‘THE PAIN IS NOT OVER’ Humiliated Anton Du Beke on ‘AWFUL’ split after SH0CK betrayal

Strictly star Anton Du Beke previously opened up about a relationship that ended in heartbreak.

The dancer, 58, – who is on Katie Piper’s Weekend Escape today (May 18) – is loved-up with wife Hannah Summers.

The pair met in 2011 and tied the knot in 2017 – the same year that Anton and Hannah welcomed twins George and Henrietta.

However, finding his one true love wasn’t easy for Anton…

Strictly star Anton Du Beke on ‘humiliating’ break-up

In 2023, Anton appeared on Gyles Brandreth’s podcast, Rosebud – where he reflected on a relationship that quickly turned sour. So much so, that it drove him to flee his hometown…

“I met this girl called Vanessa – she was a proper girlfriend,” Strictly star Anton said.

He then added: “The humiliation of being dumped by her and then you find out she started dating one of your mates.

“It sort of led me to leave town. I’m gonna move to the north of England, please, because it’s just awful!” the TV star proclaimed.

Anton ‘didn’t really get involved with girls’

And it seems the experience was so traumatic for Anton, that he decided to turn away from romance.

“I started dancing seriously [at the age of 14] and I didn’t really get involved with girlfriends [any more] in the traditional sense,” he explained.

Fortunately, years later Anton met wife Hannah – and the rest is history!

Anton has previously revealed they first encountered one another at a dinner party – and Anton was blown away. So much so, Anton was desperate to grab a chance to speak to her alone, and saw his opportunity as she popped to the loo.

He recalled in 2021: “I knew almost immediately that I loved her.”

And it seems he let her know, too. Anton added a couple of years ago: “She came out [of the toilet], she looked at me and went: ‘Have you been waiting outside the ladies’ for me?’ And I went: ‘Yes, it’s because I love you.’”

A Strictly Come Dancing professional has shared some heartbreak off screen just hours before this weekend’s results show. This year she is paired up with Gladiator Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, also known as Nitro, as they continue to dazzle on the dancefloor.

They performed a rumba to It Must Have Been Love by Roxette, scoring 26 out of a possible 40 points from the judges, and received a standing ovation from the crowd. But behind the performance, Karen was battling a secret heartache. Taking to her Instagram account, on Sunday (October 19) morning, she shared that her dog, Betty, has been unwell. The dancer shared some sweet snaps of her four-legged friend, including some from their recent visit to the vet as she delivered a devastating update. The vet visit had come about after Karen’s partner, Simon Davidson, found some lumps on the dog’s belly.

She explained: “Last week Simon felt two small lumps on Betty’s belly and under her armpit. We took her to the vet, and the results showed traces of cancer. Our hearts broke [heartbroken emoji].

“It’s grade one as far as we know, and our vets have been absolutely incredible. They’ll be doing further tests to make sure they have all the info and can guide us through the next steps to give our Betty the best treatment possible.

She continued: “Please check your fur babies for any lumps or bumps… early detection can make all the difference.”

Her Strictly co-stars rushed to support her and offer words of well-wishes and encouragement. Former contestant Gemma Atkinson wrote: “Oh bless her. Hope you guys are all doing ok.”

Harry also shared his support, adding: “Such sad news! I hope she’ll be ok.” Strictly 2024 star Sarah Hadland shared: “Oh sweet girl I hope she’s ok.” Co-star Lauren Oakley replied: “Love and cuddles to Betty girl.”

Fans also shared sweet messages, with one writing: “I’m so sorry, lots of love to you all xxxx everything crossed they’ve got it and controlling.”

Another added: ” So sorry to be reading this news. Sending you all big hugs, love and prayers that everything will be okay.”

“I’M LOSING HER BIT BY BIT…” — The Tragic Reality Behind Pauline Quirke’s Decline, as Her Husband Reveals She No Longer Recognises Her Family and Fans Across Britain Rally in Tears

It’s the kind of heartbreak no family ever wants to face — and for millions of fans, it’s almost too painful to believe.
Pauline Quirke, the adored Birds of a Feather actress whose warmth and humour defined British television for decades, is reportedly facing a devastating health battle that has left her unable to recognise even her closest loved ones.

