Loose Women’s Denise Welch rushed to hospital after returning from dream holiday

Loose Women’s Denise Welch has opened up about her recent health setback, revealing that she was rushed to hospital after returning from an idyllic holiday with a nasty infection

Loose Women’s Denise Welch has revealed that she was rushed to hospital after returning from holiday for a horrible infection that left her on ‘a drip for a week’.

The TV star opened up about her health setback on Tuesday’s Loose Women, revealing that after returning for holiday, she was rushed to hospital for acute peritonitis. The condition is an infection of the inner lining of your abdominal.

Denise returned to Loose Women today and opened up about her battle with depression before revealing that she ended up in hospital after flying back from a holiday in the Caribbean.

Speaking to her fellow Loose Women stars, Denise said: “I got back from a lovely holiday in the Caribbean last Saturday. All bronzed looking forward to coming on here and showing off my suntan. I got rushed into hospital on the Saturday with acute peritonitis – a perforated diverticulitis

“I’ve been in hospital for a drip for a week! They didn’t have to do surgery, they got it with antibiotics thankfully. As my mother said, ‘Take me to the knacker’s yard!’”

She added that she’s recovering but still feeling the effects. She said: “I’m eating and believe you me, what’s going on down there, I’m a Loose Women – believe you me!”

Denise had been previously speaking about her mental health, sharing that she “collapsed” before doing a pantomime performance in December. The former soap star pulled out of playing Captain Hook in the 2024 Peter Pan pantomime at Nottingham Theatre Royal due to ill health.

Denise recently opened up about her relationship with husband Lincoln Townley as the couple took part on Celebrity Hunted. “We do have a good laugh,” admitted Denise. “The thing with us is that we take our business very seriously, but we don’t take ourselves seriously.

“There’s a balance there, which really works because we have a good laugh. We find humour in so many things together. I always thought there wouldn’t be one person that I fancy and be able to laugh with like I laugh with my girlfriends or my gay best friends. But I managed to find that in Lincoln.

“I think laughter is very much a part of the success of our marriage and the very fact that I didn’t want to do Celebrity Hunted with anybody but my husband says it all.”

Stacey Solomon reveals she will spend evenings with Joe Swash ‘not talking’ to each other

Loose Women star Stacey Solomon has opened up on the concept of “self-care”, insisting that she doesn’t like to put any unnecessary pressure on herself and when she does achieve it, it’s not through the means of a “bubble bath”

Stacey Solomon has confessed that she and her husband Joe Swash often spend evenings not speaking to each other as a way to prioritise “self-care”.

The Loose Women presenter, 35, and Joe have a blended family of six children – Harry, Zachary, Leighton, Rex, Rose, and Belle – and reside in their countryside home, Pickle Cottage, regularly sharing glimpses into their lives on Instagram.

In a recent interview, Stacey shared her thoughts on “self-care”, revealing that she doesn’t believe in adding extra pressure to achieve it. She also admitted that her self-care routine doesn’t involve indulging in a relaxing “bubble bath”.

Speaking to Grazia, Stacey said: “I think we all put ourselves under a lot of pressure to be like, ‘Don’t forget you! ‘ and ‘Don’t forget to fit your self-care in or you’re going to go down the drain.’ Sometimes in life, it’s just not possible.”

Stacey told the publication about the importance of being flexible and not putting too much pressure on oneself. She then described what self-care looks like in her household, which usually takes place after the kids are tucked in, reports the Manchester Evening News.

She mentioned the moment when she’s finished with work for the day, sharing that she enjoys playing cards with her family. However, there comes a point when she and Joe choose not to interact with each other.

Stacey added: “Or Joe and I will sit on the sofa and not talk to each other and watch some mind-numbing TV. That’s self-care for us. It’s not a bubble bath, I’m lucky if I have time to wash my important bits in the shower!”

Joe, who’s recently got into batch cooking to feed his big brood, including two dogs and four ducks, spilled the beans to OK! about the challenges of parenting, branding it “difficult bringing kids up”.

He even owned up to his once-messy ways before Stacey stepped in, confessing: “It took Stacey a while to whip me into shape, to be fair.”

Joe went on to share: “It involved a lot of making me go back and tidy up the mess I’d left behind. A lot of, ‘This is how the cupboards are meant to look,’ and ‘I don’t want it to look different to this’.”

