Footballer is ‘struggling with a throat condition he has had for a while’

Paul Gascoigne sparked concern after it was reported he had been rushed to hospital on Friday night (July 18).

Footballing legend Gazza, 58, was taken into intensive care before being moved to an acute medical unit, where his condition is now stable.

Last night (July 21), Paul’s management team shared an update and revealed what caused the star to be hospitalised.

Paul Gascoigne rushed to hospital

On Friday, Paul was found semi-conscious in the bedroom of his home in Poole, Dorset, by a pal. The star, who was capped for England 57 times, was taken to hospital, where he was admitted into intensive care.

At the time, it was unclear why the former Spurs, Newcastle and Everton star was admitted to hospital. But he was said to be recovering. He thanked fans via his pal, Steve Foster, who was the one to find him on Friday.

Steve said Gazza would “like to thank everyone for the support he’s received so far from so many old friends who wish him well and want to see him back to his best”.

The Sun has reported that Steve, who is also Gazza’s driver and personal assistant, has said: “Paul is in hospital, which is the best possible place for him to be right now.”

It was been reported that Paul’s daughter, Bianca, 38, his two sisters, and footy pals, including Vinnie Jones and Paul Merson, were being kept up to date with his condition.

Fans concerned for Gazza’s wellbeing

Upon hearing the news, fans of the star took to social media to send him their support.

“Sending my best wishes to Gazza and wish him a speedy recovery,” one fan tweeted. “Sending love to Paul Gascoigne, who has been in hospital after collapsing at home. Our thoughts are with you, Gazza!” another said.

“My hero growing up and hope he pulls through. We are all with you Gazza,” a third added. “Sending best wishes for a speedy recovery to Paul Gascoigne,” another wrote.

Paul Gascoigne statement shared

Yesterday afternoon, the Mirror reported that Paul had shared a health update via pals. The paper claims he told a pal: “I’m fine.”

“He has told friends that he is fine and was going to give an update later today,” said a source close to the star.

However, they then shared: “He has been doing well recently so this was an unexpected setback. He had a full three months without alcohol over the summer while he was doing various speaking engagements and looked really well.”

Last night, his management team shared a statement. They revealed that he is now recovering at home. They also shared that Paul was admitted to hospital on Friday night after he was found to be struggling with a throat condition.

He spent the weekend under observation after being stabilised, before returning home on Monday.

The statement read: “Paul voluntarily went into A&E on Friday after struggling with a throat condition he has had for a while. He is already back home and doing well.”

However, his friend Steve, who took him to hospital, said that the footballer is “still very poorly”.

Alcohol battle

The star’s battles with alcohol addiction and his mental health have been well documented over the years. And he has admitting to falling off the wagon in the past.

Speaking to The Mirror, he said back in May: “I feel better now than I have in years. I hope I am at a point that I can look back over everything I’ve gone through with a different, more positive perspective.”

The future king turns 12 today

Prince George is celebrating his 12th birthday today, and a new photo has been released to mark the occasion.

The eldest child of the Prince and Princess of Wales turns 12 on July 22. Prince William and his wife Kate welcomed their firstborn in 2013.

A photo shared to the Prince and Princess of Wales’ Instagram account showed George smiling at the camera, wearing a checked shirt and fleece gilet, as he had his arms crossed over a wooden fence.

The post read: “Happy 12th Birthday to Prince George!”

Where was Prince George born?

Prince George was born on July 22, 2013, at 4.24 pm in the private Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in London. This is the same place his siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, were later born.

The next day, the newborn prince made his public debut on the hospital steps, wrapped in a white merino wool shawl and cradled in his mother’s arms.

George currently attends Lambrook School in Berkshire, alongside his siblings Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

The school educates students up to the age of 13, meaning George is expected to finish there in summer of 2026.

It is widely speculated that he will then go on to attend Eton College, following in the footsteps of his father and uncle, Prince Harry. The historic boarding school is just a short drive from the family’s home at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor.

What will Prince George’s royal role look like?

As a future king, Prince George is expected to take on more responsibilities as he grows older.

Experts believe he will receive support from his siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, in the same way King Charles has been supported by his siblings, Princess Anne and Prince Edward.

George has gradually taken on a more public-facing role in recent years.

Just this year, he joined his parents at key royal events such as Trooping the Colour, Wimbledon, and VE Day.

His parents have gently prepared the young prince for his future role. However, they still ensure that he enjoys a relatively normal childhood out of the spotlight.

If he follows in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, Prince George will become the 43rd monarch.

Ed Balls under fire from Good Morning Britain viewers

Today’s edition of GMB saw Kate Garraway and Ed welcome Tory politician Michael Gove onto the show to discuss some the day’s biggest news and political stories.

