Mike Tyson may be avoiding a lucrative trilogy boxing match, his old rival Evander Holyfield hinted

Mike Tyson may be avoiding a lucrative trilogy boxing match, his old rival Evander Holyfield hinted on the Boxing Scene website this week.

“Tyson … where you at?” Holyfield said.

The two former heavyweight champions fought twice in the late 1990s. Holyfield won the first via 11th round knockout ahead of a third-round victory in the immediate rematch when Tyson was disqualified for biting.

Talk of a third bout has escalated because of the rising popularity of showbiz boxing — a separate entity to professional boxing.

The best-selling boxing pay-per-view in 2020 was the Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. sideshow in November.

At the post-event press conference, Tyson told reporters that he smoked marijuana before the fight and enjoyed it so much he wants to do it all again.

This pointed toward an anticipated showdown involving 58-year-old Holyfield, who has said he’s desperate to get his hands on the 54-year-old again.

“[I’m] waiting on my dance partner now, Mike Tyson, to show up. Where you at?” said Holyfield.

“My side tried to make the fight happen, and we got nothing but excuses. Now I can see why he wanted a tune-up fight before thinking about fighting me.

“Roy Jones was a good local opponent for Mike, but a fight with me would be a global event, and the only fight that anyone wants to see is a fight between us.”

Holyfield believes a trilogy bout with Tyson would generate $100 million.

“The fight would be big because so many people want the fight,” he told Brian Custer on The Last Stand podcast in February.

Showbiz boxing returns April 17 with a crossover match that pairs the YouTube celebrity Jake Paul against the former MMA champion Ben Askren.

The UFC star Leon Edwards, who headlines the UFC Fight Night 187 event Saturday when he fights Belal Muhammad, recently said it would be a humiliating but hilarious day if Paul batters Askren.

Anthony Joshua issues X-rated response to ‘disrespectful’ Tyson Fury after he called him and Francis Ngannou ‘two sausages’ before their heavyweight bout

Anthony Joshua has sent an X-rated response to Tyson Fury after his second round knockout victory over Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia on Friday.

Knocking Ngannou down in the first round for the first time in his career, AJ proceeded to put the former UFC champion onto the canvas another two times in the second round.

His third knockdown was enough to stop Ngannou from getting back up as Joshua claimed a fourth consecutive victory in the ring.

Fury was spotted in the crowd applauding AJ’s brutal knockout, but Joshua has refused to talk about his foe.

Speaking to IFL TV, Joshua was asked about Fury’s reaction to his knockout and simply replied: ‘F*** Tyson Fury.’

When asked to expand on the reason for his hostile reply, Joshua said: ‘You know what it is? I don’t like trash talking people but I heard him say something like “I’m here to do commentary about these two sausages”.

‘That guy that I fought (Ngannou), that he fought, is an ex-UFC heavyweight champion. A phenomonal story. Someone who changed his life around.

‘It’s too disrespectful. Forget anything about him.’

It remains to be seen as what is next for AJ, but a fight against Fury is on the cards.

The heavyweight champion faces Oleksandr Usyk next, with the winner of the bought likely to take on Joshua.

Speaking after Joshua’s victory, Fury confirmed he would be interested in an all-British bout.

‘I had a s*** performance against Ngannou. AJ did absolutely fantastic and lit him up with a right hand,’ he said on Friday night.

‘If he fights me after I beat Usyk twice then it will be a different game.’

  • “Who Did He Beat Again?”: Despite Holding Unbreakable Record for 36 Years and Avenging Muhammad Ali’s Loss, Mike Tyson Being Mentioned by Roy Jones Jr. in His Top 4 List Doesn’t Sit Well With Fans

“Who Did He Beat Again?”: Despite Holding Unbreakable Record for 36 Years and Avenging Muhammad Ali’s Loss, Mike Tyson Being Mentioned by Roy Jones Jr. in His Top 4 List Doesn’t Sit Well With Fans

Eighteen knockouts in a debut year. Thirty-six years later, still unbroken. Mike Tyson, is a name that resonates with unparalleled prowess in boxing’s history. Roy Jones Jr., another boxing stalwart, recently revealed his all-time top four. Ali. Robinson. Duran. Tyson. An eclectic mix, some might say. Most would nod in agreement with three on the list. But Tyson? Despite avenging Ali’s loss and holding a record untouched for over three decades, his inclusion raises eyebrows.

