Zayn Malik reveals he had eating disorder while in One Direction

Zayn Malik has revealed he had an eating disorder while performing with One Direction two years ago.

In excerpts from his new book, the 23-year-old says seeing pictures from 2014 makes him realise “how ill” he was.

“Something I’ve never talked about in public before, but which I have come to terms with since leaving the band, is that I was suffering from an eating disorder,” he writes.

“It wasn’t as though I had any concerns about my weight or anything like that.

“I’d just go for days – sometimes two or three days straight – without eating anything at all.

“It got quite serious, although at the time I didn’t recognise it for what it was.”

It’s not clear from the extracts published in The Sun whether Zayn had an official diagnosis, or got medical treatment for his condition.

He quit One Direction in March last year, having missed out on a number of appearances with the rest of the band due to stress.

Since then he has launched his own solo career, releasing his first album Mind of Mine in March and has started dating Gigi Hadid.

“I think it was about control. I didn’t feel like I had control over anything else in my life, but food was something I could control, so I did,” he says.

“I had lost so much weight I had become ill.

“The workload and the pace of life on the road put together with the pressures and strains of everything going on within the band had badly affected my eating habits.”

Zayn also describes how anxiety has forced him to cancel big solo gigs.

“The idea of it totally freaked me out and I was paralysed with anxiety,” he explains.

“The plan is to start performing smaller venues and work my way up from there.

“This anxiety isn’t going to get the better of me.”

Liam Payne has put a difficult few months behind him with a luxury trip, and his One Direction bandmate has some thoughts about it.

The former One Direction star, 30, was recently hit with major health problems which led him to be hospitalised twice and forced to postpone his planned tour.

And shortly after his second hospitalisation for sudden ‘agonising pain’ while on a trip with his girlfriend, the Strip That Down singer was taken off the road after being caught speeding.

Liam was stripped of his licence and fined £293 after the incident in February, ‘due to repeat offending’, as well as being given a six-month driving ban following a hearing in October.

The star has now put on a smile as he enjoys a trip to Saudi Arabia where he rubbed shoulders with A-listers, including legendary boxer Mike Tyson.

In a series of snaps from the trip, uploaded to Instagram, Liam posed with the former heavyweight champion as they casually chilled on a sofa.

The keen boxing fan also met British boxer Chris Eubank Jr, Lennox Lewis and influencer Abdu Rozik, while also spending time on a gold course, exploring the city and its nightlife, and relaxing in luxury.

He shared the snaps with the message: ‘Thanks for having me Saudi. It’s beautiful to see how the landscape is changing.’

His army of fans quickly took to the comments, many sharing their joy at how happy and healthy Liam looks – including his former 1D bandmate Louis Tomlinson, who urged Liam to ‘give me a ring lad.’

And because One Direction fans are tragically starved for content from the formerly world-famous boyband, everyone naturally freaked out, with Louis’ comment garnering over 50,000 likes.

Another comment from an Instagram user – ‘LOUIS COMMENTED IM NOT OK IM NOT OK’ – got over 1400 likes, with hundreds more likes going to comments all following a pattern similar to ‘OMG OMG OMG’ and ‘AAAHHH WHAT THE HELL’.

Louis and Liam have rekindled a firm friendship in recent months after Liam apologised for controversial comments made on Logan Paul’s podcast last year, including claiming the X Factor group was formed around him, and that he got into a fistfight with one of his former bandmates.

In September Liam was in Lake Como, Italy, celebrating his one-year anniversary with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy, when he fell ill.

A source said Liam was ‘in a bad way’, weeks after he told fans that he’d had to postpone his first solo tour after being in hospital with a serious kidney infection.

He’s since got back to work, recently spotted filming a secret upcoming project in Northern Ireland, and on a romantic trip to Paris with Kate.

It’s not all smooth sailing quite yet however, as Liam received a six-month driving ban earlier this month after an incident in February this year which saw him clocked going 43mph in a maximum 30 zone in West London in his £35,000 Ford Ranger.

He previously submitted to the court that he ‘did not realise the speed limit’ and apologised for speeding.

