John Legend and His Mom Have the Same Radiant Smile in Rare Photo for Her 70th B-Day

The mother of The Voice Coach shares her son’s features and singing talents.

John Legend posted rare pictures of his beautiful mother for her 70th birthday, and the two share a clear resemblance.

On March 6, The Voice Coach, whose real name is John Stephens, shared heartwarming snapshots of his lookalike mama, Phyllis Stephens. In the pictures, we see them giving big, matching smiles together. Phyllis wore a sparkly black dress, and Legend wore a streamlined black suit. We also caught a glimpse of Legend’s sister Phyllis “Missy” Stephens posing with the family, before a picture of Phyllis confidently singing to a crowd. (Now we know where Legend get his musical talents from!) The gathering took place in the EGOT winner’s hometown.

‘We celebrated my beautiful mother Phyllis Stephens and her 70th BIRTHDAY back home in Springfield, Ohio, this weekend! We love you deeply, Mom!” he captioned the post.

    Happy birthday, Phyllis!

What to know about John Legend’s mother, Phyllis Stephens

Along with Legend, Phyllis Stephens shares three other children with his father Roland Stephens: Ronald Stephens II, Vaughn Anthony Stephens, and Missy. The family grew up in Springfield where Phyllis worked as a seamstress and frequently made clothes for her kids.

For Mother’s Day 2023, Legend made a sweet Instagram post with Phyllis, where they went through childhood photos together and Legend ”reflect[ed] on the ways [his] mom made [him] feel good growing up.”

“I made this suit for you…your mama loved sailor outfits!” Phyllis commented on one photo.

“You liked making outfits for us. Why did you make so many outfits for us?” Legend asked.

”Because I wanted y’all to look good and have confidence in yourselves,” she replied.

Legend attributes his success as a musician to his mother. In an interview that Legend gave with The Guardian, he said that she was the choir director of the family’s local church. ”Every setting that I spent time in was filled with music. and by seven I had begged my mother to let me into the choir,” he said.

The ”All of Me” singer also said that Phyllis saw his musical talents from a young age and motivated him to pursue his passion. “Whenever we had opportunities to sing in church or in school, my mom would suggest that I do it. She always encouraged me,” he told People.

In 2019, Phyllis was at the 40th birthday party of Legend’s wife, Chrissy Teigen, and he also took his parents to the set of The Voice that year.

“She’s a good grandmother and is in such a good place,” Legend told The Guardian.

Esti has been up to a lot lately. This September, Teigen posted an adorable snapshot of Esti holding up a toy to the camera and smiling. In the picture, you can see that the little one is starting to grow her first baby teeth!

Esti also had another major milestone, as Legend revealed in an October interview with People that she recently started crawling. Then, on November 5, Teigen shared a snapshot of Esti eating pasta all by herself. In the picture, she has the biggest grin while spaghetti sauce is smeared all over her face. How cute!

The rapper has been slammed for his carnival conduct

Chance the Rapper is being called out for ‘inappropriate’ dancing at carnival while married.

The 30-year-old enjoyed a trip to Jamaica this week, at the annual carnival in the capital city, Kingston.

The ‘Juice’ singer, real name Chancelor Johnathan Bennett, has since caused some big waves on social media, and has split the internet right down the middle for his holiday grooving. See for yourself:

Chance first tied the knot with his wife, Kirsten Corley, back in 2019, and the cute couple have gone on to raise two children together.

The pair welcomed first daughter, Kensli, into their lives in 2015 and Marli Grace followed shortly after in 2019.

While the star boasts millions of adoring fans worldwide, it seems like some people aren’t so happy with the rapper’s controversial carnival conduct.

In a video posted to Instagram yesterday (18 April), Chance can be seen getting his boogie on amongst the buzzing crowd but it’s clear that he wasn’t dancing solo.

The father-of-two was shirtless as he danced behind a costumed carnival dancer, who also had another performer dancing on her.

Clearly having fun with a grin from ear to ear, the ‘Favourite Son’ rapper whined with the woman and slapped her backside a few times before walking away.

While Chance was enjoying the festivities – it’s apparent that not everyone else was on board with the weekend’s antics.

The video has since received over 15,000 likes with a whole load of comments from people eager to add in their two cents on the matter.

Many were totally outraged by the married man’s holiday behaviour with one Instagram user asking: “Ain’t he married?” accompanied with a shrugging shoulders emoji.

“If he’s married – he shouldn’t be about the place slapping a girl’s a**,” hit out a second critic.

“Nah,” commented a third, “stay off that married man and find a SINGLE one.”

    "Y’all really need to relax."
    Instagram/@xoduscarnival

Another social media user chimed in saying they were absolutely ‘shocked’ with the people defending Chance’s ‘inappropriate dancing’.

Such defenders of the rapper, however, maintained that the incident was just a bit of harmless holiday fun.

    Advert

“Y’all really need to relax it’s just whining,” posted one Instagram user.

