Henry Cavill’s Best Performance Was In a Netflix Movie You’ve Never Heard Of

No, Henry Cavill’s best role is not Superman or Geralt of Rivia.

To say that the last couple of years have been tumultuous for Henry Cavill would be a vast understatement. After stepping out of his role in The Witcher (one of Netflix’s biggest hits), Cavill announced his return as Superman after his cameo at the end of Black Adam. However, the new direction that DC and Warner Brothers are taking does not allow Cavill to return, and he won’t be returning to The Witcher, either, as he’s been replaced by Liam Hemsworth.

These aren’t the only instances where Cavill has been denied a franchise; The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’s box office disappointment ended a potential saga before it could begin, and Cavill lost out on the role of James Bond to Daniel Craig.

While the actor is by no means out of work, with roles in this year’s espionage film Argylle and Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Cavill’s often a much better actor than he’s given credit for, as he proved in the underrated 2017 Netflix filmSand Castle.

‘Sand Castle’ Features Henry Cavill’s Most Underrated Performance

Cavill has always had a gravity to him that differentiated him from other movie stars of his generation. He’s shown his versatility in supporting roles, such as his stone-cold seriousness in Mission: Impossible – Fallout and his comedic slant on the world’s greatest detective in Enola Holmes. However, Cavill has been hyped up as a leading man so much that these character parts are few and far between.

It’s likely that the legions of fans who clamored for his return to the DCEU haven’t even heard of Sand Castle, but then again, almost no one has. Sand Castle was released to little fanfare during a time when Netflix would essentially barely promote its projects and discard them from the main page after their first week of release.

However, there’s a value in Cavill taking a chance on this smaller film — he gets to show his darker side, humility, and ability to elevate those around him. While there are many films about the Iraq War that have attempted to summarize the lessons learned from “the war on terror,” Sand Castle has a general sense of bleakness that Cavill latches on to. He gives one of the performances of his career as Captain Syverson, a veteran Special Forces operative who gradually becomes aware of his irrelevance.

    Image via Netflix

Sand Castle takes place amidst the early stages of the post-9/11 conflict and explores the perspective of the civil affairs soldier Private Matt Ocre (Nicholas Hoult), a young recruit who can already tell that his service isn’t worthy of any accolades. Ocre fears the man he might end up becoming if he spends another decade overseas, and he attempts to injure himself as a means of getting sent home with an honorable discharge.

Ocre’s failure to do so results in his introduction to Syverson, a battle-weary “career man” who is now stuck in an unenviable position of leading humanitarian efforts. In his performance, Cavill gets to embody all the pent-up anxieties that Ocre has been dealing with.

While Cavill is often cast in roles of men who are responding to duty with bravery, Sand Castle’s Captain Syverson is an interesting example of a character whose optimism has already been squashed; he knows that this work won’t win him any acclaim, but he knows that it is dangerous nonetheless.

The grim, brooding nature of Cavill’s performance as Clark Kent in the DCEU films felt out of touch for such an optimistic character, but it’s perfectly utilized here. If Cavill’s Superman was a little too aware of his savior-esque role in society, Syverson lives in depression that he will never be remembered.

Henry Cavill Does Not Play a Hero in ‘Sand Castle’

There have been countless attempts to recapture R. Lee Ermey’s iconic role in Full Metal Jacket, but Cavill adds a refreshing new slant on a sergeant welcoming new recruits. Syverson is blunt, and while he’s not particularly abusive, he doesn’t offer inspirational speeches to inspire his men.

There aren’t many details shared about Syverson’s early life or goals in Sand Castle, which was the perfect way to show his distance from Ocre. Ocre feels divorced from meaning during his service, and he doesn’t get any from Syverson. It’s the perfect type of slightly removed performance that embodies the bleak nature of Sand Castle.

Rather than anything that would show off his physicality, Syverson is given the task of filling a pump station in an Afghan village with water. It’s a grueling task, and in what almost feels like a note of self-awareness on Cavill’s part, he feels like his talents are being wasted.

If Cavill’s Superman never really felt like a hero, Syverson is openly met with contempt. Even if he dies working towards saving this village from poverty, the locals will never view him as a hero. This is particularly evident in his conversations with the local village leader Arif (Nabil Elouahabi), who condemns the military’s failures to protect civilians from enemy fire.

Captain Syverson Is Henry Cavill’s Most Disturbing Role

We also get to see Henry Cavill portray a disturbing complexity in Sand Castle that’s absent in his blockbuster roles as his character hints at his growing xenophobia and self-hatred. Despite being British, Cavill’s characters are often symbols of the American spirit, whether they’re superheroes, super spies, or CIA agents.

