Boxing World Rocked: Anthony Joshua Breaks Silence with Explosive Take on Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk Clash!

AJ has also disclosed when he will fight next, and the opponents lined up.

ANTHONY JOSHUA has waded in on Tyson Fury’s undisputed super-fight against Oleksandr Usyk.

Fury and Usyk will compete in the heavyweight division’s first four-belt unification contest on May 18 in Saudi Arabia.

Anthony Joshua has twice lost to Oleksandr Usyk.

Tyson Fury and Usyk facing off

AJ dedicated his career to becoming undisputed but his shot was ripped away by double defeat to Usyk.

So Joshua, 34, is backing his old rival to walk away with all the titles and bragging rights come judgement day.

He told talkSPORT: “I’ve fought Usyk so I can only speak on what I’ve experienced with him – phenomenal fighter, I would say he’s gonna do a really good job.

“I’ve never fought Fury, so I can’t speak on what it’s like to face him. Only speaking on what I know, I have to say Usyk will be victorious.”

Joshua has won four on the spin since losing his rematch to Usyk, 37, in August 2022.

He most recently knocked out ex-UFC champion Francis Ngannou, 37, in two rounds in March.

And Joshua is pencilled in to return in September at Wembley – but his opponent remains up in the air.

Filip Hrgovic, 31, and Daniel Dubois, 26, fight on the 5v5 Eddie Hearn vs Frank Warren bill on June 1 in Saudi Arabia.

And it could be for the IBF title should the winner between Fury, 35, and Usyk be stripped of it after their unification.

So Joshua is eyeing up the chance to fight for the belt in his bid to become a three-time champ.

But Deontay Wilder, 38, also returns against Zhilei Zhang,40, in Saudi and those two also remain possible opponents for AJ.

Joshua revealed: “On June 1 in Saudi Arabia they’ve got the 5 vs 5 card.

“You’ve got Filip Hrgovic vs Daniel Dubois, and you’ve got Zhilei Zhang vs Deontay Wilder.

“So providing one of those looks good – the one who looks the best, His Excellency Turki Alalshikh said to me, ‘I want you to fight [him].’

“What he says is, ‘In the future I want people to look back at your record and say that you took on the best.’

“I said, ‘Now you’re speaking my language.’

“So out of that pool, I believe that’s who I’m gonna be fighting, one of those.

“We’re on the same page and he’s on the same page as the fans as well.

“But Fury’s got his obligations with Oleksandr Usyk so I’ve gotta make sure I stay focused and disciplined.

“Keep steamrolling through opponents so I can get closer and closer to having the opportunity of me vs Tyson Fury.”

  • Settle a 30-year family feud, agree to a 50-50 split and come out unscathed against two dangerous fighters… here is everything that needs to happen for Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury’s super-fight to go ahead THIS YEAR

Settle a 30-year family feud, agree to a 50-50 split and come out unscathed against two dangerous fighters… here is everything that needs to happen for Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury’s super-fight to go ahead THIS YEAR

It’s the fight everyone wants to see and so inevitably at some point this year Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will have to face-off in the most colossal of heavyweight battles perhaps of all-time.

That has been the overarching message from the men themselves and the subordinates from each camp.

It has to happen. It simply must happen we’ve been reassured. There will never be more thirst for this fight than right now; there is probably no fight in the world capable of generating as much revenue either. But don’t hold your breath just yet.

Tyson Fury is the world’s No 1 heavyweight after dismantling Deontay Wilder in Las Vegas

A super fight between Fury and unified champion Anthony Joshua in on the cards

That algorithm has not always worked well for boxing before.

Over the years, fans of the hardest game have become conditioned not to expect to see the best against the best.

So this would hardly be a first for a super-fight to slip through the net.

If we were denied a fight between Fury and Joshua, would it be on par with travesties like the rematch that never was between Lennox Lewis and Riddick Bowe and the slugfest that could have been between Erik Morales and Juan Manuel Marquez? Yes. Would it be surprising though? No.

