  • Courtroom Showdown Erupts in Crowborough as Furious Residents Sue the Government Over Explosive Migrant Housing Plans, Triggering a National Political Storm

Courtroom Showdown Erupts in Crowborough as Furious Residents Sue the Government Over Explosive Migrant Housing Plans, Triggering a National Political Storm

A legal battle has been launched in the high court over Government plans to move hundreds of asylum seekers into a military camp in east Sussex.

Crowborough Shield, a community-led campaign group, has lodged an application for a full judicial review of the decision to place more than 500 asylum seekers at the camp.

The Government says the camp will help in its pledge to stop using hotels to house asylum seekers.

But Crowborough Shield says there has been a lack of transparency surrounding the decision and have raised serious concerns about staffing at the camp, police provision and the impact on health services.

It comes as police had to arrest a man over ‘violent disorder’ outside the local barracks on Tuesday.

In a statement the campaign group, which has raised almost £70,000 to pay legal fees, said: ‘We can confirm that, on behalf of the people of Crowborough, we have issued proceedings against the Home Secretary in respect of her decision to house migrants at Crowborough Camp.

‘We are seeking judicial review to overturn the decision. Our position is that the government’s actions breach the community’s common law rights to justice and procedural fairness.

‘We rely on Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights which protects our right to a fair hearing. Our position is that residents have been denied the opportunity to understand, scrutinise, or challenge the decision-making process.’

Kim Bailey, director of the group, said: ‘There is huge frustration in the community that a decision with such a fundamental impact on our town has been made without consultation or engagement.

‘It feels as though the government doesn’t think we matter. The barracks site is unsuitable for housing asylum seekers – many of whom will have fled conflict and trauma – and its location beside the Ashdown Forest risks significant environmental harm. In the absence of any clear information, fear and uncertainty are growing across the town.’

Polly Glynn, a solicitor at Deighton Pierce Glynn who is representing Crowborough Shield, said the case would test the limits of government power over community’s right to be heard over decisions.

On Tuesday night several police cars raced to the scene after an alleged confrontation between a protester and a worker attempting to leave ended in a report of assault.

Sussex Police issue a temporary section 34 dispersal notice giving officers powers to order people to leave roads surrounding the barracks.

Chief Supt Nick Dias said a 44-year-old man from Heathfield was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

‘Investigations are continuing into several reported assaults and threats of violence during the incident.’

He said he knew the proposed use of the training camp had ’caused concern within the community’.

‘We recognise the public’s right to peacefully protest and express their views. The vast majority of those who have taken part in recent demonstrations have done so lawfully and respectfully.

‘However, when the actions of a small minority stray into criminality, we will take appropriate action.’

Last week a group of residents were branded ‘vigilantes’ after they set up a patrol to tackle anti-social behaviour after the arrival of the migrant in the town.

The Crowborough Patrol will wander the town centre day and night wearing hi-viz jackets and red baseball caps.

Patrol members joined thousands of residents in the market town who have marched through the streets against the move.

One resident criticised the move saying the launch of the patrol only added to tensions in the 22,000-resident town.

He said: ‘A bunch of vigilantes with too much time on their hands is the last thing this town needs.

‘It is already a powder keg situation and what we don’t need is for a self-appointed gang ready to put a flame to it. It’s a provocation and should be stopped by the police.’

Work has already started on making the army cadet training camp fit to house 540 asylum seekers with accommodation, toilet blocks and security fencing being erected.

A group of protesters staged a picket at the entrance into the camp in an attempt to challenge workers carrying out construction at at the camp.

On Monday the 37-acre site officially ceased to be a Ministry of Defence base with the Home Office becoming the new landlord.

As well as legal action launched by Crowborough Shield, Weald District Council says it is taking the advice of senior barristers to explore what legal channels may be open to them should the Government press ahead with the plans.

The camp itself has a proud history going back to the war, when it was used by Canadian forces preparing for D-Day.

Residents, especially those that live on their own, say they are installing panic alarms in their homes over safety fears.

The Home Office has apologised for its handling of its plans to use the the Crowborough camp to house asylum seekers but says it is determined to stamp out the use of hotels to house migrants.

Former England footballer Karen Carney has had a successful career both on and off the pitch and is now aiming to make her mark in national TV history as she advances to the semi-finals of Strictly Come Dancing. The former Birmingham City Women’s star and football pundit has won over fans on the popular dance competition, impressing judges alongside her dance partner Carlos Gu. She hopes to replicate her footballing triumphs and add another feather to her cap this Saturday night.

