Ilia Topuria ‘is not coming off great’ by ‘batting away’ challengers to his UFC featherweight title, claims Daniel Cormier… with Spanish star yet to agree next move

Ilia Topuria’s star had never soared as high as it did when he knocked out Alexander Volkanovski to become UFC featherweight champion.

He was Spanish royalty in MMA but the last couple of months has seen him handle the next step questionably.

Topuria’s next move is not yet known and he appears to have lost momentum in the public eye. He insisted the BMF belt should be on the line if he is to agree to fight Max Holloway and appears to be reluctant to make his next move.

It is a point Daniel Cormier, former two weight champion now commentator, has picked up on.

‘I think Ilia Topuria needs to come right out and say, “Hey, I want Max Holloway on this date,” Cormier explained on his YouTube channel.

‘Then it would be on Max. Because now, Max is the guy — and sure he has the ‘BMF’ title — but he wants the featherweight championship. Ilia has that. When Ilia says, “I want this fight on this date,” Max will have to say, ‘OK,’ or he will say no and they will move on.

“And then Ilia Topuria, at that point, can then start to go, “I don’t want to fight him. He had his chance, he could’ve did it then, he didn’t want to play by the rules.”

‘He has to make a statement saying, “This is what I want as the champ,” and then put the ball in Max’s court to deny it. But right now, it’s not coming off great, because he’s batting away all of these guys with no clear idea of who else there is.’

Cormier went on to add: ‘Ilia Topuria is the champ, and as the champ, at times, you have some say into who you’re going to fight, when you’re going to fight him, when you’re ready, and all of that. I don’t know, though, if he has as much say in this as he thinks he does.

‘Max Holloway to me is clearly the guy, [but] if not, [it’s] Alexander Volkanovski. Max told me that. Him and I spoke personally, and he goes, “I thought Volk was going to get a rematch. How in the world does he not get a rematch?” This is coming from the guy that’s waiting for the title fight.

‘But he recognizes, “Look, man, this dude beat me three times, long reigning champion, if anyone deserves an immediate rematch, it’s this guy.”‘

A fight with Holloway would be a blockbuster, as would a rematch against Volkanovski, though the Australian’s stock has been damaged by three defeats in a row, albeit two against Islam Makhachev up a weight class.

Topuria recently responded to Holloway with a lengthy message on X, writing: ‘The only thing questionable about me is whether I finish you by KO or submission.

Holloway recently knocked out Justin Gaethje to win the BMF belt at UFC 300

‘I just beat the guy that beat you not once, not twice, but three times. You now have the one thing that keeps you relevant and that would grant you a money fight, the BMF belt. I no longer fight for money but for legacy.

‘Winning that belt while holding my title will cement me as the first. The first to hold both belts. The first to knock out Volk and what most certainly will happen when we fight, the first one to put you to sleep. Something to calm you down is this: God doesn’t shame anyone.

‘You will have a worthy defeat against a champion who will be remembered for eternity. I decide who, when, and where. If you don’t like the terms I’m sure Ortega will oblige.’

And ‘Blessed’ responded to Jim Rome: ‘That’s not a very ‘BMF’ way to say it. A ‘BMF’ wouldn’t say, ‘I’m not going to fight this guy unless…’ That’s kind of un-‘BMF.’ Doesn’t sound ‘BMF’ the way he’s trying to demand it and saying, ‘I’m not going to fight.’

‘A ‘BMF’ fights whatever, fights whoever, whenever, any weight, any time, and that’s not a tone of a ‘BMF.’

Holloway may need some recovery time from his incredible win over Justin Gaethje at UFC 300, but the fan favourite would no doubt leap at the chance to win his old belt back and a showdown in Spain later this year would be a massive event.

WWE respond to Hollywood report trashing The Rock’s on-set behaviour, claiming he has urinated in water bottles, kept co-stars waiting for up to EIGHT hours and turned up late to WrestleMania

WWE has dismissed a report that claimed The Rock was late for his WrestleMania showing.

‘The Great One’, real name Dwayne Johnsonenjoyed a four-month-long run in the company at the start of this year after returning in January to play a part in the WWE Championship story.

Returning as a heel, he aligned with real-life cousin Roman Reigns to take on Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins in the main event of night one of WrestleMania, emerging victorious to set up the main event of night two.

That match saw Rhodes defeat Reigns for his WWE Title, before The Rock revealed he would be leaving WWE again to continue his career in Hollywood.

Reports surfaced on Tuesday suggesting that Johnson was three hours late for the match on night one of the event, but WWE have now responded, with the actor also facing a number of other allegations.

