FAMILY WAR ESCALATES Brooklyn Beckham issued a jaw-dropping warning to David and Victoria — telling them to contact him only through lawyers at the height of their bitter feud

Relations between the Beckhams broke down so completely last summer that at one point, eldest son Brooklyn asked his parents to contact him only via his lawyers.

It can be revealed there was an exchange of legal letters between son and parents — or rather, between their respective legal teams at Schillings and Harbottle & Lewis.

Brooklyn said he didn’t want his parents to contact him, or make public statements about him on social media.

There was no legal action between them – and no legal basis for the letter, which was simply a request.

But it followed what Brooklyn considered to be a series of ‘nasty’ briefings about his wife Nicola Peltz Beckham, including the suggestion that he was a ‘hostage’ being ‘controlled’ by his missus.

This week, publicists and friends on both sides refused to discuss the matter, still hoping that things will calm down and be resolved.

It can be revealed there was an exchange of legal letters between son and parents — or rather, between their respective legal teams at Schillings and Harbottle & Lewis

However one source said: ‘David was told to speak to them via Schillings. That was the only way for them to communicate.’

The ‘talk to my lawyers’ move might explain why Brooklyn opted to block his parents – and brothers Romeo and Cruz – on social media just before Christmas.

The family had been viewing and liking his cooking posts. And it was felt this was contrary to Brooklyn’s wish they would leave him and his wife alone.

The situation continues to pain them all. I’m told that Gordon Ramsay has been trying to cheer Victoria Beckham up, by telling her: ‘You’ve got one feud… But I’ve got the whole Top Trumps deck!’

Ramsay fell out with his alcoholic father (who abandoned him); his drug addict brother; and his wife’s father Chris (after discovering that he was taking loans from his company and had hacked his email).

Then his new son-in-law Adam Peaty fell out with his parents in the run-up to his wedding to Gordon’s daughter Holly.

But back to the Beckhams. A source told me before Christmas that the young couple found Instagram posts by Brooklyn’s parents upsetting and would wake up worrying what might have been posted about them overnight.

I was told: ‘It would be really in the holiday spirit if the Beckhams could just leave them alone for now.

    EXCLUSIVE
This is the REAL reason why Brooklyn Beckham blocked his parents on Instagram: ALISON BOSHOFF

‘Whether someone follows someone else on Insta shouldn’t be a story.

‘Nicola and Brooklyn haven’t been commenting. They just want peace.’

At the heart of the issue are the briefings over the summer which Nicola and Brooklyn believe were ordered by the Beckhams.

Brooklyn, 26, married actress Nicola, 30, in April 2022. News of the family falling out was broken in this column two months later.

Nicola was offended when Victoria promised to design her wedding dress, but failed to come up with the goods.

Then, on the wedding day, pop star Marc Anthony, a friend of the Beckhams, described Victoria as the most beautiful woman in the room.

Both sides attempted to build bridges, but the young couple didn’t attend David’s 50th birthday parties last summer.

One source said: ‘David was told to speak to them via Schillings. That was the only way for them to communicate’. Brooklyn blocked his family on social media last month

And in November, Brooklyn did not congratulate his father when he was knighted.

What now for the family? The feeling of Team Brooklyn is that a proper apology is needed, in order to reboot relations.

The senior Beckhams, still smarting from leaks about the wedding and what they believe were attacks on Victoria over a sustained period, would like both sides to draw a line and move on.

They would, I’m told, do anything to make up with their son, and just want to be in touch with him again. Hence the social media posts.

HEARTBREAKING CONFESSION George Best’s son Calum Best has shared a devastating family update — revealing his mum Angie has been diagnosed with cancer

George Best’s son revealed his mother Angie’s cancer diagnosis in an emotional video clip.

TV personality Calum, 44, shared the devastating health update on social media on Thursday.

He said his 73-year-old mother was diagnosed with colon cancer just a few weeks ago, and it has now spread to her liver.

In the heartbreaking video, Calum said: ‘Hi everyone, I’ve been thinking long and hard over the past few weeks about how to write this.

‘I wanted to get the words right, but when it comes to health, and when it comes to my mum, the only thing that really matters is honesty.

‘A few weeks ago, my beautiful, wonderful mum was diagnosed with cancer.

