Princess Diana’s family left stunned after fire rages at estate where she’s buried!

Princess Diana’s younger brother Earl Spencer revealed on social media that a farmhouse at Althorp House in Northamptonshire, the family’s ancestral home, had been burned down by vandals

The brother of Princess Diana says he’s been left ‘stunned’ after a fire destroyed a building at the estate when she is buried. Diana’s younger brother Earl Spencer took to social media today to reveal that a farmhouse at Althorp House had been targeted by vandals and had burned down.

He shared pictures of the blaze as well as the aftermath showing the destroyed building. In a post on X, he thanked Northamptonshire Fire Service for dealing with the fire, adding that nobody had been in the building at the time. He wrote: “Stunned to learn that one of @AlthorpHouse⁩’s farmhouses – fortunately, unoccupied at the time – was apparently burnt down by vandals last night. With thanks to @northantsfire ⁩for doing their very best. So very sad that anyone would think this a fun thing to do.”

Meanwhile, Adey Greeno, Althorp’s conservation manager later shared on X that the farmhouse had to be “razed to the ground” for safety reasons”.

Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue service said: “The service remains on scene after a fire on Mill Lane in Kingsthorpe, Northampton. We were called at around 1.30am this morning (May 28) and crews arrived to find an unoccupied two-story property fully on fire.

“At the height of the fire, four crews from across the service wearing breathing apparatus used hose-reel jets to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading. This morning, one crew remains on the scene with a water bowser to continue dampening down any remaining hotspots.” It added that it does not yet know the cause.

Althorp has been the ancestral home of the Spencer family for 500 years. It was where Diana grew up after her parents divorced before she married the now-King Charles. The 13,500-acre estate was where she was laid to rest after her untimely death in 1997. It opens to visitors each summer.

Her grave is in the middle of a Round Oval Lake on the estate, which is inaccessible to the public. After her death in 1997, her brother Charles said her family agreed it would be a fitting final resting place for the princess due to its “beauty and tranquillity”.

Despite the island being inaccessible to the public, her family can visit it, and it is said that both Prince William and Prince Harry have visited their mother’s grave in the past. In fact, in his memoir Spare, Harry revealed that he took his now-wife, Meghan Markle, to the island.

The pair visited the grounds in August 2017 after being together for roughly a year. In his book, Harry describes how they rowed out to the island on the 20th anniversary of Diana’s death, where he recalled seeing Meghan with her “palms flat against the stone.”

After taking time alone to reflect and pay tribute to his mother, he recalled sensing that his girlfriend at the time also wanted a private moment. He said, “When I returned, she was on her knees with her eyes closed and her palms flat against the stone.” The duke added that Meghan had told him that she had asked Diana for “clarity and guidance” during her moment alone.

Diana’s brother Charles is the current custodian of the estate, and his oldest son, Louis Spencer, Viscount Althorp, will inherit it over William and Harry.

Even though Louis has three older sisters—Lady Kitty Spencer, Lady Amelia Spencer, and Lady Eliza Spencer—the aristocracy’s system of primogeniture means that titles are passed down to the oldest boy, not the firstborn child.

His oldest sister, Kitty, a model and socialite, has previously said about her little brother inheriting the estate over her: “Primogeniture can be a tricky topic, because as times are changing, attitudes are as well. We’ve grown up understanding that it’s Louis to inherit, and Louis will do an incredible job.”

Their father Charles noted in 2015, “I would be totally relaxed about Kitty inheriting it, but… if I chose Kitty, it would be against all the tradition that goes with Althorp.”

Penny Lancaster could reportedly rival Meghan Markle’s lifestyle brand if she chooses to fully commit to a new business endeavour. The former model, who is married to singer Sir Rod Stewart, revealed recently that she has started producing a product initially made for her family, now sharing it with friends as well.

A recent article compared the 54-year-old to the Duchess of Sussex, who recently entered the business world with her lifestyle brand, As Ever. Writing in the Mail on Sunday, it was stated that Penny is “giving Meghan’s As Ever brand a run for its money” with her line of honey, coinciding with reports that Meghan is trying to make a splash with her Raspberry Spread.

While speaking at the Chelsea Flower Show, the Loose Women star mentioned that she had previously been producing the item solely for her family, but is now sharing it with friends. Harriet also disclosed that Penny began her unusual venture with a few beehives at her mansion, reports Glasgow Live.

Beyond honey, the Duchess sells various food products on her website, including Herbal Lemon Ginger Tea and a Shortbread Cookie Mix with Flower Sprinklers. Nevertheless, one particular product might signal an emerging rivalry.