During the segment, they discussed the current news surrounding small boats and how there are plans to crack down on people smugglers, as well as Nigel Farage’s latest remarks about his plans if he gets into power.

However, some viewers were not happy, arguing that due to Ed’s wife, Yvette Cooper, being Home Secretary, Ed shouldn’t be involved in political interviews. Cooper took up the role in July of last year following the General Election.

Some viewers took to social media to complain about Ed’s involvement in the discussion, with some even going so far as to argue that Ofcom could be investigating.

“Ed Balls ‘grilling’ a Labour MP when you’re wife’s the Home Secretary should be investigated by OFCOM. It’s not right…,” one viewer tweeted this morning.

“Smug Ed Balls, whose wife is chief of command for protecting the public in this country, should pipe down,” another argued.

“I simply cannot stand Ed Balls; he is so smug and has a clear conflict of interest because his wife is a cabinet member (and not a good one either). His smug smile is so annoying!” a third wrote.

Viewers hit out

“Total embarrassment listening to #GMB this morning nearly every story mentioned by the panel is the actual responsibility of the Home Secretary…who just happens to be ‘Mrs Ed Balls’. The pointlessness of this ‘chat’ is truly appalling,” another said.

Ed and GMB came under fire in August of last year when the presenter interviewed his wife on the show. Yvette was on the show to discuss Labour’s response to riots that rocked the country following the Southport attacks.

The hit ITV morning programme was hit with 16,000 Ofcom complaints in the aftermath. However, Ofcom ruled that they would not be pursuing the complaints as they deemed the interview to be “fair, balanced and impartial”.

“So would we do it again? No. Was it impartial, fair, and balanced? And did they behave professionally? Yes. I mean, he asked her a few questions, but I think Kate [Garraway] was leading on that, wasn’t she? And so I do think you’ve just got to say, if Ofcom have looked at it and they’re not pursuing this any further because they thought it was fair, balanced and impartial, you know, that’s it,” Dame Carolyn McCall, the Chief Executive of ITV, said last September.

ITV News presenter Trevor Green sadly died on his 74th birthday, his wife has announced.

The presenter spent almost 20 years at the broadcaster before leaving in 2006.

ITV News presenter Trevor Green dies aged 74

Long-time viewers of ITV will remember Trevor from his almost 20-year stint presenting regional TV news flagship Granada Reports.

On July 14, his devastated wife, Joanna, shared the sad news that he’d died. Piccadilly Radio shared Joanna’s message, which had been shared with Trevor’s radio colleague, Chris Moore, via its Facebook page.

“Trevor slipped away peacefully this morning in the early hours of what is today his 74th Birthday. He developed breathing problems last evening,” she wrote.

“I’ve lost my soulmate and feel rather at sea. But thankfully, he’s now out of pain and we’ve been blessed with lots of time in recent weeks and months to reminisce and shape his wishes,” she then continued.

“Sorry, we couldn’t fix another visit. Taking quiet me-time out today to reflect on our 44 years together. Will miss him like mad. Let you know plans in due course,” she then added.

Trevor’s life and career

Born in 1951, Trevor began his media career in the 1980s, spending almost two decades at ITV working on Granada Reports. In 2006, he left the show to focus on running his own Vision Impact media consultancy. This was alongside his TV and radio career.

He also spent several years acting as a media relations officer for his local Cheshire East council.

ITV paid tribute to Trevor during a news report on his death.

“Trevor was a roving reporter and main programme presenter for Granada Reports for 19 years, covering many of our region’s major stories – but also bringing a special humour to lighten news,” they said.

“‘Lord Green’, as he was affectionately known, will be remembered by everyone who worked with him as a true gentleman and one of the leading regional broadcasters of his generation,” they then added.

Chris Moore of Piccadilly Radio also paid tribute: “Trevor and Jo fought his illness together in a way which I can only describe as humbling. I would not be able to come anywhere close. He was one of the nicest, kindest, sharpest, wittiest, coolest and most professional people I ever had the honour to work, and that’s saying something.

“His marriage to Jo was something special too. She is a wonderful person who gave him everything for their whole life together. A David Vear signing, he was part of a golden generation in a golden era of radio. Those who knew him will have their own stories and memories. Suffice to say, we’ve list another gem…. God speed my friend.”

“Only just saw news of this, Trevor was a consummate professional and the nicest, coolest guy, very fond memories of working with him at Piccadilly Radio, he deserved longer on this earth. RIP,” one person wrote on Facebook.

