Was It Really Just an Accident? Diana’s Bodyguard Finally Speaks Out, Claiming There Were ‘Too Many Coincidences’ That Night – and What He Reveals Could Change Everything We Thought We Knew About Her Death

The Final Hours of Princess Diana: Love, Tragedy, and the Truth That Still Haunts the World

On the night of August 30, 1997, Paris hummed quietly beneath a canopy of stars. Inside the elegant Ritz Hotel, Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed sought a few hours of calm—one more attempt to slip past the relentless flash of cameras and whispers of gossip. But by the time the clock ticked past midnight, history was in motion. Their final car ride was not the escape they hoped for, but the beginning of a tragedy that would shake the world.

The black Mercedes S280 that carried Diana, Dodi, their bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones, and driver Henri Paul was meant to be discreet. But the paparazzi had already caught on. Paul—reportedly intoxicated and under the influence of medication—drove fast, trying to outrun the chase. They darted through Parisian streets, the engine roaring louder with every turn. Cameras clicked. Motorbikes followed. Just moments before the Alma tunnel, Henri Paul urged Rees-Jones to “put on your seatbelt.” It was a warning too late.

The crash was catastrophic. The car collided with a pillar inside the tunnel at nearly 60 mph. Dodi Fayed and Henri Paul died instantly. Diana, still alive but severely injured, was cradled by first responder Xavier Gourmelon, a firefighter haunted by her final moments. “She spoke to me,” he recalled, “and then she was gone.”

The world awoke to horror. The People’s Princess—admired for her warmth, her compassion, her grace—was gone. In a single night, grief crossed borders, creeds, and generations. London streets filled with mourners. Floral tributes choked the gates of Kensington Palace. Millions wept openly. But even as the world mourned, suspicion began to rise.

The Birth of a Question: Was It Just an Accident?

Almost immediately, speculation took root. How could such a high-profile figure, one so closely watched and adored, meet her end so suddenly and senselessly? Mohamed Al-Fayed, Dodi’s father, refused to believe it was a mere accident. He insisted Diana was murdered—her relationship with his son, a Muslim man, deemed unacceptable to the British establishment.

Al-Fayed’s claims sparked a storm. He believed the royal family and intelligence agencies conspired to end the romance and eliminate what they saw as a threat to the monarchy’s image. He argued that Diana was pregnant, and marriage to Dodi would connect the future King of England to a Muslim stepfather. Though no evidence confirmed this theory, it resonated with a public who distrusted the institutions they once revered.

Years later, Operation Paget—a comprehensive inquiry launched by the British Metropolitan Police—attempted to lay these suspicions to rest. After a three-year investigation involving over 300 witnesses, their conclusion was simple but heartbreaking: it was a tragic accident. Henri Paul’s reckless driving, compounded by high-speed pursuit from paparazzi and Diana’s lack of a seatbelt, sealed her fate.

Still, for many, the answers raised more questions.

    The Woman Behind the Title

To understand the world’s endless fascination with Diana’s final moments, one must remember the life she lived. Born Diana Spencer into British aristocracy, she was thrust into royal life at just 19 when she became engaged to Prince Charles. Their 1981 wedding, watched by 750 million people, felt like a fairy tale. But reality proved different.

Diana was vulnerable, struggling with bulimia, depression, and a deep sense of isolation within the royal family. She once admitted, “I felt like I was living someone else’s life.” Her famous 1995 interview with Martin Bashir pulled back the curtain on her pain: “There were three of us in this marriage,” she said, referencing Charles’s affair with Camilla Parker Bowles.

Her candidness shocked the world—and broke royal protocol. But it also endeared her further to the public. Diana was no longer just a princess. She was a woman battling heartache, showing resilience, and using her platform to highlight overlooked issues: AIDS awareness, landmine victims, and mental health.

After her divorce in 1996, she seemed to reclaim herself. Rumors swirled about romances, especially with Hasnat Khan, the reserved heart surgeon she reportedly loved deeply. But by the summer of 1997, she had moved on. Her final relationship with Dodi Fayed was still blossoming when fate intervened.

    Legacy in Mourning

Diana’s funeral on September 6, 1997, was watched by over 2 billion people. Elton John performed a reworked “Candle in the Wind,” and her brother, Earl Spencer, gave a eulogy that criticized both the press and the royal family. “She needed no royal title to continue to generate her particular brand of magic,” he said.

