The One Show star Alex Jones previously lifted the lid on husband Charlie’s battle with depression and how it affected her and their three young kids.

Alex spoke with refreshing honesty as she candidly explained how her struggles coping with Charlie’s breakdown left her feeling “sick”, due to her previous attitude about the topic.

The BBC star discussed the topic on the How To Fail podcast with Elizabeth Day back in January 2023.

Alex explained how her husband Charlie, who she married nine years ago, began to struggle after he was diagnosed with Lyme disease, then battled viral meningitis.

Lyme disease is a bacterial infection that can be spread to humans by infected ticks and due to the fatigue it causes can also trigger anxiety, irritability and depression.

The One Show host admitted it caused him to become a “shadow of himself”. She also shared: “He was so ill, he really went downhill fast mentally. And I found myself at a loss thinking, oh my God. I don’t know what to do here?”

‘It knocks you for six’

Speaking on the podcast, Alex explained: “It knocks you for six as a family and as you say, not just the person going through it but the person that then has to deal with the fallout of the whole thing. It’s full on.”

Alex also discussed the difficulty in helping care for a loved one struggling with mental health issues. “Not with Charlie necessarily but, you know, my past experience and I didn’t realise it but I couldn’t help that person.

“Now I feel so sick about it, because, I mean, it was debilitating for him.”

Alex also admitted: “I was stuck in my mum’s mindset of ‘Oh for goodness sake, come on. Can we not get on with it? I feel down some days, it doesn’t mean I’m depressed. Come on, tomorrow’s gonna be better.’ And I feel awful for just being like that. Whereas now we understand it a lot more.”

She confessed about her husband’s battle: “I thought I was losing him, as in not actually losing him. But I thought, oh my God, where is he? I can’t see him.

“I was looking at him and I’m thinking, I’m looking and hearing somebody who’s not my husband.”

Meghan told Knauf via email: ” Do you know how frustrating it is for me personally to have someone as my stylist? Because the only thing I seem to have control over and decide for myself is creating my own fashion style .”

When Meghan reportedly sent a brief note to secretary Knauf for him to pass on to Finding Freedom authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, Meghan reiterated that she did not have a royal stylist of her own.

 

The revelations come after Meghan told Oprah Winfrey in a shocking interview in March that she felt trapped by the royal family. The duchess also admitted to having suicidal thoughts when she was five months pregnant with Archie and was forced to hand over her passport, driving licence and car keys to the royal family.

It can be said that, through the above messages, Meghan shows that behind the doors of the royal palace are conflicts and disagreements in life views as well as the way of operating and solving problems in the life of the Sussexes with the royal family. Mr Markle told ITV’s Good Morning Britain: “I realised it was a serious mistake but it was hard to take it back.

“I had been seen as a negative for an entire year and I wanted to improve my look.”

Mr Markle was unable to attend the wedding due to suffering a heart attack just days before the big day but, heartbreakingly, he has not seen Meghan since.

Multiple sources who’ve worked with Markle said she put on a lot of weight with both pregnancies and has finally lost the weight she gained with daughter, Lili, which accounts for her newly fit-and-fab style.

One told The Post she has not changed her face as she “loves” her nose and even contours it and uses bronzer to highlight it. Of course, she did change her hair color — and Botox and some lip fillers are likely, one source added.

If you’re anything like me, you start most days by making yourself a big cup of tea and searching the internet for the latest news on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. And this morning, you learned that the royal duo have been harassing old people. A quick skim of the headlines revealed that Meghan and Harry “snubbed their elderly Navy veteran neighbor” with their “rude response” to his “sweet gesture.”

Shocking if true! But much like the dubious claim that the couple tried to hitch a ride on Air Force One and the divorce rumor that turned out to be partly based on Harry going on a work trip, this story falls apart upon further investigation.

Unlike the sources in many royal gossip stories, this elderly Montecito, California, neighbor definitely exists and he was willing to go on the record. Frank McGinity is an 88-year-old U.S. Navy veteran who “lives a tiara’s toss or two from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle,” as the Montecito Journal put it. The “globetrotting accountant” just published an updated edition of his book Get Off Your Street, which recounts his travels on all seven continents and describes his failed attempt to make contact with Meghan and Harry. Per the New York Post:

In his memoir, “Get Off Your Street,” McGinity alleged that he approached the couple’s home to give them some of his homemade films about local history.

“I have a big house next to Harry and Meghan’s property and I live in the guest house while renting the main house out on Airbnb,” he said …

“Harry and Meghan live on old McCormick property and I went up to their gate with the films on a CD, but they weren’t interested,” he claimed.

He said the security guard wouldn’t let him past the gate.

“The gate guy turned me away and wouldn’t take the film, just saying ‘They’re not interested.’ I was trying to be neighborly.”

It’s sweet that McGinity wanted to welcome the royals to the neighborhood. But this “snubbing” is actually a story about a security guard doing his job. It’s unclear if Meghan and Harry even heard about this incident before it was added to the public accounting of their allegedly rude behavior.

There have, of course, been sporadic reports of Meghan and Harry indirectly annoying their Montecito neighbors in the past. They moved to their current home in July 2020, and within weeks TMZ reported that locals were “fed up” with the influx of paparazzi even though the town is already home to several huge stars including Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres.

“They definitely have brought a lot of attention to my sleepy little town,” Rob Lowe, who has lived in Montecito for decades, told E! back in 2021. “Let me tell you something: Once the royals move into your neighborhood, the neighborhood is never going to be the same.”

Lowe might have spoken too soon. The U.K.’s Daily Express reported this week that the couple are considering abandoning Montecito for Malibu, which is much closer to Los Angeles and far more celebrity-filled. Meghan signed with the top-tier L.A. talent agency WME in April.

“Being close to Beverly Hills and LA where the deals are done is smart,” a source told Express.

“And of course there is a real Malibu scene where major stars, producers and studio executives all hang out, socialize and get deals done during dinner and beach parties,” they added. “Certainly Prince Harry and Meghan would be welcome at many major parties and would be desired guests.”

Well, maybe. If there’s any lesson to be drawn from the “snubbing” report, it’s that unprovoked neighbor drama will likely follow Harry and Meghan wherever they go.

I worked in Santa Barbara for a year, and it’s a money town. Montecito is the rich neighborhood of a rich town, so you can imagine the kind of money it takes just to live there.
