Vernon Kay dubs first Oasis show ‘gig of a lifetime’ as he reveals major hope for the tour

EXCLUSIVE: Radio 2 DJ Vernon Kay was left in no doubt that the Oasis Cardiff comeback show was epic, with the broadcaster revealing how the big reunion tour could lift the country’s mood

Radio and TV host Vernon Kay said he thought the Oasis tour could have the ability to “elevate the mood of the nation” if the gigs continue to be epic events on sunny weekends.

Vernon was one of the famous faces who headed to Cardiff for the comeback gig in Cardiff on Friday night, the first Oasis show in almost 16 years which saw Liam and Noel Gallagher hold hands on stage.

Speaking a little croakily on the phone, Radio 2 DJ Vernon Kay told the Mirror: “As you can probably tell by my voice, Oasis was epic.

“It was everything that you expected it to be. No, I’ll rephrase that, It was everything that you wanted it to be.

“We expected greatness, and we got fantastic. It was a gig of a lifetime, especially I think for all those people who have just got into Oasis.

“There were a lot of young people there. There were a couple of lads next to us who hadn’t been drinking because they wanted to savour every moment, and they had their first pint at the end because it was this big a moment they wanted to savour for every second. And rightly so.

“It was superb. They played all the tunes that you wanted them to play, 23 in total, I think it was. And it just makes you realise that Oasis are as good as everyone talks up Oasis to be. They were brilliant.”

He added: “Liam’s voice was probably the best it’s been in a long, long time. Whatever he’s been doing, whatever training, whatever warm ups, whatever vocal coaching he’s been taking is absolutely working, so good. Noah was fab as always.

“It was just a great gig, hit after hit after hit. The atmosphere was really positive. And I’ve been saying on the radio that if the weather is great, this Oasis tour is really going to elevate the mood of the nation and the majority, I think all of the reviews have been fantastic, and rightly so. Oasis are back and long may continue.”

Vernon, who will celebrate his Radio 2 show from Heaton this Friday to celebrate Oasis playing there this weekend, was not the only celebrity to sing the praises of the Oasis tour opening night in Cardiff

Noel Gallagher’s daughter Anais posted a photo of Noel and Liam and wrote: “Best night of my life,” next to it.

She also showed a photo off herself in one of the new Oasis Adidas football shirts and quoting Oasis lyrics said: “It’s good to be back.” She had been seen hugging her dad just minutes before he went on stage.

Noel’s ex-wife Meg Matthews, mother of Anais, was also there. She wrote on instagram: “Five stars loved every minute thank you Oasis. Great to see all the old faces. It was worth the countdown. What a night.”

Strictly Come Dancing star Dianne Buswell paid tribute to her grandfather after he died aged 99. The professional dancer took to her Instagram page to share a compilation video of her hanging out with him. In the first clip, she surprised him with a visit as he exclaimed: “Well, I’ll be,” when he spotted her.

She also shared a video of them strolling down the hallway as she joked: “Gonna have a race with me.” Captioning the post, Dianne wrote: “Rest in peace pop [heart emojis] you were 99 years young [praying hands emoji], thank you for all the stories and I just know you will be up there dancing with Nan already.”

Her grandfather’s death comes a few weeks after Dianne’s grandma died. In March, she shared a number of clips of her nan and said: “Rest in peace nan. Love you very much.

“I’m so grateful I was home to say goodbye to such a special lady in my life. Now go be with pop he has been patiently waiting for you.”

In April last year, she took to her social media to reveal her father, Mark, finished chemotherapy after 12 rounds of treatment.

Dianne told followers: “To my daddy you did it 6 months later and 12 rounds done. I am so so PROUD of you it’s been a tough road but you have always done it with a smile and a thumbs up. I know you were scared and I know it was not easy but you have done it.”

She added: “I wish so much I could be there right now and just cuddle you. You’re my hero and you have made me realise we all have so much more strength then we think.