For $28, customers can sample Meghan’s Limited-Edition Wildflower Honey with Honeycomb on the As Ever website, described as being “inspired by Meghan’s own appreciation” of the “art of harvesting” at her California home in Montecito.

It now seems that Penny Lancaster could challenge Meghan Markle in the world of lifestyle brands if she decides to take her new venture a step further. In the world of celebrity updates, Penny recently took to Instagram to express her immense pride in her husband, a true music icon, as they celebrate an impressive 18 years of marriage.

Accompanied by a love heart emoji and a congratulatory banner, Penny couldn’t hide her admiration for the 80 year old rock star: “So proud of my man – lifetime achievement award @amas.”

The photo shows Rod looking dapper in a black suit with a crisp white shirt. The rock sensation has been honoured with the American Music Awards’ lifetime achievement award, which was presented by five of his children in a touching moment.

Addressing the audience, Rod expressed his surprise and delight: “I’m absolutely flabbergasted. I didn’t know they were here – my children.” He proceeded to thank his fellow musicians and reminisced about his youthful passion for simply wanting to sing—not for fame or fortune.

Rod humbly said: “That’s all I wanted to do. I didn’t want to be rich or famous. And here I am, a few years later, picking up this wonderful award.”

Renowned for chart-toppers like ‘Da Ya Think I’m Sexy? ‘ and ‘Maggie May’, the legendary singer has amassed over 120 million album sales globally, with numerous albums reaching the Billboard 200’s top spots.

Among other headline-grabbers of the evening were Eminem who bagged Favourite Male Hip Hop Artist, and Billie Eilish who triumphed as Artist of the Year.

Harry Potter star Miriam Margolyes has given a heart-rending update on her health, revealing her fear that she might not have much time left. The 84-year-old actress, known for her role as Professor Sprout in the magical franchise, opened up about her health concerns during an interview with The Times.

She confessed: “When you know that you haven’t got long to live – and I’m probably going to die within the next five or six years, if not before, I’m loath to leave behind performing. It’s such a joy. I yearn to play roles that don’t confine me to wheelchairs, but I’m just not strong enough.”

Despite her vibrant career, the Oxford-born actress has faced several health challenges over the years, including spinal stenosis, arthritis, and rheumatism. In 2023, she underwent a procedure to replace an aortic valve, avoiding more invasive open-heart surgery.

Jokingly, she said on Jessie and Lennie Ware’s Table Manners podcast: “I’ve got a cow’s heart now,” further explaining, “Well, not the whole heart. I’ve had an aortic valve replaced by a cow’s aortic valve. I don’t know how common it is. I’d never heard of that operation. But it saves you from having open heart surgery, which would be infinitely more invasive.”

Although the surgery was a success, Miriam admitted she still endures pain and physical limitations. She has previously stated she is registered as disabled and relies on sticks, a walker, and a mobility scooter to aid her movement.

Miriam candidly discussed her health challenges and her status as registered disabled, confessing to Closer magazine that she struggles with mobility: “I can’t walk very well, and I’m registered disabled. I use all kinds of assistance. I’ve got two sticks and a walker and they’re such a bore, but I’ve just got a mobility scooter, which is a lot of fun.”

The esteemed actress has never shied away from speaking openly about her health issues, even hinting that her performances at the Edinburgh Fringe may be behind her due to pain and mobility constraints.

Offering an intimate glimpse into her struggle during a chat with Metro, she divulged: “I’m often in pain… bodily conditions make life difficult, so it’s unlikely I will do it again. But I love connecting with an audience, and I love sharing my knowledge and love of Dickens.”

Margolyes hasn’t kept her concerns over future care needs secret either, voicing apprehensions to Radio Times about affording adequate carers.

She further expanded on her thoughts while visiting Loose Women, where she admitted: “One day I will need carers. I want to be comfortable and I want them to be properly paid for. It is really because I want to make money though and they pay me to do it.”

HBO has announced the next trio to take on the iconic roles of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley for the upcoming TV series as one already has an acting past

Harry Potter fans have been introduced to the next trio taking over the iconic roles for the TV remake – and one actor has been on screens before. After months of waiting, HBO have confirmed who will be taking on Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley.

The three young actors are Dominic McLaughlin, who will be playing Harry Potter, while Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout will be starring as Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley respectively.

Harry Potter’s executive producers Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod said in a statement that they are “delighted” to reveal new stars after an “extraordinary search”, which began back in September last year.

