The Boys in the Boat director George Clooney and his wife Amal have reportedly grown apart from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, five years after the Sussexes invited the Hollywood couple to their Royal Wedding.

George Clooney hit the headlines last summer as rumours swirled that his high-profile friendship with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had fizzled out. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s 2018 wedding unveiled the union of two power couples, as George and his wife Amal Clooney arrived to celebrate the Sussexes’ nuptials in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

However, just a few years later, the Ocean’s Eleven actor, 62, was at the centre of reports that he had “ditched” the Royal couple as “bosom buddies”, according to sources. As George steps behind the camera as director for his latest film The Boys in the Boat, Express.co.uk has taken a look back at the Hollywood icon’s friendship with Meghan, 42, and Harry, 39, before things seemingly cooled down.

The world first became aware of the connection between George and former Suits actress Meghan when he and wife Amal, 45, received an invite to the wedding of the century. After watching Meghan and Harry tie the knot, the Clooneys attended the newlyweds’ private party at Frogmore House.

Despite appearances, it was subsequently reported that the Clooneys had claimed to a fellow wedding guest that they “didn’t know” Meghan and Harry. Boris Johnson’s sister Rachel wrote for AirMail at the time: “There’s a story doing the rounds that while Carolyn Bartholomew, Diana’s former flatmate, was waiting for the wedding service to start, she turned to the couple alongside her and asked how they knew Harry or Meghan.

“‘We don’t’, the Clooneys answered brightly.” In spite of the baffling remark, Meghan reportedly went on to grow closer to human rights barrister Amal after the wedding. “Meghan and Amal have known each other for a while [and share] many interests,” a source claimed to People Magazine in 2018.

“Amal has been helping Meghan settle into London life. It was a very natural friendship from day one.”

Later that same year, it was also claimed that Harry and Meghan flew to Italy’s Lake Como for a vacation, where they visited George and Amal at their lavish holiday home.

Omid Scobie also claimed that Harry and George had bonded over their mutual passion for motorbikes.

“George and Harry have a shared passion for motorcycles and checked out George’s collection and they also played basketball together,” the royal journalist revealed.

Sarah, Duchess of York has finally spoken out about the rumours of a second Royal wedding with Prince Andrew. The Duchess of York – who was married to the late Queen’s second son from 1986 until their split in 1992 and subsequent divorce in 1996 – is mum to Princess Beatrice, 35, and Princess Eugenie, 34, with her former spouse.

Despite divorcing, Sarah and the Duke have continued to share their home, Royal Lodge, on the Windsor Estate, where Andrew’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother resided.

Even though their close relationship post-divorce has sparked whispers of a potential romantic reunion, Sarah has firmly stated that remarriage is not on the cards.

In an open conversation with Bella magazine, she disclosed: “I get asked that all the time. We are very happy as we are now, thank you!”.

Life under the intense royal spotlight has been a whirlwind for the 64 year old author and charity advocate, with a host of untrue stories about her. She remembers one particularly outrageous claim that left a lasting impression on her.

Fergie shared: “My life changed forever on 23 July 1986 when I married into the Royal Family. Of course, being in the public eye constantly brings challenges, but also great privileges. I hope I have used whatever platform I have to bring about some good, particularly in terms of my charity work,” reports the Mirror.

When asked about the most absurd rumour she’s heard, she replied: “Goodness, quite a lot of nonsense has been written over the years. One of the worst headlines was ’82 per cent would rather sleep with a goat than Fergie.’ It’s never left me.”

Fergie has vowed to always “be there” for Prince Andrew, honouring a promise made to the late Queen. During her appearance on ITV’s Loose Women, Sarah Ferguson discussed standing by Andrew during his “darkest times”, stating: “We are longer divorced than married and I believe in the three C’s communicate, compromise and compassion.”

She went on to talk about their strong connection: “That’s what I do with (Andrew.) We get on because, in the darkest time of my life, he was always there for me. In the darkest time of his life, I will be there for him. The Queen of England was there for him his mum.”

Sharing a heartfelt conversation she had with Her Majesty, Sarah said: “I said to his mum before she died, ‘I will be there for him, I will help him on his journey,’ we’ve all got journeys; we just need to be there with kindness and no judgement.”

Sarah also stood firm in her support for Andrew, whom she called a “good man”. Even after their split, the two still co-habit at the Royal Lodge in Windsor. Not only does Sarah maintain a strong bond with Andrew post their divorce, but she also had a very close friendship with the Queen, who sadly passed away last month aged 96.

