The Voice coaches’ salaries for Season 25 revealed from John Legend’s huge payday to Chance the Rapper’s modest earnings

THE VOICE coaches for season 25 are bringing in massive paychecks for their role on the NBC hit show.

The Voice has been on the air since April 2011 on NBC and started with four heavy-hitting coaches – Blake Shelton, CeeLo Green, Christina Aguilera, and Adam Levine.

Over a decade later, the coach’s panel looks completely different.

The competition show is in its 25th season and despite it being a hit there are rumored to be budget cuts that could affect the coach’s salaries.

A source previously told The U.S. Sun that leaders in the network plan to “tighten spending” as they scrutinize the “talent budget.”

The insider said, “There is a substantial trimming of costs and ways of looking at not increasing spending” across program teams.

The source revealed that the wages for coaches are at the top of the spending sheets.

Still, it doesn’t seem like the budget cuts will affect every coach’s salary, but their paydays probably won’t be increasing.

    THE CURRENT COACHES

That same source told The U.S. Sun: “Reba is getting around $13million a season and that is the higher end of the fee range for talent – and a very substantial sum.

“It’s understood there is no room for that figure to rise, so very quietly behind the scenes private talks are taking place with agents and talent about those deals.”

Reba McEntire, 68, has only been on the show for two seasons, but she’s already receiving one of the largest paychecks.

The other country coaches Dan + Shay work as a team and, according to Style Caster, they also make $13million.

John Legend has spent nine seasons on the show, and he’s also receiving $13million a season, as reported by OK.

Chance the Rapper as a relatively new coach and a single act will only receive $8million for the 25th season of the show.

    PAST COACH SALARIES

Niall Horan was a coach of seasons 23 and 24, and he reportedly only earned $8million a season despite being a famed One Direction singer.

Blake, an original coach on The Voice, made a cool $13million a season.

Considering he was on the show for the first 23 seasons, the country singer walked away with almost $300million before taxes.

    10

His wife, Gwen Stefani, sporadically appeared on the show for a total of eight seasons.

She made the usual $13million for most of them.

Singer Camila Cabello from the group Fifth Harmony followed in fellow band member Niall’s footsteps and only pulled in $8million for her appearance in season 22.

    BIG SPENDER

There was one coach in the history of The Voice who made bank from the show.

In March 2021, Ariana Grande revealed she would be a coach on season 21 of the competition program.

She joined John, Blake, and Kelly Clarkson – who also cleaned up with a whopping $15million a season.

But the 7 Rings singer made more than double what other coaches have made.

It was reported she was paid $20 to $25million to appear in her season.

This made her the highest-paid coach in the history of the show even though she only appeared in 26 episodes.

The Strategy of Dan + Shay to Defeat Reba McEntire on The Voice

Dan + Shay Talk Joining ‘The Voice’ and Their Strategy to Defeat Reba McEntire—Something Blake Shelton Never Did

While the country music duo Dan + Shay started performing a decade ago, they used the last ten years to not only grow a sizable fanbase but also bring home three consecutive Grammy

Awards for Best Country Duo/Group Performance. With songs like “Speechless” and “Tequila”, the duo watched as their stardom continued to expand. Now, the singers are just days away from making their debut on the hit show The Voice. Marking the first “double chair” coaches on the show, the duo recently discussed their time in music and how they are “strategizing” on how to beat Reba McEntire.

Dan + Shay on Joining 'The Voice' and 'Strategizing' to Beat Reba

Comprised of Shay Mooney and Dan Smyers, the pair will sit alongside John Legend, Chance the Rapper, and Reba on February 26, as The Voice kicks off season 25. While the show welcomed numerous coaches over the years, this marks the first time two country acts are competing against each other. Explaining how former coach Blake Shelton never competed against Reba, Mooney joked he had it easy before adding, “I feel like we have really been having to strategize and use our blocks to our advantage. Who doesn’t love Reba McEntire and didn’t listen to her music and watch her show growing up? That’s stiff competition. She’s very competitive.”

