Do you know that the soulful superstar Reba McEntire once also scored a hit in the dance charts?

Reba McEntire is one of the undisputed queens of country music, but did you know that the soulful superstar once also scored a hit in the dance charts?

The year was 1995, and McEntire released an album of cover songs titled Starting Over that featured her versions of songs by Patti LaBelle, Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt and more.

Her rendition of Lee Greenwood’s “Ring on Her Finger, Time on Her Hands” reached No. 9 on Billboard‘s Hot Country Singles chart, and Trisha Yearwood and Martina McBride joined Reba for a very special recording of LaBelle’s “On My Own.” But perhaps the most interesting thing about the album was Reba’s cover of the Supremes classic “You Keep Me Hangin’ On,” which was treated to a remix by Love to Infinity.

That remix was released to dance clubs across the U.S., reaching No. 2 on Billboard‘s Hot Dance Club Play chart for two weeks in 1996. The video for the song features McEntire in full dance-pop regalia, with thigh-high boots, Dynasty-esque shoulder pads, a headset microphone and hair so huge that the Supremes could have been hiding in it, waiting to jump out and sing background vocals. A troop of dancers completed the ensemble for a video that is truly a one-of-a-kind among McEntire’s repertoire.

As it happens, McEntire doesn’t recall the clip. “I didn’t see the video!” she tells Taste of Country. “‘Keep Me Hangin’ On’? I’m gonna look it up.”

“You Keep Me Hangin’ On” remains Reba’s only dance hit to date.

    Welcome to Reba’s Place

Reba McEntire is the latest country superstar getting into the hospitality game, and her Atoka, Oklahoma restaurant feels welcoming indeed

Interior of a restaurant dining room, with several tables and chairs set up and leather banquettes with dark wood details.
    Choctaw Nation

Until the last year or so, Reba McEntire never had any intention of opening a restaurant. The fire-haired country music superstar, actress, author, and lifestyle mogul has plenty on her plate — she’s starring in a movie this year, going out on tour, and writing a new book — and didn’t think getting into the hospitality industry was worth the trouble. But now, it’s 11 a.m. on a Monday, and I’m one of many out-of-town folks who’ve crowded into the foyer at Reba’s Place, McEntire’s new restaurant in Atoka, Oklahoma, just a short drive away from the Chockie cattle ranch where she grew up.

“Reba’s Place wasn’t my idea, to say the least,” McEntire told Eater. “The city council came to me and asked if I would like to do a restaurant in Atoka, and I said no. Restaurants are tough. It’s hard to get one off the ground, and it’s hard to make a living.” But after seeing the enthusiasm from Atoka officials, who insisted that Reba’s Place could bring tourism dollars and jobs to the sleepy town of 3,188 located off Highway 69, McEntire decided to say yes. The result: a three-story restaurant that opened January 26, complete with a stage for live music, an upstairs lounge stocked with books from her mother’s library, and a shop slinging Reba’s Place T-shirts, among other merch. The menu is pure Southern comfort, laden with deep-fried pickles and locally raised beef, including a staggering tomahawk steak big enough to feed six people. “It’s the best steak I’ve ever had,” McEntire says.

Huyền thoại nhạc đồng quê Reba McEntire đến thăm bạn bè trong lễ khai trương....

McEntire’s business partner in the project is the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, which operates a number of businesses in the state, including restaurants and casinos. The Nation collaborated with McEntire on the menu and design, and holds weekly meetings with the star to keep Reba’s Place running smoothly.

The renovation of a 100-year-old Masonic lodge into a restaurant was, in McEntire’s words, interesting. The building was in bad shape, a total gut job filled with bird poop, with some structural issues on the third floor that created a dramatic scene where McEntire had to be evacuated out of a second-floor window after a flight of stairs she was about to walk down completely collapsed. “It was pretty scary,” she says. “I wanted to get to go down one of those big inflatable slides, but the fire department just brought the ladder. After that happened, you better believe I said that those were going to be the best, most well-made stairs in the whole United States after we got through with this place.”