Syverson shows the dark side of democracy as he angrily condemns the local civilians with racist comments. During one of the most disturbing scenes, Syverson speaks to a local who cannot understand him and delivers an offensive tirade, showing how racism has infected all corners of American culture.

It’s often said that people like Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise are “character actors in a movie star’s body,” but Cavill has not often been given the chance to show that he’s more than a marquee idol. Following his performances in Argylle and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, it would be exciting to see Cavill take a chance on more things like Sand Castle, and hopefully, the role will stand as a precedent and not an anomaly in his career.

Sand Castle is available to stream on Netflix in the U.S.

  • Jake Gyllenhaal returns to DCU to fulfill his unfinished dream at the age of 19

Jake Gyllenhaal returns to DCU to fulfill his unfinished dream at the age of 19

Jake Gyllenhaal becoming the DCU’s new Batman would vindicate the iconic actor following a missed opportunity 19 years ago.

Although Robert Pattinson is playing the Caped Crusader in Matt Reeves’ isolated The Batman trilogy, DC Studios’ imminent DC Universe reboot will need a new actor to play the Dark Knight in their upcoming movie, The Brave and the Bold. To that end, Gyllenhaal is one of many names that have been proposed by fans in recent months.

Not only does Jake Gyllenhaal look the part to play Bruce Wayne, but he also has the experience to bring one of DC Comics’ most popular superheroes to life. Similarly, it certainly helps that the actor himself has commented about his interest in the role, as well as the fact that he nearly played Batman almost two decades earlier. Keeping that in mind, there are several reasons why Jake Gyllenhaal is such a strong contender to play the DCU’s new Batman in the near future.

Here’s every new DC movie confirmed as in development by WB for 2024 and onwards, including release dates and where they belong in the franchise.

Jake Gyllenhaal Lost The Batman Role To Christian Bale In 2005

A Testament To His Future Dark Knight Potential

2005 saw the release of Batman Begins, the first chapter of Christopher Nolan’s legendary Dark Knight trilogy. Much like Matt Reeves’ current The Batman trilogy, Nolan’s movies were set in their own universe and world, offering a more grounded take on the Caped Crusader and his mythos. To that end, actor Christian Bale was cast to play Batman in Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, though he wasn’t the only actor who was heavily considered for the iconic superhero role.

Ironically, Katie Holme’s Batman Begins character Rachel Dawes was recast by Maggie Gyllenhaal in 2008’s The Dark Knight (Jake Gyllenhaal’s sister).

Jake Gyllenhaal was also in the running to play the Dark Knight in Batman Begins before the role ultimately went to Bale. However, it’s recently been revealed by Gyllenhaal himself that he received a personal call from Nolan, a testament to just how close Jake Gyllenhaal came to being the live-action Batman of the 2000s. However, perhaps the time has finally come for Gyllenhaal to don the cape and cowl on the big screen now that a brand-new version of Batman is being developed, one connected to the wider DC Universe that’s currently in the works.

Jake Gyllenhaal Getting The DCU Batman Role Would Vindicate Him

The Actor Would Be Honored To Finally Get The Role

Jake Gyllenhaal has recently commented on his missed Batman role as well as how honored he’d be if he were to get a new chance to play the Caped Crusader. Speaking with ScreenRant during the press tour for 2024’s Road House, Gyllenhaal referenced the classic nature and legacy of the Batman role and how he’d have to overcome the intimidation that inherently comes with it:

“That’s the first level. That’s what I’m working on right now. But of course. It would be an honor always. Those types of things and those roles are classics.”

Gyllenhaal later doubled down on his Batman comments, confirming that he would be both honored and flattered to receive a new chance to be cast as Batman in the future with the DCU’s upcoming Brave and the Bold:
“One interview… I knew it… Someone asked me and… Of course, I would be flattered. Anyone would be.”

While other Batman candidates have been proposed by DC fans such as Reacher’s Alan Ritchson or Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles, Gyllenhaal is certainly a top contender due to past considerations where he nearly got the role in Nolan’s trilogy, combined with his own interest in tackling the legacy DC Comics character.

$7.8 billion franchise rejected Henry Cavill also said no to Steven Spielberg twice

Despite his acclaim and success, Steven Spielberg met with rejection from the James Bond franchise!

