Exclusive: Huw Edwards’ BBC Doctor Who episode returns but with huge twist

The BBC has re-released an episode of Doctor Who featuring disgraced news anchor Huw Edwards although they have carefully scrubbed him from the episode

A Doctor Who episode featuring Huw Edwards has been re-uploaded.

The episode which originally aired in 2006 was yanked from BBC iPlayer following the scandal surrounding Edwards. In the episode which is now available to watch, Billie Piper played the Doctor’s (David Tennant) companion watching a news report from her home when she saw a man falling over while carrying the Olympic Torch after London won the bid to host the 2012 games.

David’s portrayal of The Doctor was forced to intervene and carry on running with the torch. Meanwhile, Edwards was heard commenting on the incident. Edwards voice punctuates the episode, initially announcing the progress of the Olympic torchbearers and later forming the backdrop for the opening ceremony by remarking, “athletes from all over the world are streaming into the stadium”.

This, has now been wiped from the episode. Instead, his live commentary is played out by Becky Wright, who has previously provided the voice for Doctor Who’s audio and podcast service. Becky’s addition is almost an exact copy of Edwards’ script but has had some minor tweaks. He’s also been axed from the final credits of the episode. The BBC were believed to be reviewing archival footage involving Huw, including his coverage of the late Queen Elizabeth’s death.

Edwards offered 'live commentary' during the scene

A BBC spokesperson told The Mirror: “As you would expect we are actively considering the availability of our archive. While we don’t routinely delete content from the BBC archive as it is a matter of historical record, we do consider the continued use and re-use of material on a case-by-case basis.”

Last year, the disgraced BBC newsreader, 63, was given six months imprisonment, suspended for two years, after he pleaded guilty to having made indecent images of children. The sentence came after father-of-five was arrested in November 2023 following the findings of South Wales Police that he had been involved in a sick WhatsApp conversation with convicted paedophile Alex Williams, 25.

The felon was said to have sent Edwards 41 images of child abuse between December 2020 and August 2021. Seven of the indecent images were Category A, which is the worst category of its kind. He also had a requirement to complete a sex offender programme. Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring also declined to make him the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, saying he “did not pose a risk to the public”. He said, however, that Edwards would be on the Sexual Offenders’ Register for seven years.

Mr Goldspring told the ex-News at Ten presenter: “The impact of child sexual abuse can be severe and lifelong.” He then told Edwards his “reputation is in tatters,” while starting his sentencing remarks. Mr Goldspring said: “Perhaps it does not need saying that you are of previous good character having enjoyed a very successful career in the media You were highly regarded for your dedication and professionalism, perhaps the most recognised journalist in the UK. Your reputation is in tatters.”

As well as the way the criminal justice system treats paedophiles in the UK, Edwards was spared jail time due to his previous good character and concern over his mental health behind bars, as it placed him as a “vulnerable” inmate. The court was told he had been an inpatient at the Nightingale Hospital mental health clinic in London since his July guilty pleas.

This Morning announces new boss amid Martin Frizell exit after 10 years

ITV has announced the new boss of This Morning after Martin Frizell announced last year that he would be leaving the role of editor after 10 years at the helm of the programme

ITV has announced the new boss of This Morning, with associate editor Vivek Sharma set to take over in March.

This Morning’s current editor Martin Frizell announced in November that he would be leaving the programme after 10 years, using his time away from ITV to care for his wife, former GMTV presenter Fiona Phillips, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2022.

Vivek, who has been an associate editor on the show for the last 15 months, said in a statement: “Having grown up watching the show, it’s an incredible privilege and honour to take on the role of editor of This Morning.

“Over the last 37 years, the show has become a national institution and has been responsible for some of the most memorable moments on television. It’s a cherished part of millions of people’s mornings on TV and on social media, where someone interacts with This Morning content every second.”

He added: “The team on and off camera are world-class and I can’t wait to work alongside them in my new role, as we shape the future of this iconic brand.”

Before joining This morning, Vivek worked on other ITV shows, including Lorraine and Good Morning Britain. He is set to take over as boss from March 3.

