New Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder hurdle arises as Saudi boxing chief throws massive spanner into works

A FRESH spanner has been thrown into the works of a grudge match between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder.

The pair’s long-overdue showdown was on the brink of coming to fruition last December before Wilder suffered a shock loss to Joseph Parker.

AJ, however, refused to close the door on a dust-up with the American and revealed earlier this month that he could potentially fight him at Wembley.

But Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh seemingly has different plans for Wilder, who returns to the ring on June 1 for a do-or-die showdown with Zhilei Zhang.

Alalshikh plans to have Wilder take part in a domestic dust-up against the undefeated Jared Anderson should he come through his Riyad rumble with Zhang.

Alongside a picture of himself and Anderson, Alalshikh tweeted: “The talented Jared Anderson is with us now on [the] August 3rd Riyadh Season card at LA, against the ‘Bronze Bomber’ Deontay Wilder.

“If he’s ready by then to fight after 1st of June’s fight against Zhilei Zhang.”

Joshua, 34, hasn’t set foot inside the ring since his brutal two-round demolition of former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in March.

But he recently claimed he’s on course to fight either Wilder, Zhang, Filip Hrgovic or Daniel Dubois this September.

He told talkSPORT late last month: “Whenever they tell me there’s a date, you know I’ll be ready 100 per cent.

ANTHONY JOSHUA punched his way to the top of the world before being knocked off his perch.

From humble origins in Watford to Olympic hero, the boxer has made a heavyweight impact in and out of the ring.

Eddie Hearn claims a collision with rival Tyson Fury could be worth a whopping £200million.

The pair’s bitter feud saw them refuse to say a word to each other as they met Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia.

Joshua has already hinted at when he will hang up his gloves.

And he revealed why his son will NEVER be allowed to box. despite amassing a £215m empire thanks to the sweet science.

AJ enjoys a lavish lifestyle including private jets and a £350k watch.

His career and sponsorship deals have seen him swap his council estate upbringing for a luxury car collection.

London hairdresser Kika Osunde is believed to have swept the KO king off his feet.

But Joshua still lives with his mum Yeta when he is not on the road.

“It’s gonna be in London, Wembley Stadium.

“This is what I’m being told. If that’s what they say, they normally back their word so let’s go with that.

    “Wembley, September 20 or 21.”

The Watford warrior added: “On June 1 in Saudi Arabia they’ve got the 5 vs 5 card.

“You’ve got Filip Hrgovic vs Daniel Dubois, and you’ve got Zhilei Zhang vs Deontay Wilder.

“So providing one of those looks good – the one who looks the best, His Excellency Turki Alalshikh said to me, ‘I want you to fight [him].’

“What he says is, ‘In the future I want people to look back at your record and say that you took on the best.’

“I said, ‘Now you’re speaking my language.’

“So out of that pool, I believe that’s who I’m gonna be fighting, one of those.

“We’re on the same page and he’s on the same page as the fans as well.

“But Fury’s got his obligations with Oleksandr Usyk so I’ve gotta make sure I stay focused and disciplined.

“Keep steamrolling through opponents so I can get closer and closer to having the opportunity of me versus Tyson Fury.”

BRIDGE THE GAP Lawrence Okolie vs Lukasz Rozanski: UK start time, TV channel, live stream for Bridgerweight world title bout

LAWRENCE OKOLIE is gunning for a world title shot once again as he takes on Lukasz Rozanksi later this month.

‘The Sauce’ lost the WBO cruiserweight belt to former stablemate Chris Billam-Smith last summer and has been recuperating since.

But now he’s back at a different weight class, the WBC’s newly-created Bridgerweight, to try and win gold once again.

Okolie takes on Rozanski, who beat Alen Babic to win the 224lb title last year.

Victory would make him a two-weight world champion with the added foresight that he could yet challenge as a heavyweight one day.

But first he needs to get past Rozanski, who will be bang up for it in front of his home fans.

    When is Okolie vs Rozanski?

