‘The Witcher’ Season 4: Everything We Know About Liam Hemsworth’s Debut as Geralt

Liam Hemsworth will take over for Henry Cavill next season.

Officially debuting on December 20, 2019, The Witcher quickly became one of Netflix’s most exciting and successful shows. In an age of binge-watching shows on streaming platforms, The Witcher soon earned the title of the ideal binge-watch show on Netflix, amassing an almighty fan base on top of the franchise’s already huge following. Now almost four years and three Seasons on, The Witcher is still one of the most popular and talked about shows on Netflix and, consequently, in the world.

However, in more recent times, it’s highly talked about nature is often due to happenings off-screen rather than on it, with some of the behind-the-scenes drama seemingly overshadowing the show itself. With that in mind, some of the show’s fan base and indeed those who create it would love to get the franchise’s reputation back on track following a turbulent year, and, with Season 4 of the show on its way sometime soon, hopefully, that can be the case. With all that being said, and with much of the behind-the-scenes drama coming to on-screen fruition in the upcoming fourth outing, here is everything we know about The Witcher Season 4 so far.

When Is The Witcher Season 4 Coming Out?

Unfortunately, we do not yet have an official release date for Season 4. This is unsurprising given its current production status, but that hasn’t stopped many in the fan base from trying to second-guess a release date. Given all the information we have at our disposal, there is a chance we may see the show’s fourth season debut in 2024, but there is also a chance we might have to wait until 2025. Either way, make sure to stay tuned to Collider for any and all updates regarding The Witcher’s upcoming fourth Season.

Where Can You Watch The Witcher Season 4?

    Image via Netflix

It will certainly not come as a shock to fans of the show that Season 4, just like the previous three Seasons, will be exclusively available on Netflix. For those who do not have a subscription to the streaming platform and who want to catch up on their Witcher lore in time for the fourth Season, a subscription with ads costs $6.99 per month, an ad-free subscription that supports one device costs $9.99 per month, and an ad-free version supporting two devices costing $15.49 per month.

Is There A Trailer For The Witcher Season 4?

A teaser for The Witcher season 4 has been made available by Netflix, but there isn’t an official trailer yet.

Who Is Starring In The Witcher Season 4?

Given that we are not sure about the Season 4 release of The Witcher, much of the cast list is still up for speculation. However, because of events that transpired at the end of Season 3, there are a few faces that are definitely returning to the screen. Anya Chalotra (Wanderlust) will return as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan (Gunpowder Milkshake) as Princess Ciri, Joey Batey (Strike) as Jaskier, Bart Edwards (Peep Show) as Emhyr van Emreis, and Mahesh Jadu as Vilgefortz of Roggeveen. The cast has also seen some significant additions, such as the well-known actor Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games) taking on the role of Geralt of Rivia. As a result of the show’s massive fan base, The Witcher is now able to showcase the talents of some of the biggest actors in the world.

The question surrounding Season 4’s cast is the exact question that has seemingly drawn the most off-screen heat on the show, with it being announced that the talented Henry Cavill (Zack Snyder’s Justice League), a mainstay of the show since its first moments and a man with a wonderful catalog of episodes behind him, would be stepping down from his role as Geralt of Rivia. This news, which came at a similar time to the announcement that Cavill would not be reprising his role as Superman either, definitely shook the fandom and caused a bitter taste in viewer’s mouths that only dampened the atmosphere surrounding Season 3, and contributed to its low critical ratings and public reaction. It was also announced that Cavill’s character would not be written out of the show but would be replaced by Liam Hemsworth.

Sharlto Copley, James Purefoy, and Danny Woodburnare new additions to the series. Copley will play bounty hunter Leo Bonhart, Purefoy will be advisor Skellen, and Woodburn will join as the beloved dwarf Zoltan.

What Will Season 4 Of The Witcher Be About?