Actors Emma Watson (L), Daniel Radcliffe (C) and Rupert Grint (R)

Based on JK Rowling’s hit novels, the TV series will be a faithful adaptation of the books, according to HBO. While the trio have been dubbed as newcomers, many fans have been stunned to find out they have seen Hermione’s actress before.

Following in the footsteps of Emma Watson, who landed the mega role when she was 11-years-old, Arabella has already had a taste of the small screen.

She has featured on both television and in theatre after studying at some of the country’s most well respected acting schools. Arabella, who also goes by Bella, began her career at Aldance, a studio in Bracknell that offers dancing classes for children from 18 months to adulthood.

She then moved onto the prestigious British Theatre Academy and the Guildford School of Acting. In 2013, Bella landed her first role when she was cast as the star character Matilda in the West End production, Matilda The Musical.

The actress was the production’s youngest cast member as she took on the six-month acting period in September 2023. She even featured on BBC’s The One Show for World Book Day as Matilda.

Bella impressed on the stage and helped to land her the part of Control in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 2024 London revival of Starlight Express.

Acting isn’t Bella’s only enjoyment as she plays hockey for her local club and spends time skiing and horse riding. The young star also competes in swimming galas and triathlons and can even play the clarinet.

Fans have also noticed Bella has a striking resemblance to Wednesday actress Jenna Ortega. The American actress was a child star in Jane The Virgin and shot to stardom thanks to her Netflix role as Wednesday Addams.

Many fans pointed out their similar looks as one said: “Arabella Stanton looks like young Jenna Ortega or is it only me??? Hermoine in HBO’s #HarryPotter series.”

Another added: “Arabella Stanton looks like a young Jenna Ortega.” Someone else commented: “Arabella who? That’s clearly a young Jenna Ortega.”

When announcing the trio, Harry Potter’s executive producers said: “The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen.

“We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It’s been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.”

Brooklyn Beckham has been hit with a four-word warning from concerned fans after slamming his family. Tensions have been rife in the Beckham and Peltz families in recent months as their relationship continues to become strained.

Earlier this month, Brooklyn, 26, and his wife, Nicola Peltz, 30, had been set to attend a string of swanky celebrations for his dad, David’s 50th birthday, but the couple decided not to turn up at any. The Beckham family threw a string of celebrations, including a family dinner at their home in the Cotswolds, a trip to Paris and a huge party in London.

Brooklyn and Nicola had flown into London from Los Angeles especially for the event. But instead, they decided to head out for dinner with a friend and documented their evening on social media. Recent reports claim that David and former Spice Girls star Victoria feel that Brooklyn is being held “hostage” in his marriage with Nicola, who is reported to be the decision maker.

Earlier this week, the wannabe photographer turned chef stunned fans when he publicly stated he would always choose his wife over anybody else. Now, he has spoken out for the first time. Taking to Instagram, Brooklyn posed for a snap as he promoted his latest business venture, his hot sauce brand.

He was seen sipping on a pint of Guinness as he promoted his brand while displaying dozens of his tattoos across his arm. His upload, which has been liked over 11,000 times, was soon flooded with messages from his online followers. “Reconcile with your family! You will only regret it if anything happens. I lost my mum unexpectedly. Imagine my sadness and guilt. Please do it,” said one.

A second added: “Brooklyn put the games aside get in touch with your Dad & Mum! You know how much they love you.” “Real men don’t treat their families like he does,” commented another. Sources close to the Beckham’s have now said that they are hoping his sister, Harper Seven’s upcoming birthday could be an ice breaker for the family.

Speaking to The Sun, a source explained that the Beckham family are hoping the rift will have been resolved by July 10. But some do not feel this will be the case. They told the outlet: “It doesn’t seem likely at the moment.”

Meanwhile, a source close to Brooklyn and his wife said that she has succeeded in finally helping him “see the emotional abuse and toxic behaviour within his family”.

He recently stated that he would always choose his wife
He recently stated that he would always choose his wife

However, an insider close to the Beckhams, who previously described the accusations as “deeply unpleasant and patently untrue”, said it was a “bit rich” for Nicola’s friends to lecture about toxic behaviour.

“Brooklyn is now being referred to as ‘the hostage,’ he is in a situation where those who love Brooklyn fear that he is being controlled by Nicola, and it is heartbreaking,” one insider told Mail Online. They added: “Videos like this are just not what he does. He will be dying inside. He’s soppy and he’s a romantic, but that video just isn’t him. He hates all of that stuff so you have to wonder if Nicola was behind it.”

