It’s True: Reba McEntire Turned Down A Leading Role In The Legendary ‘Titanic’ Movie

“I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason,” Reba says of turning down the part.

Did you know that Reba McEntire turned down a role in Titanic?

The 11x Oscar-winning film, Titanic, is making its return to theaters in celebration of its 25th anniversary. While fans know the James Cameron movie for its impressive acting and dramatic storyline based on true events, many may not be aware that country music legend, Reba McEntire, was almost featured in the cast.

The singer/songwriter confirmed this fun fact during a previous appearance on an episode of Happens Live With Andy Cohen. While on the show, McEntire joined in on a game called, “The McEntire Truth,” which challenged the host and fellow guest, Morris Chestnut, to decide if the set of facts shared about her were true or not.

The final fact of the game revealed that McEntire was originally chosen to play Molly Brown in the critically acclaimed 1997 film, but the role was ultimately given to Kathy Bates after McEntire turned it down.

She went on to explain her reasoning behind walking away from the film that would end up making history.

“We were on tour and I had a lot of people on the payroll, and we had these three months already scheduled to do the movie and then they got behind on scheduling and said, ‘We’re gonna have to move it in this time,’” she shared. “We couldn’t reschedule all the arenas and everything.”

The “Rumor Has It” singer also discussed this missed opportunity during an interview with Howie Mandel back in the 1990’s.

At that time, she shared the same explanation, stating that the time required for her to be on set didn’t line up with her touring schedule. Mandel followed up by asking if she wished things would have worked out differently, giving her the chance to play the role in the film that went on to win dozens of awards and countless nominations since its debut.

“I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason,” she replied before adding, “So it didn’t work out for some reason or another, but I thought Kathy Bates was absolutely wonderful. She was perfect for that.”

The well-known love story between Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio’s characters, Rose Dewitt Bukater and Jack Dawson will return to theaters in February.

Paramount Pictures announced on Twitter that the movie will be back on the big screen in 4K and 3D for a limited time beginning Feb. 10. CBS also revealed that the remastered film will be paired with a new poster and trailer.

    Music, Movies, TV

While McEntire may not have been a part of Titanic, she has still built an impressive acting resume over the years with a slew of TV shows, movies and Broadway performances.

She has appeared in numerous films like Tremors, alongside Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward, and the 1993 movie, The Man from Left Field, plus her starring role in her popular TV sitcom, Reba, which aired from 2001-2007.

Most recently, McEntire found herself playing the role of Sunny Barnes in the latest season of ABC’s Big Sky, alongside her co-star and real-life boyfriend, Rex Linn. The couple also appeared in McEntire’s latest Lifetime movie, The Hammer, in which she plays the character Kim Wheeler. The new original movie premiered on January 7th at 8/7c on Lifetime

On top of her recent TV appearances, Reba McEntire is preparing for the extended run of Reba: Live In Concert tour with special guests Terri Clark and The Isaacs. This set of shows is scheduled to kick off March 9 in Jacksonville, FL and continue through the spring of 2023.

Mafe: The moment John Legend turned I knew he was the right choice for me. I am so grateful that all the coaches turned but when I saw John’s face and how much he was enjoying the performance, I knew he would be the right one for me and my journey.

Their favorite memories with their coaches

William Alexander: My favorite memory [with Reba McEntire] is actually from my blind audition, when I spoke about my grandfather and how much he meant to me, Reba got emotional as well which just made me that much more excited to work with her!!

The most surprising and heartfelt thing about being on the show

Anya True: The most surprising thing about being on The Voice has been the outpouring of support I’ve received…In the music industry it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, especially when you’re young, but my coaches and fellow contestants have supported me, believed in me, and grown my confidence.  For that, I’ll be forever grateful!

M: Being able to sing in front of such an amazingly talented panel of coaches has been one of the biggest highlights of my life. And to, on top of that, sing in Spanish? And represent my people? It was the best way for me to start my journey with The Voice.