Although hoping to win their first season on The Voice, Mooney added that just receiving the opportunity was a win for them. “This is a massive opportunity for us. We’ve had some crossover success, but this opens you up to an entirely different audience. Being on television every week definitely expands the people who listen to your music. We don’t really know what to expect.”

Meet Team Reba: Who Are Reba McEntire's 'The Voice' Contestants?

Dan + Shay Hope To Stay On ‘The Voice’
While agreeing with his partner, Smyers used his time on The Voice to remember how lucky they were. “Seeing these people who are pouring their hearts and souls out onto that microphone, honestly, I can’t imagine being in their shoes. A lot of these people are coming from small towns and are singing into the back of somebody’s chairs. It’s a pretty high-pressure, nerve-wracking situation. It really is a cool perspective shift to see somebody who wants it so badly.”

With The Voice airing Monday on NBC, Dan + Shay are already looking to the future, hoping that their time on the show lasts longer than a single season. Excited about the new season, Smyers explained, “It’s just a really exciting, heart-pounding experience for us as coaches when the lights go down, not knowing what’s about to go into your ears. Hopefully they invite us back, because I’m having a little too much fun to give it up now.”

Throughout the seasons of The Voice, there have been numerous memorable moments thanks to coaches like Niall Horan and Blake Shelton. While celebrating season 25, for the first time, the show introduced their first double chair coach consisting of the country duo Dan + Shay. Although the duo are learning when it comes to building the perfect team, coaches Reba McEntire, John Legend, and Chance the Rapper view them as tough competition since there are two. Recently, wanting to know who they would pick as their double chair partner, John Legend pointed to a singer who once appeared on The Voice.

John Legend Wants Kelly Clarkson to Reprise Her Role as 'The Voice' Coach, Serve as His Double Chair Partner

While each coach had their own opinion on who they would pick, Legend seemed to already know. And going back to the original season of American Idol, the singer decided to pick none other than Kelly Clarkson. For fans of the show, they will recall that Clarkson appeared on several seasons of The Voice starting during season 14.

Discussing his reasoning behind picking Clarkson, Legend detailed how they both often found themselves fighting over the same artists. Believing they have similar tastes when it comes to aspiring artists, he explained how they would compliment each other throughout the show.

Fans seemed to love the idea of adding more double-chair coaches that didn’t consist of groups. One fan wrote, “Hey, that’s such a cool idea! The double chair doesn’t need to be filled only by groups, it could be like a collab coaching between two different artists! John and Kelly together as coaches would be a blast to watch, absolutely loved John’s choice!!!”

Dan + Shay Discuss Their Shared Rules On ‘The Voice’
Although having a second coach might sound great, Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney discussed what it was like to work together on The Voice. While agreeing on most things, Mooney admitted, “It’s kind of a learning curve to see how this whole thing goes. We may be new, but this isn’t our first rodeo. We are here to win.”

Sharing some of the rules they have in place, Mooney added, “We have to have rules about pressing the button. If you press the button, then I press the button. Then we keep alternating”

Blake Shelton, Dolly Parton & More Floated as ‘The Voice’ Mega Mentors; Here’s Who Actually Got the Job

Fans of The Voice have been speculating about who’s going to be the next Mega Mentor. Last season it was Wynonna Judd, while the season before that it was Reba McEntire, who then joined the show as a coach. Now, fans are wondering when the next mentor is going to be announced.

Keith Urban was briefly announced as the next Mega Mentor in a social media post that has since been deleted by The Voice‘s official Twitter/X account. The Voice did eventually re-post their announcement of Urban. Still, fans took to the original post about the Mega Mentor to cast their votes and share who they do and do not want.

Many fans want Christina Aguilera to return to the show as the next mentor, reminding The Voice that she “made you what you are today!” That fan also posted a video of Aguilera on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen from 2019, where he asked her about her feelings toward the show. She seemed to have mixed feelings about it, and shared those feelings candidly.

“It was an experience in my life,” she began, “and I think everything has a learning curve and something to be experienced … Integrity is a big deal for me, and I have to stand behind the products and the things that I do and put out. When I started the show … [I thought] ‘this is a whole concept that flips competition and all that on its ear.’” When asked if she was happy with how the show turned out, she replied quickly “No,” then said, “Well, that’s a complicated answer.”