Despite making it to the final four, the 38-year-olds’ 60s-inspired psychedelic samba earned them 34 points, placing them at the bottom of the most recent leaderboard. However, it was enough to secure their spot in the esteemed semi-finals. Carney boasts an impressive record, having competed in four World Cups, four European Championships, and the London Olympics. This led her to become England’s third-most capped player with 144 appearances, earning her an OBE in 2024.

Despite her recent success and acclaimed footballing skills, there was a time when her sporting career was tainted by controversy. She received a one-match ban and fine for telling an opponent to “f*** off back to Spain”

This incident occurred during a Women’s Super League match in July 2014 between Birmingham City and Bristol Academy, where Carney and Natalia Pablos Sanchon were involved in a series of heated exchanges towards the end of the game.

The Football Association’s investigation found Carney guilty of misconduct for using abusive and/or insulting words towards an opposing player. She was also fined £450 and ordered to complete an education programme.

However, Carney has not allowed this incident to tarnish her legacy and has since gone on to become a key advocate for the sport she dedicated herself to, chairing the government’s review into the future of women’s football in 2022, pushing for better pay, facilities and overall standards.

Working as a pundit, she has received unprecedented amounts of abuse, most notably in December 2020, when her comments about Leeds United resulted in thousands of abusive and sexist messages being sent. An event which led to the deletion of her Twitter account, and she later admitted to having suicidal thoughts during this time.

Carney has not let the wave of online abuse deter her whatsoever as she continues to display the resilience and determination she showed on the pitch to keep working within football and combating online abuse whilst excelling all the way to the Strictly final four.

George and Alexis closed the show with their Charleston.

George was awarded 8, 9, 10, 10 by the judges.

This meant that he ended up with a combined score of 72, and sits in third place on the leaderboard.

One of Strictly Come Dancing’s newest professional dancers, Julian Caillon, 30, has opened up about the programme’s infamous “curse,” which fuels endless speculation over contestants’ romantic entanglements each series.

The notorious “Strictly curse” refers to the idea that taking part in the BBC show—whether as a celebrity or professional dancer—can put existing relationships at risk.

It has been a hot topic in recent years, as various professionals and celebrities have formed relationships after meeting on the programme, including Gemma Atkinson and Gorka Marquez, and Joe Sugg and Dianne Buswell, who are expecting their first child together.

Australian dancer Julian, paired with EastEnders actress Balvinder Sopal, 47, revealed that the curse has been mentioned behind the scenes this year, though only under certain circumstances.

Appearing on the Farmer Will and Jessie podcast, hosted by Love Island stars Will Young and Jessie Wynter, Julian—who became engaged to long-term partner Sofia Ochoa last year—discussed joking about the curse with fellow 2025 semi-finalist George Clarke, 26, reports the Mirror.

When Jessie asked about their playful TikTok video referencing the curse, Julian joked: “Yeah, well it [the curse] strikes again! Unfortunately, George and I, you know, we’ve gone public.”

After some light-hearted banter, Julian clarified: “I’ve only been on the show for the one year, so I can’t speak to what’s happened in the past, but yeah, I just think I’m just here to work, do my thing, focus on the dancing, get Bal to be as great as she can be.

“But I think in general, whether it’s the Strictly curse, or whether it’s anything else, I think you only make it a big deal if you kind of ignore it.

“So, people like to talk about it, it’s there, we don’t focus on it at all. It doesn’t really ever get brought up, unless it’s in a joke, you know, on set or anything like that.

“We kind of just carry on, do our thing, and I go home to my loving fiancée every day, and that’s it.”

Jessie added: “At the end of the day, you guys are both there to work and I feel as though, with dance, it is very performative, it is made to look romantic, you’re made to feel those emotions. I think the Strictly curse is just taking it a bit too far,” with Will adding: “You’re telling a story, aren’t you?”

Julian agreed: “Yeah, it’s just acting, really. I mean, you know, it’s no different than if you’re in a movie and you’re playing a role. At the end of the day, it’s acting.

This Saturday night, Balvinder and Julian are set to perform two routines in a bid to secure a place in next weekend’s grand finale of Strictly 2025. They will dance a Waltz to Michael Bublé’s “At This Moment” and a Salsa to Gloria Estefan’s “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You/Get On Your Feet.”

They will compete for a spot in the final against fellow semi-finalists George Clarke and Alexis Warr, Amber Davies and Nikita Kuzmin, and Karen Carney and Carlos Gu.

