Oleksandr Usyk spotted working on trademark move in training… but here’s why it WON’T work against Tyson Fury

OLEKSANDR USYK has been keeping his head on a swivel in his final preparations for Tyson Fury.

The undefeated Ukrainian will look to become a two-time undisputed champion when he faces the Gypsy King for all the heavyweight marbles on May 18.

Fan favourite Usyk will have significant height and reach disadvantages when he throws down with the WBC titleholder.

The southpaw’s path to victory lies in utilising his speed, footwork and head movement – the latter of which he’s been fine-tuning ahead of the Saudi showdown.

Fresh footage from the 37-year-old’s training camp has shown him extensively practising his bobbing and weaving.

Usyk, of course, brilliantly kept his head off the centre line in his back-to-back victories over Anthony Joshua.

Although he was aided by AJ’s bizarre decision not to utilise his attributes and attempt to outbox him.

Fury, 35, could very well opt to adopt a similar approach in the first undisputed heavyweight title fight in nearly 25 years.

Although his recent admission that the former cruiserweight king has “got more than boxing ability” than him suggests he’ll undertake a different approach.

It would make sense for Fury to stay out of the pocket and keep Usyk at the end of his 85-inch power jab.

As would carefully-timed blitzes when he lands something of note from a distance.

If he chooses to engage Usyk in the pocket, he’ll find himself eating punches in bunches from all angles.

The physical advantages Fury possesses over fan favourite Usyk have made him the bookies’ favourite to win the historic unification bout.

But the Wythenshawe warrior recently told Queensberry Promotions: “It won’t come down to, ‘He’s bigger than me or he’s smaller than me.

“I think it will come down to who wants it most on the night.

“If he wants it more than me, he will win and if I want it more than him, I’ll win, but either way I think we’re in for a real treat.”

Fury is relishing the challenge of becoming the first man to defeat smooth operator Usyk in the professional ranks, saying: “Usyk is a bad man.

“He’s a real bad man and any underestimation of Oleksandr Usyk – you’d be a mug.

“I’m training hard for him, I’m doing everything I can, I respect Usyk as a man.

“I respect his career as well, he’s been Olympic champion, he’s had 350 amateur fights or something.

“And he’s been an undisputed cruiserweight champion, and he’s a unified heavyweight champion.

“So, you have to respect that.

“I’m not fighting a guy that’s had 14 and won 11, I’m fighting the real deal, as real a deal as Holyfield.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

Why Oleksandr Usyk wears straps on his arms ahead of blockbuster Tyson Fury clash… as the Ukrainian boasts ‘the hard work is done’ for the heavyweight bout

Oleksandr Usyk has shared a photo of a brutal practice to help him ahead of his historic bout against Tyson Fury.

The two heavyweights will go head-to-head in a little over a week’s time in Saudi Arabia in a bout that will decide the undisputed champion of the weight division.

Opinions are split on who will come out on top in the fight, with both men undefeated and proud champions but putting it all on the line in a fight that has been dubbed one of the biggest heavyweight clashes of all time.

Both men appear to be doing all they can to grab an extra edge ahead of the fight, and Usyk took to social media to reveal a common – but uncomfortable – technique to do just that.

He shared a post-training photo on his Instagram account on Thursday, with fans questioning why he had two devices wrapped around his biceps.

Oleksandr Usyk has shown off his brutal method of putting on muscle ahead of his clash with Tyson Fury

The Ukrainian boasted that ‘the hard work is done’ in the caption of the social media post

The two heavyweights will go head-to-head in a clash to crown the undisputed champion

The devices were belt-like objects that are used to restrict blood flow to the arms, a technique boxers often use to help build muscle.

The bands are known as pneumatic restriction cuffs and the Ukrainian had no qualms about showing them off online.

With less blood flow to the muscles, they therefore receive less oxygen and tire quicker.