Her husband, Steve Sheen, spoke through tears in a rare emotional interview, admitting that the woman he’s loved for over 30 years “doesn’t have much time left.” His words sent a wave of shock and sorrow through the nation.

“Some days she looks at me and smiles… and for a moment, I think she remembers. But then it’s gone,” he said, voice trembling.
“It’s like losing her piece by piece.”

A National Treasure Fading from View

For generations, Pauline Quirke has been a fixture of British comedy and drama, celebrated for her role as Sharon Theodopolopodos in Birds of a Feather. Her natural charm and unfiltered wit made her a household favourite. Offscreen, she was known as deeply private — a devoted mother, wife, and mentor through her acclaimed Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts.

But in recent years, fans noticed her gradual retreat from public life, skipping major Birds of a Feather reunions and public appearances. At first, it was chalked up to creative differences or personal choice. Now, it’s heartbreakingly clear: Pauline has been fighting a battle that no amount of fame or fortune could prepare her for.

    The Silent Struggle

Family friends have described a painful decline that began quietly — small lapses in memory, confusion about names, places, and events. Over time, those moments grew longer, until even familiar faces became strangers.

Her husband’s emotional confession paints a picture of love under unbearable strain:

“We sit together and I tell her stories — about our life, our children, the laughter on set — and sometimes she smiles. But she doesn’t know they’re hers. She doesn’t know they’re ours.”

    A Nation in Mourning

As news spread, social media was flooded with messages of love and support from across the UK. Former co-stars, including Linda Robson and Lesley Joseph, reportedly reached out privately, expressing heartbreak over their friend’s condition.

Fans have shared clips and quotes from her best-loved moments — laughing through tears as they remember the woman who made them smile through the hardest times.
    One post read:

“Pauline Quirke made us laugh when we needed it most. Now it’s our turn to send her love.”

    The Legacy of Pauline Quirke

Even as her memory fades, Pauline’s legacy remains vivid. From Birds of a Feather to Broadchurch, she brought depth, humour, and heart to every role she touched. Her work inspired generations of British actors — and through her academy, she helped nurture the next wave of talent.

Now, her family is asking for privacy and compassion, focusing on her comfort and dignity in her final chapter.

A Goodbye No One Was Ready For

In a world of fleeting fame, Pauline Quirke was something rare — real, raw, and endlessly human. As her husband’s heartbreaking words remind us, behind every icon lies a fragile story of love, loss, and time.

“I don’t know how to say goodbye,” he whispered. “So I just keep telling her I love her — hoping somewhere inside, she still knows.”

HEARTBREAKING: The REAL Reason Behind Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman’s Sudden Exit FINALLY UNVEILED — Fans Can’t Believe It’s TRUE.k

Strictly hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman have quit the show – but insiders say the real reason is far more explosive

Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman announced their departure (Image: bbd)

Strictly legends Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman are stepping away from the ballroom after years at the helm of the BBC’sbiggest entertainment show. The long-standing presenting duo announced they will bow out together to “go out at the top,” but sources now claim the move comes amid growing unease behind the scenes and fears of further scandals engulfing the series. In a move that stunned viewers, Tess and Claudia confirmed their departure in an emotional video, revealing they will present their final episode together on Christmas Day during the annual Strictly Come Dancing festive special.

The announcement was made mid-series, catching even members of the Strictly cast and crew off guard. According to insiders, the pair had quietly informed senior BBC bosses weeks ago, but chose to break the news directly to fans online. Many production staff were reportedly left stunned, learning the news at the same time as viewers when the video was posted online. A TV insider told The Mirror: “The feeling is Tess and Claudia wanted to go out at the top and whilst the show is still huge and shortly after they received MBEs.

“Announcing it mid series also gives them a bit of a swansong and doesn’t take the spotlight away from the winner.”

Another source suggested the timing wasn’t only about legacy, but strategic after a turbulent run for the show.

“The recent scandals around the show have also impacted the ratings a little bit and there might be more around the corner, so they weighed it up and feel it is the right time to quit,” they revealed.