Lennox Lewis and Riddick Bowe’s rematch is one of many fights boxing fans never got to see

Like with all things that requires negotiation, politics has always had a role to play in boxing.

And the bigger the fight the messier and more complicated it usually becomes.

There are the normal things to consider: The money split, who will be broadcasting it, the date and venue.

Then there are the minute details like who will walk to the ring last and whose name will appear first on promotions.

With high-stakes fights typically comes more fuss. Floyd Mayweather was notorious for making unreasonably high-demands and even got Manny Pacquiao to agree to Olympic-style drug testing right up until the night of their blockbuster clash back in May 2015.

Joshua will have to deal with world-level operator Kubrat Pulev in his first title defence

Mayweather recognised he was the money-fight and exploited it. You want to fight me and make a fortune, you agree to my rules first.

Fortunately, Joshua and Fury don’t seem the difficult type. But if you think it will be straight forward to make this fight, leave your better judgement at the door.

First and foremost, for there to be any possibility of this fight happening, Joshua will have to avoid a potential banana skin in the form of Kubrat Pulev – a seasoned heavyweight who is perhaps already being overlooked – while Fury must deal with Wilder again.

Fury may have schooled Wilder the first time and bullied him in the rematch, but that does not guarantee he would win the third fight.

Fury may have beaten Wilder but the American will always be dangerous with his right-hand

This is heavyweight boxing and Wilder’s right-hand is called ‘The Eraser’ for good reason.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn says ‘there is no reason’ why contracts can’t be signed now subject to both of them of winning their next fights.

That could not only serve as a distraction for Joshua and Fury, but imagine the comedown if the fight was to fall through because one of them lost.

How can you promise to offer the fight everyone is desperate to see conditionally?

Hearn has also confirmed that he has already held conversations with Bob Arum at Top Rank over making the fight.

Eddie Hearn has never spoken to Warren and described him as the ‘Thomas Cook of boxing’

No mention of Fury’s other promoter though, Frank Warren, who Hearn has never spoken to and describes as the ‘Thomas Cook of boxing’.

Of course, it just so happens that the biggest fight in a generation entails two men so inherently different they redefine the meaning of chalk and cheese, reaching a mutual agreement. Anybody know a good mediator?

In one corner you have Mr Warren, an old-school Londoner with a rich history in promoting big fights on these shores. In the other Mr Hearn, the slick Matchroom boss who’s always whirring on a salesman-like autocue and is arguably the best in the business right now.

Warren and Hearn’s disdain for each other extends back 30 years when Eddie’s father Barry pinched Nigel Benn and several other clients after branching out into boxing.

The pair did however set aside their differences in 1993 to sign a deal with Don King to broadcast Chris Eubank vs Nigel Benn in the US, as well as the UK.

Hearn would have to work with Fury’s co-promoter Warren to make the fight against Joshua

Warren and Eddie had the same issue when in 2011 he began to take control of Matchroom’s hand in the sport and convinced the likes of Tony Bellew, George Groves and Ricky Burns to jump ship.

Hearn, who has since established a world-best stable, and gone Stateside with his DAZN platform, also recently took world champions Billy Joe Saunders and Josh Warrington off of Warren.

The promoters have a long history of trading insults and the prospect of them coming together to make this fight seems fanciful at best and impossible at worst.

Possibly the biggest stumbling block of all though, will be the broadcasters as the two heavyweights are aligned with different TV networks (Joshua with DAZN and Sky Sports, Fury with BT Sport and ESPN).

BT Sport and Sky Sports have never worked together to broadcast a fight before but they would potentially have to take such unprecedented measures if Joshua and Fury were to ever agree to an all-British showdown.

Eddie’s dad Barry pictured lifting up Nigel Benn ahead of fight with Kid Milo back in 1991

With that could come a number of issues including the pay-per-view pricing and whose commentators and presenters are used just to name a few.

Mayweather’s ‘Fight of the Century’ with Pacquiao five years ago however proved that these problems can be overcome.