The pair have been an item for over ten years, sparking up a romance post-Stacey’s I’m a Celeb victory in 2010 and tying the knot at Pickle Cottage in July 2022.

On their festive BBC programme last year, ‘Stacey Solomon’s Crafty Christmas ‘, where Stacey showed off her creative flair with decorations and gifts, she couldn’t resist giving away that Joe was a total softie on their big day, mentioning: “Your mum had to come out and warn me. I could see your tears from the beginning of the aisle.”

To which Joe quipped: “Well at least one of us got emotional at the wedding eh. Oh ice queen.”

Inside Stacey Solomon’s life from childhood anxiety and teenage pregnancy ‘shame’ to ‘nearly breaking up’ with Joe Swash

Sort Your Life Out with Stacey Solomon is back for season five with the titular star returning to help families turn their home lives around

Stacey Solomon has been a household name for 16 years after she was catapulted to stardom thanks to her stint on The X Factor.

Sort Your Life Out with Stacey Solomon will be returning this evening, Tuesday, February 11, at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer with another family in need of decluttering their three-bedroom home in the hope of a more organised future.

As the hit reality series makes a comeback, fans are curious to know more in depth about the presenter’s personal life.

    Anxiety

Born in October 1989, in Dageham, Essex, Stacey is the daughter of David Solomon and Fiona Nash who worked as a photographer and a nurse respectively, along with siblings Matthew and Jemma.

Sadly when Stacey was little, she suffered from terrible anxiety where she would spend up to six hours a day worrying about death.

Writing in her column for The Sun, she shared: “I remember being scared of dying at a very young age, maybe even five or six. I had no traumatic childhood experiences.

“There’s not a point in my childhood where my mortality was questioned, but the fear was always there.”

Thankfully after seeing a therapist and her GP, Stacey was able to start managing her anxiety, recognising her triggers and what to do to stop the intrusive thoughts.

“Before bed I try and read the most brain-hurty, intelligent book I can,” she explained.

“One that’s so hard to read no other thoughts can creep into my mind. After 10 pages I’m usually exhausted and fall asleep.”

    Teen pregnancy

Stacey became pregnant when she was just 17-years-old with her first son Zachary, who she had with her ex-partner Dean Cox, breaking up before he was born.

Four years ago, the star opened up on the “shame” that she felt at the time, sharing that she felt “totally out of control”.

Speaking on Loose Women, she said: “I just remember feeling so ashamed.

“I know that sounds awful but when I was pregnant with Zach, all I felt the whole way through was shame.

“I looked like a baby as well. I looked about six. I think people just looked and were like, ‘Ugh, why is she pregnant?’ Maybe it’s a bit of trauma I just haven’t addressed.”

    The X Factor

Stacey became famous overnight in 2009 when she auditioned for The X Factor in front of the likes of Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh and came in third place.

However, her audition nearly didn’t happen as the 35-year-old explained: “I don’t know if it was one in the morning or whenever it was, it was really late at night, I was the last person to be seen and the judges were so tired, they had seen thousands of people all day.

“I think what they were saying was that they wanted to end the night, that was it and go home and London was done.

“But one of the producers really pushed for them to see me and just wait to see me which changed my life.”

    Joe Swash

Stacey went on to have another son, Leighton, with her ex-fiancé Aaron Barham but their relationship came to an end in 2014.

She then went on to date former EastEnders star Joe Swash who she initially met while working on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!, with Stacey winning the show in 2010.

Stacey and Joe tied the knot in 2022 and now have three children together, Rex, Rose and Belle but the initial proposal didn’t exactly go as planned.

Opening up on BBC’s Would I Lie To You, Stacey laughed: “I nearly broke up with my husband while he was trying to propose to me.”

Explaining that it was during the coronavirus lockdown in 2020, she continued: “It was that special time of year, but we were all confined to our homes due to the restrictions.

“Every day, we would take a long walk through the nearby woods to escape the daily grind and find a bit of normalcy.

“This one Christmas Eve day while I was in the thick of being really busy. He wanted to go for a wood walk, and I asked if this could wait. it’s Christmas Eve, but anyway, we went on a walk, and all these flowers were laid out.

