The relationship between Dolly and Carl is said to have begun with love at first sight.

Dolly Parton Had To Stop Singing After Her Song Brought Stephen Colbert To Tears

Dolly Parton feared Stephen Colbert wouldn’t be able to get through their interview.

    Stephen Colbert and Dolly Parton

    Highlights

Dolly Parton’s performance made Stephen Colbert cry tears of joy, creating a cleansing and memorable moment on the show.
Fans praised Dolly Parton for her genuine soul and ability to connect with listeners, while Stephen Colbert also got emotional discussing Taylor Swift’s kindness towards his daughter.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is filled with hilarious moments looking back. However, on the flip side, fans have also seen some emotional moments as well. That held true when Andrew Garfield held back tears on the show discussing his late mother.

Stephen Colbert himself also cried on the show, and it was all because of Dolly Parton’s iconic voice and soul. We’ll take a look at what went down during their interview, and why Parton had to stop singing. The moment meant a lot to Colbert, and the same holds true for the fans. We’ll reveal what they had to say about the moment, while taking a look at another artist, Stephen Colbert got emotional over.

    Let’s get started.

Dolly Parton Brought Stephen Colbert To Tears Singing A Bit Of Bury Me Beneath The Willow

It was an emotional moment for Stephen Colbert as Dolly Parton sang the host songs his mother used to sing. Clearly, Colbert wasn’t ready for the impact of Dolly Parton’s voice, as the host broke down with tears of joy once she sang, “Bury Me Beneath the Willow.” Parton cut the song short after she noticed the host in tears.

“Aw, you’re crying? So I better hush before you cry yourself to death and you can’t finish the show!”

Colbert went on to reveal that given all the stress he was facing at the time, hearing such a song for Parton was the perfect moment.

“Like a lot of Americans, I’m under a lot of stress right now, Dolly! You got under my trip wire right there, that was pretty beautiful. Isn’t it funny that sometimes there’s nothing happier than a cry?”

Both would agree that it was a cleansing of the soul type of moment with the tears of joy. Colbert called them good tears. It turned out to be one of the more memorable moments in the show’s history.

    Stephen Colbert

Fans had a blast with the interview moment between Colbert and Parton. Looking back, fans especially praised Dolly for her openness and willingness to sing during her special appearance on the Late Show.

Fans Praised Dolly Parton For Her Appearance On The Late Show With Stephen Colbert

The comments section on YouTube was nothing but positive, with the top rated comments were all praising Parton for her abilities and genuine soul. One fan discussed the fact that Parton can connect with her fans in a way nobody can.

    Dolly Parton looking rebellious

“Dolly Parton is a true humanist and has the magical ability to articulate our feelings universally. She gets to our hearts faster than any songwriter I’ve ever seen. Thank you Dolly for connecting our hearts with your music.”

Another fan mentions that like Colbert, they also broke down listening to Parton’s iconic voice. “I was listening to the interview while washing dishes. I started crying when she sang, not knowing Colbert was crying too and when she said “Are you crying?” it legit freaked me out. She’s wonderful.”

    Stephen Colbert

Lots of fans understood why Colbert broke down while Parton sang. “Stephen’s reaction to Dolly singing is the same as my reaction when Dolly once sang for me. It’s a visceral, heart-wrenching reaction that cannot be controlled. Your heart explodes, your brain is set on fire, and there is no drug in the world that can top the high.”

A great moment and one Colbert was certainly appreciative of. In truth, there was another artist Colbert got emotional discussing in the past. Though this time, it wasn’t due to a performance but instead, an act of kindness.

Stephen Colbert Also Got Emotional Discussing Another Artist

Stephen Colbert is forever a fan of Taylor Swift following the artist’s interaction with his daughter. Colbert recalled a moment that saw his daughter very nervous about meeting Taylor Swift. However, once the encounter took place, Taylor was a big class act with Colbert’s daughter.

    Stephen Colbert

He recalls, “I’ll love Taylor Swift ’til the day I die,” he began. “I would put on armor and follow her into battle.” “She turns around and goes, ‘Pretty girl!’ and comes and puts her arms around her and goes, ‘Oh you look amazing!”

“She just praises my daughter for how she looks for, like, 30 seconds. I would jump off a cliff into a pit of spikes for that woman for how nice she was to my daughter,” he added. “You’ve got to remember that!”

A great moment, but in truth, Taylor Swift is always fantastic with the fans, and that has held true throughout her tremendous career.