Last November, Martin, 65, announced that he would be stepping down from the role in Spring 2025, sharing that he expected his “family priorities to change next year”. He added: “Next year I’m expecting my family priorities to change so I need to free up time for them. I love my team at ITV and will miss them and the thrill of live telly but it’s an always on, 24 hours a day, seven days a week commitment and I won’t be able to do both.

“It’s been a privilege to lead truly great presenters and producers, between us we’ve turned out more than six thousand hours of live topical telly, that’s around 20,000 items and whilst the gongs are always nice.

“I’m most proud of the change we made to so many lives, even saving a fair few with our campaigns on anti suicide, menopause, testicular cancer and ‘how – to’ items. This juggernaut is the toughest test for any broadcast journalist.”

Victoria Beckham’s mum calls in to Loose Women after emotional debate on air

Loose Women panellist, Jane Moore, has revealed Victoria Beckham’s mum, Jackie, contacted the show during a discussion about her daughter and husband, David

Victoria Beckham’s mum once called the Loose Women ladies during their on-air debate about her daughter.

Jackie Adams usually stays out of the spotlight, however, panellist, Jane Moore, has revealed she couldn’t resist sharing her opinion with the ITV show when Victoria, 50, was up for discussion.

With reports of affairs, millions in the bank and four celebrity offspring, the Beckhams always get tongues wagging. However, after the Loose Women panel stuck up for the pair in a bid to protect their privacy, Jackie rang into the show to say thank you.

Recalling the moment, Jane said: “Victoria has never been on the show, but her mum rang in once when we used to do live phone calls. I think we were sticking up for the Beckhams and she called into say thanks. She was nice.”

The journalist also told Woman’s Own that while the former Spice Girl has never been on the show, there have been some “fabulous stars” drinking tea with the loose-lipped women, including Whoopi Goldberg and Goldie Hawn.

Victoria and David’s live were under the microscope again recently when Tom Bower released his explosive new book, which is based on the couple’s marriage.

The House of Beckham: Money, Sex and Power, written by the investigative biographer, includes many alleged events about their relationship through extensive research, expert sourcing and interviews with insiders.

Victoria was said to be “livid” after its release when murky details surrounding David’s alleged affair with Rebecca Loos were published. There were also damning details about her rumoured dislike of Geri Horner, who the fashion designer reportedly mocked for her celebrity romance with Chris Evans.

With the book’s release just weeks before their 25th wedding anniversary, Victoria was said to be unhappy with the timing and how it might portray the pair.

A source told Closer Magazine: “Victoria is livid about the upcoming book, because what was supposed to be a landmark date for them is instead going to be reliving the hell that almost broke her. Instead of being able to celebrate their marriage and the ups and downs of their journey and the love and life they have built together, it’s all coming under attack.” The mum-of-four was also reportedly “worried” about the book being set up to “bring down” the couple’s image and portray them as “work and money obsessed people”.

The book came after the release of David’s self-titled Netflix documentary, in which his wife opened up about the great difficulty they faced in their marriage when he was accused of infidelity.

Speaking in his Netflix documentary, Victoria shared: “Up until Madrid sometimes it felt like us against everybody else but we were together, we were connected, we had each other. But when we were in Spain, it didn’t really feel like we had each other either. And that’s sad. I can’t even begin to tell you how hard it was and how it affected me. It was a nightmare.”

Loose Women’s Jane Moore admits ‘I can’t get rid of it’ as she shares health battle

Jane Moore opened up on a problematic health condition that she’s currently battling, as she spoke openly on ITV’s Loose Women about the condition and health of her feet

Loose Women star Jane Moore made a candid health confession on the ITV show as she admitted that she’s struggling with her fungal toe infection.

During the last instalment of the week, Kaye Adams asked her co-stars, Olivia Attwood, Myleene Klass and Jane Moore on whether they take care of their feet. Revealing that feet are the window into how healthy one is, the women bravely showed pictures of their toes to see how well they were doing overall.

Admitting that her feet looked similar to Lord of the Ring’s character, Gollum for most of the year, Jane confessed that she rarely looks after toes. She then said she had a fungus on one of her toes as well as a bunion on her foot.