Stepping into a responsibility dear to the Queen’s heart, she has been looking after the royal’s beloved corgis Sandy and Muick, gifts from herself, Andrew and their daughters initially.

Princess Charlotte seems to have captivated Taylor Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce and his brother, Jason, during their meeting backstage after the superstar’s concert in London last week.

The Prince of Wales had a special way of celebrating his 42nd birthday last Friday, as he attended the singer’s hugely anticipated Eras Tour concert at Wembley Stadium with his two eldest children, Prince George, 10, and Princess Charlotte, 9.

Prince William’s “dad-dancing” skills went viral on social media after he was caught on video “shaking it off” to Taylor Swift’s homonymous song. But it was his selfie backstage with the singer herself and his children that stole the show.

After Kensington Palace posted a selfie from backstage, showing Taylor crouching next to the royals and taking a photo on her phone, the singer posted her snap on social media, wishing the heir to the throne a happy birthday.

The image featured Taylor, William, George and Charlotte, as well as the singer’s boyfriend, NFL star Travis Kelce.

And it looks like his brother, Jason, who was also at the concert, was in the special royal meeting backstage too.

Talking on their podcast, New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce, Jason talked about how Charlotte made the biggest impression on him, explaining: “I gotta say, Prince William was fantastic when I met him, but the highlight was Princess Charlotte.

“She was so f****** adorable. I don’t know, maybe it’s because I have three girls now.

“She had fire to her, she was asking questions.”

George Clooney revealed the shocking reason why he spurned and humiliated Meghan Markle and Prince Harry

Meghan Markle, Prince Harry Reportedly “Humiliated” After Being Snubbed By George and Amal Clooney

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s 2018 wedding was the social event of the year, with A-list stars and dignitaries from across the globe in attendance.

Among the celebrities on hand were George and Amal Clooney, who had developed a close friendship with the Sussexes in the months since they announced their engagement.

Unfortunately, it seems that the two couples have drifted apart in recent years.

Perhaps it’s the fact that they now live on separate continents, or maybe there was some sort of secret falling out.

Whatever the case, much is being made of the fact that Harry and Meghan were not invited to the second annual Albie Awards, a benefit event hosted by the Clooney Foundation for Justice in New York City last month.

“Of all the snubs they’ve had to deal with since their move to Hollywood, this is probably the most hurtful [to Harry and Meghan],” one insider told the National Enquirer (via Radar Online).

“George and Amal went from being their wedding guests and trusted confidants to totally ghosting them.”

Yes, it turns out even mega-famous members of the royal family can be ghosted.

As an actress, Meghan likely encountered her fair share of rejection, but this sort of snub is probably new to Harry.

And it seems that the Sussexes are not taking it well.

“It’s a huge kick in the teeth and a massive embarrassment they can’t really explain or wrap their heads around,” the insider added.

“The gala would have been a dream event for the two, but George and Amal knew only too well the circus that follows them would have ruined it for others.”

Yes, the event comes at a time when Harry and Meghan are attempting to rebuild their public image following a string of bad press.

Being spotted at an A-list charity event would provide exactly the sort of boost that Harry and Meghan need to help them reclaim their place at the top of the global celebrity totem pole.

The snub comes as a shock, as the Clooneys previously spoke quite highly of the Sussexes.

“We live not too far from one another and we have dinners and stuff and we’re friends with them for all the reasons that you’re friends with anybody,” George told the Daily Mail in 2020.

“They’re just really nice, fun, kind people, they’re a very loving couple, and they’re going to be great parents.”

We may never know exactly what caused the two couples to drift apart.

But it’s possible that as UK residents, George and Amal have decided that their loyalty lies with the Windsors.

Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet could help “forget bitter rows of the past” between Prince Harry and King Charles, an expert has claimed.

Having grandchildren is a “powerful tug on the heartstrings” and Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet may be a “compelling link” between Prince Harry and King Charles to reunite, an expert has claimed.

Ever since Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, relocated to the United States, their relationships with the Royal Family have been publicly strained. This is particularly true after the publishing of Harry’s explosive memoir, Spare, and the interview between the couple and Oprah Winfrey where allegations were made against the Firm.

As a result, Archie, five, and Lili, three, have hardly spent any time with their grandfather, King Charles. Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond says: “Little people who are part of your bloodline and have had nothing to do with family quarrels and tensions. Utterly innocent tiny tots who deserve to know and love their grandparents.”

Ms Bond suggested the young children could help end the royal feud.

