Return date of Stephen Fry’s version of Jeopardy! revealed – and it’s very soon

ITV’s version of the iconic quiz show Jeopardy! was a surprise hit when it was revived in 2024 with Stephen Fry as a host – and now fans have new episodes to look forward to

Quiz show fans have reason to rejoice – for the second season of the UK’s version of Jeopardy! will soon be on screens.

The iconic American game show has had varying degrees of success while airing on this side of the Atlantic – with a British version of the show first emerging in the 1980s. ITV revived the series last year with Stephen Fry drafted in as the host – winning an army of fans when it aired in January last year.

Fans now don’t have too much longer to wait for a new season of the show – as it will be back on screens on Monday 17 March. There will be even more game show action for fans to sit through, as the season season has seen the episode run from 20 to 25 hour-long episodes.

The game show sees a team of players showing off their general knowledge skills while accumulating winnings. The first season of the revived show pulled in impressive audiences for ITV, with over 2.5 million fans watching during the show.

When the series was renewed for a second season in 2024, 67-year-old host Stephen said in a statement: “Thrilled to be back at the Jeopardy! lectern for another series. Aside from the sheer entertainment value of the format, it’s especially wonderful to see contestants from all over the country revealing such wonderful, varied knowledge and quick wits.”

He added: “Thanks to ITV and to our audience. Here’s hoping the second series finds new devotees and unearths more astonishing contestants.” Sunil Patel, who is CEO of Whisper, the production company that makes the show in the UK, said: “Jeopardy! is a cultural phenomenon in the US and now, thanks to the brilliant talent of Stephen Fry and the skill of our amazing production team, it has become a fixture in living rooms across the UK.

“I’m delighted the show is being recommissioned. Jeopardy! is legendary and to be delivering it to a new generation of UK quiz fans on ITV is something very special. Whisper North continues to grow its successful slate and this commission confirms another stellar production in its portfolio. Beyond that, this recommission generates further momentum within The Whisper Group and adds to our continuing multi-genre growth.”

While ITV’s Head of Entertainment Commissioning, Katie Rawcliffe, said: “Jeopardy! is a fantastic addition to our strong rosta of games shows on ITV, so we can’t wait to welcome Stephen and the show back to our screens next year.”

As well as helming UK Jeopardy!, Stephen also hosts the Australian version of the show – which is filmed in the same studios in Salford as the British version. Jeopardy! was first imported to the UK in 1983, airing on Channel 4 until 1984. ITV then tried to bring success to the game show format by reviving it in 1990, with the show running until 1993.

Then Sky took over the show, and aired a new version of it that lasted from 1995 until 1996. Derek Hobson was the original host when the show aired on Channel 4, then by Chris Donat and Steve Jones when the show had it’s first run on ITV – while Paul Ross was the host of the Sky One version.

  • Piers Morgan and Alex Beresford’s explosive feud from Meghan Markle showdown to on air dig

Piers Morgan and Alex Beresford’s explosive feud from Meghan Markle showdown to on air dig

Piers Morgan has made a shock return to the Good Morning Britain studio, and he couldn’t resist making yet another dig at his former co-worker and rival, Alex Beresford

Four years after his heated exit from Good Morning Britain, Piers Morgan is back in the studio, but it would appear he’s yet to heal his rift with Alex Beresford.

Today, the opinionated broadcaster returned to his former workplace to discuss Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s recent US visit, and viewers were surprised to see him back behind the famous desk alongside hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls.

While wrapping up his segment, Piers, 59, couldn’t resist having a pop at his old rival Alex, with whom he famously clashed shortly before he stepped down from GMB.

Addressing Lorraine Kelly in the studio ahead of her 9am show, Piers said: “Lorraine is over there – hello!” Lorraine replied: “Isn’t it good to have him in here?” Making reference to his former GMB co-star, who could be seen giggling alongside Ed, Piers retorted, “She couldn’t bring herself to say it. All we need is Alex Beresford, and we’ve got the whole family back together.”

Here, the Mirror takes a look at Piers and Alex’s bitter feud, which appears to stretch back much further than that infamous storm-off…

    Co-worker tension

Back in 2019, Piers mocked “emasculated” Daniel Craig after the James Bond star was spotted carrying his newborn baby daughter in a papoose. Taking a different view, Alex, 44, revealed he’d carried his own son Cruz in a papoose, prompting Piers to cry out: “If this is the future of mankind, then we are dead.”