Another echoed: “The fact that so many people asking if he not married just proves to me that Carnival needs to stay a Caribbean event because I can’t.”

“Carnival culture is take a whine and move on. Nothing personal. Just people having fun,” penned a third while a final Instagram user added: “Y’all worried about if he’s married and this man just enjoying himself.”

What do you make of it?

Chance the Rapper shares sweet photos and videos of his daughter Kensli’s kindergarten graduation

Chance the Rapper is one proud father!

The award-winning artist celebrated his daughter Kensli Bennett’s graduation from kindergarten with a loving tribute on Tuesday.

To mark the special moment, Chance posted several photos and videos from the day and wrote a lengthy message about his 5-year-old’s progress.

“Kensli finished Kindergarten at home with flying colors!!” he began. “Her September birthday would’ve placed her in preschool again this past school year, but nothing is stopping this genius!!!”

“We had her in homeschool with the amazing @ms.bri.mclean who gave her an accelerated Kindergarten course with focuses not only in math and reading, but also arts and history from a radical lens,” he continued, mentioning Kensli’s teacher, Briana McLean.

Chance went on to say that Kensli “directed movies, wrote books, went on nature walks, learned advanced math,” among other activities, while she was being home schooled.

“Her Social and Emotional skills are better than some adults, like I’m literally so proud,” he boasted. “She’s moving on to the FIRST GRADE and tested in the 97 percentile in math and 99 percentile for reading… OUT OF THE KIDS THATS OLDER THAN HER.”

He also stated that his immense pride in her accomplishments stems from his own father.

“If u ever met my dad you would understand I come from a long line of people being extremely proud of their kids, but KENSLI YOU GIVE ME THE BEST REASONS,” he wrote.

The artist, who actively supports the Chicago Public School System, has previously spoken about how important promoting education for children across the nation is to him.

He said his desire to help came from the impact of his own education.

“It wasn’t until after I got out of high school that I really understood the disparity in the education that I received going to a more prestigious school downtown in Chicago versus my neighborhood school and saw the difference in the trajectory of the lives of mine and some of my friends that grew up and went to the neighborhood schools by my house,” he told “Good Morning America” last year.

“That was a causation for me to go and work with the Chicago Public School System and focus on the funding formulas — kind of being an equity for kids that were from my neighborhood and for some of the black and brown neighborhoods in Chicago,” he added.

Chance’s wife, Kirsten Corley Bennett, also shared a post for their daughter to mark the milestone on Tuesday.

Alongside a video of Kensli throwing up her cap, Bennett wrote, “I’m not crying your crying … Kensli is graduating kindergarten y’all. I’m not ok. But I’m so proud of her!!!”

Chance and Kirsten are also parents to 1-year-old Marli Grace.

Reba McEntire Says She’s Not the “Best Singer,” But This Is Her Key to Success

The Voice Season 24 Coach is humble when it comes to her (incredible) pipes.

Withh 17 Grammy nominations — and three wins — Reba McEntire is one of the most celebrated Artists in country music. She has one of the most recognizable (and beautiful) voices in the genre, but she won’t say that herself. No, the Season 24 Coach of The Voice is the first person to downplay her outstanding technical abilities. What can we say? She’s humble like that.

And while it’s certainly admirable to be humble, it’s just factual to say Reba McEntire is a vocal tour de force. Just listen to songs like “Fancy” and “Turn on the Radio” as proof. Even still, McEntire says it’s not her voice that’s given her the success she has — it’s something that can’t be easily quantified. And she’s hoping to infuse that something into her team members on The Voice this fall. (Season 24, featuring McEntire as a Coach, premieres September 25 at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.)

In a recent interview with NBC Insider, McEntire opened up about what she hopes to bring to her Artists on The Voice. What she said low-key revealed her own secret for achieving longevity in the music biz.

“I think my [professional] strong points are emotion and showmanship,” she said. “Connecting with an audience. That’s really big for me. I’m not the best singer. I am not the best dancer on stage with choreography or anything, but I do know how after many years of doing this how to connect with an audience — because I like to watch other entertainers and see how they do it. I pick up and I steal from other professionals who have been doing it longer than I have. That’s hard to imagine, ’cause I’ve been around for a long time, but it’s always fun to learn and see what other people are doing.”

Fans will have to tune in to The Voice this season to see how McEntire’s team learns from her. With the decades of experience she’s bringing to her Contestants, we know they’re in great hands.

How Does Reba McEntire Feel About Getting Sexy for More Fans?

Country superstar Reba McEntire is a certified icon of many talents. And she’s known for her fashion choices, specifically her onstage costumes. But the late Larry King once asked her if she’d ever considered trying to “sex it up” in her career, and her answer may surprise some.

Did McEntire ever want to be a typical sex symbol?

Reba McEntire in a low-cut red dress, smilingReba McEntire | Isaac Brekken/Getty Images for ACM

Reba McEntire: ‘Being sexy is kind of funny to me.’

