Oscar Piastri given blunt warning from his team while trying to chase down fellow Aussie Daniel Ricciardo

Aussie F1 star Oscar Piastri received a stern radio message from his McLaren team at the Miami Grand Prix, while enduring one of his most frustrating days on the track.

Piastri started strong and looked like he might record a top-three finish early in Sunday’s race, before a pit stop saw him drop back to fourth.

The young gun was soon battling Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz with the pair making contact on Turn 17, sending Piastri to the pits for a replacement wing.

Piastri soon found himself back in 16th position battling fellow Aussie Daniel Ricciardo when he copped a blunt message from his team via the radio.

Oscar Piastri received a blunt radio message from his McLaren team at the Miami Grand Prix

McLaren teammate Lando Norris, 24, bagged his first Grand Prix win in Miami

With the Aussie’s teammate Lando Norris leading the race, McLaren bosses made it clear he should drive carefully to avoid anymore safety cars on the track.

‘Oscar, reminder, Lando is leading the race,’ Piastri’s engineer said over the team’s radio.

‘We do not want to cause a safety car here.’

Piastri managed to battle past Ricciardo and eventually finished in 13th position, while his teammate grabbed his debut win in F1.

Piastri was experiencing mixed emotions when speaking to press after the race.

‘I think we did a lot of things right in the first half of the race,’ Piastri said.

‘A bit unfortunate with the Safety Car timing obviously, and then [it] just kind of unravelled from there. Obviously a really good day for the team, they deserved to have both cars up there.

‘But yeah, a really encouraging day in terms of the pace and obviously to get a win on pace. [There was] a little bit of good fortune involved but Lando had the pace after, which I think is incredibly encouraging.

The Aussie young gun suffered a damaged wing while battling Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz

‘So overall mixed emotions, but very, very happy for the team.’

The Aussie was also without the full upgrade package that Norris had on his McLaren, which might have made a slight difference.

‘For Lando, to win the race on pace and to pull away from Max [Verstappen] after the Safety Car, I think that’s a very, very encouraging sign,’ he said.

‘So very happy for him and for the whole team. I think we deserve it.

‘Our trajectory in the last 12 months has been towards this moment.

‘Even with the car that I had, I think we were very strong as well.’

CEO of McLaren Zak Brown also said after the race that Piastri deserved better.

‘Oscar drove brilliantly,’ Brown said on Sky Sports.

‘I feel bad he didn’t get the results he deserved. He’ll get the upgrades. The full set of upgrades in Imola.’

Kelly Piquet tipped to break up with Max Verstappen for Liam Lawson

Max Verstappen has been warned that his girlfriend, Kelly Piquet, is ready to move on to another F1 driver.

Max Verstappen’s girlfriend Kelly Piquet was made fun of after qualifying on Saturday at the Singapore Grand Prix, following a hugely embarrassing moment for Red Bull.

The Milton Keynes-based side endured a weekend to forget at the Marina Bay Circuit, with qualifying having been the lowest of lows for them.

For the first time since the 2018 Russian Grand Prix, the Austrians didn’t have a single car progress into Q3, with Verstappen having qualified 11th with Sergio Perez in 13th.

Incredibly, it was AlphaTauri’s stand-in Liam Lawson who dumped Verstappen out of qualifying, with the Kiwi having finished P10 in Q2.

Fans quickly joked on social media that Piquet will be interested in the young driver, given that she left Daniil Kvyat at a similar time to Verstappen replacing the Russian at Red Bull.

One fan posted the meme of American TV host Anthony Adams rubbing his hands together.

“Kelly Piquet seeing Lawson out-qualify Verstappen,” @ScrewderiaF1 captioned the meme.

It was normal service for Verstappen on Sunday at least where he finished as the top Red Bull driver, after getting past Lawson very quickly.

The reigning World Champion recovered to finish fifth, whilst Perez could only recover to eighth.

