  • Why Daniel Craig Got The Bond Role Over Henry Cavill, According To Matthew Vaughn

Why Daniel Craig Got The Bond Role Over Henry Cavill, According To Matthew Vaughn

Matthew Vaughn says he knows more about why Daniel Craig was cast as James Bond over Henry Cavill.

The role of James Bond on the big screen is one of the most coveted in film. When the role is available, as it is now, the talk surrounding who it could be is nearly endless.

Henry Cavill is one of the names that is being thrown around now as a potential successor for Daniel Craig, but Cavill competed with Craig for the role the last time it was up for grabs, and it sounds like he may have gotten closer to it than even he realized.

Cavill and his Argylle director Matthew Vaughn were interviewed by Sirius XM recently and asked about their respective Bond ambitions. Vaughn, like Cavill, has reportedly been considered to direct Bond films in the past, and possibly the future as well.

Vaughn answered the question by revealing that he was working at Pinewood Studios around the time the Bond decision was being made, and the fact that Cavill was a finalist for the role led Vaughn to cast him in another movie. The director explained…

It was really bizarre because, when Henry was auditioning for Bond, I was at Pinewood [Studios], and Daniel was as well, at the same time, and I’d go off and meet with Daniel and he’d say what’s going on.

He says there’s this young guy Henry Cavill I think they’re seeing as well. And we hadn’t done Stardust yet. But that’s how you came into my radar. I was thinking, well who’s this guy who got down to the last two for Bond? So that’s how I discovered you.Henry Cavill’s role in Vaughn’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Stardust, isn’t too big, but it was the actor’s most prominent role to that point, so it probably is fair to say that Vaughn “discovered” Cavill.

However, it sounds like Casino Royale director Martin Campbell was almost the one to do the discovering, as Vaughn claims Campbell actually preferred Cavill to Craig, but it was franchise producer Barbara Broccoli who made the final call. Vaughn continued…

And I know that the director preferred your audition, but Barbara [Broccoli] preferred Layer Cake. And they decided you were too young. And I probably shouldn’t have said that, but the Broccolis aren’t that keen on me anyway, so what have I got to lose?

But he would be excellent. But it’s unfair for him to discuss about a project that he might be involved with or not and ruin it because of a question.

The idea that Henry Cavill was too young for Bond at the time has been said before. Cavill himself was told that he got close, but that his age was a factor. However, the idea that Campbell actually preferred Cavill, if true, is a bit of new information. It’s clear from watching Cavill in the interview that this is news to him.

Vaughn throws himself on the Bond question, and potentially ends any chance he has of directing a Bond movie in the process, specifically so that Henry Cavill doesn’t answer it, as it is possible that any answer Cavill gives on his Bond aspirations could have an impact on those aspirations.

Cavill has indicated that he is still interested in playing Bond and if he got that close to being James Bond last time, he must have a strong shot at it now. We’re still waiting on that answer, but perhaps we’ll learn who the new James Bond will be in 2024.

  • Zack Snyder’s movie will eliminate Henry Cavill to choose a new actor

Zack Snyder’s movie will eliminate Henry Cavill to choose a new actor

Zack Snyder’s James Bond pitch can in no way feature the 40-year-old Henry Cavill as its lead

After venturing into the superhero genre and cultivating a devoted fanbase for his films, Zack Snyder has set his sights on another dream project. Snyder expressed his desire to direct a James Bond film and even revealed a pitch idea for the spy film.

Interestingly, this pitch might disappoint fans hoping to see Henry Cavill in the role of Agent 007.

Zack Snyder on the sets of Rebel Moon

The Justice League director wants to explore the story of a much younger James Bond in his 20s. While Snyder’s vision for the character appears promising, the reception for his last few films, including the recently released Rebel Moon, has been largely divisive.

Zack Snyder May Not Cast Henry Cavill As James Bond If He Were To Direct It

Zack Snyder wants to make a James Bond film which will not include Henry Cavill

Zack Snyder is eyeing another pre-existing IP after his work on the DC movies. The Man of Steel director is currently busy launching new franchises for Netflix with projects like Army of the Dead and Rebel Moon. These projects have received mixed to negative responses, but fans still have faith in Snyder’s visionary projects.

During an interview with The Atlantic, Snyder revealed that he wants to pursue one more franchise before venturing into original projects. The Batman vs. Superman director wants to direct a James Bond movie. His revelation comes at a convenient time since the franchise is looking for a new director and actor to overhaul the franchise after Daniel Craig departed from the iconic role.

Snyder even revealed his pitch to the news outlet, sharing that he would likely explore a storyline featuring a 20-year-old Bond entering the world of espionage. This pitch may leave Henry Cavill fans disappointed since many have rooted for the actor to take over the role ever since Craig’s exit after No Time to Die. Interestingly, Cavill was the second-in-line when Craig grabbed the role in Casino Royale.

