The news broke after Sylvia’s daughter, Frances Ruffelle, shared a moving tribute after announcing her mum died this morning (July 30).

“It is with great sadness we let you know that our incredible Mum Sylvia Young passed away peacefully this morning 30th July 2025,” she wrote on Instagram.

“Our Mum was a true visionary. She gave young people from all walks of life the chance to pursue their performing arts skills to the highest standard. Her rare ability to recognise raw talent and encourage all her students contributed to the richness of today’s theatre and music world, even winning herself an Olivier Award along the way.”

She continued: “She believed hard work with a bit of luck brought success, and she was an example of that herself. She leaves as her legacy a wealth of brilliant performers, a thriving school bearing her name, and a priceless place in the nation’s heart.”

Out of all her incredible accomplishments, Frances said Sylvia “leaves the memory of an East End girl who worked hard to achieve her goals, took hold of life, and lived it to the full”.

“Her family were everything to her, her wonderful husband, our dad, Norman and her grandchildren Eliza, Nat, Felix and Coral plus her great grandson Rex. We share her love with her wide and inclusive family, her friends, her students. You all meant the world to her. We will miss her so very much.”

“I remember watching Sylvia on Live and Kicking when I was 12 years old. She was talking about her school and all the fun they had there. I phoned up for a brochure and applied for a scholarship without telling my mum and dad. I didn’t get the scholarship, but I got a place with a ‘deal’ attached because Sylvia wanted me there – something I quickly learned the majority of the 140 students had,” she continued.

In a lengthy tribute, Giovanna concluded: “I am heartbroken to hear that Sylvia is no longer with us. I owe her so much love and gratitude. My heart goes to her husband Norman, her family, and all who knew her.”

Ozzy Osbourne funeral: Sharon Osbourne seen for the first time

Ozzy’s coffin was driven by a hearse as the live brass band, Bostin’ Brass, played Black Sabbath’s song Iron Man while the street mourned the star.

The top of his car featured a purple cross made out of flowers. His name, Ozzy, inside the car was decorated with pink flowers with a white hand-tied bunch sat at the back of his coffin.

Mourners lining the streets shouted: “Ozzy Ozzy Ozzy, oi oi oi!” as his coffin passed by.

As the family made their way out of the cars behind to look at the beautiful tributes, a heartbroken Sharon was supported by her three children – Kelly, Aimee and Jack Osbourne – as she made her first public appearance since her husband’s death.

The family wore all-black for the occasion. Kelly and Jack – visibly moved – opted for sunglasses, while Sharon and Aimee didn’t.

  • Chloe Kelly apologises for swearing during Lionesses’ victory parade: ‘Emotions got the better of me’!

Chloe Kelly apologises for swearing during Lionesses’ victory parade: ‘Emotions got the better of me’!

It happened outside Buckingham Palace, and live on the BBC

Chloe Kelly forced BBC presenter Alex Scott to issue an immediate apology after she swore outside Buckingham Palace at the victory parade held to celebrate the Lionesses‘ Euro 2025 win yesterday (July 29).

Hour later, the footballer herself said sorry, as she admitted her “emotions” got the better of her.

Not that you could blame her. More than 10,000 people lined The Mall to welcome the ladies and their trophy home from Switzerland.

Viewers at home also watched as the team made their way down The Mall on an open-top bus. They then headed to the stage, set up in front of Buckingham Palace. Alex Scott was then on hand to interview some of the players, before Heather Small performed live.

However, the air was quickly turned blue at the celebrations by that potty-mouthed, penalty-scoring champion Chloe Kelly…

Chloe Kelly swears outside Buckingham Palace

Speaking to Alex Scott – who became emotional herself when presenting from the final – Chloe thanked everyone for the support during this year’s Euros. However, caught up in the moment, the star shocked the host – and viewers watching at home – as she dropped the F-bomb.

Chloe said: “Thank you to everyone that got out to support us. Whether that’s in Switzerland or out here today. It’s so [bleep]ing special.”

With the interview going out live on the BBC, and with thousands of kids in the audience in The Mall, Alex was quick to say sorry.

“We are live so I will apologise for that language right there,” the presenter said.