    Image via Netflix

Given the enormous lore surrounding this franchise, from books to video games, the dedicated fans who give so much of their time to this story are rightfully protective over the show’s faith in its source material. With many fans finding specific faults with the narrative of Season 3, often their criticism was aimed at the show’s choice to deviate from the books, with many suggesting that the narrative direction in the show is much weaker and often more straightforward than what takes place in the original pages. With the scripts for Season 4 already written, fans will be desperate to see a more faithful representation of the original narrative. However, after news was released that the change of face from Cavill to Hemsworth would be written into the show, fans got their first taste of what would come in Season 4, sparking much more controversy. Here’s what producer Tomek Baginski had to say about their approach to the recasting:

Not going deeply into those ideas because this will be a huge spoiler, [but] it’s also very, very close to the meta ideas which are deeply embedded in the books, especially in book five. It’s very lore accurate. It’s very close to what was set out in the books and I think this change will be quite flawless.

Alas, this is not the only plot thread in Season 4. Given the ending of Season 3, it is likely we will get answers to some of those burning questions and perhaps delve deeper into inter-character relationships, such as Geralt’s romance with Yennefer. Despite some fan disappointment, there is plenty to be excited about, so stay tuned to Collider as more concrete information regarding Season 4’s plot is revealed.

    Who Is Behind The Witcher?

Although we do not have full confirmation about who exactly is involved in Season 4 in particular, the show has stayed true to many of its crew, so it is fair to assume that trend will continue into Season 4. The most recent directors of The Witcher included the likes of Stephen Surjik (The Umbrella Academy) and Bola Ogun (Battleship), with much of the writing credit going to the series creator Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (Daredevil) and executive story editor Matthew D’Ambrosio (The Vampire Diaries). Executive producer credits on The Witcher go to the likes of Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, Sean Daniel (The Mummy), Jason F. Brown (Ben-Hur), Tomasz Baginski (Fallen Art), and Steve Gaub (Unbroken).

Is Season 4 The End Of The Witcher?

Luckily for fans of the show, there is so much lore within the source material for the writers to play with that it felt inevitable when, back in May 2023, the show was officially renewed for Season 5. With Season 4 still some time away, and with Season 5 now confirmed, fans can rest assured that their favorite show will still be sticking around for quite a while.

Fans Rally: Alan Ritchson’s Photo with Henry Cavill Sparks Calls for James Gunn to Cast Him as Batman

Alan Ritchson’s latest photo makes it more evident that he can be the perfect Batman.

Alan Ritchson is floating all around the internet as a potential choice to play Batman in James Gunn’s new DCU. The star has been a hot topic of discussion recently as the fans want to see him as the next iteration of the Caped Crusader. Now, a new photo of Ritchson with our former Superman star, Henry Cavill, has convinced the fans more that he is perfect for the role.

    Alan Ritchson as Jack Reacher

Soon after James Gunn announced that they were working on The Brave and The Bold, the fans started speculating about who would be the best choice. Alan Ritchson turned out to be one of the most popular choices with numerous fans in his support. The fans believe that he has the right build and belongs to the accurate age group needed for DCU’s Batman.

Can Alan Ritchson be the next Batman?

Alan Ritchson and Henry Cavill in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare

Over the years, we have seen some of the greatest stars like Michael Keaton, Christian Bale, Ben Affleck, and Robert Pattinson portray the Dark Knight on-screen. It looks like the Reacher fame Alan Ritchson can be the probable name to continue the legacy of the character. Addressing the viral fan casting, the Fast X star has also admitted that he would love to play the role.

Alan Ritchson admitted to The Hollywood Reporter that he would love to play a new iteration of Batman. He explained that he has always been fascinated by Batman’s intelligence and his massive arsenal of impressive weapons and expensive vehicles. He would love to play Bruce Wayne in this new universe alongside David Corenswet.

“I would love to play Batman, there, I said it! Okay I’ll shout it from the rooftops, ‘I want to be Bruce Wayne!’… Here’s the thing about Batman – you know what his superpower is? Intelligence: The dude is the smartest superhero there is. He’s inventive and he’s got all the gadgets stuff, but he’s super smart. I want to be that guy and also to have like a cave with hypercars, sports cars, and awesome motorcycles.”

There are several reasons why the fans think Alan Ritchson can be the perfect choice to don the cape of the Dark Knight. While he possesses the required age and the physique for the role, he also has the superhero experience. He first rose to prominence with his role of Aquaman in the DC show, Smallville. He then also returned to play Hawk in DC’s Titans TV Series.

