Eddie Hearn says Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury is off

WBC world heavyweight champion Fury called off negotiations with Matchroom, Hearn and Joshua last week after a deadline he set.

Eddie Hearn has claimed that, as far as Matchroom Boxing are concerned, Tyson Fury’s potential fight with Anthony Joshua is off.

Last Monday, Fury claimed that his rival Joshua, and his team, needed to sign the contract by 5pm or a fight in December between the pair was off.

With that deadline, arbitrarily decided by the Gypsy King, having been missed, Fury claimed that the pair would not be fighting and he would move on.

The champion’s own promoter Frank Warren claimed that the fight was not off and that he could still negotiate with rival Hearn to get it on, for December 3rd.

However, now the Matchroom Boxing chief, Hearn, has claimed that as far as he is concerned the fight will not be going ahead, and claimed the contract problems didn’t go from their side.

“Rival promoter blames rival promoter for fight not happening, shock horror,” Hearn told the Matchroom YouTube channel when asked about Bob Arum claiming he didn’t want the fight.

“People surely aren’t thick enough to see Tyson Fury has called two deadlines on this fight and the fight has passed, in Tyson Fury’s deadlines.

“The Monday deadline, which came from nowhere, and we sent our final version of the contract back…we sent our final draft of the contract back to sign. Not we’re not getting back to anyone.

“…Then we get another one on Wednesday, ‘the fight is off unless you sign on Wednesday,’ I said ‘it’s impossible.’

“That deadline passed, I’ve not heard back from Frank Warren. So as far as we’re concerned the fight is off.”

Hearn did give some hope by saying that they would still be willing to discuss the fight, and added that he had nothing bad to say about Queensbury Promotions.

He once again reiterated that the problems lay with the deadline and the fact they had been told multiple times that they’d missed the deadline, as had the whole world.

Fury had previously suggested that he would be fighting former WBA (Regular) champion Mahmoud Charr if the mega fight with AJ couldn’t take place.

When the undefeated 34-year-old initially rolled back on the deadline, and gave hope to the AJ fight, Charr then accused his would be opponent of ducking him.

And it seems that even if it’s not Joshua, then Fury won’t be fighting Charr, with Hearn adding that they’ve since received an offer for Dereck Chisora to face the WBC champion.

It will be the third time that the two men have fought each other, with Fury having beaten him in 12 rounds in 2011 and stopped him in 10th round three years later.

Fury has the December 3rd locked-in, but it won’t be AJ he’ll be facing.

Exclusive: Eddie Hearn admits Anthony Joshua 'took the bait' with Tyson Fury's 'goading'

Eddie Hearn has seemingly questioned Tyson Fury’s intentions to actually fighting, claiming he ‘goaded’ Anthony Joshua by ‘putting the rod out there’ with his relentless social media call-outs.

Unfortunately for AJ, as well as the rest of us, Hearn admits his he and his client ‘took the bait’.

The highly-respected boxing promoter has been in the thick of negotiations in attempting to make perhaps the biggest fight in British boxing history happen.

There’s not a man alive that doesn’t want to see AJ and Fury go toe-to-toe under the bright lights, but as we’ve all come to know, getting both men to sign on the dotted line has proved a tricky task.

Despite swirling rumours that the two rivals would finally lock horns inside the ring come December time, AJ’s promoter Hearn – by his own admission – has unfortunately had to dispel those claims.

“I’m not so sure that fight will happen in December, in all honesty,” Hearn told SPORTbible Australia.

“Look, I do think AJ vs Fury will happen. I just think it’s too big.

“They’re two guys that are still fresh, they’re definitely not on the back end of their careers so hopefully we get that made.”

Simply by scrolling through social media, you can see that AJ has remained rather coy during the whole situation, letting his management deal with the tense negotiations.

The same can’t be said for Tyson Fury with the heavyweight world champion not shying away from calling out Joshua online and giving him and his team tight deadlines to meet.

But Hearn wasn’t sold on Fury’s apparent eagerness to scrap, admitting the Gypsy King’s team were, in fact, quite surprised when AJ answered the call-out and that they were simply ‘goading’ him by setting ridiculous deadlines.

Now that those talks have seemingly broken down, the man himself has shed some light on what really unfolded.

‼️ Tyson Fury says Anthony Joshua negotiations are actually still ongoing for them to fight on Dec 3rd and calls on AJ to sign the contract TODAY… [🎥 @Tyson_Fury]

“He called AJ out on Instagram [after the Oleksandr Usyk] defeat. I kind of felt like he was goading him and putting the rod out there and AJ just took the bait,” Hearn said.

“AJ said ‘I’m coming off a loss, a few niggles here and there but I may never fight Tyson Fury again, let’s do it’. I think they [Tyson’s team] were a little bit surprised by this.

