Dolly Parton reveals the hilarious reason why she turned down afternoon tea with Kate Middleton

Dolly Parton has revealed the hilarious reason why she turned down an invitation for tea with the Princess of Wales.

The country singer, 77, explained she received the coveted invitation from Kate Middleton, 41, whilst she was in London for work.

Whilst sharing her love of the capital, the Jolene singer admitted she almost brushed shoulders with the residents of Buckingham Palace, but unfortunately ‘couldn’t go’.

Dolly said during an appearance on BBC Radio 2: ‘This time, Lordy, I even got invited to have tea with Kate but I couldn’t even go.

‘I thought it was very sweet and nice of her to invite me and one of these days I’m going to get to do that – that would be great.’

Cheeky! Dolly Parton (pictured in May) has revealed the hilarious reason why she turned down an invitation for tea with the Princess of Wales

Respect: The country singer, 77, explained she received the coveted invitation from Kate Middleton, 41, (pictured in December) whilst she was in London for work

Then, in true Dolly Parton style, she cracked a joke as to what made her decline Kate’s invite. She said: ‘But she wasn’t going to promote my rock album so I had to say no.’

She explained her regret at not having explored more of the city while on tour, but concluded she didn’t ever have enough time to play tourist.

The singer told presenter and host Claudia Winkleman of her admiration for the capital.

Dolly said: ‘I love the people, the feel of London. I don’t unfortunately [get time to sightsee]. I have in the past, me and my band, in a tour bus when we have it planned.’

It comes after the star said she would rather ‘drop dead’ in the middle of a song on stage than hang up the microphone in a new interview.

Despite approaching a six decade-long career in the music industry, Dolly has no plans to retire.

‘I would never retire. I would hopefully drop dead in the middle of a song on stage someday – and hopefully one I’ve written – but that’s how I hope to go,’ she told Ken Bruce on Greatest Hits Radio.

‘I don’t have much of a choice in that but in the meantime, I’m going to make hay while the sun shines.’

Dolly owns a vast catalogue of some 3,000 songs, penning iconic belters such as Jolene and I Will Always Love You.

Missed out: The Jolene singer (pictured in June) admitted she almost brushed shoulders with the residents of Buckingham Palace, but unfortunately 'couldn't go'

While the country music sensation is determined to keep performing, she admitted she has scaled back her work schedule in some aspects.

‘I’m not touring anymore but I will continue to do special shows here and there now and then like a long weekend or festival shows,’ she said.

‘But as far as touring I think those days are pretty much behind me… you have to stay gone so long on a tour to make it productive and prosperous and that’s a lot of time at my age – I ain’t got no years to waste.’

Instead of living on the road, Dolly said she wants to host more TV shows or act in more movies.

‘I want to have my own story called The Life of Many Colours where I have a whole TV series of my life,’ she said.

‘Stuff that people haven’t seen or heard about me and where I come from and how I got to be how and who I am. The bad, the good and the ugly!’

‘So that’s one thing I want to do and then just host more TV shows, do more movies. I want to have my own line of makeup, own line of wigs and clothes.

‘Once you get to a certain place in your career you get a lot of offers and some of them are just really hard to turn down.’

The interview comes after Dolly’s announcement for her new album Rockstar; her 49th studio album, which is set to release in November.

The album will feature 30 songs – nine original tracks from Parton and 21 classic rock covers with collaborators such as Elton John, Sting, Pink and more.

EXCLUSIVE PICTURES: Dolly Parton’s reclusive husband of five decades Carl Dean seen out for the first time in 40 YEARS

Dolly Parton’s husband of 53-years Carl Dean was caught in a rare public sighting late last month.

The 77-year-old looked nondescript as he stepped out near the family estate in Brentwood, Tennessee aided by a personal assistant.

It was an unexpected outing for the ‘reclusive’ figure, who has been with country superstar Parton since 1964 but has avoided being photographed for a whole four decades.

Revealed: Dolly Parton's reclusive husband of 53-years Carl Dean was photographed for the first time in four decades late last month. He was spotted running errands near the family estate in Brentwood, Tennessee

Smitten: Dolly and Carl are seen in a vintage photograph above

Apparently Dean is partial to quite a reclusive lifestyle,  according to the National Enquirer.

A source explained: ‘He barely leaves the house and doesn’t really interact with people unless he absolutely has to – the total opposite of Dolly.’

‘Carl is still extremely reclusive and in any given week he will only leave the house a handful of times,’ they continued.

While the Jolene songstress and retired business owner Carl have been going strong for years, they’re reported to live quite independent lives.

‘Carl lives in a different building on the couple’s property in Brentwood, Tennessee,’ a source revealed.

Easy going: He was dressed modestly, rocking a light jacket, polo shirt and blue jeans

Rare outing: 'In any given week he will only leave the house a handful of times,' the insider continued

The couple first met outside of a Nashville laundromat in 1964. They were wed two years later in a small Ringgold, Georgia ceremony attended only by Dolly’s mom and the pastor’s wife.

Throughout their five-plus decades of marriage, Dean has eschewed the spotlight, opting not to appear at events or on red carpets with his love.

Dolly even admitted that her love has only seen her perform live one time when she sat down to talk on the Ellen DeGeneres show in 2011.