He admitted that due to his globe-trotting career, it was not uncommon for him to be frequently absent from their son Bear’s life. Now, he is reportedly planning on dedicating more of his time and energy towards raising the six-year old.

A source source told OK!: “Liam is taking on more responsibilities and really regrets those comments he made about kids ruining relationships. He wants to prove to Cheryl that he’s now going in the right direction and has really changed.”

The source further divulged: “His health scares have also pushed him to realise that he wants to be a big part in Bear’s life and that time goes by too quickly.”

This commitment couldn’t have come at a better moment for his ex, Cheryl, who will soon embark on a reunion tour with her Girls Aloud bandmates, Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts, and Kimberley Walsh, all in remembrance of their late friend and bandmate, Sarah Harding.

The insider continued: “I think he wants to prove to Cheryl that he’s getting his life together. Liam wants to be a good dad and with Cheryl now going back on Girls Aloud, she’ll be busier than ever and won’t be at home as much.”

Liam’s new focus comes after he posted a rare picture of Bear on Instagram. The sweet snap showed the youngster in a bright yellow puffer coat looking at a massive billboard of Liam promoting his new music.

Reba McEntire Is Grateful to Be a Mama on Son Shelby’s Birthday

Reba McEntire became a mother 34 years ago. The gravity of that important milestone is not lost on the country singer, who took time to wish her son Shelby Blackstock a happy birthday on Friday, Feb. 23.

“I sure feel a lot better today than I did 34 years ago,” she jokes before becoming sentimental in her words. “From the first second I found out I was pregnant, up to today, this child is one of the biggest blessings of my life.”

“Thank you, God for letting me experience being a mama. I love you, Shelby, with all my heart,” she adds.

Who Is Reba’s Son, Shelby Blackstock?

Shelby is Reba McEntire’s only child. He is a professional race car driver who lives in Nashville with his wife of two years, Marissa Branch.

His father is producer Narvel Blackstock, to whom the “Seven Minutes in Heaven” singer was married from 1989 to 2015 (McEntire was also married to steer wrestling champion Charlie Battles from 1976 to 1987 — currently she is dating actor Rex Linn after re-igniting their friendship in 2020).

The “Fancy” singer spent as much time as she could with son Shelby during his childhood, despite her busy career. She even drove him to and from school because she just wanted to be with him.

“Shelby is a gift from God to me,” McEntire told People in 2022. We’re very close.”

“I was a very self-centered person to a degree before Shelby,” she explains, “But then there’s a little character who you are given the job to protect and nurture and love and teach, so all the attention’s not on you anymore.”

Reba McEntire has been in the music industry for over 40 years. If we named every hit the 64-year-old has released (“The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia,” “Does He Love You,” “I’m a Survivor”), we’d be here until the ACM Awards start on Sunday. But despite her many successes, there’s one song that stands out above the rest.

In 1990, Reba released “Fancy” on her album, Rumor Has It. The story of a poor girl who’s forced to make ends meet captivated audiences and still remains one of her most famous pieces of work. Here’s everything to know about Reba’s perennial popular tune.

What does the song “Fancy” mean?

“It’s a rags-to-riches story,” Reba tells CountryLiving.com while discussing her brand-new album, Stronger Than the Truth. “I love rags-to-riches stories. Cinderella, Annie Get Your Gun, all poverty and then make it big in the world.”

She continues, “Well, she did, too. Fancy—she had a lot going against her and she persevered and moved on.”

Fancy did have a lot of obstacles in her way. To sum it up, Fancy’s ill mother used the “last penny we had” to buy her a dress. After dolling her daughter up, she sent Fancy off into the world with this advice:

“Just be nice to the gentlemen, Fancy, and they’ll be nice to you.”
Though heartbreaking, Fancy does pull herself up from her bootstraps, eventually charming a congressman, “occasional aristocrat,” and earning herself a Georgian mansion and New York townhouse.

Who sang “Fancy” before Reba?
You may be shocked to learn that “Fancy” isn’t actually an original Reba hit. Bobbie Gentry first recorded it in 1969. According to Rolling Stone, Bobbie’s version only made it to 26 on the country charts.