Alex said at the time: “I was a modern man. I used to wear the papoose and do some housework and help out.” Addressing Piers, he pointedly added: “Some stuff you would never have done.”

As papoose-gate rumbled on, GMB bosses even launched a poll to see who fans found to be the most attractive, Piers or Alex. Feeling confident beforehand, Piers declared: “Thick women would prefer Beresford, dimwit Beresford with his papoose and his tattoos. Any woman with a brain would pick me.”

Unfortunately for Piers, Alex ultimately picked up 70 per cent of the overall vote, likely doing nothing to ease tensions between the pair. Also, in 2019, Alex had a frosty response for Piers when he enquired about what the weather was looking like ahead of the Cricket World Cup, cooly telling him: “I don’t work for you.” This sparked yet more rumours that the pair weren’t exactly the greatest of chums.

Then, in February 2021, just one month before the argument that changed everything, Alex admitted he’d never before tuned into Piers Morgan’s Life Stories but would be watching his interview with Chris Eubank. This admission was made while Piers was away for the half-term break, with Alex telling Charlotte Hawkins: “I have not actually watched Piers Morgan’s Life Stories”.

When Charlotte issued a stunned “What?” Alex responded: “Oh, did I just say the wrong thing?” Then, when by Charlotte whether he thought he’d “get away with it”, Alex jokily replied: “I don’t see him that often anymore”.

Hitting back via social media platform X, then known as Twitter, Piers tweeted: “To be fair, I’ve never watched his weather reports.”

    Explosive Meghan Markle row

Although GMB viewers had long suspected Piers and Alex weren’t on drinking buddy terms, their fiery fallout over Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, left no doubt that the pair did not see eye to eye.

On March 9, 2021, the morning after Meghan and her husband Prince Harry joined Oprah Winfrey for a bombshell interview, Piers entered the studio all guns blazing, accusing the Duchess of not being truthful about the suicidal thoughts she experienced during her time at the palace.

Piers, who had long expressed his dislike of Meghan, raged: “I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word of what she says, Meghan Markle. I wouldn’t believe it if she read me a weather report. The fact that she’s fired up this onslaught against our Royal Family, I think, is contemptible.”

He also took issue with Meghan’s claims that there were “concerns and conversations” over how dark Prince Archie’s skin colour would be, before he was born.

Offering his own thoughts in response to Piers’ outburst, meteorologist Alex said: “I understand that you don’t like Meghan Markle [Piers] – you’ve made it so clear a number of times on this programme, a number of times. I understand you’ve got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle or had one, and she cut you off.

“She’s entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don’t think she has, but yet you continue to trash her.”

Taking issue with this criticism, Piers butted in, announcing: “OK, I’m done with this” as he strode off set, barking: “You can trash me mate, but not while I’m [inaudible].”

Branding Piers’ behaviour as “diabolical”, Alex continued: “No, no, no – oh, do you know what, that’s pathetic. I’m being serious. This is absolutely diabolical behaviour. I’m sorry, but Piers spouts off on a regular basis, and we all have to sit there and listen. At 6.30 to 7 o’clock yesterday was incredibly hard to watch, incredibly hard to watch.”

Alex went on to explain how Meghan’s story had resonated with him personally, as he himself had previously dealt with a former colleague asking him whether he was “worried” about “the shade of cocoa” his own baby would be.

Delving further into his stance via social media later that same day, Alex wrote: “I wish I had the privilege to sit on the fence. In order for me to do that, I would have to strip myself of my identity, and that’s not something I can do. It’s not any of our places to pick apart claims of racism in order to make us to feel more comfortable.”

Piers’ tirade attracted more than 41,000 Ofcom complaints, and he ultimately stood down from his position, while standing by the comments he’d made about the Duchess of Sussex.

    ‘Treacherous’ accusations

Recalling his own thought process during the initial altercation, Piers remembered: “And so at that moment, I thought there are two things that are going to happen here. Either I’m going to lose my rag and do something I regret – or I’m going to go and walk off. I don’t like to think about what I would have done. I was certainly looking at him thinking, ‘Yeah, I better leave the room’.”

He added: “Just for the record, I think he was a treacherous little p***k. So he can say what he likes about me. He absolutely has a right to his opinion. That is my opinion about him.”

Oscar winners 2025 in full as Emilia Perez suffers huge loss after record 11 nominations

The Oscars 2025 provided some huge wins for hit movie Anora – but it was a difficult night for Emilia Perez, who won just two out of the 11 categories they were nominated in

Anora was the big winner at the Oscars 2025 – as Emilia Perez suffered a tough night.

