The Government is under pressure to tackle the issue of migration amid a record number of asylum applications, surging small boat crossings and protests at hotels housing asylum seekers.

On Monday, Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood set out a package of reforms to asylum policies aimed at tackling illegal migration, telling MPs the current situation is “out of control and unfair”.

The latest videos shared by those linked to the Raise the Colours group have separately been referred to as “Operation Overlord”.

Earlier clips showed two men saying they were taking matters of illegal migration into their own hands and filming themselves stamping on and smashing a small boat’s engine.

In the clips, they refer to themselves as “patriots” and make a number of claims without evidence, such as that they are stopping “rapists and murderers” from “coming to a town near you”.

The flag-raising group, who have a combined 100,000 followers on X and Instagram, also posted a plea on X for donations last week, writing that they are: “STOPPING The Boats, whether the migrants or government like it or not!”

Two videos from the group have recently been shared to the 1.7 million X followers of Tommy Robinson. The far-right figure and former leader of the English Defence League, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, has previously been accused of mobilising football hooligan firms in an attempt to launch anti-Muslim rallies across the country.

Separately, French media reports that the Dunkirk Public Prosecutor’s office has opened a preliminary investigation into “aggravated violence” against migrants by suspected British far-right figures.

One of the details being examined by the French prosecutor is the claim that in September, four men waving British and UK flags verbally and physically attacked migrants on the French coast. It is alleged that they told the migrants they were not welcome in England and proceeded to steal some of their belongings.

The men are not the first anti-migrant figures to travel to France in a bid to take matters into their own hands.

In September, Ukip, Nigel Farage’s former political party, posted a video to their X account showing what appeared to be sleeping migrants in France being woken by people flashing strobe lights in their faces and shouting at them.

Departing Good Morning Britain star Andrew Pierce has said “onwards and upwards” as he hailed the “end of an era” after quitting the ITV breakfast show. Pierce explained that from January he won’t be part of GMB any more due to the programme being extended in the new year, as Lorraine is sliced to half an hour.

Lorraine will air from 9:30am-10am instead of 9am-10am, meaning GMB will last for another 30 minutes each weekday morning. Due to commitments with his other show at GB News, Pierce won’t be able to appear any longer, and confirmed he will be leaving the studio behind for greener pastures.

The stars of Coronation Street and Emmerdale were out in force as they hit the red carpet for the premiere of the upcoming historic crossover, Correidale.

It was announced earlier this year that ITV’s flagship soaps will join forces for a standalone episode that producers, scriptwriters and production teams have ingeniously conceived to link Weatherfield and the Dales forever.

On Tuesday (December 16), the casts of both soaps were brought together to celebrate the huge milestone with a special screening at The National Science and Media Museum in Bradford, the UK City of Culture 2025.

The special episode is a celebration of the soap genre and will launch the network’s new ‘soap power hour’ scheduling pattern for Coronation Street and Emmerdale, with both soaps airing every week night for half an hour each from 8pm.

But in a change to how things usually run, the hour-long Corriedale episode will not be dropped earlier in the day on ITVX, instead only airing at Monday, January 5, at 8pm. Half hour episodes of each soap will be shown earlier, Emmerdale 7pm and Coronation Street 7.30pm, these two episodes will drop on ITVX at 7am that morning.

But back to Corriedale and one night changes everything as a multi-vehicle pile-up will be at the centre of the drama, having major repercussions and linking the soaps together forever.

Kelvin Fletcher previously clapped back following claims he copied Jeremy Clarkson’s series on Amazon Prime about his farm.

Actor Kelvin and wife Liz bought a 120-acre farm in the Peak District back in 2020 – despite having no farming experience. The pair – who are parents to four children – have since been documenting their new farming life for several programmes.

One of these included the 2022 show, Kelvin’s Big Farming Adventure, on the BBC. However, Kelvin faced backlash as viewers accused him of “ripping off” Jeremy Clarkson’s show on Amazon Prime about his Diddly Squat Farm.

But Kelvin – who is on screen today (December 14) with wife Liz for Fletchers’ Country Workshop – was quick to fire back at the criticism and insisted his show is not the same and noted that it is “completely different”.

Back in 2022, Kelvin’s Big Farming Adventure aired on BBC. However, some disgruntled viewers at the time claimed that the programme was similar to Jeremy Clarkson’s Amazon Prime show.

“On BBC1 right now is a @PrimeVideo Jeremy Clarkson the Farm rip off with Kelvin Fletcher,” said one person on X. Another added: “Great work from the BBC ripping off Clarkson’s Farm.”

Following the backlash, Emmerdale star Kelvin defended his show and insisted that it is “different” to Jeremy’s programme.

“It’s a bit unfair, I think. There’s a whole host of that type of show – I can think of half a dozen straight away,” he said on the Netmums podcast Sweat, Snot & Tears.

‘It’s a completely different show’

He continued: “So to be compared exclusively to Clarkson I think is a little random. As people can see, it’s a completely different show.”

Talking about their filming schedule, Kelvin explained: “We were already three months into production when Clarkson’s came out.

“So to suggest that we’ve, and we did get a lot of suggestions, that we just ripped it off or copycatted it – don’t forget there’s probably a three-to-four month development process.

“There’s a pitching process, a commission process, we were three months down the line into filming, then Clarkson came in the summer.”

Kelvin then revealed that he and Liz were fans of Jeremy’s show and said: “We love the show, we binged watched it.”

He concluded: “I’m not copying anyone, I’ve got no need to. I’m confident in who we are, as a family, what we represent. It’s just us.

“All we are doing is being ourselves. Watch our show and make your own conclusions. If you love it great, if not watch something else.”