The menu itself is mostly Southern standards, many of which have a personal connection to McEntire. There’s her Mama’s pimento cheese sandwich, soft bread slathered thick with the South’s favorite cheesy spread and a layer of Miracle Whip, and Mama’s favorite cocktail — Seagram’s gin with 7-Up. “My contribution to the menu was the pinto beans, fried potatoes, and cornbread. I love beans, I grew up on beans,” McEntire says. A rancher’s daughter, McEntire ensured that the menu had a solid selection of steaks. And of course, there’s the Red Head ‘Rita, an homage to the boss lady herself that’s spiked with Ancho Reyes liqueur. I ordered one: When in Atoka, do as Reba tells you.

Plate featuring a cut of steak, shrimp, and a stack of onions. The “Fancy” steak dinner.Amy McCarthy/Eater

McEntire won’t oversee the day-to-day at Reba’s Place; she plans to pop in regularly to keep tabs on the restaurant. But she’s a woman who fundamentally understands the notion of hospitality, even as a first-time restaurateur. According to McEntire, a baker shows up at 4 a.m. daily to prepare the offerings in the restaurant’s complimentary bread basket, which is stuffed with tiny loaves of banana bread, green chile cornbread, and apple-ginger muffins. The restaurant sources the beef for its burgers and steaks from nearby cattle ranches operated by the Choctaw Nation. Everything is cozy, not pretentious or exclusionary; inside, the 250-seat space somehow feels intimate.

The past few years have seen no shortage of country music stars opening up their own restaurants. Blake Shelton, Jason Aldean, Kid Rock, and Justin Timberlake all own establishments in Nashville, and more are on the way. But what separates Reba’s Place from those sprawling, soulless bars packed with drunk tourists is its quiet setting in Atoka’s downtown. The space feels appropriately Reba, with cowhide rugs and rhinestone-smattered costumes from her many tours and starring role in Broadway’s Annie Get Your Gun. “We’ve got pictures up in there that I hadn’t seen in years. We’ve got the ‘Fancy’ dresses,” she says, referring to her seminal 1991 cover of the Bobbie Gentry song. “I’m a pack rat. I keep everything — memorabilia, costumes, you name it. We’ve got my outfit from Tremors that we’ll be putting in there soon. Just like the menu, we’ll change out the memorabilia so that when people come back to see us, they’ll see new things.”

Even though Reba herself recommends the tomahawk, I didn’t have six people to split it with or 150 bucks to spend on a hunk of meat. But I couldn’t resist the delightfully punny “Fancy” steak dinner: a plate of Choctaw Ranch filet medallions served with super-smoky mushroom ragout and a few grilled shrimp. It did, in fact, look fancy, and was artfully garnished with a little stack of grilled onions and a sprig of rosemary. It might not have been riding on the cutting edge of modern cuisine, but it was a damn good steak, and that’s really all it needed to be.

If the restaurant is successful in the way that other celebrity-branded establishments have been, including Oklahoma spots like Ree Drummond’s Pioneer Woman Mercantile and Blake Shelton’s Ole Red, Reba’s Place could be economically transformative for Atoka. After it opened in 2017 in the similarly sized Pawhuska, Oklahoma, Pioneer Woman Mercantile created more than 175 new jobs for locals, the town’s sales tax revenue doubled, and more than 20 new businesses opened. Atoka’s local officials are not shy about comparing Reba to Ree, aspiring to a similar tourism boom: A recent news report cited the potential for $37 million a year in economic impact. City officials note that unlike Pawhuska, Atoka sits just 126 miles away from Dallas, and right off a major thoroughfare: “8 million vehicles” pass through the town annually, Carol Ervin of the Atoka City Industrial Development Authority told Tulsa World. “We just need a reason for them to stop. Reba’s Place will provide that reason.”

After my lunch, I of course hit the merch shop, then spent a little time walking around Atoka’s downtown, popping into some boutiques selling T-shirts — at least a few of which were styled like campaign tees, emblazoned with “Dolly/Reba 2024.” The city center doesn’t exactly have the feel of a tourist destination, at least not yet, and that’s a good thing. Two months in, Reba’s Place seems like somewhere to go to feel a little bit closer to a country superstar, or to simply enjoy a plate of chicken fried steak and pinto beans, and come out equally happy. As I pulled out of town to make the two-hour drive back to Dallas, I had only one regret: that I hadn’t had the good sense to order the strawberry shortcake. It’s Reba’s favorite dessert, and now more than ever before, I trust the discerning tastes of the Queen of Country without hesitation.