The 2025 Academy Awards went without a hitch this evening, with it being a great night for Sean Baker and Anora as they won no less than five awards including the coveted Best Picture and Mikey Madison picked up Best Actress in a Leading Role. Anora’s director Sean Baker also won in his category whilst the film picked up Best Original Screenplay and Best Film Editing.

Meanwhile, it wasn’t such a good night for Emilia Perez. The movie had been nominated in a whopping 11 categories this year, with it picking up two of those awards – with Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Zoe Saldaña and Best Original Song for El Mal.

Wicked picked up two awards in the Best Production Design and Best Costume Design categories and Dune: Part Two won Best Sound and Best Visual Effects.

There was an emotional tribute to Gene Hackman, who died just a few days ago, whilst the show’s host Conan O’Brien didn’t mince his words when it came to controversial Emilia Perez star Karla Sofia Gascon.

Collecting the Best Picture award, Anora’s producer Alex Coco said: “We made this movie independently. If you’re trying to make independent films, please keep doing it. We need more. This is proof.”

Director Sean Baker then said: “I want to thank the Academy for recognising a truly independent film. This film was made with the blood, sweat and tears of incredible indie artists and… long live independent film!”

When Mikey Madison picked up the Best Actress role, she admitted it was “very surreal”. Speaking to the stars packed into the Dolby Theater, she said: “Wow this is very surreal. Forgive me, I’m nervous so I’m going to read off a paper. Thank you so much to the Academy. I grew up in Los Angeles but Hollywood always felt so far away from me, so to be here, standing in this room today is really incredible … Thank you to my incredible family, my mom and my dad, and my sister and my little brother and my twin brother Miles, thank you for being my best friend, not that you have a choice…

“I also want to recognise the thoughtful, intelligent, beautiful and breathtaking work of my fellow nominees. I’m honoured to be recognised alongside all of you, this is a dream come true and I’m probably going to wake up tomorrow. Loose Women’s Ruth Langsford shares health update after hospital incident

Ruth Langsford’s mother, Joan, suffered a fall in December fracturing her pelvis less than a year after breaking her hip

Ruth Langsford has given fans an update on her mother’s health following a recent accident. The Loose Women star previously shared that her mother, Joan, suffered a fall, fracturing her pelvis less than a year after breaking her hip.

Despite the family’s relief that Joan didn’t require surgery, the 94-year-old was advised to spend some time recuperating in hospital. Thankfully, she was given the all-clear to return home in January, where she joined Ruth and her dog, Maggie.

“Mum soaking up this gorgeous sunshine and rocking my sunglasses and padded gilet from @qvcuk,” Ruth said, posting to Instagram yesterday. “Thank you for all your kind enquires about her….she’s recovering brilliantly after fracturing her pelvis in December…

“Charging around again on her walker like a good ‘un! Hope I’ll have her grit and energy when I’m 94! LEGEND.” Joan received care from nursing staff at Woking Community Hospital and St Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey.

Ruth said the whole ordeal had certainly shifted her perspective on life, as her mother was sadly unable to partake in usual Christmas festivities last December. At the time, Ruth explained: “No dancing in my kitchen peeling the veg for my darling Mum this Christmas.

“This time last year she fell and broke her hip but recovered well…she’s a very strong woman so I’m sure she’ll recover from this too. Put’s life and what’s important into perspective eh?”

The heartfelt update comes just months after Ruth herself faced a health issue, having previously revealed to her followers that she’d been housebound for several days.

“I’ve had a couple of days at home with the lurgy but feeling better today so I ventured out for a stroll with Maggie,” the 64-year-old said, before commenting: “Nice to get some fresh air.”

Ruth’s health struggles also follow her recent split from ex co-star Eamonn Holmes. The couple were married for 14 years before announcing their separation last May.

Four months later, Eamonn was spotted in Barcelona with his alleged love interest, Katie Alexander, who is 22 years his junior. Reports suggest Eamonn and Katie met a few years ago and grew closer as things turned rocky between him and Ruth.

  • Zara Tindall’s brilliant response to Mike’s 4am drunken antics at Princess Anne’s home

Zara Tindall’s brilliant response to Mike’s 4am drunken antics at Princess Anne’s home

Former England rugby star Mike Tindall has told how he was woken up by police officers in riot gear after being caught on CCTV “struggling to get to the doorway”

Rugby legend Mike Tindall has shared a hilarious story about how his wife Zara got revenge on him after a late night out.