It remained one of Reba’s favorites, though. “I always wanted to record it,” Reba says. “Then [producer] Tony Brown said, ‘What’s a song you’d like to do a remake of?’ And I said, ‘Fancy.’ He said, ‘That’s one of my favorite songs, too.’ And so we recorded it.”

Is “Fancy” a true story?
There’s nothing to suggest that “Fancy” is based off real events, but the music video sure made it seem believable!

Reba practically turned the release into a mini movie, where she played the titular role of Fancy—a full-blown star who is returning home to make peace with her past. She eventually turns her shack into a refuge for runaways, giving this sad story a meaningful ending that only the queen of country could pull off.

The country singer and multi-hyphenate performer is poised to return to television with a new sitcom. NBCUniversal announced Monday that they have ordered a still untitled pilot for a multi-cam sitcom that will star McEntire. She will also executive produce.

The logline explains, “Reba inherits her father’s restaurant and is less than thrilled to discover that she has a new business partner in the half-sister she never knew she had.”

Kevin Abbott, a writer and executive producer on Last Man Standing, Cristela, and the original Reba, will serve as head writer and EP for the series.

It has been over 20 years since Reba premiered. It starred McEntire as a middle-aged Texas-based mom coping with the end of her marriage, her husband’s infidelity, and her daughter’s teen pregnancy. The series ran for six seasons on the WB (the sixth season was on then-new network The CW), and it concluded in Feb. 2007.

The show, which also featured a hit theme song penned and sung by McEntire, lives on in syndication, most recently on the Hallmark Channel. The entire series is currently available to stream on Hulu.

McEntire has continued to act in the years since, including starring on the short-lived sitcom Malibu Country as a wife and mother wronged by her country music star husband. Most recently, she played mermaid Trish in Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar, as well as recurring on Young Sheldon as hairstylist June Ballard and appearing on season 3 of Big Sky as ranch owner Sunny Barnes. She joined The Voice as a coach in season 24 and will reprise her role there this coming season.

The country star will also sing the national anthem at Super Bowl LVIII on Feb. 11.

‘Young Sheldon’ Producer Hoping To Wrangle Reba McEntire For Show’s Final Season

Reba McEntire is one of the most in-demand names in television right now. In addition to her recurring role on The Voice and the yet-to-be-named comedy that’s currently in the works at NBC, the showrunners behind Young Sheldon are reportedly vying to get one more guest appearance out of her.

Executive producer Steve Holland recently told TVLine that they’re in discussions with McEntire about having her return to the Young Sheldon set before the end of the show’s seventh and final season this spring.

“We would love to have her back,” Holland said. “She’s expressed interest, but she’s very busy. She has another [sitcom] pilot that she’s shooting…so I just don’t know if it’s going to work out.”

“It’s just a matter of logistics,” he added.

Fans of the CBS hit will recall that McEntire made her debut as hairstylist June Ballard, ex-wife of Dale (Craig T Nelson), in season three. The country legend appeared in a total of six episodes through season five.

The current season of Young Sheldon airs Thursdays at 8pm EST on CBS. A one-hour series finale is scheduled for May 16, and will be followed by a spinoff series centered around Georgie and Mandy in the near future.

The Voice coaches are pulling out all the stops to try and win their final team members for season 25!

Ronnie Wilson, a 28-year-old South Carolina native, took the stage for Monday’s Blind Auditions, with a rendition of Zayn’s “Pillowtalk” that impressed the season 25 coaches — Reba McEntire, John Legend, Chance the Rapper and Dan + Shay — and earned chair turns from Reba and John.

At first, it seemed like Ronnie and John might have more common ground. Ronnie revealed that he’s a full-time accountant. While he’s now an EGOT winner, John also worked as a “management consultant” before pursuing music full-time.

However, when Ronnie named gospel and country as his top two musical influences, Reba saw her opportunity.

She cut John off, pretending to lift a phone to her ear.

“Nicole, would you put Keith on the line, please?” she teased, pretending to speak with fellow country star Keith Urban and his wife, Nicole Kidman. “Hey, Keith, how ya doin’? Yeah, we’re here at The Voice — if you were on The Voice, who would you want to coach you? Me? Nicole said her too?”

Unfortunately, Reba’s pitch falls just a little bit short, and Ronnie ends up joining Team Legend.