The popular BBC dance competition returned to our screens on Saturday night (December 13), with hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman welcoming the final four couples back to the ballroom for the eagerly awaited semi-final.

Shirley, along with her fellow judges Anton Du Beke, Motsi Mabuse, and Craig Revel Horwood, were all set to assess the performances, in preparation for next week’s grand finale.

During the show, Karen Carney and Carlos Gu performed a Waltz to Whitney Houston’s One Moment in Time, with both becoming visibly emotional following their routine.

The judges were also moved by Karen’s journey on the show, with a tearful Anton admitting: “I got a bit emotional, I had to keep my glasses on… I mean this in the nicest possible way, I never thought you’d be capable of doing something like that,” reports Wales Online.

“I never thought for a second that you could dance like that. I know what you can do, you can do crash, bang, wallop. I never thought you could do that quality, that softness, that sensitivity.”

He added: “You came into this competition with a certain aptitude for a style of dancing, we saw that in week one with your Jive. You’ve carried those qualities on into other dances Look at the state of me, I’m an emotional wreck.

Shirley added: “I just find it all so overwhelming. Weeks, months, hours you’ve spent, all of you, in the studio to bring your very best. To bring this kind of performance, Karen, is absolutely fantastic.”

In the Clauditorium, Carlos also broke down in tears, saying: “I wanted us to do this dance for each other and for the journey that we had. It’s a moment for us, let’s cherish our moment together.”

The pair then scored an impressive 39 points from the judges. This comes after bookmakers’ odds revealed that Karen and Carlos could miss out on lifting the Glitterball Trophy.

Karen, who was the bookies’ favourite to win the show, could be beaten by George Clarke. The YouTuber has been given odds of 5/6 of winning, while Karen is in second place with odds of 11/10.

Balvinder Sopal, who has been the bookies’ favourite to leave for weeks, could now come in third place with odds of 20/1. This also means that Amber Davies, who landed in the dance-off last week, could miss out on making the final, despite consistently topping the leaderboard.

Last weekend, Amber and her partner Nikita Kuzmin defeated Lewis Cope and Katya Jones in the dance-off, with Lewis’s departure being branded one of the “worst exits” in Strictly history.

The TV star then recounted a more recent time this year when she took Lois back to university for her second year. She said: “This year will be a long year because the second year is always hard anyway.”

Eight Bombshell Words From Rylan Clark After The This Morning Immigration Speech That Left Viewers Stunned And Social Media Exploding

    Rylan

Rylan Clark uttered eight words after his anti-immigration speech (Image: ITV)

Rylan Clark uttered eight simple words when This Morning cut to an ad break after his explosive anti-immigration speech. The X Factor star was on the ITV show on August 27, alongside Josie Gibson, Camilla Tominey and Tim Campbell, and noted that while healthcare professionals from “other countries” saved his mum Linda’s life, he didn’t agree with how they are crossing the Channel.

He said at the time: “I find it absolutely insane that all these people are risking their lives coming across the Channel. And when they get here, it does seem, and I think this is why a lot of Labour voters as well are saying there’s something wrong, it feels like, ‘Welcome, come on in’. That’s the narrative we’re being fed.”

Now Camilla has exposed the eight words Rylan said after the segment. Speaking on former BBC presenter Andrew Gold’s Heretics podcast, she was asked: “Did the Rylan moment feel as big as it turned out to be, in the moment, for you?”

Camilla said: “I kind of thought, ‘Oh, he’s putting his neck out’. And then we had a break in between and he goes, ‘I’m going to get absolutely pilloried for this’.”

Gold replied: “He’s probably sitting there going, ‘F***ing hell’.” But Tominey was desperate to disprove that theory, telling him: “No, I don’t think so. I think he actually… I think Rylan is very misunderstood. I think he’s actually a really bright guy.

“I think he’s very well read and I think he has a persona – he said this himself – he is Rylan, and then he is himself. And he’s a very capable broadcaster both on TV and radio. He’s been around the block a bit. He knows what he thinks. He isn’t afraid to express it.

“I think it was more in the vein of ‘I’m going to get pilloried’ as in, ‘This is what life is like these days’ than a fearful, ‘Oh my God’.”

Gold commented: “But I don’t know if he’s been allowed on since.”

Tominey explained: “Well, they’ve kind of reconstituted the show a bit, because it’s now Cat and Ben doing the main stuff, Dermot and Alison doing the Fridays. I think they’d be absolutely ludicrous to not let him back on because he’s one of the best guest presenters they have.”