Captain Leah Williamson was also interviewed. She appeared overwhelmed by the size of the crowd and admitted she was struggling with her emotions. Goalie Hannah Hampton also chatted to Alex. Her interview came a day after she announced the death of her grandfather.

    Viewers react

Many watching at home appreciated that Chloe was caught up in the moment. One posted: “Chloe Kelly is SO [bleep]ing Special.” Another commented: “Big up to @chloekelly for dropping an adjectival F-bomb live on TV outside Buckingham Palace.”

Proud to be English? Language is appalling!!!

A third joked: “Chloe Kelly just got a lifetime ban from BBC.”

However, not everyone felt the same, with Chloe – who scored the winning penalty – coming in for some stick online.

“Did foul-mouthed #chloekelly just swear!!?” asked one viewer. “Proud to be English? Language is appalling!!! How embarrassing,” said another.

    “Indeed, so unnecessary,” said another.

However, others had the England hero’s back. “One word. Not repeated. Slipped out through emotion and adrenaline. You could see she was mortified and wanted to wrap up her interview. It really isn’t that deep,” they said.

Someone else agreed and predicted: “No doubt some weirdos are going to complain to Ofcom about Chloe Kelly swearing on live TV.”

    Chloe says sorry

Hours after the parade and celebrations ended, Chloe took to her social media and said sorry. “Ooops,” the statement started. “Emotions got the better of me,” she said, adding the face with peeping eye emoji.

She continued: “Sorry for the F bomb. Love CK x.”

Sunday night (July 27) saw Chloe and the rest of the team beat Spain on penalties to win their second successive Euros trophy. They then enjoyed a boozy party with their loved ones until the wee small hours of the morning.

Last night, they headed to 10 Downing Street for a celebration with Angela Rayner.

Now, we’re all hoping they’re recognised on the King’s New Years Honours List.

Inside Ozzy Osbourne’s children’s feud after Kelly Osbourne cut ties with sister Aimee!

Aimee left her family home at age 16

The daughters of Ozzy Osbourne, Kelly and Aimee Aimee were not on speaking terms before their father’s death.

The Black Sabbath star died at age 76 last week (July 22). The family broke the news with a joint statement.

“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” they shared.

“He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.” It was signed off: “Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis.”

Despite Ozzy being surrounded by loved ones during his final moments, Kelly ,40, and Aimee, 41, had previously been vocal about cutting ties with one another.

Ozzy Osbourne’s daughters Kelly and Aimee do not speak

During a 2021 appearance on the Armchair Expert podcast, Kelly Osbourne said she and Aimee “don’t talk”.

“We’re just really different. She doesn’t understand me and I don’t understand her,” she said.

Aimee has also spoken on the matter. In 2015, she told The Independent that the pair do not ever hang out together.

“I wouldn’t say there is an ease between us,” she explained, adding: “But there is an acceptance. Do we socialise? No.”

    ‘It wasn’t to be’

In the same interview, Aimee revealed she has a different relationship with being famous than Kelly.

“I’ll be having lunch with my mum and she’ll complain about the paparazzi outside,” she said. “I tell her that she could have worn a beanie, but of course she never does. She loves it – it’s how she chooses to connect with people. That’s fine, I can respect that. But I’m the opposite. I always have been.”

Out of the Osbourne family, Aimee has always wanted to live a private life away from the cameras. That is the reason why she never took part in their MTV family reality show, The Osbournes. At age 16, she moved out to avoid appearing on the hit series.

Aimee said her decision was based on “trying to figure out who I was in the chaos of family life”, stating she didn’t want that “portrayed” on television.

She said she would have “liked to stay at home a little longer” but realised it “wasn’t to be”.

Ozzy Osbourne daughters: ‘There wasn’t a closeness to begin with’

As Kelly and Aimee’s distant relationship is back in the headlines again, Louella Alderson, co-founder of dating tool So Syncd, spoke exclusively to Entertainment Daily about how she thinks things will progress since their father’s death.

“Kelly and Aimee Osbourne likely put their differences aside in Ozzy’s final days to prioritise a peaceful environment for him and the rest of the family. Even when relationships have been strained, family illnesses and death can bring people back together as they have a major life event to connect and bond over,” she told ED!

“That said, given Aimee and Kelly’s long-standing feud and the fact that they’ve been open about not seeing eye to eye for many years, it seems unlikely that Kelly and Aimee will suddenly become close now Ozzy has passed away,” Louella continued.