Pressure around the limb also leads to pooling of blood in the limbs, which causes hypertrophy, and is only usually carried out by trained professionals.

It causes muscles to swell and get bigger, meaning the boxer is effectively stronger ahead of their fight, which is what Usyk is likely aiming for.

In the photo, captioned: ‘The hard work is done,’ the 37-year-old, who boasts a 21-0 record in professional boxing – including back-to-back wins over Anthony Joshua – can be seen sat on the edge of a ring post-workout.

‘He no longer looks like a blown up cruiserweight,’ one fan commented on the post.

Another added: ‘I feel Fury will lose.’

Fury, meanwhile, impressed fans in showing off his slimmed-down physique ahead of the fight

While Usyk has been looking to put on weight ahead of the bout, Fury has displayed his slimmed-down physique ahead of the rearranged fight.

Although it has been reported that the star eats 6,000 calories a day, he stunned fans with a body transformation in a topless photo shared on his own social media.

Fury, who is defending his WBC belt against Usyk on May 18, shared the snap on the social media platform with the caption ‘Undisputed incoming’ and the date of their fight.

OLEKSANDR USYK broke down in tears remembering his father’s heavenly visits before big fights.

Ukraine’s 37-year-old WBA, WBO and IBF champion won gold at the 2012 London Olympics.

Oleksandr Usyk broke down in tears as he discussed his late father

The Ukrainian champ couldn’t avoid crying despite his best efforts

He showed a picture of his father to the camera

But before he got home to celebrate with his already struggling dad and No1 fan, he passed away.

Tragically Usyk’s decision to wait three days for a luxury new car to arrive – which he was desperate to show his dad after a life of hardship – meant he missed his final moments.

But Usyk Sr returns before big fights and gives his son ethereal courage.

He explained to TNT: “He watched me become Olympic champion, but I didn’t make it back in time to show him the gold medal.

“When I arrived he was already lying in the coffin.

“I handed him the medal, put it in his dead hand and then left the room.

“I was on my way back from London, I was already in Ukraine, three more days and I would have been home but I was waiting for a super-car to arrive.

“I wanted to bring it with me and show him what a cool car I had.

“My mum called me at 3am to tell me the news.”

Usyk, a devout father-of-four, gives off a sense of guilt that he was not there for his father’s parting.

But thankfully on the eve of big fights, his proud father returns in his dreams and manages to show his boy how proud he is of his magnificent achievements.

“Sometimes he comes to me the day before the fight,” he said with tears filling his eyes and emotion choking his voice.

“Don’t cry,” he barked jokingly as he wiped away tears. “You’re a man.

“Yes, sometimes he comes the day before the fight and smiles.”

Tyson Fury needs a NUTRITIONIST to ‘step in’ after revealing shock new-look before facing off with Oleksandr Usyk in undisputed heavyweight title fight, warns Carl Froch

Carl Froch has voiced his concern over Tyson Fury‘s significant weight loss ahead of the Gypsy King’s showpiece clash with Oleksandr Usyk on May 18.

The Briton is due to meet his Ukrainian opponent at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh next week as they vye to become the undisputed world heavyweight champion.

Fury and Uysk were initially due to do battle in February of this year, but their long-awaited clash was postponed after the former sustained a nasty injury in training.

The additional preparation time appears to have only stoked Fury’s desire to come out on top, with the fighter repeatedly wowing fans with his body transformation in the build-up to the clash.

But former boxer Froch suggested that Fury’s obvious change in physique could come with a downside – even though the 35-year-old has likely been consuming around 6,000 calories a day.

‘If he’s losing weight and he’s slimmer, he could struggle. I’d like to see him perform at a slimmer weight.’

Froch went on to state that he wondered if a nutritionist should intervene to ensure that Fury doesn’t slim down past the necessary point.

‘Fury’s upped the training, he’s upped the diet a bit more,’ the ex-super middleweight added. ‘He’s eating more healthily and the weight’s just falling off.

