Adrian Newey expects to join ANOTHER F1 team after his Red Bull exit… as the legendary designer opens up on why he ‘is seriously considering’ a move elsewhere

Adrian Newey has admitted for the first time that he expects to join another Formula One team following his departure from Red Bull.

Newey’s decision to leave the reigning world champions was officially announced earlier this month, with the 65-year-old calling time on his 19-year stint as Red Bull’s chief technical officer.

During an interview for Oyster Yachts with his manager Eddie Jordan, the legendary designer revealed that he is ‘seriously considering’ a move to another Formula One team after he leaves the Red Bull group in the first quarter of 2025.

‘If you’d asked me 15 years ago, at the age of 65,  whether I would be seriously considering changing teams, going somewhere else and doing another four, five years or whatever, I’d have said you were absolutely mad,’ he said.

‘But a few things have happened at once. My father, a huge car enthusiast who used to tinker around with his cars and play with them – which is where things rubbed off on me, semi-retired when he was 62 and fully retired at 65. And to be honest, it’s slightly emotional to say it, but he kind of lost his way.

‘I also asked two of the people I respect the most – Bernie (Ecclestone) and Roger Penske – what their secret is (for staying strong and healthy after retirement) and they both said that old thing that the brain is like a muscle and needs exercise.

‘I’ve wanted to work in motor racing as a designer since I was the age of eight or 10. I am lucky to have fulfilled that ambition, to have got that first job and been in motor racing ever since,

‘Every day is just a bonus really. I love what I do.

‘At some point I guess I will have a bit of a holiday. But as Forrest Gump said at the end of his long run, I feel a little bit tired at the moment but at some point I will probably go again.’

Newey has played a significant role in 13 drivers’ world championships and a dozen constructors’ titles with Williams, McLaren and Red Bull.

Following Newey’s decision to leave Red Bull, McLaren principal Zak Brown replied ‘never say never’ when asked about the prospect of recruiting the veteran.

Meanwhile, Williams chief James Vowles admitted he had a ‘light conversation’ with Newey after approaching the designer over a potential move in the future.

Newey, who negotiated an early exit from Red Bull, is permitted to begin work with another Formula One team from early 2025.

Newey's exit is believed to have stemmed partially from the controversy surrounding Red Bull chief Christian Horner, who was accused of coercive behaviour towards a female colleague

Horner, who has persistently denied the allegations, was initially cleared of wrongdoing by Red Bull following an internal investigation, but a second probe is ongoing after the complainant appealed the decision.

Newey added: ‘To walk away from Red Bull was a very hard decision but it was one I needed to take for a whole host of reasons. They had been my family.

‘I never really thought it would be big news so for it to be in all the flipping papers and on the telly was almost a bit of a shock.’

Lando Norris insists maiden F1 win at Miami Grand Prix has given him the confidence to challenge Red Bull and Max Verstappen for the title

Lando Norris says his maiden Formula One win has provided him with the platform to challenge Max Verstappen for the world championship.

Norris ended his losing streak at the 110th attempt in Miami a fortnight ago – celebrating with a 24-hour party that took in two rounds of golf at Augusta National.

Norris trails Verstappen by 53 points after the opening six rounds but, speaking ahead of this weekend’s Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola, he said: ‘Does it give me more hope that I can challenge them (Verstappen and Red Bull)? One hundred per cent.

‘We had an upgrade in Miami and it helped us but even without the upgrade we would have been good there.

‘I know Max sustained damage in the race and people use that as a reason for him not winning but even before that happened we were quicker than him by a huge chunk.

‘If I am not confident, people say I am not confident enough and if I have a bit of confidence, people say I am over confident. But we are getting closer and closer. And I know as soon as we attack some of the issues we have, we can challenge them.

‘I accept where we are and I think we are the third-best team behind Red Bull and Ferrari but that could change if we have another good weekend here.

‘And I am confident that with our rate of development, which is better than any other team on the grid, by next year we can challenge for wins and, in the big picture, hopefully challenge for the title.’

Norris rearranged his travel plans to stay in Miami an extra night and celebrate becoming the 21st British driver to enter the F1 winner’s circle before jetting 600 miles north to Georgia – the home of the Masters.

Norris, 24, continued: ‘I went to see the team and everyone was having a drink and a good time which was allowed and accepted.

‘I woke on Tuesday morning and the first time I slept was on Monday night, so it was a long couple of days but it was all worth it.’

Oliver Bearman insists he is ready to seize his ‘chance’ to land vacant 2025 Haas seat… with the British teenage star set for audition to replace Nico Hulkenberg

British teenage star Oliver Bearman is set for an opportunity to audition for a vacant Haas seat ahead of the 2025 season.