Claudia’s career has skyrocketed thanks to her hit series The Traitors, which has made her one of the most in-demand presenters in British television.

“Claudia is right at her career peak with The Traitors and other TV offers flooding in,” the insider added.

As for Tess, sources say her decision is driven by a desire to reclaim time with her family after more than 20 years on the Strictly schedule: “Tess has been hosting the show for more than two decades and likes the idea of more weekends with her family and her friends.”

The presenters have always been fiercely loyal to each other, and their long-rumoured pact to leave together has now come to pass.

A second source close to them added: “They always said they would go together when they felt right and it just feels right this year.”

In a joint statement, the pair told fans: “We have loved working as a duo and hosting Strictly has been an absolute dream. We were always going to leave together and now feels like the right time.

“We will have the greatest rest of this amazing series and we just want to say an enormous thank you to the BBC and to every single person who works on the show. They’re the most brilliant team and we’ll miss them every day.”

They added: “We will cry when we say the last ‘keep dancing’ but we will continue to say it to each other. Just possibly in tracksuit bottoms at home while holding some pizza.”

Strictly Come Dancing’s Dianne Buswell and Joe Sugg have revealed that they’ve already picked the name for their unborn baby boy. The pair announced earlier this year that Dianne is pregnant with their first child – making her the first pregnant dancer on Strictly Come Dancing.

In a recent video, the Aussie dancer shared that announcing her pregnancy made her the “most nervous” she’d ever been. The couple, who have been together since they met on the hit BBC show in 2018, now regularly post videos to YouTube about their lives.

In a video posted on 27 October, they shared that they were the most nervous to share the news with their families, and that sharing it with their fans caused less anxiety. Answering fans questions, Dianne opened up about telling her parents. She said: “It was the most nervous I’d ever been. I was so nervous to tell people, I don’t know why. I almost put it off.”

Joe agreed that telling family was nerve-wracking. “I think it was because it was such a big life moment,” he said. Talking to the camera, he continued: “I was way more nervous to tell friends and family than I was to tell you lot.” Dianne added that her father thought they were joking and that Joe cried every time they told someone new.

The couple also shared in the video that they’ve already picked out a name for the baby boy, with Joe saying: “The name that we’ve come up with, we’re not going to share it. We can’t really give any clues to it other than I don’t really see this name really anywhere.

“I know some people who have it as their surname but it’s also the sort of name that can be shortened. I’d say it’s quite a unique name but it’s not unique as in-,” he said, with Dianne adding: “Apple or pear. It’s kind of like Joe, isn’t it? Cute when you’re little, you can call yourself Joseph when you’re older.”

Joe continued: “Or it could be a good sportsperson name. I’ve purposefully not said it out lout at all whereas Diane keeps calling him by that name. I do feel like between now and our due date, which is another thing I don’t think we’re going to share, I worry that we might end up revealing it by accident. From now on, he’s called Derek.”

In September, Dianne and Joe shared their baby news in a sweet video posted to Instagram. In it, they painted a picture and then turned the paper around to show the couple as stick people, along with a stick baby in the middle. They captioned the post: “Our little baby boy, we cannot wait to meet you.”

Later in their video, they shared that it was interesting that their son will be able to watch the moment his parents met. Dianne and Joe first met on Strictly Come Dancing in 2018 when they were partnered together on the hit BBC show.

The duo made it to the finale of the show, but lost out to Stacey Dooley and Kevin Clifton, who are also in a relationship and have a child together.

    View 3 Images

They also spoke about what it’s going to be like for their son to watch them meet for the first time(Image: ThatcherJoeVlogs/Youtube)

Because Dianne has continued to be a pro dancer on the show and was partnered with fellow Aussie Stefan Dennis this year, she is the first pregnant dancer to compete on the show.

Some fans were concerned about her continuing to dance while pregnant but she has hit back at those critics. She posted a video to Instagram over her doing a cartwheel.

Over the top, she wrote: “For all those people saying they can’t watch a pregnant girl dance! I just can’t help it when I hear the beat.”

A fan wrote in the comments: “I looove this! I think it’s so cool to see you still dancing!” Meanwhile, fellow dancer Kai Widdrington commented: “Tell ’em di.”

