Reba McEntire Reveals What She’d Say to Taylor Swift at the Super Bowl

With the hours ticking down to Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday (Feb. 11), fans are still speculating about whether Taylor Swift will be in the stands cheering on her boyfriend, Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce.

Reba McEntire Reveals What She’d Say to Taylor Swift at the Super Bowl

Reba McEntire is no exception. Speaking to People ahead of the game, where she’s set to sing the national anthem, McEntire says she knows exactly what she’ll say to Swift if the two stars cross paths at the Super Bowl.

“I’m going to tell her congratulations on the Grammys. My gosh,” McEntire raves. Swift won two awards at the show last Sunday (Feb. 4), including a history-making Album of the Year win.

“She took that thing by storm,” McEntire continues, adding that she’s also “thrilled to death” that Swift and Kelce are in a relationship, and that “Travis is a cutie pie.”

McEntire is one of three stars taking the stage before kickoff: Rapper Post Malone is performing “America the Beautiful,” R&B singer Andra Day is singing “Lift Every Voice and Sing” and of course, McEntire will cap things off with “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

But the country great knows she’s just there to supplement the main attraction: Football. “You know, it’s not about me. It’s about everybody who worked so hard to get to the Super Bowl, and my job is to bring the patriotism,” McEntire relates.

Reba McEntire denies bashing Taylor Swift, shuts down fake news report | Fox News

“I’m going to be singing for not only the people who are gonna be performing and playing on the field that day, but it’s for everybody who has worked so hard to ensure our freedom and try to have as much peace on earth as we can,” she goes on to say. “It’s not about me. I’m just the conduit and the water hose who gets to sing the song.”

Which Other Country Stars Have Sung the National Anthem at the Super Bowl?

Having three patriotic songs to kick off the game is a bit of a left turn for the Super Bowl, which typically features just one performance of the national anthem from a different superstar each year.

The show has now booked country singers to perform the anthem for four years running. Before McEntire’s 2024 anthem gig, Chris Stapleton did the honors in 2023, and his bluesy “Star-Spangled Banner” is still one of the show’s most buzzed-about moments.

Mickey Guyton sang the anthem in 2022, and Eric Church teamed up with Jazmine Sullivan in 2021. Over the years, plenty of other stars have repped the genre for the national anthem performance: Remember Garth Brook’s high-drama 1993 Super Bowl gig? Faith Hill, the Chicks, Luke Bryan and Carrie Underwood are all among those who’ve sang the anthem before the big game, too.

Reba McEntire addresses claim she called Taylor Swift a 'spoiled brat' after alleged Super Bowl diss

Will Taylor Swift Be at the 2024 Super Bowl?

It’s hard to say for sure whether or not Swift will attend the Super Bowl this year, but the bottom line is, it’s certainly possible.

The Kansas City Chiefs will face off against the San Francisco 49ers at Super Bowl LVIII, meaning that Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce — who’s currently dating Swift — will be playing in the big game.
Swift has attended every Chiefs game this season that doesn’t conflict with her current Eras Tour.
The superstar recently resumed the international leg of her Eras Tour, and she played a show in Tokyo, Japan on Feb. 10 — one day before the Super Bowl on Feb. 11.
However, thanks to her private jet and the magic of time zones, Swift still has plenty of time to make it back to Las Vegas, Nev. in time for the big game.

Reba McEntire Says God Is Her Best Friend; Says Christians Can Still Have Fun

Country superstar Reba McEntire shares some insight with those who think Christian churchgoers don’t have fun, as she gears up to release her first gospel album, Sing It Now: Songs of Faith & Hope.

In a recent interview with The Christian Post, McEntire shared her faith journey, her inspiration behind her gospel album and talked passionately about what Jesus really means to her.

In 2015, McEntire announced her divorce from her husband of more than 20 years. The singer credits God and her Christian faith for getting her through the split. Shortly after, McEntire signed a new deal with Nash Icon Records and her label teamed up with Capitol Christian Music Group for the release of Sing It Now: Songs of Faith & Hope.