Behind Perez was Lawson in ninth, who scored points in just his third F1 race.

The Red Bull reserve driver was sensational throughout the weekend and is now likely to give the Austrians a huge headache for 2024.

Having settled into F1 so quickly since replacing the injured Daniel Ricciardo, Lawson must be given a seat at AlphaTauri next season.

READ: Sebastian Vettel comes back to Formula 1

Lawson is clearly a real star of the future who could potentially be a real candidate to replace Perez at the end of 2024, although it’ll mean that either Ricciardo or Yuki Tsunoda won’t be given a spot on the grid next season.

There has been rumours that Tsunoda could become Red Bull’s reserve driver in 2024, making way for AlphaTauri to have a driver line-up of Ricciardo and Lawson.

As things stand, this looks like the Faenza-based team’s strongest possible line-up for 2024, although time will tell if comes to fruition.

  • The posts, the stories and the reels can write themselves now – it’s Lando ‘No Wins’ no more

The posts, the stories and the reels can write themselves now – it’s Lando ‘No Wins’ no more

Lando “No Wins,” no more. The cruel moniker, made famous by his detractors in the social media landscape he has inhabited since childhood, is no longer relevant for a racer whose time was always due to come.

That he referenced his critics and the trolls, not just in post-race interviews but on his slow down lap, reflects the very real impact that social media has on the modern racer.

became perhaps apparent on first meeting. Because the real Lando was, while not shy and timid, certainly not the confident banter machine his online presence would have had you believe.

And how could he be? It’s easy to forget just how young he actually was when this was all going on. He was named McLaren’s F1 test and reserve driver while competing in F3 at just 17 years of age. He made his first practice appearance aged 18. He made his Grand Prix debut at 19.

A year later, and while living alone at the age of 20, the world locked down. He, like so many, plugged himself in online and raced against his friends. He became an early star of Twitch, every second of his many hours spent online broadcast to an increasing fanbase.

How many of us have a true handle on who we are at that age and under those circumstances? How many at 30? 40?

The modern world of social media gives us but a snapshot of reality. We’re often told, for our own mental health, not to base considerations of our own life on the all too perfect versions of other’s that we see online. Because only a fraction of what we see of those we follow should be taken as being the whole truth.

Lando has provided consistently high scoring content from an engagement perspective. Be it the clip worthy radio messages and singalongs, his photography exploits, or his outings with celebrity friends, anything in which he’s involved is played out far and wide, shared by the almost 11 million followers he now has across just Instagram and X.

The dark side of this of course comes in the form of a deeper fascination and fanaticism. There’s a mob mentality which can be stirred up in his name and against his will in aggressive defense at the slightest perceived slight, while opposing factions have directed similarly awful messages at him, too.

It’s little wonder that as time marched on, as seasons came and went and the promise of a race-winning car dissolved from expectation into mere hope time and again, the shiny veneer could slip. Where he’d been jokey with the media before, little barbs started to appear. An occasional chippiness.

Held in isolation, easy to query whether the digital version no longer reflected the reality of the man. In context, easy to acknowledge the very real burden he was carrying. Because the true measure of Lando Norris is far more than the component parts of the online personality.

There’s a Lando few see. The same guy who, from karts all the way through his career, likes to take his racing machines apart with the crew. Who, when he was a reserve at McLaren, would always be found with a high viz vest on a Sunday night, packing up the garage.

Should flights allow, he still likes to get his hands dirty. Its one of many reasons why McLaren adore him and won’t hear a word against him. His work ethic, his loyalty and his humility are key facets of the man. Yet its not often the one you’ll see on his profiles.

The universal outpouring of joy in his victory tells you another side to him. Its rare in the highly competitive world of Formula 1 to make many true friends. To a man, I can’t think of a driver who wasn’t delighted for him in Miami. I haven’t seen Max Verstappen as happy all year, and he’s won pretty much everything. That affection is real. The friendships are true.