Unfortunately, Stefan had to pull out of the show following an injury, marking the end for Dianne’s Strictly journey this series as well. Though she continues to be seen dancing in pro numbers during the results show, those dances were filmed prior to the series beginning.

  • Verstappen’s Cold-Blooded Verdict on Norris’s Vegas Turn 1 Nightmare: “I Would Stay Ahead”

Verstappen’s Cold-Blooded Verdict on Norris’s Vegas Turn 1 Nightmare: “I Would Stay Ahead”

If Formula 1 is a high-speed game of chess, Max Verstappen just checkmated Lando Norris not only on the asphalt of the Las Vegas Strip but in the psychological war zone of the media pen.

Fresh off a commanding victory at the 2025 Las Vegas Grand Prix, the Red Bull champion didn’t just celebrate his win; he delivered a forensic and frankly savage dissection of the pivotal moment that decided the race—and perhaps the championship momentum.

The incident in question occurred mere seconds after the lights went out. Lando Norris, starting from pole position in his McLaren, attempted a bold, aggressive defense into Turn 1 to cover off Verstappen’s charge from second place. It was a move born of necessity and desperation, the kind of “punchy” driving Norris had promised. But it backfired spectacularly. Norris braked too late, locked his tires on the slippery, cold surface, and sailed wide, handing the lead—and ultimately the victory—to his Dutch rival on a silver platter.

While Norris was visibly crestfallen, admitting to the media that he “f***ed up” and found the error “pretty embarrassing,” Verstappen’s reaction was a study in icy confidence.

In a post-race interview that is already setting social media ablaze, Verstappen was asked for his thoughts on Norris’s failed defense. His response was a masterclass in backhanded compliments and supreme self-belief.

“Yeah, I mean it was a good try,” Verstappen began, his tone almost casual. “Good try to defend, but then of course it didn’t work out at the end because he braked too late.”

Verstappen then pinpointed exactly why Norris failed, diagnosing the mental error with surgical precision. “He was focused on me, looking in the mirror,” Verstappen explained. It’s a damning assessment: the idea that the challenger was so consumed by the champion in his mirrors that he forgot the fundamentals of the corner ahead.

But the real sting in the tail came when the interviewer pressed Verstappen on the tactic itself, noting that defending your position at the start is “what you normally should do.”

Verstappen didn’t miss a beat. “Yeah,” he agreed, before delivering the line that will haunt McLaren fans for weeks: “But then I would stay ahead, of course.

It was a savage, throwaway remark that perfectly encapsulates the difference between the two drivers at this stage of the season. Where Norris is driving with the weight of the world on his shoulders, forcing errors in critical moments, Verstappen is operating with a terrifying looseness. He isn’t just saying he would try to defend; he is stating, as a matter of fact, that he would have executed the move that Norris botched.

The “Luck” Factor and the Championship Mind Games

Despite his dominant performance on track, Verstappen played down his championship prospects in the interview, maintaining the narrative that he is still the underdog in the points tally.

“I know it’s a very big gap still, so we need a bit of luck to be in that championship fight,” Verstappen said, referencing the points deficit he faced coming into the weekend. “For me, it’s fine. Till the end of the year, I just want to try and have a good time and try to always maximize everything that we have in the car.”

This “relaxed” approach seems to be Verstappen’s greatest weapon. While Norris and McLaren are tightening up under the immense pressure of a title tilt, scrambling to minimize mistakes, Verstappen claims he is just out to “enjoy it.”

“It’s not something that I’m really stressed about or whatever,” he shrugged. “We just, yeah, try to enjoy it at the same time.”

When asked if he was having a good time in Vegas, the answer was a simple, smiling: “Yes. Or today, I would say yeah.”

    The Turn 1 Effect

The contrast between Norris’s self-flagellation and Verstappen’s breezy confidence is stark. Norris’s mistake at Turn 1 wasn’t just a driving error; it was a symptom of the immense pressure exerted by the Red Bull driver. By forcing Norris to look in his mirrors, Verstappen occupied the McLaren driver’s mental bandwidth before they even hit the braking zone.