“So I said, ‘I think someone has passed’. He said, ‘Let’s go and have a look’.

“I said, ‘What the hell is wrong with you? I’m not walking through that’. I said, ‘I don’t know if I can be with a person like you who gets off on someone else’s misfortune.

“I was expecting a shrine, but Joe had put the flowers out to propose to me.”

ITV Loose Women’s Ruth Langsford admits to taking ‘toilet break’ in bush during run

Ruth Langsford caused shock waves on the latest episode of ITV’s Loose Women as she revealed that she was forced to take a toilet break in a bush during an intense run

Loose Women star Ruth Langsford left her co-stars gasping as she made a candid toilet confession on air.

The 64-year-old was back on the panel on Tuesday afternoon (February 11), joined by show regulars Denise Welch, Janet Street-Porter, and Judi Love. But the conversation took a different direction when Ruth discussed a time when she desperately needed to relieve herself.

As the ladies addressed the topic, ‘where do you stand on dog poo?’ Ruth shared her own situation when she was partaking in a 5k run. Sharing that she had no toilet near by, Ruth explained that her choices were limited.

She said: “My my top lip started to sweat and my eyes are darting.” She added: “And I go, ‘I’m never going to make it home’ and I’m sweating and suddenly I just see a bit of a clearing with some bushes and I just literally flew in.

“Leggings down and then leggings up and I was so shocked that I just shot back out of the bushes. I went home shaking the whole time thinking, ‘Please [say] no one saw me.”

Ruth’s hilarious confession caused quite a stir online as one fan took to X and wrote: “So Ruth nearly s*** herself. Top telly I’m glad this lot don’t waste their time debating the war in the Ukraine.”

Another also asked: “Why did Ruth Langsford just tell everyone that she s*** in a bush last week?”

While a third penned: “So if you live near Ruth and accidentally tread in a big pile of c**k in the park, don’t blame someone’s dog…”

Ruth recently spoke for the first time about her divorce from Eamonn Holmes, nearly a year after they announced their separation.

The couple had been together for 27 years and married for 14, with one son, 22-year-old Jack Holmes.

Soon after the split, Eamonn went public with his new relationship with 43-year-old dating expert Katie Alexander, while Ruth has remained single in the public eye.

Talking to Woman and Home, she said: “I’m alright. Relationship breakdowns are very difficult – marriage, friendship, whatever it is – but you just deal with it and you have to move on.

“You can either let yourself crumble or you pick yourself up and get on with life. It’s a choice.”

Strictly Come Dancing’s Carlos Gu emotional as he praises co-star on air

Strictly Come Dancing pro Amy Dowden was joined by her BBC co-star Carlos Gu as the duo appeared on Loose Women ahead of their upcoming tour, Reborn.

Strictly Come Dancing pro Carlos Gu got choked up as he praised his co-star Amy Dowden. The dancing duo made an appearance on Loose Women this week in anticipation of their Reborn tour, which kicks off at the end of March.

The inspiration behind this title, according to Amy, stems from both her experience battling cancer and Carlos’s journey of self-discovery since moving to the UK.

She told the ITV panel: “Carlos came up with the name of Reborn, and something we’ve both been through the last few years, obviously my cancer journey.

“But also Carlos, he’s been on his own journey since moving to the UK, being able to be true to himself, his sexuality and how the UK has just opened him up.”

Carlos became visibly emotional as he celebrated their bond, revealing how Amy helped him find his footing in the UK.

The BBC star added: “[Amy] was so good to me, a Chinese boy who travelled all the way from China and into a completely new environment! She was helping me with a bit of everything, how to do so and so, how to find the cameras, she looked after me so well.”

Carlos’s voice cracked as he recounted how Amy used dance as a lifeline throughout her diagnosis, describing her as someone with a profound passion for the art, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Overcome, Carlos said: “Amy is the person that I’ve met who has so much passion for dancing. I know that was the only thing that could support her and get her through. She needs dancing, she needs Strictly and she needs to be alive and to feel herself again.”

Amy Dowden opened up about the unwavering support she has received from Carlos after her cancer diagnosis in 2023.

She shared: “We were kind of inseparable on Strictly and then I was diagnosed with cancer and Carlos was there for me every step of the way.”