ET spoke with the season 25 coaches ahead of the premiere, where they shared what it’s been like to welcome The Voice’s first-ever coaching duo to the competition.

“They give great notes. They’re really good,” Reba praised. “They’re knowledgeable about the business but they also have a lot of heart and that’s what they’re going for.”

Dan + Shay say they’ve been fans of the show for years — they served as mentors for Blake Shelton’s team back in season 20 and even stepped in to guest coach Niall Horan’s team last season — but getting to serve as full-time coaches for the first time has been a whole new experience.

“It’s changed everything for us,” Shay admitted. “I just really enjoy the process of getting to work with these artists, and you really, you get attached. It becomes heartbreaking when you have to let people go. But it’s been an amazing experience.”

Chance the Rapper makes his return this season for the first time since his season 23 Voice debut, where he joined Blake, Niall and Kelly Clarkson. He told ET that it’s especially exciting to be back with a whole new roster of coaching talent.

“I’ve always just admired John and he’s helped me in so many different ways,” he reflected. “To be working with him and then to be around Reba, and Dan + Shay, and with this amazing crew… I do miss Blake, but it’s just cool to be back in the building.”

Despite the good vibes, however, the coaches are still plenty competitive. With Niall stepping away this season after winning back-to-back titles, the Voice trophy is up for grabs — and there’s a better-than-average chance it could go to a first-time champion, as only John has won the competition before.

“It’s getting heated out there for sure,” Shay revealed.

“That’s why we’re here,” Reba agreed.

Reba, 68, fought back tears during blind auditions on this week’s episode of The Voice after hearing a heartfelt story from a contestant.
The Queen of Country slammed her buzzer while listening to 16-year-old William Alexander’s performance of the song Ceilings.
After he finished his audition, the Staten Island native revealed that he chose the track in honor of his grandfather who died last year.
“Singing that song, I was actually singing it for my grandfather who passed away last year.

“He always said that he believed in me and it’s just crazy being here now,” William explained, tearing up while on stage.
Reba then spoke up, asking the teen if he was really “thinking of his grandfather” during his song.
“Cause when I’m singing a song and I’m thinking about my mama my voice gets real high like that,” she joked, imitating a crying whimpering sound.
“Then I start gasping and then I can’t sing anymore. How did you do that?” she asked.

William replied, “I just pictured him hearing this and seeing me do this. It just made me feel so proud to be here.”
“Wonderful, wonderful,” Reba gushed, adding, “You’re going to have somebody with you all the time.”

The country singer started to break down in tears as she confessed, “Now I’m getting choked up and I’m going to have to start talking very high.
“But I thought you did a great job. Your voice is a beautiful gift and I’d love to have you on my team,” she shared.

Reba then grabbed a tissue and wiped the tears out of her eyes.

Over the last several weeks, fans have predicted that Reba will win Season 25 of The Voice.
Ahead of the season premiere last month, NBC shared behind-the-scenes photos of The Voice coaches on Instagram.
In the collection, Reba posed with singer John Legend, 45; rapper Chance the Rapper, 30; and country singing duo Dan Smyers, 36, and Shay Mooney, 31.
The country singer seemed to be mocking her co-stars as she spoke to them on a bullhorn.

In one of the photos in the Instagram carousel, newcomers Dan & Shay smiled widely as they sat in the red chairs.
In 2023, they joined the judge’s panel for Season 25.
Although this is the first time a pair will sit on the panel, they served as Battle Advisors on Blake Shelton’s team in 2020.
In the comments section, viewers praised Reba while sharing their concerns about the first-timers.
“Not keen on this Dan and Shay situation. Why? Who are they really?” a critic trolled.

“Yes! #TeamReba all the way!” one fan cheered.
“I’m not sure about this Dan and Shay thing,” another critic added.
“Outside of Reba, the rest is kind of meh. She’s the real deal!” another fan gushed.
“Not liking the new judges sorry,” a fourth person wrote.
“Go #TeamReba! You should have broken up that row of males and put Reba in the middle! She looks outnumbered! However, she’s pretty feisty! So I’m not worried!” a commentator chimed.
The new season of The Voice began February 26 on NBC and streams on Peacock.