    Highlights

Dolly Parton’s upcoming album, Rockstar, is generating excitement as she aims to become a rock star in addition to her country music success.
The inclusion of The Beatles’ classic song “Let It Be” on the album was a complicated decision, but Dolly was able to involve Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.
Dolly has always loved The Beatles and their music, with “I Want to Hold Your Hand” being a song that deeply resonated with her. She also included a cover of “Help!” on a previous album.

Fans are understandably excited about Dolly Parton‘s upcoming album, Rockstar, which is due to be released later this year to show her ambition to become a great rock star in addition to her accomplishments as one of the greatest country music stars.

The most exciting part? Teaming up with the likes of The Beatles to cover some of their most epic songs.

However, the story behind how the country music legend decided to include the classic “Let It Be” in her album is more complicated than fans would guess, much like many other things about the star’s life, such as her husband’s dislike of her music despite their sixty-year-long marriage.

What Song Did Dolly Parton Do With The Beatles?

Dolly Parton posing for new rock album

While the song that will appear on Dolly Parton’s Rockstar album features both Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr (in addition to Mick Fleetwood and Peter Frampton of Fleetwood Mac fame), Dolly didn’t originally plan to involve the two surviving members of The Beatles in recording it.

“Let It Be” was first released by The Beatles in 1970 and is also the name of the album in which it was included. Fans loved it, and it became one of the best-known Beatles songs of the band’s illustrious career.

One of those fans was Dolly Parton, who had wanted to record a cover with Paul McCartney for a long time after first hearing the song inspired by his dream of his mother.

However, as she was recording songs for her upcoming album, she went ahead and recorded her own version of it. After recording her own version, she finally reached out to Paul McCartney to ask if he wanted to contribute. After he agreed, she thought Ringo Starr would also like to participate.

“I’ve always loved that song. I recorded the song without them, and then thought, ‘Wow. Wouldn’t it be great if Paul McCartney would agree to play piano and sing on it?!’ And then I thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be even greater to have Ringo Starr play on that track?” Dolly said.

Dolly was happy when both men agreed, and she got her “all-star song,” saying, “The whole idea of having Paul, who I’ve loved through the years, and just having them on it […] I was excited to death.”

Dolly Has Always Loved The Beatles

Dolly Parton on the red carpet

Dolly Parton didn’t always have an eclectic taste in music. The “Jolene” singer grew up in rural Tennessee and her main inspirations as a young artist were gospel and country music. She loved rock and roll, but it wasn’t her favorite musical genre.

However, this changed the first time she heard “I Want to Hold Your Hand” by The Beatles. Dolly Parton became obsessed with the song, particularly because she felt it applied to her life.

Dolly said that the song reminded her of her first kiss because she had begun “to date a little bit” when she first heard it.

“I loved all kinds of songs, and I grew up singin’ all sorts of songs, but the first time I ever remember totally being jarred and feelin’ all kinds of emotions was when that song came out,” she added.

“I Want to Hold Your Hand” was not the only song by the iconic band that left Dolly Parton feeling jarred. She has been a loyal fan of The Beatles over the years and showed her devotion by including a cover of another one of their songs, “Help!”, on her Great Balls of Fire album in 1979.

“Let It Be” Is One Of The Beatles’ Most Iconic Songs

    The Beatles Album cover

Because of the catchy tune and thoughtful lyrics, “Let It Be” became an instant hit and rose to the top of the US Billboard Hot 100 after its release.

Paul McCartney, who wrote the song himself, despite also crediting John Lennon, was inspired by a dream in which he was visited by his mother, who had died, to reassure him of her love and tell him to “let it be.”

He recalled his experience in his book, The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present, writing: “In this dream, seeing my mum’s beautiful, kind face and being with her in a peaceful place was very comforting.”