Jane later added: “There’s nothing I haven’t got! Also, that left nail, thank God its got polish on it cos it’s fungal!”

As the panel and the audience squirmed in disgust, Jane said: “I can’t get rid of it! I’ve tried everything.”

The news comes after Loose Women star Gloria Hunniford’s husband Stephen Way tragically passed away at the age of 85. Taking to social media, Gloria, 84, fondly remembered her husband by saying: “Stephen was a gentleman and a giant of a man, who will leave the most enormous void not only in my life, but our entire family.

Gloria honoured Stephen’s role in the family by stating: “He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather,” and shared her immense grief: “It’s a great shock and words cannot express my sadness at this time. Loose Women star Gloria Hunniford is mourning the death of husband Stephen Way, who has passed away at the age of 85

Gloria Hunniford’s husband of more than 20 years has died at the age of 85.

The Loose Women star, 84, wed the businessman in 1998, and she said he would leave “the most enormous void, not only in my life”.

Stephen Way, who was a renowned celebrity hairdresser, passed away on Tuesday following a “heroic fight” with an illness, the family announced.

Gloria and Stephen celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary last year. Speaking of her loss for the first time publicly today, Gloria said: “Stephen was a gentleman and a giant of a man, who will leave the most enormous void not only in my life, but our entire family. He was an incredibly kind, generous, and caring man, with a delightfully quirky sense of humour, which remained till the end. Stephen was described as a “wonderful husband, father and grandfather” and Gloria added: “It’s a great shock and words cannot express my sadness at this time. A bright shining light has dimmed, and he shall be missed at every turn.”

It was Stephen who broke the news of the death of her former husband Don Keating as she came off stage after hosting a TV chat show in 1997, she revealed that year.

When they started dating, he owned an hairdressing salon in New Bond Street, Mayfair.

Last year, Gloria revealed Stephen had been left partially blind in his right eye after suffering a second stroke. She had spoken of his numerous health battles and in 2020 praised the NHS for saving his life. Stephen was involved in a taxi accident in 2019, leaving the base of his spine fractured.

He had previously been Gloria’s support following the tragic death of her daughter in 2004. Caron, who had followed in her mum’s footsteps and became a TV presenter, died from breast cancer aged 41 in 2004.

Earlier this year she explained her the pain of Caron’s death “never goes away”. Speaking of how Stephen helped her at the time and with tough periods in her life, Gloria previously said: “Stephen’s a lovely man and so supportive of me in every way. It’s very important to look after your relationship, especially when it’s a second marriage, and my concession is that I don’t work every day so we have time together.”

Gloria previously said losing a child was “the deepest sense of loss you can ever face”.

“Because I have personally lost parents, I’ve lost a former husband. Yes, it’s all relative to the situation and relative to the person and relative to where you are in your life. But I think to lose a child sends you into the darkest black hole imaginable and one which I never thought I’d get out of.”

Gloria and Stephen exchanged wedding vows at St Peter’s Church in Kent in 1998. They continued the celebrations at the majestic Hever Castle. Last year, the couple returned to the same spot to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. She told Hello Magazine at the time that her memories of that special day are as vivid as ever, and the secret to their happy marriage is “love, laughter and good conversation”.

She assed: “I can remember walking into the church, filled with family and friends, and the candles all lit – it was wonderful. We’ve often said we would love to live it all over again.

“Of course, there is physical attraction, but our relationship is full of kindness and humour. We enjoy talking to each other. Talk, talk, talk – that is a wonderful thing.”

Loose Women’s Coleen Nolan makes cheeky jibe at Ruth Langsford after lengthy show absence

Loose Women star Coleen Nolan made a cheeky jibe at the expense of her co-star Ruth Langsford following her lengthy absence from the ITV lunchtime show

Coleen Nolan made a cheeky comment about Ruth Langsford’s lengthy absence from Loose Women.

Ruth took some time away from the ITV lunchtime show earlier this year following her split from husband Eamonn Holmes. The pair had been married for decades but shockingly announced their split earlier this year.