The monarchy’s delayed response sparked public outrage. The Queen, initially silent while mourning with her grandsons in Balmoral, eventually returned to London and delivered a heartfelt address. She praised Diana’s compassion and acknowledged the sorrow sweeping the nation.

Prince William and Prince Harry, just 15 and 12 at the time, walked behind their mother’s coffin with bowed heads. The world watched, breathless.

    A Princess Remembered

In the decades since her death, Diana’s legacy has only grown. Statues have been unveiled. Documentaries retell her story. Her sons, now adults, speak often of her influence—on their lives, on their sense of duty, and on how they parent their own children.

Harry, in particular, has criticized the media’s role in his mother’s death, describing the press as the “primary cause” of her fatal crash. Both he and William have vowed to protect her memory and ensure her humanitarian legacy endures.

Yet the question remains, whispered in streets and forums, books and films: What really happened that night? Despite investigations, reports, and formal conclusions, the doubts persist. Perhaps it’s because Diana meant so much to so many—too much to be taken by a random crash in a Paris tunnel.

    Conclusion: Light in the Darkness

Princess Diana’s life was filled with contradictions—royalty and rebellion, glamour and sorrow, attention and loneliness. In death, she became more than a princess. She became a symbol of compassion in a world that desperately needed it.

The truth may be difficult to separate from myth, but one thing is certain: Diana changed the world. Her legacy, unlike her life, will never be cut short. And the love she gave—to her sons, to the sick, to the voiceless—still echoes louder than the questions that remain.

‘Absolutely heartbroken’: Coleen Nolan lifts lid on behind-the-scenes chaos as Loose Women slashes team – fears show could collapse next

Loose Women veteran Coleen Nolan has opened up about the ‘devastating’ impact of the changes at ITV, saying many of the crew ‘have become family’ to her

Coleen says the uncertainty behind the scenes is hard to witness(Image: Ken McKay/ITV/REX/Shutterstock)

Loose Women’s Coleen Nolan has described the upcoming changes and cuts at ITV as “devastating” with staff members currently living in limbo. The channel recently announced a raft of changes to its daytime schedules, including slashing the daytime panel show down to 30 weeks a year and merging the teams working on Lorraine, Loose Women and This Morning.

Now Coleen, who celebrated 25 years on the show this year, has expressed her devastation and fears about what will become of the show’s behind-the-scenes staff once the changes come into force. “The crew have become family. I’ve watched them grow,” she said. “Some of our runners from back in the day are producers, married with kids. I’ve shared my life with them. They’re in limbo, not knowing what they’re going to do.”

Coleen has been on Loose Women since 2000(Image: Ken McKay/ITV/Shutterstock)

She continued, “Loose Women isn’t ending, which I’m so thankful for, but it’s changing. It’s going to be very different in the respect of the size of the crew, but it’s still running. Which it should be – there isn’t another show that celebrates and supports all women of every size, age, whatever. But it’s heartbreaking to see some of my colleagues not knowing what they’re going to do. Many of them have young families and mortgages.”

Sources previously told the Mirror there wouldn’t be any “radical changes” to the Loose Women panel, but there are expected to be a number of redundancies in the behind-the-scenes crew.

Lorraine Kelly’s daily show is also being cut to 30 minutes each day and to 30 weeks of the year, with Good Morning Britain running until 9.30am to fill the time. GMB will also be extended until 10am on the weeks Lorraine is off air entirely.

The show will no longer be on-air over the school summer holidays

Coleen, 60, joined the series in 2000, joining Jane Moore, Kaye Adams, Nadia Sawalha and Ruth Langsford, and told Mirror’s Notebook magazine she had never experienced anything like the current changes.

“You read about it all the time – a chain store’s shutting down and 300 people are affected,” she said. “You go, ‘Oh that’s awful. Anyway, what do you want for dinner?’, because it doesn’t directly affect you.

“I’ve never been so close to it. It’s made me realise how much this is happening across the whole country at the moment and it’s devastating.”

On announcing the changes, Kevin Lygo, Managing Director of ITV’s Media and Entertainment Division, said the channel’s daytime slate was “a really important part of what we do” and would “enable us to continue to deliver a schedule providing viewers with the news, debate and discussion they love from the presenters they and trust”.