“We waited a long time for the contract, which was all over the place. We ended up going back on the contract and Tyson Fury came out publicly and gave us 48 hours to sign it – which was impossible. We went back to his promoters who were saying ‘let me try and calm him down a bit’, but then he came out again and was saying ‘I’ll give you one more day, last chance, that is it’.

“Obviously we still weren’t in a position to sign so he came out and said ‘that’s it’. Then he goes back on the propaganda machine and says ‘well, AJ didn’t want it’. Well, hang on, we’ve spent two weeks working with your promoters on this, you set the deadlines that were actually unrealistic.”

    Alamy

There’s no doubting that Tyson Fury is one of the most likeable characters in the sport.

Not only does his talent inside the ring speak for itself, but his backstory of breaking free from the grips of depression and shedding huge amounts of weight to complete a biblical comeback is nothing short of remarkable.

But since his constant back-flipping on retirement, Hearn has noticed a slight change in the public’s perception of the ‘Gypsy King’.

“I have seen the feeling [towards Fury] change a little bit,” he said.

“I’ve always said in boxing, if in doubt blame Eddie. But I feel that looking at some of the comments [online] people aren’t so sure about him anymore. They love him, great fighter, but when he’s calling out AJ, saying he’s going to fight Manuel Charr, saying he’s going to fight two people in one night, then he’s retired, then he doesn’t care about the money, then the purse must be $500 million – he’s a bit up and down but he is great for the sport.”

Hearn added: “I just think he wakes up with a different idea everyday.

“Maybe he wanted to fight AJ, maybe he just wanted to wind him up. You can never really anticipate what he’s about to do.

Our teams were really working well, like, that process [negotiations] was actually going very well. And then you’re giving Joshua deadlines before calling him out and calling him a dosser because he’s then missed those deadlines.

“We let the first one slide, but then when he did it two days later, AJ’s training thinking ‘this guy’s not even serious’. It’s difficult because some people don’t see that and others think it’s mine or AJ’s fault.”

Lewis Hamilton will meet his ‘biggest challenge’ in Charles Leclerc at Ferrari, David Coulthard warns, as he insists the Brit’s new team-mate is ‘brilliantly fast’ and a ‘champion in the making’

Outperforming Charles Leclerc will be Lewis Hamilton‘s toughest challenge at Ferrari, Formula One legend David Coulthard has warned.

Mercedes driver Hamilton stunned the sport earlier this month by agreeing a bombshell £40million move to Ferrari from 2025, calling an end to his 13-year stay with the Silver Arrows.

Despite once claiming he would see out his career at Mercedes and even remain a brand ambassador there for the rest of his life, Hamilton made use of an exit clause on the second year of his new two-year deal to join the sport’s most famous team on a multi-year contract.

Carlos Sainz confirmed he will make way for Hamilton at the end of next season, with Leclerc set to partner the seven-time world champion at the Scuderia.

Coulthard believes Leclerc will represent the Brit’s ‘biggest challenge’ when he arrives at the Ferrari paddock, as he backs the 26-year-old driver to become a future world champion.

Hamilton shocked the sport with a bombshell £40m move from Mercedes to Ferrari from 2025

Admitting his shock at Hamilton’s switch, he told Planet F1: ‘I just never imagined he would effectively – even on good terms – break that winning relationship that’s been going since he was 12 years old with Mercedes.

‘But that said, I think it’s very exciting for Formula 1. It will give a huge impetus to Ferrari when it comes to bringing [in] engineers and people really understand that they’re getting an unbelievable driver.

‘I have to say, I think he will find one of his biggest challenges in Charles Leclerc.

‘Charles is a young, brilliantly fast race driver. Yes, he doesn’t have the World Championships and experience of Lewis, but I think he’s a Champion in waiting, so that may well be where Lewis faces his greatest challenge.

‘I think Charles is one of the quickest single-lap drivers out there.’

Hamilton has been uncharacteristically out of the championship picture for the last two seasons, with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen dominating the Formula One circuit.

The Dutchman claimed his third consecutive world title in October, establishing himself as one of the greats in the sport’s history.

Although Hamilton will be eager to topple Red Bull’s dominance at Mercedes, Martin Brundle agreed that team-mate Leclerc could end up the 39-year-old veteran’s greatest rival in terms of pace.

He told Sky Sports: ‘Leclerc I think is potentially, on an outright qualifying lap, the fastest driver out there at the moment, even including Max Verstappen.

‘He’s blindingly fast, tends to run into a few things he didn’t ought to from time to time and fly off the road, Charles, because he just drives so near the limit.’

And he even left off the former Olympic gold medallist from his boxing ‘Mount Rushmore’.

Mayweather retired in 2017 following his win against Conor McGregor with a record of 50-0 – winning 15 world titles across five weight divisions.

Speaking to Club Shay Shay about boxing’s legendary fighters, he said: “Out of all these guys in the history of boxing, I have accomplished more than every fighter in the history of boxing.

“How many world champions have Rocky Marciano beat? So we already know, I beat more champions that’s going in the hall of fame.”