Okolie’s clash with Rozanski will take place on Friday, May 24.
The match will be held at the Podpromie Arena in Rzeszow, Poland.
Ring-walks for the main event should get going from around 10.30pm BST.

What channel is it and can it be live streamed?

Okolie vs Rozanski will be shown live on Sky Sports Arena in the UK.

You can live stream the action from the NOW TV or Sky Go app, both of which are available for download onto your mobile or tablet device.

    What has been said?

“I’m excited to go to Poland and test myself yet again on away ground,” said Okolie.

“Rozanski is a good champion, with an explosive style, but I’m coming to do some serious damage. He has never seen power like mine.”

“I’m defending my world title in my own backyard, in my city, fighting against a former world champion,” said Rozanski.

“It’s a fantastic fight, for moments like these, I’ve trained hard all my life.”

Oscar De La Hoya admits he’s ‘praying’ for Mike Tyson ahead of his ‘dangerous’ fight against Jake Paul as 57-year-old prepares to return to the ring in July

With Jake Paul and Mike Tyson‘s fight closing in, Oscar De La Hoya expressed concern for his fellow boxing legend.

The sanctioned professional fight features a glaring age difference between the 27-year-old Paul and Tyson, who will be 58 by fight night. Still, many fans believe that Tyson’s knockout power and killer instinct from his prime will transcend youth and lead him to victory.

However, De La Hoya sits on the other side of the fence. In an interview with TMZ Sports, The Golden Boy warned Iron Mike to ‘be careful.’

‘I’m gonna pray for Mike Tyson, ’cause I love Mike Tyson,’ De La Hoya said. ‘I think Jake Paul, look, he’s a real fighter. He really is. It’s a dangerous fight. Mike Tyson, be careful, please.’

The fight will be at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on July 20. Additionally, it will be the first event to stream live on Netflix.

Paul has earned a reputation for fighting athletes far removed from their primes. Wins over the likes of Tyron Woodley, Nate Diaz, and Anderson Silva have padded his 9-1 record.

The YouTuber-turned-boxer is coming off back-to-back wins over Andre August and Ryan Bourland.

On the other hand, Iron Mike has not seen the ring since his exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020 – a bout that saw Paul knock former NBA star Nate Robinson out in the undercard.

Tyson held a 50-6 professional record, with 44 knockouts, before retiring in 2005.

When asked if a loss to Paul would be detrimental to Tyson’s legacy, De La Hoya insisted said: ‘No, Mike Tyson is cemented, legacy, forever. Mike Tyson will be the man forever.’

Hulk Hogan bizarrely claims he received a voice note from a dead WWE legend TWO DAYS after they passed away as the Hall of Famer talks ‘surrendering to Jesus’ at aged 70

Former WWE star Hulk Hogan has bizarrely claimed that he received a voice note from Roddy Piper after his death.

Wrestling legend Piper spent a number of years in WWE over various different stints, with his last match coming in 2011 against The Miz, though he appeared in a non-wrestling capacity after.

He passed away in 2015 at the age of 61, with it ruled he had suffered a cardiopulmonary arrest caused by hypertension.

The Hall of Famer buried the hatched of a rivalry with Hogan at WrestleMania 30, alongside Paul Orndorff and Mr. T, with all four men facing of at the first WrestleMania.

Hogan, however, has now made a sensational claim that he was contacted by his friend after his death.

Hogan said that he received a voice message saying that Piper was ‘walkin’ with Jesus’

‘It was a voice message,’ Hogan began, speaking on The 700 Club. ‘This text message came in two days after he died and it goes, “I’m just loving you, my brother. Just walkin’ with Jesus. Walkin’ with Jesus and loving you, my brother”.

‘I was like, “He would have never said that when he was here”.’

Hogan and Piper’s rivalry spanned several decades, with the pair facing off for the then-WWF Championship back in 1985.

Their match set up the first-ever WrestleMania, now WWE’s flagship show, with Orndorff and Piper facing Hogan and Mr T. The latter team won the match.

They then clashed again in 1996 in a storyline involving legendary faction nWo, with Piper beating Hogan, though he later lost a title match against the same man.