Prince George dragged into school drama – Kate and William ‘exploring legal action’ amid public backlash

    Prince George is only 11-years-old

In a move to protect their family, Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly considering legal action against the new Prince George play.

Prince William and Kate Middleton have always been protective of their family’s safety and privacy. The couple share three children; Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven. While the kids have obviously been raised in the spotlight, William and Kate have tried to protect them as much as possible.

Safety fears are a huge talking point in the royal family, especially with William’s brother, Prince Harry. He has taken precautions to ensure his children don’t grow up in front of the cameras – until recently when they have began appearing on Meghan Markle’s social media. However, it seems William and Kate are now having to consider legal action after their son’s privacy has been breached big time.

    Prince George play

Canadian playwright Jordan Tannahill has created a shocking play involving Prince George as a grown-up. The play which is titled Prince [bleep] (also known as Prince F) imagines an 18-year-old George – nicknamed Tips – bringing his boyfriend home to meet his royal parents.

The show premiered back in June at Playwrights Horizons. George is played by British actor John McCrea, while his fictional boyfriend, Dev, is played by Mihir Kumar. The Prince and Princess of Wales are played by African-American actor K Todd Freeman and actress Rachel Crowl.

In the play there is even a reference to Dev being “another Meghan” showing that it is really based off royal life.

The Telegraph even reported that audience members must put their phones in lockable pouches to prevent anyone taking pictures or videos as the cast appear naked in sex scenes.

Since launching, the Prince George based play has received quite a lot of backlash. But it also seems like Prince William and Kate Middleton are ready to do something about it.

Prince William and Kate Middleton consider ‘legal action’

It has been reported that the Prince and Princess of Wales are consulting legal advisors as the Prince George play sparks global outrage.

According to a senior royal insider from The National Enquirer: “This isn’t freedom of expression. It is exploitation of a minor for shock value. He is a child. Leave him alone.”

Another source close to the royal family claimed they are not happy with the show, and are looking into their options.

The source said: “King Charles has been briefed. William and Catherine are extremely distressed. They are absolutely looking at their legal options. Enough is enough.

“There are clear lines when it comes to children – especially public figures who never asked for fame. This crosses every one of them.”

It’s not just royal insiders that are angry at the play, but also fans. The topic was discussed on Reddit, where many people felt that it was completely inappropriate.

One user wrote: “Interesting concept. Really grossed out that the playwright decided to use the basis of the main character on a real person. And one who is a minor no less. Feels wrong and is giving me the ick.”

Another added: “Yeah this is… not something I feel okay about. He is eleven.”

‘We didn’t see it coming’: Lisa Faulkner opens up on the tragic loss that pushed her into modelling at just 16

There’s no ‘getting over’ grief, she shared

Actress, presenter and TV chef Lisa Faulkner was just 16 years old when she lost her mum to throat cancer.

She was on her way to see her at the Royal Marsden Hospital when she was first scouted to be a model while waiting on the Tube station platform.

Lisa makes no bones about it: modelling saved her. It took her out of school, distracted her from wanting to “party”, and placed her among professionals.

A dozen or so years later, she married EastEnders star Chris Coghill. In the aftermath of that relationship, she experienced a “very dark time”, but she went on to marry John Torode and they have been happily together ever since.

Lisa Faulkner was 16 when her mum died

16 is a tough age to lose a parent, Lisa recalls. Her mum, Julie, was a legal secretary, but Lisa describes her as so much more.

She draws inspiration from her mum’s “charismatic personality and zest for life”. She was a “whirlwind, a firework, filling our house with good food, music, friends and laughter”, she wrote in the Mail in 2012. And losing her knocked her for six.

“You’re a teenager and want to go out,” she explained to the Metro that same year. “She’d been ill for a year and a half. We knew she was ill but we didn’t realise how serious it was.”

They were quite sheltered from it, she said, so when it happened it came as a real shock. The cancer had started out as something that looked like an ulcer under her mum’s tongue in 1987. At first, it baffled the family’s dentist. Then it spread to her throat and neck. Within two years, she had passed away.

“We didn’t think she was going to die,” she wrote in the Mail. She and her sister Victoria were at school when it happened.

“It was horrendous. Our dad, David, was incredible, and my sister and I became a team and faced everything in life together. We looked after Dad and each other and were determined to just carry on.”

