senna, 19-year-old Gabriel Bortoleto is quickly becoming the one to look out for in the F1 world. He won the F3 title in 2023, which was his rookie season and is currently competing in F2. Bortoleto has turned a lot of heads in the paddock and has now caught the attention of three-time reigning world champion, Max Verstappen.

As seen in a video clip uploaded on X, the Dutchman praised Bortoleto, and revealed what he told him when the two of them met.

“He’s a great guy. He’s a very nice kid. And, yeah, if he keeps doing well then I do see there is the possibility for him, of course, to make it.”

Verstappen also pointed out that Bortoleto is from Brazil, which means there will be a lot of pressure on him. The country is desperate for a Championship caliber driver making waves on the world stage, and the promise Bortoleto is showing early on, makes him a potential candidate for the same.

This is also why Verstappen doesn’t want to put any additional pressure on him. He just hopes that the 19-year-old goes on to win the F2 title this year.

Verstappen, however, isn’t the only F1 champion to notice Bortoleto’s talents. In 2022, Fernando Alonso signed him up at A14 (his driver management company), and the young Brazilian finished P6 in the F4 championship. Alonso has been in constant touch with him, and he has been working hard to climb up the ranks.

Max Verstappen not the only one aware of Bortoleto’s talents

When he joined the F3 grid, Bortoleto was not a part of any driver academy belonging to F1 teams. However, McLaren’s Driver Development Director Emanuele Pirro noticed him quickly, and started conversations to bring him to Woking.

Once things became official, Bortoleto expressed his gratitude to the top people of McLaren. Bortoleto claimed that having the McLaren structure behind him is very important. He further explained how he can learn from the engineers and other drivers, which will help him grow.

Considering himself to be an aggressive driver, Bortoleto believes he can also be smart when the situation calls for it. The Brazilian added he is good at being adaptive to situations that arise in racing, which adds to his arsenal. Bortoleto also likes driving in wet conditions, similar to Max Verstappen which has already led to comparisons between the two drivers.

With Lewis Hamilton moving away from Mercedes in 2025, several sponsors are also set to bid adieu to the team. Tommy Hilfiger is one such brand, whose association with Hamilton and the Brackley-based outfit will come to an end. Ahead of the 2024 Chinese GP, Hilfiger and Hamilton came together, with the former showering Hamilton with immense praise.

With a $450 million net worth (per Celebrity Net Worth), Tommy Hilfiger has built a fashion empire most only dream about. A fashion icon himself, the 73-year-old was always an admirer of Hamilton’s clothing sense. Hilfiger said, “He is the most elegant human being on the red carpet,” and when Hamilton said he was second to him, the American designer replied,

“No. I couldn’t hold a candle to you.”

The conversation took place right before the GQ Night ‘The Twist Party’ in Shanghai. Hosted by Tommy Hilfiger, Hamilton made time out to attend the event. He was joined by fellow ambassadors Li Qin, Patty Hou, Victor Ma, Nova Heart, and Zhou Yiran, among other Chinese celebrities.

The partnership between Hamilton and Hilfiger started back in 2018, thanks to the latter’s initiatives. Meeting each other at fashion shows often, Hilfiger went to Hamilton and said that needed to do something together.

Hamilton didn’t pay much heed initially because he didn’t think Hilfiger meant it. However, when he approached a second time, the Mercedes driver started believing. He spoke to team principal Toto Wolff, and an iconic partnership between the two parties began.

Lewis Hamilton and Tommy Hilfiger’s iconic collaboration

At the dinner party in Shanghai, Hamilton and Hilfiger discussed the start of their collaboration, which began over six years ago. Both entities have varying tastes in fashion, which was widely on display throughout the event. While Hilfiger was all suited up, the Mercedes driver took a more casual approach. The seven-time world champion believes that fashion is mostly about putting something on and feeling comfortable and good while wearing it.

Hamilton also recalled the early days of their partnership, referring to it as entering an ‘internship.’ Having never gone to a fashion school, Hamilton took the opportunity to work with Hilfiger and his team as his chance to learn from some of the top names in the industry. Having earned valuable insights, the 39-year-old could expand his horizons in the fashion world and start expressing himself more freely.

Hamilton’s causal approach to the night was a result of the same. The streetwear-loving F1 driver opted to don a vintage basketball jersey and baggy Timberland jeans. Per him, not only was it the comfortable choice, but it was also a callback to the early 2000s when artists like (late) Aaliyah opted for a similar vibe.