Still, the Islands In The Stream singer calls Dean her ‘biggest fan behind the scenes.’

Hitched: They were wed in 1966 in a small Ringgold, Georgia ceremony just two years after meeting

‘He’s always supporting me as long as I don’t try to drag him in on it,’ Parton told People during the October premiere of her Netflix project Heartstrings. ‘He’s always been my biggest fan behind the scenes, but he’s at home.’

Despite their differences, Dolly is very protective of her and Carl’s relationship.

‘She still loves him with all her heart but they’re largely living separate lives and have been for some time,’ a source told the Enquirer.

Dolly has long said that the distance keeps their love strong.

Distant admirer: Dolly admitted that her love has only seen her perform live one time. The star is seen February of 2019 above

‘I always joke and laugh when people ask me what’s the key to my long marriage and lasting love,’ Parton told People in 2018. ‘I always say “Stay gone!” and there’s a lot of truth to that. I travel a lot, but we really enjoy each other when we’re together and the little things we do.’

The child-free couple reportedly renewed their wedding vows back in 2016 to mark their 50th anniversary.

Though the couple prefer to keep their relationship private, Dolly has assured fans that their love is steadfast.

‘We’re really proud of our marriage,’ the Islands In The Stream singer said of their union in 2011. ‘It’s the first for both of us. And the last.’

That doesn’t mean their relationship has been without drama.

Dolly admitted that she once had ‘an affair of the heart’ in the 2017 book Dolly On Dolly: Interviews And Encounters With Dolly Parton.

‘It just about killed me,’ she revealed in an interview, ‘I cried an ocean. But I ain’t gonna talk about it anymore. I’ve got to keep some mystery.’

Still, Parton has said that trust is at the foundation of her relationship with Dean, which she described as ‘open’ but not ‘sexually.’

‘He’s not jealous and I’m not jealous of him. He knows I flirt. He flirts too. Yes, it’s an open relationship, but not sexually and I would kill him if I thought he was doing that. He would shoot me too. At the end of the day we love each other madly,’ she said.

Beyonce’s Act II comes out on March 29!

    dolly parton and beyonce

Dolly Parton may have just leaked some exciting news about Beyoncé’s upcoming album, Act II: Cowboy Carter.

Beyoncé is stepping into the world of country, and covering a Dolly Parton song may just be on her country music to-do list. In a recent interview with Knox News, Parton hinted at the possibility of Beyonce covering her 1973 hit “Jolene.” “Well, I think she has! I think she’s recorded ‘Jolene’ and I think it’s probably gonna be on her country album, which I’m very excited about that,” Parton told Know News.

Dolly Parton Thinks Beyonce Recorded a 'Jolene' Cover for Upcoming Country Album

Parton has, thus far, been nothing but supportive of Beyoncé and her entrance into the country music space. “I love her! She’s a beautiful girl and a great singer,” the “9 to 5” singer said. Dolly even gave Beyoncé a shoutout on her Instagram when her single “Texas Hold ‘Em” hit number one on the Billboard Hot Country Chart, making her the first Black woman in history to do so. “I’m a big fan of Beyoncé and very excited that she’s done a country album. So congratulations on your Billboard Hot Country number one single. Can’t wait to hear the full album,” Dolly wrote on Instagram.

Beyonce first announced her album and dropped two singles, “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages,” in February. She revealed the surprise in a Verizon commercial during the Super Bowl. As for the remaining songs on Act II, Beyonce has her lips sealed until its official release on March 29.

Beyoncé 'Jolene' cover? Dolly Parton says it may appear on new 'Cowboy Carter' album

Considering country is not Beyonce’s default genre (Act I: Renaissance consisted of her usual dance tracks), her new music has found some detractors. Dolly came to her defense once again saying, “A lot of people don’t realize Beyoncé is a country girl. She’s from Texas. I think we belong wherever we can do good, and her song is number one across every chart in the whole world, I think. So, I mean, who can argue with that?” Dolly said in her Know News interview.

For now, we’ll have to wait until March 29 to see whether or not “Jolene” made the cut for Cowboy Carter.

Dolly Parton’s Family Hated The Way She Looked Before Becoming A Hollywood Legend

Dolly Parton’s unqiue style became one of her calling cards but her family hated the way she looked early in her life.

Dolly Parton’s family did not approve of the way she dressed and tried to get her to change.
Parton’s fashion choices were judged by both the media and her family, but she stayed true to herself.
Despite her family’s disapproval of her clothes, Parton had a deep love for her grandpa and was extremely close with her parents.

When Dolly Parton’s career began, she was known as a country music star. However, that has changed over time as Parton became so universally respected that she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Parton has also notably become very rich thanks to everything she has accomplished.

Before any of that, however, Parton was an unknown singer from a huge family. In an ideal world, the members of Parton’s family would always have supported who she is. The reality of the situation is that Parton’s family hated the way she looked as she was trying to launch her career.

Dolly Parton’s Family Tried To Change The Way She Looked

Of course, Dolly Parton has written and recorded a slew of songs that mean the world to her fans. No matter how impressive that is, however, it can still be argued that the most incredible thing about Parton is who she is offstage. With that in mind, it is sad that her family did not approve of how she expressed herself.