‘For as long as I can remember, she has lived her life rooted in health, fitness and wellbeing.

‘She has always believed in taking care of the body, mind and soul. But as we all know, cancer doesn’t discriminate.

‘It doesn’t care where you’re from, how you live, or how healthy you try to be. And now, it’s here – and it’s with my mum.’

Calum said he has set up a GoFundMe page for financial support.

The devastated star continued: ‘I’ll be honest, I haven’t cried in years but this has been an emotional rollercoaster I never expected to be on.

‘We’ve reached a point where we felt it was important to share what we’re going through and, humbly, ask for help.

‘My mum has been diagnosed with colon cancer that has spread to her liver.

‘To move forward, we need access to specialist care and professionals who can offer the right treatment.

‘This is incredibly hard for me to say, but financially, I can’t carry this on my own.

‘So we’ve created this GoFundMe page to ask for your support.

‘Any contribution, no matter how small, will help us access the specialists, treatment and care my mum needs during this time.

‘We’ll also be sharing updates along the way, and my mum will be posting videos too, when she feels able.

‘From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading, for caring, for sharing and for supporting us in any way you can. Calum.’

Calum also shared a message from Angie, who said she is ‘ready to fight’ this disease.

She added: ‘Consultations and research all takes dosh which I don’t have BUT I truly believe that this info will be invaluable as research suggests 1 in 2 of us will get some form of cancer. Yikes. Wish me luck, Onwards and upwards Homies.’

Calum’s fans have flooded his social media with supportive messages.

They moved to London in 1976.

When she returned to Los Angeles, George followed her and persuaded her to marry him.

They wed on 24 January 1976 and went on to have son Calum in 1981.

The couple separated the following year and divorced in 1986, following George’s problems with alcohol abuse and domestic violence.

The Princess of Wales has marked her 44th birthday today with a ‘deeply personal’ video about the comfort she has taken from nature during her cancer treatment, saying how ‘deeply grateful’ she is ‘to discover what it means to be alive.’

Kensington Palace released the final instalment of their year-long ‘Mother Nature’ video series – Winter – which has a voice-over from Catherine and features footage of her on an early morning walk in Berkshire, close to her Windsor home.

An aide described today’s release as ‘the culmination of a deeply personal creative project for The Princess, spotlighting humanity’s longstanding connection to nature, as well as nature’s capacity to inspire us and help us to heal and grow in mind, body and spirit.’

In the voiceover for the Winter episode, Her Royal Highness reflects personally on her own journey and healing over the past two years, talking of her ‘fears’ and ‘tears’, as well as her healing and how she is ‘deeply grateful’.

She says: ‘Even in the coldest, darkest season, winter has a way of bringing us stillness, patience and quiet consideration.

‘Where the stream slows just enough for us to see our own reflection.

‘To discover the deepest parts of ourselves. Alongside the whispers in the pulse of every living thing.

‘I find myself reflecting on how deeply grateful I am.

‘For the rivers within us flow with ease, fears washed away, cleanse and purify. Come to peace with our tears and discover what it means to be alive.

‘To be at one with nature; a quiet teacher and a soft voice that guides. In memory. Helping us to heal.’

There was also a personally-penned caption saying: ‘The Mother Nature series has been a deeply personal, creative reflection on how nature has helped me heal. But it is also a story about the power of nature and creativity in collective healing.

‘There is so much we can learn from mother nature, as we look to build a happier, healthier world. C.’

The princess underwent major abdominal surgery in January 2024 after which doctors found evidence of cancer and she underwent a course of gruelling preventative chemotherapy.

She announced the news personally in a video message that March.

In September the same year she also revealed the news that she had completed treatment but warned that her recovery and return to royal duties would be slow but steady.

In January last year she gave the good news that she was finally in remission but again asked for public understanding about her return to public life.

Kensington Palace said her ‘Mother Nature’ series, which has seen a new video realised on social media each quarter to mark the passing of the seasons, has been a ‘reflection of the beauty and complexity of the human experience. It is a tribute to the lessons we can learn from nature, helping us to foster our own growth, strengthen our bonds with the world around us and each other.’

The Spring episode was the first launched at the start of last year’s Mental Health Awareness Week.

The philosophy of this film, as with the rest of the series, they said, is rooted in the need to reconnect humanity, something Catherine explored in a recent essay on the importance of family life and childhood with Professor Waldinger.