The message of peace and acceptance that everything will turn out all right that the song promotes was exactly what fans needed amid the turmoil of the Vietnam War in the 1970s. It was not a coincidence that they loved the song and that it remains one of the most beloved songs of The Beatles.

It is also no surprise that Dolly Parton decided to include it on an album that she wants to use to showcase the best rock songs ever written and her prowess as a rock singer.

It fits well with her other choices for the album, including her collaboration with Sting for “Every Breath You Take,” her duet of “I Want You Back” with Steven Tyler or her work with Elton John on “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.”

Dolly also plans to cover “Wrecking Ball” with her goddaughter, Miley Cyrus, to show that, despite not agreeing with Miley’s culinary choices, she clearly appreciates her musical skills.

Dolly Parton would rather “drop dead on stage.”

Dolly Parton, 77, has no plans on retiring anytime soon. The ten-time Guinness World Record holder is set to release her 49th studio album called Rockstar in November 2023.

She has been working in the music industry for six decades now, despite her husband of 57 years not being a fan of country music. Recently, Parton revealed her morbid thoughts on retiring, which was actually good news to her many fans who call her a saint.

The Jolene hitmaker has also been vocal about her many upcoming projects, including her continuous charity contributions which previously funded the Moderna Covid vaccine research. Here’s a closer look at her “drop dead on stage” career plans.

Why Did Dolly Parton Quit Touring?

    Dolly Parton performing

In 2022, when asked if she could see herself touring again, Parton revealed that she was done with it. “I do not think I will ever tour again, but I do know I’ll do special shows here and there, now and then,” she told Pollstar. “Maybe do a long weekend of shows, or just a few shows at a festival. But I have no intention of going on a full-blown tour anymore. I’ve done that my whole life, and it takes so much time and energy.”

She noted that she wanted “to stay a little closer to home with my husband,” noting that they’re “getting older now, and I don’t want to be gone for four or five weeks at a time. Something could happen. I would not feel right about that, if I were gone and somebody needed me. Or I would feel bad if I had to leave a tour if somebody got sick at home and needed me and then I had to walk out on the fans.”

Parton added that she can connect with her fans via the internet, anyway. “I don’t ever feel separated from my fans because, in this high-tech world, you can be right with them. You can do special shows in special ways,” she explained. “I will be doing some of that.”

“But you’ve got to work for weeks to work up a great new show, a new tour they haven’t seen. It takes months to actually plan a tour, as far as booking dates and all that. Then you’ve got to be gone for all that time, too. It’s more involved than people have any idea.”

What Did Dolly Parton Say About Retiring?Dolly Parton on the red carpet

In a recent appearance on the Greatest Hits Radio, the 9 to 5 alum set the record straight on her retirement plans. “I would never retire,” she said in the interview. “I’ll just hopefully drop dead in the middle of a song on stage someday, hopefully one I’ve written.”

Parton shared that she’s “not one to sit around and do nothing” but is willing to shave some hours off work. “As long as I’m able to work, as long as my health is good, and my husband is good,” she continued. “I mean, the only way that I would ever slow down or stop would be for that reason … But in the meantime, I’m going to make hay while the sun shines.”

Speaking about her motivation to keep working, Parton said that she has “new dreams every day … I’ve got lots of dreams. I always believed that if you’ve wanted your dreams to come true and you are lucky enough to have that happen, then you’ve got to be responsible because you gotta keep the dream alive. And every dream kind of spawns another dream.”

What Is Dolly Parton’s Net Worth In 2023?

Parton placed at the 59th spot in Forbes‘ new list of America’s Richest Self-Made Women. She’s tied with Reese Witherspoon who’s also worth $440 million. The magazine previously reported that one-third of the former’s net worth comes from her $150 million song catalog.

She makes $6 million to $8 million in royalties each year as she still owns most of her song publishing rights. She notably received $10 million in royalties from Whitney Houston’s rendition of I Will Always Love You — all of which was spent on building offices in a Black community in Nashville.

“It was just off the beaten path from 16th Avenue and I thought, ‘Well I am going to buy this place.’ It was a whole strip mall. And I thought, ‘This is the perfect place for me to be, considering it was Whitney,’” she told Andy Cohen.