    Their biggest cheerleaders

R: To be honest I have 4! First being my coach, Chance! Second, Dan & Shay! They both literally hype me up every time I’ve been in front of them… Last but truly my favorite, Asher HaVon! We have exchanged great conversations of confidence, appreciation and joy.

3 Heartfelt Ballads That Will Always Make Reba McEntire Cry Onstage

Reba McEntire is a seasoned vet when it comes to performing, but she’s still human. Speaking to Taste of Country Nights, the actor/country star revealed the three heartfelt ballads that always seem to make her cry when she sings them.

We asked if she’s ever broken down onstage, emotionally speaking, and it was an immediate yes.

“Lots of times,” McEntire confirms. “Over many many years.”

The songs that always take her down?

“‘Somebody Should Leave’ is the one song I would always just break up and cry, I mean it was a very sad song — still is,” she says.

After a long pause, McEntire revealed even more ballads that she finds difficult to sing live.

“‘She Thinks His Name Was John’ is another one that always got me,” she explains. “I guess the one that got me more than anything was ‘The Greatest Man I Ever Knew.’”

McEntire still tours and plays live concerts for fans, but certainly not to the degree that she once did. Per Concert Archives, she played just 20 live shows in 2023.

But she’s had a long career, during much of which she balanced acting with singing. McEntire has played an estimated more than 800 concerts since she made her debut in the mid-1970s — for scale, Dolly Parton has played roughly 500 concerts in her career.

Catch McEntire on this season of The Voice — she just completed her team and is ready for battle!

Evan Paul is the host of Taste of Country Nights, a syndicated radio show heard on more than 130 country radio stations nationwide, every night from 7PM to midnight. He plays the best new country music and interviews today’s top stars, like Luke Combs, Morgan Wallen, Kenny Chesney, Miranda Lambert, Dan + Shay, Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Chris Stapleton, Lady A, + more!

The 50 Saddest Country Songs of All Time

Each one of the 50 saddest country songs of all time tells a story. Some of those stories are about the pain of heartbreak, while others explore the grief of losing a loved one. Some are about more unconventional subject matter — from infertility to the loss of the beloved family dog — while others tap into the universal subjects of heartbreak and loneliness. Flip through the gallery below for a list of the saddest country songs, ever.

Reba McEntire is one of the most revered country stars of all time — but also in entertainment. She’s been successful as both an actor and a singer since the 1970s, and nearly 50 years later, she’s in headlines as much as ever. Look back at photos of Reba when she was younger, before she became the star we know today.

Twenty-eight-year-old accountant Ronnie Wilson gave a head-turning Blind Auditions performance on Tuesday night’s (March 12) episode of The Voice: So much so that he had both Coach John Legend and Coach Reba McEntire ready to pull out all the stops to impress him.

During his pitch, Legend forged some common ground with Wilson by pointing out that he, too, once worked in finance: Legend’s first job was as a management consultant at a consulting firm.

Meet Team Reba: Who's on Reba McEntire's Team on 'The Voice'?

But McEntire had something a little bit flashier than PowerPoint presentations up her sleeve: She whipped out her cell phone and pretended to dial up Keith Urban and his film star wife, Nicole Kidman.

“Nicole, would you put Keith on the line, please?” she said from her red coach’s chair. “Hey Keith, how ya doing? Yeah, we’re here at The Voice. If you were on the The Voice, who would you want to coach you? Me? Nicole said her too? Talk to you later. Bye.”

McEntire’s bid for Wilson’s attention wasn’t just a random mention of a fellow celebrity — though the young singer’s audition displayed his gospel roots, and he covered Zayn’s R&B hit “Pillowtalk,” he made it clear that country music was a favorite genre, too.

“So gospel music is a heavy influence, but also country music — a lot of country music,” Wilson revealed when Coach Chance the Rapper asked him about his favorite musical styles.