Verstappen’s comments reinforce this dynamic. He knows Norris was watching him. He knows Norris panicked. And by publicly stating that he would have made the corner “of course,” he is twisting the knife, reinforcing the idea that when the pressure is highest, he is the one who delivers.

As the Formula 1 circus packs up and heads to the season finale in the Middle East, the points gap may be one thing, but the psychological gap feels like it’s widening. Norris has the car and the talent, but as Las Vegas proved, Verstappen has the headspace.

For Lando Norris, the lesson from Vegas is brutal but necessary: You cannot drive with one eye on Max Verstappen. Because if you do, Max Verstappen will not only pass you on the track—he’ll explain exactly how you messed up to the entire world afterwards.

And he’ll probably be smiling when he does it.

  • McLaren’s Las Vegas Nightmare: The Double Disqualification That Could Tear the Team Apart

McLaren’s Las Vegas Nightmare: The Double Disqualification That Could Tear the Team Apart

In the high-stakes world of Formula 1, fortunes can change in the blink of an eye. One moment, you are popping champagne and celebrating a hard-fought result; the next, you are staring into the abyss of a zero-point weekend. For McLaren, the Las Vegas Grand Prix was supposed to be another step toward consolidating their golden era. Instead, it became the setting for a technical and psychological drama that threatens to unravel the very fabric of the team.

The glitz and glamour of Las Vegas provided the perfect backdrop for a spectacle, but for the Woking-based squad, the lights went out long after the checkered flag had waved. In a shocking turn of events that has sent ripples through the paddock, both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were disqualified from the race, stripped of their hard-earned finishes due to a breach of the FIA’s stringent technical regulations.

The Brutal Verdict: A Matter of Millimeters

The unraveling began in the scrutineering bay, the place where engineering precision meets the unyielding rulebook. The FIA’s technical delegates discovered that the “plank”—the fiber skid block running underneath the chassis—had worn excessively on both McLaren MCL39s.

To the uninitiated, this might seem like a triviality. After all, cars spark and scrape against the asphalt constantly. But in F1, this plank is the ultimate arbiter of ride height legality. It starts at 10mm thick, and the rules allow for a tolerance of only one millimeter of wear. If it measures below 9mm at any of the designated check points, there is no appeal, no grey area, and no mercy.

The findings were damning. Norris’s car was below the limit at two points. Piastri’s situation was even worse, with three out of four points failing the test. The verdict was automatic: total disqualification. In an instant, a solid points haul evaporated, leaving McLaren with empty hands and a garage full of questions.

    The “Perfect Storm” of Failure

Unlike some controversies of the past, McLaren did not cry conspiracy. They did not point fingers at the FIA. Instead, they offered a sobering explanation for what they called a “perfect storm” of circumstances.

The team revealed that the dreaded “porpoising”—the aerodynamic bouncing that plagued the grid in previous years—had returned with a vengeance during the race. Crucially, this phenomenon hadn’t appeared in their simulations or during practice sessions. It ambushed them on race day, causing the cars to hammer the track surface violently, grinding away the plank at an alarming rate.

Compounding the issue was a lack of reliable data. The chaotic nature of the Vegas weekend, with its red flags, limited running, and evolving track conditions, meant the team was flying blind regarding the ideal ride height. They couldn’t dial in the suspension accurately for the heavy fuel loads of the race. Add to this accidental structural damage found on both cars, which increased the vertical motion, and you had a recipe for disaster.

The Sound of Silence: Piastri’s Chilling Reaction

While the technical explanation is sound, it is the human fallout that is arguably more fascinating—and potentially more dangerous—for McLaren’s future. In the immediate aftermath of such a catastrophe, one would expect anger, shouting, or at least visible despair.

Oscar Piastri, however, offered none of that.

The young Australian’s reaction has been described by insiders as “disconcertingly calm.” There were no tantrums, no throwing of helmets. Instead, Piastri delivered a brief, analytical message, acknowledging the failure but immediately pivoting to data. “We are looking for performance… and this time we were wrong,” he stated with a cold detachment that some find admirable and others find disturbing.