Recently, the 41-year-old actor was also spotted in a photo with his The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare co-star and former DC superstar Henry Cavill. The fans have conquered the internet to express their support for Alan Ritchson.

The fans are desperate to get Alan Ritchson as Batman

Alan Ritchson’s latest photo with Henry Cavill has taken over the internet and has once again led the fans to argue if he would be the perfect choice. The majority of the fans have seemed to agree that he can be ideal for pulling off a slightly older Batman required for the upcoming project.

However, it should also be noted that some other prominent names like Jensen Ackles and Jake Gyllenhaal are also favorites for the role. While Ackles has been fan cast in the role for ages, Gyllenhaal has recently admitted that he lost the role to Christian Bale for Christopher Nolan’s trilogy and would love to return.

Alan Ritchson will be seen alongside Henry Cavill in Guy Ritchie’s upcoming spy action comedy, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. It is set to be released on April 19, 2024.

Henry Cavill and Amber Heard Heard and her steamy Justice League workout photos

Zack Snyder’s Justice League is the most talked-about movie of DCEU. Recently, it has become a hot topic with workout pictures of Henry Cavill and Amber Heard on the set being shared.

DCEU is facing a lot of trouble recently due to the legal issues related to Amber Heard and Ezra Miller. But the franchise has a huge fanbase too. Most of that is due to the SnyderVerse and fans even want it restored.

    Henry Cavill as Superman

When the Snyder’s cut of Justice League came out last year, it was such a huge hit that it won the first-ever fan-voted recognition at the Academy Awards 2022.

Justice League BTS photos show Amber Heard and Henry Cavill working out

Amber Heard might lose her role as Mera

In the recent images shared by multiple DC fans, we see the cast and crew of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The workout images were taken by their trainer and photographer, Mark Twight, as the actors prepared for the Justice League movie. Henry Cavill played the role of Superman in the movie and Amber Heard was seen as Mera.

The fan tweets gave us a look at the body Henry Cavill developed to fit well into the role of Superman, who is the strongest Superhero in DC and the leader of the Justice League. Even the director praised the Superman actor for all the hard work he did to become fit for the character. And he portrayed the role so well that fans want him back.

In another photo, there’s Amber Heard showing off her muscles, smiling at the camera. Though the actress is now in controversy and many or almost everyone wants DC to take the role from her, for falsely accusing her ex-husband, she was the one who brought Mera to life on the screens.

Other actors from the movie also shined in their workout photos

All actors of Justice League followed a workout routine

Though Henry Cavill and Amber Heard are the ones being talked about the most, the pictures shared also include images of Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, and Zack Snyder himself. It is quite important for actors playing superhero roles to maintain a great physique. Recently, Natalie Portman, too, has been talking about her workout to fit into the role of Mighty Thor in the upcoming MCU film, Thor: Love and Thunder.

These pictures also won a lot of praise for the director Zack Snyder, who was seen working out along with the actors. Though his future in DC is not very clear yet, the fans do want the SnyderVerse to be restored.

The superhero fandom is yet to get over the fact that Henry Cavill will not be playing Superman in the new DCU. As teased in the past about his comeback for James Gunn’s new universe, many are still lauding Zack Snyder’s vision for the DCEU, as many trends have been circulating on Twitter. Recently, the director shared about Henry & Lois’ hot bathtub s*x scenes that were just too much for his neighbour. Read on to find out how the director explains the steamy scenes.

We never know whether we will get the SnyderVerse in the future or not. However, every day or second, the trends on Twitter are active as many of them ask Netflix to acquire the rights to Zack Snyder’s plans for the DC movies. While that is all on the internet, and there has been no official confirmation about the same, read on to find out what the filmmaker had to say about the steamy bathtub scenes with Clark Kent & Lois Lane.

During the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice panel at SnyderCon 2023, Zack Snyder revealed how their s*x scene caused trouble for Mrs Bukowski, who was their noisy neighbour and ultimately, the scene was not kept in the final cut. The actual scene had the neighbour banging her broom on the roof as she lived just below Superman’s bathroom. “Hey, what’s going up on there? You guys are making a lot of noise”

However, during the same panel discussion, the director touched upon various other elements of his SnyderVerse, which were unable to come up on the screen. In a previous conversation, the filmmaker also revealed he initially wanted to make his DCEU movies darker, but the production wanted to lower the tone of the movies.