The album was co-produced by McEntire, band leader-musical director Doug Sisemore and Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts in his home studio. It highlights traditional well-known Christian hymns throughout the first 10 songs and then transitions into sincere, well-written and produced original contemporary tracks.

Below is an edited transcript of McEntire’s interview in which she shares her heart for the Lord, advice for unbelievers and her testimony of faith.

Christian Post: Can you share with us what was your coming to Christ moment?

McEntire: I really don’t know when that moment was because I’ve always known the Lord. Ever since I was a little bitty girl, grandma would read from the Bible and read us Bible stories. I talked to Susie (McEntire’s sister) about this a while back and we were in the same agreement. We’ve known the Lord forever. There’s not been a time where it was like – “Oh this is our Jesus story;” it’s just always been there for us.

CP: What would you say was different about writing an album directed toward God and your faith?

McEntire: Nothing, there’s nothing I did different in this album than the way I approach other albums; it’s just finding more gospel-based music. A lot of the songs I sing in country-based music could be spiritual or secular. There’s a lot of songs that I’ve done that are almost spiritual songs. Just this album itself was trying to find the best that touched my heart so that when I sing it, it’ll touch your heart too.

The difference is, Doug Sizemore, my co-producer, brought this up, he said that I sounded different. That I would sing the songs different. I guess because they touched my heart so much that I was moved to the core of my soul with the songs.

CP: What would you say to people in the mainstream world that have a negative outlook on Christianity?

McEntire: I just feel like the people who are discouraged about religion, it’s [really] the connotation of people that go to church. People that go to church love the Lord and they like to be around people who love the Lord. It’s a fellowship and it’s a growth and it’s a feeding for them that when they’re in a social group of people who believe, it makes them grow spiritually.

People who don’t believe in the religious connotation feel like if they’re in the religious sector in that group that they will not be able to have any fun anymore. I totally disagree with that theory. I don’t see where it has to be black or white. Why can’t it just be in the middle? And everybody still have a great time talking about the Lord, enjoying that fellowship in a group Bible study and still enjoy life. Why can’t it be in the middle where everybody is comfortable? Loving the Lord, praising everything that He does for us, and just loosen up.

CP: Why would you encourage people to turn to God as some of your songs on your new album suggest?

McEntire: I can’t imagine living a life without God in my life. He is my best friend, He’s my buddy, He’s the one that I talk to when there’s no one around. I talk to Him when people are around a lot too. He’s my confidant, He’s my advisor, He’s my director. I just don’t know why you wouldn’t want that in your life. He’s just like a bodyguard, He is your protector.

He does neat things for my entertainment, and my enjoyment. I got in the car the other day and I was driving and I turn the corner and there was the most beautiful rainbow. And I was like, “Wow, thanks for letting me see that.” It’s just the beautiful things that I get to see and hear and smell. One of the songs says, “There is a God, how much more proof do you need?”

CP: In the song “God and My Girlfriends,” you talk about having a community that helps you overcome difficult times. Can you talk about the importance of a faith-based community?

McEntire: This song “God and My Girlfriends” is a song that I thought I could release as a country record. I’ve had it for probably six years and I thought, “Man this is a great song.” But it just never did make the cut before this gospel album, it was perfect for it.

Because of the last two years I’ve had some difficult times going through the divorce, and my relationship with God and my faith in God has helped me tremendously. And not only has God helped me but my girlfriends have helped me. They’ve been there for me — to help me vent and talk through stuff. So this song fit me perfectly; it’s almost autobiographical for me.

CP: Is there anything else you’d like to add?

McEntire: I’m glad that I’ve got this opportunity to record an album. I thank Nash icon at capitol Christian music records for allowing me to do this because it is something that I’ve always wanted to do. I didn’t do it in the past because my little sister sings gospel music and she’s had several albums out and so I’m really grateful that I got to do this. I hope everybody enjoys the album as much as I have enjoyed to record it.