“The reality is they’ve lived largely separate lives and never appeared particularly close. While they’ll likely remain civil and respectful for the sake of their family, it’s reasonable to assume they’ll continue on separate paths rather than forge a new closeness that wasn’t there to begin with.”

Kelly and Aimee show unity at Ozzy’s funeral

Earlier today (July 30), Ozzy was laid to rest at a funeral in his hometown of Birmingham.

Despite their reported friction, Kelly and Aimee showed unity as they attended the emotional day with their mother Sharon and younger brother Jack.

The family wore all-black for the occasion. Kelly and Jack opted for sunglasses, while Sharon and Aimee didn’t.

Rock legend Phil Collins is reportedly in hospital amid claims he may be receiving hospice care.

A representative for the Genesis star reportedly recently denied Phil, 74, was on his deathbed.

Instead, it was divulged that the In the Air Tonight hitmaker is currently in the hospital after undergoing knee surgery.

    Phil Collins health update

Speculation about Phil’s health in recent days and weeks had led to increased concern for the Another Day in Paradise singer.

Back in 2022, drumming legend Phil reportedly revealed he was “very sick” and retired from live performances. It was reported he could “barely hold a drumstick”.

Phil is said to have told Mojo magazine, following Genesis’s final concert at London’s O2 Arena, that he was no longer “hungry for it any more”.

He said at the time: “I keep thinking I should go downstairs to the studio and see what happens, but I’m not hungry for it any more. The thing is, I’ve been sick – I mean very sick.”

    Phil Collins hospitalisation

Phil has also endured a series of other health challenges, including nerve damage from a spinal injury sustained in 2007. It’s believed the injury concerns the vertebrae in his upper neck.

Phil also has acute pancreatitis and also has ‘foot drop’, which means he wears orthopaedic shoes.

However, recent false reports have reportedly been dismissed with Phil’s spokesperson said to have emphasised the star is not in end-of-life care. Nonetheless, it has been reported that it is on the record that Phil was hospitalised for a knee op.

The Sun also reports how Phil previously admitted he believed he had “used up my air miles”. He is said to have made the comments in a documentary after he performed in a wheelchair for the final Genesis gig.

    ‘A shock’

The documentary also featured Phil addressing how decades of playing the drums had affected him physically.

It was noted how his hands, feet and body absorbed the effects of high-intensity performances across hundreds of performances across the world.

Phil said: “If I wake up one day and I can hold a pair of drumsticks, then I’ll have a crack of it. But I just feel like I’ve used up my air miles. It’s still kind of sinking in a bit.

I just feel like I’ve used up my air miles.

“I’ve spent all my life playing drums. To be suddenly not be able to do that is a shock. If I can’t do what I did as well as I did it, I’d rather relax and not do anything.”

Phil, who has been married three times, is also a father of five. His children include actor Joely, 52; drummer Simon, 48; Emily in Paris star Lily, 36; drummer Nic, 24; and soccer player Mathew, 20.

  • After a crucial turning point in contract talks, Ferrari have left fans with just one big question mark hanging over Fred Vasseur’s future — what exactly is behind this unexpected silence and how will it impact the team’s plans moving forward?

After a crucial turning point in contract talks, Ferrari have left fans with just one big question mark hanging over Fred Vasseur’s future — what exactly is behind this unexpected silence and how will it impact the team’s plans moving forward?

Photo by Jakub Porzycki/NurPhoto via Getty Images

Ferrari strengthened their position sat second in the F1 constructors’ standings at the 2025 Belgian Grand Prix, but this season has not achieved Fred Vasseur’s predictions.

Team principal Vasseur started the 2025 F1 season believing that this might be the term that Ferrari finally returns their first drivers’ title since 2007 or constructors’ title since 2008 back to Maranello. But the titles are likely already out of Ferrari’s reach before the summer break.

While the pride of Italy may sit second in the F1 constructors’ standings after round 13 of 24 at the Belgian GP, Ferrari are 268 points shy of McLaren. Drivers’ championship leader Oscar Piastri also sits 128 points clear of Charles Leclerc in fifth and 157 to Lewis Hamilton in sixth.