Is it the ferocity of his punches? Or the shadow of controversies that trailed him outside the ring? Maybe it’s the era of competition he faced. In a sport revered for its technique, stamina, and strategy, personal choices can also ignite public debates. This list by Jones Jr. promises to do just that.

Why fans agree with Roy Jones Jr. on Ali, Robinson, and Duran

Diving straight into the crux, Roy Jones Jr. delineated his top four boxers for the world to behold. His ensemble read: Muhammad Ali, the charismatic powerhouse; Sugar Ray Robinson, the embodiment of technique and finesse; Roberto Duran, with his relentless aggression; and Mike Tyson, the very epitome of raw power.

Now, the first three inclusions were, by and large, met with collective nods of agreement. Each of them has etched their name into the annals of boxing history with undisputed legacies. Yet, it was the mention of Mike Tyson that seemed to stir the pot.

A user weighed in first, asserting, “The first 3 he was spot on I can live with that.” The undertone here seemed to be that while the initial trio was beyond reproach, Tyson’s placement was up for debate. Giving a different spin, another user opined, “Those are the fighters he was inspired by.” This perspective suggests that Jones Jr. might have created the list based on who inspired him and not the boxers’ accolades.

    🥊 1. Muhammad Ali
    🥊 2. Sugar Ray Robinson
    🥊 3. Roberto Duran
    🥊 4. Mike Tyson

However, another person’s stark query cut through, “Mike Tyson!!! Who did he beat again?” Their comment alluded to a lingering sentiment among some fans, questioning the quality of opponents Tyson faced during his heyday.
Another fan, contributing to the dialogue, remarked, “Good list. So many greats. I’d say Jack Johnson over Tyson. He probably would too.” Their stance introduced another boxing legend into the mix, hinting that perhaps Tyson’s inclusion was more contentious than initially perceived.Another keen observer’s comment encapsulated the broader sentiment, saying, “Was all going so well until he mentioned Tyson.” It was evident that while Jones Jr.’s list began on a universally agreeable note, Tyson’s mention ruffled a few feathers.class=”jsx-1883686743″>
class=”jsx-2407895623″>The world of boxing, rich in history and filled with legends, offers ample room for varied opinions. While Ali, Robinson, and Duran found nearly universal acclaim, Tyson’s inclusion brought to the fore a mélange of sentiments, from respect for his undeniable prowess to questions about his legacy.

F1 star axed from Australian GP in ‘hardest moment I can remember’ as fans slam ’embarrassing’ decision after huge crash

WILLIAMS have sacrificed Logan Sargeant by dumping him OUT of the Australian GP after his teammate Alex Albon smashed up his own F1 car.

Ruthless bosses saw the London-born Thai racer have a high speed accident during practice in Melbourne.

The impact with the barriers saw his Willliams smashed to pieces but without enough spare parts to repair the car overnight, they decided to retire his chassis from the race.

But in a big kick in the balls they decided to put the former Red Bull driver in Sargeant’s car instead, meaning the American will not get to drive.

The move casts doubt on Sargeant’s future in the team and was understandably left furious with the team.

The team released a press release with Sargeant quoted, although his mood is considered to be less sanguine.

It said: “This is the hardest moment I can remember in my career and it’s absolutely not easy.

“I am however completely here for the team and will continue to contribute in any way that I can this weekend to maximise what we can do.”

The statement confirmed the broken chassis will be flown back to their Grove HQ to be repaired.

Williams team boss James Vowles has been left red-faced by the team’s failure to have enough spares to fix Albon’s car.

And he paid tribute to Sargeant, calling him a “true team player” – words that will only grate with the American who is already fighting for his future.

Vowles said: “We are hugely disappointed that the damage sustained to the chassis has meant we need to withdraw it from the weekend.

F1 stars arrive at Australian Grand Prix in style as Oscar Piastri rocks up in £400,000 outfit
“It’s unacceptable in modern day F1 not to have a spare chassis, but it is a reflection of how behind we were in the winter period and an illustration of why we need to go through significant change in order to get ourselves in a better position for the future.

“As a result, we have had some very difficult decisions to make this afternoon.

“While Logan should not have to suffer from a mistake that he did not make, every race counts when the midfield is tighter than ever, so we have made the call based on our best potential to score points this weekend.