Zack Snyder shared that his story will explore the humble roots of the spy agent. The pitch focuses on the trauma in Bond’s life that led him to choose a path with MI6. Snyder told The Atlantic:

“It’d be cool to see, like, 20-year-old James Bond. The humble roots that he comes from. Whatever trauma of youth that makes you be able to be James Bond. There has to be something there.”

Snyder’s pitch would be something new for James Bond fans, as the youngest actor to take on the role was George Lazenby, who was 29 during his single movie appearance in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.

The rumors surrounding the new James Bond actor continue to circulate the internet, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Henry Cavill being two prominent choices.

James Bond Producers Do Not Agree With Zack Snyder

    Daniel Craig as James Bond

James Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have clarified on several occasions that a James Bond Jr. reboot is not something they find feasible. Explaining it at a BFI event in September 2022, Wilson shared that they had considered younger people in the past for the role. However, it did not work since Bond has always been conceived as a seasoned veteran with years of field and wartime experience. Wilson shared at the event (via Deadline):

“We’ve tried looking at younger people in the past. But trying to visualise it doesn’t work. Remember, Bond’s already a veteran. He’s had some experience. He’s a person who has been through the wars, so to speak. He’s probably been in the SAS or something.”

Wilson also clarified that they were not considering any actor over 40 for the next James Bond. Casting director Debbie McWilliams was not in favor of younger actors either, as she believed that they lacked the gravitas, experience, or mental capacity to shoulder such a massive responsibility. (via Radio Times). Interestingly, McWilliams was the one who picked Daniel Craig for the iconic role.

It is up to Zack Snyder to convince the studio to cast younger actors with his pitch. No Time to Die and other James Bond movies are now available for streaming on MGM+.

Kick-Ass helmer Matthew Vaughn pitches a new Superman movie, but with Henry Cavill back in the suit.

Matthew Vaughn Wants to Adapt a Popular Superman Comic With Henry Cavill

Matthew Vaughn, who directed the Kick-Ass movies and X-Men: First Class, spoke about his desire to make a Superman film in a Post Credit Podcast interview. After touching on the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow movie that’s in the works at DC Studios, Vaughn was asked about the Superman: Red Son comic book series penned by his pal Mark Millar. The Elseworlds comic book imagines how Superman would be different if he were from the Soviet Union instead of the U.S., and Vaughn noted how its story has only gotten more relevant since its initial publication in 2003. He then imagined doing a Red Son film with his Argylle star Henry Cavill playing a variant of his Man of Steel character.

“I thought Red Son was one of the cleverest comics I’d ever read, and the current world we’re living in, it’s certainly become a lot more relevant because ignorance causes more issues, and I think the more we learn about Russia and the Russian history,” Vaughn explained. The director then added, “Wow, could you imagine remaking Red Son with Henry Cavill? That would be an interesting movie…”

While James Gunn has cast David Corenswet to play the DCU’s Man of Steel in Superman: Legacy, it’s not impossible for Matthew Vaughn to direct a Red Son film. That’s because there will also be DC movies made under the Elseworlds branding that will be separate from the events of the DCU. Gunn recently confirmed that a standalone Superman film from J.J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates is also still in the works, despite Superman: Legacy’s production. The question is if Gunn and fellow DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran would want a third Superman film happening anytime soon, especially with Henry Cavill, who’s moving on with Highlander and Warhammer 40K after hanging up the cape for good in 2022.

Matthew Vaughn and Mark Millar Pitched a Superman Trilogy

This isn’t the first time Vaughn has pitched a Superman project. The director previously shared how he teamed up with Superman: Red Son writer Mark Millar to pitch a trilogy of Superman movies to Warner Bros., and this was before Man of Steel was made with Henry Cavill. Vaughn said that the studio wasn’t interested and the idea went no further, though he didn’t explain what he and Millar had in mind for this particular trilogy of movies.

Meanwhile, the next Man of Steel will be taking flight on the big screen next year, as Superman: Legacy will be released in movie theaters on July 11, 2025.

  • Henry Cavill’s role fails despite Dua Lipa’s participation, predicting Argylle’s box office revenue

Henry Cavill’s role fails despite Dua Lipa’s participation, predicting Argylle’s box office revenue

The Matthew Vaughn directorial is all set to release on February 2 and features stars such as Bryce Dallas Howard and John Cena.

Henry Cavill is all set to star in Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming spy comedy Argylle. The actor plays the titular spy, Argylle, in the film, a fictional character written by Bryce Dallas Howard’s fiction writer Elle Conway. Conway is pursued by a secret organization whose activities the writer seems to have predicted in her books.

