Strictly Come Dancing’s Amy Dowden has been supported by fans as she took to social media to share a relationship update. The 34-year old Welsh dancer returned to the hit dancing show last year, following a breast cancer diagnosis in May 2023 which forced her to step away from the competition.

Amy was thrilled to return to Strictly and was partnered with JLS singer JB Gill. However, she was forced to withdraw from the show in week six after suffering a leg injury. She was replaced in the race for the glitterball by Lauren Oakley, and the pair went on to make it to the final.

Away from the dancefloor, Amy is married to fellow dancer Ben Jones and the couple are currently celebrating their three-year wedding anniversary.

Taking to social media, Amy shared a few flashback snaps to their wedding day as she wrote: “Happy 3rd anniversary to my love! Love you always and forever! Your Amy.”

Several Strictly stars took to the comments section on Instagram to congratulate the gorgeous couple on their milestone celebration. Professional dancer Katya Jones said: “Happy Anniversary you two!! X”

Judge Motsi Mabuse added love heart emojis while dancer Carlos Gu wrote: “To my favourite couple!!! Happy anniversary and there more to come! Love you two.”

The dancer refused to be beaten by her cancer diagnosis and told the ECHO in an exclusive interview how she is now feeling better than ever.

Amy recently went on tour with her co-star Carlos Gu in a show called ‘Reborn.’ Amy told the ECHO: “She said: “I’m feeling like Amy again. I don’t think it was until December when I was like ‘this is what it felt like’. I’ve got my energy back. I’ve got my strength back.”

Amy has been candid throughout her health battle as she regularly shared brave updates on social media of each step of the way after her diagnosis. The dancer admitted it was “scary” to be so public about a private issue, but knew she had to face up to her fears to raise awareness on such an important cause that affects so many.

She said: “‘I’d opened up about my Crohn’s disease and I’d saw the impact that made. When I was diagnosed [with cancer], I knew it was going to come out to the public so I wanted to turn such a negative into a positive and hopefully get people checking themselves.

“Early detection saves lives. I never thought, at 32, I’d be diagnosed with breast cancer. If you’re not checking yourself, then who is because you don’t get mammograms until you’re in your 50s.

“I wanted to raise awareness and get as many people as I possibly could checking themselves to save lives. But also make sure people who can get their mammograms are not missing their routine appointments.

“It was very scary and I did have doubts, but, ultimately, you’ve got to think of the bigger picture and I wanted to use the platform I’ve been so lucky to have been given to hopefully help others and save lives.”

Amy has more than succeeded in her mission and she was deservedly awarded an MBE for her work in fundraising and raising awareness on Crohn’s disease and cancer.

Amy is hoping to be on the next season of Strictly Come Dancing when the line-up is announced later this year.

The performer and Loose Women presenter will appear at the festival on May 31 next year. The appearance at Brockwell Park will mark her debut festival performance.

Revealing the announcement, Mighty Hoopla described it as “a long time coming”, posting on Instagram: “We’ve seen your requests. It’s been years of trying… and we finally got her.”

Organisers hinted that  TV personality Jane would be “bringing a big band, big vocals and big surprises to Mighty Hoopla 2026”, promising “a show for the ages”.

Mary has been married to Paul Hunnings since 1966. The couple had three children: Thomas, Annabel and William – the latter of whom sadly died in 1989 in a car accident when he was a teen.

However, in October, Mary revealed that Paul had an accident at home and broke several ribs. She told Saga magazine: “He’s just had a tumble with broken ribs. I’m very sympathetic about that.

“But he’s getting better day by day. Soon we’ll have him back to his own old self.”

Mary went on: “I love my husband far more now than I’ve ever done before. Now, in his dotage, he’s not so well. It’s a sheer pleasure looking after him, because he’s so grateful.”

A month on from his fall, and Mary has now issued a health update on husband Paul.

Mary on ‘terribly frail’ husband

In a recent interview, Mary reflected on her age and revealed she feels “so lucky” to be in good health. However, she then noted that husband Paul isn’t as lucky as she is health-wise.

“He’s terribly frail, but very cherished and well looked after,” she told Yours Magazine.

Mary went on: “Just as I was leaving, I gave him a little plate of smoked salmon, a wedge of lemon, and I cut the crusts off the bread. And though he doesn’t have a drink with it, I’ll do the drinking when I get in.”

Paul asked Mary to marry him three times

Mary has often spoken about her romance with Paul over the years. In 2017, she revealed that Paul had proposed three times before she accepted his hand in marriage.

During a 2017 episode of her BBC show Mary Berry Everyday, the couple appeared together. They chatted about their 50 years of marriage together.

“I do remember the first proposal and I think you were drunk,” Mary told her husband.

“Well I might have been. It’s a big step. You don’t go into something like that without a bit of fortification,” he replied.

Mary added: “I think you had too much and I can remember telling you you were drunk and thinking, I’m not going to have anything to do with this man. But you came back.”

Eventually, Mary decided to say yes to Paul after he told her: “I’m getting on in age. So either it’s yes or no.”

Daily Express columnist Carole Malone took to her social media account to share her thoughts on the alleged situation as she made a strong demand.