It came after Brooklyn shared a video of himself and Nicola riding a motorbike down a road surrounded by sprawling mansions. Making a dig at his family, he captioned his upload: “My whole world x I will love you forever x I always choose you baby x you’re the most amazing person i know xx me and you forever baby.”

  • King Charles’ telling move on Canada trip that ‘won’t have gone unnoticed by Trump’

King Charles’ telling move on Canada trip that ‘won’t have gone unnoticed by Trump’

King Charles was widely seen as delivering a warning shot to US president Donald Trump after his verbal attacks on Canada by delivering a speech at the start of new session of the Canadian Parliament – and royal expert Jennie Bond believes one move by the King made the impact of the message to Trump even greater

King Charles’ unusual move on his trip to Canada made his warning shot to Donald Trump over Canada even greater, a royal expert has claimed. On a whistlestop tour to Canada that lasted less than 48 hours, the King made his first trip to the country as monarch to attend the state opening of parliament.

The King’s trip to Canada, one of the 14 realms where he is head of state, comes in the wake of prolonged aggression from Trump who, amid a global trade war, has claimed the country should become the 51st state of America. Canadians reacted with horror over the outlandish suggestion, with new prime minister Mark Carney insisting during a tense meeting in the Oval Office that his country would “never ever” be for sale.

And during the historic address, written by the Canadian government, to parliament yesterday, the King spoke of Canada being “strong and free”, which garnered huge applause. And for former BBC royal correspondent, Jennie Bond, said the fact that it was decided that Charles would only be making a very short trip to Canada alongside Queen Camilla made it even more impactful.

She told the Mirror : “It might have been the whistlestop tour to end all whistlestop tours, but the fact that it lasted barely 48 hours may well have made its impact even greater. For the King to fly across the Atlantic, essentially to deliver one short speech to Parliament, demonstrated a powerful commitment to Canada – and its fight against President Trump.

“It was soft power at its most potent and it wasn’t lost on the Canadian public and press who called it ‘a masterclass’. It was also hailed as an ‘expression of love’ for Canada and a warning shot to Mr Trump. Without mentioning the American president, King Charles responded to Mr Trump‘s threat of annexation by declaring the country of which he is very much the head of state to be ‘strong and free’.

Charles and Camilla sit on their thrones at the ceremony in Ottawa (Image: PA)

“The speech is, of course, largely written by the Canadian government, but to have the King there in person delivering these words of defiance carried a great deal of regal clout, which will not have gone unnoticed in Washington.

“I think the King will be quite chuffed by the enthusiastic response to his visit— and he probably had quite a giggle over a cartoon joking that Donald Trump had now imposed a 1000 per cent biscuit tariff on Duchy Originals from Charles’s estate at Highgrove.”

Before attending the parliament, both Charles and Camilla received a rapturous reception with huge crowds clamouring to catch a glimpse of them and Jennie added: “The King and Queen were given an extremely warm welcome by huge crowds in Ottawa and there will have been a real appreciation that a man who is still undergoing weekly cancer treatment so readily heeded the Canadian Prime Minister’s call to arms.”

However, Charles’ task in Canada was not an easy one as he had to balance his head of state job in the country with his role in Keir Starmer’s attempt at maintaining strong relations between the UK and the US.

Huge crowds turned out to catch a glimpse at the royal couple (Image: Ian Vogler / Daily Mirror)

The King is expected to host Trump for an unprecedented second state visit to the UK after Mr Starmer handed the President an invitation letter from Charles at the White House in February, which could prove to be tricky.

But Jennie explained: “Later in the year, of course, the King is likely to be hosting a visit from the American president and you might think that would be quite awkward. But the King is perfectly capable of delivering another masterclass in diplomacy – because that’s his job.”

Meghan Markle shares pointed advice for parents on naming babies after ‘royal row’

On the last episode in the series of her podcast, Meghan Markle talked about the pressure of naming a business – and ended up issuing advice to parents on naming the children, years after a row over one of her children’s names

Meghan Markle has shared pointed advice for parents when it comes to naming their babies. In the final episode of her podcast series, Confessions Of A Female Founder, the Duchess of Sussex described the difficulties of trying to start a successful company while caring for young children.

She made the comments while expressing her admiration for podcast guest Sara Blakely, founder of the shapewear clothing company Spanx and a mother of four. During the chat, the pair discussed the pressure of choosing a name for their business, with Meghan opting for the name As Ever for her lifestyle brand. And she shared her own advice for those expecting children when it comes to names saying “Don’t ask anyone’s opinion”.

