  • Max Verstappen hits back at McLaren boss over Adrian Newey ‘first domino to fall’ talk

Max Verstappen hits back at McLaren boss over Adrian Newey ‘first domino to fall’ talk

Red Bull's Max Verstappen and McLaren's Zak Brown with a Red Bull badge between.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and McLaren’s Zak Brown.

While understanding the reasoning, Max Verstappen believes McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown is simply trying to “stir things up” with his comments in the wake of the Adrian Newey bombshell.

It was confirmed on the eve of the Miami Grand Prix that Newey – one of the most successful Formula 1 designers of all-time – would leave Red Bull after the first quarter of 2025, though his involvement with the Formula 1 team is already over.

Max Verstappen not phased by Zak Brown stirring tactics

Brown would give his take on this Newey development, saying he was  “not surprised” by it, considering the off-track saga which rocked Red Bull earlier in the year, adding that Newey would be “probably the first domino to fall my guess is, not the last based on the resumés that are flying around”, as he suggested Red Bull staff will be pondering if it is “time to move on?”

However, Verstappen is not giving any credit to such talk, suggesting Brown’s words are typical of an F1 rival trying to take advantage of any perceived opportunity.

“He obviously wants to stir things up,” said Verstappen. “For us as a team, we can’t do anything with comments like that.

“From his point of view, I understand it of course, because everyone is trying to attract our people and that is completely normal in the world of Formula 1 as well.

“But I’m not really interested in those things either. I see the headlines, but I don’t even click on them.”

More on how Adrian Newey exit could impact Red Bull

Despite looking well set to claim a fourth successive Drivers’ Championship with Red Bull, Verstappen’s future with the team has also been a consistent topic for debate over recent months, with Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff having made it be known publicly that he would “love” to sign Verstappen.

And with the Red Bull F1 team losing their design guru, Verstappen was asked whether Newey’s exit directly impacts his future?

Again, he places little value in what is being said, claiming that the press did not know the “roles” correctly at Red Bull with Newey involved.

However, it was a “not at the moment”, rather than a straight “no” from Verstappen when it came to assessing any influence that Newey leaving could have on his Red Bull tenure.

“Not at the moment,” Verstappen replied when asked if Newey’s departure impacts his Red Bull future?

“I think people in the press, they’re making up a lot of things at the moment, because they don’t understand how the roles were in the team.

“But of course, like I said before, I cannot deny that I would have preferred him to stay, just for how he is as a person, his knowledge. And of course, what he will bring to potentially another team if he wants to join.

“Besides that, I trust that the people that we have, they are incredibly good at what they do.”

While Newey has “no plans” for life beyond Red Bull, he has left the door open to a potential Formula 1 return.

‘As if those words were put into his mouth’ – ‘Strange’ theory raised over Max Verstappen damage claim

Max Verstappen hand to head next to Christian Horner

Christian Horner has weighed in on the ‘rumblings’ about Max Verstappen’s future

That Max Verstappen and Christian Horner had opposing views on the damage the Dutchman’s RB20 suffered when he clobbered a bollard at the Miami Grand Prix has been seen as a sign all is not well at Red Bull.

Although the Milton Keynes squad has won four of this year’s six Grands Prix, away from the track rumours of disconnect and tension in the wake of the Horner investigation continue to make headlines.

‘After that it becomes even more curious…’

So much so it has been suggested, although it must be said denied Horner, that Adrian Newey’s exit is a result of the drama from back in February.

Amidst rumours Verstappen could be off to Mercedes in the not-too-distant future, Red Bull announced last week that design legend Newey would leave the team in the first quarter of 2025.

The announcement raised eyebrows in the paddock, but that’s not the only thing that has NOS’ Formula 1 pundits wondering about the situation over at Red Bull.

Last Sunday, Verstappen lost the Miami Grand Prix to Lando Norris in a race in which the Dutchman clobbered a bollard which he joked he “didn’t like”.

He denied that his off-track excursion had any lingering effects.

“It didn’t feel different, so I don’t know,” he said. “Maybe it was already damaged. I don’t know. I mean I hit that thing and then my pace was the same so I didn’t really know if there was damage.”

But according to Horner, Verstappen had “actually done quite a lot of damage to the underside of the car” in that off-track moment.

Verstappen, in the Red Bull press release, changed his tune as he spoke of “understeer” and struggling “a lot with grip”, adding Red Bull had “found that the floor was damaged and had a hole in which could have been picked up from hitting the cone.”

Jan Dekker called the U-Turn “curious”.

“It is curious that a team boss says to twenty journalists he had significant damage and that affected his lap times,” F1 journalist Dekker told NOS’s F1 podcast. “And Verstappen says: I don’t know anything.

“After that it becomes even more curious because then there is a press release in which Verstappen said that there was damage, as if those words were put into his mouth.

“Everything is going well at Red Bull, but the internal communication… The fact that Horner says that while Verstappen says not, I find that strange.”

More on Adrian Newey’s Red Bull exit

However, his fellow pundit Jan Lammers says Dekker is making a big deal out of nothing.