She was on her way to visit her in hospital when she was scouted by a modelling agent

Starting out as a model probably saved her, she previously insisted. She wanted to go out partying as a means of escape, but being offered a modelling contract meant she had to sort herself out quickly.

A talent scout approached her while she was waiting on the Tube station platform for a train to take her to Royal Marsden Hospital to see her mum.

She describes losing a parent at a young age as an alienating experience, especially when there’s no one else at school who can relate to it.

However, kickstarting her modelling career “saved” her from having to go to school and “be surrounded by people who didn’t know what to say”.

To her colleagues, she could say simply that her mum had died. They needed no more explanation than that: the professionalism expected of everyone meant that personal lives were left at the door.

How losing her mum as a teenager ‘shaped’ Lisa Faulkner

Still, “there’s no getting over grief”, Lisa told Top Santé magazine in 2023, but she did realise she needed to “get on” with her own life. .

“You realise you need to get on with life, and having something completely new and different helped with that. What I took from my mum dying was an understanding that in life, you’ve got one chance. Even though she had been ill with cancer for a while, when she died I was so surprised.

“You just don’t think the end is going to happen. Losing her has completely shaped me. I didn’t want it to be something that defined me, but it has. It definitely made me think about how to live my life.”

Strictly Come Dancing Snubs Ex-Royal Butler Paul Burrell Amid Fears of Upsetting Queen Camilla

Queen Camilla has been open about her love for Strictly Come Dancing

Strictly Come Dancing bosses have reportedly ruled out former royal butler Paul Burrell from appearing on the hit BBC dance competition, over concerns it could jeopardise their relationship with Queen Camilla.

According to insiders, Paul, who once served as butler to the late Princess Diana, has been suggested as a potential contestant multiple times in recent years.

However, producers have allegedly decided against it, fearing that his inclusion could offend senior royals, particularly Camilla, who is known to be a devoted fan of the show.

Why Strictly Come Dancing ‘blocked Paul Burrell’ over Queen Camilla concern

“They know how much Queen Camilla loves the show and would love for her to appear in the audience,” a source told The Mirror. “But they fear that Paul’s involvement would scupper that relationship.”

Paul has publicly denied claims that he has profited from his royal connections.

However, his reputation as a royal insider, particularly in relation to Diana, is believed to be the reason behind the show’s cautious stance.

His multiple books, reality TV appearances, and interviews have often been criticised as self-serving by some royal fans and former Palace staff.

Meanwhile, Strictly’s connection to the royal family is well-established.

Queen Camilla has long expressed her love for the show, and even described herself as one of its “greatest fans”. The Queen consort reportedly watches the series religiously and has even become friendly with members of the Strictly cast.

Professional dancer Johannes Radebe spoke fondly of meeting Camilla during a Loose Women interview.

“She once told me, ‘We all watch it.’” He recalled. “I saw the responsibility she has on her shoulders, how she dedicated her time and was really listening to people. She went around and shook everyone’s hands. I really admire her.”

Queen Camilla’s relationship with Strictly Come Dancing explained

The Queen’s support for the show has gone beyond just watching.

She once hosted a tea party at Clarence House for the show’s dancers and judges, during which she danced with former pro Brendan Cole.

In 2020, she even appeared in a special pre-recorded message for the show’s finale. The series was won by comedian Bill Bailey and partner Oti Mabuse.

Even Strictly hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman have enjoyed a royal nod of approval. Both were honoured in King Charles’ 2025 Birthday Honours list.

Tess Daly’s husband, radio and TV presenter Vernon Kay, has also spoken about the Queen’s fondness for the show

“Camilla and Tess have a real friendship through it now. They don’t text, but messages come through mutual friends. When they see each other, the Queen is always asking: ‘Who’s your favourite?’ She wants to know the backstage gossip.” Vernon told The Sun.

“It’s crazy to think of the king and queen sat on the sofa with a brew watching your wife present Strictly.”

From Beckham Royalty to Gen Z Rebel: What’s Really Behind Brooklyn’s Sudden Distance From His Parents and Growing Tensions With Cruz & Romeo?

    “A sad new low”

Brooklyn Beckham is reportedly warring with brothers Romeo and Cruz, amid claims he’s “cut out” his parents from his life.

26-year-old Brooklyn, who is married to American actor Nicola Peltz, 30, has been embroiled in a reported family feud for some time now.