Gold echoed: “Well I’ve heard from Rob Rinder as well, that apparently Rylan is very smart.”

  • “SHE’S LEAVING OUR CHILDREN WITH STRANGERS”: Dakota EXPOSES Taylor Frankie Paul’s “shameful distraction” as a direct threat to the kids’ safety, CLAIMING she is leaving the children alone or with unqualified handlers while she CHASES LOVE INTERESTS for the cameras

“SHE’S LEAVING OUR CHILDREN WITH STRANGERS”: Dakota EXPOSES Taylor Frankie Paul’s “shameful distraction” as a direct threat to the kids’ safety, CLAIMING she is leaving the children alone or with unqualified handlers while she CHASES LOVE INTERESTS for the cameras

The bitter custody battle between TikTok star Taylor Frankie Paul and her ex-husband, Dakota, has exploded into a horrifying public safety concern. Dakota has gone public with a devastating accusation: Taylor is allegedly prioritizing her frantic pursuit of new love interests for her online audience, leaving their young children exposed to danger with “unqualified strangers” or even alone.

Dakota, who has fought fiercely for increased custody, broke his silence in a scathing online post and subsequent court filing, calling Taylor’s behavior a “shameful distraction” and a direct threat to the safety of their two children, Indy and Ocean.

The “Unqualified Handlers” and Abandonment Claims

The core of Dakota’s accusation centers on Taylor’s increasingly chaotic dating life, which is often broadcast on social media. He claims that while she travels, films content, and aggressively “CHASES LOVE INTERESTS for the cameras,” the children are being left in precarious situations.

“She’s leaving our children with people she barely knows—complete, unqualified handlers—or in situations where they are effectively unsupervised,” Dakota claimed in a filed statement. “It’s a shameful distraction. Her priority is clicks and her next fling, not their safety.”

The filings detail multiple instances where the children were allegedly left with new acquaintances or nannies who were not properly vetted, or instances where Taylor would leave them for extended periods to travel with new romantic partners. Dakota argues this pattern of neglect is a clear sign of poor judgment and constitutes an immediate danger to the minors.

    Prioritizing Views Over Safety

Dakota asserts that Taylor’s obsession with maintaining her image as a desirable, single mother—and the lucrative views that come with it—has blinded her to the very real safety risks. He specifically pointed to a recent trip where Taylor allegedly brought along a barely-known male companion while the children were present, only to leave the children with him and disappear for an entire day to film content.

The accusation is not just about poor parenting; it’s a legal claim of child endangerment designed to sway the custody battle decisively in Dakota’s favor. He is demanding a modification to the custody agreement, citing Taylor’s inability to prioritize their children’s basic safety over her relentless pursuit of online fame and romance.

As the court reviews this severe allegation, Taylor Frankie Paul faces the most serious career and personal crisis of her life. The question is whether her pursuit of “love interests” will cost her custody of her children forever.

The Liberal Democrats boast two holds, along with a gain from the Conservatives, while Reform also managed to bag another seat.

It leaves Reform in the driving seat having an aggregate result of 61 (+52) since the 2025 Local Elections, while the Liberal Democrats continue to chase their tails with an aggregate result of 53 (+18).

It remains bleak reading for the Conservatives, who sit on 18 (-21), and even more so for Labour on 14 (-41).

With that being said, GB News takes a closer look at this week’s five by-election results.

    Tudor (Watford)

Liberal Democrats held on to their seat in the Tudor ward of Watford with an increased margin, as Callum Robertson emerged victorious.

The by-election was called after Councillor Charlott Saunders, elected in May 2023, was unable to attend council meetings for over six months for “personal reasons”.

Cllr Robertson said: “I’m humbled by the result. Thank you to every resident who put their trust in me and the Liberal Democrat team.

“From leading the charge to rebuild our new hospital, taking our crumbling roads and pavements seriously, and tackling crime, people are backing the Lib Dems to take action on the issues they care about. I’m proud to join a team that works hard all year round and gets real results.”

    Liberal Democrats – 51.6 per cent (+4.3)
    Reform UK – 27.2 per cent (+17.8)

    Labour – 7.0 per cent (-16.4)

Liberal Democrats held on to their seat in Watford with Callum Robertso

Up north in Middlesbrough, Reform UK recorded a major win, with Joanne Rush emerging victorious.

She snatched the seat from the Liberal Democrats to become the party’s first-ever Middlesbrough councillor

The by-election had been called after the shock resignation of Councillor Morgan McClintock.