And as he brought his car to the pits, after acknowledging those who try to drag him down, he spoke words for the truly private man. For his parents and his grandmother. The part of his life he keeps closest and most guarded.

For his entire Formula 1 career, he’s had to be what people expect of him. Carry the weight of manifesting the legend of the version of himself he’d always portrayed himself as being. As he grew from teenager into adulthood, an ever growing fanbase of millions expected him perhaps never to change and to always stay the same.

On Sunday he received the only reply he’s ever sought. Validation. A Grand Prix winner. Just as he always knew he would and could be.

What stands before him now is a level of freedom he has never known, to truly embrace the destiny that stands before him.

Beyond the memes, the engagement, the lifetime lived in the spotlight of social media stardom, the witty quips and the potential to be the perfect media personality, there has always existed the hunger of the competitor. The desire to be the best. To win it all.

The posts, the stories, the reels. They can write themselves now.

The man, not the meme. Lando “No Wins,” no more.

Lewis Hamilton reveals five-word piece of advice he gave Lando Norris after Brit’s maiden F1 win at Miami Grand Prix

LEWIS HAMILTON had a short five-word piece of advice for Lando Norris after his maiden Formula One win at the Miami Grand Prix.

Norris, 24, capitalised on a rare off day for the reigning world champion Max Verstappen to win the thriller at the Hard Rock Stadium.

And Hamilton – who finished sixth – was there to congratulate his countryman and urge him to party the night away.

He told Sky Sports: “Honestly, I feel really happy for Lando. Yeah, I just told him he needs to stay tonight!”

Hamilton, 39, was asked: “Has he changed his flight? You can fly him home.”

He replied: “He’s going to try and change his flight, he’s got to, he’s just won a race!

“But, such a special moment to win your first Grand Prix and obviously I started at McLaren so I’m really happy to see them back at the top, it’s been a long time.”

Norris finished second eight times before and had come agonisingly close to breaking his duck.

In the 2021 Russian GP he slid off in the wet on the final few laps while leading. And he squandered the chance of victory in Qatar last year.

But likeable Norris finally ended his wait for a win in Miami as he finished ahead of Verstappen and Charles Leclerc who completed the podium.

Norris signed a new deal with McLaren earlier this season in a bid to fend off interest from rival teams.

He joined McLaren’s young driver programme in February 2017 after a successful junior career.

He has built himself a reputation as a brilliantly quick and smooth racing driver and his personality has made him a hit with fans and was a popular winner.

Norris, who was interviewed by Jenson Button, said: “Ahhh. About time huh? F***! – Sorry.

“It has been a long time coming but finally, I managed to do it for the whole team. I finally delivered for them.

“It was a long race but finally on top, I am over the moon. The whole weekend has been good.

“I have had some little setbacks along the way, but I knew on Friday we had the pace but we put it all together.

“Thanks to everybody at McLaren and thanks to my mum and dad too. I am just proud.

“A lot of people doubted me along the way and I made some mistakes over the past five years but also I stuck with McLaren because I believed in them.”

Inside Lewis Hamilton’s £13m collection of supercars including super rare Ferrari and £1.6m ride made entirely for him

Lewis Hamilton, an F1 legend, has an impressive automobile collection that befits his status as a racing icon.

Since his 2007 debut, the seven-time world champion has amassed an enormous wealth from motorsport.

16Hamilton, who has a deal with Mercedes, looks set to leave their F1 team

1F1 legend Hamilton shows off his Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe worth approximately £177k.

Mercedes paid him an incredible £350 million when he joined for them in 2013.

However, it could signal the end of an era. The 39-year-old is apparently set to make a surprise move to Ferrari and pair up with Charles Leclerc ahead of the 2025 season.

Hamilton’s tremendous riches has allowed him to live an enviable lifestyle.

And automobiles are undoubtedly his obsession, with a collection of supercars valued approximately £13 million.Hamilton is a self-proclaimed auto enthusiast who owns everything from the latest supercars to old classics and even electric vehicles.