McEntire’s moving national anthem performance moved countless fans and Judd was not immune. The “No One Else on Earth” singer took to social media to praise her fellow country star after the performance. She shared a photo of herself standing in front of her television with her hands raised like she was catching the Holy Spirit during a Sunday morning sermon. She added the caption, “Well done my sister,” to the image.

Judd and McEntire share more in common than being powerhouse vocalists and country music royalty. Both are members of the Country Music Hall of Fame. Judd was inducted in 2022, eleven years after McEntire received the honor in 2011. Additionally, Judd appeared on The Voice as a Mega Mentor during McEntire’s first year as a coach.

Now, both artists share the honor of performing at the Super Bowl. The Judds—Wynonna and Namoi—performed during the halftime show at the Big Game in 1994. They did so alongside other country music heavy-hitters like Tanya Tucker, Travis Tritt, and Clint Black. The finale of that show also included the stars’ family members as well as Charlie Daniels and Stevie Wonder.

While there, she shared her feelings about performing at the Big Game. “It means a lot to me,” she said. “I am honored beyond words to be chosen to sing [the national anthem]. It means that I get to sing a very special song for all Americans and people all around the world who have really worked so hard for our freedom and to give us peace,” she added.

The country music legend proved she could definitely hold her own on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City while reenacting Meredith Marks‘ viral season four Palm Springs dinner meltdown berating costar Angie Katsanevas on Watch What Happens Live Oct. 11.

“This is lame and embarrassing—for you!” the Reba star read in her most serious voice as host Andy Cohen watched in disbelief. “I’m not interested, you can leave! You can leave. If you all think she is your friend, you stay with her. You are nobody’s friend. You are an ugly human being.”

The soliloquy then transitioned to Meredith’s rant to Lisa Barlow later that night about Angie’s husband Shawn Trujillo.

“If I want to go for the jugular and talk about this crap, the ruuumors, the nastiness about her, oh I can do that,” Reba continued in full character. “You want me to go there with her husband, I can do that. Don’t you mess with me! You tell her to back off.”

Of course, Bravo fans went crazy for the reenactment on social media with Meredith even responding on WWHL‘s Instagram.

“Beyond!!!!” the reality star commented before The Voice coach added, “We had too much fun.”

RHOSLC has become a popular source for Andy’s late night theater segment. In fact, last November, Ralph Fiennes performed a dramatic reading of Lisa’s infamous season two hot mic rant, complete with dimmed lights and background music.

And for Lisa, being the subject of WWHL‘s infamous “Clubhouse Playhouse” brought mixed emotions.

“It was crazy,” she exclusively told E! News after seeing her tirade reenacted by the Oscar nominee. “I cringe listening to my words, like beyond cringe. But I mean, Ralph Fiennes, he’s everything. He’s so dynamic and to have him read that, I was like, ‘This is amazing. I need a copy of your script.’ And then, I also am cringing. It was like cool and crazy at the same time.”

Why Does Chance the Rapper Always Wear a “3” Hat?

“I wanted to put something else on the hat,” he explained to GQ. Watch The Voice on NBC.

As a Coach on The Voice, Chance the Rapper brings his valuable mentorship and signature style to the show. That style includes his iconic “3” hat.

In case you haven’t noticed, Chance has been regularly sporting different variations of a baseball cap with the number “3” on it during the vast majority of his public appearances. But why, exactly, does he choose this attire? The exact reason is pretty interesting.

Why does Chance the Rapper always wear a “3” hat?

Chance the Rapper’s hat-wearing days started when he was just a teenager. “I used to always rock a cap when I was in high school and get them taken away. It was an excessive amount. Like, so often that at the end of each school year, there would be a box of all the confiscated caps. After they gave back a few caps to other kids, they would just give me the box because the rest were all my hats. So I think, in one part, it’s a rebellion,” he told GQ.

But when it comes to the origins of the “3” symbol specifically, it has to do with his third project, 2016’s Coloring Book.