Brooklyn Beckham ‘blocked’ by Romeo and Cruz amid family feud

Yesterday (Friday, July 11), it was reported that Brooklyn and Nicola had unfollowed his brothers, Romeo, 22, and Cruz, 20, on Instagram.

However, it’s now being reported that this isn’t the case. It’s being claimed that Romeo and Cruz have, in fact, blocked the couple.

The move has reportedly “blindsided” Brooklyn and Nicola.

Speaking to The Sun, a source said: “Blocking or unfollowing someone on Instagram is like the Gen Z version of World War Three. It’s a sad new low.”

Brooklyn and Nicola have ‘cut off’ David and Victoria

    The source then continued.

“But the truth is, Brooklyn has cut out his parents, David and Victoria, from his life, and it’s the same with Romeo and Cruz. Even when the family have reached out to Brooklyn, they have been ignored,” they claimed.

“He’s not had contact for months, and it feels clear to them that he doesn’t want to make amends,” they then added.

It was also reported that Brooklyn hadn’t been aware that his brothers had blocked him until he’d read reports about it online.

By blocking them, it would appear as though Brooklyn and Nicola are no longer following Romeo and Cruz on Instagram.

It’s been reported that Brooklyn and Nicola have been left “confused” by the blockings.

Cruz later shared a screenshot of Justin Bieber’s new song, Walking Away, on his story, along with the caption “Yep”.

ED! has contacted David, Victoria, Brooklyn, Romeo, and Cruz’s representatives for comment.

Earlier this week, Brooklyn reached out to his sister, Harper, to send her a message on her 14th birthday.

The model shared a picture of himself, Harper, and Nicola on his story. Nicola also posted the same picture and caption on her story.

“Happy birthday Harper. We love u x,” it read.

The picture was taken September 2024, in Paris, when the family were in the French capital for Victoria Beckham’s SS25 Paris Fashion Week show.

“It’s natural to speculate how a teenager might feel during a family feud. A lack of acknowledgement from a sibling, like Brooklyn, would certainly be noticeable and could be upsetting, regardless of any ongoing issues,” PR expert and Director of Streamline PR, Joseph Hagan told ED.

‘I dropped like a stone, out cold’

Sue Cleaver previously shared a shocking incident from her time on set on Coronation Street.

The actress shot to fame playing Eileen Grimshaw on the ITV soap. In 2025, though, Sue – who is on a repeat of James Martin’s Saturday Morning today (July 12) – quit the show after 25 years – with her exit scenes airing in June.

And in her 2024 memoir, Loose Women panelist Sue recalled some behind-the-scenes antics from her soap days – including a time when she was knocked out cold by a co-star…

Sue Cleaver on filming fight scene on Coronation Street

Sue appeared on Coronation Street for 25 years as feisty Eileen. And over the years, it’s safe to say the character had her fair share of scraps in the street. But it turns out that one previous on-screen fight ended up with Sue being knocked out cold and rushed to hospital.

The I’m A Celebrity… star was filming an on-screen fight in 2012 with Judy Holt, who played Lesley, the wife of Eileen’s firefighter boyfriend Paul Kershaw. But things soon went awry – much to Sue’s shock.

I dropped like a stone, out cold.

“We had a stunt advisor and had spent some time practising our manoeuvres but unfortunately during a take Judy got a bit carried away and an upward punch made contact with my face,” Sue shared in her memoir, A Work In Progress.

The Loose Women star added: “I don’t remember anything else but apparently I dropped like a stone, out cold.”

Sue was then rushed to hospital to be checked over and fortunately she received the all-clear to return to Coronation Street.

“They used the sound of the real punch, so it wasn’t all for nothing!” she quipped.

Sue on why she quit Corrie

Sue’s exit from Coronation Street no doubt left plenty of soap fans gutted. In June, she revealed why she decided that it was the right time to leave the show.

She shared on Loose Women: “I’m now 61 and I feel I’m now at a stage in my life, like most mums we have responsibilities, we have other things we have to consider [and] we’re bringing up our families – and I’ve got to the stage, my son is grown up now, he’s 29, I have no responsibilities left and I want to do something new. I want this decade to be about me.

“I really want to empower other women. Society at this point wants us all to shuffle off, don’t they. Just go away quietly, ‘You’ve had your days.’

“No, this is my decade. I’m more excited about this decade, hopefully you know, as long as I remain well, that this is going to be the most exciting decade for me. I’m really excited.”