In a joint statement, their spokespeople confirmed the split, sharing: “Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.”

Since then, Ruth has made her return to the panel show for a week or so before heading off for some pre-arranged time off. During a chat on today’s show, they were discussing what was coming up when Ruth couldn’t think of the word to explain what she was saying. Coleen quickly jumped in to say the word, with Ruth thanking her colleague. Coleen then made a cheeky jibe at Ruth’s absence from the show, where she said Ruth had been “off for a while”.

Ruth returned to Loose Women last month following her marriage split. In her first appearance on the show since the pair went their separate ways, she said: “Welcome to your first Loose Women of the week, it’s great to have your company!” whilst Coleen stepped in to say: “Can I just say? I am so so happy that you’re back!”

The entire audience cheered as Janet Street Porter said: “Thank god! Thank god! I was left with her and her!” before Ruth apologised and added: “I’m sorry, Janet. I won’t do it again,” as they all discussed her taking an extended break from the show.

Since then, they have discussed a number of topics – but nothing specifically about Eamonn. One of the topics they chatted about was distancing themselves from toxic friends. Introducing the segment, Ruth said: “A journalist said today that female friends are too toxic to bother with and she says that women can be too catty, overly sensitive and competitive over everything from marriage to body shape. Is she right?” as panellist Myleene Klass responded: “I think it’s so lazy to make that kind of comment. It’s just women being put against women and it’s never done to men. I couldn’t disagree more because my girlfriends are my absolute rock through divorce, miscarriage and everything. I call them my 4am because there are some girlfriends I know I can rely on to ring at 4am. I had one girlfriend who knocked on my door at 2am because she didn’t hear from me.”

Ruth then said: “We suffer it on Loose Women where people always try to say ‘Aw the Loose Women are always falling out’ or ‘you can’ all get on’. It’s almost as if people can’t accept that a woman can get along with a woman. I’m not saying there can’t be catty women, but there are also catty men and b****y men too.”

Martine McCutcheon’s husband Jack McManus’ family have spoken out about their split after the actress made the shock announcement on Instagram on Thursday

Martine McCutcheon ‘s husband Jack McManus’ family have spoken out about the breakdown of their marriage.

A new report suggests that it was Jack that called time on their marriage two months ago with the “very sudden” split coming as a shock to both their families. Martine confirmed on Thursday that Jack, 40, had left her, telling fan s: “After much thought and consideration, Jack has decided it’s best for us to separate after 18 years together and I accept his decision.”

The Love Actually star, 48, originally told her friends in 2016 that the couple were going through a rough patch as she said: “Nowadays more than ever people just chuck in the towel – everything’s so disposable now.”

Jack’s aunt opened up about the split as she admitted to MailOnline “it’s been hard,” adding that “a lot had been going on for the family.” When asked why the couple had split at the family home in West Wickham she replied: “I really can’t say. Jack’s mum is over there with him now. I am looking after the dog.

‘It’s been hard. There’s been a lot going on. My sister just lost her husband as well. It was very sudden. It was announced two months ago now.” Martine spoke about difficulties in their relationship in 2016 during an appearance on Loose Women.

She said: “I think actually my friends have saved my relationship a couple of times! There have been times without a doubt – I’ve been with Jack ten years now and of course we’ve had or ups and downs – a tough eight years out of ten bless him.

Jack has been staying at the couples £1.5 million marital house in Surrey, while Martine is currently on holiday in Marbella with the couple’s nine-year-old son Rafferty. Speaking to reporters who visited their home Jack said he had nothing further to add to his wife’s lengthy statement.

He said: “There is nothing more to add. I will not be saying anything more about this.” A neighbour admitted that they had no idea the relationship was struggling.

Exclusive: Coleen Nolan checks for cancer every day after ‘so much heartbreak’ in family

Exclusive: Loose Women star Coleen Nolan reveals she does daily checks for breast cancer and pays a specialist for regular tests – because she’s scared she’ll miss a lump and be like Bernie, Anne and Linda

Having inflicted hell on her family, the scourge of cancer haunts Coleen Nolan every day.