When Piper returned to WWE in 2003, he again attacked Hogan, with the rivalry going down as one of the most famous in the company’s history.

Speaking of Piper’s death on an episode of WWE Legends, Hogan said: ‘I felt like I got shot in the chest with a cannon. It knocked me off track for a couple of days.

‘It was really weird because I get this voice message, either my phone was messed up. That really spooked me out, to get a voice message from somebody after the passed away.’

The message was also played out loud on the episode.

Hogan has been somewhat of a controversial figure in recent times, making a number of claims that fans have questioned.

He once suggested that Mike Tyson was ‘scared’ to face him in a boxing match, and claimed he would write his film movie scripts.

The former champion appears sporadically in WWE today now his in-ring career is over, with fans split on their opinions of the 70-year-old.

He has also turned to religion in recent years and has spoken about ‘surrendering to Jesus’ – not the former WWE wrestler.

Last December he was baptized alongside his wife Sky at a church in Florida.

Ryan Garcia ‘tests positive for banned PED after shock upset win over Devin Haney’

Ryan Garcia tested positive for PEDs following his upset victory over Devin Haney last month, according to reports.

The 25-year-old floored Haney three times over 12 captivating rounds at Barclays Center to produce the biggest victory of his career following weeks of bizarre social media posts and rants in the buildup to the bout.

However, Garcia tested positive for the banned performance-enhancing drug Ostarine after taking a Voluntary Anti-Doping Association test, boxing journalist Dan Rafael reported Wednesday night.

He reportedly failed for the substance in two urine sample tests taken the day before the fight and also following the fight.

A sample also screened positive for 19-norandrosterone but is unconfirmed until further lab analysis, according to ESPN’s Mike Coppinger.

Garcia will now have 10 days to request his B-sample be tested, which he must pay for himself.

The troubled boxer immediately took to social media to deny the claims Wednesday night, branding the reports ‘fake news’.

‘I came on here to address this bull-f***ing-s**t claim that I cheated,’ Garcia said in a video posted to X. ‘Everybody knows I don’t cheat.

‘What can I say? Why didn’t they come out with this before, if they found it before? Why would they still let me into the ring? I came out with a victory and then they post this.

‘These are people that are trying to attack me for whatever reason. But no weapon against me shall prosper. I’ve never taken a steroid in my life.’

Garcia continued to hit back at the reports in a series of social media rants, suggesting in one post that the news broke as an attack on him because he was pictured with Donald Trump.

‘Hmm I’m seen with trump,’ he wrote. ‘And now I’m positive for steroids. This is a straight attack. Crazy.’

‘I’m find out who paid who to create this lie,’ he added in another. ‘NOW IMA RELEASE EVERYONES S***. TIME TO EXPOSE THE REAL SNAKES.’

He also alleged that people were trying to take away his ‘greatest victory’ before insisting that he is not going to rematch Haney.

Garcia had pleaded his innocence in an X space where he was joined by his close friends who also denied the allegations, stating they were with him 24 hours a day.

‘I don’t even know how to get steroids, I don’t even know what it looks like,’ he insisted to his fans, while his friends in the space maintained that they had his back before it was swiftly ended after just four minutes.

In a statement made to ESPN following the claims, Haney said: ‘We learned about this situation not too long ago and it’s unfortunate Ryan cheated and disrespected both the fans and the sport of boxing by fighting dirty and breaking positive not once, but twice.

‘I’ve always been an advocate for clean fighting and this is an example of such. Ryan owes the fans an apology, and by his recent tweet he still thinks this is a joke. We put our lives on the line to entertain people for a living. You don’t play boxing.

‘This puts the fight in a completely different light. Despite the disadvantage, I still fought on my shield and got back up!

‘People die in this sport. This is no laughing matter.’

In a clip posted on Garcia’s social media last Friday night, he shadow boxed in front of a smiling Trump and a small crowd – at what appears to be the 77-year-old’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.