“This is heartbreaking! I loved being on shift with Trevor in those early years – he was a wonderful journalist, with such a warm heart. Why do happy memories lead to sad days?” another said.

Charles revealed his diagnosis last February

King Charles has issued an update on his health as he continues to undergo treatment for cancer.

King Charles was diagnosed with cancer last year. Few updates have been issued on the monarch as he continues his royal duties.

2024 was a difficult time for the royal family as they learnt of King Charles’ cancer diagnosis. Last year also saw Kate, Princess of Wales, deal with her own cancer journey. In January 2025, Kate announced she was in remission.

While Charles, 76, has kept a lot of his cancer journey private, it seems he is doing quite well.

King Charles issues cancer update

For a brief period in early 2024, King Charles stepped back from his public royal duties. But that didn’t last too long. Since he came back to work, he has been showing no signs of slowing down.

During a visit to Newmarket, the heart of the horse racing industry, on July 22 with Queen Camilla, Charles reportedly discussed his health.

Lee Harman, 54, from Bury St Edmunds, met the king. As reported by the Mirror, he said of their meeting: “I asked him how he was, and he said he was feeling a lot better now and that it was ‘just one of those things.’”

Lee told the king of his own cancer battle. He said: “He asked me how I was, and I said ‘I’m all good.’ I got the all clear from cancer last year.”

Charles trying to live ‘as normal as possible’

In May, a royal aide reportedly shared details on Charles’ health.

According to PA Media, the royal aide said that Charles was “managing” his cancer and is trying to live “as normal as possible”.

They said: “The thing you learn about this illness is that you just manage it. And that’s what he does. As long as you do what the doctors say, just live your life as normal as possible. And that’s exactly what he is doing.”

One thing that seems to be helping Charles cope with it is his positive mindset, and that he feels “incredibly fit”. But the news hasn’t affected his spirit, as it’s believed he is “dealing with it incredibly well”.

The royal aide continued: “As everybody knows, he is driven by duty, so he just gets on with it.”

As long as you do what the doctors say, just live your life as normal as possible.

The king is known for prioritising his duties as monarch. But it’s something that has reportedly left his wife Queen Camilla worried.

Last year, Camilla revealed that her husband “won’t slow down and won’t do what he’s told”. In April, during their state visit to Italy, she told the BBC: “I think he loves his work and it keeps him going.

“And I think it’s wonderful, you know, if you’ve been ill and you are recovering, you’re getting better and now he wants to do more and more and more. That’s the problem.”

What cancer does King Charles have?

While King Charles announced his cancer diagnosis in February 2024, we still do not know what type of cancer it is.

In a statement at the time, it was explained that the cancer was detected during a hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement. However, it is believed his cancer is not prostate related.

The palace statement added: “His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.”

Katie sets the record straight

In the latest Katie Price news, the former glamour model has shut down reports that she has split from boyfriend JJ Slater. The news arrives months after she was allegedly preparing to split from him after he was recently hospitalised following her birthday.

The iconic reality star began dating former MAFS contestant JJ in early 2024. While headlines in May suggested the pair had split, Katie’s reps denied this was true.

However, in a new update, the mum-of-five has continued to state this is not true.

During an appearance on the recent We Need To Talk podcast, Katie told host Paul C Brunson she obtained donor eggs last year before meeting JJ.

“I had IVF and it failed because basically my eggs are too old. I gave it a go even though the doctors said you’ve got a 1% chance of that working, but I just said I might be that 1%. I’m doing it! I went through all of it and it didn’t work,” she shared.

Due to starting the process before forming a new relationship, Katie declared she is happy to have the baby without JJ.

She has shared three pictures from their wedding – which happened 11 days before her husband died.

Rute, also 28, shared a close-up picture of the couple’s hands, holding each other tightly. She also shared two pictures of the couple enjoying their first dance as husband and wife.

Legendary singer Sir Tom Jones has sparked concern after cancelling a show due to his health, just hours before he was due to take to the stage.

The Welsh star, 85, was meant to perform in Bremen, Germany, when he pulled out last minute today (Tuesday, July 22).

Taking to Instagram, The Voice judge Tom shared the disappointing news with his 725k followers.

In a statement, the father-of-two said: “Hello to all the fans in Bremen. Unfortunately, I must postpone my show this evening, as I’ve contracted an upper respiratory infection that needs treatment and rest.

“I know this is really disappointing and will cause inconvenience to you all, and I’m very sorry about that,” he then continued.

Last year, during an interview with The Mirror, Tom opened up about his health.

“Well, thank God my voice is still working. I am 83 years old. I mean I can’t believe it, but it is true,” he said.

The death of Ozzy Osbourne has been announced by his family. He was 76.