Steven Spielberg Faced Rejections From the James Bond ProducerSteven Spielberg has shared that he is a “huge [James] Bond fan.” And during a conversation on Michael Ball’s BBC Radio 2, the filmmaker revealed that he even approached the franchise’s producer to direct a James Bond film.

    Steven Spielberg’s Jaws

He shared that after Jaws became a huge hit, he reached out to producer Albert R. Broccoli and expressed his desire to direct a James Bond film. However, his offer was turned down with Broccoli telling him that he was not “right for the part.” Spielberg recalled,

I called Cubby Broccoli twice, and after Jaws which was such a huge phenomenal success, I thought, ‘Hey people are giving me final cut now. They’re offering me all kinds of movies and the first movie I wanted to make was a Bond film—But he didn’t think I was right for the part.”

However, it was not the only time he approached and got rejected. The filmmaker once again offered to direct a Bond film following the release of his 1977 sci-fi drama Close Encounters of the Third Kind. But was rejected once again.

Steven Spielberg Claimed James Bond Producers Can’t Afford Him Anymore

Steven Spielberg’s 1977 sci-fi drama Close Encounters of the Third Kind was a huge hit, grossing over $300 million on an estimated budget of $20 million. And the film’s success prompted him to once again extend his offer to direct a James Bond movie.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind

But the producers rejected his offer once again, arguing that he was still not ready to helm a James Bond film. He shared,

“I twice tried to get on a Bond film and even after Close Encounters [of the Third Kind] came out and was a big hit, once again, I tried to get on a Bond film, didn’t think I was ready for the part.”

When asked if he would accept such an offer now, the Oscar-winning filmmaker argued that the franchise cannot afford him anymore. “Now they can’t afford me,” he said. However, he did share who he would like to see as the British spy after Daniel Craig. “Idris [Elba] would be my first choice,” he said.

While the Luthor star has been in talks to be the next James Bond alongside the likes of Henry Cavill, Tom Hardy, and others, the role has reportedly been offered to the 33-year-old actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson for the future installments in the franchise.

Can the qualities of heroism actually permeate into one’s being in real life? It seems that this is the case for Henry Cavill and Superman. The charismatic star who portrayed the iconic DC superhero, is still considered by critics and fans as the best choice for the role.

While the actor will not don the Superman cape anymore after his exit from the franchise, it looks like he is not letting go of the character’s courage and heroism.

The Witcher star is all set to appear on the big screen in April in Guy Ritchie’s World War 2 film, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare along with Alan Ritchson, Eiza Gonzalez, and Alex Pettyfer who make up the ensemble cast.

While Cavill’s colleagues were all praise for his humble and welcoming attitude on set, Pettyfer was additionally indebted to him for literally saving his life. Speaking to ET, the star narrated what went down.

“He saved me from falling off a boat. I nearly drowned! So I can officially say I’ve been saved by Henry. And I’m very grateful to be on this film with you.”

Pettyfer also spoke about the British actor’s enthusiasm on set and his dedicated efforts to ensure that the film was a success. More significantly, he pointed out the lack of hierarchy in his approach despite obviously being number one on the call sheet owing to his superstardom.

Fans Hail Henry Cavill As Superman In Real Life

With his arresting personality and impressive performance, Henry Cavill made audiences and critics believe that he was Superman. The actor also took this heroism and applied it to real life when he saved his colleague Alex Pettyfer from a potentially disastrous accident on the sets of their World War 2 film.

While Pettyfer expressed his immense gratitude to the former DC alum for his selflessness, fans of the actor are now hailing him as Superman who is walking on Earth. Netizens took to social media to express their awe and admiration for Cavill and his brave actions following this incident on set.

While Cavill’s Argylle did not make much of an impression at the box office, Guy Ritchie’s much-awaited World War 2 flick The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare looks to be tailor-made for the actor’s sensibilities. Audiences across the world are eager to see this actor-director combination set the screens on fire.

The actor happens to be a real-life gentleman.

Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare’s shooting process for some has turned out to be quite a challenging experience — and it’s not exclusively about the plot. A fellow actor of Henry Cavill who stars in the brand new film has revealed that the latter actually saved their life.

Cavill’s co-star Alex Pettyfer, talking about the movie in one of his recent interviews, admitted that Henry Cavill had prevented him from falling off a boat thus saving Pettyfer from drowning.

The actor expressed his gratitude towards the brave colleague and also unveiled a sweet message that Cavill had sent him before they started working on The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare — two weeks prior to the start of the shooting Alex Pettyfer received an email from Henry Cavill which said “I’m excited to collaborate with you”.