She added: “So I can imagine that the King very much wants the chance to get to know Archie and Lilibet and to create some memories for them. The children may provide the most compelling link between Charles and Harry, and convince them both to forgive, if not forget, the bitter rows of the past.”

Jennie also hopes Harry does not follow Meghan’s example and becomes “obdurately estranged” from his family. Thomas Markle, Meghan’s father, became estranged from her after he was unable to walk her down the aisle for her marriage to Prince Harry. Thomas and Meghan have a strained relationship which came to a head after Thomas tried to collaborate with paparazzi to stage several photos before her wedding day.

Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence said Princess Anne is “recovering slowly” as he left a Bristol hospital after visiting his wife.

The Princess Royal, 73 is spending her fourth day in hospital after being injured by a horse on Sunday evening.

She is being treated for concussion and minor head injuries after the incident, which took place while she was walking on her Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucestershire.

Her husband spent two-and-a-half hours with Anne today and left the main Brunel building at Southmead Hospital just before 2pm.

Asked whether Anne would be being discharged from the hospital on Wednesday, he said: “She’ll be out when she’s ready.”

Anne had two visitors yesterday, from her husband and her daughter, Zara Tindall.

Sir Tim rocked up with a cool bag for his wife, which he said was full of “a few little treats from home”.

He told reporters that: “She’s doing fine, slow but sure.”

In a conversation with a well-wisher outside the hospital, Anne’s husband of over 30 years gave a more detailed comment. He said: “She is recovering well, thank you.

“We are both profoundly grateful to the medical team and hospital support staff for their expert care – and to the emergency services who were all so wonderful at the scene.

“We are both deeply touched by all the kind messages we have received from so many people near and far. It means a great deal.”

Anne’s medical team said her head injuries were consistent with a potential impact from a horse’s head or legs.

As the “hardest working royal” takes time to heal, her duties this week been postponed. She was due to attend the state banquet to mark the start of the Japanese state visit last night, and sent her apologies for missing the lavish event.

A trip to Canada planned for the end of this week has also been postponed.

Princess Lilibet’s relationship with the royal family is worse than we thought! While Prince Archie was born in May 2019, before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their positions as senior royals

Princess Lilibet's Relationship With The Royals Is Worse Than We Thought

, his sister was born over a year later, in June 2021, and it’s made a world of difference. Although Lilibet was fortunate enough to meet her great-grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, before her death in September 2022, her parents’ ongoing feud with the royal family has significantly decreased her ability to mingle with her royal relatives on the other side of the pond, including her similarly aged cousins.

For example, Prince Archie was able to enjoy several royal milestones before his parents severed ties with the Firm, including posing for royal photographs during his Christening and even meeting Kate Middleton and Prince William’s kids a couple of times. But Lilibet has walked a different path.

Queen Elizabeth even refused to sit for a photograph with the princess and her family at their first meeting during the Platinum Jubilee in 2022. The late monarch blamed her decision on a bloodshot eye, despite Prince Harry’s push for the special moment. In reality, the late queen was reportedly not feeling the Sussexes’ public lashings of the royals.

Princess Lilibet's Relationship With The Royals Is Worse Than We Thought

Unfortunately, this isn’t the only time Lilibet has gotten the short end of the stick.

While no one would mistake Prince Archie and his cousins, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, as best friends at this stage of life, the prince actually got to mingle with Prince William and Kate Middleton’s children before their parents’ issues interrupted their chance to form sound foundations.

Princess Lilibet, on the other hand, has had fewer chances to get close to her cousins. Although William and Kate congratulated her parents on her birth in a statement, they, along with King Charles III and Queen Camilla, rebuffed the invitation to attend her Christening, which took place in March 2023. Of course, William and Kate’s kids were also no-shows at Lilibet’s Christening.

The decision not to attend came nearly a year after Us Weekly reported that William and Kate didn’t exactly welcome Lilibet into the royal fold when she and her family attended Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee. “William and Kate made no effort at all to introduce Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis to [Lili],” shared royal author Christopher Andersen with the publication in June 2022. He continued, “As far as I know, nobody believes they spoke [to one another] during the celebrations.” Worse, the Jubilee took place one day after the royals chose not to attend Lilibet’s first birthday party, which Harry and Meghan threw at Frogmore Cottage in the U.K.

Prince Harry was left “absolutely furious and in tears” following the eviction from Frogmore Cottage, a Royal expert has claimed, shedding light on the Sussexes’ distressing experience.

Over a year ago, in March 2023, after Prince Harry’s explosive memoir ‘Spare’ was published, it emerged that King Charles had requested his son and daughter-in-law Meghan Markle to leave Frogmore Cottage. This reportedly incensed Harry.