Mike, who had a coaching clinic to attend the next morning, had been out with a friend and was struggling to get back to his mother-in-law Princess Anne’s flat at St James’ Palace, where he was staying.

Zara, determined to get him up and ready, enlisted the help of the palace police, who burst into the room in full riot gear, complete with machine guns, and ordered Mike to get moving. Mike said: “I was meant to be there in 45 minutes. My friend rings up Zara, who phoned the police post at the palace.

“They started giggling, saying they saw me at 4am on video cameras struggling to get to the doorway. She says, “I don’t care what you do. He needs to be in North London in 35 minutes.”

He continued: “Next thing, five guys in full riot gear with machine guns come in saying, “Get up, get up”. ‘I was, like, “F***!” And in three minutes, I was in the back of a cab, with the police waving me off.’”

Mike shared the amusing anecdote at a charity fundraiser for DEBRA, which supports those living with epidermolysis bullosa (EB), reports Gloucestershire Live.

Zara and Mike got married in July 2011 at Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh. The reception was held at the Palace of Holyroodhouse and reportedly included a vodka fountain. Mike was reportedly met with a particular request from his mother-in-law, Princess Anne, about his appearance.

The former rugby star had suffered numerous injuries over his career, resulting in a notably misshapen nose after breaking it at least eight times.

While on Sky’s A League of Their Own, he shared that Anne had suggested he get surgery before his wedding, an idea he initially turned down but later reconsidered. In a 2022 chat on Loose Women with Vernon Kay, Mike explained the real reason behind his decision to undergo surgery.

Vernon remarked: “Your nose was literally underneath your left eye from rugby. It wasn’t just for looks you had it done?” To which Mike responded: “No, I was stopping breathing during sleep, so it needed to be done. I also had my teeth done but that was because they were crossed and looked like a bag of chips.”

It was previously reported that Zara Tindall could possibly become William’s Princess Anne in a slimmed down monarchy when he eventually takes the throne.

Angela Mollard, a columnist for News Corp, speaking on Sky News Australia, said: “This commentary that’s happening is, ‘Is William making the right decisions around slimming it down?’

“I think he’s not, and to your point Louise (Roberts) earlier about that really close relationship between him and Zara, you’re absolutely right; they are the best of friends.

Kelly Brook became teary on ITV’s Loose Women today as she opened up about her initial struggles in her marriage to Jeremy Parisi

Loose Women star Kelly Brook became emotional during today’s show as she was surprised by her husband Jeremy Parisi – and admitted a major challenge for them in their marriage.

During today’s Oscar-themed show, Kelly named her husband Jeremy as her biggest supporter – with the French model making a surprise appearance in black tie

Kelly was overjoyed to see her husband and shed a tear when he spoke about how supportive she had been during their ten-year relationship.

“Well, I moved to the UK ten years ago and she was very supportive and protective. So this is the most important thing,” he said.

Kelly added: “We’ve been together ten years and we’ll be married three years in April. It’s been a wild journey. We have a lot of fun together but gosh, it’s been so difficult for us.”

She went onto reveal that keeping up a long-distance relationship was initially hard for the couple. “When you meet someone who lives in another country to find and find that middle ground and make it work, it’s been really challenging. but we got there, didn’t we? We got there. When you want it to work, it works.”

Kelly wasn’t the emotional one on the panel, with Denise Welch tearing up as she spoke about her husband Lincoln. Opening up about how he’s been her rock, Denise said: “For a couple who met many years ago in a nightclub at six in the morning, that doesn’t open until four.

“We got sober together, we’ve been sober for 13 years this year and we’ve been married for 12. He is my rock and my best friend, and I couldn’t live without him.”

Earlier in the week, Loose Women’s Penny Lancaster opened up about her friendship with Donald Trump – and how it turned sour when he ran for president”We have a house in Florida up the road from him so from time to time we would engage in those events. But, when he began to run for President and then starting to hear those very dangerous rhetorics – those comments where he said Mexicans were rapists and that Muslims were terrorists,” he said.

“I [thought], ‘Woah, this is just crossing all sorts of boundaries.’ This man sounds like he’s going to disrupt the world in a very unfortunate way,” she revealed: “From that point onwards, I said to my husband, ‘Darling, we are not going anywhere near him, again I cannot be in the same space with someone that can speak that kind of language’. So in the end, we turned down any further [function] invitations and that was it.”