“And to my beautiful mum who has not left your side and been the best support system ever thank you. Us kids are so lucky to have you both we love you so much.

“Now we need to book that trip in back to UK for the both of you.”

Made In Chelsea star ‘doesn’t recognise herself’ since leaving show

Former Made In Chelsea castmate Jessica Woodley opens up about her pregnancy journey – and swapping the show’s dramas for a quiet life in ‘magical’ Ireland with her filmmaker partner

    Jessica Woodley
Jessica’s life is a million miles away now from the posh Chelsea set(Image: Instagram)

Former Made In Chelsea star Jessica Woodley no longer recognises the version of herself that appeared on the E4 show about London’s exclusive social set a decade ago. Now aged 30, the reality star-turned-sculptor says she’s more self-aware and, as she prepares to become a mother for the first time, feels ‘‘more power as a woman”.

Jessica, who joined the reality series in 2015 — and dated Jamie Laing before quitting in 2017 — revealed last month that she was expecting a baby with her filmmaker partner, Mark Logan. Chatting exclusively to OK! from the Irish countryside they now call home, Jessica explains why life has changed so dramatically for her…

The star is expecting her first child with filmmaker partner, Mark(Image: Instagram)

Jessica! Congratulations on your pregnancy. How have you been?

Thank you! My first trimester was tricky, and I am definitely experiencing nausea, even at 28 weeks, but it’s all teaching me newfound resilience. I feel like I’m gaining strength throughout this pregnancy. It can be hard at times, physically and emotionally, but Mark is so supportive. I don’t know if I could do this without him.

Have you always wanted to have kids?

I always hoped to be a mother. I wouldn’t say we were trying to get pregnant, but we were delighted. Pleasantly surprised. From that moment on, I’ve felt quite high.

Have you had any unusual cravings?

Salt and vinegar crisps are getting me through. And I love Medjool dates, they are heaven on earth. I also make masala chai every morning. It really warms my stomach, and actually soothes the nausea. I’m doing yoga and a bit of Pilates. And our dog, Bloom, gets me outside.

What kind of mum do you hope to be?

I’m very aware that this child is going to be my teacher, I really respect that we learn a lot from children. I’m excited by this feeling of nurture — it’s so strong. I worry less now, too, and I used to be such a worrier. I’d come up with hypothetical worries, make up scenarios in my head, and then get scared. I’ve learned how to self-regulate, and I hope that will help me as a mum.

Jessica and Mark are now based in Ireland(Image: Instagram)

How did you meet Mark? Was there an instant connection?

The second I met Mark, I felt like I remembered him. Like I had met him before, like he was already my best friend. I think I’d been searching for him for quite a long time. We both believe in devotion. So I’ve found love brings you together, but devotion keeps you together. I didn’t see him coming, but I am so glad he’s here.

And how has Mark been throughout your pregnancy so far?

He’s been so supportive and bought me all the salt and vinegar crisps I desire! He’s really cheeky and funny, which has helped me so much. Laughter has helped me and continues to help me. We’re living in Ireland now — initially I was nervous to move to another country, but I find Irish people quite magical, and it just feels right being here.

It’s quite a transformation from your Made In Chelsea days…

You know, I feel very grateful for that period of time because if it wasn’t for that, I wouldn’t have experienced solitude to the degree I did, and I wouldn’t have looked inside myself as much as I did. I’m really thankful for that time I perceived as difficult, but now I perceive as a gift. I actually don’t recognise myself any more. I’m less ignorant, I am more self-aware, and I have a deeper understanding. I feel much more in my power as a woman than I did then.

Do you keep in touch with any Made In Chelsea cast members?

I speak to Alex Mytton, I think he’s an angel, he’s just fab. And I sometimes speak to Jamie Laing, that’s it. We haven’t spoken since the pregnancy announcement [Jamie and his wife Sophie Habboo recently revealed they are expecting a baby], but I can’t wait to talk to him.

Jess woodley in made in chelsea

Would you ever do reality TV again?