Chris Legentil, Head of WWE’s Global Communications and Talent Relations, said: ‘Dwayne was not only on time for WrestleMania, he was hours early to help with rehearsal and a pleasure to work with throughout the entire run.’

The report from The Wrap, meanwhile, also claimed the 51-year-old has shown up on set of his new film ‘Red One’ up to eight hours late, costing the film an extra £40million.

It has also been claimed that Johnson would often urinate in water bottles to save time and ask his PA or team to dispose of it, which crew members were ‘upset’ with.

Another claim was that the actor would also miss entire days of filming, causing the dramatic increase to the budget.

It is suggested in the report that Johnson has had a lack of professionalism, while it was also claimed that he has on occasion left over 100 crew members waiting ‘for no reason’.

‘It was a f***ing disaster,’ one insider told The Wrap, while another said: ‘Dwayne truly doesn’t give a f***.’

A spokesperson for Amazon MGM – who are the film studio behind the film – responded with a firm denial to the allegations in the report.

The studio representative told The Wrap: ‘Dwayne Johnson and [producer] Seven Bucks have been incredible partners on Red One—a film that audiences of all ages are going to love this holiday season.

‘Our testing has been very strong — the reaction from CinemaCon speaks for itself — and we couldn’t have made it without Dwayne’s constant work and support. Any reporting that implies that we got to this point with him showing up seven-eight hours late to set is both ridiculous and false.’

Meanwhile another insider close to Amazon MGM said that the budget never actually veered far from the figure it was greenlit at.

The source told The Wrap: ‘It is completely normal for there to be budget fluctuations within 15 per cent of the target, which is exactly what we experienced.’

UFC star Arman Tsarukyan has £28k of his purse withheld for punching a FAN who swore at him on walk to the octagon, with fighter shrugging off incident: ‘I’m from Russia, please don’t do that’

Arman Tsarukyan has lost out on £28,400 for punching a fan en route to the octagon for his fight with Charles Oliveira at UFC 300.

The Russian, who beat his Brazilian opponent to move into title contention, hit the headlines for the wrong reasons after the huge fight in Las Vegas.

He was filmed on the cage walk when one of the crowd shouted something at him from close proximity.

Tsarukyan reacted instantly and tried to punch the spectator, throwing a right hand over the barrier before continuing on to the cage.

Now, the Nevada State Athletic Commission have withheld 20 per cent of his £126,000 earnings from the fight.

There will be a disciplinary hearing in May so the amount could yet change, but the commission noted that the fan in question did not want to press charges.

After the incident, Tsarukyan was asked about it and was not remorseful, doubling down on his actions.

He said: ‘He showed me “f*** you” and he wanted to punch me and I wanted to punch him back. That’s it. So guys, no one show me “f*** you.”

‘It doesn’t matter who you are, I’m going to punch you in the face. You can show me “f***” from like 200 meters, I’m not going to punch you. But when you’re close to me, it’s, like automatically, I’m from Russia. Don’t do that, please, or I’m going to go to prison in US.’

Further punishment in the form of a fine could come Tsarukyan’s way when the NSAC review further footage and make their judgements at the next meeting.

When Dana White was asked about it, he said the fan should not be surprised by the reaction of the fighter.

Hulk Hogan bizarrely claims he received a voice note from a dead WWE legend TWO DAYS after they passed away as the Hall of Famer talks ‘surrendering to Jesus’ at aged 70

Former WWE star Hulk Hogan has bizarrely claimed that he received a voice note from Roddy Piper after his death.

Wrestling legend Piper spent a number of years in WWE over various different stints, with his last match coming in 2011 against The Miz, though he appeared in a non-wrestling capacity after.

He passed away in 2015 at the age of 61, with it ruled he had suffered a cardiopulmonary arrest caused by hypertension.

The Hall of Famer buried the hatched of a rivalry with Hogan at WrestleMania 30, alongside Paul Orndorff and Mr. T, with all four men facing of at the first WrestleMania.

Hogan, however, has now made a sensational claim that he was contacted by his friend after his death.

‘It was a voice message,’ Hogan began, speaking on The 700 Club. ‘This text message came in two days after he died and it goes, “I’m just loving you, my brother. Just walkin’ with Jesus. Walkin’ with Jesus and loving you, my brother”.

‘I was like, “He would have never said that when he was here”.’

Hogan and Piper’s rivalry spanned several decades, with the pair facing off for the then-WWF Championship back in 1985.

Their match set up the first-ever WrestleMania, now WWE’s flagship show, with Orndorff and Piper facing Hogan and Mr T. The latter team won the match.