So much so that for the Loose Women star, it has become a daily ritual to check for signs of the disease – as she’s terrified she will be the sister it strikes next. Speaking exclusively, Coleen reveals: “We have had so much heartache… I’m always checking. I still have this thing when I think, ‘What if I have missed it?’

“Really, from Linda, it became a big thing for me.” Coleen’s sister and fellow Mirror columnist Linda, 65, first battled breast cancer in 2006, but it returned in 2017 when she was diagnosed with incurable secondary breast cancer in her hip, which has since spread to her liver and brain.

Coleen’s sister Anne, now 73, also battled breast cancer in 2000 and 2020, while sister Bernie died from the disease aged just 52 in 2013. It’s left Coleen scared. “Whenever I’m in the shower, I will have a good feel and check,” she says. “And if there is ever a time when I think ‘I don’t like that’, I will go to the doctor straight away. And they will say ‘It’s fine, it’s a little cyst or an infection’.

“But it’s obviously in our family. I hope I don’t get it, but I just want to think that if I do, I’ll get it early. Linda put off going way too long. And she admits that now. She didn’t go straight away, so by the time they found it… it was huge.” Coleen has become so adamant about catching anything early that she even pays for regular appointments with a breast specialist, in addition to her NHS mammogram every two years.

“Anne was the first in our family to get it,” remembers Coleen. “There was 20 years between the first and second time, [but] both times, she got it picked up the day she felt something. I remember her saying that it felt like a grain of rice. She never had a mastectomy, she always picked it up early, which proves the point really.

“My breast specialist is £225 a year. People say, ‘It’s all right for you, you’ve got money’. But you could probably spend that in a year on takeaways, down the pub or on cigarettes.” Coleen, who turns 60 next March, has never been one to sugar-coat reality. Her ability to talk honestly about difficult issues is what made her transition from The Nolans to a much-loved Loose Women panellist and Mirror agony aunt so effortless.

She’s now using her own suffering to help others, with her new book, A Hand To Hold – All I’ve Learnt About Grief, out August 29 by HarperNorth. It’s inspired by her previous Mirror-backed podcast Let’s Talk about Grief and offers advice and wisdom on dealing with one of the hardest human emotions. She shares poignant stories of her own life – from dealing with her mother’s Alzheimer’s (Read your exclusive Daily Mirror extract here) to the Three Little Words which left her furious after losing Bernie (Read your exclusive Daily Mirror extract here).

It was 2010 when The Bill and Brookside star Bernie was diagnosed, leaving her siblings – including Denise, now 72, Maureen, 70, Brian, 69, and Tommy, 74 – distraught.

Coleen actually had a premonition Bernie wouldn’t get the all-clear like Anne and Linda at the time. “I remember being told,” reveals Coleen. “It’s really weird. When I put the phone down, I cried my eyes out. With Anne and Linda I was thinking they would have chemo and they will fight it.

“[Yet] I don’t know whether it’s because I thought we can’t be three times lucky… but [with Bernie] I had this impending sense that she wasn’t going to make it.” Coleen was sadly right. The cancer spread to Bernie’s brain, lungs, liver, and bones, before she passed away in her sleep three years later.

Afterwards, Coleen battled depression. Eventually it was Bernie who saved her – Coleen remembered her sister making her promise: She could cry but only “for two weeks”, then she had to focus on the future. They were wise words – and Coleen wasn’t short of family to comfort her.

Coleen shares Ciara, 23, with second husband Ray Fensome and Shane Junior, 35, and Jake, 31, with first-husband-turned-”best-friend” Shane Richie. Having been through two divorces, Coleen believes a marriage break-up can be almost like another type of grief. Indeed for the TV star, her 2018 split with Ray was made even more difficult because they didn’t have a prenup – which she used to be against. “[Sorting out] who gets what – it’s horrible,” she says.

That’s why she’s already joked she’ll have one with her new boyfriend Michael Jones, 59, a supermarket logistics manager. The couple met on Tinder in 2021 and moved in together in Coleen’s Cheshire home earlier this year.

“I do sometimes think, ‘Oh, it would be lovely’. Michael is my calm and peace,” she says, when asked about saying “I do” again.