They added: ‘As we confront the challenges of an increasingly complex and digital world, the importance of interconnectedness – the connection we have with ourselves, each other and nature – takes on even more significance.’

It is understood that moving forward, The Princess is ‘excited to explore’ what more can be done to harness the power of nature and creativity for human connection, healing and wellbeing for individuals, families, communities and society.

‘We look forward to sharing more on this soon,’ an aide said.

‘These themes will continue to be at the heart of The Princess’ work moving forwards.’

The new film was made and produced by Will Warr. As well as the princess’ walk in Berkshire, elements were captured in Cumbria, Gloucestershire, London, East Sussex and The Cotswolds.

SHOCK CONFESSION: Katie Price has stunned fans with a chilling admission after her dramatic weight loss, branding herself a “stick woman” — as her own family desperately beg her to get medical help.

Katie Price has revealed her family are urging her to seek medical help after growing concerns about her dramatic weight loss.

The former glamour model, 47, who has previously denied using weight loss medication, has sparked concern in recent months with her worryingly thin frame.

Back in September, the TV personality revealed that she had undergone some tests over her weight loss.

Giving an update on her podcast The Katie Price Show, Katie called herself a ‘stick woman’ and said doctors were concerned about her low blood pressure.

Katie added she was feeling the pressure from her mother Amy to go to the doctors as she told her sister Sophie: ‘All I’ve had, since everywhere has been closed, is, “Have you phoned the doctors yet? Have you phoned?”

‘I’m like, “Yes, mum. I went to the doctors today.” I screenshotted the appointment.’

Katie Price has revealed her family are urging her to seek medical help after growing concerns about her dramatic weight loss

Sophie asked: ‘Did you actually though? Because mum has been speaking to me about this.’

Katie replied: ‘Yes. I’m going in there to talk about blood tests, MRI, everything she wants me to have to get to the bottom of why the price is – forget stick man – stick woman.’

The mother-of-five added she had to have her blood pressure done three times because doctors thought it was so low that there must have been an error.

In October, Katie confessed she had been hospitalised for her weight loss – which she initially conceded was her aim – however later insisted was baffling doctors and left needing tests to assess the situation.

Katie told fans on her Snapchat Story she ‘doesn’t know why’ her frame is shrinking so much as she undergoes tests.

She began: ‘I’ve been up early at the doctors so she could do some bloods and because my veins are so s*** they had three attempts.

‘They could only fill two tubes up, so I’ve got to go back in two weeks. And I’ve got to have my stitches out then because they looked at my little stab wound that I did…’

Katie added: ‘The reason I’m going to the doctors is because I keep losing weight and I don’t know why. So that’s that.’

The former glamour model, 47, who has previously denied using weight loss medication, has sparked concern in recent months, displaying a very thin frame

Katie added she was feeling the pressure from her mother Amy (pictured) to go to the doctors

In November, Katie started hormone replacement therapy to treat menopause symptoms – in a pill and gel format.

Speaking for the first time in detail about the effects of her being on HRT, she discussed how she feels ‘worse’ but is ‘persevering’.

She explained: ‘It’s my sixth day today. I’ve been feeling sick, I’m bloated and I’m very tired.

‘I’m not sure if it’s the HRT. I’m on two tablets and then I put the gel on my thigh. I didn’t want a patch because I thought it might come off.’

‘I’m still getting the night sweats, if not worse, but I am persevering. I have one more week of the tablets then it’s just the gel.’

Q&A: What is HRT? by Thea Jourdan

WHAT IS HRT AND WHAT DOES IT DO?

HRT does the work of oestrogen, levels of which plummet after the menopause. Women usually take a combination of synthetic oestrogen and a second hormone, progesterone.

‘Most women in the UK take combined HRT because taking oestrogen on its own can increase the risk of developing cancer of the womb,’ says Kathy Abernethy, chair of the British Menopause Society. ‘Oestrogen-only HRT is usually only given to women who have had their wombs removed.’

ARE THERE ANY RISKS TO CONSIDER?

A major US study in 2002, from the Women’s Health Initiative USA, was the first to ring alarm bells that HRT may lead to a raised risk of heart disease and breast cancer. As a result, many doctors stopped prescribing it overnight.