She recalled a touching moment when Carlos wanted to shave his head in solidarity, saying: “I remember calling [Carlos] when I just shaved my hair and you wanted to shave your hair straight away… I was like, ‘No, you’re just starting Strictly, like, literally, you’ve just been partnered with Angela!’ He was there for me, my family. He’s become one of the Dowdens.”

The 34-year-old dancer confessed she was heartbroken when she had to withdraw from the last season of Strictly, but now that she’s wrapped up the Strictly tour, she’s looking ahead with optimism.

She expressed: “I finished the Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour last night, and I was so proud of myself, being able to do 10 shows a week, because I wasn’t sure my body was ever going to be capable of it.

“Every day after chemo, you start feeling strong and better but it wasn’t really until December I was like, ‘Oh yeah, this is what it feels like to have your energy and your strength back,’ And I’m just so proud of how far I’ve come, and only in the last few weeks.”

Despite appearing confident, Amy admitted she’s had her share of struggles. Amy added: “I look confident, but I’ve really not been… I’ve spent most nights crying at your [Carlos] house, saying, ‘My body feels different, my dancing’s not as good, I don’t look or feel the same’, But actually, I really feel like Amy again, and I’m so proud of how far I’ve come.”

Amy candidly discussed her aspirations to become a mother and her IVF journey. She revealed: “I had a hormone cancer so I have been put into early menopause and it would be too dangerous now [to fall pregnant], but I really want to be a mum, I’ve always wanted to be a mum.

“We do have five embryos, I hope one day, if it’s safe to do so, I do get the privilege and honour to be someone’s mummy.”

This Morning’s audience vowed to switch channels as Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary performed an Oasis tribute. As Oasis’ Liam and Noel Gallagher prepare to launch their reunion tour in Wales, Alison and Dermot began the show by impersonating the renowned brothers with their iconic parkas and sunglasses as they lip-synced to Wonderwall.

Fans were left unimpressed “Never thought I’d say…Bring back Richard and Judy.” Another was tempted to jump away from traditional TV, posting: “Let’s see….wonder what’s on Netflix?”

Anothr social media user said: “Absolutely Bonkers! !” alongside another who shared a snapshot of a “switch off” button, provocatively asking: “#thismorning are all programmes on ITV opening today with the presenters dressed as Oasis?” A particularly vexed viewer bemoaned further reasons being provided to evade the programme, remarking “Just when they couldn’t give me any more reasons to avoid the show like the return of the plague…” and yet another tersely venting their irritation with: “FFS.”

Once they had cast aside their Gallagher disguises, Alison greeted the viewers by declaring: “Happy Friday! I’m very excited!” Dermot, admiring Alison’s ensemble complete with a bucket hat, praised her unique style: “You’re the only person I’ve ever seen look good in a bucket hat. No one looks good in a bucket hat.

He continued, speaking directly to the avid Oasis fans: “Oasis fans, you can stop crying because Liam and Noel have officially decided to stop Looking Back In Anger and get back together.

“After 16 years apart, today the band will finally roll with it on stage once again, kicking off their first stop on their comeback tour in Cardiff tonight,” Alison declared.

Coronation Street star teases ‘battle’ as character faces death after showdown

Coronation Street star Ryan Mulvey, the actor who plays Brody Michaelis on the ITV soap, has teased dark scenes ahead amid a prison escape, with at least one character facing death

One Coronation Street star has teased the fallout to some explosive scenes which leave at least one character facing death, while another faces a moral “battle”.

Spoilers for next week have revealed a prison escape and a resulting siege leads to a horror showdown on the ITV soap, amid a desperate criminal’s plan to flee with his family. With it not known if he can be stopped, killer Mick Michaelis takes dark action and it leaves one resident fighting for their life.

With scenes being kept under wraps until the big episodes air next week, what has been revealed is Mick tries to track down his family and leave with them before he can be caught. He ends up putting lives on the line though as he desperately tries to get his kids away.

With it revealed Brody Michaelis is in touch with his criminal father via a burner phone Mick has, the pair plot together when Mick is told his wife Lou is in trouble and the family is falling apart. Now, Brody actor Ryan Mulvey has spilled all on the big scenes and the trouble ahead, including the “moral battle” the teen faces.