“I wanted to put something else on the hat,” he said. “And so I decided to do ‘3’. I just thought that that made the most sense because it was the third project. Also, I was having a lot of trouble figuring out what the title of the project was going to be and what typography to put the title in. The original title for the project was, uh, The Magnificent Coloring Book. But that’s just so many words and it looks so shitty, no matter how I put it on the hat.”

The hat also has a sentimental meaning. “I’ve rationalized it to myself that it stands for the third mixtape, the holy trinity, and the three-pronged family of myself, my daughter, and my girl,” he said.

Chance opened up about his experience on TODAY in March 2023. “I feel like the other Coaches were so welcoming,” he said fondly.

He added, “My main goal on being on the show is trying to help the other Artists bring themselves out of their performances. I wanna give people the opportunity to show their identity, to tell their story through song. It’s not so much about turning them into an Artist but just giving them a platform to be themselves, sing the songs they grew up listening to, really just present themselves fully.”

Why John Legend Called Chance the Rapper “Sadistic” and a “Villain” on The Voice

Why John Legend Called Chance the Rapper “Sadistic” and a “Villain” on The Voice

All in good fun, of course. But things are definitely getting playfully heated during the Battles on The Voice Season 25!

Nadège Gives a Silky Smooth Performance of Daniel Caesar’s “Get You” | The Voice Blind Auditions

We’re not sure just how sorry to feel for John Legend after his latest epic standoff against Chance the Rapper on The Voice. After all, Legend’s not exactly hurting to score his first big win on the show, especially after locking in Season 16 winner Maelyn Jarmon back in 2019 to secure a permanent place of honor in the Coaches’ winners’ circle.

But things are admittedly looking a little bit rough for the Grammy-winning superstar as this season’s intrigue rolls along. After Chance hilariously upstaged Legend by singing an impromptu duet (using Legend’s own song!) with Season 25 Artist Nadège during Blind Auditions, Legend once again found himself right back where he started this week… on the outside looking in.

Right at the moment when Legend finally looked ready to steal at least one of Team Chance’s talented singers over to his side during the Battles round, Chance struck upon a “dastardly” way to keep his Coaching nemesis locked out of yet another golden opportunity. It’s just one more heartbreak this season for Legend, who’s quickly learning to cast a wary eye at the mounting threat from Team Chance.

Along with fellow Team Chance Artist Maddi Jane, Nadège had just let it rip this week with an inspired string of pitch-perfect vocal runs for the duo’s Battle round cover of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” by Frankie Valli. And knowing that Chance could only chose one Artist to send along to the Knockouts, Legend could barely contain his excitement at finally swooping in to scoop up one of this season’s most promising Artists.

“I fought for both of you and I’m so jealous that you are not on Team Legend right now — aside from my team!” Legend hinted as he waited for Chance to decide. “I think you two have been my favorite because you’ve found your own ways of being yourself while also being great together. … I’m sitting here waiting to steal somebody, I’m telling you now!”
John Legend & Son Miles Match in Pink at the Barbie Mansion | NBC Insider
Maybe Legend should’ve kept his stealing ambitions a little bit more of a secret — because the eager Coach only managed to get a few more words out before Chance used his own Playoff Pass to yank Nadège right out from under his nose.

“I’ve been telling her since the Blinds — ‘I love you Nadège! I think you have such a beautiful gift,’” Legend managed to stammer, just as Chance interrupted the Steal attempt by cashing in with a well-timed use of his Playoff Pass. It made for an awesomely dramatic TV moment, complete with Chance gloating over the victory while Legend, fully defeated, walked over to rain down a funny fake beatdown on the Season 25 Coach who’s swiftly turning into an (all in good fun) arch-rival.

“It’s sadistic!” pleaded Legend cheekily as Chance basked in yet another big win. “Chance is a dastardly villain. He turned a knife in me! I was already in so much pain after losing [Nadège] to him in the Blinds… and he does it to me again. I think I need to understand that Chance is my ‘enemy’ now — simple as that!”

  • Why The Voice’s ‘real DNA’ has never changed?

Why The Voice’s ‘real DNA’ has never changed?