Set to be released in the US on April 19, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is Guy Ritchie’s new spy action comedy film starring (except Alex Pettyfer and Henry Cavill) Elza González, Alan Ritchson, Henry Golding and many others.

The upcoming movie is partially based on real historical events and takes most of its plot from Damien Lewis’s book that significantly fictionalized the real storyline.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare may become a kind of salvation for Henry Cavill after his latest film, Argylle with Bryce Dallas Howard and Dua Lipa in the cast, has suffered a total defeat in the box office, despite a seemingly promising plot.

Legend James Bond rejected Henry Cavill, choosing the MCU star in the spy franchise worth $7.8 billion

Aaron Taylor-Johnson Reportedly Set to be the Next James Bond

Over the years, several actors have taken on the role of the titular spy in Ian Fleming’s cinematic adaptation of James Bond. From Sean Connery to Daniel Craig, fans of the spy franchise have witnessed different actors delivering their take on the role.

But after Craig’s exit from the franchise, it created a big mess, and even producer Barbara Broccoli opened up about their struggles of finding the next suitable star.

However, recently, that very struggle reportedly came to an end, after insiders revealed that Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been officially offered the role, which he is yet to accept.

Speaking with The Sun, sources noted how the spy franchise finally landed their eyes on the MCU actor, who is set to be the next James Bond, once he accepts the role.

Although previously, A-listers like Henry Cavill and Cillian Murphy were making headlines for their alleged fan casting as 007, it seems Aaron Taylor-Johnson was the one finally destined to be Bond.

But while the rumor is making circles online, it seems no one is immune to weighing in on the possibility. Even former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan appears to feel the same way.

Pierce Brosnan Addresses Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Rumored Casting

Speaking with The Ray D’Arcy Show on RTÉ Radio 1, Die Another Day actor Pierce Brosnan was asked about his opinion on Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s casting as James Bond, when he simply threw his support behind the MCU star.

Although Brosnan previously endorsed Oscar-winning Oppenheimer star Cillian Murphy for the role, the actor now appears to have changed his tune on the matter.

“I think the man has the chops and the talent and the charisma to play Bond, very much so. One of the first movies we made, one of the earliest movies, was The Greatest. And he was the greatest in it. So, yes, I read the news about his possibilities of being a Bond, so I would definitely tip my hat to the fellow.” Brosnan said of Johnson.

Recalling his 2009 movie The Greatest, where he worked alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Pierce Brosnan claimed that the actor has it in himself to do justice to the role assigned to him.

Brosnan and Johnson’s collaboration in the 2009 project came as one of the earliest films, from the GoldenEye actor’s production company Irish DreamTime. Therefore, addressing Johnson’s work in the movie, Brosnan lauded his performance.

Shifting his previous pitch from Cillian Murphy and shrugging off Henry Cavill‘s alleged fan casting as James Bond, Pierce Brosnan hailed Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the next 007 in the $7.8B franchise (via The Numbers).

Further, as the former Bond star was asked about his advice to Johnson ahead of his appearance as the titular spy, Brosnan noted, “be bold. Go out there. Have a great time.

Just love it, just go for it. You can do it.” Although Johnson has not confirmed or denied his involvement in a new Bond project, fans appear hopeful after Brosnan appreciated the actor.

The James Bond film collections are available on Hulu.

Real-life superhero Henry Cavill did not hesitate to save his co-star from the clutches of death

It seems when Henry Cavill isn’t busy protecting the world, he is saving his fellow actors from ‘falling off boats’!

As if we needed another reason to adore Henry Cavill, the talented actor recently made it clear that he is indeed a real-life superhero. While filming a scene for the soon-to-be-released Guy Ritchie film, The Witcher star saved his co-star Alex Pettyfer from a potentially hazardous situation on the set.

Pettyfer recently spoke with ET about how fun it was to work with Cavill on The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and mentioned that Cavill even saved his life from drowning:
“He saved me from falling off a boat. I nearly drowned! So I can officially say I’ve been saved by Henry. And I’m very grateful to be on this film with you.”

Henry Cavill in a still from Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare

Pettyfer also discussed the Stardust star’s excitement on the set and his efforts to turn the film into a box-office success. More than anything, the former emphasized that there was no “hierarchy” in Cavill’s approach:

“He [Henry Cavill] brings a humbleness to the set with everyone.”