Christina Aguilera Once Revealed Her Complicated Feelings About The Voice, Plus Could Kelly Clarkson Return?

“I just saw some ins and outs and inner workings that I was not happy with,” she continued. “I supported some really great talent on that show, and I don’t know why they haven’t had anyone really catapult from it yet … [for] me, I just know that I needed to step away and get back to what I love and what I love to do.”

As for other fans, some rooted for Kelly Clarkson to come back, but she seems to have a complicated relationship with The Voice as well. She left the show in May 2023 following her rough divorce and personal struggles. In October, she revealed that she faked a lot of smiles on set due to those struggles.

“I’ve learned a lot about what I’m capable of handling, and also what you should not handle. That was me saying ‘bye’ to The Voice and having this big move [to New York],” she told USA Today. “I love that family, but I was like, ‘I’m struggling, I can’t smile anymore. I don’t feel like smiling.’”

Clarkson, for her part, is happily hosting her daytime talk show in New York City, so it doesn’t look like fans will be seeing her back on The Voice any time soon.

Hijinks ensue on The Voice constantly, and fans have come to expect some ridiculousness from the coaches on a weekly basis. In a behind-the-scenes look at some outtakes from the show, John Legend bragged about beating Dan + Shay with a Playoff Pass, and Reba McEntire did a little dance backstage reminiscent of former coach Blake Shelton. Does anyone ever get any work done on The Voice? We may never know.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yyVIGtFz9Q

Peppered throughout the video were shots of McEntire dancing to the hype music, doing various moves and improvisations. At one point, Carson Daly told her, “That’s exactly how Blake [Shelton] dances,” as she circled her hands in front of her stiffly.

“It’s an Okie dance,” she replied, really leaning into it. She also kicked her knees up in a little jig, to which Daly responded, “That’s the Blake Shelton dance.” She’s the queen of country, but Reba McEntire also knows how to bust a move when the situation calls for it.

Additionally, in a moment that aired on the show as well, John Legend gloated about beating Dan + Shay to the punch with a Playoff Pass for Bryan Olesen. Legend initially chose Nathan Chester to move forward to the Knockouts, and Dan + Shay tried to steal Olesen. However, Legend slammed his Playoff Pass button, effectively making their Steal null and void.

“John just basically said he hates you guys,” Chance joked as the words “Playoff Pass” showed up in huge letters on the screen in front of the coaches. Legend then got out of his chair and took a picture of the words, which Dan Smyers posed in front of.

The Voice Competition Heats Up During the Battles as Contestants are Eliminated

The competition is starting to get fierce on The Voice as artists are slowly stolen or eliminated from teams. Recently, Alyssa Crosby was stolen from Team Reba by Chance, while Bryan Olesen, L. Rodgers, and Nadège grabbing a coveted Playoff Pass. They’ll be able to skip the Knockouts and go straight to the Playoffs.

There’s a new episode tonight (March 25) as the Battles move into round three. They continue into Tuesday (March 26). Both episodes will air on NBC and Peacock the next day, with Monday’s episode airing at 8 pm Eastern and Tuesdays at 9 pm Eastern.

‘The Voice’: Reba McEntire Chokes Up Over Josh Sanders’ Emotional Connection to Battle Song

Josh Sanders and Donny Van Slee’s performance of an upbeat Luke Combs song sparked some unexpected tears during Monday’s Battle Rounds.

Reba McEntire had an emotional moment during an unexpected song during Monday’s Battle Rounds on The Voice.

The country legend teamed up two of her team’s “good ol’ boys,” Josh Sanders and Donny Van Slee, for a performance of Luke Combs’ “When It Rains, It Pours.” While the song is mostly an upbeat, fun country vibe, Josh admitted to his coach that he was getting a different message from some of the lyrics.

“‘When it rains, it pours,’ that lyric hits me kinda heavy,” he shared. “I’m a dad of four girls. We had a son. He was born and passed away on my birthday.”

“It’s such a fun song, and I don’t wanna take it there,” he added, as Donny and Reba emotionally supported him.