I wouldn’t say no. If it was in alignment with where I’m at, then yeah, maybe…

How has it been navigating pregnancy at the same time as launching your sculpture collection, Gliffy?

We were really focusing on Gliffy and then I found out I was pregnant, and we were like, “This is actually really beautiful.” It’s amazing to have these two things that I care about so much come about at the same time. I was slightly nervous about it, because I thought, “Oh, is the timing incorrect? Is this going to get in the way of anything?” But actually, it’s been the total opposite. I found that they really complement each other, because my collection was kind of about the inner child, and it felt like my baby.

How did your journey into making sculptures start?

I would say I started this journey of self-discovery and self-inquiry in lockdown, because, like a lot of people, I was forced to be alone. I had to figure out what it was that made me happy and made me feel good, and it forced me into solitude.

I found that there was something inside me that was really childlike and playful, and I was suppressing that. I was really lucky to come in contact with an artist, and I was really inspired by the fact that this person was using their imagination to create form in the real world. I was like, “Yeah, I want to try that.” Having to overcome the fear of not knowing what I’m doing and the fear of failure was interesting. That in itself was a journey.

Coleen Nolan has been single since late last year and exclusively reveals what she thinks about dating again, and why she doesn’t want anyone’s ‘toothbrush in her bathroom’ again

Loose Women legend Coleen Nolan has opened up about getting back on the dating scene after splitting up from her ex, Michael Jones, late last year. The TV legend had been dating her ex since 2001, but the pair decided they “would rather just stay friends,” Coleen said, and they went their separate ways.

After the split, Coleen said: “It’s nothing to do with anyone else, it’s nobody’s fault. But I’m really busy and when I’m not really busy with work I’m busy on the farm and I feel personally that I can’t give time to everything. We still get along great and hopefully we can continue to be friends, who knows?”

    Coleen Nolan

While she’s still officially single, Coleen said she’d “probably date again”, but was waiting for the right time – and the right person to come along. “The men I meet are either married or gay, so I’ve no hope in the industry I’m in,” she exclusively told OK!. “And I don’t go out to bars, unless they’re serving me a cup of tea.”

For now, Coleen’s focus is her farm – and 30-odd animals – as well as her new YouTube channel which gives viewers a glimpse of the highs and lows of living on a smallholding. With limited time for dating, Coleen doesn’t rule out signing up to a dating app to find her perfect match.

“Apparently, there’s one that’s aimed at country folk, called Muddy Matches, so that’ll be the one I try when I’m up for it,” she says.

But whoever I date, I’m not sure I want their toothbrush in my bathroom. I’ve been in relationships my whole life and I’m enjoying having my house to myself, not worrying about anyone else.”

    Coleen Nolan
She is now living by herself on a farm – and sharing the experience on YouTube(Image: Instagram/ @coleen_nolan)

Coleen, who was once married to EastEnders actor Shane Richie, followed by musician Ray Fensome, says she doesn’t’ necessarily miss “sex”, but the odd bit physical affection would be welcome.

“I do miss hugging and kissing, but not necessarily sex. That said, if I meet him and I fancy him, he’s getting it! You can’t beat a good snog and there’s only so many times I can kiss my boxer dog’s crinkly face.”

Double dating with her Loose Women colleague Ruth Langsford, who separated from her husband Eamonn Holmes last year, is also not currently an option, she added.

“Ruth’s definitely not going on dates yet. I’m trying to force her into it but she’s not having it. And I think she’d be a terrible wingwoman — she’d be too severe and say, ‘No, you’re not right, get away!’”

  • Brooklyn Beckham feels he ‘doesn’t fit into family’ as Harper’s ‘heartbroken’ over rift

Brooklyn Beckham feels he ‘doesn’t fit into family’ as Harper’s ‘heartbroken’ over rift

As it looks like Brooklyn Beckham will be a no-show for Harper’s 14th birthday this week, a source explains why his loyalties are split between his family and his wife Nicola Peltz

    Brooklyn Beckham
Brooklyn is expected to be missing from another Beckham birthday this week, a source claims(Image: Charles Sykes/Bravo via Getty Images)

It’s celebration time again in the Beckham household this week, but one particular member of the once tightknit family is expected not to be joining in the fun. Harper, the youngest of David and Victoria’s children, turns 14 on Thursday and a source claimed that, with talk of the family feud escalating further, Brooklyn is expected to be missing from the Beckhams’ festivities once again.