But the study was found to be flawed — the average age of the women in the study was 63, when the risk of breast cancer naturally rises anyway, and half were smokers.

‘The risks were overestimated for women of normal menopausal age between 50 and 60,’ says Kathy. ‘For most women under the age of 60, and for many over age 60, the benefits of HRT are clear.’

SO DOES HRT REALLY CAUSE CANCER?

Any risk comes with longer use, says Kathy.

Cancer Research UK says there is strong evidence HRT can cause breast, womb and ovarian cancer, but the chance is low compared to other risk factors. To put it in perspective, while minimising HRT could prevent 1,400 cancer deaths per year, keeping to a healthy weight could prevent 13,200 and stopping smoking could prevent 22,000.

    ARE THERE OTHER SIDE-EFFECTS?

‘Women who take HRT may have side-effects including breast tenderness, headaches, nausea, indigestion, tummy pain and vaginal bleeding,’ says Professor Kamila Hawthorne, Royal College of GPs’ professional development vice-chair. Taking HRT as tablets (not patches or gels) may slightly raise the risk of blood clots.

WHO SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN HRT?

Those who have a personal or family history of hormone-sensitive cancers, such as ovarian and breast, and women who have had deep vein thrombosis. High blood pressure should be controlled before starting HRT.

    WHAT ARE THE ALTERNATIVES?

Non-hormonal options include Tibolone (Livial), derived from the Mexican yam, which mimics oestrogen. Blood pressure medication Clonidine, which affects the dilation of blood vessels, can alleviate hot flushes and night sweats.

Bio-identical hormones, derived from plant oestrogens and prescribed by private clinics, are said to be similar to human sex hormones. But the NHS does not recommend these as they are not regulated.

TV ROW EXPLODES Laura Woods has gone SCORCHED EARTH, branding disgraced ex-Sky Sports anchor Richard Keys a “tt”** after his so-called tribute to late football legend Terry Yorath sparked outrage

Laura Woods has led the outrage aimed at former Sky Sports presenter Richard Keys after his apparent tribute to Terry Yorath.

Leeds and Wales legend Yorath’s death was announced on Thursday after a short illness, with daughter Gabby Logan rushing to his side on Wednesday night as she left Match Of The Day mid-broadcast.

Keys and Logan have been butting heads for a number of years, with the latter, who currently works for the likes of BBC Sport and Prime Video, making a series of accusations against the former Sky Sports host in 2022.

68-year-old Keys – who now works alongside his broadcast partner Andy Gray on beIN Sports in the Middle East – vowed to take legal action against Logan after her claims in her memoirs.

Now he has taken his latest dig in an apparent tribute to Yorath. He wrote on X: ‘Sad to hear the news of Terry Yorath’s passing. He was a warrior & won fans over wherever he played. He was great for us at Coventry & the reason I got Gabby a job at Sky. I had no idea who she was when we met but I knew her dad. RIP Terry. Your daughter did you proud.’

Woods, meanwhile, who works for TNT Sports, was one of the first to hit back, posting: ‘Sorry… but what a t**t. Said with zero surprise.’ She later added: ‘Also want to add my respects to the thousands of others who are showing theirs compassionately to a much beloved broadcaster and her family. Sending all my love x.’

Laura Woods has called out Richard Keys over his tribute to Terry Yorath following his passing

Keys (pictured right with Andy Gray and John Terry) appeared to reference his years-long feud with Yorath’s daughter, Gabby Logan, in his social media post

Logan rushed from Match Of The Day duties to be by her father’s side on Wednesday evening

Meanwhile Dan Walker, who worked alongside Logan at the BBC, replied: ‘Richard, just imagine what it would be like for Gabby, or a member of her family, to read this.

‘I’m hoping you have just worded this badly and it isn’t a dig at a really difficult time. There is still time to change it.’

Keys would later respond, posting: ‘What a shame my words for a footballing hero of mine were entirely misinterpreted. Terry Yorath was a fabulous guy. A warrior. My affection for him meant I was more than happy to help him & his family in any way I could. Gabby’s career would make any father proud. RIP Terry.’

Among Logan’s allegations in 2022 were that Keys and Gray joked about refusing to have sex with pregnant women while Logan was carrying twins.