He will undergo six practice sessions in order to get prepared for his potential next team, with Nico Hulkenberg set to depart at the end of the year, and the Haas Principal Ayao Komatsu has made it clear that his training performances are the most important factor in determining his future.

Bearman, 18, impressed in Saudi Arabia earlier this year by finishing seventh when he filled in for Carlos Sainz at Ferrari, and believes he is ready to take the next step in sealing a Formula One seat for next year.

When asked whether he felt he could nail down a spot at Haas through the practice sessions, Bearman said: ‘Yes, I see it of course as my chance,’ as quoted by The Mirror.

Bearman is believed to be in pole position to replace Nico Hulkenberg, while Kevin Magnussen is also out of contract at the end of the season.

Hulkenberg will drive for Sauber next season before joining the Audi project to become the team’s first driver for its entry to Formula One in 2026,

However, the Bearman is firm that the seat still needs to be earned.

‘Just because there is a seat free, doesn’t mean I’m entitled to it,’ he said.

Despite the significant interest from the American racing team, Bearman remains focused on his fight for the Formula Two title and then plans to ‘perform well’ and ‘show’ he is ready to jump into Formula One next year.

Adrian Newey is set to join Ferrari alongside Lewis Hamilton – with sources claiming Red Bull’s chief technical officer has already SIGNED a contract with the Scuderia

Adrian Newey is almost certainly Ferrari-bound after admitting on Thursday that he expects to join another Formula One team before retiring.

Sources in Italy have indicated to Mail Sport that his contract with the Scuderia, which would partner him with Lewis Hamilton, is already signed.

Another senior figure in the sport said that if the ink wasn’t already dry that it soon would be.

Speculation over Newey’s future has swirled since the 65-year-old super-designer announced earlier this month that he would be leaving Red Bull after 19 years.

He has since been coy about what may come next, but on Thursday said: ‘I feel a little tired but at some point I’ll probably go again,’ adding that he was ‘seriously considering going somewhere else and doing another four or five years.’

He noted that his father retired at 65 and ‘kind of lost his way a bit, just lost his mojo’.

Newey is wanted by most teams in the paddock having overseen technical successes at Williams, McLaren and Red Bull. He will become available after severing links with his employers early next year.

Currently earning an estimated £15million, he has every chance of securing a major rise.

Despite the Ferrari deal being done, or nearly done, McLaren have held out hope that he might be tempted back to them. Williams have also been in touch.

Newey has previously said that he regretted having not worked with Hamilton, so pairing up with the seven-time world champion at motor racing’s most fabled team offers the perfect coda to the most successful designing career the sport has known.

Newey left Red Bull for several reasons: he felt he was not given enough credit for Max Verstappen’s winning car, believing team principal Christian Horner was basking in the limelight. Then the scandal that engulfed Horner, who was cleared of misconduct towards a female employee, stoked those resentments.

Fans later posted photos of Hamilton and Rio de Janeiro-born Juliana at a swish restaurant in the hippie chic destination.

The model – who has dated Kanye West -has been romantically linked on and off to the racing driver for some time.

Videos published on social media showed the 38-year-old sportsman, who was also previously rumoured to be getting close to Shakira, in a designer shirt and baseball cap in front of 25-year-old Juliana.

Local reports said Hamilton had been surrounded by bodyguards but seemed happy and greeted well-wishers with a broad smile.

Juliana, who made an appearance at the Miami Grand Prix paddock in May where Hamilton was competing, set tongues wagging in a partly-see-through black dress.

The Brazilian beauty was first described as Lewis’ “new girlfriend” at the start of the year when F1 fans claimed she was the woman pictured next to him as he relaxed in a hot-tub in the Antarctic with former Olympic snowboarder Shaun White.

Only part of the top half of her body including her arm was visible in the snap Shaun posted on social media, but it was enough to get Hamilton’s followers identifying the mystery female as Kanye West’s ex.

Speaking about White and Hamilton, one person said: “Of course he’s on the same boat. Check Shaun White’s Insta, they’re in the hot tub and a girl (Juliana Nalu?) in Lewis’ arms.”

Another added: “JULIANA NALU WITH LEWIS HAMILTON, REALLY???”

A third said: “Juliana Nalu with Lewis Hamilton. LOL this darling is too good.”

A fourth replied: “The Hamilton descent can be Brazilian and it only depends on Juliana Nalu.”

Hamilton became an honorary citizen of Brazil in November last year.

Congressman Andre Figueiredo had first made the suggestion after the Brit won the Brazilian Grand Prix for a third time at Interlagos.

Hamilton, who was a huge admirer of Brazilian racing icon Ayrton Senna when he was growing up, carried a green and yellow Brazilian flag on his victory lap and at the podium to celebrate with local fans.

In his last visit to the country last month for the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, he said he would return to the South American country at the end of the season.