Mayweather had an exclusive relationship with Showtime while Pacquiao had the same with rival network HBO.

The telecast of the fight was a joint production and marked the broadcasters’ first collaboration since Lennox Lewis fought Mike Tyson in 2002.

Another anticipated problem is the venue. Fury has fought across the pond every time since his first encounter with Wilder back in December 2018 and is expected to return to Las Vegas for his trilogy bout with the American.

Fury has built up a huge reputation Stateside and would likely want the fight to happen in the US.

Floyd Mayweather’s super-fight with Manny Pacquiao proved that hurdles can be jumped

Joshua, meanwhile, is returning to London to take on Pulev at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and may be more inclined for the fight to take place closer to home.

Inevitably, money talks and Saudi Arabia are poised to make a lucrative £400million offer to host what would be a showpiece event. Whether or not Fury would be keen on such an Arabian venture remains to be seen.

This is unlikely to be a deal-breaker factor but still an obstacle nonetheless. A much more pressing subject will be the money.

Who is the A-side and who is the B-side between two genuine giants of the sport? You’d think that this would be a painless chore. Just split it right down the middle, 50-50. What’s fairer than that?

But no, you can safely expect this to be a real sticking point. Hearn feels that 50-50 is reasonable following Fury’s rise to prominence worldwide, having only ever previously offered him 40 per cent of the split to fight Joshua.

AJ is the unified champion after beating Andy Ruiz Jr but money split with Fury will be an issue

But Fury’s team believe he is the A-side now. Fury is the WBC champion and the world’s No 1 after also picking up the Ring Magazine belt by dismantling Wilder in seven rounds.

Fury and Hearn are both stubborn creatures who will take a mile if given an inch. The likelihood of either of them backing down is slim.

Joshua could also have an issue with the WBO if he emerges victorious against Pulev. The Brit was ordered to fight their No 1 ranked fighter Oleksandr Usyk earlier this year and may be forced to make a mandatory defence before taking on Fury or face being stripped.

He could, of course, forgo this and vacate, but if we are going to see the two best heavyweights in Joshua and Fury go at it, it’s got to be for all the marbles.

So, there are plenty of fences still to jump before we can even think about seeing Joshua and Fury fight. That’s not to say it won’t happen but there’s a long, long way to go.

Tyson Fury has opened talks with an Australian boxer, who was also connected to Anthony Joshua. At the same time, the Gypsy King reveals he is scouting out potential venues Down Under for his next bout

Tyson Fury has opened talks with an Australian boxer as the heavyweight champion continues to assess his options for his next fight.

Fury, 34, saw negotiations over an undisputed title fight against Oleksandr Usyk break down earlier this year and is eager to make a return to the ring to defend his WBC belt.

And according to Angelo Di Carlo – manager of undefeated Aussie heavyweight Demsey McKean – Fury’s team has been in touch over a potential August blockbuster Down Under.

‘Chats began some time ago for Demsey to fight Tyson Fury in Australia and I think Demsey is the best option for the Gypsy King,’ Di Carlo told News Corp.

‘We’re certainly keen to do the fight. We’ve had a good association with Matchroom (McKean’s promoters) and we have great respect for Eddie Hearn (Matchroom boss), but I’ll have more talks with Fury’s camp and see where that takes us.

Tyson Fury is reportedly in talks to fight an Australian boxer in his next heavyweight bout

Demsey McKean (right) had been linked with a fight against British star Anthony Joshua

‘If Tyson Fury wants to fight in Australia, the logical option is to fight an Aussie fighter and talking to Fury’s people, they don’t want to fight a small heavyweight.

‘Demsey and Justis are Australia’s best heavyweights, but Demsey is six foot six and being a southpaw, he would present a real test for Tyson.

‘We’ve been given a possible date to fight Fury in August, so hopefully we can make it happen.’

McKean had previously been in talks to fight Anthony Joshua, before the former two-time champion elected to take on Jermaine Franklin instead.