Keys took a huge swipe at Logan and said she ‘always had an awful lot to say’ – revealing she was known as ‘The Gabbler’ when he worked with her in broadcasting.

He called many of her claims ‘nonsense’ and ‘very sad’ as he disputed the allegations, including that he was sacked from Sky Sports over misogyny towards lineswoman Sian Massey in 2011.

In detailed extracts from her memoir, Logan recounted a conversation between Keys and Gray on a flight to Istanbul ahead of the 2005 Champions League final.

Logan wrote: ‘I was seven months pregnant with twins, and I was huge. I looked like I’d swallowed a space hopper.

Keys said he ‘got Gabby a job at Sky’ because of her father in his controversial message

Woods branded Keys a t**t and said she was not surprised about the apparent nature of his message

Former BBC Sport man Dan Walker also jumped to the defence of Logan in the post’s replies

‘In full earshot of me – and anyone who might be listening in our business-class cabin – Richard said: “So, Andy, what do you think of pregnant women?”

‘”I’m afraid I don’t find them very attractive, Richard. In fact, I never slept with my wife when she was pregnant with our kids.”

‘”So you didn’t have sex, Andy?” Keys asked.

‘”No, I didn’t say that, Richard.”

‘Then they laughed their heads off at their little “comedy” routine.

‘I was embarrassed, of course, and thought their comments were especially cruel, bearing in mind they both had children and wives of their own.’

Logan added: ‘Keys and Gray were dinosaurs, waiting to become extinct.’

Responding to her claims initially, Keys said he would refer the matter to his lawyers.

Keys left Sky Sports in 2011 over allegations that he was misogynistic towards lineswoman Sian Massey

In response, Keys posted: ‘With reference to an article published by The Mail on Sunday written by Ms Gabby Logan. Ms Logan has made a number of wildly inaccurate allegations in the process of defaming my reputation.

‘I have referred the matter to lawyers with a view to proceeding with libel action.’

Elsewhere in the book extract, Logan alleged: ‘I don’t really want to write a lot about Richard Keys; he was dismissed, along with Gray, when they were caught talking lewdly about the lineswoman Sian Massey, and after he was caught asking pundits in the studio if they would “smash it”, referring to another woman.

‘In one painful-to-listen-to monologue aimed at saving his UK career, he tried to argue that he couldn’t be sexist, because he’d helped get me a job and kick-started my career. He truly didn’t get it.’

Keys told the Telegraph in 2022: ‘I did more for her (Logan), in the early part of her career, than anybody,’ Keys added. ‘Andy and I were easy targets.

‘It’s easy to have a go at us. I don’t intend to see her in court, but I think there are things that can be settled away from that.’

Last year, Keys warned Kelly Cates of taking on the role as joint host of Match Of The Day, which she is now carrying out alongside Mark Chapman and Logan.

Writing in his blog, he posted: ‘Congrats to Kelly Cates on her new job. I’m proud of her but not surprised. Success has many fathers and I’m sure there’ll be a few people lining up to take credit for her career, but Kelly, Kenny and me know the truth.

‘Kenny and I once fell out about her getting a job at Sky. “It meant she didn’t finish Uni” he said to me. “No” I replied. “But you asked me to get her a job”. Her dad is a man of many contradictions – but that one was a belter. I’m not holding my breath expecting he’ll call now to apologise.

‘Kelly is good. Very good. But I’m still surprised she’s making the move. There’s nothing like presenting live football. I would never have made that decision. Highlights shows are deadly dull.

Steph McGovern Makes Shock Return To The BBC With Brand-New Show Five Years After Quitting For Channel 4 – And Her Comeback Is Bigger Than Anyone Expected

Steph McGovern is set to make her return to the BBC to host a brand new TV show, five years after she quit to move to Channel 4 (pictured in December)

Steph McGovern is officially heading back to the BBC, five years after leaving the corporation to join Channel 4, in a move that has surprised many in the TV world.

The presenter, 43, originally left the BBC in 2019 to go on maternity leave but later joined Channel 4 to host her own programme Steph’s Packed Lunch. But it was axed in 2023

The 43-year-old presenter originally stepped away from the BBC in 2019 to go on maternity leave, before later joining Channel 4 where she fronted her own daytime show, Steph’s Packed Lunch. However, the programme was axed in 2023, leaving fans wondering when they might see her back on screen.