Leclerc’s P3 finish in the Belgian GP for his and Ferrari’s fifth podium this season helped the Scuderia to move an additional 16 points clear of Mercedes in the scrap for the silver spoon. Hamilton recovered to P7 after starting the Belgian GP from the pit lane as he qualified P16.

Fred Vasseur is now set to sign a new contract, but Ferrari will not confirm its length

But scrapping for second place in the constructors’ championship is not what Ferrari desire. So, as the titles quickly seemed unlikely this term, reports emerged before the Canadian GP in June that Vasseur had three races to save his job at Ferrari – a spell he has since survived.

Vasseur faced an uncertain future in Maranello as his contract with Ferrari is set to expire at the end of this season. But Motorsport.com now reports that a ‘turning point’ followed the questions about the Frenchman’s future and Vasseur is set to sign a new contract at Ferrari.

Ferrari have elected to keep Vasseur on through at least the 2026 season to have continuity at the team heading into the 2026 F1 regulations cycle. Maranello chiefs do not want to add any further disruption by changing their team principal before the grid will potentially reset.

So, while there are no announcements about his new deal due yet, the ‘only question mark’ left is how long Vasseur’s new contract will be. The Scuderia do not aim to clarify the length of his deal, which will thrill Leclerc and Hamilton as they never lost faith in the 57-year-old.

Fred Vasseur’s future will be in question again if Ferrari struggle with the 2026 regulations

Hamilton and Leclerc have been two of Vasseur’s biggest supporters, including coming out and backing the Frenchman when questions emerged about his future in Maranello before the Canadian GP. Vasseur was key to Hamilton joining Ferrari from Mercedes this year, too.

But while the drivers still believe the Frenchman is the right man for the job, Ferrari’s lack of results put a target on Vasseur’s back. It was even said that Ferrari’s top brass have used the Italian media to make their disappointment clear, having gone 17 Grands Prix without a win.

So, if Ferrari also drop the ball with the 2026 regulations, which will mark their first car that technical director Loic Serra has truly designed since joining last September, then questions will persist – even if Vasseur is closing in on a new contract after regaining Ferrari’s support.

  • Oscar Piastri finally speaks out after devastating engine failure at Spa, raising serious questions about McLaren’s future in the championship – is the team falling apart under pressure, or can they bounce back from this catastrophic setback before the season slips away?

Oscar Piastri finally speaks out after devastating engine failure at Spa, raising serious questions about McLaren’s future in the championship – is the team falling apart under pressure, or can they bounce back from this catastrophic setback before the season slips away?

Inside the Drama of the 2025 Belgian Grand Prix: Oscar Piastri’s Mysterious Engine Failure and What It Means for McLaren

Welcome to F1 News Inside the F1. Today, we’re diving straight into the heart of one of the most unpredictable and thrilling races of the 2025 season — the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps. Known for its challenging layout and often mercurial weather, Spa once again delivered a race packed with intense battles, jaw-dropping retirements, and a drama-filled weekend that will be remembered for a long time.

But amidst all the twists and turns, the main talking point — both in the paddock and among fans — has been the sudden and baffling engine failure suffered by McLaren’s rising star, Oscar Piastri.

Oscar Piastri's MISTAKE nearly causes dangerous McLaren incident at Spa - GPFans.com

A Rising Star Halted: The Moment Spa Turned Against Piastri

Oscar Piastri has been nothing short of a revelation in the 2025 season. Consistently performing at a high level, he quickly established himself as a standout driver, impressing fans and pundits alike. So, when his car — the McLaren MCL39 — suddenly suffered a catastrophic loss of power just past the race’s halfway mark, the shockwaves sent through the McLaren garage were palpable.

One moment, Piastri was battling fiercely in the pack, poised for a solid points finish. The next, the power unit simply died, leaving him helpless as cars streamed past. The team radio crackled with a terse message: “Severe loss of power.” For any F1 fan, those words immediately signal a serious issue.

The mechanics scrambled in real-time, running through diagnostics, switching engine modes, and searching desperately for a fix. Nothing worked. With no power restoration, the team had no choice but to retire the car — a brutal end to a race that held so much promise.

    What Could Have Gone Wrong?