‘Demsey has said let’s make this fight happen,’ Di Carlo added.

‘For Demsey to get the chance to jump in the ring with Tyson Fury, it would be the biggest fight in Australian history and bigger than Jeff Horn-Manny Pacquiao.

‘This would be a dream come true, all the greatest heavyweights are chasing Fury … Anthony Joshua, Usyk, Andy Ruiz, Deontay Wilder, they all would love a piece of Fury.

‘Demsey is unbeaten and he is awkward enough to give any heavyweight problems.

‘Being a southpaw makes him tricky to fight and he has the youth and hunger to be competitive against Fury.

‘Tyson cannot underestimate Demsey because he has the size and power to pull off an upset.

The Australian’s manager says Fury’s team has been in touch over a date in August

Fury is currently in Australia and assessing potential venues Down Under

‘No doubt it would be a massive test for Demsey, it would be the hardest fight of his career.’

Fury is currently in Australia to support Joseph Parker ahead of his bout against Faiga Opelu on Wednesday, and revealed that he will travel around Australia on a scouting mission as he weighs up potential venues – with Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium and Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium reportedly frontrunners.

‘I’m definitely keen, it may even be my next fight, over here,’ the Gypsy King said.

‘I just haven’t got an opponent yet, so we’re going to figure it out.

‘Over the next few days we’re going to be travelling around to a few different states and looking at some potential venues for my next fight.

‘Australians are always crazy boxing fans, so it would be great to get the Gypsy King Down Under.’

Boxing fans tore into Anthony Joshua for his bizarre post-fight interview where he ducked talk of a heavyweight showdown with Tyson Fury.

Joshua produced a devastating ninth-round stoppage of Kubrat Pulev to start the second defence of his reign as world heavyweight champion in style and seemingly take a step towards a blockbuster showdown with WBC champion Fury.

But the 31-year-old strangely called for ‘less talk, more action’ and instead asked the crowd who they want to see him fight when pressed on whether a heavyweight showdown with Fury is next on the agenda.

Breaking Barriers! Saudi Boxing Chief’s Bold Aspirations: Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury Takes Center Stage in Vision for Three Epic Battles

SAUDI boxing chief Turki Alalshikh has picked Anthony Joshua versus Tyson Fury as one of his top three dream matchups.

The powerful politician has revitalized the sport by providing the funding to finally make the greatest fights happen.

Anthony Joshua with Saudi boxing boss Turki Alalshikh.

Tyson Fury vs Joshua is on Alalshikh’s boxing wishlist.

And in an “Ask Me Anything Q&A” on Reddit, he listed the three fights he most desperately wants to make.

They are as follows: Joshua vs Fury, Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford and Artur Beterbiev vs David Benavidez.

Here, SunSport runs down what makes the showdowns on Alalshikh’s wishlist so special.

    Joshua vs Fury

It is by far the greatest fight ever to be made in Britain and possibly the biggest on the market right now.

Years of feuding and speculation would finally be put to bed in a genuine blockbuster for the ages.

There is hope if Fury defeats Oleksandr Usyk on May 18 that AJ could slot in to face the Gypsy King afterwards to at last give fans – and Alalshikh – what they want.

    Canelo vs Crawford

Unbeaten American Crawford, 36, has looked almost unstoppable on his way to becoming a four-division world champ.

And he is so confident he is ready to go up THREE divisions to fight boxing’s top superstar Canelo.

The Mexican, 33, has so far seemed uninterested in the bout – but that could be quickly changed by a Saudi payday.

    Beterbiev vs Benavidez

One of Alalshikh’s biggest coups has been making the light-heavyweight undisputed showdown between Dmitry Bivol, 33, and Beterbiev, 39, on June 1.

But already, the powerbroker is thinking ahead and has plans for Benavidez, 27, to step up from super-middle to face the winner.

The unbeaten US star has chased a bout with Canelo but to no avail leaving himself open to a move to 175lb.