Lance Stroll’s future in F1 has become a big topic of discussion, four rounds into the 2024 season. The Canadian refused to confirm his presence at Aston Martin for 2025 despite his father Lawrence Stroll owing the team. Amid this, his teammate Fernando Alonso highlighted the contributions made by him in helping Aston Martin progress.

During the Chinese GP weekend, when asked to confirm his future with the Silverstone-based outfit, Stroll said, “We’ll see what the future holds,” as per Sports Illustrated. Alonso, however, seems to want Stroll alongside him when he suits up for races in 2025.

Referring to how “sensitive” Stroll is behind the wheel of the car and can guide the development better, Alonso said, “To reach 100% of the potential of the car, sometimes I’m not able to do [that] without the help from my team-mate.”

Alonso is often regarded as the driving force behind Aston Martin’s recent success. However, the 42-year-old feels that when compared to his teammate, he hasn’t been much of a help to the engineers. He tends to drive around the problems of the car, which is where Stroll’s valuable input comes in.

Alonso’s revelation suggests that Stroll has been integral to Aston Martin since the iconic British outfit returned to F1 in 2021. In 2023, they made huge strides, with Alonso standing on the podium eight times. The Spanish driver’s comments prove that Stroll was instrumental in making that happen.

On the other hand, if Alonso is right about Stroll’s hard work, it is safe to say that he is reaping most of the rewards. Compared to Alonso’s podium tally in 2023, Stroll failed to finish in the top three even once.

Lance Stroll’s future with Aston Martin and Fernando Alonso

In 2023, Alonso was a near-regular contender for the podium places. 2024, however, has not been as kind to the Oviedo-born driver or his team.

Regardless, Alonso signed a multi-year deal with Aston Martin that will keep him at Silverstone until 2026 at the very least. This is huge, as he looks to get back to winning ways with Honda joining hands soon.

Stroll’s presence on the team, however, is not guaranteed. Lawrence Stroll, who owns the team, wants them to succeed and become world champions, as does Honda. For that, they need two drivers who can maximize their results week in and week out. Till now, Stroll hasn’t proved to be that driver.

The status quo of the team can be jeopardized by Stroll’s exit. If the Canadian does quit eventually, they have a few options they can bank on. Prime amongst them would be Carlos Sainz, who has reportedly signed a contract with Mercedes for at least 2025. If the latter is true, the could turn to V-CARB’s Yuki Tsunoda, who will be a valuable asset to Honda.

In his last year with Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton has had one of his worst starts to a season in his career. There hasn’t been a lot of improvement in terms of performances, even four races into the campaign. Still, Hamilton is optimistic about his chances at the 2024 Chinese GP.

The W15’s inherent characteristics that make it so weak, remain unchanged. However, Hamilton is hopeful that the lessons learned can help the team optimize the car, and maximize its performance at the Shanghai International Circuit.

Crediting hindsight and experience, Hamilton said (as reported by Junaid Samodien on X, “Nothing has changed about our car, it will be the same, but we understand it a little more. In the last grand prix, we made some improvements and we bring some of these lessons here.”

The Shanghai International Circuit has been re-surfaced ahead of F1’s return to China after five seasons. Tire-wear and aerodynamics will be essential for the race, which are two areas Mercedes has comprehensively struggled in so far this season. Hamilton’s optimism, as a result, may be unfounded.

The Brackley-based outfit hasn’t brought in any major upgrades either. Hence, their performance isn’t expected to be much better than it was in Suzuka two weeks ago, where Hamilton finished P7.

Moreover, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff explained that the W15 struggled to deal with the track temperatures during the Japanese GP. Conditions are not expected to be very different for the race in Shanghai, which is why Mercedes is likely to compete in the midfield again.

Grim reality overshadows Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes’ final season together

Currently, in terms of pure pace, the W15 seems to be the fifth-fastest car – and not consistently. From what was apparent at the Suzuka International Circuit, even its customer team Aston Martin has the legs on them.

Furthermore, Mercedes’ gap to the top three teams (Red Bull, Ferrari, and McLaren) is huge. Its main fight lies with Aston Martin, whom the Silver Arrows will aim to outperform at the Chinese GP.

An official announcement on when Mercedes plans to introduce upgrades on the W15 is not available as yet. However, given how fundamentally flawed its design philosophy has been since 2022, an upgrade package turning its fortunes around completely seems unlikely.