While giving a rare glimpse inside their romance, the country music superstar reflected on reconnecting with the actor—whom she first met more than 30 years ago on the set of the 1991 movie The Gambler Returns: The Luck of the Draw—in 2020 after they both appeared on Young Sheldon.

“Rex texted me and said, ‘You’re coming to LA? Let’s have dinner,’” Reba recalled to Today.com in an interview published Oct. 10. “I don’t know what it was about it….I wanted to get in to see Rex so bad I could hardly stand it. We were inseparable.”

And while the coronavirus pandemic didn’t make the start of their relationship easy, the “I’m a Survivor” singer noted the two texted and called every day. In fact, she said that she still has his number saved on her phone under “Rex Linn, long-distance boyfriend.”

As for Rex, he keeps Reba’s contact information under “Tater Tot”—with the outlet noting the couple call each other “Sugar Tot” and “Tater Tot,” or just “The Tots,” as nicknames.

Life lately has been tasty for the duo, too. Not only did Reba and Rex appear together in the ABC thriller Big Sky, but she also recently joined The Voice as a coach and released an album and a book called Not That Fancy. And the Grammy winner noted they like to keep their date nights exactly that, telling Today.com they have a yearly tradition of going to Sonic on Valentine’s Day and enjoy the simple pleasures of dinner and a movie at home or a picnic in the park.

But would Reba—who was previously married to Charlie Battles and then Narvel Blackstock—and Rex ever want to tie the knot?

“We get along so well the way we are,” she told E! News in January. “You know, if we sometime—it just is a whim and he says, ‘I wanna get married,’ yeah, that’s fine. If I wanna get married, I’m sure he’d say, ‘That’s fine.’ But we get along so well right now, why rock the boat?”

‘This Girl’s Gonna Be A Huge Star:’ Reba McEntire Recalls The Moment She Knew Taylor Swift Would Be A Phenomenon, And I’m In Awe

    She’s “Fearless.”

These days, it’s an objective fact that Taylor Swift is a phenomenon. There’s no question that she’s a big deal. When you consider all of Swift’s projects, both past and present, her megahit Eras Tour, her box office-busting Eras concert film and her gargantuan footprint on pop culture, it’s hard to imagine a time when she wasn’t one. However, right when she was getting started, not everyone knew who she’d become, but Reba McEntire did, and she recalled the moment she realized it. Let’s just say, I’m in awe over this story.

As part of the current panel of The Voice’s coaches, Reba McEntire was walking the carpet for the show, and she was asked about Taylor Swift – since many of the songs performed in that given episode on the 2023 TV schedule were by the pop star. Of course, since the Eras Tour frontwoman’s career started in country, she and Reba ended up in a lot of the same rooms, including the 2007 CMA Awards. That night, the pop star performed “Tim McGraw” in front of Tim McGraw, and McEntire was astonished, as she said in an interview for NBC’s TikTok:

“The very first time I ever heard Taylor sing live was on the CMA Awards. She was singing ‘Tim McGraw,’ playing a guitar. Tim and Faith were in the front row. She walked down the steps looking right at Tim McGraw singing, and I’m like ‘This girl’s gonna be a huge star.’”

Now, it wasn’t like Swift and McGraw were pals at this point. This CMA Awards was Taylor Swift’s award show debut, per Rolling Stone, and she performed her first ever single, “Tim McGraw.” There was no “You Belong With Me” or “Anti-Hero” yet. She wasn’t playing sold-out stadiums at this point. She was a 17-year-old who took a chance and sang right at her hero. Talk about gutsy. As Ms. McEntire said, it’s no wonder the “Our Song” singer became such a star.

Continuing to speak about how impressive Swift’s performance in 2007 was, Reba said:

“Number one: to walk, sing, walk downstairs at your icon that you’re really wanting to sing to and impress without a flaw. I mean, I was impressed.”

Talk about awe-inspiring! These days, we know Taylor Swift is going to bring a level of excellence that few can to her work. However, she’s been doing that for her entire career, as The Voice coach sweetly pointed out.

Taylor Swift smiling during Reptuation Stadium Tour concert film

On top of this story leaving me in awe generally, the fact that Reba McEntire was moved by this performance makes it even better. We’re talking about a country music legend seeing a young woman perform and knowing she was something special. That had to have meant the world to Swift.

Since the 2007 CMAs Swift has been seen on multiple occasions with both Tim McGraw and Reba McEntire. And like Reba, McGraw sang his praises about Swift, saying that he and his wife Faith Hill “knew early on” after seeing her perform with an acoustic guitar that the pop star would become the icon she is today.