“She Chose Her Future Over the Pain: Katie Knowles’ Emotional Journey to Reclaim Her Life” The woman behind the TV star faced a hidden battle — and made a life-changing choice few talk about.

Katie bravely opened up on Instagram

Nick Knowles’ wife, Katie, 35, has revealed that she’d undergone a hysterectomy after years of “missing out on life” due to pain.

The businesswoman, who married Nick this year, shared the brave update on her Instagram yesterday (Friday, July 11).

Nick Knowles’ wife, Katie, shares hysterectomy operation news

Taking to Instagram yesterday, Katie shared a major life and health update with her 98.5k followers.

The mum-of-two shared some clips of herself in hospital pre- and post op in a short video.

“I’m 35 and I’ve just had a hysterectomy,” she captioned the brave post.

A hysterectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the womb. Women will no longer be able to get pregnant after the operation.

“I’ve lived with pcos, endometriosis and adenomyosis since Moses wore short pants. And no, it wasn’t ‘just a bad period.’ It was constant hospital trips. Multiple laparoscopies. Bleeding through clothes. Vomiting from the pain. Being curled up in bed, missing out on life,” she then continued.

“It was extreme bloating that made me look pregnant. It was migraines, stabbing pains in my legs, butt and stomach. It was chronic fatigue. It was hiding in loos, crying over another ruined day. It was my daughters terrified of getting their periods in case they end up like mummy,” she then wrote.

“Years of misdiagnosis & being fobbed off. Told to take painkillers. That it was “normal.” It wasn’t.”

Katie opens up on ‘missing out on life’

Katie, who tied the knot with Nick recently, continued.

“I’ve cried on bathroom floors. I’ve bled through clothes in public. I’ve had 3 surgeries. I’ve tried every pill, every patch, every hormone tweak. I’ve been put on a medical menopause just to get through uni,” she then wrote.

“And still… the pain came. Today I looked through my phone and realised I hardly have any photos of myself like this. Because I don’t recognise the woman I am when I’m in pain. Because I don’t want to remember the days where I was too sore, too tired, too bloated,” she then said.

“I didn’t want more children, my girls are everything. But that doesn’t mean this is easy. Because the choice has been taken from me. And that grief is real. It feels like something in me has changed, apart from being sans uterus. Right now, I’m in lots of pain. I’m bloated. I’m exhausted. I’m hot. I’m forgetful. I’m hot (see how that works on multiple levels). I feel raw and less like myself. Less like a woman, if I’m being really honest,” she then continued.

    Katie supported by her followers

She then continued, writing: “But this was a decision I made to take my life back. To stop surviving and start living again, & have days that aren’t defined by pain. This is hopefully the beginning of healing. The beginning of self-love, scars, stitches and all.

“And please, if you’ve made it this far, I ask gently: This is something deeply personal. If you’re tempted to leave a judgmental or flippant comment, I’m asking you to just scroll on. There is a real person behind this post.”

Katie’s followers were quick to show their support.

“Been there, done it and got the scars! And it’s hands down the best thing I ever did!!! If you need anything tell the hubby to give you my number..it’s a journey but it’s so good the other side of it,” EastEnders star Rita Simons wrote.

“Sending you so much love, take lots and lots of rest,” another follower said.

“You will never look back, feel better soon angel and you will be able to start to live your life without pain and suffering,” a third added.

Nick also showed his support, sharing Katie’s post on his Instagram. “My wife has chosen to share her situation because she took great comfort from seeing other people posting about this.”

Princess Kate makes return to Wimbledon

Princess Kate has made her first appearance at Wimbledon 2025 today.

The elegant Princess of Wales was the epitome of regal glamour as she sported a white belted jacket and pleated skirt, complemented by her trusty bow accessory.

The Princess hasn’t been seen without her distinctive bow pin whilst attending the tennis championships since 2017.

Ahead of the final, the princess met the winner of the ladies’ wheelchair final, Wang Ziying.

Accompanied by All England Club chairwoman Deborah Jevans, Kate met 12-year-old Sophie Kneen, performer of the coin toss at the ladies’ final.

Kate also met with eight-year-old Lydia Lowe, who did the same at the ladies’ wheelchair final.

The Princess of Wales, who could be seen carrying an off white, woven handbag at the time, also spoke with Jefferson Iweh, a ticket sales operator.