Fresh from Mick’s arrest after killing PC Craig Tinker and with Brody learning Kit Green is his real dad, events spiral leading to an action-packed set of episodes. Actor Ryan revealed why Brody is helping Mick after everything he’s done.

He shared: “It’s a combination of everything, but he’s definitely desperate to keep his family together. He feels like it’s the one thing he can do. He’s promised his mum, he’s promised his dad that looking after the family is now his job and that’s why he’s doing everything to keep them together.

“He’ll definitely feel like a failure if he can’t keep them together. He feels like that’s his duty as a brother, his duty as a man, to keep that together. He has got morals and he does know it’s wrong, but he’ll definitely blindside that to try keep his family together and keep his loved ones close.”

But when Mick’s plan begins to fall apart and people are left in danger, Brody’s desperate not to let his dad down. He shared: “Firstly, he’s just so nervous. He doesn’t want to disappoint his dad. He idolises his dad and to think that he’s letting his dad down, that’s in his nightmares.

The biggest thing is that he’s scared and he’ll beat himself up if he can’t fulfil his dad’s shoes. That’s definitely playing on his mind throughout and if it doesn’t all come together I can see him acting up afterwards because he doesn’t feel enough.

“He will definitely feel like he’s letting his family down if the plan goes wrong.” When Kit is rushed to hospital and needs life-saving surgery it looks as though Mick could be about to claim another life.

On Brody’s reaction to the news about his biological dad, Ryan went on: “I think it’s hard because he’s only just found out about Kit being his dad. So it’s all, again, very overwhelming for Brody and he doesn’t really know how to process it.

“The idea that someone who could offer him a better life, and he knows that he could offer him a better life, Brody’s clever, could also be taken away is tough. He’s obviously worried that his dad, who’s already in prison, could be sent down for longer if this ends badly.

“He’s hurt an actual police officer, but that police officer is also Brody’s dad too. It becomes a whole moral battle of that’s my dad who’s raised me, but that’s my biological father. So it’s a huge battle in his head and I don’t think he really knows who he wants to win. He’ll keep that very quiet and to himself till he can figure things out.”

On what the future could hold for Brody and Kit amid secrecy about how the big plot ends, Ryan teased: “It’s a great dynamic, his dad being a policeman and Brody the way he is, always getting into trouble. I love working with Jacob. It’s great because there’s so many dramatic scenes that we can play of finding out he’s his dad and all the drama and emotion around that.

“There’s probably a lot of resentment there for him as well. But there’s also just the average dad and lad scenes that would be exciting to do, say, like involving girls, throwing a house party, there’s just so many different routes we could do with the dad and son which is really exciting to come.”

Genius Game ‘at risk of being axed’ just weeks after first series as ITV offer update

Genius Game, hosted by David Tennant, launched earlier this year on ITV but there is already speculation about its future just weeks after its first series concluded last month

There’s speculation that ITV is “poised to axe” a show that launched just months ago. Genius Game drew comparisons to the Traitors but didn’t reach the same viewing figures as its BBC rival in its first series, which aired earlier this year.

Genius Game, which was hosted by David Tennant, saw eleven contestants compete in a series of games for the chance to win a cash prize. It launched in April and ran for eight episodes, with the finale having aired last month.

The first episode, as previously reported, drew 1.2 million viewers but ratings dropped to 800,000 for the second episode. They are said to have reduced even further by the finale six weeks later and the show is now reportedly at risk.

The Sun claims that ITV is “poised to axe” Genius Game. It reports that the show is believed to have cost £2.5 million but had an average audience of 661,000 by the end. The finale is said to have drawn the similar figures as a repeat of BBC Two’s Pangolins: The World’s Most Wanted Animal.

There’s speculation that ITV is ‘poised to axe’ Genius Game, which was hosted by David Tennant, but a spokesperson told the Mirror that ‘no decision’ has been made on its future yet(Image: ITV)

A source told the outlet that the game show is considered a “disaster” by some people. They claimed: “Publicly ITV maintains that no firm decision has been taken, but most execs and commissioners view it as a disaster.

“Not only did it occupy a primetime 9pm slot, it had a big-name host and was seen as a potential rival for BBC’s The Traitors. But of the five main channels on June 11, it was beaten by two and equalled by BBC2, thanks to those pangolins.”