‘Donald Trump 2024!’ Garcia then shouted. Alongside the video, he added a caption which read: ‘TRUMP IS MY FRIEND’

Garcia had weighed in at 143.2lbs ahead of the fight, 3.2lbs heavy meaning he had to pay out a huge $1.5million to Haney after agreeing to pay $500,000 for every pound over that he came in at during a Thursday press conference.

For much of the past few months, meanwhile, Garcia has been in the headlines for his antics outside the ring. Before beating Haney, he divorced the mother of his newborn son and then proposed to Australian porn star Savannah Bond.

Since his victory, however, Garcia has been surrounded by other women. He was pictured hand-in-hand with TikTok star Grace Boor in Miami.

That came shortly after he was seen getting close to influencer Alexa Dellanos. She has 9m followers on Instagram and is the daughter of American TV host and journalist Myrka Dellanos.

Then, in another Instagram video, Garcia was lounging around with a mystery woman, who is sporting a diamond ring that is supposedly valued at $1.5million.

How a shocking anti-gay law stopped one of Australia’s best athletes from wearing the green and gold at the Paris Olympics

An outstanding South Australian boxer could have been wearing the green and gold at the Paris Olympics if it wasn’t for the state’s laws against same-sex couples adopting children before 2017.

Lightweight prodigy Fred Zziwa, 26, has become one of the most feared boxers in the country due to his speed and power, and the Uganda-born athlete planned to showcase his skills at the 2024 Olympics in July.

However, Zziwa’s adoptive Aussie mother, Melina Mayne, is a lesbian and legislation in South Australia before 2017 prevented same sex couples from legally adopting.

Zziwa was forced to get a series of temporary visas while living in Victor Harbour, South Australia, and because of the delay in adoption he hasn’t been able to get citizenship and cannot qualify for the Paris Games.

‘That is the tragedy for him and for Australia, he’s been robbed of going to the Olympics,’ Mayne told News Corp.

‘Had the same-sex adoption laws been amended even a year earlier, I would have adopted Fred and he would have had his citizenship and he would have been going to Paris.

‘But I am just so proud of what he’s been able to achieve despite the challenges; the nutritional challenges he had as a child, the educational battles, and the mental hurdles he had to overcome when we were fighting for visas.’

Zziwa, who has since turned professional, has wins in the amateurs against several active Australian champions in multiple weight divisions – a feat rarely seen in the sport.

His biggest problem as a professional is trying to find somebody who will step in the ring with him.

Zziwa’s former coach in South Australia, Mark Nethercott, said: ‘He clearly has more power than anyone in the division in the country.

‘That’s why everyone is avoiding him.

‘He also has a high boxing IQ, able to make adjustments quickly in order to figure his opponents out.’

‘I have a dream to be world champion, and I won’t stop until I am there,’ he said.

‘And one day, there will be a statue of me in Victor Harbour. I have already spoken to the council about this, you will see that statue of me.’

Mike Tyson admitted he constantly blew money on lawsuits after ‘getting caught up in a vortex of destroying’ during his newfound fame during his initial rise in boxing.

Tyson won his first world championship at 20, less than two years into his professional career.

And he did so in dazzling fashion, winning 26 of his first 28 professional fights via knockout.

During his rise from zero to hero, which he detailed on GOOD TROUBLE with professional tennis player Nick Kyrgios, Tyson’s my mother and brother died.

In addition random people would come up to him asking for pictures and saying they loved him, or to give them stuff. Sometimes, Tyson would not be in the mood and would get violent about it. Then the lawsuits started coming in.

‘And it was just the whole caboot, pretty much. That was just me getting caught up in a vortex of destroying myself,’ Tyson continued.

Tyson said ‘self-love’ was what got him out of that dark place and back on track.

The win marked Garcia’ biggest victory of his career to date, and came after weeks of bizarre social media posts and rants in the buildup to the bout.

The high of the victory was soon turned into a major low, however, with boxing journalist Dan Rafael reporting on Thursday that the lightweight has returned a positive test for banned substance Ostarine.