    Dolly Parton

Seemingly born with an innate vision for herself, one of the most interesting aspects of Parton’s career is her fashion sense. After all, Parton spent years getting blowback about her clothes from people who were ignorant about how smart she is.

For the most part, it has been people in the media who’ve judged Parton’s clothes in the past. However, it turns out that Parton’s family also used to hate the way she dressed, and they went to extremes in an attempt to get her to change.

Why Dolly Parton Marrying Carl Dean Was One Of The Most Rebellious Things She Ever Did

In 2023, Parton was interviewed by Howard Stern for his radio show. At one point in the resulting conversation, Stern and Parton had an in-depth conversation about people judging the way she dresses. Amazingly enough, Parton admitted to Stern that she was even struck by members of her family, partially because of her fashion choices.

Where did Dolly Parton grow up according to Biography?

    Born on January 19, 1946
    Born in Locust Ridge, Tennessee
Has described her family as “dirt poor”

At one point in their interview, Stern asked Parton if she had to deal with the casting couch early in her career. In response, Parton stated that she was never physical with anyone for that reason. However, Parton went on to own that she knew her fashion choices would affect powerful men in the entertainment industry.

    Dolly Parton looking rebellious

“I was pretty sharp too. I was pretty clever and knowing the nature of men and understanding that. If I was going to dress like I dressed and look like I looked, I would have been disappointed if somebody hadn’t noticed me or, you know, have paid attention to me.”

In response to Parton’s comments, Stern explained what about her fashion choices interests him.

The Real Reason Dolly Parton Wears Long Gloves Has Nothing To Do With Wanting To Hide Her Tattoos

“The whole Dolly look, the whole persona, I find fascinating. You saw the town, whatever they called it back then, the town tr**p or something and you said to yourself, ‘Wow. That’s an outrageous look. I’m going to dress like that. And your grandpa, did he hit you or something because of the way you were dressing?”

After Parton laughed out loud at Stern’s question, she went on to explain how much her family hated the way she dressed.

“Well, my grandpa was just always preaching to me. You know, looking like, he would just call me Jezebel and which. I love my grandpa. He was great but he’d always say, ‘Don’t you want to go to heaven?’ And my famous line is that I would say. I would get smacked around just for sassing, you know. I’d say something like, ‘Yeah, I want to go to heaven but do I have to look like hell when I get there or to get there?’ And then you got to get your, you know, backhanded or something”

Based on Parton’s comments to Stern, it seems clear that she deeply loves her grandpa whether he disapproved of her clothes or not. Unfortunately for Parton, however, it wasn’t just her grandpa who was angry about her clothes as she explained to Stern.

“I was pretty outgoing and I just knew how I was going to look. That daddy couldn’t whip it out of me, mamma couldn’t talk it out of me, and grandpa couldn’t preach it out of me. I was going to look the way I looked and I still do because that is how I felt.”

Was Dolly Parton Close With Her Parents?

Based on today’s standards, Dolly Parton’s description of how her family reacted to her fashion is shocking. With that in mind, it would make sense if some people assumed that Parton wasn’t close with her parents.

Dolly Parton at the launch of her new album 'Rockstar'

No matter what people may assume, Parton actually was extremely close with her parents before their passings. A perfect example of that is the fact that Parton has taken great pride in buying gifts for her parents. In 2015, Parton discussed the cars she gifted to her parents once her music career took off.

Who were Dolly Parton’s parents according to People?

Robert Lee Parton Sr. and Avie Lee Parton
    Married in 1939
    Had 12 children
One of their children passed away at four days old
Dolly Parton’s song “Coat of Many Colors” was inspired by her mom
Took pride in Dolly Parton’s career

First off, Parton spoke about the truck she got for her father.

“It was always my wish to do something great for my family. I loved my daddy and my mama. My daddy always drove a truck. I bought my daddy a big blue truck, and he was always so proud of that. He never would trade it in. He kept it. The truck is still very much in the family today. Daddy’s gone now, but I still have the truck. It’s on some of the property that I bought that daddy used to own,”

Dolly Parton Doesn't Think She's A "Natural Beauty"

Parton then went on to describe the series of cars she got for her mom since she was willing to trade them in.

“That same year, I bought my mama a Cadillac. Of course, I traded hers in every few years, and she was so proud of that. The last one was a gold Cadillac. That went back to me when Mama passed on. I wouldn’t take nothing for it. My husband drives it a lot. Because it was Mama’s car, and I still drive it some, I call it the ‘Dolly-Mama.’ Everybody knows not to mess with the Dolly-Mama, because that was such a precious thing. I was always proud that I could do for my family when I started making some money.”

Dolly Parton had been married for years but that didn’t stop David Letterman from asking her to marry him.

    Highlights

David Letterman was infatuated with Dolly Parton’s looks and personality during her appearance on his show in 1987.
Letterman made flirtatious remarks to Parton and even asked her to marry him, despite her being married at the time.
Dolly Parton has been happily married to Carl Dean since 1966.

During David Letterman’s career, he interviewed most of the top music stars. In most cases, Letterman didn’t seem fazed by sharing the stage with music legends, which makes sense, since he was rich and successful enough to enjoy an incredible lifestyle.