Kate also met Bob Flint, an honorary steward and Wimbledon foundation host Shaniah Williams.

Kate has been a regular at Wimbledon since her marriage to William in 2011 – rarely missing the famous sporting event ever since.

Unsurprisingly, the princess was met with a moving standing ovation from 15,000 fans inside Centre Court as she entered the royal box to claim her coveted seat.

Kate also greeted former Wimbledon champ Martina Navratilova in the royal box, before shaking hands with icon of the sport, Billie Jean King, who curtsied to her.

A slew of famous faces were spotted in the royal box today. Famous names included Adam Peaty and Holly Ramsay, Stanley Tucci, Greta Gerwig, Mo Farah and Sam Mendes.

Of course, Kate radiated beauty and grace in her timeless ensemble, expertly accessorised with her famous purple and green bow.

Kate’s quirky accessory is a nod to the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

The club’s colours have been green and purple since 1909.

The princess is known to be a keen lover of tennis.

She previously told Sue Barker on a 2017 BBC documentary: “I have watched Wimbledon, that was very much part of my growing up. It’s such a quintessential part of the English summer. And I think it really inspires youngsters, myself.

“It inspired me when I was younger to get involved in the game. It hasn’t changed either. I think that’s what’s so wonderful.”

  • As his future with Mercedes remains in limbo, Russell makes significant progress towards joining a top-tier F1 team with a £2.7bn valuation.

As his future with Mercedes remains in limbo, Russell makes significant progress towards joining a top-tier F1 team with a £2.7bn valuation.

Photo by Kym Illman/Getty ImagesGeorge Russell has thrived after he replaced Lewis Hamilton as Mercedes’ team leader this year, yet the Briton currently faces being out of contract after the 2025 F1 season.

Hamilton switching to Ferrari at the start of this term opened the door for Russell to step up and lead Mercedes alongside rookie teammate, Andrea Kimi Antonelli. But even scoring 147 of the Silver Arrows’ 210 points so far this season has not been enough to merit fresh terms.

The 27-year-old is also the only non-McLaren or Red Bull driver to score a pole position or a Grand Prix win this year. Russell won the Canadian Grand Prix from pole position in June for one of his five podiums, and Mercedes’ six, across the first 12 rounds of the 2025 F1 season.

Russell last received a new contract from Mercedes back in August 2023 when they tied him up through the 2025 F1 season. It is the Briton’s priority to stay in Brackley beyond this year, and Russell has told rival teams that he plans to stay at Mercedes having drawn approaches.

Red Bull sacking Christian Horner has cleared a ‘hurdle’ to sign Mercedes’ George Russell

Yet with Mercedes desperate to sign Max Verstappen as the Silver Arrows question if Russell and Antonelli can fill Hamilton’s commercial void, the King’s Lynn native continues to wait to get a new deal. Russell wonders if Toto Wolff will give him a new contract beyond 2025, too.

Verstappen has a contract at Red Bull through the 2028 season, but his deal also features an array of release clauses that could free him after this year. Even Red Bull sacking team boss Christian Horner might not be enough to tempt Verstappen to stay amid Mercedes’ interest.

But Fox Sports reports that by sacking Horner, the ‘hurdle’ that could have prevented Russell from replacing Verstappen at Red Bull is now ‘clear’. The Briton and the Dutchman switching seats ‘cannot be discounted’, with the risk of the ‘animosity’ Horner helped to create eased.

It is, however, up for debate if Russell will find a move to Milton Keynes appealing, given the concerns that Red Bull will have one of the worst engines in 2026. Mercedes are expected to have the best 2026 rules engine and Red Bull are building their own engine for the first time.

The news of Red Bull sacking Horner from his role as their team principal and CEO also came amid reports that Russell and Mercedes have hit an impasse in their contract negotiations. It is said that the Briton is reluctant to agree to the length of the deal the Silver Arrows desire.

Russell wants more long-term security than the likely one-plus-one-year deal that Mercedes CEO and team principal Wolff is prepared to award him, knowing that Verstappen’s Red Bull release clause is more accessible in 2026 than 2025 – which might make signing him easier.

Russell can also help Verstappen to trigger his release clause at the £2.7bn-valued Red Bull F1 team by pushing him out of the top three of the F1 drivers’ championship by the summer break. Only 18 points split the pair in third and fourth place ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix.