Posting to X/Twitter, the TV host reshared a post which read: “NEW: GMB host Adil Ray was hauled in by bosses yesterday to face crisis talks after posting in support of Sharia Law”. She then added her own thoughts as she wrote: “Never mind crisis talks – he should be sacked. Sharia Law is an abomination that discriminates against and harms women.” It follows reports that Good Morning Britain executives were cross and bosses were “sent into a tailspin” after seeing comments from him shared on social media, so they called him in. Just days before, Adil had posted his support for New York’s newly elected mayor, Zohran Mamdani. In the post where he shared his support, he appeared to back Sharia law for the city.

The presenter had shared on X on November 5: “Some say Mamdani may implement Sharia Law. He might. The heart of Sharia law is social justice, welfare, fairness, charity and cohesion.

“Most Muslim countries operate a hybrid of Sharia and civil law, and are slowly reforming and abandoning unethical practices despite the West’s portrayal.”

In a follow-up post shared on November 7, Adil explained: “To clarify, I am not actually suggesting Mamdani would implement Sharia law.

“But many of the issues he campaigned for are also some of the positive values of Sharia that Muslims try to live by. Something many of us would agree on.”

The comments come as ITV are reportedly in high profile talks with Sky – meaning that it couldn’t be worse timing for the broadcasters.

In a bid to raise awareness, the campaign has formed a choir, climbed the o2, and Lorraine even took part in a semi-nude photoshoot earlier this year.

Lorraine went on to say she can understand Davina’s reaction of “anger” after her diagnosis, one year after she underwent surgery for a brain tumour.

“It shows it can happen to anyone,” Lorraine said. “We’re sending her all of our love, to Davina and anybody going through the same thing, it’s scary.”

Sharing the news this weekend, Davina revealed her cancer was detected “very early” and she underwent surgery in October.

She said in an Instagram video: “Hello. I am talking about this because I think it may help someone, and this is what I always do.

“I just wanted to tell you that I have had breast cancer. I found a lump a few weeks ago and it came and went, but then I was working on The Masked Singer and Lorraine Kelly’s TV show had put signs on the back of all the doors saying to “check your breasts” and every time I went for a wee, I did that.

“And it was still there. One morning I saw it in the mirror and thought I needed to get it looked at, so I had a biopsy and found out that it was indeed breast cancer.”

She continued: “The margins were very small so I got it very, very early, which is incredibly lucky. But I am so relieved to have had it removed and to know that it hasn’t spread. My lymph nodes were clear and I didn’t have any removed. All I am going to do now is have five days of radiotherapy in January, as kind of an insurance policy, and then I am on my journey to try and stop it ever coming back.”

Davina, who underwent emergency surgery last year to remove a brain tumour, thanked the nurses and doctors who looked after her, as well as her family and partner Michael, before urging others to check themselves.

She said: “It’s been a lot. I was very angry when I found out, but I let go of that and feel in a much more positive place now. I think my message is, get checked if you’re worried. Check yourself regularly. If you are due a mammogram, then get it done.”

Following Davina’s video, Lorraine shared a message of support on social media, writing: “I’m so glad Davina saw our Change+Check sticker and the cancer was caught early.

“That’s the whole point of the campaign, to raise awareness and save lives.

“I’m sending Davina all my love. She’s been through such a lot, and she’s such a terrific woman.”

Lorraine’s Change+Check campaign aims to raise awareness of the signs of breast cancer, giving viewers information on what symptoms to be aware of.

“BRITAIN BETRAYED US!” — 99-Year-Old WW2 Hero Breaks Down in Tears Live On Air: “This Isn’t the Country I Fought For…”

Good Morning Britain presenters Adil Ray and Kate Garraway were left mortified live on air when a 100-year-old veteran declared winning World War II ‘wasn’t worth it’ due to the present state of the UK. Proudly wearing his medals Alec Penstone appeared on the show in advance of Remembrance Sunday on November 9 and told how he quit his factory job to sign up for the Royal Navy and fight for his country as soon as he was old enough. He emotionally recalled how many of his friends had lost their lives and described himself as “just a lucky one” for making it through.

However the moving segment took a turn when Kate asked him what Remembrance Sunday means to him. He said he felt that winning the war was “not worth” how the country had turned out today. “My message is, I can see in my mind’s eye those rows and rows of white stones and all the hundreds of my friends who gave their lives, for what? The country of today?” he said sadly.

“No, I’m sorry – but the sacrifice wasn’t worth the result of what it is now. What we fought for was our freedom, but now it’s a darn sight worse than when I fought for it.”

A visibly stunned Kate interjected with her apologies as she said: “Alec, I’m sorry you feel like that and I want you to know that all the generations that have come since, including me and my children, are so grateful for your bravery and all the other service personnel.

“It’s our job now to make it the country that you fought for, and we will do,” she promised him.

In response he said: “It’s so wonderful to know there are people like you who spread the word around to the younger generations.”

Viewers overwhelmingly agreed with his sentiment and flocked to X to comment on a clip of the chat posted by the show. “Well done Alec for saying how it is but as usual they try and cut him off with ‘oh sorry about that’ and talk over him and talk to him like a child,” one penned.

“Truly sad to see this wonderful brave man questioning what he and he fallen comrades fought for, he has been betrayed by spineless politicians of all colours. Thank you sir for what you and your comrades did for us but sadly I think you are correct,” another added.

A third observed: “That’s a heartbreaking indictment on the country you gave service to. And no more damming critique.”

Meanwhile a fourth chimed in: “He is absolutely correct. We have never lived through what he has and for those words to come from this hero’s heart is a damming testament to what our country has become. God bless him.”