This “ice-cold” demeanor hints at a growing emotional distance. In a strange twist of fate, the double disqualification actually froze the points gap between him and his teammate, Norris. By losing a fourth-place finish, Piastri didn’t actually lose ground relative to Lando in their internal battle. In fact, keeping Norris from extending his lead might have been a silent, paradoxical victory in the complex mental game of F1 drivers.

The Mark Webber Factor: A Shield and a Sword

Enter Mark Webber. The former Red Bull driver and Piastri’s manager is no longer just a background figure in the hospitality suite. Following the Vegas debacle, Webber’s presence has become palpable. He has transformed into a strategic shield for his client, but also a critical voice against the team’s failings.

Webber knows all too well how internal team dynamics can destroy a driver’s psyche—his own history with Sebastian Vettel is proof enough. His increased involvement suggests that the Piastri camp is not willing to be passive victims of team errors. They are demanding accountability. This shifts the conflict from a simple technical error to a battle for trust, prominence, and power within the team structure.

    A Team at the Crossroads

As the F1 circus packs up and heads to the final rounds in Qatar and Abu Dhabi, McLaren stands on a precipice. The loss of points is painful, allowing rivals like Red Bull and Mercedes to smell blood in the water. But the real threat is to the team’s “soul.”

McLaren, the Constructor’s Champion of 2024, is now walking a tightrope. The camaraderie between Norris and Piastri, once the envy of the grid, is morphing into a fierce rivalry reminiscent of Hamilton and Rosberg or Prost and Senna. When technical control slips, as it did in Vegas, trust erodes. And without trust, even the fastest car on the grid cannot save a team from implosion.

The disqualification was a wake-up call. It exposed that beneath the polished surface of their recent success, fractures are forming. How Team Principal Andrea Stella manages these bruising egos and technical gremlins in the coming weeks will define not just the end of the 2025 season, but the trajectory of McLaren’s future.

In the desert nights of Qatar and Abu Dhabi, we will find out if McLaren can rebuild their foundation or if the sparks from Las Vegas were the first sign of a much larger fire. The technical error is fixed with a wrench; the human error requires a much more delicate touch. And right now, the silence in the McLaren motorhome speaks louder than any engine.

Panic in the Paddock: Are 2026 F1 Cars Really Slowing Down to F2 Speeds?

The Rumor That Shook Formula 1

Imagine paying top dollar for a ticket to the pinnacle of motorsport, only to watch cars that look and sound like Formula 1 machines but trundle around the track at the speed of a junior feeder series. That is the nightmare scenario that has recently gripped the F1 community, sparked by a controversial comment from Red Bull’s rising star, Isack Hadjar.

As the 2026 regulation overhaul looms closer, anxiety is building. The sport is preparing for its most significant technical shift in a decade, featuring new engines with a massive reliance on electrical power and radical “active aerodynamics.” But instead of excitement, the paddock is buzzing with a polarizing question: Will the new cars be embarrassingly slow?

    The “F2” Bombshell Explained

The hysteria began when Isack Hadjar, a likely contender for a 2026 Red Bull seat, stepped out of the driver-in-loop simulator with a worrying report. He suggested that, based on his virtual experience, the 2026 machinery feels alarmingly close to a Formula 2 car.

For the uninitiated, this is a devastating critique. In the current hierarchy of speed, F1 cars are the undisputed kings, boasting lap times that destroy anything else on four wheels. To suggest they are regressing to the level of F2—a series designed for developing young drivers with standardized, much slower cars—is almost heresy.

However, context is everything. Other drivers, like Aston Martin reserve Jack Crawford, have offered a more nuanced take. Crawford noted that while the driving style might mimic F2 due to reduced downforce in corners, he didn’t necessarily mean the pace was identical. Hadjar’s comments could simply be interpreted as the cars being “closer” to F2 than the current rocket ships we have today—which is technically true of almost any race car—but the damage was done. The headline was out: F1 might be losing its teeth.

Crunching the Numbers: A 14-Second Gap

To understand the gravity of these claims, we have to look at the data. At the Bahrain International Circuit, a standard benchmark for performance, the current generation of ground-effect F1 cars are roughly 10 to 14 seconds faster per lap than their F2 counterparts.