Similar to Letterman, music supertsar Dolly Partonbecame extremely rich and famous. However, it wasn’t Parton’s riches that Letterman was struck by. Instead, Letterman clearly couldn’t get enough of Parton’s personality and looks which is why he asked her to marry him.

Why Did David Letterman Ask Dolly Parton To Marry Him?

Throughout Dolly Parton’s time in the public eye, she has always been known for her flashy fashion choices. While Parton’s family hated the way she dressed, David Letterman clearly enjoyed the way the country legend looked.

    Dolly Parton

When Parton appeared on Late Night with David Letterman in 1987, she came out wearing a typically eye-catching outfit. Mostly made up of black clothing that looked pretty skin-tight, Parton’s outfit also featured shiny silver highlights.

Of course, Parton was also sporting her trademark large hair that always made her stand out. Between her clothes, makeup, and hair, it seemed like Letterman was instantly taken with Parton when she walked out onstage.

David Letterman Asked Dolly Parton To Marry Him

Instead of simply greeting Parton as he normally did with his guests, Letterman kissed the singer’s hand and pulled her in close to his side. With his hand around Parton’s waist, it looked as if Letterman was showing off her looks to the camera and studio audience. Letterman then proceeded to comment on how he and Parton looked like as a pair at that moment.

“I think we look good together. Don’t you think we look nice together? We should work together. We’ll go out and do shows together.”

Once Letterman removed his hand from Parton’s waist, the two of them sat down. However, Letterman almost instantly said something that could have indicated an attraction to Parton or could have been entirely innocent. “Boy, you smell great.”

Tripadvisor’s #1 Theme Park in the United States
Ticket Awards for Best Kids’ Area
Ticket Awards for Best Christmas Event
Ticket Awards for Best Guest Experience

From there, the pair then proceeded to have a fairly typical interview for several minutes. Letterman asked Parton about Dollywood, the theme park the country singer had recently bought and begun running at the time of the interview.

    David Letterman

At the end of Letterman and Parton’s discussion about Dollywood, the country singer asked the host to come to her theme park. As Parton pitched Letterman on coming to Dollywood and maybe even filming part of his show there, she said something he easily could have been insulted by.

“I want you to come down sometime and, cause I know you do fun stuff on your show and what you like. It would be a good place for you to come and act stupid and have fun doing it.”

When Letterman and his studio audience had a big reaction to Parton’s comments, she tried to clarify what she meant. “I didn’t mean it bad. I meant fun stuff.”

Dolly Parton interview with Barbara Walters

Throughout David Letterman’s career, he has dealt with many celebrities taking verbal shots at him. In most of those cases, Letterman has used his infamously sharp tongue to unleash a savage comeback at those guests.

When Dolly Parton said something to David Letterman that he could have been insulted by, he didn’t have a witty retort. On top of that, Letterman didn’t seem to have much interest in Parton’s clarification. Instead, Letterman’s only response was to ask Parton to become his wife.

“Please, please marry me. Please. Will you consider it?”

Why Dolly Parton Marrying Carl Dean Was One Of The Most Rebellious Things She Ever Did

After Parton stated she would consider Letterman’s request, the host asked her a follow-up question. “Are you married now?” In a truly hilarious moment, Parton confirmed she was married at the time which the studio audience laughed uproariously at. At this moment, Letterman’s trademark wit seemed to come back to him.

“You’re married now, but yet, you’re gonna consider marrying me? Well, don’t expect to treat me that way if we get married.”

Who Have Dolly Parton And David Letterman Been Married To?

When Dolly Parton told David Letterman she was married during their 1987 interview, it was far from a new marriage for the country singer. Instead, Parton has been married since the ’60s, and she seems to be very happy from all reports.

David Letterman interview with Salma Hayek

After Dolly Parton and Carl Dean got married in 1966, they have been together ever since. Furthermore, there has never even been a hint of a suggestion that Parton or her husband have been romantically interested in anyone else. In 2022, Parton spoke to ET Canada and revealed two key factors that have allowed her marriage to last. First off, Parton credited each of them having their own space.

“I like it when people say, ‘How did it last so long?’ I say, ‘It’s stay going. You know, there’s a lot to be said about that. So, we’re not in each other’s face all the time. He’s not in the business so we have different interests, but yet we have the things we love to do together. So it was meant to be, I think. He was the one I was supposed to have and vice versa.”

Secondly, Parton credited her lasting marriage to having a similar sense of humor as her husband.

“We both have a warped sense of humor. And I think humor, honestly, is one of the best things when you’re married like that. Even if you have a problem, if you have a great sense of humor, if you say something you can’t take back [you] usually have some crazy way of getting out of it.”

David Letterman and his wife Regina Lasko

Unlike Parton, Letterman’s love life has been a lot more tumultuous. After all, Letterman infamously engaged in affairs and someone tried to blackmail him over them. Much to the shock of the blackmailer, Letterman decided to go public with his affairs instead of being extorted.

Who has David Letterman been involved with according to Whos Dated Who?

After three years together are there wedding bells in their future? Find out!

Some say that falling in love boils down to timing, and that was definitely the case for country music superstar Reba McEntire and her boyfriend of three years, CSI actor Rex Linn.