At a circuit like Spa, which demands maximum stress on the car, engine failures are especially alarming. The hybrid power units in modern F1 cars are marvels of engineering — a complex blend of internal combustion engines and electrical components. Failure could stem from multiple sources: overheating, a malfunction in key components like the MGU-K (Motor Generator Unit-Kinetic) or MGU-H (Motor Generator Unit-Heat), hydraulic issues, or thermal limits being exceeded.

For McLaren, this failure comes amid a season where reliability has already been a concern. Spa was not the first time such issues surfaced. Even Piastri’s teammate, Lando Norris, encountered power unit troubles during practice sessions at the same venue, suggesting Spa may have exposed deeper cracks in McLaren’s power unit setup.

Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri handed 'exposed' warning by McLaren boss | RacingNews365

    The Silence Speaks Volumes

Perhaps most intriguing — and worrying — is the silence from McLaren’s top brass following the incident. Team Principal André Stella, usually open and communicative, offered only a cryptic statement: “We are investigating the issue but cannot go into details at this moment.”

In F1, such silence often hints at a systemic problem, likely involving a critical part of the power unit. McLaren and their engine supplier, Renault, appear to be guarding details closely, perhaps to protect reputations. But this secrecy also fuels speculation that this is not just a one-off glitch but a symptom of something more serious.

Renault’s Role and the Engine Reliability Question

The partnership between McLaren and Renault this season was expected to be a catalyst for McLaren’s resurgence, a move designed to bring serious performance gains. Instead, Piastri’s engine failure, coupled with earlier reliability wobbles, puts a spotlight on Renault’s power units.

Are these engines simply not robust enough for the grueling 2025 season? Are there design weaknesses only now being revealed under the extreme pressures of modern F1 racing?

These questions are especially pressing given Spa’s unique challenges. The circuit’s combination of long straights, high-speed corners like Pouhon and Blanchimont, and dramatic elevation changes push cars to their absolute limits. Then add Spa’s famously unpredictable weather, and the strain on engines is immense.

Piastri: I have all tools to challenge for F1 title, now I need to deploy them

    Spa: The Ultimate Testing Ground

Spa-Francorchamps is arguably the toughest track on the calendar. The combination of sustained high speeds and elevation changes means every component — especially the power unit — works overtime. If there’s a weak spot in engine design or cooling systems, Spa will find it.

In that light, Piastri’s failure could be a case of the power unit not being fully prepared — thermally or structurally — for the extreme conditions. Or perhaps McLaren’s pursuit of speed has pushed the engine beyond its reliable limits.

In F1’s relentless arms race, balancing outright performance with durability is a fine line. Sacrificing reliability for a fraction of a second can be disastrous. This incident at Spa suggests McLaren may have tipped too far in favor of performance, only to pay the price.

What Does This Mean for Piastri and McLaren’s Season?

For Piastri, this isn’t just a lost race. It’s a massive blow to his momentum and confidence. Consistency is king in Formula 1, and repeated mechanical failures, especially those beyond a driver’s control, can derail even the most promising careers.

McLaren, fighting hard in the constructors’ championship, sees every point as crucial. A DNF (Did Not Finish) not only costs valuable points but damages morale, strategy, and momentum. The team now faces a steeper climb to stay competitive as rivals smell opportunity.

    The Broader Implications for F1

Beyond McLaren, this incident raises questions about the future of F1 power units in general. With engines becoming ever more complex, the pace of development frenzied, and pressures immense, could mechanical failures become more common? The razor-thin margin between pushing for peak performance and preserving reliability may be narrowing dangerously.

Teams might be forced to rethink their priorities: is the fastest engine worth little if it can’t finish races? This dilemma could push manufacturers and teams toward either sacrificing some outright speed for reliability or innovating even more resilient engines — a fascinating challenge in itself.

    Conclusion: A Defining Moment

The 2025 Belgian Grand Prix may well be remembered as a turning point — for Oscar Piastri, McLaren, and perhaps F1’s technical future. Whether this was an unlucky one-off or the symptom of a systemic issue will become clearer in the coming weeks.

For now, McLaren’s investigation continues, and the world watches, waiting for answers. The stakes are high: Piastri’s career trajectory, McLaren’s championship hopes, and Renault’s reputation all hang in the balance.