See every contestant who advanced on “The Voice” season 25 — and which celeb coach's team they're on

Growing choked up as she spoke, Reba shared, “Before I go onstage, I ask the Holy Spirit to walk for me, talk for me, speak for me, sing for me… Ask him for that: ‘Put me in the right place for this song.’”

Josh certainly wasn’t dragged down with emotion when it came to his performance onstage. His impressive vocals and jaw-dropping runs had Reba’s fellow coaches — Dan + Shay, John Legend and Chance the Rapper — applauding the Battle performance.

And the Queen of Country herself couldn’t help but get choked up once again as she praised the singers, calling Donny’s performance “cute as a button.”

“It was fun, I enjoyed watching you,” she added.

However, between Josh’s emotional pull and impressive vocals, Reba had to name him the winner of the Battle, sending him on to the Knockout Rounds.

“Your runs, when you hit the high notes, everything was perfect,” she marveled. “Whatever you got from this song, it was just right.”

“I feel like I’ve known you forever,” she added to both singers, pausing to collect herself. “I just felt like we bonded, and that was really, really special to me.”

ET spoke with the season 25 coaches ahead of the premiere, where they shared what it’s been like to welcome The Voice’s first-ever coaching duo to the competition.

“They give great notes. They’re really good,” Reba praised. “They’re knowledgeable about the business but they also have a lot of heart and that’s what they’re going for.”

Dan + Shay say they’ve been fans of the show for years — they served as mentors for Blake Shelton’s team back in season 20 and even stepped in to guest coach Niall Horan’s team last season — but getting to serve as full-time coaches for the first time has been a whole new experience.

“It’s changed everything for us,” Shay admitted. “I just really enjoy the process of getting to work with these artists, and you really, you get attached. It becomes heartbreaking when you have to let people go. But it’s been an amazing experience.”

Chance the Rapper makes his return this season for the first time since his season 23 Voice debut, where he joined Blake, Niall and Kelly Clarkson. He told ET that it’s especially exciting to be back with a whole new roster of coaching talent.

“I’ve always just admired John and he’s helped me in so many different ways,” he reflected. “To be working with him and then to be around Reba, and Dan + Shay, and with this amazing crew… I do miss Blake, but it’s just cool to be back in the building.”

    www.nbc.com/sites/nbcblog/files/2024/03/the-voice-...

Despite the good vibes, however, the coaches are still plenty competitive. With Niall stepping away this season after winning back-to-back titles, the Voice trophy is up for grabs — and there’s a better-than-average chance it could go to a first-time champion, as only John has won the competition before.

“It’s getting heated out there for sure,” Shay revealed.

“That’s why we’re here,” Reba agreed.

The Voice airs Mondays at 8 p.m. PT/ET and and Tuesdays at 9 p.m. PT/ET on NBC, and streaming the next day on Peacock.

It’s time to turn on the TV and get our listening ears on, because The Voice season 25 is officially here!

Just months after Huntley was crowned as the winner of season 24, folks are tuning in to see the newest batch of artists vie for the chance to make their musical dreams come true. With Reba McEntire, John Legend, Chance the Rapper and Dan + Shay sitting in the iconic red chairs as this season’s coaches, there is no doubt they will find the best singers to mentor throughout the competition. What’s more, we can’t wait to see what hilarious dynamics play out, now that the show is debuting the first double chair for the coaches and incorporating new unexpected twists for the season.

While fans are ecstatic to see what the new installment will bring, many are saddened not to see Niall Horan as one of the coaches for season 25. After all, he helped lead both Huntley and Gina Miles to victory after debuting as a coach during season 23. Given his success rate, it’s hard to imagine why he’d decide to step away and leave The Voice for season 25. Turns out there’s an exciting reason behind his exit, and it has to do with Niall’s own successful music career.

Although Niall didn’t explicitly state the reason why he decided not to join The Voice for season 25, he’s currently on tour for his third album The Show. Niall kicked off The Show Live on Tour in Belfast, UK on February 21, and his schedule is packed with concert dates around the world through September 2024.

“I am beyond thrilled to announce The Show Live On Tour 2024!” Niall announced on Instagram back in May 2023. “It’s been far too long and I can’t wait to see your beautiful faces.”