  • This Hot Actor Could Be the Next Superman, Potentially Replacing Henry Cavill

This Hot Actor Could Be the Next Superman, Potentially Replacing Henry Cavill

Recently, Henry Cavill, known for portraying Superman in the DC Universe, took to his social media platforms to announce his departure from the role, leaving fans disappointed.

Initially, Cavill had hinted at his return as the iconic superhero, bringing joy to fans. However, it was Cavill himself who confirmed his farewell to Superman with a somber post on Instagram.

His decision comes amidst the ongoing restructuring of the DC Universe, which has seen the cancellation of projects like Wonder Woman. Numerous reports have emerged detailing the significant changes underway at the company, notably with the appointment of James Gunn as the new head of productions.

According to producer James Gunn, a new Superman movie is in the works, but it will focus on the character’s younger years, making Henry Cavill unsuitable for the role.

Despite Cavill’s heartfelt farewell to the character he portrayed since 2013, he emphasized that Superman’s legacy will endure. Fans will have to wait to see what lies ahead for the iconic superhero.

Meanwhile, ‘The Hollywood Reporter’ suggests that the new film aims to feature a young and vibrant cast, ensuring continuity throughout the various stages planned for the franchise.

Rumors are swirling that Jacob Elordi, known for his roles in Netflix’s ‘Euphoria’ and ‘The Kissing Booth’ series, could be donning the iconic red cape as Superman, potentially replacing Henry Cavill.

Reports suggest that Elordi is currently in discussions with producers and studio executives to take on the role of the ‘Man of Steel’ and lead the renowned franchise.

Neither Elordi nor Henry Cavill have confirmed these reports yet. However, it’s evident that the restructuring of various iconic superheroes is already in progress.

Lorraine Kelly, 63, reacted to Henry Cavill’s risqué Rolling Stone ‘cover shoot’ on Tuesday, sharing a post on Twitter where she simply exclaimed ‘crikey’ alongside the photoshopped front cover featuring the 29-year-old actor flaunting his washboard abs and toned torso. Fans were captivated by Cavill’s muscular physique and bulge displayed on the magazine, with one tweeting, ‘Good grief, are those real?’

Shocked: The TV personality, 63, tweeted ‘crikey’ in a post she shared with the front cover of him on the photoshopped Rolling Stone magazine

“They’ll never hire him as the new Bond after this cover!”

“Feeling the heat… or is it just me lol!”

“Could’ve used a warning… or at least a ‘brace yourself!’”

“If he wasn’t going to get the James Bond role before, he definitely will now.”

The circulated cover isn’t an official Rolling Stone issue; it’s a doctored image circulating online.

One person humorously remarked, “Whoever made this fake Rolling Stone cover is twisted and needs to make more. #henrycavill”

DC Comics fans have voiced concerns about David Corenswet’s casting as the new Superman, branding him a ‘copycat’ of Henry.

David, who has never headlined a major studio production before, will play Clark Kent in the rebooted film series alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, replacing Amy Adams, according to Deadline.

David replaces Henry, 40, who was let go as part of a major shake-up by new studio heads James Gunn and Peter Safran in the DC Franchise.

After the casting news, fans questioned why Henry was let go only to be replaced by a younger lookalike.

Crazy: Fans have gone wild after Henry flaunted his muscular form and his bulge on the cover of the magazine

Eagle-eyed fans have noticed the striking similarities between the two actors, noting their chiseled jawlines, dark hair, and piercing eyes.

One fan remarked, “It’s crazy how similar David looks to Henry.”

Another added, “David Corenswet does resemble a younger Henry Cavill.”

A third fan commented, “I’m sure David Corenswet is talented, but he still seems like a cheap copy of Henry Cavill.”

“People, myself included, see him as just a carbon copy of Henry Cavill, so he needs to bring something new to the character,” noted another fan.

“I’ve seen fans questioning why David was hired instead of Henry Cavill since they look so alike. I think that’s a compliment to both actors. They both embody Superman, so their resemblance is a testament to the casting,” expressed a different fan.

Some believe David is the perfect choice to portray a younger Superman.