‘His body and the way it looks is a product of his training camp.

‘I am fat now, I was fat as a baby and I will be fat on my death bed. We’re all fat. Hughie is fat, Shane’s fat, my dad’s fat and even my mum’s fat. I hope she’s not watching this. But, we’re a fat family.

‘He trains every day, my brother Hughie, like unbelievable. He’ll run, train, box. I am the same. Two-three times a day, in or out of camp but I’ve always been fat. Even when I got down to 17stone, like this, I still had love handles. It’s my trademark for sure.’

Froch agreed, adding: ‘One of the main advantages Fury has over Usyk is his size.’

‘And if he’s going to bring that size down, he then has to rely on his speed and his movement and his boxing ability.

The Gypsy King will face off against Usyk on May 18 in Riyadh in a bid to become the first unified heavyweight world champion in 24 years.

While Usyk is the IBF, WBO, and IBO title holder, Fury is the incumbent WBC champion.

With both fighters still unbeaten after immense professional careers it is no surprise that the finances involved are jaw-dropping.

Fury is reportedly contracted to earn 70 per cent of the the total purse, according to The Independent.

However, he will have to donate £1m of his earnings to Ukraine, Usyk’s homeland, amid the invasion of Russia.

That requirement is stiuplated in his fight contract.

The unification fight was originally scheduled for February 17 but was postponed after Fury suffered a nasty gash above his eye while sparring, requiring 15 stitches.

Fury has undergone a massive transformation as he trains for the titanic bout against Usyk, 37.

One of the biggest fights in boxing history, Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk is just a week away from taking place.

Fury will step into the ring opposite the brilliantly talented Ukrainian on Saturday, May 18 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for the unified titles.

The highly anticipated fight will see two of boxing’s biggest giants go toe-to-toe for the right to be called the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

Unlike his fight with Ngannou, which saw the 35-year-old rock up to the ring with little to no preparation, Fury seems to be locked into this training camp and has even brought his dad back into the fold.

Here is a look inside Fury’s training camp as the former world heavyweight champion has introduced a strict diet and training regime.

    Look who’s back…

Fury has offered plenty of insight for fans into his training camp over recent weeks ahead of his fight with Usyk and he’s brought a familiar face back into the fold.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that John would not be a part of Fury’s camp leading up to the Usyk fight.

During the early stages of his son’s camp, John even hit out at ‘Camp Fury’ over how certain things were handled within the camp ahead of his sons mountainous fight.

John criticised his sons training method as Fury vs Usyk had to be postponed after the English man suffered a cut to his eye after a sparring session gone wrong.

His father was critical of Fury’s training technique as he said he would have handled camp slightly differently if he was in charge – stating he would have done ‘body sparring and technical work’ ahead of a fight of ‘this magnitude’.

‘It was a freak accident’, John said. ‘For my money, I’d have done things a little bit differently, with a fight of this magnitude so close, I’d have been doing body sparring and technical work with some long-range practice, but who am I? I don’t know, do I?’.

Although reasons were not made clear as to why he was excluded from the camp, all seems to be harmonious once again as video footage recently shared on social media shows the two working together again.

Bringing back his father is not the only action Fury has taking for the fight, he has also followed a new strict meal plan which has seen the boxer get in the ‘best shape of his life’ according to his dad.

    An incredible body transformation

Nutritionist Greg Marriott revealed to Men’s Health that Fury’s new diet sees him consume 3,000 calories on rest days and between 4,500 to 6,000 calories on training days.

The strict diet has been aimed at providing the 35-year-old with enough energy to fuel his intense training regime while also managing his weight.

His nutritionist revealed that the Gypsy King is eating up to six meals a day under his diet plan compared to previous camps, where he had previously consumed one or two meals a day.

Some of the meals reportedly included in Fury’s diet includes having two slices of sourdough toast, avocado butter spread with fresh garlic tabasco and black pepper for breakfast, as well as fresh plum tomatoes and lean beef mince sausages.