Beyonce shot part of her Blue video in Trancoso and her sister Solange spent her honeymoon there.

American broadcast journalist Anderson Cooper is a also regular visitor.

The town has also attracted the likes of Naomi Campbell, Matthew McConaughey, Gisele Bunchen and Leonardo di Caprio.

Juliana Nalu reportedly split with rapper Kanye West in December last year after only two short months of dating.

She confirmed she was single on social media on December 5 2022 in answer to a question from a fan.

The former couple were first rumoured to be romantically linked after they were spotted out in New York in October 2022.

By signing Lewis Hamilton for the 2025 season, Ferrari may have performed arguably the biggest driver swoop in F1 history. Fred Vasseur, who shares an old relationship with the seven-time World Champion reveals that the team couldn’t say no to Hamilton once he made himself available.

While speaking to La Reppublica, Vasseur said,

All the planets aligned completely for once. I think it is a good opportunity for him and for us“.

In the same interview, the Frenchman also lauded Hamilton for being one of the greatest drivers in F1 history. He believes that Hamilton is similar to two-time Champion Fernando Alonso as they both have ample experience and know how to win titles.

He added how Hamilton will bring much more than just raw pace to Ferrari,

He will also bring his knowledge outside the car, on how to approach the weekend. He is someone who knows how to put pressure on the team with the aim of achieving excellence. That will drive us a lot“.

The Stevenage-born driver has suffered due to the slump Mercedes entered in 2022. He hasn’t won a race since the year before that (Jeddah 2021), and is desperate for a shot at competing for an eighth World Championship.

For that, both he and Ferrari need to be on their A-game from 2025 onwards.

Can Lewis Hamilton achieve the unthinkable?

Hamilton is currently on level with Michael Schumacher with seven World Titles to his name. The Briton won his first title in 2008 with McLaren after which he won six with Mercedes; during the Brackley-based outfit’s dominant period between 2014 and 2020.

After heartbreakingly missing out on his record eighth title in 2021, Hamilton never got the opportunity to fight at the front again, owing to Mercedes’ difficulties. But it could all change for him following his Silver Arrows’ exit at the end of the year.

In 2026, with new regulation changes, Ferrari is expected to make tremendous strides. What remains to be seen is if the Maranello-based outfit is able to produce a Championship-winning car for him nor not.

If they do, chances at that the 39-year-old will break Schumacher’s record and stand clear at the summit.

He explained his keenness to achieve the same in a recent interview with CBS. Hamilton said that he’s not thinking about his future beyond F1 as he is desperate to win a record eighth title.

Lewis Hamilton is just months away from realizing his lifelong dream of becoming a Ferrari driver. The coming together of two of F1’s biggest names has already kickstarted ‘Championship winning’ predictions for the Maranello-based outfit. Team Principal Fred Vasseur, however, insists that his mere presence will take them nowhere.

Speaking to Italian newspaper La Repubblica, Vasseur reveals what he expects Hamilton to do once he becomes a Ferrari driver,

“He will certainly bring speed on the track but not only that. He will also bring his knowledge outside the car, on how to approach the weekend. He is someone who knows how to put pressure on the team with the aim of achieving excellence. That will drive us a lot,”

Being one of the most experienced drivers on the grid, Hamilton will be expected to be the team leader from the get-go. For a Championship-starved outfit like Ferrari, slip-ups cannot be tolerated, especially if there are multiple contenders on the track.

Statistically, no driver has won more than Lewis Hamilton has in F1. This is what makes the Stevenage-born driver’s move to Ferrari perfect (on paper).

Meanwhile, the seven-time World Champion continues to make Ferrari’s stocks rise away from the track. As soon as his future arrival was announced, the Italian stable gained 232,000 followers on Instagram, which was 12,000 more than their average monthly gain.

The idea of working with Charles Leclerc too was an appealing prospect, with a picture of the two posted by Ferrari becoming their most liked of the year. Ferrari’s market cap also saw a surge following this news, as it reached an all-time high of $70 billion. While this ‘Lewis Hamilton effect’ is promising, Vasseur wants to see similar levels of success on the track.

Lewis Hamilton carrying expectations of success-hungry Tifosi fans

Ferrari is the most successful F1 team of all time, but haven’t been on the top step of the podium since 2008. Hamilton, with his arrival, looks to change that. He too, is vying for his eighth World Championship and Ferrari seems like the best fit for him to achieve the same.

Hamilton, likely, won’t take a lot of time to win over the Tifosi, who desperately want success. However, former Ferrari race engineer Rob Smedley still has some words of advice for the Briton.

Pointing out how “unique” the Tifosi are, Smedley claimed Ferrari is perhaps the only “national team” in F1. Each fan lines up in support of the team’s drivers, and Smedley reckons Hamilton will love it. Furthermore, should the 39-year-old be able to win, he will be treated like royalty. He will never have to pay at restaurants and the public will always be extra nice with him.