David’s previous roles include Jake in the 2022 Netflix film Look Both Ways, as well as appearances in Hollywood, The Politician, and the A24 film Pearl.

  • Henry Cavill’s statements about se* scenes are controversial

Henry Cavill’s statements about se* scenes are controversial

Social media is filled with hot takes, and one never-ending discourse has exploded even more recently: Are se* scenes necessary in movies and TV shows?

Some people believe these intimate shots aren’t needed to drive a plot; meanwhile, there are others who feel those vulnerable moments are pivotal — even if they are odd (ahem, Saltburn and The Idol). Then, there’s also the group that will argue se* scenes in certain projects aren’t steamy enough. Nonetheless, it’s a juicy topic that nearly everyone has weighed in on, including actors such as Henry Cavill.

During his Feb. 5 appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Cavill and his Argylle director Matthew Vaughn shared their thoughts on the controversial topic. Vaughn revealed he “doesn’t understand” the process of creating a steamy scene, and Cavill echoed a similar stance.

“I don’t understand them. I’m not a fan,” Cavill said. “There are circumstances where a se* scene actually is beneficial to a movie, rather than just the audience, but I think sometimes they’re overused these days.”

The actor continued, adding that some se* scenes feel watered down and might drag down the potential of a certain film. “It’s when you have a sense where you’re going, ‘Is this really necessary or is it just people with less clothing on?’ And that’s when you start to get more uncomfortable and you’re thinking, ‘There’s not a performance here. There’s not a piece which is going to carry through to the rest of the movie.’”

    THEO WARGO/GETTY IMAGES ENTERTAINMENT/GETTY IMAGES

This isn’t the first time Cavill — who’s done several se* scenes on HBO’s 2007 series, The Tudors, and Netflix’s The Witcher — has spoken about this topic. In 2015, the Man of Steel actor revealed in an interview with Men’s Fitness that he once got aroused while filming a graphic scene for the HBO series.

“A girl had to be on top of me. She had spectacular breasts, and I hadn’t rearranged my… stuff into a harmless position. She’s basically rubbing herself all over me, um, it got a bit hard,” he said at the time, recalling the incident as “embarrassing.” “I had to apologize profusely afterward. It’s not great when you’re in a professional acting environment and somebody gets a boner, is it? No, not acceptable.”

While Cavill seems to question the use of se* scenes in cinema, Penn Badgley brought a new perspective to the table last year. In February 2023, the You actor revealed he wanted to slow down the intimacy in the series’ fourth season to honor the sanctity of his relationship with fellow actor Domino Kirke. They’ve been married since 2017.

“I asked Sera Gamble, [the show’s] creator, ‘Can I just do no more intimacy scenes?’” Badgley recalled at the time. “‘How much less can you make it?’ was my question to them. They came back with a phenomenal reduction. Fidelity in every relationship, including my marriage, is important to me, and it just got to a point where I don’t want to do that.”

His stance ruffled some feathers online, though many agreed that the lack of se* scenes helped his character thrive at being, well, a methodical villian. Now, with Cavill’s latest comment, the se* scene discourse is once again plaguing social media.

  • Henry Cavill’s latest hair transformation is now giving hot Colonel Sanders and Mr. Pringles

Henry Cavill’s latest hair transformation is now giving hot Colonel Sanders and Mr. Pringles

Just days before the release of Henry Cavill’s new film Argylle, we’ve already been treated to a first trailer for his next movie – and another wild hair transformation.

Henry Cavill has moved on from Argylle’s flat top hairstyle (Picture: Han Myung-Gu/WireImage)

The Superman star, 40, will be on screens this Friday as the titular fictional super-spy in Matthew Vaughn’s latest blockbuster, opposite a star-studded cast including Sam Rockwell, Bruce Dallas Howard, Samuel L Jackson, Bryan Cranston and Chip the (filmmaker’s own) cat.

The trailer for The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare dropped on Tuesday, offering a glimpse at Henry in character as real-life special forces officer Gus March-Phillips.

And this time around, the star has much longer, curlier locks and a full beard, complete with an impressive moustache.

His dramatic flat top hairstyle in Argylle has already generated plenty of buzz and lookalike comparisons, but his next flick, with director Guy Ritchie, has provided us with another distinctive look thanks to his head and facial hair.