Talk of tensions between Brooklyn and his wife Nicola Peltz with his mum and dad started in 2022 around the time of Brooklyn and Nicola’s wedding – and there are no signs of it ending any time soon. Brooklyn, 26, spent a recent weekend celebrating the birthday of Nicola’s billionaire dad, who she called “most loving father”, just a few weeks after missing his own dad’s star-studded 50th bash at Notting Hill restaurant, Core.

    Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz

Our source said that while the family fallout is mainly between Brooklyn and his parents, his younger siblings – including birthday girl Harper – have sadly become collateral damage.

“Harper’s been particularly affected by what’s going on because she’s always been really close to Brooklyn,” claimed the source. “They’ve always had a lovely bond because Brooklyn was that bit older when Harper was born and the hope when Brooklyn married Nicola was that she’d become like a big sister to Harper in a house full of brothers.

“But obviously that hasn’t happened and it’s potentially going to be heartbreaking for Harper if Brooklyn doesn’t show up for her on her birthday.”

As Brooklyn and his model and actress wife celebrated financier Nelson Peltz’s 83rd birthday with Nicola’s family in Bedford, New York, Victoria, 51, and David, 50, were back at home in the UK.

    David and Harper Beckham

Nicola, 30, later posted a snap to her social media of herself with her dad and Brooklyn, and wrote a gushing tribute to Nelson which said, “I am so lucky to be your daughter, you’re the most loving and supportive father I could ever dream of… Thank you for always being there for us – our constant love and support.”

If Brooklyn fails to acknowledge his little sister’s birthday in any significant way, it will become the latest in a string of family events that have so far failed to repair the Beckham rift. After missing David’s pre-birthday celebrations in the Cotswolds and Paris, Brooklyn and Nicola were also absent from his star-studded dinner party at the Michelin-starred west London restaurant.

David was joined by some of his closest showbiz pals, including Tom Cruise, Eva Longoria and Guy Ritchie, and was treated to a performance by son Cruz, 20, on his guitar, while Romeo, 22, was tasked with the job of carrying in David’s cake.

    David and Harper Beckham
Brooklyn was missing from his dad’s 50th birthday bash(Image: Getty Images)

Given that Brooklyn also failed to acknowledge his father’s big milestone on any of his social media channels, our source claimed the chances of him “showing up for Harper” are looking pretty slim.

“A teenage birthday is a big deal for any child and in the past they’ve always tried to do things together as a family,” said the source. “Victoria would like nothing more than for Brooklyn to show up to celebrate with them all, but it’s not looking likely at all.

“He took a stand and missed his dad’s 50th so he’s not likely to suddenly do a U-turn and forget everything that’s happened, as much as he loves Harper. But if he did, it could a much-needed olive branch to start repairing things. An end to the family drama would be the best birthday present Harper – and her parents – could ask for.”

The couple celebrated Nicola’s dad’s birthday in New York(Image: @nicolaannepeltzbeckham/Instagram)

There’s been plenty of family affection flying around on the Beckhams’ social media channels – just none from Brooklyn directed towards his own parents. He appeared to twist the knife further when he posted a birthday tribute to Nelson, after snubbing his own father’s special day.Last month, Brooklyn also publicly marked the five-year anniversary of his marriage proposal to Nicola, saying it was his “best decision ever”. Our source claimed it’s becoming increasingly obvious that Brooklyn’s loyalties don’t lie with his parents and siblings, but adds that it isn’t surprising given he is now married.