Apart from Cavill, the film stars Sam Rockwell, Dua Lipa, John Cena, Bryan Cranston, and Samuel L. Jackson. Despite the loaded star cast, the film seems to have less than stellar projections, with Deadline reporting that the film will be seeing  $20 million and above opening. These low numbers united haters of Henry Cavill into trolling him online.

Henry Cavill’s Argylle Gets Decent Box Office Projections

    A still from Argylle

Henry Cavill’s first role since his exit from the DCU and The Witcher will be in Matthew Vaughn’s spy comedy Argylle. The film sees him play the role of a super-spy, much like James Bond, who is a figment of writer Elle Conway’s imagination. The film is an original that is set to be turned into a franchise much like Vaughn’s Kingsman franchise.

However, Deadline reported that the film might make more than $20 million when it opens on February 2. The studio behind the film is reportedly comparing Argylle’s release with that of the Channing Tatum and Sandra Bullock starrer Lost City and Vaughn’s Kingsmen films, giving it a projection of more than $35 million. However, the entertainment portal compared the release to that of Jessica Chastain’s The 355, giving it a projection of $20 million.

    A still from Argylle

Since the film is an original and not a film based on an existing IP or a sequel of an established franchise, the portal opined that the film might have a slow beginning, with positive word-of-mouth increasing ticket sales. Henry Cavill’s Argylle opens two weeks before Valentine’s Day weekend, which sees Madame Web and One Love: Bob Marley releasing. These films might give stiff competition to Argylle when two weeks after release.

The portal also opined that the film’s release came at a time when the box office was slow and would only pick up with the year’s first big release, Dune: Part Two. The Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya starrer opens on March 1st and is a sequel to 2021’s Dune, based on the legendary novels of Frank Herbert.

Argyle’s Box Office Projections Draw Hate For Henry Cavill Online

    Henry Cavill as Superman

Though Henry Cavill has a worldwide fanbase due to his role as Superman in Zack Snyder’s DCEU and his role as Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s Witcher, he has yet to give a solid box office blockbuster. Henry Cavill’s last film which was released in theaters, was his cameo in Black Adam, was a box office bomb, and so was Night Hunter. His Enola Holmes series were direct Netflix releases and so were Zack Snyder’s Justice League and Sand Castles.

Henry Cavill gave box office successes only in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Mission Impossible: Fallout. But, both the films were legacy sequels starring other stars such as Ben Affleck as Batman in the former, and Tom Cruise in the latter. Cavill’s previous spy venture The Man from U.N.C.L.E. was a box office bomb, earning only $110 million against a $70 million budget. The original Justice League too failed to break even at the box office.

Due to his tarnished legacy at the box office and the less than stellar box office projections for Argylle, Henry Cavill has been garnering much hate online, with many trolls calling him a ‘flop actor’. While the actor has his own supporters, Argylle could seemingly decide how much Henry Cavill can actually pull off at the box office.

  • Henry Cavill’s Epic Surprise at CinemaCon: A Glimpse into Highlander Revival!

Henry Cavill’s Epic Surprise at CinemaCon: A Glimpse into Highlander Revival!

Las Vegas’ CinemaCon 2024, where studios and their theatrical partners present a look at the year ahead is officially underway.

Henry Cavill had a great time teasing audiences about how exciting and action-packed his upcoming Highlander movie reimagination will be when it’s finally released.

    Henry Cavill And Highlander

“If you thought you’d seen me do swordwork before, you haven’t seen anything yet,” Henry Cavill about Highlander said while speaking at one of the many sessions at CinemaCon today.

John Wick director Chad Stahelski will helm Henry Cavill’s new Highlander film, and Michael Fassbender has been onboarded to play the role of the Mongol in the new movie.

For those who are fans of the original Highlander movies, the Mongol’s early death in the film suggests that the reboot will be much different from the original.

    Michael Fassbender’s Mongol?

From just watching the Highlander movies, you wouldn’t know much about the Mongol, except that he and The Kurgan (arch nemesis of Connor MacLeod) were the last two highlanders alive at the end of a battle on the Asian steppes hundreds of years ago.

The Kurgan swiftly beheaded The Mongol and used his Quickening to pinpoint Connor’s exact location in the first film.

If Henry Cavill is set to play Connor MacLeod in Highlander and the studio brings in someone like Michael Fassbender to play the Mongol, then the Mongol will likely have a slightly larger role in the reboot than he did in the original films.

However, very little is known about the full cast of the movie.

    Loving The Original Highlander

Henry Cavill talked more about his experience with the Highlander movies, saying, “I’m a lover of the original movies, for better or for worse, and it’s one of those things where when I was reading the script for the first time I wasn’t quite too sure where they were going to go with it.”

He went on to discuss how the new film grants a much more thorough investigation of the story’s characters and the lore behind it all, saying that the first movies only “touched on the lore … but my goodness, me oh my, we are going deep into these characters” with the new movie.