Now, we all know Henry has quite the history with an onscreen ‘tache thanks to the Mission: Impossible – Fallout vs Justice League CGI debacle, but his time he’s even got a little jaunty twirl at either end.

In The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, the actor has an impressive moustache, beard and longer hair (Picture: Lionsgate)

Henry plays the founder of an early version of the SAS in the Guy Ritchie film (Picture: Lionsgate)

Thanks to that, he’s giving us some new lookalike vibes…

    Colonel Sanders

The actor is giving us Colonel Sanders vibes (Picture: Jakub Porzycki/NurPhoto/REX/Shutterstock)

Hear us out, but Henry’s latest hair transformation is really giving him an air of a young Colonel Sanders, thanks to his beard and ‘tache como.

Yes, he doesn’t have the same snowy white colour, but a similarity is also there in the distinct wave to his hair too.

Colonel Sanders is, of course, the famous founder of fast-food chain KFC, who also acted as the company’s brand ambassador, with his name and likeness still remaining symbols of the company to this day.

    Hercule Poirot

There’s also Poirot similarities, with that twirl in the ‘tache (Picture: ITV/REX/Shutterstock)

Another in the younger/hot version category is Hercule Poirot.

Naturally, author Agatha Christie’s sleuth is the most famous owner onscreen of Henry’s type of ‘tache in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, thanks to the countless adaptations of her work.

So, of course, he was going to spring to mind.

Actor David Suchet, 77, is perhaps the most recognisable version of the twirly-moustached detective, having played him from 1989 until 2013 in the ITV television adaptation of the novels.

Daniel Day-Lewis in Gangs of New York

Daniel Day-Lewis rocked a similar look in Gangs of New York (Picture: Miramax/Dimension Films/Kobal/REX/Shutterstock)

Although the trailer for The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare suggests rather a different personality type for Phillips (as we’d hope), there’s no getting away from the Daniel Day-Lewis in Gangs of New York vibe.

As Bill ‘The Butcher’ Cutting, Day-Lewis is a rather violent criminal, fond of sticking heads on pikes, whereas the basis for Henry’s character in his new film was March-Phillips, founder of the British Army’s No. 62 Commando, an early precursor to the SAS, and an officer during World War Two.

However, from a purely superficial point of view, Day-Lewis rocks one of the most iconic moustache-and-hair blends in cinema, from which Henry’s is not that far…

Errol Flynn in The Sea Hawk

Errol Flynn was an old-school swashbuckler, with similar style to Henry in his latest role (Picture: Warner Bros/Kobal/REX/Shutterstock)

An older reference, but if you’re Guy Richie making a deliberately anachronistic film about beating the Nazis with machine guns and razor-sharp quips, then there’s very much an element of swashbuckling going on.

Also – you even see a boat in the trailer, so that combined with Henry’s hirsute vibe and swagger is saying ‘pirate’ to us.

So naturally, there’s Errol Flynn. An action star of his day, the actor played everyone from Robin Hood to Captain Blood to the Earl of Essex.

Alongside his roguish charm, he inevitably sported some sort of combination of facial hair and longer locks, with the most similar to Henry’s probably being in 1940’s The Sea Hawk.

    Mr. Pringles

Were you not a bit reminded of this too? (Picture: Getty/SOPA)

A little left field here, but if we can mention Colonel Sanders, surely the Pringles logo character should get some acknowledgement?

Boasting a very fine and bushy specimen of a moustache, which has a jaunty twirl like Henry’s, Mr. Julius Pringles (his official name, apparently) also has wavier hair on top too.

Mr. Pringles was introduced in 1967, with a head of hair, moustache and the company’s name written out to resemble a bowtie.

Since 2021, however, he has been streamlined to remove his fine head of hair.

Douglas Fairbanks in The Thief of Bagdad (1924)

The original swashbuckler Douglas Fairbanks often had a similar moustache (Picture: Granger/REX/Shutterstock)

Another Golden Age of Hollywood reference, but if Henry is reminding us of Flynn then he’s almost certainly got a dash of Douglas Fairbanks in his new character and look as well.

Fairbanks was arguably the first blockbuster star in Hollywood, and a founder of United Artists studios alongside Charlie Chaplin, filmmaker D.W. Griffith and his real-life wife and fellow star Mary Pickford.