Fury, 35, is the bookies’ favourite to win the Riyad rumble and become the first undisputed heavyweight king since fellow Brit Lennox Lewis.

And former cruiserweight champion Johnny Nelson wouldn’t be surprised if he uses some of the dark arts to get his hand raised.

He told Sky Sports: “Tyson is a fighting man, once the bell goes he’ll try everything he can possibly get away with until the referee tells him off.

“Will it get physical? Yes. Will he use every dirty trick in the book he can get away with?

    “Without a doubt. It’s a fighting game.

“Most fighters when they get in there they play by the rules.

“And when they get hit low or with an elbow they complain to the referee and then while complaining they get beat up.”

Nelson reckons Fury’s route to victory lies in being extremely physical with the former undisputed cruiserweight king Usyk.

He continued: “He’s got to rough him up, he’s got to lean on him, hit him low, push him to the floor, get in his face, rub his glove in his face, do all the unorthodox things.

“He’s got to get the man rattled in order to feel comfortable.”

Usyk’s chances of winning the desert dust-up in explosive fashion have been written off by many.

But not by Nelson, who is adamant the slick southpaw can put him out for the count:

The 57-year-old said: “I think both men can win by knockout, without a doubt.

“Each heavyweight fight Usyk is having he’s getting more comfortable being in there with heavyweights.

“I know he had five heavyweight sparring partners, I spoke to three of them.

“And they said he got stronger as the rounds went on, and he manhandled all five of them.

“We’re thinking that Fury’s physicality is going to be a big problem for Usyk.

“But Tyson Fury’s physicality is his height, reach and speed, not the power.

“Speed leads to power – and both fighters can get knocked out.”

Should Fury suffer his first-ever defeat via brutal KO, Nelson reckons the WBC king will call time on his career.

He said: “If Fury gets knocked out like Francis Ngannou did, he’ll chuck it in.

“His pride as a fighting man will make him internally combust, doesn’t matter what his PR people say, if that happens to him he’ll struggle to accept it.

“He said before he’d struggle to accept losing to a little cruiserweight.”

  • Tyson Fury looked gutted at ringside when Daniel Dubois KO’d his cousin with thunderous right hand

Tyson Fury looked gutted at ringside when Daniel Dubois KO’d his cousin with thunderous right hand

Tyson Fury was stone-faced when he watched his cousin Nathan Gorman get knocked out by Daniel Dubois.

In 2019, the two undefeated young heavyweights were matched together in a clash for the British title – a belt the Gypsy King had himself won eight years prior.

While Dubois was the higher rated of the pair and favourite to win before the contest, Gorman had serious backing.

This mainly came from Fury, who was fully behind his cousin to emerge victorious.

Gorman was 16-0 while Dubois was just 11-0.

However Dubois had a 91 per cent KO ratio to Gorman’s 75 per cent.

This proved the telling factor in the fight itself.

“Obviously Nathan’s my cousin, so I think Nathan will win,” Fury said in an interview shown when TNT Sports released behind the scenes footage from fight night.

Fury walked his cousin to the ring and sat at ringside to soak up the action.

Dubois came out quickly, throwing heavy shots from the opening bell and as the camera panned to Fury, he was urging Gorman on but had a nervous look on his face.

In round three ‘Dynamite’ Dubois showed why he has his nickname, as he floored Gorman with a big right hand.

Fury stroked his chin, clearly not enjoying what he was seeing, but Gorman bravely made it back to his feet.

Gorman fought back, throwing wild combinations, but Dubois looked relatively unfazed.

In round five, Fury was out of his seat shouting at his cousin in an attempt to motivate him, but it was in vain.

Moments later, Gorman was KO’d by a thunderous shot from Dubois.

‘The Gypsy King’ looked gutted with the result at ringside, but he made sure to climb in the ring after the fight and show respect to Dubois.

A few years on, Fury has been full of praise for Dubois, claiming he was hard done by in his clash with Oleksandr Usyk last year.

Fury of course will now take on Usyk himself for the undisputed heavyweight world titles on May 18.