A source informed The Standard at that time: “The Sussexes are no longer leasing Frogmore Cottage. That privilege has been removed.”

Additionally, the source mentioned: “It’s over for them in the UK. If they want a residence in the UK they will have to buy one privately,” reports the Mirror.

Subsequently, in June 2023, Meghan and Harry returned the keys to Frogmore Cottage, with their belongings being transported to California.

    Prince Harry

Royal commentator and writer Tom Quinn told the Mirror: “Harry was absolutely furious and in tears about being evicted from Frogmore he felt his father had no right to do it and that it was purely vindictive.”

Quinn further explained that Harry failed to understand how stepping down as a working Royal would naturally lead to losing his Royal home, interpreting the move as a “cruel rejection” by his father, King Charles III.

Mr Quinn revealed: “Harry took it as a cruel rejection a painful reminder of all that he felt when his father fought with his mother during their long drawn out, painful divorce.

“Whenever Charles puts his foot down, it seems unfair to Harry who feels that after everything that has happened to him, he should always get whatever he wants whether that be security paid for by the British taxpayer or a luxurious UK home.”

He summarised his insights stating: “For many Harry is just a poor little rich kid behaving like a spoiled brat, but Harry sees himself as the eternal victim.”

The Duke of Sussex has seen himself frozen out of family engagements – but as he weighs up buying a UK home, he allegedly wants to ‘fix the feud’

Prince Harry’s estrangement from the Royal Family and subsequent omission from Princess Kate’s grand return to public life has “hammered home” how “he’s a proper outsider”, a source has claimed.

The Duke of Sussex – who has not featured as a working royal for upwards of four years at this point – was not invited to Trooping the Colour festivities earlier this month, and was “left upset” by having to watch Kate’s return from his Southern California home, the source claimed.

Harry would have “done anything” to be invited to the King’s official birthday celebrations, the source continued, and would have allegedly even gone alone – sidelining the under-fire Duchess of Sussex in the process.

The prince’s last appearance at the annual event had come in 2022, and while he jetted to the UK in the wake of his father the King’s cancer diagnosis, he’s seen himself frozen out of family engagements even further, with a source telling the Daily Beast that his brother William has instigated an “absolute ban” on Harry returning to the fold.

Prince Harry/Princess Kate and Prince Louis

A royal insider told Closer magazine: “He’s heartbroken and confused by the way they’ve cut him off and seemingly haven’t given it another thought.

“Harry was very upset and emotional when he saw the footage of Kate at Trooping the Colour.

“He’s been so worried about her ever since he received the news of her condition, and whilst he has managed to connect with her on a few occasions it’s not nearly as often as he’d like.

“He would have dearly loved to have been there, if only to congratulate and support Kate in person on what must have been an incredibly difficult day for her.”

Royal Family on balcony at Trooping the Colour

The source talked up Princess Kate’s “stoic, brave face” as she emerged from her course of preventative chemotherapy to greet crowds of well-wishers at Horse Guards Parade on June 15.

But they lamented the prince’s plight, saying: “The fact he’s got to watch on TV or via the internet from 6,000 miles away just made him so sad… It really hammers home how he’s a proper outsider at this point.

“He’s incredibly proud of her and encouraged that she obviously has very good doctors and appeared to be healthy and in good spirits.

“But the fact he can’t bond with his beloved sister-in-law in person is a kick in the guts and something he finds incredibly difficult to live with.”

    Prince William and Prince Harry

Prince William has allegedly instigated an “absolute ban” on Harry returning to the fold

The Princess of Wales had won plaudits for stepping out at Trooping the Colour, with royal biographer Angela Levin praising Kate for “doing it for her family”.

Her appearance at the event had followed the optimistic but measured statement prepared by Kensington Palace which declared that she was “making good progress” – but counselled that she was “not out of the woods yet”.

In the statement, released the day before Trooping the Colour, Kate wrote: “My treatment is ongoing and will be for a few more months. On the days I feel well enough, it is a joy to engage with school life, spend personal time on the things that give me energy and positivity, as well as starting to do a little work from home.

“I’m looking forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet.”

    Matt Porteous

But amid the optimism on Kate lies the rumblings of a royal feud between the Waleses and Sussexes; the source alleged to Closer that Harry is in the process of buying a new UK home, and is longing to be welcomed back into the family to put the row to bed for good.

The source added: “He’s consumed with the idea that he can throw himself at his family’s feet and fix this feud.”