“He didn’t want it to turn out this way and he’s always been really close to all his siblings, but he is a married man now and his priorities have to lie somewhere else,” said the source.

“He just doesn’t feel his family have treated Nicola well and now that he’s grown so close to her family in the States, he doesn’t really feel like he fits into the Beckham family right now. If Harper’s wish is to have her brother at home for her big day, sadly, she’s probably going to be disappointed.”

  • Frank Lampard’s staggering net worth, lucky meeting with wife Christine, £10m mansion

The lowdown on Chelsea and England legend Frank Lampard’s life, including his net worth, romance with TV presenter wife Christine and his latest crack at football management

    Frank and Christine Lampard

Frank Lampard is one of the most celebrated figures in English football.

He is revered for his exploits with Chelsea, where he won a host of honours, including the Premier League and the Champions League. Lampard also excelled for England, scoring 29 times in 106 appearances for the Three Lions.

His transition into management has been a mixed bag, with spells at Derby County, Chelsea (twice), Everton and now Coventry City. But unlike fellow international colleagues Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney, he remains in work.

Naturally, he has amassed a sizeable fortune, part of which he has spent on a lavish home, which he shares with his TV presenter wife Christine and their children. Here’s the lowdown on his fortune, life with Christine and how he’s revitalised his managerial career…

What is Frank Lampard’s net worth?

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Lampard has an estimated fortune of around £75million. The website also claims he earned an annual salary of £9.6million at Everton, although this figure has never been officially verified.

According to Total Sportal, a sports-focused website, Lampard’s Everton contract was valued at £15million, including a signing bonus and various other incentives, many of which weren’t triggered as the Toffees sacked him in January 2023. He briefly returned to Chelsea at the end of the 2022/23 season for an unsuccessful but presumably well-paid spell as interim manager.

When did Frank Lampard meet Christine?

There was an element of fate about Frank and Christine getting together. They first met back in October 2009 at the Pride of Britain awards.

Christine, then Bleakley, almost didn’t make it to the awards ceremony as she had just been hosting The One Show. Speaking on Loose Women about meeting her hubby, she recalled: “I am very, very glad we met when we did, it was definitely about timing for us.”

It turned out Lampard was a fan of the BBC show she co-hosted with Adrian Chiles, although Christine wasn’t convinced at first. She once said: “Frank came over to me and said, ‘I watch you on The One Show’. I said, ‘No you don’t! Who was my guest last night?’

     Frank Lampard and Christine Lampard

“And he was able to tell me! I just laughed and we both giggled about it. Then that was it. He somehow got my number, and I had a withheld number call my phone on the way home. I picked up and it was him.

“I said ‘Wow, you’re keen!’ as a bit of a joke and we chatted. He said he enjoyed meeting me and would like to stay in touch. It was very relaxed.”

The pair got married in 2015 and have two children together, Patricia and Freddie. Patricia is named after Frank’s late mother. He also has two older children from a previous relationship with Elen Rivas, Luna and Isla.

    Where does Frank Lampard live?

The Lampards share a stunning £10million mansion in London. During an episode of Loose Women, Christine provided viewers with a glimpse of her home life.

Christine occasionally shares snaps from inside the family home(Image: Instagram/christinelampard)

She revealed that she has her very own “she shed” in the garden where she goes to get some peace and quiet. She said: “It’s tiny but I walked into it the other day and thought, ‘this could be a good hiding place’ – even just a little five minutes.”

Judging by pictures posted to Instagram, the home appears to have a monochrome feel with bright white walls as part of a modern theme. The kitchen features white glossy wall-to-ceiling cabinets with numerous integrated appliances. It also boasts ample space for meal preparation and a large kitchen island.

    Who does Frank Lampard manage?

Lampard has revived both Coventry and his own managerial career in the Championship. He had a tough act to follow in replacing club legend Mark Robins, who had led the Sky Blues from the fourth tier to the brink of the Premier League – losing in the 2023 play-off final – and an FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United last season.