On the other hand, getting on their bad side is equally unforgiving. If one doesn’t do well, the fans will make it very clear that the driver isn’t welcome. The only ‘cheat code’ to winning the Italian fans over, is to win.

In 2021, Max Verstappen became the World Champion after a grueling season-long battle with Lewis Hamilton. For F1, it was exciting to see a change from the regular occurrence of Hamilton emerging victorious at the end of a campaign. However, what it only did was, pass on the baton of dominance to the Dutch driver.

For years, Hamilton became a victim of the claim that he won only because Mercedes was strong. His six World Championships and unparalleled dominance were deemed a result of the Silver Arrows’ mechancial package. Now, the same comments are being thrown Max Verstappen’s way, and if anything, it’s worse.

McLaren CEO Zak Brown recently said (as quoted by Planet F1), ”

As great as Max is, and he’s one of the best ever, I don’t think Max wins the World Championship today in any other car, other than the Red Bull.

Brown also added that there are ‘six or seven’ drivers in the F1 grid today who would do what Verstappen is doing with the Milton-Keynes-based outfit today. Verstappen has been the undisputed best (statistically) since 2022 and created history last season by winning 19 out of 22 races.

Brown’s comments, however, take the special aspect away from his ridiculous numbers. And with this, the 26-year-old will now have to fight off claims that Hamilton had to deal with for the majority of his career.

Is Zak Brown’s opinion on Max Verstappen valid?

It is no secret that Max Verstappen is driving for arguably the best team in F1 at the moment. Red Bull dealt with the ground-effect regulation changes of 2022 better than anyone else. This made the RB18, the RB19, and now the RB20 stronger than any other car on the grid.

Verstappen cruised to victories on most occasions. Meanwhile, others on the grid have been able to put up very little resistance despite the presence of legends like Hamilton and Fernando Alonso on the grid. So, it is evident that driving a dominant car has helped Verstappen achieve the success he has tasted as of late.

On the other hand, his teammate, Sergio Perez, has been nowhere close to matching him. Perez joined Red Bull in 2021 and in his four seasons so far, has been comprehensively outperformed. In 2023, Verstappen finished with more than double the points Perez amassed.

For a driver to do this at a level as high as F1 is staggering. But to brush away the claims Zak Brown made, Verstappen has to do something more special.

Ferrari and McLaren are on the ascendency. If they reach Red Bull’s level in the near future, drivers like Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris will have a similar mechanical package at their disposal.

Hence, if Verstappen is able to beat Leclerc and Norris then, he will prove that it is not just Red Bull’s car that helped him register all these milestones. And that he is indeed arguably one of the greatest drivers in F1 history.

Mercedes’ George Russell has managed to get the better of Lewis Hamilton on several occasions in 2024 so far, which the latter revealed was due to differences in setups. Hamilton has spoken about experimenting with these changes in order to get the best out of the W15, and it often leads to him sacrificing his outing.

Mercedes’ Trackside Engineering Director Andrew Shovlin, in a recent interview, discussed why Hamilton has to deal with these changes. Getting to the point straight away, Shovlin insists that it is for “learning more about the car.”

Hamilton himself has been eager to change setups in his car ahead of every race weekend in order to see what will or won’t work. In the process, his ability to maximize results on the track has been hindered. Shovlin said,

“He wants to learn more about where he can get the most out of the car. He has made himself a victim a few times, but if you don’t change anything, you won’t learn anything. It would be wrong to say: That’s how things are, let’s make the best of it.”

Because of the slump Mercedes finds itself in, they need to find a permanent solution. Over the last few months, any problem the Brackley-based outfit has solved has given rise to something new. To avoid this, the team is taking risks, and Hamilton is at the forefront, helping them bring about changes that will help them in the long run.

Lewis Hamilton open to helping Mercedes move months before Ferrari move

Ahead of the start of the campaign, Lewis Hamilton announced that he would leave for Ferrari in 2025. The 39-year-old would have wanted to end his historic association with Mercedes on a high, but unfortunately, the team’s poor mechanical package prevents that.

Mercedes can improve as the season progresses (although it is unlikely) and the aggressive setup changes that Hamilton has to tackle could prove to be the key. Russell’s setups are more suited to the current W15 but don’t help the engineers learn much about what they can change in the car.

The fact that Hamilton still sacrifices his results in favor of helping Mercedes improve shows his dedication to the team’s improvement, even in his final few months with the Silver Arrows.

Of course, in the coming few races, it could help Hamilton himself as well. With the right tuning of the car, there is little doubt that the Stevenage-born driver can still put his car in the front of the grid.