“That could also just be because they haven’t spoken to each other yet,” says the 67-year-old. “You collect data and then one person has seen something and discusses it with Horner, while Max is busy with other things.

“The questions were asked to him at a time when he had not yet spoken to everyone.”

Dutch racer Jeroen Bleekemolen believes Verstappen’s press conference comments may have been made to avoid taking away from Norris’ maiden Grand Prix victory.

“Verstappen perhaps did not want to detract from Norris’s victory. He indicated that he had honestly beaten him, that he had the better car,” he said.

  • Carlos Sainz playing ‘dangerous game of poker’ with ‘one-year’ Mercedes option on the table

Carlos Sainz playing ‘dangerous game of poker’ with ‘one-year’ Mercedes option on the table

Carlos Sainz and prominent logos of Mercedes and Audi

Is Carlos Sainz closer to resolving his F1 future?

Carlos Sainz is playing a “dangerous game of poker” with Audi reportedly giving him until Monaco to commit but he wants to wait on Max Verstappen’s Mercedes decision.

Dropped by Ferrari even before the first race of this season, it was thought that Sainz would find a home at Sauber, which will be rebranded Audi in 2026.

Mercedes want to remain ‘flexible’ for Max Verstappen or Kimi Antonelli

But with Lewis Hamilton off to Ferrari, thus leaving a seat open at Mercedes, the Spaniard is said to risking it all on the possibility of joining George Russell at the Brackley squad.

So much so that respected Spanish journalist Antonio Lobato took to social media to claim that Sainz had “missed” a deadline with Audi in the hope of securing a “more competitive” seat.

Sainz denied this, telling the media in Miami: “No, that’s not correct. There’s no truth about it. As I’ve said before, there are certain things that don’t depend fully on myself and there’s going to be some waiting to be done.”

One of those ‘things’, claims F1-Insider.com, is Max Verstappen.

Publicly courted by Toto Wolff, the Red Bull driver may not be heading to Mercedes next season but he could yet make the move in 2026. And therein lies Sainz’s hold-up.

“The catch”, as F1-Insider put it, is that Wolff is “only offering him an option for after 2025”, so “effectively only a one-year contract.

“The Stuttgart team wants to remain flexible if Max Verstappen decides late to say goodbye to Red Bull or junior Andrea Kimi Antonelli is ready for Mercedes as early as 2026.”

Sainz therefore has to decide between one guaranteed season at Mercedes, or a long-term future with Audi.

The 10 drivers out of contract at the end of the F1 2024 season

    Audi, though, won’t wait forever.

Having already announced Nico Hulkenberg as one of Stake’s 2025 drivers, the team will reportedly say goodbye to Valtteri Bottas while Zhou Guanyu’s spot will be determined by Sainz’s decision.

The Spaniard has until Monaco to make the call.

“Sainz doesn’t have much time left for his dangerous game of poker,” claims the German publication. “Audi wants an answer by the GP in Monaco in two and a half weeks at the latest.

“Otherwise, the people of Ingolstadt will look for an alternative. Among others, the French Alpine pilots Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly are on the list as Plan B.

“If Sainz chooses Mercedes, he could be without a contract again in 2026 when Verstappen or Antonelli come and the door is closed at Audi.”

As for Red Bull, the publication claims that “door is closed” with Sergio Perez set to stay on in 2025.

Sainz’s father, Carlos Sainz Snr, said: “There is a lot of speculation at the moment, but there is nothing to report yet.”

Victoria Beckham and David Beckham have been one of the most fashion-forward couples since they first got together more than two decades ago, so it’s no surprise that the designer’s collection of engagement rings is one for the ages.

When David Beckham first proposed to the then-Spice Girls singer in 1998, he did so with a three-carat marquise-cut diamond, which the couple proudly showed off outside their hotel room for photographers.

Since tying the knot on July 4, 1999, Victoria has added to her jewelry collection, sporting many different sparklers on her ring finger over the years.

Beckham has shown off 15 rings total since that day, in all colors, shapes and sizes, and they’re all just as posh as the next. (And though we haven’t confirmed the exact makeup of each gem, for the purposes of this slideshow we’ll assume they’re real precious stones.)

Take a look at her gorgeous engagement ring collection ahead.

Just a few months later, Beckham debuted a unique moonstone on her ring finger as she attended the 2015 CFDA Fashion Awards in June. So as not to take away from the ring, she went for an all-black look with a simple manicure.

In 2016, Beckham went back to basics with a square-cut diamond ring. She showed off the sparkler at the Cannes Film Festival as she walked the red carpet for the Cafe Society premiere. Wearing a black and white jumpsuit, she paired the ring with two shiny bracelets.

Victoria Beckham’s parents have undoubtedly influenced her life and success.

The British designer and Spice Girls alum famously insisted that she came from a “working class” family in the 2023 Netflix documentary series Beckham, though in the now-viral clip she conceded that her father did indeed drive her to school in a Rolls Royce.

Born in Essex, England, in 1974, Victoria is the eldest daughter of Jackie and Anthony Adams. While her parents came from modest beginnings, they found success in creating their own electronics supply company.