“I just thought, ‘This was great. I’m going to be down here with her people, who are my people as well,’” she added. “And so I just love the fact that I spent that money on a complex. And I think, ‘This is the house that Whitney built.’”

The Dollywood founder continues to increase her net worth by “just working on all kinds of things” these days. “I’m very excited right now I’m working on my first rock and roll album that’s going to come out somewhere in the fall,” she said in an exclusive interview with Wate. “I have a lot of iconic singers and a lot of iconic songwriters on that. So I’ve been looking forward to that.”

She’s also working on a movie, as well as Dollywood-related projects. “I’m actually doing a movie of Run, Rose, Run, a book that I wrote with James Patterson. We got a movie coming out of that. So I got a lot of wonderful projects going on,” she continued.

“I’m going to be a busy girl and we’re going to be busy over here at Dollywood. We got a lot of great things coming up next year. We plan all year long on what is going to be happening for the next year. So my plate is full. My plate runneth over.”

Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford has opened up on the moment he met the legendary Dolly Parton, as well as the unlikely collaboration their meeting eventually spawned. The two beloved singers crossed paths at the 2022 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame ceremony, where Parton was inducted into the Hall itself and Priest were honoured with a special Musical Excellence Award.

Near the end of the night, Parton invited some of that year’s hosts and inductees, including Brandi Carlile, P!nk, Duran Duran’s Simon LeBon, Sheryl Crow, Annie Lennox, Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo, to come on stage and sing trademark hit Jolene with her. Halford was amongst the stars to take part in the amazing spectacle, meaning the Metal God got to meet a longtime idol of his.

“Somehow, instinctively, I knew we were going to meet,” Rob explains in the latest issue of Metal Hammer. “I always tell the story of my mother’s grandmother, who was a clairvoyant, and I still think I’ve got a little of that in me, because something went, ‘You’re going to meet Dolly Parton.’ Two or three days later, these emails come into the office, and Dolly’s reached out, asking, ‘Would you sing some lines on Jolene?’ You sit at home and go, ‘Oh my god, this is truly going to happen!’ Being a gay guy, ‘I’ve got nothing to wear!’ I know that she likes to sparkle and I like to sparkle, so what I wore on that night was apropos.”

As overawed by the encounter as Halford evidently was, it seems Parton herself was also very impressed to meet the heavy metal hero – not least because of his impressive facial hair.

“She goes, ‘I love your beard!’” Halford exclaims, “and she starts to clean my beard! It was so surreal! I’m meeting this living legend and she’s tickling my beard and going, ‘So you’re going to sing some Jolene with me?’ I was just floating.”

The following year, Halford’s new-found friendship with Parton would level-up courtesy of an appearance on her rock ‘n’ roll album Rockstar, where the two would duet on the track Bygones. Halford recorded his vocals separately from Parton, sending her the demos to rave reviews.

“We’re on the phone to each other and she’s going, ‘Send me the files! Send me the files!’” he explains. “So I sent her the files and she calls back and goes, ‘I love these! This is gonna be great!’ This is Dolly Parton on speakerphone! Ha ha! She’s just this beautiful beacon of life. You can tell by the way I’m speaking that this is important to me as a musician, to have had this literally once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work with someone so great.”

Judas Priest earned their highest ever UK album chart position last week, with latest, critically acclaimed album Invincible Shield landing at an impressive Number Two. They are currently on tour in the UK, with European dates to follow. Meanwhile, you can read more from Halford in the latest issue of Metal Hammer, out now.

  • Dolly Parton’s Husband Of Six Decades Doesn’t Even Like Country Music

Dolly Parton’s Husband Of Six Decades Doesn’t Even Like Country Music

Dolly Parton’s Husband Of Six Decades Doesn’t Even Like Country Music

Dolly Parton’s husband, Carl Dean certainly loves Dolly. But when it comes to her music, he would rather listen to just about anything else.

Carl Thomas Dean and Dolly Parton

Dolly Parton has been a country music star since the mid-1960s. While she was initially marketed as a pop star, it was when one of the songs she wrote and sold to a label in Nashville recognized the potential Parton had in the country world instead. Given that the “9 to 5” singer is a product of East Tennessee who grew up in the Great Smoky Mountains with 11 siblings she is close to, country music had a special place in her heart. As such, it was a match made in heaven.

