The Voice: John Legend cries uncontrollably after being moved by performance as Knockouts stage concludes on NBC show

John Legend cried uncontrollably after being moved by a singer’s performance on Tuesday’s episode of The Voice on NBC.

The 44-year-old singer got emotional during the Knockouts stage performance of Lennon VanderDoes, 27, of Wilmington, Delaware.

He wiped away tears after giving Lennon a standing ovation for his cover of I Won’t Give Up by Jason Mraz.

‘Ever since I became a dad, I definitely cry a lot more than I used to,’ John said. ‘It’s hitting me more.’

‘I love you so much right now,’ said fellow coach Gwen Stefani, 54, who also was brought to tears by Lennon’s performance.

The coaches had just watched as Team Niall Horan contestants Alexa Wildish, 33, from Lyons, Colorado, sang Believe by Cher; and Julia Roome, 13, from Warwick, New Jersey, sang Unstoppable by Sia, followed by Lennon,

‘Lennon, I thought of you as the underdog,’ John said crying as his voice cracked. ‘I just felt you like being fully yourself and it felt so moving to me.’

Reba McEntire, 68, after crying earlier this season walked over and gave John a tissue. John told Alexa her song was perfect and that he was stunned by what Julia did, too.

‘I just can’t believe what just happened,’ Niall said. ‘It’s honestly my favorite moment on The Voice. These two crying says it all. And there’s no steals or saves left…’

During rehearsals, Alexa threw her heart into the song and brought her fellow contestants and mega mentor Wynonna Judd to tears.

‘Last night, I drove through Laurel Canyon and I went by Joni Mitchell’s house,’ Wynonna said. ‘She’s my hero. You remind me of a young Joni.’

During rehearsals, Julia was also passionate and determined to win.

‘I just want the coaches to see this strong and powerful woman at 13,’ Julia said. ‘ I am still the youngest in this competition. But I don’t get knocked down easily.’

More crying: Niall Horan also wiped tears away

‘I am amazed by Julia at 13 years old doing what she’s doing on this show,’ Wynonna said. ‘She is a force to be reckoned with.’

Wynonna encouraged her to really follow her heart during her performance.

‘Let me feel it, in here,’ Wynonna said. ‘I have one more thing to say: be on time, be kind, and listen more and talk less. I was not that girl, and I had people telling me those things.’

Lennon said the lyrics in his song reminded him of his marriage of nothing giving up on his singing career.

‘I love Lennon so much because his voice is high and so unique and I think he’s very special,’ Wynonna said.

Wynonna told him he was a blessing.

‘And open your eyes you are so adorable,’ Wynonna said. ‘I want to just come up and hug you.’

Gwen gushed after their performances about Alexa.

‘Alexa, nobody does what you just did anymore,’ Gwen said. ‘It was just so magical for me, I loved it so much.’

‘And Lennon, you made us both cry,’ Gwen said. ‘It was so moving because it was done intentionally with the lyrics. There’s no winner for me.’

Niall ultimately declared Alexa the winner of the round and she was stunned as she advanced to the playoffs.

Stunned reaction: Alexa was stunned to be named the winner

‘I choose Alexa as the winner because she is a one-in-a-million talent,’ Niall said.

‘That knockout performance from all three of them was insane,’ Niall said. ‘I’ve never felt emotion like it.’

The show kicked off with John setting up a three-way battle between Mac Royals, 30, from Wrightsville, Arkansas; Taylor Deneen, 23, from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Brandon Montel, 30, from Memphis.

Mac won the coaches over with his rendition of Robin Thicke’s Lost Without U. He said in a confessional that he watched his father go from a prisoner to a business owner opening a speakeasy lounge when he was released.

‘My dad always did an amazing job of creating opportunities for me to grow,’ Mac said.

Taylor sang Sweet Thing by Rufus and Chaka Khan.

‘A classic,’ John said. ‘Girl you can sing.’

John encouraged her to make her energy more sultry.

Brandon performed Nobody Gets Me by SZA.

‘Brandon you’ve taken on a challenge,’ John said in a rehearsal.

Wynonna encouraged him to tell him a story with his singing.

After they all sang, Niall and Gwen both said they would go with Mac. John agreed and picked Mac in the end.

Just as Taylor was saying her goodbyes, John pressed her button to save her. Taylor walked over and hugged John.

‘Taylor is a really special singer,’ John said. ‘Her voice is so sweet but when she goes for those big notes, it’s also really powerful.’