“[And] I’m a hopeless romantic, and I loved being married… [However] I’ve said ‘If we ever get married, trust me we’ll have a pre-nup! 100%’”. For now it’s all about family time. Daughter Ciara, 23, recently got engaged to boyfriend Max Innes and son Jake will be welcoming his own little Nolan this Christmas.

Jake had to move into his mum’s garage in 2022 when his once-successful boyband Rixton crashed and burned. But he’s now engaged to pregnant fiancee Georgia and doing stand-up at Edinburgh Fringe. “I’m so proud of him,” Coleen says. “As a family, we have a lot to be happy for.”

The family motto is “life is to be lived right up until the end”. Bernie used her final days to plan her funeral. “Bernie had everything in place – even what car people were going in. The stress it took off my family was immense,” Coleen reveals. “She said everyone can wear what they like, and wanted a party.”

Linda has different ideas apparently. “Linda wants everyone in black, weeping and wailing,” jokes Coleen. “Linda will probably have a list of people she doesn’t want at her funeral – there are a lot of people Linda doesn’t like! I want mine to end on a laugh as that is what I’m known for.”

  • Ruth Langsford’s go-to gentle but effective exfoliator hailed a ‘lifesaver’ by shoppers

Ruth Langsford’s go-to gentle but effective exfoliator hailed a ‘lifesaver’ by shoppers

This Morning’s Ruth Langsford shared a peek at her skincare routine, which included her ‘favourite’ Liz Earle exfoliator that shoppers say leaves their skin ‘clean, fresh and young’

There’s nothing better than a night in giving yourself a pamper, and Ruth Langsford appears to be a big fan of taking some time for herself. The presenter shared a quick peek at her skincare routine on Instagram recently, writing: “Bit of pamper time this morning!” as she enjoyed a soothing face mask.

The Loose Women host also shared one of her go-to skincare product, with a snap of the Liz Earle Superskin Microdermabrasion Polish captioned: “My Fave skin polish.” Although plenty of beauty fans have heard of the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, the lesser known Superskin Microdermabrasion Polish has also been racking up some impressive reviews from shoppers.

You can currently snap up the Superskin Microdermabrasion Polish at LookFantastic, where it’s on sale down from £32 to £25.60, or at Boots, where it’s still full price but you can use the code LIZEARLE10 to save £10 on orders over £35. The exfoliator combines both naturally derived chemical exfoliants with physical ones to give a deep cleanse, with a nourishing formula that leaves skin soft and smooth whilst still feeling gentle.

It contains ultra-fine volcanic pumice crystals and AHAs that are naturally derived from fruit enzymes which work together to buff away dead skin cells and impurities that would leave your skin looking dull and dry. The shea butter and rosehip oil then not only intensely hydrate your skin, but create a luminous glow and smooth texture for super soft skin.

LookFantastic shoppers have praised it, with one saying: “Love this product, really feels like it’s doing its job, whilst still feeling gentle on the skin.”

Another added: “Worth the money – little bit goes a long way and your skin looks and feels incredible after. Not keen on smell though.”

Meanwhile over at Boots, one shopper praised: “This is a lifesaver. Works a treat and leaves skin smooth and bright. Some exfoliates are harsh on skin but this is gentle but does the job.”

Whilst another wrote: “I’ve been buying this product for several years & love it, using it once a week. It makes my skin feel clean, fresh & young. I wouldn’t be without it.”

For other gentle exfoliators, The UnScrub from Paula’s Choice, £32, has been specially designed for sensitive skin with natural dissolvable jojoba beads that gently cleanses and polishes skin, leaving it silky soft without any dryness or redness. Tatcha has also got a gentle version of its Rice Polish, £64, which is a water-activated exfoliant that transforms into a creamy foam for a non-abrasive exfoliation that doesn’t strip any of your skin’s natural moisture.

Exclusive: ‘I joined Harry and Meghan at Invictus – one moment revealed everything about their marriage’

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle dazzled fans with their huge public displays of affection at the Invictus Games, but what are they really like behind the scenes? The Mirror’s Patrick Hill spent four days with the Sussexes and delivers his verdict

It was a moment that involved no speech, yet said more than a million words ever could.