“This decision was not made lightly, and we cannot thank Logan enough for his graceful acceptance, demonstrating his dedication to the team; he is a true team player.

“This will prove a tough weekend for Williams, and this situation is not one that we will put ourselves in again.”

F1 fans have slammed the team’s decision to withdraw Sargeant from the race, with one person taking to X to write: “Embarrassing. I wouldn’t be shocked if this decision prevents certain drivers from joining the team in the foreseeable future — especially other teams putting young talent in the car. Lost a lot of respect for Vowles with this one.”

Another agreed, adding: “Have some shame, this is beyond embarrassing and unfair. Great way to damage someone’s confidence further when he was already struggling with it.”

A third commented: “Disgusting behaviour. I can’t see how the slight gain in race pace is worth the loss in team morale.”

While a fourth wrote: “Totally unfair at the beginning of the season with both drivers on 0 points. Logan is being punished for Alex crashing the car.”

Meanwhile, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff admits the team stuffed up again after Lewis Hamilton was the second slowest during second practice.

Mercedes appear clueless as they attempt to try and make up for their lack of speed.

Wolff said: “In the second session [we’ve] gone through a really quite dramatic set-up change on Lewis’ [car] and that has massively backfired.

Hamilton, who is quitting the team for Ferrari, has not won a race since the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in 2021.

With several seats open for the 2025 season, new developments around the driver market emerge almost daily. The latest of these developments has to do with Pierre Gasly and Alpine, which could play a spoilsport to Mercedes’ plans. According to Sky Sports F1 commentator David Croft, Gasly has started negotiating with Williams over a possible move to the team next season.

Quoted by Crash.net, Croft took the time to assess how the driver lineups could shape up in the upcoming season. Claiming both Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly might look to leave Alpine, Croft said he believes Gasly is already in conversation with Williams over a potential pairing with Alex Albon.

“[Pierre] Gasly might find himself at Williams. I am sure he’s been in negotiations with Williams to drive alongside Alex Albon.”

Should Gasly complete his move to the British team, Mercedes could face a huge problem. With Williams being a significant customer team to Mercedes, the initial plan for the latter was to bring its Italian racing prodigy, Kimi Antonelli up to F1 via the Grove-based outfit. One year later, Mercedes would bring Antonelli up and have him drive for them.

However, if Croft’s claim turns into reality, Mercedes could face a major setback. With Antonelli still being 17, he doesn’t have the necessary experience to hold a driving seat in other F1 teams. Williams, on paper would be the perfect stepping stone for him.

Mercedes hoping for things to play out their way

Mercedes would be keeping its fingers crossed, hoping for things to pan out the way they intended them to. Per veteran journalist Joe Saward, Mercedes wants Williams to take Antonelli on an 18-month ‘loan’, given the British team is on the market searching for drivers.

Mercedes too, is searching for drivers since Lewis Hamilton is leaving in 2025 to join Ferrari. However, Toto Wolff feels that promoting Antonelli to the main Mercedes seat so quickly could hamper his development. Hence, the Austrian boss wants him to get experience before looking to make waves in F1 with the the Silver Arrows in the future.

However, the Italian prodigy isn’t old enough to register himself in F1 yet. He cannot get a super license until he is 18, and that won’t happen until August 25th, later this year. Hence, Saward speculates Williams (or Mercedes) could ask the FIA for special permission given Max Verstappen was also a 17-year-old when he joined the grid.

Meanwhile, Mercedes continues to run Antonelli through the mill via various testing events. The Brackley-based outfit had him get some laps in the 2021 W12, noting the young one’s numbers. Furthermore, they also have plans to have him drive the 2022 W13 and give him a taste of driving the latest-era cars.

The four-time world champion wanted to call it quits on his career at Aston Martin to spend more time with his family.

But fast forward to today, the German superstar is still open to getting back on the track.

When his career ended Vettel said that “You should never say never” to a comeback.

And recently the ex-Ferrari driver has been linked to a cockpit return for the 2025 season.

After Hamilton announced in February he would be leaving the Silver Arrows at the end of the year for Ferrari there was speculation Vettel would replace him.

But Vettel has confirmed he does not intend to join Mercedes.

Vettel told BILD: “I’m still interested and follow the races. There’s a lot going on at the moment – on and off the track.

“But for me, Formula 1 is not an issue at the moment.