‘The Voice’ is in its 25th season. John Legend, Gwen Stefani and Carson Daly reflect on the show’s staying power and why its ‘real DNA’ has never changed

Nearly 13 years after its 2011 premiere, “The Voice” is deep into its 25th season with no signs of slowing down.

    THE VOICE --

When The Voice premiered on NBC in spring 2011, the move wasn’t without its risks.
At the time, the television landscape for singing competition shows was largely dominated by American Idol, still running at peak popularity on Fox. There were also a plethora of similarly themed programs like The X Factor and The Glee Project aiming to capture a piece of the musical pie. Adding to an already cluttered climate of music competition shows seemed like a minimal return on investment.

    The gamble paid off.

Nearly 13 years later, The Voice is deep into its 25th cycle with no signs of slowing down. Despite traditional television ratings steadily dropping as audience viewing habits evolve in the streaming era, the eight-time Emmy winner has proven its staying power and become one of network TV’s most consistent powerhouses.

The Voice was among the top 20 most-watched shows during the 2022-23 television season, beating Idol, now on ABC, in total viewers.
“When we launched, American Idol was so strong. The television singing competition marketplace was full,” Carson Daly, host and executive producer of The Voice, told Yahoo Entertainment. “People thought we were crazy to put another singing show on. They thought we would only last maybe a year. It’s ironic that it’s lasted 25 seasons.”
Executive producer Audrey Morrissey credited The Voice’s longevity to its unique format, in which the coaches are the gateway for viewers, and the spotlight is put on pure talent via the blind auditions.

“What people come back to the show for is entertainment, whether they like the coaches or they like the banter and the jokes — all of that was unique,” she told Yahoo Entertainment. “Right from the get-go, coaches are competing to draft teams; they all want to win. At the end of the day, people love a good underdog story, and they want to see deserving, talented people excel. They want to see them grow and put on great performances.”

    Why ‘The Voice’ stands out

Adapted from the 2010 Dutch format The Voice of Holland, The Voice differentiated itself from its competitors by focusing on aspiring contestants’ voices without any visual prejudice. Through the blind auditions, singers had the upper hand — showcasing their vocal and musical talents with the hopes of a red-chair turn from one (or all four) of the coaches.
Some contestants were so impressive, it took mere seconds for that to happen, like Jesse Campbell’s five-second turn in Season 2.

Coupled with the power of a dynamic coaches panel, The Voice had key ingredients in place to accelerate past the competition.
In the early seasons when the show was in its infancy, drawing superstar coaches wasn’t easy.
“Way back in Season 1, nobody knew what the show was, so that was really the big test: Who was going to do it and why?” Morrissey recalled.
“It was very difficult to find people in the beginning,” Daly added.
The first three seasons of The Voice featured a coaches lineup of Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera and CeeLo Green. They “set the tone for what the show would become and still is,” Morrissey said. “Those original four really were magic.”

The blind audition was enticing for many of the coaches The Voice has attracted over the years. It has served as a reminder that the first interaction someone usually has with a person’s music is often auditory.
“Bar none, everybody was intrigued,” Morrissey said. “You have the signature sound, you have the personality that is coming through, and they all felt like the blind auditions were like that. Then, of course, you turn the chairs and everything else comes into play.”
John Legend joined The Voice in 2019 during the 16th cycle, and after returning in 2024 following a hiatus, this will mark his ninth season as a coach.
“There’s nothing like [the blind auditions] on any other show, and I think that emphasis on The Voice has always made our show stand out,” Legend told Yahoo Entertainment. “It was such a cool way to experience listening to a singer by not looking at them and really focusing on what they sound like.”
Gwen Stefani, who joined in Season 7 and has sat in the red chair for seven cycles (and served as an adviser for two), shared similar sentiments. “You connect with the person onstage purely because of their voice and how it moves you and the connection you feel that makes you hit your button and turn around,” she told Yahoo Entertainment in an email.