The Black Sabbath frontman had performed from a throne on stage at Villa Park in Birmingham less than three weeks ago.

Although her own heart was breaking, she also shared condolences for The Cosby Show star Malcolm-Jamal Warner, whose death was also announced today.

The rocker was able to bid an emotional farewell to his fans on stage this month.

It came as he reunited with his original Black Sabbath bandmates Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward for the first time since 2005.

“You’ve no idea how I feel – thank you from the bottom of my heart,” he told the crowd as he closed his final concert.

Before performing his encore, he told the crowd: “It’s the last song ever. Your support has enabled us to live an amazing lifestyle, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

A message on screen then read: “Thank you for everything, you guys are [bleep]ing amazing. Birmingham Forever,” before the sky lit up with fireworks.

The night was made even more special as Ozzy’s daughter Kelly got engaged after her now fiancé Sid Wilson got down on one knee backstage. Although Ozzy did tell him: “You’re not marrying my daughter!”

His family and health issues

Ozzy was married to wife Sharon for 43 years. Together, they welcomed three children – Kelly, Jack and Aimee.

He also had two children with his first wife, Thelma Riley. The couple welcomed two children – Louis and Jessica – and Ozzy also adopted Thelma’s son Elliot.

Ozzy’s cause of death hasn’t been revealed. He has struggled with his health in recent years, though. He went public with his Parkinson’s diagnosis in 2020.

Tributes to Ozzy Osbourne

Tributes have poured in.

“I can’t believe it,” said one fan. “A few weeks ago he was giving his final concert. I hope you came home, Ozzy.”

“Farewell to Ozzy Osbourne. The Prince of Darkness takes his final bow. From Black Sabbath to Crazy Train, your music will echo forever,” another said.

“The Prince of Darkness has left the stage. Rest easy Ozzy!” said another.

Mercedes will have to decide between George Russell and Andrea Kimi Antonelli to partner Max Verstappen if they complete his signing for the 2026 F1 season.

Max Verstappen‘s future at Red Bull has been thrown into question in recent months, with the four-time world champion seemingly unhappy at the team he has spent the majority of his career with.

Mercedes have emerged as the front-runners to sign the Dutchman, meaning one of either George Russell or Andrea Kimi Antonelli will have to vacate their seat to accommodate Verstappen.

One assumption that has been made is that Mercedes would keep Antonelli over Russell, due to the Brit being the more senior driver as well as his tense history with Verstappen playing a factor.

However, Guenther Steiner believes Mercedes will be making a crucial error if Russell is shown the door. The former Haas team principal stated that they can’t be serious about winning a championship if they get rid of the driver who has won a race for them this season.

Mercedes loaning out Kimi Antonelli could damage their relationship in the long term

If Mercedes do end up pulling the trigger on getting Verstappen’s signature for 2026, Toto Wolff could look at sending Kimi Antonelli to Alpine, whilst still keeping him on the books in Brackley through a loan agreement.

Speaking on the RacingNews365 podcast, journalist Sam Coop said, “I don’t think anyone’s saying that Kimi is close to George or will be on George’s level by next year. But what damage would moving Kimi out on loan do to that relationship?

“A lot depends on the characteristics of Kimi and the people around him as to how they preserve that relationship and how Mercedes and Toto are able to say, ‘This is for development purposes; we actually think this will be beneficial for you in the long run’.

“Go 10 years back, say Max is put into that Mercedes alongside Nico or Lewis, and after a year, they go, actually, we’re going to move you out to Williams or whoever.

“I can’t imagine the Verstappen camp being like, ‘Yeah, cool. No worries. All good.’ I think it would have severed that relationship. I think it would have been really detrimental to it.

Mercedes will have to decide between keeping George Russell or Kimi Antonelli

Kimi Antonelli has had a rollercoaster start to his career in F1, showing glimpses of his generational talent as well as his inexperience in Formula 1 machinery.

The Italian’s maiden F1 podium at the Canadian Grand Prix is an obvious high-point for the driver, with a Sprint race pole position in Miami also being a highlight. However, his 2025 record has also been littered with several retirements. The 18-year-old has collected four DNFs in the last six Grands Prix.

Mercedes may lean toward keeping Russell alongside Verstappen due to his experience and proven race-winning ability. His familiarity and strong knowledge of development at the team could be crucial in stabilising the dynamic with an explosive teammate like Verstappen.

However, sidelining Antonelli, even if it is temporarily, could backfire for the German constructor. He is seen as a long-term investment, and any loan deal must be handled delicately to avoid damaging trust. Mercedes will have to reassure him that his future remains central to their own.