“When I left the sport at the time, I said that you never know if you might make a comeback.

“But the intention wasn’t for me to stop and then start again.”

On Monday Vettel was spotted behind the wheel again as he took part in a test for Porsche’s endurance team in Aragon, Spain.

He continued: “It was quite funny. I was just curious to see how such a car works and it was exciting to see.

“Of course, it was a bit of an adjustment to a Formula 1 car and after a year and a half I was maybe a little rusty.”

But for now Vettel will remain retired until the right opportunity comes calling for him.

CHRISTIAN Horner’s sexting scandal will be covered in the next season of the hit Netflix show Drive to Survive.

It will potentially reopen wounds for Horner and his wife Spice Girls star Geri Halliwell as they attempt to move on from the drama.

Horner has previously raged against the scrutiny over the scandal – but now it will be the focus of the Netflix show watched by millions.

Brit filmmaker Gay-Rees revealed he has spoken to the Red Bull chief since the scandal broke before the start of the F1 season.

He claims the 50-year-old ex-racing driver told him: “This is all your fault.”

Horner appears to have been referencing the new focus Drive to Survive has put on F1 – especially drama and scandal behind the scenes of the Grand Prix circus.

Speaking of the scandal, Mr Gay-Rees said: “It will have to be referenced in some capacity, yeah.”

“And they will all want it to be told in a particular way, so it’s about treading that line to keep everybody happy, and to keep Netflix happy, and us – so we can sleep at night with the decisions we’ve made,” he told The Telegraph.

Horner was cleared of misconduct by a Red Bull investigation back in February.

But the scandal was taken to a new level when sexually suggestive texts appearing to be sent by Horner were leaked.

Horner’s accuser – a female colleague – has since been suspended by Red Bull and has appealed the decision.
‘We’re always grateful’, says Christian Horner as he hails wife Geri Halliwell in Mother’s Day post amid sexting scandal
And she reportedly plans to take her case to an employment tribunal as she wants to return to work for the championship-winning team.

Mr Gay-Rees said: “You have to have balance. I think Horner is looking ok for the time being, but it doesn’t feel like it’s done yet.

“It will all depend on how it plays out.”

‘I don’t know what he got up to – and I genuinely don’t have an opinion on it, but he’s been through it and you wouldn’t wish that on anybody.”

Horner’s accuser is reportedly “in it for the long haul” as she continues to fight against the decision to clear her boss, reports The Independent.

A source said: “She remains resolute and is in it for the long haul.

“She’s holding her council for now and wants the matter dealt with privately.”

Horner has always denied any wrongdoing over the allegations and blasted the infamous text leak as “anonymous speculation”.

He has demanded an end to the drama which he described as a “very trying period” for his family.

His wife Geri has stood by him – appearing at his side at the races in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, both won by Red Bull.

Red Bull are first in both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships after a dominant start to the season.

Horner’s star driver Max Verstappen will be looking for his fourth world championship in a row – and won the first two races.

He was only undone in Australia when his brakes caught fire after he lost first place to Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz.

Verstappen however remains the hot favourite for the title.

And the Dutchman, 26, has been one of the most vocal critics of Drive to Survive.

He had previously boycotted the show, refusing any interviews – claiming it had faked storylines and made the drama “over the top”.

Speaking earlier this year, he said: “You don’t see a lot of me on Drive to Survive, which is why I don’t like doing it.

“You probably don’t get the right side of me because it is just an interview, I am just sitting down in a dark room and I hate that.

“They put a mic in front of you and you have to talk about the season which… just have a casual interaction, have fun.”

He added: “Also, some things are just private, right? People don’t need to know what we are doing and what we are saying.”

Hamilton had a healthy lead but a safety car was called after Nicholas Latifi crashed with five laps to go.

Controversially, race director Michael Masi allowed the likes of Max Verstappen to overtake lapped cars separating him from Hamilton.

With Verstappen on soft tyres, he was able to easily overtake Hamilton on the final lap of the race.

Speaking to GQ, he said that it was the day in his life that “hurt him the most” and that the only consolation was that he had his father there for support.

The Brit ace said: “Was I robbed? Obviously.

“I mean, you know the story. But I think what was really beautiful in that moment, which I take away from it, was my dad was with me.

“And we’d gone through this huge roller coaster of life together, ups and downs.