    Fans Will Be Pleased?

“What they’ve done so far and we’re doing with the development of the script is extraordinary, I think people are going to be really, really pleased,” Cavill added.

Only time will tell whether or not the Henry Cavill reboot of Highlander brings anything new to the saga. The film has reportedly just begun shooting, but there is no final release date on the table yet. The long-awaited reboot movie will likely drop sometime next year.

    The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare

In the meantime, Henry Cavill is working on more than just Highlander at the moment. In The Grey, a film with Cavill, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Eiza Gonzalez, directed by Guy Ritchie is set to be released next year. Cavill can also be found in another of Guy Ritchie’s upcoming films, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.

Big Expectations For Henry Cavill In Highlander

You can rest assured, there’s no shortage of Cavill on the big screen in the upcoming year.

Let’s hope he’s honing his sword-fighting skills, so the Henry Cavill Highlander is a little less 80s than the original.

  • “Have you seen anything”: Henry Cavill still keeps practicing his sword, promising crazy things for The Immortals

“Have you seen anything”: Henry Cavill still keeps practicing his sword, promising crazy things for The Immortals

There is a great desire to immerse ourselves in the universe of Los Inmortales again.

The saga starring Christopher Lambert will return after many years of waiting, but this time it will be Henry Cavill who takes charge of the project that Chad Stahelski will direct.

“You haven't seen anything yet”: Henry Cavill hasn't stopped training with the sword and promises crazy things for The Immortals

We already know some details about the project, such as the return of the legendary Queen soundtrack, and now it has been the performer who has delved into his preparation for the role. During CinemaCon, Cavill confessed that his mastery with the sword will go much further from what we have seen so far in him.

“I’m a lover of original movies, for better or worse. And it’s one of those things where, when I first read the script, I wasn’t really sure where they were going to go with it. But, my God, What we’re doing with this is we’ve only touched on the lore of the first films. We’re delving into the meaning of these characters, and their various trials and tribulations. And also, if you thought you’d seen me work with swords before, you haven’t. “I haven’t seen anything yet, I promise.”

It won’t be the first time Cavill has held the sharp steel with both hands, since he was already able to demonstrate his skill throughout the seasons of The Witcher series on Netflix. The performer, who has participated in films such as Mission: Impossible – Fallout or Man of Steel, has no problem with the action scenes.

We will see what the old Superman has in store for us, since the main dynamic of the fantasy franchise is that the immortal characters annihilate their fellow humans by decapitating them with a sword. Stahelski has pointed out that will pay tribute to the original productionsbut he has also made it clear that he will go further with a bet that will be released, predictably, in 2026.

    Alexandra Daddario is playing coy.

As the brunette beauty prepares for the premiere of Baywatch on May 25, it’s no secret fans are wondering what’s really going on between Alexandra and co-star Zac Efron. The pair posed for an undeniably flirty photo at the 2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards, but as she revealed to E! News’ Jason Kennedy, it’s (probably) strictly business.

“I don’t know that I started it,” she dished, referring to the rumors.

“We work together closely; he’s my love interest in the film. I understand why people would go crazy over something like that, but Zac and I are very good friends,” Alexandra clarified.

‘Justice League’ Star Henry Cavill Jokes About Controversial Superman Mustache at CinemaCon

A mustache that can kill Superman!

by ANTHONY SINGLETARY on APRIL 10, 2024

CinemaCon just keeps delivering Superman news! Henry Cavill joked about his infamous Justice League mustache during the event.

The production of Justice League was one of the most chaotic in cinema history, being the beginning of the downfall of Zack Snyder’s DC Extended Universe. One of the most joked-about parts of it is Henry Cavill’s mustache. Having been filming Mission: Impossible – Fallout during reshoots for the project, Warner Bros. had to CGI his facial hair off for his scenes as Superman, leading to hilariously uncanny results.

Henry Cavill’s mustache in Justice League has been the butt of jokes from DC fans for over half a decade at this point. Now it seems even Cavill is getting some jabs in. During a recent appearance at CinemaCon, the former Superman actor commented on his changing facial hair, reminiscing on “a controversial mustache at one stage that nearly ruined my career.”

Henry Cavill’s future as a superhero

Even though Justice League flopped and DC has officially recast David Corenswet as Superman, that doesn’t mean Henry Cavill’s days as the Man of Steel are officially over. Director Matthew Vaughn has expressed interest in making a Red Son Elseworlds film starring the actor, giving him one last shot at the iconic role.

Henry Cavill also has prospects outside of DC and Superman. Recent rumors suggest that the actor is attached to a mystery role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While fans have speculated everything from Wolverine to Captain Britain, no official word has been said about the Justice League star potentially joining the MCU.

Superman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