He had earlier stated: “I know nothing about wine. I don’t know a lot about art.

“But what I do know is cars, and I’m very particular about them.”

Here’s a glance at some of his expensive collection::

    PAGANI ZONDA 760 LH

Hamilton’s rarest car was his £1.6 million Pagani Zonda, which was built solely for him.

The outside and interior are purple, and at the sports star’s request, he chose a manual transmission over the standard sequential one.

What are his reasons? He hated going behind the wheel at first.

He once stated, “The Zonda is difficult to drive!

    “It’s the best-sounding car I own, but handling-wise it’s the worst.”

That could explain why Hamilton was involved in an аccident in 2015, causing considerable damage to the prized vehicle.

Hamilton reportedly sold the motor in 2022.

    1966 SHELBY 427 COBRA

This magnificent antique is the most valuable car in Hamilton’s collection.

It’s an uncommon sight, estimated to be worth around £4 million, unless you’ve seen the racer driving down the Pacific Coast Highway in Los Angeles.

Hamilton was frequently seen taking his ex-missus Nicole Scherzinger for a ride in this beauty, which set him apart from the throng.

    LAFERRARI

Every car enthusiast worth their salt owns this £2 million Ferrari, which is another collector’s item whose value increases with time.

The LaFerrari has a top speed of 217 mph and can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 2.4 seconds, making it Hamilton’s fastest car.

Footballers Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Son Heung-min also operate this terrifyingly fast motor, which must feel like driving a racing car.

    MERCEDES-AMG PROJECT ONE

Lewis obtained a Project One in 2021, despite the fact that it was not officially released until 2022.

He was extensively involved in the construction of the plug-in hybrid sports automobile, which can reach a high speed of 217 mph.

Only 275 were produced, and they cost roughly £2 million.

Getting his hands on one was one of the numerous benefits of his contract with Mercedes.

    MERCEDES-AMG SLS BLACK

He already had the SL Black Series, so why not add the SLS?

Hamilton, who plainly needs speed, added this supercar to his garage, most likely because it is the quickest Mercedes in production.

The SLS, powered by a 6.2-litre V8 engine producing 622bhp, has a top speed of 196 mph.

It also accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3 seconds, making it ideal for Hamilton’s off-track thrills. For £230,000, it’s just what you’d expect.

    MCLAREN P1

Despite splitting from McLaren’s racing team, Hamilton can’t have been too upset with his old employers. In 2015, he added a £2 million P1 to his impressive collection of rides.

The P1 features a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine paired with an electric motor, giving the supercar a total power and torque output of 903 bhp and 980 Nm of torque.

That means it’s fast and powerful, capable of reaching a top speed of 217 mph and accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in just under 2.7 seconds.

    1967 FORD MUSTANG SHELBY GT500

The second old automobile in his fleet is reminiscent of one of the Eleanor models from the Hollywood blockbuster Gone in 60 Seconds.

Hamilton had his car customized by Oklahoma-based car shop Classic Recreations for an extra fee.

They can sell for up to £750k at auction, and Hamilton’s is in excellent shape. However, we doubt he will ever sell it.

    BEST OF THE REST

When the Mercedes-Maybach 6 debuted in 2016, Hamilton made sure to get his hands on the concept car.

The 2×2 coupe is fully electric and can travel up to 200 miles before requiring recharging.

Hamilton also owns another Mercedes, the Maybach S600, a premium chauffeur’s car with a partition separating the front seats from the back.

Both of those motors are worth roughly £800,000 altogether.

Hamilton doesn’t mind swapping four wheels for two, sometimes riding his £6,500 Honda CRF450RX Motocross Bike around California’s dirt circuits. Then there’s his Maverick X3 dune buggy, which would have cost him roughly £20,000 and is also electric in keeping with his eco-warrior persona.