“You have a quality in your voice that just makes a person feel good,” McEntire told the young Voice hopeful. “And I’m thrilled to death that you love country music. I’ve been in the business for going on 50 years now, so I think I could help you to embellish, not change, because you’re absolutely wonderful. And I’d love to have you on my team.”

Reba McEntire Joins 'The Voice' as Coach for Season 24

Even that compelling pitch, and Urban’s (fake) vote of confidence, couldn’t sway Wilson over to Team Reba. He ultimately went with Coach John Legend.

The Voice has now wrapped Blind Auditions. The show will continue to air Monday and Tuesday nights on NBC.

Famous Singers from The Voice, Then + Now

Ten years (and counting) made a huge difference for many of the most popular singers and stars of The Voice. Blake Shelton looks noticeably different, but so do some of country music’s most memorable performers.

Winners like Cassadee Pope and Danielle Bradbery wore baby faces when they auditioned during their respective seasons. The same can be said for Morgan Wallen, a forgotten castmember from the show who’s transformed more than anyone else on this list of The Voice stars then and now.

Reba McEntire and boyfriend Rex Linn uesd to live their best lives on a yacht cruising around Italy, and being the country icon that she is, McEntire made time for some music during her vacation.

One clip shared by a fellow cruise goer shows McEntire obliging fans with some tunes during a nighttime event, performing a cover of Frankie Valli’s “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” and accompanying herself on the tambourine.

Rex Linn, seated next to her, also had a tambourine in hand, as did another woman further down the table. As the song ramped up to its climax, McEntire stood up to give her performance some extra star power as Linn shook his tambourine in perfect rhythm.

That wasn’t McEntire’s only vocal moment during her vacation, as additional videos captured by fans show the country star giving a true performance during the cruise, dressed in a white blazer and bedazzled top as she sang hits like “Can’t Even Get the Blues” and “Back To God” on a stage aboard the ship.

    Vacation To Italy

The Oklahoma native also used Instagram herself to document the vacation. “#toomuchfun in Italy!” she declared alongside a photo of herself and Linn smiling on a smaller boat, while a snap of McEntire at the National Railway Museum of Pietrarsa in Naples shared that she “had a great day” there.

    Celebrity Adventures’ Amalfi Coast Cruise

McEntire and Linn’s getaway was part of Celebrity Adventures’ Amalfi Coast Cruise, a 5-night trip around the Amalfi Coast in Southern Italy on the brand-new 624-foot super yacht from The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection.

The trip took place from August 18-24 and was half on Evrima, the first luxury super yacht from The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection. The boat was chartered exclusively for donors and celebrity guests, who also included Andrea Bocelli, David Foster, John Corbett, Bo Derek, Evander Holyfield, The London Essentials, Katharine McPhee, Michael W. Smith, Pia Toscano, Chris Tucker, John Maxwell and more.

Throughout the five days, the group visited Rome, Naples, Capri, Amalfi, Positano, and Malta. Donations for the trip for non-celebrity guests were $75,000 per person if the donor in question flew on the private charter jet, and $65,000 if they provided their own airfare.

How Did Reba McEntire And Rex Linn Meet?

McEntire and Linn first met in 1991 on the set of the Kenny Rogers movie The Gambler Returns: The Luck of the Draw and reconnected and began dating in 2020.

In 2022, McEntire called Linn “the love of [her] life” in an interview with PEOPLE, adding that “We’re pretty much inseparable.”

Their bond extends to their working life, as they played husband and wife on ABC’s crime thriller Big Sky: Deadly Trails.

“To play husband and wife, it’s natural for us,” McEntire said. “Rex and I rehearse all the time to make sure that when we step on that set, we’re not wasting anybody’s time. We’re professionals. We have our stuff together, we show up on time, we’re ready. We’re not holding up anybody because time is money on the TV set.”

McEntire and Linn also co-starred in the Lifetime movie The Hammer, released in January. Linn told TV Insider that while working on the movie, “every scene was fun for me” because he got to work with McEntire, adding, “We’ll wink at each other in the middle of a scene.”