Oatmeal and protein with fresh nuts and chia seeds, and omelettes have also been included as breakfasts.

For lunch Fury has recorded himself feasting on chicken, rice and a mixed salad.

A dinner under the diet plan included a 400 gram filet steak with Dijon mustard, as well as roasted vegetables including broccoli, asparagus and beetroot.

For all of his dietary changes, ultimately, the proof will be in the pudding…

Mystery tweaks to the strategy and a brutal regime

In addition to Fury’s nutritional discipline, he’s been pushing his body to the limit in training.

The British fighter has posted regular updates on his social media showing gruelling workouts, including a clip of him shifting huge weight on the leg press machine in the gym, grimacing as he does so.

In another video he is shown pushing a heavy metal sled along a gym runway, working on both his cardiovascular endurance and leg muscles.

He also shared footage working on ‘speed and power’ on the pads being held by his father while training in San Francisco.

Tyson Fury’s trainer also revealed that ‘adjustments’ will be made for his clash with Usyk in Saudi Arabia.

Some in the boxing world have been outspoken over concerns that Fury may struggle to deal with the Ukrainian’s southpaw stance however his, trainer SugarHill Steward, said that won’t be the case.

According to ProBox TV, he said: ‘I haven’t changed anything in that respect. I wasn’t in his corner for the [Otto] Wallin fight, and we’ve not faced a southpaw since, so there wasn’t anything to change.

‘It’s about adding something extra to what he already has. Tyson has a great mind and he’s very intelligent, he is one of the best.

‘The Wallin fight he won anyway, the problems he had were from the cut he had on the night.

‘I’m not going to tell you what I’m going to change, obviously. I can’t be giving away our game plan for the Usyk fight. [But] I will be making some adjustments.’

Revealed: When The Rock is expected to return to WWE and what his next match will be as he returns to Hollywood to prepare for new movie role ‘The Smashing Machine’

Immediately recognisable when his music hits, The Rock’s return sent fans instantly into a frenzy before Wrestlemania 40.

Despite the building shaking, the most electrifying man in sports entertainment was the subject backlash upon his return.

When he entered the ring after Cody Rhodes had won the Royal Rumble and stepped past the American Nightmare to confront Roman Reigns, fans were left confused and frustrated.

It seemed that his return to action would see him face off with his family to main event Wrestlemania 40, while Rhodes stepped aside.

But WWE moved away from that direction as Cody opted to race Reigns instead and The Rock aligned himself with The Bloodline.

And it would appear, this decision will have repercussions when Wrestlemania 41 rolls around.

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the plan is to have Rhodes and The Rock face off at Wrestlemania 41, in a match that could pit the WWE Championship against The People’s Championship.

Meltzer stated, ‘Those in WWE have noted that there is no guarantee Rhodes will be champion at that time, which is where the people’s belt comes in. But so many things can change over the course of a year.’

The initial move by The Rock set up one of the most violent and enthralling feuds in recent history in the build-up to the company’s biggest show.

The Rock took to social media almost weekly in explosive, expletive laden rants at The American Nightmare, taking shots at his mum in the process.

He even made sure to mention the late great Dusty Rhodes as he took every verbal jab possible.

That culiminated in a tag team match between The Rock and Roman Reigns against Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins on night one of Wrestlemania 40, that saw the Bloodline come out victorious.

Despite losing on the first night, Cody would go on to be victorious on night two and claim the WWE Championship.

The following night on Raw The Rock confronted the new champion and told him never to break his heart again before seemingly returning a gift Cody had given the People’s Champion.

Since then, The Rock has turned his attention back to Hollywood as he prepares for his role as Mark Kerr in ‘The Smashing Machine’.

But it would appear that fans will not be disappointed as they wait with baited breath for the moment Rhodes and The Rock meet one-on-one in the middle of the ring.