However, with a Ferrari swap likely, can you picture the business cars he has lined up?

Adrian Newey expects to join ANOTHER F1 team after his Red Bull exit… as the legendary designer opens up on why he ‘is seriously considering’ a move elsewhere

Adrian Newey has admitted for the first time that he expects to join another Formula One team following his departure from Red Bull.

Newey’s decision to leave the reigning world champions was officially announced earlier this month, with the 65-year-old calling time on his 19-year stint as Red Bull’s chief technical officer.

During an interview for Oyster Yachts with his manager Eddie Jordan, the legendary designer revealed that he is ‘seriously considering’ a move to another Formula One team after he leaves the Red Bull group in the first quarter of 2025.

‘If you’d asked me 15 years ago, at the age of 65,  whether I would be seriously considering changing teams, going somewhere else and doing another four, five years or whatever, I’d have said you were absolutely mad,’ he said.

‘But a few things have happened at once. My father, a huge car enthusiast who used to tinker around with his cars and play with them – which is where things rubbed off on me, semi-retired when he was 62 and fully retired at 65. And to be honest, it’s slightly emotional to say it, but he kind of lost his way.

‘I also asked two of the people I respect the most – Bernie (Ecclestone) and Roger Penske – what their secret is (for staying strong and healthy after retirement) and they both said that old thing that the brain is like a muscle and needs exercise.

‘I’ve wanted to work in motor racing as a designer since I was the age of eight or 10. I am lucky to have fulfilled that ambition, to have got that first job and been in motor racing ever since,

‘Every day is just a bonus really. I love what I do.

‘At some point I guess I will have a bit of a holiday. But as Forrest Gump said at the end of his long run, I feel a little bit tired at the moment but at some point I will probably go again.’

Newey has played a significant role in 13 drivers’ world championships and a dozen constructors’ titles with Williams, McLaren and Red Bull.

Following Newey’s decision to leave Red Bull, McLaren principal Zak Brown replied ‘never say never’ when asked about the prospect of recruiting the veteran.

Meanwhile, Williams chief James Vowles admitted he had a ‘light conversation’ with Newey after approaching the designer over a potential move in the future.

Newey, who negotiated an early exit from Red Bull, is permitted to begin work with another Formula One team from early 2025.

The 65-year-old’s exit is believed to have stemmed partially from the controversy surrounding Red Bull principal Christian Horner, who was accused of coercive behaviour towards a female employee.

Horner, who has persistently denied the allegations, was initially cleared of wrongdoing by Red Bull following an internal investigation, but a second probe is ongoing after the complainant appealed the decision.

Newey added: ‘To walk away from Red Bull was a very hard decision but it was one I needed to take for a whole host of reasons. They had been my family.

‘I never really thought it would be big news so for it to be in all the flipping papers and on the telly was almost a bit of a shock.’

Adrian Newey is set to join Ferrari alongside Lewis Hamilton – with sources claiming Red Bull’s chief technical officer has already SIGNED a contract with the Scuderia

Adrian Newey is almost certainly Ferrari-bound after admitting on Thursday that he expects to join another Formula One team before retiring.

Sources in Italy have indicated to Mail Sport that his contract with the Scuderia, which would partner him with Lewis Hamilton, is already signed.

Another senior figure in the sport said that if the ink wasn’t already dry that it soon would be.

Speculation over Newey’s future has swirled since the 65-year-old super-designer announced earlier this month that he would be leaving Red Bull after 19 years.

He has since been coy about what may come next, but on Thursday said: ‘I feel a little tired but at some point I’ll probably go again,’ adding that he was ‘seriously considering going somewhere else and doing another four or five years.’

Newey left Red Bull for several reasons: he felt he was not given enough credit for Max Verstappen’s winning car, believing team principal Christian Horner was basking in the limelight. Then the scandal that engulfed Horner, who was cleared of misconduct towards a female employee, stoked those resentments.