Famed for doing his own stunts, he is certainly an inspiration for the action-heavy movies of today.

The Thief of Bagdad is widely considered one of the best silent films made.

    Sam Elliott

An actor whose iconic ‘tache is older than most of us, we couldn’t not mention Sam Elliott… (Picture: REX/Shutterstock)

Almost aways an owner of a fine moustache, Sam Elliott deserves an honourable mention.

Sometimes he grows it long enough to flick up like Henry’s – or he goes for a handlebar – but he is rarely seen without (except in TV series Justified, where he was almost unrecognisable clean shaven).

The Oscar nominee started his lengthy career with bit parts in iconic 1960s Westerns The Way West and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

Since then, he’s returned to play cowboy types time and again, as well as appear in films like 2018’s A Star is Born, Up in the Air and Ghost Rider.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare follows a daring operation that changed the course of WWII (Picture: Lionsgate)

The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare boasts a cast including Henry, Eiza González, Reacher’s Alan Ritchson, Alex Pettyfer, Henry Golding, and Cary Elwes.

It tells the story of the first-ever special forces organization formed during WWII by Winston Churchill and a small group of military officials including author Ian Fleming.

The top-secret combat unit, composed of a motley crew of rogues and mavericks, goes on a daring mission against the Nazis using entirely unconventional and utterly ‘ungentlemanly’ fighting techniques.

Steven Spielberg’s Impact on DC Animated Universe: How His Actions May Have Single-handedly Saved the Franchise

Steven Spielberg’s work in the animation is often underrated and his involvement with the medium helped set the stage for the DCAU.

The DCAU, highlighted by iconic shows like Batman: The Animated Series, owes its existence to Steven Spielberg, without whom it might not have come into being, despite its immense popularity in the 90s and early 2000s.

According to the DCAU head Bruce Timm, Spielberg entered the animation medium at a crucial juncture, and his involvement helped pave the way for some of the best entries in the DCAU. As a result, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that Spielberg saved the DC Animated Universe from spiraling into obscurity, and here is why.

Steven Spielberg’s Collaboration With Warner Bros. Animation Likely Saved the DCAU

Steven Spielberg‘s impact on the film industry has been undeniable. However, Spielberg also had a large if somewhat underrated impact on modern American animation, especially the string of classic DC Animated Universe shows.

In The Heart of Batman, a documentary series exploring the making of Batman: The Animated Series, the cornerstone of the DCAU, co-creator Bruce Timm highlighted Spielberg’s influence on modern animation.

“A lot of the earlier generation, the famous Nine Old Men, the star animators going back to the Snow White days, a lot of them were retiring or dying off and there didn’t seem to be a whole new generation of people who were being mentored.”

Timm made the above statement explaining the challenges faced by the animation industry during the late 80s and early 90s. Timm added that Spielberg entered the industry during this period and collaborated with Warner Bros. Animation.

Spielberg went on to produce the critically acclaimed Tiny Toon Adventures, which ran from 1990 to 1992, and Animaniacs, among other shows, which elevated the bar for the animation medium. Timm also revealed that having Spielberg onboard helped projects secure larger budgets. As a result, it is safe to say that the DCAU would not have existed without Spielberg’s foray into animation.

DCAU Spearhead Bruce Timm Once Bailed on a Steven Spielberg Project

Despite praising Spielberg for laying the foundation for the DCAU, Bruce Timm’s collaboration with the legendary director did not pan out as he would have expected. In an interview, Timm revealed that Spielberg was a fan of Batman: The Animated Series and reached out to the show’s creative team with an opportunity to collaborate.

Timm explained that he met Spielberg several times to develop the idea for an animated show, which eventually came to fruition as Freakazoid! However, Timm admitted that the show went in a different direction than he had envisioned, leading to him bailing on the project altogether.

“I bailed on it really early. It started out as an adventure show, but it ended up turning into more & more of a comedy show.”

Timm added that the concept originally started out as a grounded teenage superhero show. However, with each meeting with Spielberg, the concept would change and lean more into comedy. Timm noted that the final product was more in line with Spielberg’s comedic shows such as Tiny Toon Adventures and Animaniacs.