“And the day that it hurt the most, he was there, and the way he raised me was to always stand up, keep your head high.

Following a dismal start to his rookie season with AlphaTauri, Nyck de Vries saw the Faenza-based outfit replace him with Daniel Ricciardo after just 10 races. De Vries switched to Formula E soon and what was initially thought to be a heartbreak has turned out to be the right move for him. In just two words, De Vries describes why he is happier.

De Vries is currently contracted with two teams- Toyota in the World Endurance Championship and Mahindra Racing in Formula E. In an interview on Lissie Mackintosh’s YouTube channel, De Vries took a sly dig at his former employers by saying:

“I’m with two great teams, very nice environments. I feel really um I would say supported and appreciated within those teams.”

Red Bull and its sister team letting go of De Vries after just 10 races surprised many. He didn’t even get half a season to prove his worth and controversy regarding Daniel Ricciardo’s appointment erupted. Red Bull, however, had its reasons behind letting the 29-year-old go.

De Vries didn’t score any points in his 10 races with the team. His best finish was P12 in Monaco and mistakes on the track didn’t put his mind at ease, especially with figures like Helmut Marko publicly criticizing him. De Vries is in a much better place right now and is proving that a racing driver can be happy and feel fulfilled without being in F1.

Consistent mistakes and a lack of positives in the driving department meant Red Bull had had enough of the Dutch rookie. But that didn’t stop him from continuing to chase his passion. Now, De Vries is back in the series that made him a World Champion in the first place.

AlphaTauri axing was just a small hiccup for Nyck de Vries

Later in the interview, De Vries spoke about how he didn’t give up on his dreams despite suffering a major setback with his AlphaTauri sacking. He decided to help other drivers out and shared his experience with younger talents in the junior Formulas. Just a week after what was arguably a gut-wrenching moment, the Dutchman started enjoying racing again.

In July of 2023, De Vries flew to London to watch the Formula E season finale. He got a chance to revisit the paddock where he became World Champion 2021 and decided to reignite that passion.

De Vries met Fred Bertrand, CEO of Mahindra Racing. They spoke about a potential partnership, exchanged contacts and stayed in touch in the coming months. Soon, De Vries officially became a driver for Mahindra Racing and is living the high-life in the world of motorsports.

At the start of the year, Ferrari announced that Lewis Hamilton would replace Carlos Sainz from the 2025 season onwards. For Sainz, performing well in 2024 was and remains a priority as he looks to continue racing for a top team. In need of inspiration, Sainz turned to Rafael Nadal, one of Spain’s most decorated athletes.

Sainz recently appeared in a cover story for SportWeek, per Gazzetta dello Sport. There, the Madrid-born driver hailed Nadal and the influence he has on him. He said,

“Rafa Nadal, I like him for his competitive spirit and for the respect with which he does things.”

SportWeek posted a teaser of the upcoming issue of the magazine, which is due to be released on 27th April 2024. His comments on Nadal were a part of the Instagram post put up by the magazine.

Sainz’s inspiration being Nadal, however, won’t be a surprise. The 22-time Grand Slam Champion is arguably Spain’s most famous athlete and has overcome several odds and multiple injuries to keep fighting on the court at the age of 37.

Sainz has never been under more pressure himself. He approached this season knowing that he doesn’t have a confirmed seat for 2025. But so far, the Madrid-born driver has performed spectacularly. With two podium finishes and a win in four races, Sainz is doing everything to impress the top teams for a seat in 2025.

    Carlos Sainz’s probable destination

Sainz has been linked to several teams since his impending departure from Ferrari became official. One of the teams that had the strongest links was Audi. Per multiple sources, Audi offered Sainz a lucrative deal which Red Bull boss Helmut Marko feels they cannot match.

Sainz was a topic of interest for Marko because he remains a candidate for the Red Bull seat next season. For that, Sergio Perez has to underperform but thankfully for the Mexican, the signs are positive as he continues to do what Red Bull asks of him.

Aston Martin was another probable destination for the Madrid-born driver. But after Fernando Alonso’s contract extension, that door appears to be closed since Lance Stroll’s exit isn’t likely because his father Lawrence owns the team.

Mercedes meanwhile, continues to be interested in landing Sainz. The Brackley-based outfit is on a hunt to find Lewis Hamilton’s replacement. Sainz could be headed to the Silver Arrows in what could be a straight swap.