Mayweather then turned his attention to Ali, where he insisted he cannot be No1 as he lost to an inexperienced Leon Spinks, while also commenting on his trilogy against Ken Norton.

Despite beating Norton twice after losing in their first meeting, Mayweather believes Ali got two fortunate decision victories.

He added: “Is Ali the same fighter that got beat by a fighter with seven fights? Leon Spinks beat Muhammad Ali when he only had seven fights.

“What’s the heavyweight guy that Ali fought three times, Ken Norton? Ken Norton really beat Ali three times, go back and look at the fights.”

Logan Paul Reckons He Could Easily Beat Mike Tyson In A Boxing Match

Logan Paul genuinely thinks he could beat boxing royalty Mike Tyson if the two were to face off inside the ring.

The YouTuber is fresh off the back of his record-breaking bout against boxing great Floyd Mayweather, a spectacle that turned over an insane amount of money and did a million pay-per-view buys.

Granted, no winner was officially declared on the night, but Logan clearly gained a lot of confidence from surviving all eight rounds against 44-year-old Mayweather.

And his belief is so sky high that he now wants a piece of arguably the scariest boxer to ever walk the face of the earth.

“Someone mentioned Mike Tyson, like how funny is it? One great at a time. Or is it like you can only fight one?” Logan said on his Impaulsive podcast.

“My lawyer mentioned it and he was like, ‘No, Tyson will rip your head off, you don’t stand a chance’.

“I’m like ‘bro, I literally just went through all of this, you can’t tell me I can’t beat Mike Tyson’. Bro, he’s old, old.”

Former multiple-time heavyweight world champion Tyson only recently made his long-awaited boxing comeback.

Iron Mike’s second coming was against fellow legend Roy Jones Jr in December 2020 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The exhibition bout ended as a draw, but 54-year-old Tyson left the arena in search of more blood after an impressive performance where us fans saw glimpses of his younger self.

Speaking after his return tale, he even admitted he was ready to do battle again as early as 2021.

Well, now could be his chance – and you can probably imagine he’ll make light work of a far-smaller YouTuber by the name of Logan.

Logan Paul Says He Would 'F***ing Beat' Mike Tyson In A Boxing Match

It appears Logan and Iron Mike are pretty close pals too, so getting a fight signed, sealed and delivered shouldn’t be too much hassle in the eyes of the promoters.

I mean, if both of them want it to happen then surely it’s doable – right?

After initially predicting that Mayweather would knock Logan out in their bout, Tyson FaceTimed his friend to admit he was wrong before sending his congratulations.

“You kicked his ass. You’re bad, I was wrong,” Tyson told Logan.

“I’m proud of you, you kicked ass, I’m proud of you. Everybody’s talking about you, you’re the man.

“You went eight rounds with the greatest of all time, I was telling people they don’t want to try that s**t. You got him with those punches.”

Mike Tyson names boxing match that 'gave him chills' as warning sent to Jake Paul

Mike Tyson has sent an ominous warning to Jake Paul while naming one fight which gave him “chills” as a spectator.

Tyson, 57, is currently preparing to face Paul, 27, in a shock comeback fight later this year.

The pair will meet on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The fight has divided opinion among fans, with some delighted to see Tyson make his return to professional boxing, and others questioning the safety of the bout.

Tyson has hit back at his critics, claiming they are merely “jealous” of him and Paul.

He told Reuters (via The Mirror): “I’m 58 and what? I’m getting billions of views from just talking to somebody about fighting. Everybody, even most of the athletes, they’re jealous, that’s whack.

“I say in your prime you couldn’t draw a million people, man. What are you talking, you couldn’t sell out arena. Who at 58 could sell out an 80,000-seat arena?

“Why you think he wants to fight me and not anybody else? Everybody wants to fight him, all the boxers want to fight him. But if he fought them the only people that will come are the people that like him.

“The other guys, their parents might not even come watch them. That’s just keeping it real. They’re too boring for their children to watch, it’s like watching grass grow.”

Despite aiming that dig at current boxers, Tyson has expressed his admiration for two heavyweights of the modern era.

Taking to Snapchat, Tyson posted an image of Tyson Fury’s controversial points win over Francis Ngannou from October alongside the caption: “Watching this give me chills. So many memories.

“The ring was not just a battle ground but also a stage where I could showcase my indomitable spirit, resilience and determination.”

Tyson will hope to display all those three traits in full when he faces Paul later this summer.

It is yet to be confirmed if the fight will be fully professional, a non-judged fight with pro rules or an exhibition bout.

Nevertheless, the bookies have installed Paul as an early favourite to win, should the fight be judged.

The ‘Problem Child’ is currently 5/6 favourite to win the fight, with Tyson the slight underdog at 6/4 according to odds provided by OddsChecker.

‘Not just of where I am as a woman, but of how far my fashion and beauty brands have come.’