With a cast that includes Cavill, Pettyfer, Alan Ritchson, Eiza González, Cary Elwes, Henry Golding, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, and others, the upcoming movie is sure to impress. With reference to the Enola Holmes star, Tiffin, 26, shared:

“Gentleman is the right word, for sure. And it’s because he has an unwavering commitment to the cause and energy and consistency and mood.”
Also, it is interesting to note that Ritchie and Cavill, who previously worked together on The Man from U.N.C.L.E., are teaming up again for the Lionsgate spy action comedy flick.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare: What Else You Must Know

The plot, details on characters, and Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare history are currently being withheld. However, it is touted as a factual account based on Damien Lewis’ book of the same name, which follows the story of a secret World War II combat organization. Guy Ritchie, the director, co-writes the screenplay with Paul Tamasy, Eric Johnson, and Arash Amel.

Henry Cavill in the first look from The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare

Jerry Bruckheimer, the film’s co-producer, previously shared with Collider:

“Ministry is precisely what cinemas need right now – larger-than-life entertainment with the incredible talent on both sides of the camera and an unbelievable true story.”

Cavill, who most recently acted in Matthew Vaughn’s flick, Argylle, revealed on Instagram in April that he had wrapped up filming The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. He captioned the photo as follows:

“It’s rare to come across a team so driven, dedicated and committed to the storytelling. That drive and dedication is only intensified by having a leader such as Guy Ritchie. His ability to weave story and create character might be second to none, and he wields it like it were magic.”

Despite the limited information about the flick, fans are enthusiastic because of its intriguing premise and delightful cast. Even though it is unclear if The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare will be the hit that Cavill needs, Alex Pettyfer’s latest narrative highlights what a valuable presence the Man of Steel star is on set.

The release date of The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is April 19, 2024.

  • Milly Alcock’s Supergirl gets a new look by David Corenswet in the new DC universe

Milly Alcock’s Supergirl gets a new look by David Corenswet in the new DC universe

Following the reveal of David Corenswet’s Superman logo in the DC Universe, new art sees Milly Alcock’s Supergirl get the same House of El symbol.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow star Milly Alcock suits up as Kara Zor-El, carrying the same logo as David Corenswet’s Superman in DC Universe fan art. James Gunn’s DC Universe is on its way, with the new Superman movie kicking off principal photography last month, setting up for Corenswet bringing the next live-action version of the DC icon to life on the big screen.

However, Clark Kent won’t be the only popular Kryptonian featured in the DC Universe, as Alcock has been cast as his cousin Kara, a.k.a. Supergirl.

In late February, Gunn officially revealed a first look at the Superman movie costume by unveiling the DC Universe’s version of the House of El symbol. While the general public eagerly awaits seeing a full shot of Corenswet in his suit, Jobhutz shared artwork of what Alcock’s Supergirl could look like with the same logo as Corenswet’s Superman.

The version of the infamous S-shield that is being used for Gunn’s Superman movie is pulling from Mark Waid and Alex Ross’ beloved DC storyline, Kingdom Come. Whether or not Alcock’s Supergirl will have the same logo or not is unclear at this point.

Milly Alcock has been cast as Supergirl for DC Studios’ upcoming DCU, and she can learn some valuable lessons from previous incarnations of the hero.

When Will Supergirl First Show Up In The DC Universe?

While Alcock’s initial announcement was for the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow movie, the House of the Dragon star may be showing up in the DC Universe a bit earlier than that. As her solo film is still casting other characters, there have been reports that Alcock may make her DC Universe debut in Gunn’s Superman movie with David Corenswet.

Even though Gunn has stated previously, “I never even said she was in the movie,” regarding Supergirl’s prospective Superman screentime, the DC Studios co-CEO hasn’t outright rejected the concept, which makes a potential cameo still seemingly possible.

With Superman being the only DC Universe project in production right now, it would make sense for Alcock’s Supergirl to show up there in a supporting role. That would also allow the DC Universe audience to start building an investment in Kara before she heads into Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Given the iconic family relationship between Clark and Kara, it would be great to see the new Superman reboot establish that his dear cousin is already in his life at this point. There could also be a natural plot point in Superman that directly sets Kara up for her arc in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Hopefully, whether the hero appears in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow first or in Superman, more news will emerge sooner rather than later about Alcock’s journey as the Girl of Steel in the DC Universe.

Batman Gets a Joaquin Phoenix Joker Makeover in Official DC Art

The worlds of cinema and comics collide in official DC cover art that pictures The Dark Knight with a Joaquin Phoenix Joker-inspired makeover.