Though the two first met almost 30 years ago, romance didn’t blossom for the two entertainers until early 2020…and during the pandemic, to boot. But through bonding over their similar upbringings in Oklahoma, a passion for food and being each other’s biggest fans, they have been going strong ever since

Here the surprising and sweet ways Rex Linn courted Reba — and the secrets to their success.

How Rex Linn and Reba meet?

McEntire and Linn met in 1991 while they both were working on the Kenny Rogers movie The Gambler Returns: The Luck of the Draw. “Reba is so sweet about it. She always says we met working on a movie,” Linn recently told Southern Living.

“This is how we were working on it. She was co-starring with Kenny Rogers and I had two lines and one day of work. On a horse that I rode into a saloon and go, ‘Yee Haw!’ I love how she tells everybody though, we were ‘working on a movie together.’”

At the time, McEntire was married to her manager Narvel Blackstock, with whom she shares a 32-year-old son, Shelby. Blackstock and McEntire two divorced in 2015 after 26 years of marriage, and she then dated Anthony “Skeeter” Lasuzzo from 2017 to 2019. But through it all she and Linn drifted in and out of each other’s lives like ships in the night.

The two reconnected when McEntire was filming an episode of Young Sheldon, the popular CBS sitcom where Linn portrays the local high school principal.

“We kept in contact over the years, we both know the same people,” McEntire shared during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in November 2020. “So it was just like good friends getting back together and having dinner…then we started texting and talking on the telephone and getting to know each other better during the quarantine.”

What was Rex Linn and Reba’s first date like?

The couple discovered they had a lot in common. McEntire is a proud Okie, raised in Chockie, Oklahoma and Linn was born in Texas, but moved to Oklahoma when he was a child. They both love rodeo — she was a barrel racer and he was a team roper.

They both love music, and of course, acting has been a huge part of both their lives. When they reconnected on Young Sheldon, Linn asked McEntire out to dinner, but actually thought she was still dating her previous boyfriend and expected her to bring him.

“The last time I had seen Reba, the year before, she was dating someone,” he shared with Southern Living.  “So I actually thought her then-boyfriend was going to be with her. I had no idea…I didn’t know it was a date at the time, like everybody else did, but I sure had a good time and I sure am glad I went to dinner.”

How did Rex Linn and Reba fall in love?

Although a relationship looked promising, life got in the way. McEntire’s mother passed away and the world shut down due to the pandemic. McEntire was living in Oklahoma while Linn was still in LA. The couple spent time getting to know each other better through texts and phone calls and when Linn decided to take it up a notch, he says he decided, “the best way I could flirt with Reba was to send her good food.”

They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Well it turns out, it’s a pretty good way to court a cowgirl too.

His first gift was the famous beef tenderloin from Perini Ranch Steakhouse out of Buffalo Gap, Texas, a culinary delight that Linn’s brother had introduced him to because he loved it and knew brother Rex would as well. The tasty treats continued as Linn sent Joe’s Stone Crab from Miami as well as Cajun food, ice cream from a shop in Santa Barbara, and pecan pie from Goode Company in Houston.

As pandemic isolation gave way to the world returning to normal, McEntire and Linn were able to share meals together in person and have become a thriving couple.

“If you’re lucky and fortunate enough to find someone and fall in love with someone who has the same interests and the same ideals you have, and happens to be from the same part of the country, it means a lot,” Linn said to Southern Living. “It’s funny because Reba and I talk about our childhoods all the time, and they are identical. I mean I grew up in a little, bitty town, Spearman, Texas, in the panhandle. Just like the little town she grew up in. And our stories about our grandmothers cooking with Crisco Oil [for example]. There are just so many common threads involved.”

What have Rex Linn and Reba been in recently?

Not only do they enjoy music and travel, but they’ve also enjoyed working together too. The couple starred as husband and wife Sunny and Buck Barnes on the third and final season of ABC’s Big Sky. “Rex and I had a great time. We really enjoy working together,” she told FIRST for Women in 2022.

Reba and Rex played Sunny and Buck Barnes, owners of Sunny Day Excursions, which operates hunting and camping trips in a small Montana town.

The couple also worked together earlier this year in The Hammer, a Lifetime movie where Reba portrayed a traveling circuit court judge and Linn portrayed a mysterious cowboy named Bart Crawford. “I thought it was really neat that he made a very handsome mysterious cowboy, too,” Reba told Yahoo Entertainment.

Reba also credits Linn with helping her improve her acting chops. “He helped me tremendously,” she says. “By the time we got to do our scenes together, it was just like talking to each other. He’s a great actor, and I just get the biggest kick out of the way he chooses to do a scene and then change it up and do it some other way. I’ve learned a lot from him.”

What does Rex Linn think of Reba being on ‘The Voice’?

Most recently, Linn cheered Reba’s new appointment as a judge on NBC’s The Voice and posted a playful snapshot of McEntire pretending to press her button to spin her chair and vie for a singer to join her team. He wrote the caption: “There’s a new judge in town!!! @nbcthevoice #thevoice #fancy,”

Will Rex Linn and Reba get married?

From the looks of Linn’s frequent and loving Instagram support of Reba, whom he affectionately calls “tater tot,” he is smitten…and so is she.