Meghan while pregnant with son, Archie

Meghan talked about the pressure to get “everyone’s approval” for a brand name and added: “You’re like, ‘What do you think?” And she added: “It’s no different — I will say this to every woman in the world or every person in the world who’s going to have a child — if you have an idea about what you are going to name that baby, you keep it so close to your heart until that baby is born and it’s named. Don’t ask anyone’s opinion.”

Prince Harry and Meghan, of course, chose the names Archie and Lilibet for their children, with their daughter’s name, a tribute to the late Queen, raising eyebrows at the time. The name Lilibet was first used when Harry’s late grandmother was just a toddler and unable to pronounce her own name, Elizabeth, properly.

Her grandfather King George V would affectionately call her Lilibet imitating her own attempts to say Elizabeth. The sweet nickname stuck, and she became Lilibet to her family from then on.

When Harry and Meghan’s daughter was born almost four years ago, a spokesperson for the couple insisted that the duke spoke to his grandmother in advance and would not have used the name had the monarch not been supportive.

However, a palace source told the BBC that the couple had asked the late Queen about the naming of their daughter. Later, in a biography of King Charles, respected royal author Robert Hardman claimed that the late Queen was “as angry as I’d ever seen her” after the Sussexes said they had her blessing to call their daughter Lilibet.

However, in his book Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait, fellow royal writer Gyles Brandreth writes: “According to the Queen, Harry told her the Sussexes wanted to call the baby ‘Lilibet’ in her honour, and she accepted their choice with good grace, taking it as the compliment it was intended to be.

“Others in the family found the choice ‘bewildering’ and ‘rather presumptuous’, given that ‘Lilibet’ as a name had always been intimately and exclusively the Queen’s. Later, the Queen said: ‘I hear they’re calling her Lili, which is very pretty and seems just right.’”

When it comes to their son, the Sussexes reportedly chose the name because, according to the sympathetic Finding Freedom biography of the pair, they wanted “something traditional, a name that was powerful even without a title in front of it.”

His middle name is Harrison, a tribute to Harry as it means ‘son of Henry’ or ‘son of Harry.’ Lilibet’s middle name is Diana, in tribute to her late grandmother, Princess Diana.

  • Lorraine Kelly ‘quitting ITV’ fear after ‘kick in the teeth’ as devastated staff vent fury

Lorraine Kelly ‘quitting ITV’ fear after ‘kick in the teeth’ as devastated staff vent fury

Staff on Lorraine fear its much-loved host might choose to quit if the standard of the show falls due to sweeping ITV cuts – as the channel’s employees are left shell-shocked and in tears over the news

Staff on Lorraine fear its much-loved host could quit the show after it bore the brunt of massive ITV cuts.

The presenter has been left devastated by the scale of job losses set to hit the programme which is set to be slashed from an hour to 30minutes. It will also now only air for 30 weeks out of 52.

ITV boss Kevin Lygo has insisted that presenters will remain the same across all affected programmes.

But a source said: “There are genuine fears among staff that Lorraine may decide to walk if the quality of the show they are putting out declines. It’s hard to see how standards won’t fall….and there are questions over whether Lorraine will want to be associated with that. Lorraine and her team are perfectionists – it’s why the show is loved by so many.”

The source said the move was a “kick in the teeth” especially given ITV was crowing this week about the show amassing its highest ratings for four years.

Staff fear BAFTA winner Lorraine may walk if the standard of the show falls (Image: Getty Images for BAFTA)

A second insider added: “This is a presenter who has just come back from having an operation, has won a BAFTA, is enjoying record ratings….and then ITV show their appreciation by yanking her off air half the year. Staff are beside themselves, and have been in tears constantly. It doesn’t make any sense given the trajectory the show is on.”

Lorraine Kelly: Staff are worried about her future

Altogether, ITV is slashing 220 jobs, as it aims for cost savings of up to £50million.

Insiders reported “collective devastation” after being ordered to a meeting of all daytime staff yesterday to be told that almost half of the 450 jobs in ITV Daytime were being cut.

The overhaul will see the money saved being “reinvested” into other programming with a focus on drama, sport, entertainment and reality programming.

From January 2026, Loose Women will also adopt a “seasonal” schedule of 30 weeks a year, a loss of more than 10 weeks on the current schedule but a return to the pattern it held for more than a decade before 2016.