A spokesperson for ITV however suggested to the Mirror this evening that the future of Genius Game following its debut series has yet to be decided. When approached for comment, they told us: “No decision has yet been made.”

As reported by Radio Times, according to Broadcast, BBC One show Race Across the World’s fifth season pulled in 4.2 million overnight viewers on June 11. That was the same night that Genius Game concluded with its own finale.

According to figures, published by the outlet the following day, Genius Game did slightly surprass Pangolins – The World’s Most Wanted Animal. It was listed as the third most watched show in its slot mong the five main channels.

The outlet said that Race Across the World “blew away” its competition that night. It reported that an episode of Casualty 24/7: Every Second Counts on 5 was the closest to reaching its success with overnight figures of 718,000.

It added that Genius Game on ITV followed with 661,000 and then BBC Two’s Pangolins – The World’s Most Wanted Animal with 660,000 viewers at the time. Whilst an episode of Britain’s Most Expensive Homes is said to have brought 597,000 viewers to Channel 4 in the same slot.

The first series of Genius Game saw eleven contestants compete in a series of challenges, with one player typically eliminated after each one. Like in shows such as the Traitors, some contestants engaged in social strategies to help with their efforts in a bid to make it all the way to the final.

Viewers saw comedian Ken Cheng and student Charlotte Yeung reach the final after seven episodes. The pair went head-to-head in the eighth episode, which ended with Ken being named the winner and Charlotte the runner-up.

Explosive Coronation Street trailer sees Craig’s killer Mick Michaelis escape prison

Corrie villain Mick Michaelis was previously jailed for brutally killing policeman Craig who was trying to arrest him for drink driving. Now he is getting ready to break out of lockup

Mick Michaelis back on the cobbles
Mick Michaelis was jailed for murder on Coronation Street

Things are about to get very intense on Coronation Street, as a brand new trailer teases a dramatic prison break when killer Mick Michaelis makes a desperate bid to flee Weatherfield with his children.

Fans will see Mick (Joe Layton) go on the run in an episode set to air on Monday, July 14, after orchestrating a daring escape from prison. With nothing left to lose, the desperate character is on a mission to reunite his fractured family – but his plan could leave even more destruction in its wake.

Mick is spurred into action after hearing that his family is falling apart without him. Convinced that they belong together, he makes a bold and risky move to take Brody, Joanie and Shanice away from everything and start a new life elsewhere.

Mick Michaelis back on the cobbles
Now the man is set to make a comeback as he preps for a jailbreak

But with police in hot pursuit and his violent past catching up with him, the fugitive poses a serious threat to anyone who gets in his way.

His first stop is Weatherfield High, where he is determined to track down his daughter Joanie. But when he realises she’s already been taken home by Sally ( Sally Dynevor ), Mick heads straight for the cobbles – with DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) not far behind.

Completely unaware of the danger that’s coming, Sally takes Joanie to Underworld to give her a quick tour while the factory girls are at the pub. But things quickly take a sinister turn when Mick arrives on the street, ready to do whatever it takes to get to his daughter.

With Kit in pursuit, it’s only a matter of time before the situation explodes. What exactly does Mick have planned – and will Kit manage to stop him before it’s too late?

Actor Joe Layton has spoken about the dramatic scenes coming up, explaining: “He isn’t after revenge, this is about him wanting to get his family together and start a new life with them. The anger that we saw when he killed Craig has been replaced by desperation and love for his family, but that doesn’t make him any less dangerous. Kit is potentially putting his life on the line once more in his attempts to stop Mick.”

Viewers will remember that Mick arrived in Weatherfield earlier this year with wife Lou (Farrel Hegarty), and quickly became the street’s nightmare neighbour.

Things turned deadly when Mick brutally murdered police officer Craig Tinker by bludgeoning him to death with a bat after a tense confrontation.

Craig had been trying to arrest Mick following a suspected drink-driving incident, but it ended in tragedy. Mick has been behind bars ever since – but that is soon set to change.

Will Mick escape with his kids? Or will his twisted quest to reunite his family end in disaster?

Mick’s escape episode airs on ITVX and YouTube at 7am on Monday July 14th and on ITV at 8pm