Another match made in heaven around the same time was Parton’s marriage to Carl Dean. While Dean knew that Parton was the one the moment he saw her, it took a bit longer for Parton to be head over heels for the main squeeze in her life. The two decided after being in a relationship for a couple of years that it was time to get married. Parton’s record label did not agree with the decision, believing it would stall her success if she was seen as a married woman rather than one that was single. Because of this, the two went across state lines to Georgia to get married, leaving no one the wiser in Tennessee.

Shortly after their marriage, Parton’s career took off. She became a bona fide country star and has not lost that title in nearly 60 years. But in that time, what the Jolene singer has not been able to do is convince Dean to enjoy the music she writes.

Carl Dean Doesn’t Like Country Music

While Dean grew up in Nashville, he was never a country music fan. He was a rock music fan through and through who could tolerate some bluegrass from time to time. If anyone were to get Dean to change his taste in music, who better than his country superstar wife?

But in the nearly sixty years that he has been surrounded by her music, his distaste for country never changed. And at this point, it never will.

“Country music was his least favorite, he was into hard rock,” Parton explained about Dean. “All of our lives, and we’ve been together almost 60 years, anytime I’m around him, in the house, in the car he’s always playing rock songs.”

This does not mean that Dean has ever tried to get Parton to change her style of music. Instead, he has supported her in everything she has done professionally, even if that means he does not want to listen to her songs.

“He doesn’t dislike it, he doesn’t go out of his way to play my records, let’s put it that way,” Parton stated.

Because of his unwavering support, Parton decided to make a rock album that was filled with Dean’s favorites. However, one of the songs was initially retooled to have a bluegrass feel to it. And while Dean has never questioned Parton’s take on music, this time around he had to voice his opinion.

“I actually chose a lot of his favorite songs to do [for this album] ‘Stairway to Heaven’ being one of them,” Parton explained on Absolute Radio Breakfast.

“I did a version of ‘Stairway to Heaven’ some years back as a bluegrass kind of thing, and he didn’t think I should have done it. And he said, are you sure that’s ‘Stairway to Heaven’ or stairwell to hell?”

“Stairway to Heaven” was eventually recut as a rock song, and Dean loved it. But do not expect him to watch Parton perform it live anytime soon, given that he is nervous every time the “Islands in the Stream” singer sets foot on stage.

Carl Dean Gets Nervous When Dolly Parton Goes On Stage

After years in the spotlight and performing live, it takes quite a bit to get Parton nervous when she takes the stage, be it in long sleeves or in gloves. However, the same cannot be said for Dean. That is because even to this day, he still gets nervous at the thought of Parton performing. And as a result, very rarely watches her live.

He’s proud of me,” Parton explained. “And he loves that I love what I do. I think it’s just…it’s a touchy subject. I’m like his little girl, I think. He just worries about that.”

    Dolly Parton performing

But if Parton happens to be performing at a state fair, Dean may just show up. But, that is only if the tractor pull is over as “he loves to go to the tractor pull.”

Parton went on to explain, “For years and years he would never come to the shows because he felt like he’d get nervous if I messed up, so he never wanted to watch it. The first time he saw me perform and that I was in control of the stage, he was ok.”

While Dean has no problem watching Parton take “control of the stage” and thrive in the spotlight, that is a life he wants nothing to do with. Because of this, Dean is rarely seen with Parton given the amount of time she is in the public eye.

Carl Dean Prefers To Stay Out Of Dolly Parton’s Spotlight

Dean has attended just one award show with Parton at the beginning of the Here You Come Again singer’s career. And it was when that night came to a close that Dean realized he wanted nothing to do with the spotlight. So, Parton has worked hard to allow Dean his privacy and secretive life, while remaining a public figure.

It has not always been easy but has allowed the two to have a happy long-lasting committed marriage as a result.

“He said, ‘I didn’t choose this world, I chose you, and you chose that world,” Parton explained. “‘But we can keep our lives separate and together.’ And we do and we have. We’ve been together 56 years, married 54.”