ITV’s news provider ITN is to take over production of Good Morning Britain from next year as part of the major revamp of the channel’s long-running daytime brands. GMB will be re-homed within ITN’s Gray’s Inn Road headquarters and be extended by half an hour for 30 weeks of the year (6am – 9.30am), and by an hour for the remaining 22 weeks when Lorraine is now off air (6am – 10am).

The changes aim to allow GMB to benefit from “the journalistic and production resources already in place for national news bulletins”. The extra hours each week will be filled with extra regional news, investigations and analysis of the biggest stories of the day.

Staff reacted with widespread dismay to the huge number of job cuts. The current Good Morning Britain team was particularly hard hit – of the 133 employees who currently make the early-bird magazine show, hosted by Susanna Reid, Richard Madeley and Ed Balls, just 38 will make the move to ITN.

Lorraine recently had an op (Image: Lorraine Kelly/Instagram)

An insider said: “The devastation among the staff is palpable after the announcement. To say it blindsided them would be an understatement.

“There had been whispers going round for some time over a merger between ITV News and Good Morning Britain, but no indication that the Daytime shows would be affected.

“We still don’t know how many people are going to lose their jobs, but rumours around 50% of the entire staff from GMB, Lorraine and This Morning will be affected which is staggering. “All of the shows are produced by teams of super dedicated professionals, everyone is completely devastated.”

In terms of scheduling, This Morning has emerged unscathed and will remain in its 10am -12.30pm slot on weekdays. Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women, all made by ITV Studios, will move collectively to new studios within central London.

Presenter Lorraine, who last year celebrated 40 years in broadcasting and was awarded a special Bafta to mark the milestone, will now present her shorter show for five days a week, rather than four. Her regular stand-ins, Christine Lampard and Ranvir Singh, will provide holiday cover and will “remain as part of the ITV Daytime family”. Ranvir also hosts GMB while Christine does stints on Loose Women.

ITV media and entertainment managing director Kevin Lygo said that the aim was to save cash amid huge hikes in costs without losing any of the on-air talent. “Daytime is a really important part of what we do, and these scheduling and production changes will enable us to continue to deliver a schedule providing viewers with the news, debate and discussion they love from the presenters they know and trust, as well generating savings which will allow us to reinvest across the programme budget in other genres.

“These changes also allow us to consolidate our news operations and expand our national, international and regional news output and to build upon our proud history of trusted journalism at a time when our viewers need accurate, unbiased news coverage more than ever.”

In a statement, ITV said the money saved would help to fund dramas like Mr Bates vs The Post Office and coverage of the biggest sporting events like next year’s football World Cup, plus reality and entertainment shows.

Lygo said that the changes would future-proof the much-loved daytime brands for decades to come. “Daytime has been a core element of ITV’s schedule for over 40 years and these changes will set ITV up to continue to bring viewers award winning news, views and discussion as we enter our eighth decade.”

The changes will form part of a renewed five-year deal between ITV and ITN national, international, London and digital news provision.

They come just a few months after a major overhaul of the channel’s soaps, which will each move to a five-nights a week scheduling model from January.

In February it was announced that both Coronation Street and Emmerdale will be reduced by an hour a week to create a soap “power hour” every weeknight – but also to save money. One year ago, ITV CEO Carolyn McCall announced 200 redundancies would be made from departments including commercial, technology and operations.

ITV’s budget for programme-making has been steady at around £1.3bn for a number of years.

A cabin crew member has shared details of a handwritten note she received from Meghan Markle, which featured a surprise message and plug to her brand.

American Airlines air stewardess Nina Vida was working when the Duchess of Sussex joined her flight, and an interaction quickly sparked as the flight crew penned her a friendly welcome message. In a TikTok video, Nina, who is based in New York, described how the team welcomed Meghan aboard with a note that read: “It’s a pleasure serving you; we love you real bad.”

As a fan of personal correspondence, Meghan responded with her own handwritten note, tagging her signature alongside a bit of promotion for her new lifestyle brand, As Ever. The recently launched company is Meghan’s latest venture, and was previouly named American Riviera Orchard until she came up against copyright issues.

In the video, Nina proudly displayed Meghan’s reply. It read: “Dear AA girlies, thank you for the love, hospitality and handwritten note – you know me well. All love right back to you. As ever, Meghan.”

While the royal couple commonly travel by private jet, there have been instances where they opt for public airlines. Notably, Prince Harry jetted off on American Airlines for King Charles’ Coronation in May 2023, the Express reports. Meghan’s exact date on the American Airlines flight remains a mystery, but she was spotted in New York not long ago for the prestigious Time 100 summit.