As the season progresses, this incident reminds us just how unforgiving and thrilling Formula 1 remains — a sport where speed, technology, and human spirit collide under immense pressure. And sometimes, even the brightest stars face the harshest challenges.

JUST REVEALED! REAL REASON Max Verstappen is STAYING at Red Bull!

Max Verstappen’s Red Bull Commitment Seals Mercedes’ Hopes, but Off-Track Drama Lingers

Mercedes’ hopes of prying Max Verstappen away from Red Bull have officially come to an end for the 2026 Formula 1 season. The Dutch superstar is now mathematically locked into his Red Bull deal, with key performance-related contract clauses no longer able to be triggered. This development quashes rumors of a dramatic mid-season or post-season switch and provides Red Bull with long-awaited contractual stability. But beyond pure performance incentives, are there other reasons Verstappen is staying put? And how have team dynamics, including the influence of Mercedes’ team principal Toto Wolff, played into the story? Let’s unpack the latest developments in one of Formula 1’s most fascinating contractual sagas.

The Contract Clause That Locked Verstappen In

For years, speculation has swirled around Max Verstappen’s Red Bull contract — which runs through 2028 — containing break clauses tied to performance. Specifically, if Verstappen fell outside the top three drivers in the championship standings by the summer break, he would have the option to explore offers from rival teams, such as Mercedes. This summer cutoff point was a critical juncture for any potential contract renegotiations or team changes.

Heading into the Hungarian Grand Prix — traditionally the mid-season marker — Verstappen was in a strong position thanks to his dominant form, particularly highlighted by a recent sprint race win in Belgium. Mathematically, this performance ensured Verstappen remained inside the top three drivers, closing the door on activating the exit clause.

His closest competitor, Mercedes’ George Russell, sits 28 points behind after an underwhelming showing in Belgium, scoring zero points in the sprint race and finishing fifth in the main event. With a maximum of 25 points available at the Hungarian GP and no bonus points in play this year, even a perfect weekend for Russell combined with a DNF (Did Not Finish) for Verstappen wouldn’t change the standings. This seals Verstappen’s commitment to Red Bull for at least the 2026 season.

What This Means for Red Bull and Mercedes

While Verstappen’s loyalty to Red Bull was always the probable outcome, the official confirmation removes any lingering uncertainty. It also allows Red Bull’s new team principal, Lauron Mechy’s, to focus on building the fastest car without worrying about potential mid-contract renegotiations or exits.

Mechy’s approach to retaining Verstappen is simple: “Build the best car on the grid.” Verstappen himself has stated that his priority is driving for whichever team offers the fastest car — and Red Bull has been delivering that consistently.

For Mercedes, this confirmation means shifting focus entirely onto their own championship prospects and contract negotiations with their current lead driver George Russell, who remains unsigned for 2026. Russell’s contract situation has been a hot topic, especially with earlier rumors linking Verstappen to Mercedes. With Verstappen’s future now settled, all eyes turn back to Russell’s fate with the Silver Arrows.

The Shadow of Team Dynamics: Toto Wolff’s Role

Contract negotiations aren’t just about performance clauses and points tallies. Behind the scenes, the personalities and negotiation styles of team principals play a critical role. Former Mercedes driver and 2016 World Champion Nico Rosberg has openly criticized Mercedes’ team principal Toto Wolff’s negotiation tactics, describing them as frustrating and difficult.

Rosberg recounts that Wolff has a tendency to “disappear” when negotiations become tense, making it hard for drivers and their representatives to pin him down. According to Rosberg, Wolff sometimes even avoids reading messages fully or replying promptly, a tactic that can sour relationships and complicate high-pressure contract talks.

Such behavior reportedly does not sit well with Verstappen’s camp or other drivers accustomed to straightforward dealings. The high-stakes, high-pressure world of Formula 1 contracts demands clear communication and trust — factors that may have influenced Verstappen’s hesitation to consider Mercedes despite their attempts to lure him away.

The Power Struggle Inside Red Bull

Red Bull itself has been undergoing significant internal changes behind the scenes. The departure of team principal Christian Horner marks just the beginning of a sweeping restructuring within the team. The Austrian headquarters is tightening control over operations, signaling a major power shift.

Oliver Minsloff, one of three CEOs appointed by Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz as part of a succession plan, appears to be consolidating influence. Minsloff’s reportedly frosty demeanor made headlines earlier this year during Red Bull’s F1 launch, where he seemed less than thrilled sharing the spotlight.