Steph will front new programme The Big Deal, in which a group of amateur art dealers battle it out as they buy and sell artworks (pictured in July)

Now, Steph is set to host a brand-new BBC series titled The Big Deal, in which a group of amateur art dealers go head-to-head as they buy and sell artworks in a bid to turn a profit.

Back in October, Steph revealed she would be taking over legendary BBC series Crimewatch Live

The six-part limited series is due to premiere later this year, with an exact launch date yet to be confirmed.

Speaking to The Mirror, Steph explained:
“While lots of people are happy to splash out on theatre tickets, music festivals or holidays abroad, spending time and money looking at or buying art can feel a bit more intimidating.”

“This show dispels the myth that art is exclusive. I’m buzzing for you to see how our dealers, from all walks of life, get on when we take them into the heart of the art market, with the ultimate aim of making money.”

Since then, viewers have missed her presence on daytime television, but in October Steph confirmed she would be taking over the legendary BBC series Crimewatch Live.

Sharing the news on social media, she posted a snap alongside co-presenter Rav Wilding and wrote:

“The news is out. Starting Monday #Crimewatch.”

She will join the programme alongside Scottish presenter Jennifer Reoch, with the pair sharing hosting duties across the three-week run. Steph will front the first two Mondays and Tuesdays, with Jennifer taking over from Wednesday to Friday, before Steph hosts the entire third week.

It has now been 40 years since the original Crimewatch launched, with the format combining crime reconstructions and public appeals to help police solve cases. Since becoming Crimewatch Live, the show has led to multiple arrests and charges.

The new series will feature fresh reconstructions, wanted appeals and updates on ongoing investigations, covering offences ranging from robbery to assault and murder.

FROM LORRAINE TO STRICTLY? — Christine Lampard lined up for a major BBC role following ITV shake-ups

Christine Lampard has reportedly become a ‘firm frontrunner to host Strictly Come Dancing’ after leaving ITV’s Lorraine.

The presenter, 46, now has much more time on her hands following her final stint hosting the daytime TV show after being axed amid the channel’s brutal cuts.

Thanks to Christine’s ‘huge fanbase and skill set’ BBC bosses are said to be eyeing her up to front the dance competition.

Tess and Claudia announced they would be stepping down from their roles on the show in a statement released in October, with speculation about their replacements being rife ever since.

A TV said of Christine: ‘She has a huge fanbase from her years fronting breakfast TV and is a pro at handling live TV, which is no mean feat.

‘Producers love the idea of casting a presenter who has previously taken part in the show as a contestant, as it has worked really well in the past on spin-off show It Takes Two.’

They added to The Sun: ‘Now she has more free time she has become a firm frontrunner and a name on everyone’s lips.’

The Daily Mail has contacted Christine’s representative for comment.

Christine and Ranvir Singh, 48, were revealed to no longer be needed to stand in for main presenter Lorraine Kelly, 65, earlier this year due to her show facing the majority of cost cutting measures.

Good Morning Britain will now taking the 9-10am slot for 22 weeks of the year, leaving Lorraine to host all five days of the remaining 30 weeks.

Taking to Instagram Christine, who has guest presented the series since 2017, shared a heartfelt tribute to the crew who she branded ‘family’, before treated to a leaving party.

She posed for beaming selfies alongside Andi Peters, who hosts ITVs competitions, and the show’s fashion expert Jo Elvin ahead of being presented with gifts, Champagne and a huge bouquet.

Christine captioned the sweet reel: ‘After many years of being part of the @lorraine family it is now coming to an end. We’ve laughed, lunched and learnt so much from one another’.

Colleagues who have become the best of friends. As many of the team enter a new world in 2026, I want to thank every single person. I love you all! It has been the best of times’.

It comes after Lorraine said she hoped audiences will ‘stay with her’ after ITV‘s decision to brutally slash and overhaul her show.

The iconic TV host, who previously branded the changes as ‘heartbreaking‘ but still refused to quit, said she ‘never takes her viewers for granted’ and hope they will weather the storm with her.

‘Hopefully the audience will still stay with us, because that’s the most important thing to me, is you know, that the audience are still enjoying what I do and the fact that people are so kind and they still watch after all these years,’.