Jordan Smith, who won Season 9 of The Voice in 2015 as a member of Levine’s team, acknowledged that the show afforded him an opportunity he wouldn’t otherwise have.
“I didn’t look like a pop star. I didn’t necessarily have that star quality that people are looking for as an artist,” the singer told Yahoo Entertainment. “The thought of being able to go and have a blind audition where my chances of success was based solely on my gift and the quality of my voice and not on what I looked like or where I came from was very attractive to me.”
    What brings coaches, viewers back
In early seasons, the show regularly averaged 14 million to 15 million viewers per episode. While ratings may never return to those peak levels, the show still earns healthy numbers. The Season 25 premiere drew 6.2 million viewers on Feb. 26.
Since The Voice’s debut, an impressive stable of music stars and producers have sat in the red chairs, including Pharrell Williams, Miley Cyrus, Shakira, Ariana Grande, Nick Jonas and Usher. Mentoring hopefuls has been a large reason coaches keep coming back, looking to pay it forward. Some even return to The Voice at different stages of their careers, Morrissey said.
“Somebody like Gwen is a great example,” Daly said. “She loves going to work on The Voice because she gets to help young girls and boys.”
Being on The Voice has been a motivating and life-changing experience for Stefani, who met her now-husband, Shelton, when they both were coaches. “The most memorable moment. It’s something I never expected,” she said. “There are so many wonderful memories we have from the show together, and it’s been an incredible chapter of my life.”

    Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton.

Shelton was the longest-tenured coach on The Voice, remaining on the show for 23 seasons before departing in May 2023.
“Someone like Blake who was on the show for 13 years, he started the show and left the show at two very different places in his career,” Morrissey said. “There really comes a time for someone to say, ‘I’ve lived my dream, I’ve traveled the world, I’ve done it all, and I’m excited to pay it forward and shine a light on you all.’ I think that’s a big part of why they do it.”
That rang true for Legend, who won The Voice during his first season as a coach with folk singer Maelyn Jarmon.
“The opportunity to coach those artists, give them advice, compete with those artists and hopefully make great entertainment for our audience has been a lot of fun for me,” he said. “Whenever they ask me to come back, if I’m able to do it and my schedule allows, I’m always excited.”
Refreshing the coaches lineup meant there were new reasons for audiences to tune back in.
“We felt like we could survive that [revolving door], and we used it as a selling tool,” Daly said. “‘We’re losing Pharrell, but we’re getting Usher.’ We just made that work for us.”
It also provided fresh dynamics and allowed for coaches’ personalities to surface. Morrissey recalled being surprised by Alicia Keys (“She was really silly and had this funny giggle — America got to see that”), who was a coach on Seasons 11, 12 and 14, and Williams (“He’s a wonderful personality, really funny, uber-competitive”), who was a coach on Seasons 7 through 10.
“What makes a good coach is a good person,” Daly said. “Whoever you think is one of our best coaches, they’re extensions of who they are. You can’t really be a coach on The Voice and fake it.”
‘We’ve never changed the real DNA of the show’
Keeping The Voice relevant and engaging has been a constant learning process, producers say. Tweaks and additions to the show’s general rules have been made to enhance and evolve the singing competition.
“I think it’s trying to pay attention to what’s happening around us in pop culture and making sure an appropriate way to represent that on the show is happening,” Morrissey said, “while not taking your eye off the prize of the fundamentals — the things you have to deliver on: the right coaches with the right personalities and attitudes toward the show.”
Daly credits the show’s format for its ability to weather the competition.
“The format is so strong — stronger than any one coach, any one host, any one of us. I think that’s really why the show’s been successful,” he said. “We added the steals, we added the saves, we’ve added the block. We’ve tweaked the format to make it more interesting, but we’ve never changed the real DNA of the show.”
Daly is confident The Voice has a long shelf life, saying, “The show has zero signs of aging.
“People watch content differently,” he said. “Ratings are down across the board in traditional television viewing, but the way The Voice makes people feel is still at an all-time high.”
The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays on NBC

You don’t need to be a country music fan to know that Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton are of two of country music’s most legendary ladies. While it wouldn’t surprise anyone that the two singer and songwriters have run in the same circles, you might not have realized that these ladies have also been friends for over 40 years. Dolly recently shared on Instagram, “With a friendship that’s lasted over 40 years, @reba and I always have a lot to talk about! I am honored to be a guest on her brand new podcast ‘Living & Learning with Reba McEntire.’”