In the TikTok video, Nina couldn’t help but rave about Meghan’s handwritten note, although she confessed it was a struggle to decipher the stylish script. Enthusiastically, she said: “This handwriting is giving rich! It’s giving expensive, it’s giving princess.”

Nina often shares insights into her life as a cabin crew member on TikTok and boasts over 1K followers. Viewers were delighted to see the video about Meghan’s interaction and one commented: “Thank you for sharing – Meghan is awesome!”

Another said: “She’s so sweet and authentic. Meghan is pure elegance and kindness.” A third noted: “Ahh lovely story. Always such nice feedback from people who meet her in person. Meghan is a true princess.”

One particularly captivated fan exclaimed: “That note!!! Laminate it, frame it, put it in a lock box at the bank! I would cherish it forever!”.

Nina also shared that Meghan made a point to compliment her nail art, despite the captain’s remarks that they were somewhat “intense”. The stewardess has in the past mentioned serving celebrities such as Ariana Grande during flights.

Last week, Meghan shared an adorable array of images on her Instagram in celebration of her seventh anniversary with Harry, showcasing yet again her renowned calligraphic talent in the date captions.

Denise Welch reveals truth behind Loose Women’s ‘arguments’ – ‘Drives me mad’

EXCLUSIVE: Denise Welch has shared the truth behind ongoing claims she and her Loose Women co-stars are often caught up in arguments behind the scenes of the ITV show

Denise Welch has revealed the truth behind claims of a feud on Loose Women. The actress and broadcaster often appears on the ITV1 panel show alongside the likes of co-stars Janet Street-Porter, Jane Moore, Nadia Sawlha, Coleen Nolan, Ruth Langsford and GK Barry.

But each week, the show is plagued by speculation that the women are at loggerheads with one another following disagreements on the panel. The panel are often locked in disagreements on certain topics, with Denise, 66, often furiously defending Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle when the Sussexes are criticised on the show.

Now, the Waterloo Road star has revealed what actually happens behind the scenes and responded to the claims that the panel is at war. “It was incredibly unique and original,” she said of the programme, adding: “It’s all power to it that 25 years later we’re still going. I’ve been a part of it for about 23 years.

“When it first started, it was never a staple of the daytime schedules like it is now. It was on for three months, off for three months. Then another programme came along and notched it down to half an hour, which the racing still does – but we’ve got our place.”

Speaking exclusively to the Mirror, Denise added: “I’m very proud to be part of it – and not just because it’s a female-led show, because our age range ranges from 25 to 85! We’ve got GK Barry at 25 and Gloria [Hunniford] at 85. What other show not only employs older women reveres and celebrates the voices of older women.

“There’s life in these old girls yet. We don’t care what Doris from Darlington on Twitter says. We’ve worn every T-shirt, we’ve rewashed it and re-ironed it and put it back in the drawer. Older women’s voices are so important, and I’m very proud to be a part of a show that continues to celebrate that.”

Denise explained that social media trolls often claim that she and Nadia make the programme about themselves(Image: ITV)

On the programme, Denise and the panel are not afraid to touch on heavy news but always find a balance, later discussing “something light and fluffy.” She explained: “There’s nothing really that we avoid talking about,” adding that the show is different to others as other presenter-led shows see the presenter remaining impartial. Denise used co-star Charlene White as an example, who has to be impartial while presenting on ITV News.

“Our show is anecdotal and opinion-led,” she said. When questioned about viewers nitpicking herself and Nadia, Denise joked it is “about us” as they sign up to voice their opinions on the show, but admits it can be “hard” to put themselves out there as they know people will instantly have an opinion.

She added: “Depending on what we are, we are four very opinionated strong women. Just because we disagree, doesn’t mean we’re in a feud, which drives me mad.” Speaking about any type of feud which may have happened over the years, Denise revealed: “I have never and I will honestly say, hand on heart, in 23 years, I have never had an argument with anybody on that show.”

“If we didn’t have discussions and debate, it would be a very boring show,” she explained. Denise added: “There’s got to be dissension in the ranks, and sometimes, if there’s a topic that I’m not very passionate about, I will often, for the fun of it, play devil’s advocate. Because I feel it needs that sometimes needs to spur debates. We all get on absolutely fine, and we all see each other. Some people are closer than others. We all have geographic boundaries as well; we don’t all just live in London all of the timeI’m very proud to be a part of it!”