Some fans might be curious — as King apparently was — whether or not McEntire was ever interested in dropping her more wholesome image for something racier.

“Now, what about this clean image of Reba McEntire?” King asked the country star on CNN’s Larry King Live. “Have people ever said to you, sex it up a little?”

McEntire responded by telling King no one had done such a thing, and he got a little more direct. “Why not?” he asked. “You’re gorgeous.”

The singer politely thanked him for the compliment and said she has her own ideas about what’s sexy. “I’m more of the down-home — I guess, you know, the good-old girl,” she explained. “Being sexy is kind of funny to me. You know, I can get kind of spunky or I can get tough … that kind of tough, sexy look.”

But what about showing her sexual side in her art in some way?

“No, I don’t think so,” she concluded on being sexy. “Just what you see is what you get on me. And it’s never been anything of a sexual nature.”

Reba McEntire prefers a ‘tough sexy’ style

Of course, McEntire seems to love glamming up for the red carpet and awards shows. But she says she prefers the simple but stylish look of jeans, boots, a sexy top, and a jacket more than the rest. And the superstar singer emphasizes comfort is the most important aspect of clothes for her.

“My favorite part about fashion is comfort. You gotta look good, and I like the term tough sexy, but its gotta be comfortable,” she explained to E News. “If you’re going to wear boots and jeans and a sexy top and like a jacket over it, I love that the best.”

Reba McEntire and the red dress

Notably, McEntire has been known to crank up the sexiness of her fashion choices sporadically throughout her career. In 1993, she donned a jaw-dropping red dress to perform her hit, “Does He Love You,” with Linda Davis at the Country Music Awards.

“It was very revealing, and I didn’t know that! I had only had two fittings with [designer] Sandy Spika — one was at our office, and I said, ‘I think you need to fill some more stuff in!’” McEntire recalls to People. “When I put it on in the dressing room at the Grand Ole Opry for the show, I thought, ‘Maybe it’s just the lighting in here.’”

She knew when she walked on the stage it wasn’t the lighting. The “Fancy” singer said, “I heard the audience go ‘Oooooh!’ And I thought, ‘Dang, I look good!’”

Impressively, she wore the dress again in 2018 — showing she knows when to bring sexy back.

Blake Shelton joins a long list of country music superstars who hail from the state of Oklahoma – Carrie Underwood, Garth Brooks, Vince Gill, Joe Diffie, and many more. Also included in this coveted group are Reba McEntire and the late Toby Keith, both of whom Shelton says inspired him to want to pursue a career in country music.

“It’s pretty crazy when you look down the list of artists that have come from Oklahoma. It’s a huge list and it’s a lot of superstars,” Shelton told Storme Warren on the air of The Big 615. “Growing up in Oklahoma, that was part of the drive that gave me the confidence to come to Nashville was knowing that Reba was just 20 miles from here. I mean, I’m talking about she came from the middle of nowhere and now she’s the biggest star in country music. It was really inspiring.”

He then recalled seeing Keith achieve major success with his signature song, “Should’ve Been A Cowboy,” and realizing that if these artists could get out of their small towns and make it to the big time, maybe he would have a chance at doing the same.

“I remember when Toby came out being from Oklahoma and ‘Should’ve Been A Cowboy,’ and my mom saying, ‘Oh my gosh, I saw that guy in Oklahoma City last year.’”

Thanks to the motivation from Keith and McEntire, Shelton’s determination to follow his dreams led him to build his own wildly successful career over two decades later. He’s now racked up 28 No. 1 singles, sold nearly 15 million album equivalents, and has received a slew of major awards, including six ACMs, three AMAs, 10 CMAs, 11 CMTs and more. As a result of his career, Shelton also got the chance to form close friendships with both of his musical heroes.

All For The Hall Oklahoma Concert

Underneath all his fame is the same Okie native who is will always be proud of where he came from. The Grand Ole Opry member plans to show his gratitude with a special All for the Hall concert at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma,on Saturday, March 30.

The upcoming show will be what Shelton dubs a “huge fun jam night” benefitting Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum and its education programs. This will mark the first All for the Hall concert to take place in The Sooner State.

“We’re working hard to put this thing together. It is a benefit for the Country Music Hall of Fame, which we’re excited about, but for you guys coming to the show, it’s just going to be one incredible epic concert,” Shelton shared via Instagram. “It’s just going to be one great Oklahoma artist after another. So you don’t want to miss this thing. See you guys there.”

The “Austin” singer will be headlining the show while several other artists are set to join him on stage to perform a few of their songs as well. Among the artists who have been tapped to appear include Music Hall of Fame member Ronnie Dunn, Tony and Emmy Award-winner Kristin Chenoweth, ACM and CMA nominee Wade Hayes, and beloved songwriters/performers The Swon Brothers. There will likely be even more performers who have yet to be announced.

Toby Keith Had Planned To Be At The Show

During his conversation with Storme Warren, Shelton revealed that before Toby Keith passed in early February, he too had planned to there to show his support for his home state.