Clearly, obviously, these two were right back then, and now, Taylor Swift is one of the biggest artists on the planet. This story of Reba witnessing Swift sing “Tim McGraw” truly left me in amazement, and it had me thinking about the early days of her career compared to where she is now.

As she’s about to re-release Reputation (Taylor’s Version) and the re-recording of her debut album – which features “Tim McGraw” – it’s fun to look back on this formative time and a moment of confidence that alluded to the icon she is today.

It’s one of the most recognizable names in show business, and for good reason: Reba McEntire just rolls off the tongue. In fact, most of the time, she just goes by Reba.

    How to Watch

Watch The Voice Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

After the early foray into the music business, the “Fancy” singer has gone on to hit many high notes during her four-decade career with more than 75 million records sold worldwide and a staggering 25 No. 1 hits. She’s joined the ranks of pop culture icons like Oprah and Madonna, who only need to be known by their first name, as a result of her chart-topping music (and epic music videos) along with her long-standing run on the popular sitcom Reba and current role as a Coach on The Voice Season 24.

Many artists have stage names, so some may wonder if there’s more to the story with McEntire’s title. Below, learn more about McEntire’s mythic solo moniker.

What Is Reba McEntire’s Real Name?

Technically, Reba Nell McEntire is her full name.

The Season 24 Voice Coach was born in McAlester, Oklahoma, on March 28, 1955. McEntire was bestowed the now-famous name by her parents, Jackie and Clark McEntire, in honor of her maternal grandmother, Reba Smith.

“My grandma was a very spiritual woman. Her name was Reba Smith. That’s my mama’s mama,” McEntire told CountryLiving.com in 2016. “My daddy’s mama died before my oldest sister Alice was born.”

The first name wasn’t the only thing her grandmother passed down to the Grammy-winning singer while she was growing up on an 8,000-acre cattle ranch in Chockie, Oklahoma.

“Grandma Reba taught me about the love of Jesus,” McEntire shared. “To me, that’s the most important thing she could’ve ever taught me.”

Although she secured her place as a household name, McEntire has become a fixture in living rooms across America on Season 24 of The Voice alongside Coaches Niall Horan, Gwen Stefani, and John Legend. McEntire had some big cowboy boots to fill after taking over Coach Blake Shelton’s chair, but Team Reba is killing it during McEntire’s debut as a Coach.

As Team Reba fans everywhere cross their fingers for a win, McEntire has been keeping her eyes on the prize. In an October 2023 interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers, McEntire revealed that Legend is major competition.

“John’s got a great knack for picking great singers,” McEntire gushed. “And when we’re with our backs to the singers that come on to audition, I’m always looking at John, to see if John’s going to hit that button!”

With decades of expertise, McEntire has proven to be one of the most insightful Coaches the competition has seen. McEntire will return as a Coach for Season 25 of The Voice — so she is just getting started.

“I’m really having a wonderful time,” McEntire told Newsweek in September 2023. “[The Voice] is a well-oiled machine, so getting in at this time is marvelous. Everybody knows the game plan, from the crew, the producers. Everybody on the show is so nice, so sweet, and have been so helpful. I’m loving it.”

Why Reba Is ‘Devastated’ Over Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Romance

    Reba McEntire, Taylor Swift

Reba McEntire admitted that when she first found out about Taylor Swift‘s presumed romance with Travis Kelce, she wasn’t too happy about it.

The 68-year-old revealed her true feelings while speaking with TODAY.com in an article published on Wednesday, Oct. 11, saying it felt like her “boyfriend cheated on” her.

Reba McEntire Jokes She's 'So Mad' at Taylor Swift Over Travis Kelce Dating Rumors

“Oh, my gosh, I am so mad at her because I had a crush on him,” McEntire shared while promoting her new book, Not That Fancy: Simple Lessons on Living, Loving, Eating, and Dusting Off Your Boots. “Now I can’t have a crush anymore because he’s dating her.”

“I was so devastated,” she said before going on to describe Kelce as her “boyfriend that cheated on” her.

Her actual boyfriend–Rex Linn–was well aware of how she felt about the Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end long before she spoke to the press about it, as she even admitted to making comments about Kelce’s appearance in front of him.

“We were watching him play because I love the Chiefs and I love Patrick [Mahomes], and I’d say, ‘Oh, he’s so cute. Oh, he’s so cute.’”

