One of Meghan Markle’s Suits co-stars gave the former actress a warning after discovering she was dating Prince Harry.

Before she was known as the Duchess of Sussex, Markle was an established actress who was playing the role of Rachel Zane on the legal drama – which is currently undergoing a revival since being added to Netflix.

When Markle was first linked to the Prince in 2016, several people around the world were left shocked at a member of the Royal Family was dating an American actress – and that included the cast of Suits.

Several of Markle’s Suits co-stars had learned about the relationship before the rest of the world, however, this didn’t stop them from being surprised by the revelation.

Revealing their reactions on the Today show ahead of Meghan and Harry’s Royal Wedding in May 2018, Rick Hoffman, Sarah Rafferty and Gina Torres shared the words of advice they gave their former co-star about her new relationship.

Rick, who played Louis Litt on the show, said it was a surprise when he first found out.

“I had gotten the news early, and I was like, ‘You got to be kidding me’. And it was like, both of us in the trailer like, ‘Oh my. You’re going – you’re dating a prince?’”

After the initial news sunk in Rick was quick to share his advice, telling Markle: “I was just like, ‘Well, take it slow. Be careful. Don’t let him hurt you’.”

Meghan and Harry first started dating in 2016 after being set up on a blind date by a mutual friend, before the news eventually made it into the press the following October.

Harry later proposed to the actress in November 2017, which saw her leave her role as Rachel Zane after seven seasons.

“[She said] that he’s lovely. You know, they’re a great match,” Sarah added. “We worked so many years together on a show.

“We were with each other for longer than we went to college or high school. We became family in a way. We’re still family. This is a wonderful family affair.”

“We knew she was excited. And there was reason to keep it, you know, close to the vest,” Gina added.

Suits would run for two more seasons after Meghan left, before ending in 2019.

The series has been a hit amongst fans on Netflix since it landed on the streaming site, with the show topping the top 10 most watched list for a month in 2023.

Fans were also recently given hope for the idea of a Suits reunion movie, after series star Patrick J Adams refused to rule out the idea of the cast reprising their roles for one last time at a recent panel on 2 June.

Speaking to FEMAIL!, Lady Campbell said, “I know the Duchess of Sussex has political ambitions and I’ve been told that one day she wants to run for President. In an interview with The Sunday Times, she said that Meghan has ‘squandered’ the ‘most wonderful opportunity’ by leaving the royal family.  She also mentioned that there were signs that Meghan would ‘not adjust’ to life as a royal after her wedding to Prince Harry in May 2018. The writer heard that Meghan had apparently asked to leave after having her photo taken because she was ‘bored’. Talking about it she said, “We were all horrified. And the 79-year-old also told hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley about his complicated relationship with his daughter in the exclusive chat.

Thomas said he was desperate to be reunited with his grandchildren and thought it was “cruel” he was being denied this by Meghan.

On his grandchildren he said: “I’m heartbroken. I am very upset. This is a cruel thing to do to a grandparent – to deny the right to see a grandchild.

“In California I can actually sue to see them but I don’t want to do that.

“The other thing is I’ve done nothing wrong. There’s nothing that points to say I’m a bad guy.

“I’m a really loving father and she knows that, and there’s no excuse for treating me this way – no excuse to treat grandparents that way.”

 

 

Thomas said that despite spending countless years with his daughter, he “never saw the kind of woman she turned into”.

He added: “She’s not the person I knew as my daughter.”

And Thomas claims Meg has more power in the relationship than Harry.

When asked whether he thought the Duke was to blame, he said: “I think she has influence on Harry more than he does on her.”

Meghan, 41, and her dad’s relationship has been strained since she married into the Royal Family in 2018.

But Thomas added that he was sorry for anything he had done wrong and that he would be there for Meghan “forever”.

He said: “I am always here for her, I still love her – I’ll love her forever.

“That will never change but I want her to reach out to me and let me see my grandkids and let me have a little peace.

“People go to prison for five years and they’re forgiven – I didn’t do anything. So forgive me I guess.

“I would always apologise for anything I’ve done wrong. I’m sorry if I have.”

Thomas also opened up about his own health battles, and explained he was managing his recovery following a major stroke last May.

The retired Hollywood lighting director was rushed to hospital after suffering a massive stroke at his home in Mexico last year.

And he claims that the Duchess of Sussex made no effort to contact him while he suffers from ill health.

Chatting back in February 2019, he made the admission in an interview with an Australian magazine.

He told Who magazine: “I do want to say, they’re just chasing Meghan Markle everywhere.