If Hadjar’s fears were taken literally, it would imply the 2026 rules are wiping out over a decade of engineering progress, stripping away 10 seconds of performance. That sounds ludicrous, but it isn’t entirely without precedent. When the hybrid turbo era began in 2014, the cars were significantly slower than their V8 predecessors, with the gap to the junior categories shrinking to just under six seconds. While we eventually clawed that speed back, the fear of a “reset” is real.

    The FIA Strikes Back

Formula 1’s governing body, the FIA, has been quick to pour cold water on the panic. Nikolas Tombazis, the FIA’s single-seater director, dismissed the F2 comparisons as “silly” and “way off the mark.”

According to the FIA’s simulations, the 2026 cars will indeed be slower, but not by a margin that would threaten F1’s status. Tombazis estimates a lap time increase of just one to two seconds compared to current speeds. If accurate, this would still leave F1 cars comfortably 12 seconds clear of F2 machinery in Bahrain—a safe distance that preserves the sport’s prestige.

Why Are They Slower? The Tech Breakdown

So, why the drop in speed at all? It comes down to the philosophy of the new rules. The 2026 regulations are prioritizing sustainability and racing quality over raw downforce.

The Engine Split: The new power units will feature a roughly 50/50 split between the internal combustion engine and electrical power. This requires massive energy harvesting and deployment strategies.

Active Aero: The cars will no longer have a simple DRS. Instead, they will feature movable wings on both the front and rear. These wings will open on straights to reduce drag (increasing top speed) and close in corners to provide grip.

Reduced Downforce: To make the cars smaller and lighter, they will generate less aerodynamic grip, forcing drivers to work harder in the corners—hence the “F2 feel” described by simulator drivers.

    The “Energy Poor” Nightmare

While the FIA is optimistic, engineers are identifying specific weak points. Paul Monahan, Red Bull’s chief engineer, highlighted the issue of “energy rich” versus “energy poor” circuits.

On tracks with heavy braking zones, the cars can easily recharge their expanded batteries. But on flowing tracks with fewer stops, the cars might run out of electrical juice, leading to a significant drop in pace. In these “energy poor” scenarios, the deficit to current cars could be much larger than the predicted one or two seconds.

    A Silver Lining for Racing?

There is a method to this madness. The FIA insists that this “small sacrifice” in speed is a necessary trade-off for better racing. The current ground-effect cars, introduced in 2022 to improve overtaking, have slowly degraded in their ability to follow one another.

Data shows that a 2025 car following 20 meters behind a rival loses significantly more downforce than the 2022 baseline. The 2026 rules aim to fix this permanently with “active aero” that is less sensitive to dirty air. If the new cars are slightly slower but produce wheel-to-wheel combat reminiscent of karting, fans might forgive the drop in lap times.

    The Wet Weather Worry

However, unresolved issues remain. One major headache is how these transformer-like cars will handle the rain. In dry conditions, active aero reduces drag on straights. But in the wet, low drag means low downforce, which could be dangerous.

The FIA is currently scrambling to tweak the rules, ensuring that safety isn’t compromised. Discussions are ongoing about restricting the use of the “low drag” mode in wet conditions to prevent cars from losing grip or damaging their floors due to the immense forces pushing them into the track.

    The Verdict

As we approach the post-season tests in Abu Dhabi, where “mule cars” will give us our first real-world glimpse of the 2026 tire compounds, the debate rages on. Will 2026 be a humiliating step backward for F1 speed, or a masterstroke that sacrifices lap records for the sake of better racing?

One thing is certain: Isack Hadjar’s comments have ensured that everyone will be watching the stopwatch closer than ever. Formula 1 is about to change forever, and we can only hope it doesn’t slow down too much in the process.

Las Vegas Heartbreak: McLaren’s Double Disqualification Shock Blows 2025 Title Fight Wide Open

It was poised to be the weekend Lando Norris finally put one hand on the World Drivers’ Championship trophy. Instead, the glitz and glamour of the Las Vegas Grand Prix descended into a midnight nightmare for McLaren, resulting in a catastrophic double disqualification that has sent shockwaves through the Formula 1 paddock and reignited a title battle that seemed all but over.