    John hugged her backstage.

‘We are going to the playoffs,’ John said.

Team Reba contestant Jordan Rainer, 33, from Atoka, Oklahoma, sang Hole In The Bottle by Kelsea Ballerini and beat out both Caitlin Quisenberry and Elizabeth Evans.

‘Love you hon,’ Jordan said to Reba when she picked her to move on.

At the end of the hour-long show, host Carson Daly, 50, announced a new twist this season was being introduced that would allow the coaches to each bring back one contestant. Who they each picked will be revealed on the next episode.

Saved her: Just as Taylor Deneen as saying her goodbyes, John pressed her button to save her

The Voice will return next week on NBC.

Season 23 of The Voice was won by Niall with his singer Gina Miles, 20.

This season is the first without country star Blake Shelton, 47, who had been a coach on The Voice since its premiere in April 2011.

Dan + Shay will be new coaches next season and will share a two-person chair for the first time on the NBC show.

Carson Daly admits The Voice uses new coaches as a ‘selling tool’ after multiple cast exits including Blake Shelton

THE Voice host and producer Carson Daly has revealed that the success of the show isn’t solely dependent on which celebrity coaches that season.

Throughout The Voice’s 25 cycles, Carson has witnessed the coming and going of several music stars as coaches, including Blake Shelton.

Since The Voice debuted on NBC in 2011, the singing competition has been a staple in pop culture.

Captivating America in the same way as its predecessor, American Idol, The Voice, has developed a dedicated fanbase that supports the series.

And not just because their favorite celebrity happens to be sitting in the coaching chair.

When the program first premiered, The Voice coaches were Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera, and CeeLo Green.

After season three, The Voice coaches began to rotate, and haven’t stopped since.

Blake, 47, one of the original Voice coaches, departed from the show for good after Season 23.

Carson explained to Yahoo Entertainment in a recent interview that The Voice’s strength doesn’t rely on who sits on the stage as a coach.

“We felt like we could survive that [revolving door], and we used it as a selling tool,” Carson said. “We’re losing Pharrell, but we’re getting Usher.’ We just made that work for us.”

He added: “When we launched, American Idol was so strong. The television singing competition marketplace was full.

“People thought we were crazy to put another singing show on. They thought we would only last maybe a year. It’s ironic that it’s lasted 25 seasons.”

    CHANGING IT UP

This season, which premiered on February 26, 2024, there have been slight change-ups.

Fans are used to tuning into The Voice on Monday and Tuesday nights.

However, fans won’t get a new episode of The Voice until Tuesday, April 2.

While The Voice does air on Monday, April 1, it will only be a recap leading into the show’s brief hiatus.

    The Voice winners

The Voice is an American television series broadcast on NBC.

    Season 8: Sawyer Fredericks
    Season 9: Jordan Smith
    Season 10: Alisan Porter
    Season 11: Sundance Head
    Season 12: Chris Blue
    Season 13: Chloe Kohanski
    Season 14: Brynn Cartelli
    Season 15: Chevel Shepherd
    Season 16: Maelyn Jarmon

    Season 21: Girl Named Tom
    Season 22: Bryce Leatherwood
    Season 23: Gina Miles
    Season 24: Michael Huntley

Regular programming is expected to return the following week.

It’s not uncommon for there to be a break when heading into the live shows.

The remaining contestants have been competing in the Battle Round before judges John Legend, Chance the Rapper, Reba McEntire, and Dan + Shay.

    ‘GONE DOWNHILL’

Several fans vented their frustrations with the schedule switch-up online.

One viewer started the discussion on a The Voice-dedicated forum where they claimed the show wasn’t as entertaining as it used to be.

“I think part of the reason the show has gone downhill recently is cause of NBC. They give us two seasons a year but one is always super short and makes for a bad season cuz they rush it to make space for AGT (which I personally think is falling off too),” they explained, referencing the network’s other popular competition series, America’s Got Talent.

“The year when we only got season 22 was so much better because the format gave the artists more opportunities to perform and there weren’t a ton of people going home each round,” the user said.

The fan also added that having multiple country artists on the judges’ panel—Reba and Dan + Shay—wasn’t helping with viewership either.

This is the first season The Voice introduced a doubles coach seat with Dan + Shay.

The series usually includes one coach from a different genre of music to mix it up.

Other devoted watchers shared their thoughts about the changes in the thread.