“He’s ‘sugar tot’” she tells Extra with a laugh. “We’ve talked about [marriage] and giggled about it. We thought, ‘Man if we ever had a ceremony, we would have to have a 2 o’clock, 4 o’clock, 6 o’clock and at 8 o’clock ‘cause we have so many friends, acquaintances, and family.”

But for now, they are both grateful just to have each other. “It was really sweet of God to put Rex into my life in this time in my life,” Reba told Southern Living, and Linn agreed. “It took me 63 years to find it, but it’s worth the wait.”

Romance has been known to blossom just about everywhere, especially on film and television sets — That’s why Young Sheldon’s Iain Armitage feels somewhat responsible for Reba McEntire’s romance with actor Rex Linn.

“I’m a giant Reba McEntire fan,” says the 15-year-old, who stars as Sheldon Cooper on the hit CBS series Young Sheldon, a prequel the The Big Bang Theory.

“They really got together on our show. Ms. Reba was on our show playing Ms. Annie Potts’ friend and Mr. Rex Lynn, of course, is our high school principal on the show. So I feel like I get to take partial credit for that.”

As to whether he was quick to recognize their budding romance, Armitage smiles and admits he didn’t notice at first. “Well as much as I would like to say I did, I’m not too good with reading things like that, but now that they are together, I’ve got to say that they are one of the cutest couples ever and I just love them so much.”

“It’s not my first time in Tennessee. I’ve gone to Memphis, but it’s my first time in Nashville. I kind of want to move here,” he smiles. “This is such a beautiful place with incredible, kind, lovely, wonderful people. I love to say, ‘It’s a big city with small town energy,’ and that’s exactly how it feels.”

The final season of Young Sheldon

The seventh and final season of Young Sheldon, premiered on CBS last night (February 15) and Armitage says he’s still coming to terms with the end of the hit show. “I’ve stayed strong and so far, I haven’t shed a single tear but you know that’s going to change in a few months,” he admits.

“I’m very sad about it ending, but I’m happy and feel so lucky that I’ve gotten to have so many years of doing this wonderful show and work with such wonderful people.”

Reba McEntire Has Been ‘Trying Hard to Do a Reboot’ of the ‘Reba’ Show

Reba McEntire Has Been ‘Trying Hard to Do a Reboot’ of the ‘Reba’ Show

Reba McEntire, who will embark on an upcoming fall arena tour with Terri Clark, recently called in to The Bobby Bones Show to discuss the various projects she has been working on, from her tour to the upcoming Lifetime movie The Hammer, to her Atoka, Okla. restaurant Reba’s Place — and of course, her Emmy-nominated TV series Reba.

“We’ve really been trying hard to do a reboot of the Reba show,” McEntire said of the show during her interview, which ran from 2001 to 2007. “I really want to work with the people that I got to work with during that six and a half years. It was fun, the cast the crew everybody we got to work with and play with, they were wonderful people. We wanted to get back together like a reunion and have fun, so hopefully that will happen one day.”

    More from Billboard

In the meantime, she’s co-starring with boyfriend Rex Linn and Reba castmate Melissa Peterson in Lifetime’s upcoming movie The Hammer — about a circuit court judge — which the country star is also executive producing. McEntire said the film is currently in its final editing stages, and estimates a January release date.

McEntire also told Bones that she has been personally involved in every detail of Reba’s Place, dreaming up the look and feel of the venue. She oversaw the selections of everything from the colors of the drapes, designs of plates and silverware, to menu options, and confirmed that she plans to visit the restaurant whenever she is in town, so lucky fans might just get treated to an appearance — an possibly performance — from the restaurant’s famous owner.

“It’s a dream come true to do something close to my hometown,” she said. “It’s not only a fun thing to get to do, but to check in and see how things are doing, or make scheduled stops. I might get up on the stage and do a few songs. You never know what will happen.”

Speaking of restaurants, McEntire was also asked whether she uses her own name or a fake name when making a restaurant reservation.

“I use my name, especially if it’s a restaurant that is hard to get into. It’s so funny, sometimes I’ll say, ‘Will you please get us a reservation at 6:30 tonight for five people? She’s come back and say, ‘Can’t get in.’ I’ll say, ‘Did you use my name?’ and she’ll say ‘No.’ I’ll say, ‘OK, Try that,’ and she’ll come back and say, ‘Still couldn’t get in,’” the star said with a laugh.

If you were one of the 123 million people who watched the Super Bowl this year, you remember how enthusiastic Taylor Swift was as she cheered on Travis Kelce and the rest of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Many viewers thought it was vibes, but then, there was also a report that her behavior had upset Reba McEntire, who was there to sing the national anthem.

A Facebook page called America Loves Liberty wrote that “Reba McIntire [sic] [talked] about how disappointed she was to look up at the big screen while performing the National Anthem, only to see Taylor Swift laughing and drinking and making a mockery of the event.” It also claimed that Reba said, “I let her have it afterward. She’s an entitled little brat.”

But Reba would like everyone to know that this simply isn’t true.

Reba McEntire, 68, makes history at “The Voice”

Reba McEntire, 68, makes ‘Voice’ debut, makes history as show’s oldest and most seasoned coach

The country queen, Blake Shelton’s long-hyped replacement, finally ascended to her red throne on the Season 24 premiere.