“My dad worked really hard to have the money for us to have a nice house,” Victoria told Vogue in 2017. “My family brought me up telling me I could achieve absolutely anything. Whenever I said I can’t do it, my dad, he just wouldn’t hear it.”

Following in her family’s entrepreneurial footsteps, Victoria has launched multiple successful businesses, including her eponymous fashion line and her cosmetics line Victoria Beckham Beauty. She married soccer star David Beckham in 1999 and the couple share sons Brooklyn, Cruz, Romeo and daughter Harper.

Here’s everything to know about Victoria Beckham’s parents, Jackie and Anthony Adams.

They were married in 1970 and have three children

Jackie and Anthony were married in 1970 and welcomed their first child, Victoria, in 1974. They went on to have two more children, daughter Louise and son Christian and raised their family in Goffs Oak, Hertfordshire in the U.K.

In 2022, Victoria shared a tribute to her parent on their 52nd wedding anniversary via Instagram. “Happy anniversary!! 52 years!!” she captioned a pair of photos of the couple. “We love you both so much!!! Your marriage is an inspiration to us every day.”

    They founded a business together

Jackie worked as an insurance clerk and hairdresser while Anthony was an electronics engineer. Later, they founded an electrical supply business together.

During the 1980s tech boom, the company found massive success and helped the family build their fortune.

Now an affluent neighborhood, Victoria’s hometown of Goffs Oak was much more rural when she was a child. Jackie and Anthony purchased the family home over 40 years ago and have built additions over the years.

“They bought it as a shell and did it all themselves,” Victoria told Vogue during a tour of her parent’s house in 2017. “I remember my mum cooking on a camping stove because we didn’t have a proper kitchen.”

“Never would I have thought all those years ago that Vogue would be shooting me at my parents’ house,” she added.

Anthony drove a Rolls Royce in the ‘80s

In a now-viral moment from their Netflix docuseries, Beckham, Victoria tells cameras that she and David come from “very working class families.”

David then pokes his head into the room and playfully interrupts the interview by asking, “Be honest. What car did your dad drive you to school in?” After some back and forth, Victoria admits that her dad drove a Rolls Royce in the 1980s.

In response to the internet’s frenzy over the clip, Victoria created a t-shirt with the slogan “My Dad had a Rolls Royce,” released by her fashion label.

“I can’t fight it anymore, yes my dad drove me to school in a Rolls Royce! 😂 Kisses  @David Beckham,” the designer captioned a TikTok video promoting the item.

Jackie was strict about Victoria’s clothing as a teenager

Victoria told Vogue that as a teenager, Jackie refused to let her dress like her fashion idol, Sandy from the movie-musical Grease.

“Did I have a perm that was slightly distasteful? Yes. Did I wear strange jeans? Yes. Did I look inappropriate ever? Not until the Spice Girls,” she told the outlet in 2017. “My mum would never let me go out dressed like that.”

Jackie was less strict about makeup, though. Victoria also recalled her mother dabbing lipstick on her cheeks as a cream blush because she thought her daughter looked too pale.

They taught Victoria about business and finances

Jackie and Anthony’s business savvy inevitably tricked down to Victoria. The designer said that she and her siblings were involved in the business and often helped their parents pack orders in the living room.

“We were always part of what they were doing,” Victoria told Vogue in 2017.

They also taught Victoria to be financially responsible. The fashion designer explained to Vogue that she had a part-time job at a hardware store, they instructed her to put half of her wages into a separate bank account “for tax.”

“They don’t teach you that at school,” Victoria added.

Victoria has credited her parents with encouraging her to achieve her goals.

“My family brought me up telling me I could achieve absolutely anything,” she told Vogue in 2017. “Whenever I said I can’t do it, my dad, he just wouldn’t hear it. He’d say, what do you mean you can’t do it? Why? Why? And I do that to my own children as well.”

Jackie and Anthony also remain proud of their daughter’s music career. At their home in Goffs Oak, they have a shed where they store 3,000 scrapbooks filled with Spice Girls cuttings and memorabilia.

Victoria often enjoys family outings with her parents. In December 2023, she posted a series of Instagram photos from a night out with David and their children well as Jackie and Anthony.

“Special night with my family. I love you all so much x,” she captioned the photos, which appeared to be taken at restaurant.

In her 2017 Vogue interview, the designer said that the family also likes to spend time at Jackie and Anthony’s home.

“My mum and dad are happiest when we’re all here,” she told the outlet.

David Beckham and Daughter Harer Sing Along at The Weeknd Concert: ‘Embarrassing Dad Moment’

In an interview with Vogue Australia earlier this summer, Victoria talked about some of her fears as her kids — particularly daughter Harper — get older. She worried about how body shaming has erupted on social media and her worries of how that might impact Harper one day.

“Harper isn’t on social media, so we don’t have to worry about that just yet. But seeing how cruel people can be, yes it really does [concern me],” she said at the time.

Victoria said that Harper is “at that age where her body is going to start changing, but it’s about making sure that we communicate a lot as a family and she surrounds herself with nice friends. But it is quite terrifying, I can’t lie.”