The troubled boxer immediately took to social media to deny the claims Wednesday night, branding the reports ‘fake news’, and opponent Haney has now responded.

Ryan Garcia denies claims that he ‘tested positive for banned PED’

In a statement made to ESPN, Haney said: ‘We learned about this situation not too long ago and it’s unfortunate Ryan cheated and disrespected both the fans and the sport of boxing by fighting dirty and breaking positive not once, but twice.

Haney’s father and trained Bill Haney told Sports Illustrated: ‘You trying to hurt my baby.

‘We played it fair. We didn’t do it like that.

‘F*** boxing, this is some bulls***. I came from the streets.

‘You scared of Devin on a level playing field. I feel f***ed up over this.’

Garcia will now reportedly have 10 days to request his B-sample be tested, which he must pay for himself.

He reportedly failed for the substance in two urine sample tests taken the day before the fight and also following the fight, with the bout going 12 rounds and securing Garcia the 21st win of his career, with just one loss to his name, though that could now be taken away from him.

A sample also screened positive for 19-norandrosterone but is unconfirmed until further lab analysis, according to ESPN’s Mike Coppinger.

On X, formerly Twitter, he posted a series of messages in the immediate aftermath of the allegations including sharing a video and speaking on a Space.

Other posts included: ‘I need more steroids I’m addicted UGHHH’, and ‘They are trying to take my greatest victory away kinda sad when you think about it I DONT CARE I LOVE GOD AND HE WILL MAKE THIS RIGHT I love you Jesus’.

In the video, he said: ‘I came on here to address this bull-f***ing-s*** claim that I cheated. Everybody knows I don’t cheat.

Devin Haney is ‘absolutely FURIOUS’ after Ryan Garcia’s failed drug tests, says Eddie Hearn… as beaten champion eyes ‘immediate no-contest’

Eddie Hearn says Devin Haney has been left ‘absolutely furious’ following the news of Ryan Garcia’s failed drug tests, with the beaten super-lightweight champion calling for an ‘immediate no-contest’.

Garcia picked up the bragging rights in his grudge match with Haney on April 20, knocking his former amateur rival down three times and claiming a majority-decision win – albeit having come in three-and-a-half pounds over the super-lightweight limit.

Nearly two weeks on from that victory, it has now emerged that the 25-year-old tested positive for Ostarine, a banned substance that builds muscle mass and enhances rate of fat loss, both the day before and the day of the fight.

Boxing journalist Dan Rafael reported on Wednesday night that Garcia failed for the substance in two urine sample tests for the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association, while a sample also screened positive for 19-norandrosterone – another banned substance – but is unconfirmed pending further lab analysis.

Haney took to social media to tell Garcia his failed tests are ‘no laughing matter’ on Wednesday

Haney broke his silence on social media after learning of his rival’s failed tests, insisting it puts his first career defeat in ‘a completely different light’ while telling Garcia it is ‘no laughing matter’. The latter, meanwhile, is protesting his innocence on X.

The morning after the bombshell report came to light, Hearn, who co-promoted Haney for the fight with Garcia, claimed the situation has left his man feeling ‘screwed’.

‘I spoke to Devin last night, in his mind he’s absolutely furious,’ the Matchroom chief told The Stomping Ground.

‘The guy came in three-and-a-half pound overweight and had performance-enhancing drugs in his system. He will want the contest to be an immediate no-contest [and] for that to be scrubbed off the card.

‘Regardless of Ryan’s innocence or guilt in this situation, he had performance-enhancing drugs in his system when he fought Devin Haney – and he came in three-and-a-half pounds over.

‘If you’re Devin Haney right now you’re thinking, ‘F*** me, I’ve been screwed.’

Garcia has 10 days to request his B-sample to be tested for the same substance, a test he must pay for himself.

He immediately took to social media to deny the claims Wednesday night, branding them ‘fake news’.

‘I came on here to address this bull-f***ing-s**t claim that I cheated,’ Garcia said in a video posted to X. ‘Everybody knows I don’t cheat.