Dolly Parton on the red carpet

Parton went on to say, “A lot of people have thought that [he doesn’t exist] through the years, because he does not want to be in the spotlight at all. It’s just not who he is. He’s like, a quiet, reserved person.”

According to Parton, Dean “figured if he ever got out there in that, he’d never get a minute’s peace.” And not skipping a beat, Parton concluded, “And he’s right about that.”

While Parton and Dean are the epitome of opposites attracting, the love that the two share is something that is found once in a lifetime. It is through love and respect that the two have made it nearly 60 years of being together, in spite of the fact that Dean wants nothing to do with the professional life full of adoring fans that is Dolly Parton.

Reba McEntire and Rex Linn's Relationship Timeline

Reba McEntire shocked her fans this week with a new jewel on her ring finger. After shocking fans with her new jewelry, McEntire humorously remarked, “I just found it,” and shared with her brand manager, Leslie Matthews Duggar, her intent to cause a stir, saying she would add something there to get everybody talking.

Dating actor Rex Linn since 2020, McEntire has been noncommittal about marrying again. In a talk show appearance, she stated that the decision lies with Linn, as he has never been married, whereas she has twice. McEntire said it would be up to Linn whether or not they married, leaving the door open for the future.

The couple’s relationship blossomed after reuniting on “Young Sheldon” in 2020, having first met in 1991. Since a dinner outing that year, they have been inseparable. McEntire’s previous marriages include Narvel Blackstock—with whom she shares a son, Shelby Blackstock, and Charlie Battles.

While McEntire’s choice to wear the ring sparked speculation, it was more about generating conversation than indicating a change in her personal life. She remains open to marriage, letting Linn decide their future.

Country star Reba McEntire’s performance at the Super Bowl not only showcased her vocal prowess but also paid a heartfelt tribute to her late father, Clark McEntire, a revered figure in the rodeo world. Dressed in an eye-catching outfit, Reba adorned her belt with a special emblem—her father’s World Champion Steer Roper buckle.

The rest of Reba’s ensemble included black pants with floral print embellishments, a black top, and a light beige jacket. Fans quickly took notice of the singer, with social media buzzing about the sentimental accessory.

Clark, who passed away in October 2014, was not just a rodeo champion but a symbol of cowboy authenticity, described by the doting mom as “a born and bred cowboy through and through.” His accomplishments in steer roping are well-documented, with his induction into the Rodeo Hall of Fame underscoring his significant contributions to the sport.

Beyond ranking fifth in the nation in steer roping by 1949, Reba McEntire’s late father won the RCA championship in steer roping in 1957, 1958, and 1961. He also claimed the IRA title in 1947.

As previously reported on February 11:

After Reba McEntire took to the stage yesterday to perform the national anthem at the Super Bowl, fans and critics alike shared their opinions. While many tuned in to witness the artist’s rendition, the range of responses highlighted the diversity of viewers’ tastes and expectations.

Critiques and praises were equally vocal on platforms like X, where one user did not hold back about McEntire’s possible beauty enhancements impacting her performance, stating, “She can hardly sing through that plastic surgery. Got to bring back Stapleton that was the best I ever seen.” Another shared a similar sentiment, “Sorry, I love Reba but I thought she was horrible.” Some thought her performance was incredible and said it was how the national anthem should always be sung.

Yet, amidst the critiques, many of McEntire’s fans highlighted her expertise and composure. In support of her, a tweet read, “You can just tell that Reba is enjoying this moment and not stressed about how it lives up or if she’ll make a mistake. This is a pro.” Such supportive messages underline the admiration for McEntire’s professionalism and her stature in the music industry.

The conversation around the performance also included mentions of its duration, with some noting it as one of the “shortest” anthem performances in recent Super Bowl history—a point of contention that added to the spectrum of reactions.

While McEntire’s Super Bowl LVIII anthem was a moment to remember, it is not her “first rodeo” with national anthems. McEntire’s storied journey in music began long before, with a notable performance at the National Finals Rodeo 50 years ago. Music on X called McEntire and the Super Bowl a “match made in heaven,” to which McEntire replied, “Aww thanks.”