May 2023 marked the end of a Voice era, when the series’ most popular coach, Blake Shelton, finally exited the show after 23 consecutive seasons (nine of which he won). Actually, the instant that Blake announced his Voice retirement, way back in October 2022 — and then shamelessly milked his long goodbye for much of Seasons 22 and 23 — speculation began running rampant regarding which A-lister, presumably from Nashville, could possibly fill his big boots (or his big spinning chair). Eventually, country mega-star (and last season’s Mega-Mentor) Reba McEntire was cast as Blake’s replacement — and on Monday’s The Voice Season 24 premiere, the redhead finally, officially ascended to her red throne.

Reba’s addition to the rotating (no pun intended) Voice cast was exciting for many reasons, not the least of which being the fact that at age 68, she made history as the series’ oldest and most experienced coach. After so many early seasons when The Voice was dominated by alpha males Adam Levine and Blake’s bromance (it took until Season 11 for the show even have more than one female coach on the panel at the same time), and more recent seasons featuring Gen Z/millennial-baiting castings like Ariana Grande, Chance the Rapper, Camila Cabello, Nick Jonas, Miley Cyrus and even reigning champ Niall Horan, to see a talent-show judge who’s been in the business since before even Star Search was on the air was refreshing indeed.

Reba received a welcome fit for a country queen, arriving to Monday’s premiere via horseback like some particularly memorable Bachelor contestant, ceremonially cutting the satin ribbon on her chair with a giant pair of Edward Scissorhands-style shears and flaunting a rhinestone-cowgirl tiara and matching scepter throughout most of the two-hour episode. Niall — who joined Reba on the panel alongside returning on/off coaches John Legend and Blake’s other half, Gwen Stefani — kept calling himself “The King of The Voice” due to his recent victory, but it was obvious pretty early on in this premiere that he’d already been dethroned. At one point in the show, Reba even sat in Niall’s throne, on his lap, to establish her dominance.

All of Reba’s new rivals did their best to stay in the game — and, to their credit, they did manage to lure some of Monday’s singers away from Reba. Gwen dropped Blake’s name so often, that ought to be Season 24’s new drinking game. Niall invoked Blake constantly as well, even playing various pre-recorded soundbites of Blake — who’d “passed the torch” to him last season — singing his praises. All three coaches offered snazzy recruitment incentives, too: a leather baseball jacket for Team Legend members, a checkered L.A.M.B. hoodie for Team Gwen, a colorful happy-face sweatshirt for Team Niall. But all Reba had to do was offer a less lasting prize, tater tots (yes, tater tots), to tempt contestants.

I will say, based on Monday’s premiere, other than that stunt when she practically literally knocked Niall out of his own chair, Reba doesn’t play nearly as dirty as her predecessor, Blake. That’s because she likely won’t have to. She can leave the shady gameplay to Blake’s successor, Niall, who explained Monday, “Blake taught me you do absolutely anything to get a team member.”

It’s going to be an interesting season. Here’s what went down Monday:

    Jordan Rainer, 33: “Fancy”

Of course the first contestant of the season was a sassy female country singer — doing a Reba-popularized classic, yet. Jordan said the Bobbie Gentry story-song was “written by a strong woman, made famous by a strong woman, and it represents lyrically what women do to survive.. … I feel that song in every bone in my body.” And Jordan’s bold personality (she explained that she wears Woman-in-Black/Hamburglar outlaw attire “because it bothers my mother”) and snappy, conversational singing style made her clear Team Reba material.

Who turned? All four coaches, three of which never stood a chance. Niall declared that he wants to win this season with “a real, real deep country singer”— but the King of The Voice might never achieve that goal as long as the Queen of Country is around.

    Result: Team Reba, of course.

    Joslynn Rose, 16: “Arcade”

Joslynn had a dulcet indie voice reminiscent of last season’s winner, Team Niall songstress Gina Miles — but she could really belt as well. She was impressively, authentically emotive for someone so young. Reba called Joslynn an “old soul.” Gwen called her “dynamic and stylistic.” And Niall (who made a point to say, “I was 16 when I came on a show like this!” — that’s another potential Season 24 drinking game) called Joslynn’s Duncan Laurence cover a “goosebump moment.”

Who turned? Reba, Gwen and Niall.

Result: Team Gwen. I think Joslynn would’ve been a great fit for Niall, but maybe her decision came down to preferring Team Gwen’s more fashion-forward keepsake sweatshirt over Team Niall’s, which looked like it was purchased at Aahs! or Spencer’s Gifts.

Deejay Young, 33: “This Woman’s Work”

This Hamilton touring cast member was, unsurprisingly, a true showman — Reba observed, “This ain’t your first rodeo!” Deejay possessed an effortless falsetto that Niall called “undeniably insane,” and after he elegantly crooned the Maxwell version of Kate Bush’s classic weeper, John praised his “beautiful ability to combine the feminine and masculine in one song.”

Who turned? John, Reba and Gwen. Niall later expressed regret that he’d refrained.

Result: Team Legend. No shock there — Deejay said John’s Get Lifted album literally changed his life.