After months of speculation about their marriage, Meghan leaned into Harry and tenderly put her head on his shoulder as they held hands. They may have been surrounded by more than 40,000 people at the Invictus Games opening ceremony, but despite the gaze of many being on them, it was clear they only had eyes for each other.

While enjoying a shared moment of satisfaction in what Harry, 40, has achieved to change the perception of injured military veterans worldwide, they were also sending a message of love, unity and togetherness about themselves.

Some may baulk at the former actress and Harry’s public displays of affection during these Games, including a kiss worthy of ending any Hollywood movie. But watching them together here in Canada I have absolutely no doubt every single one is absolutely genuine and heartfelt.

I have been lucky enough to see them up close, as an accredited journalist, at three previous Invictus Games, including the one held in Toronto when they were pictured together for the first time. I was sent to Windsor to watch as they blissfully paraded through the streets after getting married in May the following year.

And I also saw them at events during their royal style tour of Colombia in August last year. But in all that time, I have never seen them looking so happy and in-step with each other as they have here in Vancouver and Whistler.

Outside temperatures have at times plunged as low as -12, but everywhere they have been together they have radiated genuine warmth and happiness.

He laughed as he said: “Apparently we’ve bought or moved house 10, 12 times. We’ve apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times as well. So it’s just like, what?’.

“It’s hard to keep up with, but that’s why you just sort of ignore it. The people I feel most sorry about are the trolls. Their hopes are just built and built, and it’s like, ‘Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,’ and then it doesn’t happen. So I feel sorry for them. Genuinely, I do.”

During the same sit-down chat on stage in New York City, Harry also spoke of how he loves his life in Montecito, California, with Meghan, 43, and their two children Archie, five, and Lilibet, three. He added: “I feel as though it’s the life that my mum wanted for me.

“To be able to do the things I’m able to do with my kids that I undoubtedly wouldn’t be able to do in the UK — it’s huge. I’m hugely grateful for that.”

There have been recent negative headlines about Meghan’s upcoming Netflix TV show, titled With Love, Meghan, and she and Harry have been upset by a new book and a cover piece in Vanity Fair, which included a string of lurid claims.

And everyone it seems has an opinion about Harry and Meghan and the way they are publicly perceived, including a group of women linked to the Nigerian Invictus team, who refused to speak to British journalists at one Invictus event on Sunday due to their belief they are against Meghan.

Biographer Tom Bower, who wrote a best-selling book about the couple and their separation from the royal family and was sitting in the press seats at the opening ceremony, also came in for some tough treatment from a Harry and Meghan fan in Vancouver earlier this week.

But broadly, everywhere Harry and Meghan went during their five-day trip together, there was nothing but positivity. From the very first moment they were first spotted arriving here in a cavalcade of cars, they have been seen almost constantly smiling and laughing, while enjoying each other’s company.

At the wheelchair basketball finals on Sunday night, Meghan couldn’t help bursting out laughing at Harry’s goofy impression of a Canadian moose. She chuckled heartily, before jokingly admonishing him, after he joked that she was about to follow in their close pal Michael Buble’s footsteps by singing on stage to a crowd of more than 1,000 people on Monday.

And she was also seen visibly amused at the thought of him racing ten-year-old Australian schoolboy Hamish Greenstreet down the slopes in Whistler, before celebrating with a triumphant “yes!” at the finish line on Tuesday.

Cynthia Phelps, whose husband James served alongside Harry at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan in 2012, perfectly summed up the mood here about Harry and Meghan. She told me: “Meghan is always personable and very down to earth and just really cares about us. Every time she talks to us it’s very visible and genuine.

“They genuinely care about the healing journey of every single one of the competitors. It’s a blessing to be able to spend time with them.”

Former Suits star Meghan, who held Cynthia’s seven-month-old baby Laramie in her arms as she told how she was missing her own children, is now back in California on motherly duties.

For her, this year’s Invictus Games is over. But the memories she and Harry made here and the message it sent to the world will continue to be poured over and remembered for a long time to come.