He also praised his girlfriend’s acting ability, noting that McEntire “can look at a page of dialogue for five minutes and she’s ready to go.”

“She doesn’t stop moving,” he added of her work ethic. “I’m telling you, man, she’s like a great white shark. Can’t stop or they’ll die in the water. [Laughs] At least that’s what the scientists tell us.”

[Pictures] 40 Farms Across America Pay Homage to Reba McEntire With With Epic Corn Mazes

As we prepare to be immersed in pumpkin spice everything, more than 40 farms across America are gearing up for fall by paying tribute to a country music icon, Reba McEntire.

Corn is really showing out for the fall season this year — 40-plus farms in 24 different states have teamed up to etch McEntire’s face into their crops, and celebrate the redheaded Queen of Country Music.

This idea stems from the MAiZE Inc.: The McEntire-etched corn mazes can be found in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Indiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wyoming.

It’s not as easy to appreciate the work while walking through one of the Reba mazes — which are slated to open to the public on September 16 — as it is to check out the aerial views of the designs.

Just imagine how large of an area 5 acres is, then imagine McEntire’s face strewed across in, all beautifully carved in corn.

McEntire is proud to be a part of this, commenting:

“Growing up on a ranch in Oklahoma, I know how important agriculture is and I love being involved with something that brings more people out to farms across the country for good wholesome fun!”
You can see the exact locations of each maze, as well as its sketch, here. Each corn maze has a different theme, but with one central topic: Reba.

It’s hard to fathom the work that goes into this — all 40 of these corn mazes are unique and so beautifully done. Maybe someone out there will make it their duty to visit all 40 of them?

Gwen Stefani reveals Reba McEntire’s INCREDIBLE thing

Both independently and together, Blake Shelton and his pop superstar wife Gwen Stefani are used to the fandom that comes along with fame. During something as simple as a family road trip through their home turf in Oklahoma, it’s pretty common for fans to spot them out in public and stop them to say hi.

Gwen Stefani đã trực tiếp biết rằng lượng fan hâm mộ của Reba McEntire rất lớn ở Oklahoma [Xem]

“We went on a little road trip in Oklahoma just recently, with the boys, and we rolled up to some Dairy Queen,” Stefani recounts during an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show. “Like, you know, ‘Can we get an ice cream?’ And they’re like, ‘Oh my God, it’s Blake Shelton!’”

As Shelton chatted with fans and waiting on the family’s Blizzards, it quickly became clear that as big of a star as Shelton was, there was one local celebrity even bigger: Reba McEntire.

Gwen Stefani on Blake Shelton’s Reaction to Reba McEntire’s Fans

“She’s actually from Oklahoma,” Stefani reminds the show’s studio audience. “Which is funny, because now I’m a transplant because I married Blake, and it’s just kind of interesting, because she’s an Okie!”

That fact became very clear to Stefani and the rest of the crew after they hit the Dairy Queen, as they continued to see evidence of Reba everywhere in small-town Oklahoma.

“She’s like, ‘You should go over and see Reba’s Place [Restaurant], it’s right around the corner,’” Stefani continues. “And then we went into this thrift store, and there was a framed picture of Reba in there, signed. I was like, ‘Oh my God, there she is again!’ Then we went to some other Italian restaurant, and there was another framed picture of her. All in one day! It was everywhere.”

These days, Stefani is spending quite a bit of time with her fellow Okie: McEntire is a coach on the current season of The Voice alongside Stefani, Niall Horan and John Legend. She’s the replacement for Shelton, who ended his tenure as country coach after Season 23.

YOU WON’T BELIEVE WHAT THE CAST OF ‘REBA’ LOOKS LIKE NOW!

You know what Reba McEntire has been up to since Reba, but most of her castmates have stayed pretty busy, too! With rumors of a reboot of her early-’00s television show flying around like seagulls at the beach, it seemed like it’d be fun to see what the rest of the cast looks like these days.