Comics and cinema collide as Batman receives a Joaquin Phoenix Joker-inspired makeover for an upcoming comic. With the release of Joker: Folie à Deux fast approaching, it’s understandable that references to the new movie are popping up in unrelated DC content, amplifying the excitement for it with artistic Easter eggs that are as enjoyable to discover as they are to dissect.

On June 25, 2024, Detective Comics #1086 by Ram V. and Javier Fernández will finally hit comic shelves. While this release date may still feel distant, the synopsis and accompanying art are sure to help tide fans over as they wait to get their hands on a copy.

    Cover Artist:

An unexpected villain has made an appearance in Gotham, trailing chaos, destruction, and horror in their wake. Now, as chaos tears a bloody gash through the sinister order of the Orghams’ Gotham, Batman is the city’s only hope for salvation. But is the city too far gone for even the Dark Knight to save it?

Particularly noteworthy of the solicitation is Sebastián Fiumara’s variant cover for the comic. This contribution is stunning as it pictures a somber-looking statue of The Dark Knight graffitied in bright colors, with the inclusion of joker makeup that mimics that of Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker.

Graffiti Transforms Statue Batman Into Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker

Like Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker makeup, the Batman statue dons red and blue makeup reminiscent of a circus clown’s aesthetic with painted-on, overly raised eyebrows, a red nose, and an exaggerated smile that is synonymous with the Joker in almost every iteration of the character. I

n addition, two azure triangles frame each eye, forming a diamond-like encasing that adds to the eerie clown aesthetic. Splashes of vivid colors paint the statue, with a red smiley face emblazoned on the bat symbol on its chest, subtly mocking The Dark Knight while paying homage to Phoenix’s Joker portrayal.

With Joker: Folie à Deux set to release on October 4, 2024, it will be interesting to see if any more homages will be made to the impending movie in the realm of comics. Even more intriguing is the possibility of a comic prelude for the movie.

DC has recently engaged in mixed media ventures, providing various projects with their own comic preludes, such as Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. So it’s not a far reach to speculate that Joker: Folie à Deux may also be in the running for a comic prelude.

Ram V.’s Detective Comics #1086 Will Be a Particularly Somber Issue

Fiumara’s graffitied Batman exudes a particularly somber aura, despite, or perhaps because of, the clown makeup. There’s an inherent sadness in seeing a cold, unfeeling stone version of Batman, meant to be a tribute, so thoroughly vandalized.

McKinnon’s variant cover, portraying Batman walking through a graveyard with a weeping angel statue looming above, further amplifies the somber mood of the issue. Paired with the synopsis “Batman is the city’s only hope for salvation. But is the city too far gone for even the Dark Knight to save it?” it’s unmistakable that this Batman narrative will take on a darker tone.

X-Men ’97 is the new animated show from Marvel. So far, the show has received rave reviews from critics and fans alike. With a new episode coming out every week, there is much to look forward to.

The plot picks up immediately after the events of X-Men: The Animated Series, which ended in 1997. It chronicles the team of mutants as they come to terms with the loss of Professor Charles Xavier, their leader.

Almost three decades later, the animated series will see the return of their nemesis, Magneto. The villain’s new look has become a talking point, sporting flowing white hair. His costume also bears a large M on the front.

Magneto’s new look is reminiscent of Geralt of Rivia, which Henry Cavill played in The Witcher. Unsurprisingly, it has also inspired a number of fan art pieces.

BossLogic, one of the most popular digital artists on social media, shared a peek at his latest artwork. It showed Cavill as the live-action version of the Marvel villain, with his hairdo similar to that of Geralt’s.

Cavill is not new to playing famous roles such as Superman and Sherlock Holmes. As of now, he is not part of the MCU, but there are rumors. Given his popularity and penchant for such roles, it is not out of the equation.

With Charles Xavier out of the picture, the mutants are left without a leader. The Professor’s nemesis fills in the role effortlessly, as he inherits Xavier’s assets.

Since Erik Lehnsherr, also known as Magneto, was introduced in the comics, he has come to be loved by the masses. He has a troubled past, being a survivor of the Holocaust, and has been shaped by his experiences. However, his relationship with Xavier has always stood out.

Lehnsherr’s past comes back to haunt him in the new animated series. Only this time, he is on a path of redemption, even though his real test would be to not stray from this path.

Created by Beau DeMayo, the first episode of the show premiered on March 20th. A live-action version of the series might not be on the cards at present, but Cavill would be a popular choice to play the character, as seen from the art.