According to Red Bull senior advisor Helmut Marko, Minsloff played a key role in the decision to part ways with Horner, citing that “performance wasn’t quite what we envisioned.” This indicates Red Bull’s ambition to maintain dominance even as the team undergoes leadership upheaval — a testament to the cutthroat environment Verstappen thrives in.

What Lies Ahead: The 2027 Clause and Beyond

Although Verstappen’s 2026 season is secured, the story isn’t over. It’s understood that his contract contains another break clause for 2027, triggered if he falls outside the top two drivers by the next summer break. With sweeping regulation changes coming in 2025, shaking up the competitive landscape, no team can guarantee the fastest car next year.

If Red Bull stumbles under the new rules and another team surges ahead, Verstappen’s camp may once again consider exploring other options. The door to a shock switch to Mercedes or another front-running team remains ajar, even if firmly closed for now.

George Russell’s Contract and Mercedes’ Future

While Verstappen’s deal is sealed, Mercedes’ George Russell still faces uncertainty. His refusal to finalize a contract before the Hungarian GP hints at ongoing negotiations and strategic maneuvering. Rosberg speculated that teams aim to finalize lineups quickly after the mid-season break to focus on championship battles.

Russell’s negotiations reportedly face the same Wolff disappearing act described by Rosberg, potentially complicating a timely agreement. As Mercedes gears up to challenge Red Bull under new regulations, securing their lead driver’s loyalty is paramount.

    Conclusion: Stability Amidst Uncertainty

Max Verstappen’s commitment to Red Bull for 2026 brings clarity to a saga filled with speculation, high drama, and strategic brinkmanship. It underscores the importance of on-track performance but also reveals the nuanced influence of off-track personalities and power plays within F1’s elite teams.

For Red Bull, locking in Verstappen reduces pressure during a critical transition phase under new leadership. For Mercedes, it means doubling down on their own driver strategy and internal cohesion.

Yet, with another contract clause looming and regulation changes on the horizon, this story remains far from finished. The 2027 season may yet reignite contract battles and team rivalries as the quest for Formula 1 supremacy continues.

Lewis Hamilton’s Spa Saga: A Weekend of Struggles, Strategy, and Signs of a Ferrari Revival

Radio debacle must not mask Ferrari failings — they look like also-rans

It began as a disaster. What should have been a routine race weekend at Spa for Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time world champion, quickly spiraled into chaos. Instead of demonstrating his usual dominance, Hamilton found himself floundering in the early qualifying sessions, failing to make it past Q1 not once, but twice. The mighty had fallen, and the Belgian Grand Prix weekend was shaping up to be a nightmare for the Ferrari driver.

Friday’s qualifying woes foreshadowed a tough race ahead. Then, on Saturday at Radon, Hamilton pushed too hard—four wheels over the line, resulting in the deletion of his lap time. A disheartening P16 grid position was as low as the weekend would get. Yet, ironically, this was the best thing that happened to him.

Amidst the turmoil, Ferrari knew they were in trouble. Their hopes couldn’t rest on luck or miracles. They took a bold, unorthodox step that sent shockwaves through the paddock—breaking parc fermé regulations to change Hamilton’s setup and replace his power unit, incurring a penalty. This meant starting from the pit lane, a position that offered nothing but freedom—the freedom to gamble.

Sunday’s race began under torrential rain, with the field rolling behind the safety car. Hamilton rejoined from 17th place on the grid with a fresh car and a setup tailored for corners rather than outright speed—a risky but clever move that suited the treacherous conditions perfectly.

What followed was a masterclass in racecraft and strategic bravery. Within just a few laps, Hamilton charged forward, overtaking drivers like Signs, Colipinto, and Hülkenberg. His moves were clinical and unexpected, showcasing a veteran driver’s instinct to seize every opportunity when others hesitated. By lap 12, Hamilton made a crucial call—he was the first to switch onto slick tires, a daring gamble that paid off handsomely as the track dried.

While others lingered, Hamilton’s lap times plummeted. With clean air and medium compound tires gripping the drying surface, he propelled himself forward into seventh place, behind Alex Albon’s Williams. This was no ordinary Williams car—its strengths in the straights were a challenge to Hamilton’s Ferrari, which was set up for maximum downforce, perfect for corners but lacking top speed.