“We have had two seasons a year for most of the shows run (2012-2021). The only seasons where had one season in a year was Season 1 and Season 22.

“I think it’s just a new scheduling issue because we didn’t have shortened seasons like this in the past,” one person said about the schedule change.

“Idk about y’all but I feel like the show genuinely fell off long ago,” another commented.

“I just think some of these shows stay on longer than they need to be,” a third noted.

“I’ve always said that they should get rid of the instant save, the block & the playoff pass (and maybe replace the Knockouts with more live shows) since they make the show less about the performers,” a fourth suggested.

Reba McEntire has opened up about her son Shelby in a new interview, making a rare confession about family life.

The 69-year-old country singer vowed never to let her now 34-year-old son win at cards when he was growing up for fear he would become a “spoiled brat”. Reba, who shares Shelby with her ex-husband Narvel Blackstock, was keen to implement the same strict life lessons she learned during her own childhood home in Chockie, Oklahoma.

The Big Sky star told People: “When we would play games or cards, I’d never let Shelby win. He wouldn’t have learned anything that way. I always told Shelby, ‘I’ll always love you, but I want other people to like you. So don’t be a little jerk. Don’t be a spoiled brat.’”

It seems Reba’s words of wisdom for Shelby worked as the three-time Grammy Award-winner is often told her son is surprisingly humble.

“I’m very proud of him. He was a kid who had ADHD and could barely read in school, and now he’s read 10 books this year. He’s always trying to improve and do better. His daddy did a great job too,” she told the publication.

In an April appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, McEntire talked about how she and Linn met, and the story will warm your heart. “Well, Rex Linn, my boyfriend, he’s a handsome rascal…His best friend from sixth grade is Ed Gaylord, and I’ve known Ed for a long time, and so we’re all friends,” she explained to Hudson.

She continued, “And then in January of 2020, before COVID, I was doing Young Sheldon, Rex was doing Young Sheldon, so was Melissa Peterman, who played Barbra Jean on the Reba show. So Rex texted me, ‘You gonna be in town?’ I said, ‘Yeah.’ He wants to go to dinner.”

Their chemistry began to pick up from there. McEntire added, “…So we all went to dinner, had a good time, went down that street to a wine bar, and they said, ‘Well, I understand that you’ve already had dinner, but we do have some good appetizers.’ I said, ‘What do you have?’ They said, ‘Well, we have tater tots.’”

Upon hearing “tater tots,” McEntire got very excited, and Linn found her reaction so endearing, he gave her a nickname. “And so Rex said, ‘That’s your nickname from here on out: Tater Tot,’” McEntire revealed to Hudson.

And she reciprocated Linn’s affection by giving him a nickname as well. “We’re the tots, Sugar and Tater,” McEntire revealed. “So we’ve been together ever since. He’s a sweetheart.”

[VIDEO] Reba McEntire has caused quite the stir as she talks about a controversial take on Dolly Parton’s song “Jolene

Reba McEntire Boldly Reacts to Joy Behar’s Controversial Opinion of Dolly Parton Classic

When Reba McEntire was asked about a controversial take on Dolly Parton’s song “Jolene,” the country star’s reaction seemed pretty clear—even though she didn’t technically address the question.

The query came up amid an ongoing discussion within popular culture about Beyoncé’s new album, Cowboy Carter, on which the megastar covered Parton’s 1973 classic. Many celebrities have shared their thoughts on Beyoncé’s first country album since its release on March 29.

Joy Behar joined those who have weighed in on the new album this week. The View co-host shared her thoughts on the “Jolene” cover in particular during a Wednesday, April 3 episode of the daytime talk show’s Behind the Table podcast series.

While Behar, 81, said she enjoyed Beyoncé’s version, she offered a controversial opinion on Parton’s original.

Reba McEntire Is 'Pressing Dolly Parton's Buttons': Inside The Rivalry

“I like the subject, Beyoncé taking over the lyrics,” Behar said. “The original thing with Dolly Parton—I mean, it’s so, like, anti-feminist, worrying about some good-looking woman taking your man.” Even so, Behar went on to identify the “9 to 5” singer as a feminist, and even took credit for being the person who once convinced Parton to acknowledge her feminism.

Parton’s original lyrics featured one person “begging” a woman named Jolene, “Please don’t take my man.” Beyoncé updated the lyrics for her cover, transforming the plea into a warning.

“I’m warning you, don’t come for my man,” Beyoncé sang, later telling the Jolene character, “Don’t take the chance because you think you can.”