She said: ‘I’m very grateful that my mum is here. You will have heard me talk about my mum and her battle with cancer right now. My mum has always been my best friend, my fiercest rock, my sounding board, my steady Eddy.”

She continued: “Even in this chapter, my mum is teaching me the most profound, beautiful lessons and I just feel very grateful, you’re my hero.” The audience then erupted into applause, and Ayda stepped out towards her mother who she gave a huge hug to.

On Sunday night, Robbie missed out on a chance to be nominated for an Oscar following the release of his biopic, Better Man. The film told the story of the former Take That star’s rise to prominence – but a creative decision was made to showcase him as a CGI monkey rather than have an actor portray his appearance.

A song was created as part of the film, titled Forbidden Road, and it was submitted to be nominated for the Best Music (Original Song) award. While the song was initially in the running, it was later disqualified when it became apparent the track featured a sample of an older song, thus making it unqualified as an original new offering.

Robbie expressed his disappointment about the ruling, telling Deadline ahead of the Golden Globes in January: “Listen, the rules are the rules, and you have to go by them. And it would’ve been nice, but as an introvert it’s another party that I don’t have to go to. I went through it, I’m on the other side and it’s all good. I’m at the Globes and they’re showing me loads of love.”

The category was won on Sunday night by the song El Mal from the film Emilia Pérez with music by Clément Ducol and Camille and lyrics by Clément Ducol, Camille, and Jacques Audiard. Fellow musicians Diane Warren, Abraham Alexander, Adrian Quesada, Brandi Carlile, Andrew Watt, Bernie Taupin and Sir Elton John had also been in the running for the award.

Denise Welch used dozens of ‘panty pads’ due to laughter working with Ricky Tomlinson

Loose Women star Denise Welch opened up on her time with Ricky Tomlinson as the veteran actor joined the panel for discussion on the popular ITV talk show

Denise Welch had the Loose Women panel in stitches as she recalled the time she worked with legendary actor Ricky Tomlinson.

Co-hosts Ruth Langsford, Kelly Brook and Ayda Field joined the Geordie actress on the infamous ITV panel show for a special edition focusing on the Oscars party. As they all dressed for the golden and glamorous theme, the women invited Scouse star Ricky to the stage to speak about the key highlights of his career.

The actor, now 85, who is best known for playing character Jim Royle in The Royle Family, as well as starring in soap opera Brookside as Bobby Grant and DCI Charlie Wise from Cracker, gushed over his success. It led to Denise posing a cheeky question, saying: “Obviously, it’s Oscars day, who would you say in the whole of your career – and it’s been a really long and wonderful career – was your favourite leading lady?” jokingly pointing to herself.

Charmingly, Ricky took her hand and, after kissing the back of it, replied: “I can’t remember her name!” which caused the co-host to burst into laughter. Denise then added: “We did three series of a show called Down to Earth and Ricky and I were husband and wife. We spent three years, pretty much, in Cornwall together and I have never laughed and gone through as many panty pads in my entire life, I can tell you.”

Ricky added: “I’ve been so lucky, I’ve worked with so many people and I know nothing about show business. I was a political prisoner and I didn’t star in the game until my late 40s.” He went on to reminisce how little he knew about the industry when he asked someone “are you in show business?” Shockingly, it turned out Ricky had indeed posed the question to Robert De Niro.

Ricky worked as a plasterer before his stint in showbiz. He took part in the UK’s first national building workers’ strike in 1972 as workers hit out at low pay, dangerous working conditions, and unfair employment practices. He went on to spend two years in prison due to his involvement after he was arrested and sentenced.

Last year, during an appearance on The One Show, Ricky caused chaos as he dropped the F-word live on air before the watershed. He had been regaling hosts Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas about his time on the smash-hit Royle Family. Recalling working with co-star Sue Johnstone, who played his beleaguered wife Barb, he said: “When we met, I’d done one job and I bluffed my way into it – a movie with Roland Joffe. He upset me in the audition and I told him to stick it. I hadn’t long been out of jail and he was winding me up in the audition and I told him to stick it and was walking down the stairs and he shouted, ‘I know who you are, you’re Ricky Tomlinson’. And I’m shouting…”

It was then that the actor mouthed “f*** off” in full view of the camera as he shook his fist in the air as though to express his anger from the encounter. The episode was quickly pulled from the BBC’s catch-up service, iPlayer.