Lampard was already well versed in the second tier, having guided Derby to the play-off final in 2019. And he has put that experience to good use by lifting Coventry to within one point and one place from the play-off zone heading into the weekend.Speaking after the midweek win over Sheffield Wednesday, Lampard said: “For the work we’ve done over these last two months and where we are trying to get to, sometimes a game just challenges you in a different way. This one did and the players dug in and we went at it at the end.”

Janet Street-Porter revealed that she opts for one fruit or a quick snack over dessert at home

Janet revealed her thoughts this week on Loose Women(Image: LightRocket via Getty Images)

Janet Street-Porter has been labelled ‘really annoying’ by Loose Women co-stars after revealing the one thing she never eats. Remarkably, the 78-year-old said she rarely enjoys a dessert when relaxing at home and instead opts for just two squares of chocolate.

“I would never, ever eat a dessert at home,” she said on an episode of the ITV show this week. “Hardly ever.” Taken aback, co-star Linda Robson then asked: “What if you went out? Would you have a dessert then?”

To which, Janet replied: “I wouldn’t be rushing to order one because what I think is… I mean, what I tend to do is I would have a bar of chocolate that is more than 70% and I’d break off two squares.

“And then, I would only eat that after I’ve eaten the tangerines. So, what I do is sit down —” Kaye Adams, also on the panel, interjected: “You are really annoying.” Laughing, Janet quipped: “I know, can you see my halo?”

This isn’t the first time Janet has opened up about her healthy eating habits. While the TV star doesn’t believe in ‘diets’, she likes making food from scratch and eating everything in ‘moderation’.

In 2017, she told the Mirror: “I don’t believe in diets. I am not a fan of banning wheat, dairy or alcohol – I hate the word ‘ban’. I eat everything. But we should be eating food we’ve made from scratch. I love a good fish and chips every now and again, but just don’t have a huge plate.

“Childhood obesity is happening because we don’t have enough cookery lessons in schools. They need to begin as soon as kids start school and kids need to be shown that it’s fun. Cooking teaches you to be calm, how to measure things out and it slows you down.”

Janet is by no means the only Loose Women star to opt for a healthy lifestyle either. Ruth Langsford, 64, posts various superfood recipes on Instagram, including an ‘upside down salad’ that has impressed fans.

“So, basically, I put everything in layers in one of these [glass tubs], which means that when I tip it out the lettuce is on the bottom and everything else that I want is in layers,” she explained in a video last September. “Anyway, you get the gist.

“So, basically I put kitchen roll in the bottom [of the tub] because then any kind of juices from the tomatoes and cucumber soak a bit into that, so the whole salad doesn’t get soggy.”

In the caption, she also added: “I take this to work most days….stops me grabbing unhealthy, processed food. Even when you make a healthy choice and buy a salad, in my experience, they’re mostly leaves!!

“This way you get a good, decent portion salad and you get to put all the things you like in it!”

Loose Women’s Gloria Hunniford reveals heartbreaking reason why she still needs to work at 84

Grieving Loose Women star Gloria Hunniford declares she “happy to be alive” as she releases a new pop album at the age 84 – just six months after losing her beloved husband Stephen Way

At 84, Gloria Hunniford has earned a break.

She was just seven when she earned her first pay day as a singer in her native Ireland. And in the 77 years since she has barely stopped.

Now a Loose Women regular and one of the hosts of BBC’s Rip Off Britain, she’s a staple on our screens each week.

But it isn’t just her passion for righting wrongs and fighting charlatans that is driving her to keep working.

In an exclusive interview, she reveals it’s actually the only thing that can s ave her from her grief. So she determined to do what it takes to keep busy.

It’s been 21 years since she lost daughter Caron Keating to cancer – and just six months since she lost her husband Stephen Way, aged 85, after 30 years together.

“Work makes me feel safe, because I have a structure, I know what I’m supposed to be doing,” she explains. “All the emotional stuff and all the heartbreak, that’s the hard bit to cope with.

“As long as you can take your [self] away from grief for an hour it helps clear your mind for a little while.”