“She’s a woman who is seven months pregnant and she has been pursued and vilified and chased in the same way that Diana was.

Thomas Markle issued another public plea to his estranged daughter.

While Meghan Markle hasn’t spoken with her father in years, Thomas is desperate to meet his grandchildren – Archie and Lilibet, the two children Meghan shares with Prince Harry. In a new interview, Thomas went as far as to suggest that he could sue the couple for the right to see the little prince and princess.

Thomas, who struggles with speech after suffering a stroke last year, told “Good Morning Britain” that he hadn’t seen Meghan and Harry in five years, and that the last time they spoke was when he was hospitalized ahead of their 2018 wedding.

“I still haven’t seen my grandkids,” he said, “and that’s what this is about. I want to see my grandkids, and I think the king would like to see his grandkids as well.”

He is, of course, referring to King Charles, who also has an estranged relationship with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

When asked if he felt heartbroken over the state of his relationship with his daughter, he agreed, adding, “I’m very upset as well because this is a cruel thing to do to a grandparent, not just to me but to the king of England as well.”

Thomas was asked what message he’d like to pass along to his daughter, and he answered, “Put the past behind us, let me see my grandkids. In the state of California, I can actually sue to see them, but I don’t want to do that.”

Celebrity divorce lawyer Christopher C. Melcher, partner at Walzer Melcher & Yoda, told Fox News Digital that Meghan’s father may not be so lucky when it comes to filing a lawsuit to see Archie and Lilibet.

“Grandparents may have legal rights to visitation in California, but the court must balance that request against the fundamental right of the parents to decide who can see their child,” Melcher said.

Citing California Family Code sections 3104 (b), Melcher said, “There is no right for a grandparent to sue for visitation over a grandchild while the parents are married.”

He added, “When the parents have separated, and they jointly oppose the visitation request by the grandparent, the court must presume that the visitation is not in the best interests of the child.”

Melcher clarified, “Thomas Markle has no right to sue for visitation in California because Harry and Meghan are married. Only if Harry and Meghan [separate] could Thomas apply for grandparent visitation but, if Harry and Meghan jointly opposed the request, the court would deny the visitation.”

“For Thomas to threaten court action to see his grandchildren is not the way to have a relationship,” Melcher said. “Harry and Meghan have the right to decide who sees their children, and the remarks by Thomas validate their decision to exclude him.”

Thomas said he’d “done nothing wrong” and that he was a “really loving father,” which he said Meghan knows.

“There’s no excuse to treat me this way,” he said. “There’s no excuse to treat the king that way as well … no excuse to treat grandparents that way.”

He also called himself a “victim” because he’d been “set up” to look bad before Meghan and Harry’s wedding – he maintains that he hasn’t done anything wrong.

Thomas went on to say that as he was raising Meghan and keeping in touch with her through her young adult years, “I never saw the kind of woman she turned into. I’m shocked to this date to tell you that because she’s not the person I knew.”

He wasn’t sure if Harry or Meghan was to “blame” for her change in behavior, but regardless, he said that he loves her and will love her “forever.”

“Let me have a little peace,” he said. ” Forgive me, I guess.”

He also said that Meghan and Harry live in their home in California like recluses and that he believes it would be best for the children to move back to England and reclaim their rightful spots in the royal family.

For years, Meghan’s father has been begging her to get back in touch with him, and she clearly has no interest. During her 2021 interview with Oprah, she stated that he’d “betrayed” her by speaking with tabloids.

She said that she couldn’t “imagine doing anything to hurt my child,” adding, “I can’t reconcile that.”

Real reason Prince Harry’s friends never ‘warmed’ to Meghan Markle laid bare

Prince Harry reportedly had a hard time introducing his friends to Meghan Markle in the early days of their whirlwind relationship, it has been claimed.

Prince Harry’s friends never “warmed” to Meghan Markle when they were first introduced at the start of her relationship with the royal, claims royal expert Richard Eden.

In his column for Daily Mail, Mr Eden wrote that Meghan failed to make a good impression when she was first introduced to Harry’s friends as “not all of them warmed to the American actress”. Harry’s friends reportedly found it very hard to find common ground with the “politically correct America” and couldn’t see eye-to-eye with her.

Most recently, Harry was noticeably absent from his friend, the 7th Duke of Westminster’s wedding last week.

Mr Eden wrote: “When Prince Harry started introducing new girlfriend Meghan Markle to his closest pals back in 2017, not all of them warmed to the American actress.

Prince Harry might regret “losing touch” with his old friends for a new life with Meghan Markle in the US, a royal commentator has claimed.