Sophia Hoffman, 18: “Tell Me You Love Me”

Sophia auditioned last season and turned no chairs. But she was a changed woman this season, attacking Demi Lovato’s advanced-level rock ballad like a seasoned pro. She came across like a baby Taylor Dayne, a classic throwback diva, while Niall detected some “J.Hud grit” in her power vocals. “I am thrilled to death you came back,” Reba told Sophia. Reba then threw her new rival under the bus by pointing out that Niall — the only returning coach from last season — had failed to hit his button for Sophia the first time around.

    Who turned? Reba and Niall.

Result: Team Niall. I guess we can’t rule out Niall just yet.

Jackson Snelling, 21: “If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away”

Jackson emotionally dedicated this Justin Moore ballad to his late father and showcased an extremely recordable classic-country voice that Reba described as “honest” and “rich, like great chocolate.” When Jackson proudly announced onstage that he has high-functioning autism and music has been a big help to him in life, Reba told him, “I am so proud to be in the country music business, and so proud that you’re representing us.”

    Who turned? Gwen and Reba.

Result: Team Reba. Like Niall, Gwen really wants a country artist this season, so of course she unashamedly bragged that she’s had two No. 1 country hits with her husband. Reba called Gwen out on her constant namedropping (“Oh, you’re pulling that card now? Is that fair?”), and readily pointed out that she’s had “more than two” country No. 1’s herself (24, to be exact). To quote Reba: “Next!”

    Alexa Wildish, 34: “Songbird”

In her pre-performance package, Alexa was marketed as a van-living, kooky free spirit, jumping and high-kicking with an electric guitar in a red Meg White jumpsuit. So, I expected her to be a rocker. I did not expect this lovely, plaintive Fleetwood Mac cover, which Niall even declared would make the late Christine McVie proud. Both Niall and Reba noted a few pitch issues, but they could tell that was because Alexa was overcome with emotion (a single glistening tear actually leaked from her eye during her performance). “I got a really peaceful feeling when you were singing. I will take what you delivered over pitch-perfection any day,” Reba assured Alexa. John called Alexa “angelic” and “mesmerizing,” and Gwen told her, “The way you sing sounds like you’re a songwriter. … There was just something so real about it.”

    Who turned? All four coaches.

Result: Team Niall. “How do you make a choice like this?” Alexa gasped, and to be honest, this one could have gone any which way. But Niall seemed to want Alexa most — he was wooing her so aggressively that John joked that it seemed like Niall was about to propose marriage — so this will likely be a good match.

Olivia Minogue, 19: “Lay Me Down”

This woman had the marquee-worthy name of a pop diva, but her performance started off shaky, with awkward phrasing and pacing. However, once she got into “that raspier, bluesier side” of her voice, which was Niall’s “favorite part,” she got a lot more interesting. She’s no Rodrigo and she’s no Kylie, but Niall thought she was a “diamond.” She could be a diamond in the rough.

Who turned? John, Niall, and Reba.

Result: Team Niall. John and Reba knew they didn’t have a shot once Olivia, an avowed Directioner, flashed her prized Niall Horan pendant necklace and got all weak-kneed when Niall gave her a hug. Niall didn’t even need to namedrop his “good friend,” Sam Smith, to land this contestant.

    Kristen Brown, 24: “Blown Away”

A former member of teen country girl group Auburn Road, Kristen’s solo vocals lacked power. This Carrie Underwood barnstormer was way too big for her, and suffice to say, she did not blow me away. But country expert Reba and the country-adjacent Gwen detected potential. “I heard a few little pitch things, but your enthusiasm was wonderful,” said Reba, promising Kristen she would dole out the tough love and “tell you what you need to hear.”

    Who turned? Gwen and Reba.

Result: Team Gwen! Even Gwen seemed shocked, gasping, “What?” I think Kristen made a big mistake here, because she could have flourished more under the guidance of disciplinarian Reba than with the gentle and enabling Gwen (who vowed to “mother” Kristen). But Kristen does sound more like a pop singer than a country crooner, so maybe her decision will make more sense later on.

Mara Justine, 21: “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”

As per usual with Voice premieres, the episode saved the best for last. This ingenue had a truly distinctive throaty, sultry tone, with incredible mastery of her lower register. (“You have such a soft-spoken voice to have such a big voice,” Reba marveled, while Gwen said, “Your voice has so many beautiful parts to it.”) Mara made Elton’s oft-covered classic her own with some interesting and unexpected choices, and she had a lot of sparkle and swagger — the girl’s already a star. Niall told her she’d “set the bar high” for the season, and John called her a “magical gem.”

    Who turned? All four coaches.

    Result: Team… to be continued!

Yep, the premiere ended with a cliffhanger. I think it’s all going to come down to Niall, who pulled out all the obnoxious stops (doing that head-pointy gesture he learned from his old buddy Blake; bringing out Blake’s old foam-finger gimmick; literally lying on the stage floor, begging at Mara’s feet) vs. John, who suggested that Mara duet with him on “All of Me” right then and there. Given how perfectly Mara and John’s vocals blended when she surprisingly accepted that challenge, it seems Mara might go with John — who, after Blake’s departure, has become the Season 24 panel’s veteran coach (this is John’s eighth season).

But then again… Mara might just end joining Team Reba. Tune in Tuesday and find out.