She adds: “I’ve worked since I was seven and for me doing things and keeping busy is good for my head. To do nothing would be miserable for me. My way of coping wouldn’t be for everybody and I’m sure it’s quite controversial, but I love work.”

It’s been especially vital these past few months. Gloria – who turns 85 on April 10 – is currently experiencing a year of firsts without her beloved “Stevie” : the first Christmas, first birthday, first anniversary….

She and the businessman were together since the mid-1990s and married in 1998, six years after her divorce from the father of her three children Don Keating.

“Some of my worst times when Caron passed and also when Stevie passed were if I was at home on my own,” she reveals. “And suddenly your mind wanders and you think: ‘what happened there, for goodness’ sake?’.”

It was a similarly poignant reason that prompted Gloria to take part in Strictly Come Dancing in 2005, a year after losing Caron, aged just 41. While Gloria’s Rumba was given just two points by notoriously-harsh Craig Revel Horwood, she still loved it. “When Caron died, I said: ‘I don’t think I’ll ever smile again’,” Gloria recalls. “One of my sons found that very sad, so when Strictly came up, they said: ‘look, it’ll be good for you.’

“And it was. It gave me something to laugh about, it was a challenge, the people were lovely and the glitter was lovely; it was helpful.

“One of the hardest aspects of grief is when you lose a child. You cannot carry a baby for nine months, love that child and not feel the incredible pain at losing that child. It’s indescribable.”

While Gloria clearly relishes trying something new – this spring will see her competing in Celebrity Bake Off – she is best known as a regular panellist on the ITV lunchtime chat show Loose Women, as well as for her campaigning work on the acclaimed BBC consumer series Rip Off Britain, which she has presented for the past 16 years, currently alongside Julia Somerville and Louise Minchin.

Rightly proud of both programmes, she hopes to still be working on them at 90. “It depends whether the producers would still want me when I was heading towards 90, but I’ve no plans to retire,” she says.

“Work may retire me, or I may be unlucky enough to have some pain or ache or a situation where I can’t do it, but give or take, I want to do it for as long as they want me.”

Gloria is, after all, determined to wring every moment of joy out of her days. “I’m glad to still be alive,” she explains when thinking about her upcoming birthday. “The years go by so bloody quickly.

“I don’t like the zeros – 60, 70 and 80, but once that zero has passed, you just continue.

“I try not to think about age too much.

“But then sometimes I hear myself mentioning it, like when the gas company are supposed to read my meter.

“I say: ‘I am in my 80s you know, I’m in a vulnerable category.’ There comes a point when you start using it for yourself!”

She’s certainly not letting her age put her off her ambitions.

In the 1980s she spent eight years at the helm of the popular chat show Sunday, Sunday, where she interviewed a host of A-list stars, from Audrey Hepburn and Doris Day to Charlton Heston. More than 40 years on she would love to do it again.

“We had every Hollywood star that you can think of,” she smiles. “I loved talking to people, so if somebody thought that there was a chat show in an 80-something I would be so thrilled!”

Meanwhile Gloria’s latest venture sees her re-releasing her 1979 studio album A Taste of Hunni. Fans of ITV’s The Masked Singer will remember her impressive vocals on the show in 2022 as Snow Leopard, but she actually began singing in her native Northern Ireland as a child.

“My dad worked for newspapers by day and he was a magician by night and when I was seven, he asked me to join him,” she says. “They were called concert parties and we’d perform in church halls, town halls and schools. There was no TV then, so that was everyone’s entertainment.”

Gloria released several singles during the 60s and 70s and even supported Roy Orbison when he toured her native Northern Ireland in 1969.

A decade later she recorded A Taste of Hunni, a collection of popular songs, including Feelings, You Are The Sunshine of My Life and What the World Needs Now. Today, 46 years later, she’s just thrown a lavish album launch party with the likes of Sir Cliff Richard to celebrate its re-release. She will know how it charts by the end of the week.