She went on to reveal how her decades on TV has resulted in fans considering her a friend: ‘It’s something that I never, ever take for granted and I never take any, any of this for granted. I really don’t, because it’s, it’s an honour’.

A hunger striker on remand over her alleged role in a Palestine Action raid has said she is ‘deteriorating’ and struggling to breathe.

Heba Muraisi is on day 65 without food after becoming the first member of an initial group of eight prisoners to begin the action.

Struggling to record audio over the course of several days, she said she is ‘terrified’ but kept going by ‘love and solidarity’ as her condition worsens at HMP New Hall in Flockton, West Yorkshire.

The hunger strike is believed to be the largest of its type in the British Isles since 1981, when 10 Irish prisoners died.

They included IRA leader Bobby Sands, who went 66 days without food.

The 31-year-old spent almost a week recording the answers to questions from Metro as she is having difficulty concentrating.

‘As each day passes I get weaker, aches worsen, headaches are frequent and concentrating is extremely difficult,’ she said.

‘My body shakes, I get dizzy to the point of nausea and now breathing is getting hard. I am deteriorating in this cell, I am dying.’

    ‘Denied communication’

The protester, from Barnet, north London, is awaiting trial over her alleged role in the break-in at a research and development facility owned by Elbit Systems, a UK subsidiary of an Israeli defence firm, in Filton near Bristol.

The lifeguard and florist was arrested in a dawn raid on November 19 last year, according to support group Prisoners for Palestine.

Her trial is not scheduled to take place until June, by which time she will have spent close to two years in prison on remand.

Muraisi said: ‘Prison is prison, it’s the same oppressive system under the false pretence that it is rehabilitation.

‘Here I’ve been heavily restricted and monitored, visitors not being approved, phone numbers being rejected including doctors, emails getting blocked, my legal team has been ignored.

‘On day 45 of my hunger strike I was threatened to be forcefully moved by a custodial manager in the presence of a senior officer.

‘I was moved away from my support system I had built, and the only friend I had made on this new wing was recently just moved.’

What can happen during a hunger strike?

Ian Miller, a historian of hunger strikes in British prisons, told Metro that a hunger strike can typically play out physiologically as follows:

Days One to Seven: decreasing heart rate, physical wasting, weight loss (as bodies eat up their fat reserves in the adipose tissue.

Days Eight to Fourteen: Bodies begin using glycogen stores (energy located in the liver and muscles). Ammonia produced giving a distinctive smell. Weight loss slows down. Loss of heart mass causing a slow heart beat.

Days Fifteen Onwards: Tendencies to collapse and become bedbound. Nightmares very common early on. Physical and psychological health worsens significantly. Very disturbed sleep. ‘Raving all night’, as one hunger strike termed it in the 1920s.

Around twenty to sixty/seventy days: Patients essentially in a state of complete exhaustion, but often still conscious until around 50 days.

Over 70 days: With zero medical intervention or food, this seems to be roughly the limit of survival. In 1920, hunger striker Terence MacSwiney lasted 74 days before he died.

    Mum’s prayers

Teuta Hoxha, Kamran Ahmed and Lewie Chiaramello are also taking part in the hunger strike, while Amu Gib, Jon Cink, Umer Khalid and Qesser Zuhrah have ‘paused’ their participation.

All eight are on remand, charged with offences relating to break-ins and criminal damage either at Elbit in August 2024 or another raid at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire in June last year.

The protesters’ demands include ‘end all censorship’ of communication and correspondence in jail, immediate bail, ‘right to a fair trial’, de-proscribing Palestine Action and shutting Elbit down.

Muraisi, who has family in Rafah on the Gaza Strip, has previously stated that she ‘will not compromise until all demands are met’ and will ‘continue to fight and resist’ in prison.

She said: ‘It’s the love and solidarity from the people and my mum’s duas (personal prayer) that give me strength.

‘And it’s the rage from the injustice my comrades and I are facing that keeps me going. I’m well aware that things could turn at any minute, I’m terrified, I’d be stupid not to be.

‘As of today, I’ve been held on remand for 409 days while awaiting trial.

‘To make things worse I’ve been moved nearly 188 miles up north away from my family and support system.’

Muraisi has daily calls with her mum but said: ‘When New Hall cut off my phone line for ridiculous security reasons it just causes unnecessary distress for her.’ Asked if her family supported her hunger strike, she replied: ‘I can’t say that my family support my current actions, but they understand why I’m doing it.’