The chase was on. Hamilton closed in, applying DRS pressure. But frustration seeped into his radio messages. “It’s hard to get close on the straight,” he explained. Then came the dreaded order from race engineer Ricardo Adami: “We still need the lift and coast.” Hamilton’s reply was tense, “I can’t attack because I’ve got no fuel, mate. Can I keep pushing or not?” The silence that followed spoke volumes.

The truth was brutal—Ferrari had underfueled the car. The battle with Albon never materialized. Hamilton later reflected, “Basically, we underfueled for the wing we had. It was a knife edge setup, and Ferrari had gambled again. Too much downforce, not enough gas.” The gamble had paid off in early speed and overtakes but compromised late-race aggression.

Ferrari team boss Fred Vaser joked when questioned about the fuel situation but couldn’t hide the reality. Hamilton had been handed a sword without a handle. Despite the setback, what shone through was vintage Lewis—the Rain Master at work, gaining 11 places in tricky conditions in a car that wasn’t set up for overtaking. It was a reminder that even at 40, Hamilton’s fire hasn’t dimmed.

Vaser’s dry wit about Hamilton “engineering the car” was more than banter. In the days leading to Spa, Hamilton had immersed himself not just in driving but in shaping the SF25’s development. He arrived armed with detailed documents, proposals, and outlines on what needed to change. This wasn’t just a driver showing up for race weekend; it was a champion taking ownership of his machine from the inside.

Still, even the best can’t drive on empty. Hamilton’s radio exchanges revealed the tension—a driver desperate to push, hampered by strategy constraints. The final outcome, a seventh-place finish, was more than a recovery; it was a statement. It sent a clear message about the potential locked within the Ferrari and its star driver.

Ferrari’s gamble on setup was clear: favoring early pace and downforce over late-race top speed. It was a decision made without knowing how many racing laps the Sunday would hold. The gamble partially succeeded, but as Vaser admitted, it wasn’t enough. “If you want podiums or wins, you can’t let one session slip away,” he reflected.

Hamilton was candid in accepting his share of responsibility. “I’ve got to go back and can’t always get it right,” he admitted. The humility in that statement is important—it shows a driver who owns his mistakes but also sees the pathway forward. “I think I know the car a lot better now and the changes we’ve made. It’s subtle but crucial.”

That belief in progress and direction underscores Hamilton’s evolving role at Ferrari. He’s not just adapting to the car; he’s shaping its DNA. The collaboration between driver and team is deepening, with Hamilton increasingly involved in technical meetings, strategy sessions, and development plans.

Beyond the weekend’s drama lies a broader narrative—Ferrari’s fight with Mercedes. Hamilton’s P7 finish outscored his former team, extending Ferrari’s lead to 28 points in the Constructors’ Championship. In a season where McLaren leads comfortably, the battle for second is fiercely competitive. Hamilton and Ferrari’s resurgence hints at a team regaining its edge, even if there’s work to do.

Hamilton’s closing remarks after Spa were both reflective and forward-looking: “Definitely one to forget, but at least I still got some points. Big thanks to the team. I’ll try and come stronger next week.” It sounds like a closing statement, but it’s more a promise—a declaration that the fight is far from over.

The question no longer is whether Lewis Hamilton can still win races; it’s about how Ferrari equips him to do so. If they continue to make small strategic mistakes, they might be their own biggest obstacle. But if they learn, adapt, and improve, Hamilton could very well be a force to reckon with in the remaining 11 races before the 2026 rules reset.

Every race now is a rehearsal, every lap a chance to refine the partnership between driver and machine. Hamilton’s influence inside Ferrari is growing. Expect to see more aggressive strategic gambles, more nuanced setup experiments, and an intensified driver-engineer synergy as they lay the foundation for Hamilton’s possible eighth world title campaign.

Wins may be rare this year, but beneath the surface, something significant is brewing. Hamilton isn’t just racing; he’s molding the future of his car and his team. At 40, the Rain Master’s comeback at Spa was more than just a recovery—it was a statement of intent. And if Ferrari gets their act together, the sport’s most decorated driver may have many more battles—and victories—ahead.