It comes as another royal expert claimed the duke misses being part of the Royal Family, after his recent visit to the UK back in May.

Harry returned to his home country to attend a special 10th-anniversary celebratory service for the Invictus Games at St Paul’s Cathedral.

The prince was welcomed by crowds cheering him on as he entered the cathedral, with shouts of “we love you Harry” being heard.

It was that instance that made Harry realise what he is missing out on having given up royal duties – meeting the public, according to royal author Tom Quinn.

 

He told the Mirror: “The one part of being a working role that Harry really misses is the chance to meet the public – however insecure he feels as a royal, he has always felt totally secure as a celebrity.”

Her Majesty attended the Queen’s Reading Room Literary Festival at Hampton Court Palace, where she met and spoke to a number of authors and actors, including Sir Ian Rankin, Ann Cleeves, Miriam Margolyes, Elizabeth McGovern, Harlan Coben and Emily Giffin.

During the engagement, Mr Coben, a world-renowned American thriller writer introduced the royal to Emily Giffin, an 11-time best-selling writer, who said she was Camilla’s “biggest fan” and had to sleep “on the streets”, just to get a glimpse of her during her Coronation in May 2023.

Ms Giffin took a bow as she greeted the Queen, and apologised on behalf of Mr Coben who failed to bow before shaking the royal’s hand.

But the laid-back royal had the perfect response to it as she said she too would also be “horrified” if she was in her position before bursting into giggles.

Mr Coben initially introduced Ms Giffin to the Queen saying: “I just want to introduce you to number one New York Times best-selling author Emily Giffin who is your biggest fan – and she is so excited to meet you.”

Ms Giffin told Camilla: “It is an honour of a lifetime. I came over for your Coronation. I just so admire you.

The Queen replied: “You came over?” with the writer replying: “Yes I slept on the street for two nights… it was an honour of my lifetime.”

She thanks the royal for hosting the festival and all the “wonderful work you do”.

But she also shared she once trained Mr Coben on Royal Family etiquette. The crime author admitted to “messing up” remembering the rules, with Ms Giffin apologising for his mistake.

She told Camilla: “He’s very sorry that he didn’t bow before he shook your hand”. Camilla then said: “I’d be horrified if I was you” and burst into a giggle.

The writer later wrote on her Instagram page: “Still pinching myself to have met Queen Camilla. Her Majesty was so warm and charming, and I have such admiration and appreciation for all that she is doing to encourage reading and support authors. This moment was a dream come true, and I will be forever grateful to her wonderful staff.”

The Queen’s literacy festival at Hampton Court took place for a second year.

Camilla launched The Reading Room on Instagram in January 2021 and the project was relaunched as charity The Queen’s Reading Room in February 2023.

It also has a podcast whose second series guests included Good Omens and Stardust author Neil Gaiman and Withnail And I actor Richard E Grant.

Andrew Morton says Prince Harry didn’t contact him to listen to secret recordings of Princess Diana despite the Duke’s memoir being a ‘homage’ to his late mother.

Princess Diana author Andrew Morton has said he was shocked Prince Harry didn’t ask to listen to secret tapes of his mother for his memoir.

The author has spoken previously of how Diana’s friend, James Colthurst, would act as an intermediary, using Mr Morton’s questions to interview the princess, recording her answers and delivering the tapes to the author.

Diana revealed multiple suicide attempts, details of an eating disorder and the relationship between King Charles, then Prince of Wales, and his then mistress, Camilla Parker Bowles.

Reaction to the book was explosive, as members of the public previously believed Charles and Diana were enjoying a fairytale marriage.

The work’s emergence features in season five of The Crown, which dramatises a break-in at Mr Morton’s home and Diana suspecting her rooms were bugged.

The veteran royal reporter and author compared his book about Diana with Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare – which was ghost-written by J.R. Moehringer – in an appearance on royal podcast Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered.

He said: “One of the things that struck me about [Spare] was neither Harry nor J.R. Moehringer contacted me to say, ‘Can I listen to my mother talking? Can I listen to the tapes?’

“I would have thought I would be the first port of call for Harry because his memoir is very much an affectionate homage to his mother, from page one to the last page.”

Mr Morton pointed to references to Diana in Spare, including Harry’s visit to a psychic, his drive through the Pont de L’Alma in Paris where his mother was involved in a car crash which led to her death in 1997 and the Duke’s revealing he doesn’t make decisions unless he has considered what his mother would say.

The author of Diana: Her True Story said its publication was a watershed moment for the monarchy, which he said was challenged to think hard about its purpose in the wake of the book hitting the shelves.