Little Jake is all grown up. That rapscallion Van is a red-blooded stud. Brock is the FaceApp we all wish we had, and Cheyenne married herself a millionaire. A few of the stars of Reba are out of the business, but recent photos show each is thriving even after — in the case of one of the women on the show — a battle with anorexia.

The TV show Reba premiered on Oct. 5, 2001 and aired from then until 2007 on the WB and the CW Networks, and in recent years the main players (McEntire and Peterman among them) have talked about getting the gang together for even more fun. No firm plans have become public, and fans of the long-running family show might be disheartened by the lack of success of McEntire’s ABC follow-up Malibu Country and a pilot that didn’t get picked up a few years ago.

Reba McEntire is more than a country music legend. She’s also an accomplished actress. Over the years, she’s built a strong filmography with roles in both movies and TV shows. Among the roles she has played is June Ballard on the hit Big Bang Theory prequel Young Sheldon. McEntire appeared in a total of six episodes of the series.

McEntire first appeared on the show during season three. She returned for three episodes in season four and two more in season five. The show is currently in its seventh and final season with the finale set to air in May. Many are hoping that the “Fancy” singer will come back to reprise the role of June Ballard. The show’s executive producer, Steve Holland is among those who want to see her return.

In a recent interview with TVLine, Holland said he and the rest of the team hope to see McEntire return to the show before it ends. “We would love to have her back,” he said of the “I’m a Survivor” singer. That desire isn’t one-sided. “She’s expressed interest, but she’s very busy,” Holland said. “She has another sitcom pilot that she’s shooting. So, I just don’t know if it’s going to work out,” he added.

McEntire has her hands full. Along with the new sitcom she hopes to get off the ground, she’s on her second season as a coach on The Voice. So, it may be hard for her to find time to return to the Young Sheldon set before the show comes to an end.

McEntire’s former Reba co-star Melissa Peterman is a series regular on Young Sheldon. However, even when they appeared in the same episode of the show, they didn’t share a scene. Holland revealed that Peterman has been wanting to work with her former co-star again.

“It’s a thing that Melissa reminds us of often,” Holland said. “She would love to be in scenes with Reba. Part of the reason Reba’s on the show is because she and Melissa are close friends, and Melissa let us know that Reba is a fan,” he revealed.

Reba McEntire’s music career almost ended when her mother died. Jacqueline McEntire passed in March 2020 at the age of 93, after a battle with cancer. The heartbreak was unbearable for the country veteran.

The grief was so bad, in fact, it almost made the star quit her music career.

During a recent visit to Today, McEntire recounted the grieving process she went through with her siblings, Alice, Pake and Susie.

“We were cleaning out the house, and I was going through pictures. I said, ‘I just don’t think I wanna do this anymore,’” the “I’m a Survivor” singer recalls saying to her sister, Susie.

“She said, ‘What?’ I said, ‘Sing.’”

“She said, ‘Why?’ I said, ”Cause I always did it for Mama,’” McEntire reveals.

“She said, ‘Oh, you’ll get it back.’ I did.”

Susie was right, and the Oklahoma native has been able to channel her emotions into her music. Recently McEntire released “Seven Minutes in Heaven,” a touching song and video that allowed her to pay tribute to her late mother.

“When you find a song that really touches your heart and chokes you up — I gotta sing it. I gotta record it. That’s what you’re always looking for, is the song that touches your heart,” she explains. “That way, when I sing it, it’ll hopefully touch your heart, too.”

To take things a step further, the track’s music video features a special cameo resembling her mom, Jacqueline. McEntire says she sent the video to her siblings, and Susie called her about it. The two didn’t say much on the phone, but they shared plenty of tears.

“Seven Minutes in Heaven” isn’t the only musical tribute in McEntire’s catalog about her mother: In 2019, she memorialized Jacqueline with a song called “You Never Gave Up on Me,” which her mom was able to hear while she was still here.