“To have a record out at this stage of my life is so exciting,” she smiles. “Mind you, there are some records I made in Ireland that I’d pay anybody to bury and never be seen again!

“But actually, I’m really pleased with this one – the song choice is good, the musicians are good, the arrangements are good and I could really sing in those days.

“So many memories are tied up in this album. It feels like my life has come full circle, so it’s a real thrill to have it re-released.”

It was following a BBC interview in Belfast about her singing career that Gloria ended up switching careers. Out of the blue they offered her a job in broadcasting, with her new boss telling her: ‘Remember, you’re as good as any bloke in this room.’ “That took away any worry that I might have had about sexism,” she recalls.

After starting in Ulster, she moved to London and became the first woman to have her own Radio 2 show. A host of programmes followed before she joined Loose Women a decade ago.

“I love the camaraderie,” she says of the daytime show. “I enjoy the meetings in the morning as much as the air-time – it’s much naughtier than anything that goes on air!”

Work may be Gloria’s emotional crutch, but she also knows her family are there to lean on when things get really hard.

Her sons Paul and Michael were vital in helping her through her painful first Christmas without Stevie.

“I was dreading Christmas because Stevie and I had 30 Christmases together, but my boys really saved the festive season,” says Gloria, who lives in Kent..

“The youngest one Michael did Christmas and my two grandchildren from Caron were able to spend three days with us. Then for New Year we all went to France and then Fort Lauderdale for a week and sat in the sun. My sons organised all of that, which was really kind.

“I think as you get older you really appreciate your children more and more. My two boys have been so amazing since Stephen died. Having children was the best thing I ever did in my life.”

Britain Got Talent’s Alesha Dixon reveals mum’s 5-word response to ‘disgusting’ act

Britain’s Got Talent viewers were left squirming during Saturday’s show thanks to controversial act Auzzy Blood – and now Alesha Dixon has addressed the backlash on Loose Women

Britain’s Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon has addressed the controversial contestant that caused viewers to “switch off” the TV on Saturday night, revealing that her mum wasn’t a big fan either.

The ITV talent competition kicked off on Saturday night, with Alesha returning to the judging panel alongside Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and guest KSI. However, many viewers were left horrified by professional sword swallower Auzzy Blood, who took to the stage with a graphic performance that involved placing various objects through his nose.

Specialising in extreme body manipulation, Auzzy Blood performed a series of dangerous tricks which left many fans complaining on social media. “Auzzy Blood probably the most disturbing thing I’ve seen! what makes someone think I’m going to try and shove a metal hook up my nose,” one viewer wrote. Another said: “AUZZY BLOOD on BGT was disgusting, not entertainment, pre watershed and a terrible example to children watching a supposed family show.”

Now, judge Alesha has spoken out about the act after hitting her buzzer during his audition. Appearing on Loose Women this afternoon, Alesha revealed that she couldn’t watch as Auzzy Blood performed.

“My mum actually messaged me, ‘Well done for buzzing him,’” she revealed. When Denise Welch asked whether she had any idea what Auzzy was going to do with the hooks when he walked on stage, Alesha said: “No – I find those kind of acts really interesting. They’re a bit like Marmite.

We love to hate them. I find them very difficult to watch but when I watched it back with my family, I was howling with laughter. I found it so funny and watching everybody’s reactions, that’s when it becomes entertaining.”

When Ruth Langsford pointed out that when you’re watching it for the first time, you fear that the worst is going to happen, Alesha continued: “I found it difficult definitely. I was a bit like this for most of it,” she said, shielding her eyes. “And then I just reached over to my red buzzer. After I watched it at the launch, I did say to the producer, ‘I get it.’

“Because it’s so funny and we do like these controversial acts that are a bit entertaining, a bit out there, some people are going to love it, some people won’t.”

Despite being controversial, some fans admitted on social media that Auzzy Blood could win the show.

Loose Women airs weekdays from 12:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX. Britain’s Got Talent continues on Saturday at 7pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