The actress who has also appeared in Coronation Street recently revealed that going sober 13 years ago was the “best decision” she and her husband, Lincoln Townley, had ever made. But after ditching alcohol, which she says was a “momentous point” in their lives, she later realised that she realised she may be swapping alcohol for food addiction due to an “addictive personality”. Denise revealed to the Mirror: “I very quickly realised that I was in danger of swapping alcohol addiction for food addiction.”

The star went on to say that “all of the bad things” in her life had kept her slim without her trying – including alcohol and depression. “That stops me from eating when I’m having an episode, suddenly, the alcohol and the bad things were taken out of my life, I realised I was starting to replace alcohol with food,” she said.

Denise said that she found herself “bingeing” and eating “way past” her full point, but it was never enough. She revealed she had started secretly eating, heading to the kitchen for food, and hiding chocolate. But she later realised that she didn’t need to hide it from her family, as her husband, Lincoln and youngest, Hotel Portofino star son, Louis, didn’t care.

“Nobody cared – so why am I doing everything so secretly? Guiltily, like I used to drink,” she said. After Lincoln proposed to Denise, she realised she had put on two stones in “not a very long time”. She explained that while she realised some people often look to lose a significant amount of weight, the two stone to her was a great deal.

Explaining, she said: “It wasn’t just how aesthetically it made me look, because I carry a lot of my weight on my face, so it becomes very noticeable. I’m on television several times a week – and that’s not a very flattering medium, so I was aware of it there but it was also the fact I’ve never been super fit but I was aware it was impairing my breathing.”

But the realisation hit Denise while she was appearing in a theatre production in Kingston with Keith Allen. Recalling the moment, she said: “I tripped and fell on Kingston Bridge. I went to see this knee doctor and he said, ‘You’ve got osteoarthritis and you need to lose weight’. I thought ‘my God, I didn’t think I had that much of a problem’, the breathing and stuff was due to a sleep apnea problem that wasn’t caused by, but isn’t helped by, weight gain.”

Denise praised the programme for the diverse range of ages on the show, with the youngest, GK Barry, being 25 and Gloria Hunniford being 85(Image: ITV)

After discussing her plans to lose weight for her wedding, she was “inundated” by diet firms to front their campaigns. But it was a decision she made with Lincoln, who was also keen on losing weight. They decided on LighterLife as it was the only weight loss company which spoke about changing the relationship with food.

The company, for which Denise is an ambassador, uses mental approaches, such as CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), group therapy or mentorship, and physical approaches. At first, she admits being wary about going to the group therapy as she didn’t want “all eyes” to be on her, but it was Lincoln who encouraged her to go along.

“I’m ever so grateful that I did, that first meeting changed my life,” she exclaimed. Although she says she would have lost weight in other ways, she admits she may have “piled it back on”, due to being a human whose weight fluctuates throughout life. “I always know that I’ve got the tools, the CBT tools to get me back on board,” she said, explaining that there are four processes that she can put in place.

Denise, an ambassador for LighterLife also opened up about her major life change after shedding two stone(Image: LighterLife)

After losing the two stone, Denise used her CBT skills to pack smoking in, something she took up when she was 16. She explained: “By applying the same CBT techniques to cigarettes, and that helped me, come off those as well. So they are treasured tools.” Denise has been a LighterLife ambassador for 13 years and still checks in with her doctor, Dr Kelly. “I have seen LighterLife and the mentors not only change people’s lives, but people’s lives,” she explained before adding: “I am a fervent believer that this works.”

Although Denise admits she has no medical experience, she believes that LighterLife does work, having seen firsthand how thousands of people have benefited from it. She often carries some of the LighterLife food around with her due to her hectic work schedule, with her favourite being the porridge and salted caramel chocolate bars. “I would say to give it a try and the help of working with these trained mentors who are there for you is life changing, it’s an incredible, supportive community,” she explained.

Meanwhile, Denise’s doctor, Dr Kelly, shed light on the rising topic of diets on social media. She said: “The problem with social media weight loss trends is that often they’re not nutritionally complete, not effective nor sustainable, and often they can be downright dangerous.

“Alongside a nutritious, evidence-based, clinically effective weight loss plan, LighterLife helps you gain the tools required to silence that ‘food noise’ and successfully manage your weight in the longer term.” Dr Kelly went on to explain that LighterLife’s diet plan has used an “evidence-based solution”, explaining: “Unless you engage with a programme which is designed to support both the physical and the psychological changes needed to help you better manage your weight, which includes diet and tools to address ‘food noise’ then you are far less likely to be successful.”