In the early hours of Monday morning, long after the champagne had dried and the fans had drifted away from the Strip, the FIA dropped a bombshell ruling. Both Lando Norris and his teammate Oscar Piastri were stripped of their race results due to technical infringements. The culprit? Excessive wear on the skid blocks—the wooden planks underneath the car that mandate ride height.

    From Ecstasy to Agony

For Lando Norris, the emotional whiplash must be excruciating. Leaving the track, he held a commanding 42-point lead over Max Verstappen with just two races remaining. His performance on the streets of Vegas had been masterful, and with Piastri’s form acting as a perfect rear-gunner, the Constructor’s and Driver’s titles looked destined for Woking.

But the “Formula 1 Gods,” as they say, were not finished with the script. The post-race technical inspection revealed that the skid blocks on both MCL38s were below the minimum required thickness. In F1, this is a slam-dunk penalty. There is no grey area. If the plank is worn down beyond the limit, you are out.

“It’s a crash back to earth,” an insider commented. “Norris went from feeling on top of the world to discovering his title charge is suddenly in mortal danger.”

The Sparks That Told a Story

Retrospectively, the signs were there for all to see. Throughout the 50-lap race, both McLaren cars were emitting spectacular showers of sparks, particularly down the colossal Las Vegas Strip straight. While visually stunning for the fans, for engineers, it was a warning sign: the cars were running too low.

McLaren has since issued a statement attributing the issue to an unexpected return of “porpoising”—the aerodynamic bouncing phenomenon that plagued teams in previous seasons. The team suggested that setup changes intended to combat tire graining, combined with a lack of dry practice running due to bad weather, led them to an aerodynamic configuration that forced the cars into the ground more aggressively than predicted.

“We are investigating the reasons for this behavior,” the team stated, noting that the breach was unintentional. However, in a sport measured by millimeters, intentions account for little against the rulebook.

    Did Rivals Blow the Whistle?

The most sensational twist in this saga, however, isn’t just the mechanical failure—it’s the rumor mill grinding into overdrive regarding how the FIA caught wind of the issue so quickly.

Whispers from the paddock suggest that rival teams may have tipped off the governing body. Following the Brazilian Grand Prix, speculation was rife about teams using “heat-expanding titanium skid plates” to artificially protect the wooden plank from wearing down, allowing them to run cars illegally low for better performance.

While there is no confirmation that McLaren was using such a device, the heightened scrutiny on ride heights meant the FIA was watching closely. The excessive sparking in Vegas likely acted as a beacon, inviting the technical delegates to take a closer look. If rivals did indeed lobby for a stricter check, their gamesmanship has paid off in spectacular fashion.

The Title Fight is Back On

The consequences of this double DQ cannot be overstated. Norris’s comfortable cushion has evaporated. His lead over Verstappen has plummeted to just 24 points. With two races and a Sprint still to go, the momentum has swung violently.

Max Verstappen, who looked resigned to losing his crown just 24 hours ago, has been gifted a lifeline. The Dutchman is now technically level on points with Piastri (though behind on countback) and is breathing down Norris’s neck. Psychologically, the pressure has shifted entirely to the Briton. Verstappen has nothing to lose and everything to gain, a dangerous position for a driver of his caliber.

“Max will feel like he can win from this position,” analysts predict. “He knows that all he has to do is go out and perform. The pressure is all on Lando now.”

    A Nervous Finale in Qatar

As the circus packs up and heads to Qatar for the penultimate round, the atmosphere within McLaren will be tense. They have committed an “astronomical” error at the most critical moment of the season. To throw away a near-guaranteed championship with a technical oversight is the stuff of nightmares for a racing team.

Norris must now regroup. He needs to navigate the high-speed curbs of Lusail without letting the ghosts of Vegas haunt his driving. If he crumbles, Verstappen is ready to pounce. The 2025 season was supposed to be winding down; instead, it has just exploded into life.

Buckle up. The final lap of this championship is going to be a wild ride.