They then clashed again in 1996 in a storyline involving legendary faction nWo, with Piper beating Hogan, though he later lost a title match against the same man.

When Piper returned to WWE in 2003, he again attacked Hogan, with the rivalry going down as one of the most famous in the company’s history.

Speaking of Piper’s death on an episode of WWE Legends, Hogan said: ‘I felt like I got shot in the chest with a cannon. It knocked me off track for a couple of days.

‘It was really weird because I get this voice message, either my phone was messed up. That really spooked me out, to get a voice message from somebody after the passed away.’

The message was also played out loud on the episode.

The former champion appears sporadically in WWE today now his in-ring career is over, with fans split on their opinions of the 70-year-old.

He has also turned to religion in recent years and has spoken about ‘surrendering to Jesus’ – not the former WWE wrestler.

Viral doorbell footage of Sean Strickland shows the former UFC fighter brandishing a gun to pranksters outside his home, only six months after he held a man at gunpoint on his property.

Strickland, who last fought in the Octagon in January, told TMZ that the incident took place over the weekend, roughly at 1 a.m. on Saturday.

According to the fighter, several teens jumped out of a car and got onto Strickland’s front yard before making a loud bang near the home’s entry after getting around the house.

The home’s surveillance video then shows Strickland walking out with a bathrobe in reaction to the noise, as he can be seen with a firearm in his left hand. No shots were fired.

‘You guys have a car, it’s a Friday night,’ Strickland said in a caption of the footage shared on his Instagram. ‘Why aren’t you out trying to get P? Kids these days. All the wrong priorities.’

Ryan Garcia ‘tests positive for banned PED after shock upset win over Devin Haney’

Ryan Garcia tested positive for PEDs following his upset victory over Devin Haney last month, according to reports.

The 25-year-old floored Haney three times over 12 captivating rounds at Barclays Center to produce the biggest victory of his career following weeks of bizarre social media posts and rants in the buildup to the bout.

However, Garcia tested positive for the banned performance-enhancing drug Ostarine after taking a Voluntary Anti-Doping Association test, boxing journalist Dan Rafael reported Wednesday night.

He reportedly failed for the substance in two urine sample tests taken the day before the fight and also following the fight.

A sample also screened positive for 19-norandrosterone but is unconfirmed until further lab analysis, according to ESPN’s Mike Coppinger.

Garcia will now have 10 days to request his B-sample be tested, which he must pay for himself.

The troubled boxer immediately took to social media to deny the claims Wednesday night, branding the reports ‘fake news’.

‘I came on here to address this bull-f***ing-s**t claim that I cheated,’ Garcia said in a video posted to X. ‘Everybody knows I don’t cheat.

‘What can I say? Why didn’t they come out with this before, if they found it before? Why would they still let me into the ring? I came out with a victory and then they post this.

‘These are people that are trying to attack me for whatever reason. But no weapon against me shall prosper. I’ve never taken a steroid in my life.’

Garcia continued to hit back at the reports in a series of social media rants, suggesting in one post that the news broke as an attack on him because he was pictured with Donald Trump.

‘Hmm I’m seen with trump,’ he wrote. ‘And now I’m positive for steroids. This is a straight attack. Crazy.’

‘I’m find out who paid who to create this lie,’ he added in another. ‘NOW IMA RELEASE EVERYONES S***. TIME TO EXPOSE THE REAL SNAKES.’

He also alleged that people were trying to take away his ‘greatest victory’ before insisting that he is not going to rematch Haney.

Garcia had pleaded his innocence in an X space where he was joined by his close friends who also denied the allegations, stating they were with him 24 hours a day.

‘I don’t even know how to get steroids, I don’t even know what it looks like,’ he insisted to his fans, while his friends in the space maintained that they had his back before it was swiftly ended after just four minutes.

In a statement made to ESPN following the claims, Haney said: ‘We learned about this situation not too long ago and it’s unfortunate Ryan cheated and disrespected both the fans and the sport of boxing by fighting dirty and breaking positive not once, but twice.

‘I’ve always been an advocate for clean fighting and this is an example of such. Ryan owes the fans an apology, and by his recent tweet he still thinks this is a joke. We put our lives on the line to entertain people for a living. You don’t play boxing.

‘This puts the fight in a completely different light. Despite the disadvantage, I still fought on my shield and got back up!

‘People die in this sport. This is no laughing matter.’

In a clip posted on Garcia’s social media last Friday night, he shadow boxed in front of a smiling Trump and a small crowd – at what appears to be the 77-year-old’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.