    ‘Serious offences’

A spokesperson for Practice Plus Group, which manages healthcare on behalf of the NHS at New Hall, said: ‘We provide compassionate, evidence-based care in prisons and manage any patients who are refusing food in accordance with all the relevant policies and protocols, and in partnership with prison teams and the wider NHS.’

The government maintains that it has no records from NHS staff that prison officers have obstructed healthcare.

Lord Timpson, minister of state for prisons, probation and reducing reoffending, said: ‘While very concerning, hunger strikes are not a new issue for our prisons.

‘Over the last five years, we’ve averaged over 200 a year and we have longstanding procedures in place to ensure prisoner safety.

‘Prison healthcare teams provide NHS care and continuously monitor the situation. HMPPS are clear that claims that hospital care is being refused are entirely misleading – they will always be taken when needed and a number of these prisoners have already been treated in hospital.

‘These prisoners are charged with serious offences including aggravated burglary and criminal damage.

‘Remand decisions are for independent judges, and lawyers can make representations to the court on behalf of their clients.

‘Ministers will not meet with them – we have a justice system that is based on the separation of powers, and the independent judiciary is the cornerstone of our system.

‘It would be entirely unconstitutional and inappropriate for ministers to intervene in ongoing legal cases.’

Beckham family at war as Brooklyn ‘sends legal letter’ to David and Victoria

Brooklyn Beckham’s latest move has reportedly shocked his parents – David and Victoria – as their family feud appears to worsen by the ‘arrival of a legal letter’

Brooklyn Beckham has reportedly sent a legal notice to his parents David and Victoria Beckham. The family feud has been erupting for some time, but in a shocking turn of events, it has been claimed that Brooklyn has sent a ‘desist’ letter to his family.

The feud between Brooklyn and his parents seemed to pass a point of no return when it was claimed by Brooklyn’s younger brother that David and Victoria had been blocked by Brooklyn. Sources claimed David and Victoria had unfollowed their son, but it was later revealed that Brooklyn had blocked them and other family members, according to his younger sibling.

It has now been claimed that Brooklyn had sent a letter in the summer when he asked correspondence between them to come through his lawyers. It has also been alleged that Brooklyn “wanted to try and make amends privately not publicly”.

Brooklyn and Nicola previously spent Christmas with the Beckhams

A source told The Sun: “Truly, people do not know the full facts of this heart-breaking tale, and think Brooklyn was just being truculent when he blocked his parents. The reality is that he issued them with a letter at the end of last summer, asking for any correspondence to go via lawyers only, and wanted to try and make amends privately not publicly.

“He felt his parents continued to ignore his wishes and kept mentioning him online instead of reaching out privately. For their part, David and Victoria have simply tried to let their beloved eldest son know the door is always open, and that they still care.”

The source went on to say that the Beckhams were “utterly bemused and devastated” by what had happened, with the chance of a reconciliation seeming further away than ever.

Friends had claimed that the Beckhams invited Brooklyn to be with them as he collected his knighthood in November. An olive branch was also said to be extended to Nicola, with her being invited for the evening dinner.

However, it has been reported that Brooklyn and Nicola declined. Whilst contact has seemed to completely fold between their eldest son, it is believed Brooklyn is still speaking with his grandparents on both sides.

“Brooklyn absolutely adores them, and knows how much pain this is causing everyone. So he has reached out in his own time, but tried to keep it low-key so as not to drag them into it,” the source said.

Brooklyn’s fallout with his parents seemed to have escalated around the former footballer’s 50th birthday. Things have since played out in the media, with sources claiming Brooklyn tried to arrange coffee with his parents when he was in the UK.

Separate sources claimed the fall out began years ago over Nicola and Brooklyn’s wedding. The pair later addressed the feud, with Nicola saying: “I was going to [wear a Victoria Beckham wedding dress] and I really wanted to, and then a few months down the line, she realised that her atelier couldn’t do it, so then I had to pick another dress. She didn’t say you can’t wear it; I didn’t say I didn’t want to wear it. That’s where it started, and then they ran with that.”

Brooklyn added: “I’ve learned they’re always going to try to write stuff like that. They’re always going to try and put people down. But everyone gets along, which is good.”