Dolly is referring to Reba McEntire’s new Spotify podcast, “Living and Learning With Reba McEntire” which debuted on Monday, September 21. Sharing advice on forging one’s own path both career and in one’s life, these two ladies have a lengthy shared history from which to draw material.

While McEntire shared her story of getting back to business for her production crew after divorce, Parton shared her tough decision not to sell away her rights to hit song and save her legacy for her family with “I Will Always Love You” when Elvis’ agent asked for more than she felt was fair. These women are strong leaders, savvy businesswomen, and talented entertainers, who still show immense heart for those that are part of their lives.

McEntire describes the relationship during the podcast saying to Parton, “It’s true Dolly, you’ve always [been my idol]. I’ve always looked up to you,” (via Gossip Cop). The two have worked together in tv appearances, but have never recorded and album or toured together musically, although they both seem to like the idea — they’re just very busy women (via Cheatsheet). McEntire has once used Parton’s band, though, as Parton offered her a hand up when McEntire’s lost her own crew in 1991.

Blake Shelton and The Voice went hand-in-hand for 12 years. Despite the many coaching changes, Blake was the only original coach to stay seated in his red chair — until season 23. Ahead of the season’s premiere, Blake announced that he would be exiting The Voice once the season ended.

The Voice season 24 features familiar faces in the red chairs — Niall HoranGwen StefaniReba McEntire, and John Legend — but Blake’s absence is clearly felt. However, he’s making sure no one on The Voice forgets about him. His voice has already popped up this season. Hollywood Life is answering all your burning questions about why Blake quit The Voice after 23 seasons.

Why Did Blake Shelton Quit ‘The Voice’?

In November 2023, Blake opened up about why he left The Voice when he did and explained why he doesn’t miss the show right now. “To be totally honest about it, I wasn’t even planning on being there that long,” he said on The Jennifer Hudson Show.

He continued, “I was planning on wrapping it up around 20 seasons or 21 seasons and then obviously COVID hit and then I didn’t want to walk out on the show in the middle of COVID and them trying to scramble and figure out what to do, so I stayed. I didn’t have anything else to do anyway, so I stayed a little bit longer. But I stayed too long for me to now miss it, I can promise you that.”

Blake announced in October 2022 that he would be leaving The Voice at the end of season 23. He released a statement to his millions of followers. “I’ve been wrestling with this for a while and I’ve decided that it’s time for me to step away from The Voice after next season,” his statement began.

He continued, “This show has changed my life in every way for the better and it will always feel like home to me. It’s been a hell of a ride over these 12 years of chair turns and I want to thank everyone at The Voice from NBC, every producer, the writers, musicians, crew and catering people, you are the best.” Blake acknowledged that he made “lifelong bonds” with now-wife Gwen, host Carson Daly, and his fellow coaches.

A few months later, Blake opened up about his decision to leave the show, and it all centered around family. “If I walked away from my career at this time, the only thing that I run the risk of is having regrets that I’m missing out on some more important things in life. For now, that’s our kids. This isn’t about me anymore and never will be again,” Blake told PEOPLE.

The country singer also admitted that he wanted to re-focus on his music career. “I’m enjoying watching what’s happening and putting a song out once in a while,” Blake said. “That’s another reason that I’m excited to get some time back away from The Voice and concentrate more on, ‘What kind of record do I want to make? Is it going to fit in? Do I care? Do I not care?’ I got a lot to figure out.”

Blake revealed in the interview that he had been thinking about quitting his Voice gig for a while. “I think I was close to calling it a day right when COVID hit,” he said on TODAY in February 2023. “And then, because of COVID, I didn’t want to walk away from the show and leave everybody in a bind. I mean, this show changed my life. I’ll stay here until the world kind of gets back to normal again.”