‘Donald Trump 2024!’ Garcia then shouted. Alongside the video, he added a caption which read: ‘TRUMP IS MY FRIEND’

Garcia had weighed in at 143.2lbs ahead of the fight, 3.2lbs heavy meaning he had to pay out a huge $1.5million to Haney after agreeing to pay $500,000 for every pound over that he came in at during a Thursday press conference.

For much of the past few months, meanwhile, Garcia has been in the headlines for his antics outside the ring. Before beating Haney, he divorced the mother of his newborn son and then proposed to Australian porn star Savannah Bond.

Since his victory, however, Garcia has been surrounded by other women. He was pictured hand-in-hand with TikTok star Grace Boor in Miami.

That came shortly after he was seen getting close to influencer Alexa Dellanos. She has 9m followers on Instagram and is the daughter of American TV host and journalist Myrka Dellanos.

Then, in another Instagram video, Garcia was lounging around with a mystery woman, who is sporting a diamond ring that is supposedly valued at $1.5million.

An outstanding South Australian boxer could have been wearing the green and gold at the Paris Olympics if it wasn’t for the state’s laws against same-sex couples adopting children before 2017.

Lightweight prodigy Fred Zziwa, 26, has become one of the most feared boxers in the country due to his speed and power, and the Uganda-born athlete planned to showcase his skills at the 2024 Olympics in July.

However, Zziwa’s adoptive Aussie mother, Melina Mayne, is a lesbian and legislation in South Australia before 2017 prevented same sex couples from legally adopting.

Zziwa was forced to get a series of temporary visas while living in Victor Harbour, South Australia, and because of the delay in adoption he hasn’t been able to get citizenship and cannot qualify for the Paris Games.

‘That is the tragedy for him and for Australia, he’s been robbed of going to the Olympics,’ Mayne told News Corp.

‘Had the same-sex adoption laws been amended even a year earlier, I would have adopted Fred and he would have had his citizenship and he would have been going to Paris.

‘But I am just so proud of what he’s been able to achieve despite the challenges; the nutritional challenges he had as a child, the educational battles, and the mental hurdles he had to overcome when we were fighting for visas.’

Zziwa, who has since turned professional, has wins in the amateurs against several active Australian champions in multiple weight divisions – a feat rarely seen in the sport.

His biggest problem as a professional is trying to find somebody who will step in the ring with him.

Zziwa’s former coach in South Australia, Mark Nethercott, said: ‘He clearly has more power than anyone in the division in the country.

‘That’s why everyone is avoiding him.

‘He also has a high boxing IQ, able to make adjustments quickly in order to figure his opponents out.’

Zziwa has since moved to NSW to be trained by top coach Joel Keegan, and now has his sights set on beating the very best in his field.

‘I have a dream to be world champion, and I won’t stop until I am there,’ he said.

‘And one day, there will be a statue of me in Victor Harbour. I have already spoken to the council about this, you will see that statue of me.’

Mike Tyson admits he constantly blew money on lawsuits after ‘getting caught up in a vortex of destroying’ amid struggles with fame

Mike Tyson admitted he constantly blew money on lawsuits after ‘getting caught up in a vortex of destroying’ during his newfound fame during his initial rise in boxing.

Tyson won his first world championship at 20, less than two years into his professional career.

And he did so in dazzling fashion, winning 26 of his first 28 professional fights via knockout.

During his rise from zero to hero, which he detailed on GOOD TROUBLE with professional tennis player Nick Kyrgios, Tyson’s my mother and brother died.

In addition random people would come up to him asking for pictures and saying they loved him, or to give them stuff. Sometimes, Tyson would not be in the mood and would get violent about it. Then the lawsuits started coming in.

‘I was always being sued,’ Tyson said. ‘Constantly blew my money away from being sued and going to court and just associating with the wrong people and making bad business decisions.’

‘And it was just the whole caboot, pretty much. That was just me getting caught up in a vortex of destroying myself,’ Tyson continued.

Tyson said ‘self-love’ was what got him out of that dark place and back on track.

‘Love is not buying myself a new mansion, a new car. Love is buying somebody else a mansion. It’s pretty interesting I found that out late in life,’ Tyson said.

How long ago does Tyson actually mean?

‘Not too long. A year or two ago. The more money you give, you’re like the less I need,’ Tyson added.

Tyson has not fought in a sanctioned bout since 2005’s loss to Kevin McBride.

That will change this summer as the now 57-year-old Tyson gets back into the ring against Jake Paul on July 20, as the bout has been approved by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations.