When a TMZ reporter approached McEntire on Thursday, April 4 to ask about Behar’s “Jolene” take, the “Can’t Even Get the Blues” singer laughed.

“Beautiful day, isn’t it?” McEntire, 69, said instead of answering the question. When pressed on whether she preferred one version of the song over the other, she answered simply: “Nope.”

Parton herself has appeared to be nothing but supportive of Beyoncé’s venture into country music. She released a statement about “Jolene” specifically last week to praise the singer for her lyrical revisions.

“Wow, I just heard Jolene,” Parton, 78, said on the day of Cowboy Carter’s release. “Beyoncé is giving that girl some trouble and she deserves it!”

He’s singing, ‘I’d spend 10,000 hours, and 10,000 more if that’s what it takes to learn that sweet heart of yours. I might never get there but I’m going to try if it’s 10,000 hours or the rest of my life, I’m going to love you.’ Love doesn’t count chromosomes, or as Rayce says, ‘Aren’t we all different?’”

After watching the sweet brother bonding moment, Dan + Shay wrote, “This is just the sweetest, most heartwarming video ever. Thanks to everyone who has tagged us in it, we’ve been watching on repeat and smiling every time.”

“Couldn’t find nicole powell’s instagram handle, but if anyone knows the family, please tag them in this post, or dm us their info. would love to meet them, or at the very least make a video for rayce + tripp.”

Shortly after sharing, Dan and Shay took to Instagram to make an amazing announcement to the Powell family with a video message.

“To the powell family: thank you for sharing such a sweet video of your sons rayce + tripp,” the post’s caption read. “It warmed our hearts to know that 10,000 Hours was the soundtrack to this wonderful moment. we want to invite your family to our show in little rock on september 17th, and we’d love the chance to meet you. it’s almost a year away, but just know that you’ll have tickets with your names on them waiting for you at the box office.

Dan and Shay added, “And thank you to our fans, and everyone who shared their beautiful video. we’re proud to be a small part of it.”

As fans of the band know, the song carries a deeper meaning for them. The Grammy winners wrote the love ballad for their wives Abby Law and Hannah Billingsley, who star in the music video. Also making an appearance is Justin’s leading lady Hailey Bieber.

In fact, “10,000 Hours” debuted shortly after the Biebers tied the knot (again) in a fairy-tale celebration in October. “They both looked so genuinely happy,” an insider told E! News at the time of their South Carolina nuptials. “They had smiles on their faces the entire night and didn’t really leave each other’s sides. They both made it a point to say hi to every guest and chat with everyone. It was a pretty intimate reception and they were happy they could catch up with their friends and family and really enjoy the night.”

Grammy winner has nothing but love for his little one—and we’re here for it

There’s no doubt about it, Chance the Rapper is having a life-changing year.

Not only did he win Best New Artist at the 2017 Grammy Awards, embarked on a world tour, spent countless hours and dollars to help out his community and get his first number one single, but he’s also found time to share some of his most memorable moments with his baby girl, Kensli.

The father-daughter duo is too cute for words on Instagram and the award-winning artist has made sure to let his fans in on their goings on.

Between spontaneous dance breaks and snuggle sessions, Chance is sure to spend his days off from his grueling schedule to be by his little one’s side.

In fact, just earlier today, the 24-year-old write, “I got the most beautiful girl in the world,” next to a video of the toddler trying on a new headband and sitting on her dad’s lap.

A few months ago, while Chance was away on tour, the “Mixtape” rapper posted the following heartfelt message about how much fatherhood has changed his perspective on just about everything:

“This is the girl who reintroduced me to God. She’s the woman who reminded me how to be a man, and taught me how to love.”

He added, “She is everything I am but much better. I can’t wait for her to one day help the world the way she has helped me.” Cue the happy-slash-ugly tears, right?

And whether it’s adorable day trips with her famous father, or selfies that make our hearts melt, Chance makes sure to document even the simplest of moments with his Kensli. But wait, there’s more!

Sure, the little things in life are what matter most, but Chance also is sure to bring his girl along for the wild ride of his career.

The two were seen sitting courtside at a Chicago Bulls basketball game just a few short weeks ago—not too shabby considering Kensli isn’t even two yet!

But don’t just listen to us, take a peep at the Instagrams above to see just a few of the reasons why Chance and Kensli are one of the cutest father-daughter duo on Instagram.