Asked if The Firm did learn lessons, he said: “I think they certainly pivoted after the Diana book came out… For the first time in a generation people asked themselves, what is the monarchy for?”

He added that the same question applies today after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Harry’s stepping down as a working royal and Prince Andrew cast out of the inner circle.

Pointing also to King Charles and Princess Kate’s cancer diagnoses, Mr Morton said: “It’s a transformative time.”

On Harry’s bestselling memoir, he commented: “I found the book quite a touching memoir. Obviously, we have the fisticuffs with William, but, quite frankly, if being pushed towards a dog bowl is the height of brotherly antipathy they have a lot more to learn.”

Harry claims in Spare that he fell onto a dog’s bowl after Prince William pushed him in a row over the Sussexes’ future. Kensington Palace has not responded to that allegation or any others levelled against the Waleses in Spare.

Mr Morton said there were points in the book where he felt the ghost writer holding Harry back from criticising the press, which the prince has vowed to purge.

He added: “For me, it was the relationship with his mother that was the most striking aspect of [Spare] and how his mother’s death transformed his thinking, transformed his life and made him the man he is today.”

The writer added that when critics seek to blame Meghan Markle for how Harry has turned out, he disagrees. He told the podcast: “This is something that has been preying on his mind for many, many years.”

Asked what Princess Diana would have thought of Meghan, Mr Morton said she would have been impressed by the Duchess of Sussex’s public speaking abilities, given her ambition to be a good public speaker.

He added: “The irony is she was possibly on the cusp of going to the west coast of America herself. She loved America. She loved Americans. So I don’t think she would have been particularly critical of the route Harry and Meghan have taken.

“As for Meghan, she is someone who has made her second son very happy and who adores him, and vice versa. It’s a marriage that seems to work. That’s one of the main things any parent wants for their children – that the partner they have is someone who loves them, is kind and is thoughtful.”

The Hollywood star said the way the tabloids have treated Meghan Markle is reminiscent of Princess Diana, and “history is repeating itself.”

George Clooney sees an eerie and dangerous parallel in the way the tabloid media has treated his friend Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and the way it attacked the late Princess Diana.

The Hollywood star spoke out against what he believes is “irresponsible” treatment of the former Meghan Markle, whose relationship with her estranged father, Thomas Markle, has continued to play out in the press since she married Prince Harry last summer.

George Clooney has come to the defense of his friend Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, saying the tabloid treatment of her is reminiscent of Princess Diana.

“I do want to say, they’re just chasing Meghan Markle everywhere,” he told Australia’s Who Magazine on Tuesday. “She’s been pursued and vilified.”

He sees the press treatment of the Duchess, who is pregnant with the couple’s first child, as reminiscent of the relentless coverage that Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, faced before her death at 36 in 1997 in a car crash in Paris.

Diana was in a car that was speeding away from paparazzi at the time of the crash, which French authorities found was caused by the intoxication and reckless driving of driver Henri Paul.

“She’s a woman who is seven months pregnant and she has been pursued and vilified and chased in the same way that Diana was, and it’s history repeating itself,” Clooney said about Meghan. “We’ve seen how that ends.”

Clooney lashed out against the media back in 1997 after Princess Diana’s tragic death.

“Princess Di is dead, and who should we see about that? The driver of the car? The paparazzi? Or the magazines and papers who purchased these pictures and make bounty hunters out of photographers?” he said at the time. “If you weren’t hiding behind the profession of journalism, you would be an accomplice to a crime, and you would go to jail.”

Clooney is the latest to publicly defend Meghan against reports criticizing any little aspect of her public appearances or speculating about tension in the royal family due to her behavior. A group of friends spoke in her defense to People magazine last week, and fellow royal Tessy Antony, Princess of Luxembourg, has tweeted her support of Meghan.

Over this past weekend, Meghan’s father revealed a heart-breaking, hand-written letter to Britain’s Mail on Sunday that Meghan allegedly wrote him three months after the wedding. Thomas Markle did not attend the nuptials in the wake of a controversy over staged paparazzi photos, with Prince Charles instead stepping in to walk Meghan down the aisle in her father’s absence.

In the emotional letter, she begs him to “stop lying and creating so much pain” and says his actions have broken her heart into “a million pieces.”

Clooney took issue with the decision to publish the private letter.

“I can’t tell you how frustrating that is, just seeing them broadcast a letter from a daughter to a father,” he said. “She’s getting a raw deal there and I think it’s irresponsible and I’m surprised by that.”