Even though his job on The Voice seems to be on hold for now, Niall still takes his role as former mentor seriously. When Huntley spoke to Entertainment Tonight in December 2023 about his rapport with his coach, he shared how appreciative he is to have Niall on his side.

“Whenever I feel like I’m too busy or complaining about this process, I kind of just think back and I’m like, this dude’s literally flying around the world and still messaging me back on my emails,” he stated at the time. “It’s pretty cool — I respect it very, very much.”

Throughout the seasons of The Voice, the show welcomed stars like Shakira, Christina Aguilera, Pharrell Williams, Miley Cyrus, and even Kelly Clarkson as coaches. While the lineup of coaches has changed over the years, on the premiere of season 25, the show introduced a new way of looking at the coaches. Showcasing the first double chair, The Voice revealed that the duo group Dan + Shay would be taking the seats. Already proving they are looking to win on their first season, recently, Reba McEntire shared the singer she wanted if given the double chair.

Given the decades Reba spent performing on stage, the singer has rubbed shoulders with some of the biggest names in music. When asked about who she wanted to share coaching duties with, she decided to pick Bruno Mars. Having sold over 130 million albums worldwide and winning 15 Grammy Awards, the singer seemed more than qualified for the job.

While Reba already revealed her dream partner, she eventually walked back on the statement. Needing more time to think, the singer decided to make a substitution, naming Niall Horan as her new partner. Although a hypothetical question, she explained how she and Horan would be like “two little kids” if given the chance to work together.

Looking at what fans had to say, some loved the idea, writing, “The fact that she changed her chair choice would love to see Niall back on the show…That clip of her blocking the boy brought back the memories.” One comment included, “Knew someone would pick Niall. Wasn’t expecting Reba to be the one, though. But it’s so true what she says about Niall and she as a team.”

Back in September, Reba wondered how she would do if she competed on The Voice. At the time, she admitted, “I don’t think anybody would turn around for me. Honestly, I don’t. If they would, I’d be thrilled to pieces. But what an opportunity these kids are having, and some of [them] aren’t kids. Some are 16, 17 years old, and some people that come on The Voice are in their 30s and want to give it a go and are having fun with it. But what an opportunity to be seen by that many people all over the world for just a few minutes..”

Three new coaches plus a change-up to the teams that no one saw coming!

There was a lot to love about season 24 of The Voice, but one of the biggest things was the powerhouse that was Reba McEntire, who joined the show as a coach for the first time, replacing longtime coach country singer Blake Shelton. And although season 25 will have viewers seeing their favorite fiery redhead back in the coaching chair for a second round, this new season is facing a few changes that might leave longtime viewers surprised.

Not only will season 25 have their first two-person coaching duo, with Dan + Shay taking over for Niall Horan, who departed the show due to conflicts with his tour, as well as former coach Chance the Rapper returning to replace Gwen Stefani, but Reba recently confirmed that teams will be much smaller than in years past.

“Season 24 was 14 positions, and now we only have 10,” Reba said in a video shared in collaboration between the official Instagram of The Voice and Reba’s account. “So you really have to be selective, you really have to make sure that person is one you want on your team because the competition is really stiff.”

Fans were, of course, super surprised by the change. “Why are teams only going to be 10 people now?,” one person asked. “Only 10 on each team?! 😟 I swear these seasons are getting smaller and faster,” someone else wrote. “Why only 10 per team? What’s the obsession with shortening every season more? The show is better when you get to know the contestants for longer,” another said.

However, the disappointment couldn’t stall the happiness viewers felt when they learned Reba would be back.

“It’s going to be a fun season and I can’t wait to see you in the Coach chair Reba!! Go #TeamReba!!!❤️,” someone commented on that same clip. “Maybe an obvious observation but…Blake was so great and had such an outsized role in the show. It was hard to imagine how someone could ‘take his place’. . .ENTER REBA! Seamless,” another chimed in. “I am so glad you are back for another season,” a different person said.

One thing for sure? With three new coaches in the mix and a major team size change-up, viewers can be sure they’re in for a new season of surprises all around.