But Linn isn’t intimidated by McEntire’s little crush, “Isn’t that sad?” she joked.

In fact, Linn has gone so far as to tease the “I’m a Survivor” songstress now that Kelce and the 33-year-old Grammy winner appear to be dating.

“When he and Taylor started dating, Rex said, ‘Your boyfriend’s got another girlfriend.’ I said, ‘Rub it in.’”

The mocking appears to be all out of love, as the two have been nearly inseparable over the past three years, regularly sharing their admiration for one another in sweet, sappy posts online.

While speaking with Parade for her cover story interview earlier this month, McEntire dished on her relationship with the 66-year-old actor and how it all came to be.

“Rex and I knew each other from 1991 when we did a Kenny Rogers Gambler movie. We stayed in contact,” she said.

“Then, in January 2020, we were on Young Sheldon and went to dinner with [co-star] Melissa Peterman,” she recalled. “When my tour manager dropped me off in front of that restaurant, I couldn’t get into it quick enough to see Rex.”

Reba McEntire Used To Hope She’d See Taylor Swift at the Super Bowl

With the hours ticking down to Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday (Feb. 11), fans are still speculating about whether Taylor Swift will be in the stands cheering on her boyfriend, Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce.

Reba McEntire is no exception. Speaking to People ahead of the game, where she’s set to sing the national anthem, McEntire says she knows exactly what she’ll say to Swift if the two stars cross paths at the Super Bowl.

“I’m going to tell her congratulations on the Grammys. My gosh,” McEntire raves. Swift won two awards at the show last Sunday (Feb. 4), including a history-making Album of the Year win.

“She took that thing by storm,” McEntire continues, adding that she’s also “thrilled to death” that Swift and Kelce are in a relationship, and that “Travis is a cutie pie.”

McEntire is one of three stars taking the stage before kickoff: Rapper Post Malone is performing “America the Beautiful,” R&B singer Andra Day is singing “Lift Every Voice and Sing” and of course, McEntire will cap things off with “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Reba McEntire denies calling Taylor Swift an 'entitled little brat' after Super Bowl performance

But the country great knows she’s just there to supplement the main attraction: Football. “You know, it’s not about me. It’s about everybody who worked so hard to get to the Super Bowl, and my job is to bring the patriotism,” McEntire relates.

“I’m going to be singing for not only the people who are gonna be performing and playing on the field that day, but it’s for everybody who has worked so hard to ensure our freedom and try to have as much peace on earth as we can,” she goes on to say. “It’s not about me. I’m just the conduit and the water hose who gets to sing the song.”

Which Other Country Stars Have Sung the National Anthem at the Super Bowl?
Having three patriotic songs to kick off the game is a bit of a left turn for the Super Bowl, which typically features just one performance of the national anthem from a different superstar each year.

The show has now booked country singers to perform the anthem for four years running. Before McEntire’s 2024 anthem gig, Chris Stapleton did the honors in 2023, and his bluesy “Star-Spangled Banner” is still one of the show’s most buzzed-about moments.

Mickey Guyton sang the anthem in 2022, and Eric Church teamed up with Jazmine Sullivan in 2021. Over the years, plenty of other stars have repped the genre for the national anthem performance: Remember Garth Brook’s high-drama 1993 Super Bowl gig? Faith Hill, the Chicks, Luke Bryan and Carrie Underwood are all among those who’ve sang the anthem before the big game, too.

Reba McEntire slams fake news post that pit her against Taylor Swift: 'I did not say this'

Will Taylor Swift Be at the 2024 Super Bowl?

It’s hard to say for sure whether or not Swift will attend the Super Bowl this year, but the bottom line is, it’s certainly possible.

The Kansas City Chiefs will face off against the San Francisco 49ers at Super Bowl LVIII, meaning that Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce — who’s currently dating Swift — will be playing in the big game.
Swift has attended every Chiefs game this season that doesn’t conflict with her current Eras Tour.
The superstar recently resumed the international leg of her Eras Tour, and she played a show in Tokyo, Japan on Feb. 10 — one day before the Super Bowl on Feb. 11.

She did admit that perhaps one of her secrets to her luminous skin is due to the fact that she never went sunbathing when she was younger.

‘I never got out in the sun. I don’t have a lot of the same problems that women my age do ’cause I never baked myself in the sun,’ she said.

‘I would’ve if I’d been able to tan but I couldn’t, so now I’m glad!’ she added.