Aussie F1 star Oscar Piastri loses front row start after copping grid penalty for blocking rival

Australian F1 ace Oscar Piastri has suffered a wretched blow – just when he was expecting to line up on the front row of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola.

Piastri had delivered one of the best qualifying performances of his fledgling F1 career on Saturday by finishing second behind Max Verstappen, leaving him dreaming of the prospect of a maiden triumph in Sunday’s race.

But the delight turned to deflation within hours as he was penalised three grid places for impeding Haas driver Kevin Magnussen in the first session of qualifying, dropping him to fifth from second on the grid.

Instead, Piastri’s teammate Lando Norris took his place on the front row, after his third-place qualifying finish.

The Melburnian’s fine last-gasp lap had been bettered only by resurgent champion Verstappen, but Piastri was adamant afterwards that he could still go on to challenge the Dutchman.

‘So, so close to pole, but very happy,’ Piastri said, after his final lap fell just 0.071 seconds slower than Verstappen’s brilliant 1 minute 14.746 seconds.

Asked if he thought he could go one place better on Sunday and become the fifth Australian to win an F1 grand prix, Piastri answered in the affirmative.

‘I think we’ve definitely been on the pace all weekend. You can never count out Max and Red Bull of course, like we’ve just seen, but I think the confidence is high,’ he added.

That, however, was his tune before stewards completed their investigation into the Q1 incident when the Australian got in Magnussen’s way at two turns, ruining the Dane’s lap and chances of reaching Q2.

So instead of being Verstappen’s nearest hunter, Piastri now has to get past the two Ferraris of third-placed Charles Leclerc and fourth-placed Carlos Sainz to even get on terms with teammate Norris.

Still, it’s been another major step up for Piastri, whose car received the full package of upgrades McLaren had first given Norris in Miami, enabling their senior driver to win his first grand prix.

Properly armed, the Australian has been marginally quicker than Norris over the two days in Italy, also having finished fastest of all the drivers in the final practice session on Saturday morning.

For Red Bull’s Verstappen, it was a dramatic return to form after problems in practice at Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari as he tied the late, great Ayrton Senna’s Formula One record of eight pole positions in a row.

It was Verstappen’s 39th career pole in all as he seemed to, almost magically, find some extra pace after finishing fifth, sixth and seventh in the three Imola practice sessions.

‘What a difficult start! But we turned it around,’ he declared on race radio, having wrapped up his seventh straight pole of the season.

Senna achieved his eight in a row in 1988 and 1989 before dying in crash on the same Imola track in 1994.

‘It’s very special. It’s 30 years since Ayrton passed away, so very pleased to get pole and in a way it’s a nice memory to him. He was an incredible F1 driver,’ Verstappen said.

There was bad news for his teammate Sergio Perez, who missed the final shoot-out and will start from 11th place on Sunday.

Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso did even worse, having to settle for 19th having also crashed earlier in final practice.

The Spice Girls reunite at Victoria Beckham’s 50th birthday bash

Key moments such as a Spice Girls reunion and the show-stopping glamour of the evening set tongues wagging.

Following the big bash, Victoria declared the evening ‘the best night ever’ – when she had to be carried out of swanky Mayfair private members’ club Oswald’s by her husband David at 2:30am.

Her recent foot injury saw the star rely on crutches for her entrance hours earlier, but she had her husband on hand for a piggy back as the night came to a close.

One guest told the Mail: ‘It was proper old school take your shoes off and have a dance and there was no way Victoria wasn’t going to be joining in. She loves a good boogie and she was not going to let her foot stop that.

‘Loads of the women kicked their shoes off to join her. They all danced for hours. There were lots of giggles and lots of outrageous moves but at the end of the night Victoria was worried about how she was going leave.

‘She couldn’t walk in her heels because of her broken foot – so David decided he would give her a piggyback – much to the kids’ amusement. They thought it was hilarious.’
