Prince Harry has been estranged from the royal family for some time – and his latest bombshell interview with the BBC will likely have only further deepened the rift with the royals, according to experts

The gulf between Prince Harry and King Charles is as wide as it has ever been. Days ago, the Duke of Sussex admitted that he is no longer in contact with his father as he gave another explosive interview—a decision that critics said would only deepen his rift with the royals.

Fractures in Harry’s relationship with Charles have been increasingly evident following the Sussexes’ decision to quit royal life, and subsequently criticise the royals in interviews, their Netflix show, and in his controversial memoir Spare.

Perhaps the strongest indicator came in February 2024. Following the King’s cancer diagnosis announcement, Harry flew over to London from California, while his wife and children stayed at their Montecito home.

But despite the distance travelled, Harry’s meeting with Charles lasted just 12 minutes, according to royal author Lady Colin Campbell. She said, “My understanding is actually the meeting lasted exactly 12 minutes, not 30 minutes or 45 minutes and Harry took it upon himself, without an invitation, to get on a plane, fly over and inform the King’s office that he was arriving.

“One could actually wonder who was the visit for? Was it for Harry? Was it for the king? Or was it for Netflix or was it a combination of all three?” she told GB News at the time. “I don’t think anybody is particularly convinced that Harry has done this for any other reason but to work himself into the narrative and keep himself at the forefront of the public’s attention.”

It was also noted by commentators that Prince William did not meet with his brother during that visit – or any of his subsequent trips. Royal expert Jennie Bond told OK! that William’s stance suggests he has completely disowned his sibling.

“I think we have to give up hope that the rift between the brothers will be healed at any time in the near future, or indeed ever,” she said last year. “William’s head and heart must be bursting with all that he has on his plate right now: his wife’s cancer treatment, his father’s illness, his children growing up fast, the pressure for him to take on more royal duties, the prospect of becoming King earlier than he might ever have wanted.

“Dealing with ‘the Harry problem’ is probably just one step too far for William. I believe he has moved on with his life and has, to all intents and purposes, disowned the brother to whom he was once so close.”

In his most recent interview, Harry spoke with BBC News on May 2, shortly after a judge dismissed his legal challenge concerning his reduced security after stepping back as a working member of the royal family in 2020.

“I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore,” he said. “Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has,” he continued, referencing King Charles . “He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff, but it would be nice to reconcile.”

Harry further claimed his security issues “could be resolved” through King Charles. “There is a lot of control and ability in my father’s hands,” he said. “Ultimately, this whole thing could be resolved through him. Not necessarily by intervening, but by stepping aside, allowing the experts to do what is necessary.”

The palace has consistently denied that the King has the power to have Harry’s security reinstated. In response, one source told the Sunday Telegraph that it showed there is “nothing that can be trusted to remain private” and “as for their being no contact, well, he has just proven why, yet again”.

And another insider told ITV News: “For a son who claims to want a family reconciliation, it’s certainly a very curious way to build bridges or offer olive branches. His beloved grandmother would have been truly horrified. The King is a kind man with a warm heart and quite enough on his plate to deal with, without all this from his son.”

The fallout may be continuing over Prince Harry’s bombshell interview after losing the latest round in his court battle over security. But the Duke of Sussex has a very happy reason to celebrate today as he and Meghan’s oldest child Prince Archie turns six. Harry’s children, which also includes three-year-old Princess Lilibet, are at the centre of his world with insiders describing the Duke’s home life as a “happy bubble”.

The children are now often carefully featured in Meghan’s Instagram posts, helping her to bake cookies in the kitchen, collect berries from their vast garden’s fruit bushes and whip up breakfast for the family. In a defiant post after Friday’s court loss and subsequent explosive interview where Harry claimed his father the King no longer speaks to him, the Duke could be seen in a family snap holding Archie’s hand while balancing Lilibet on his shoulders.

Despite it being Archie’s birthday, Harry is set to head to Las Vegas today, where he will launch a new youth initiative with the Diana Award, set up in memory of his late mother, Princess Diana.

But former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond believes the Sussexes will still ensure Archie has an incredible birthday celebration. She told the Mirror, “I’m sure Harry and Meghan will make his birthday magical, and Meghan will obviously make it all very pretty and tasteful as well!”

However, any celebration will be filled with sadness, given that Harry’s father, the King, will almost certainly not be involved in any celebrations. Just last week, in his interview with the BBC, Harry laid bare the stark nature of his relationship with the King.

Harry claimed his father, who is being treated for cancer, will not speak to him, and he does not know “how much longer my father has” as he spoke of his hopes for a “reconciliation”. The interview came after losing his Court of Appeal challenge over his security arrangements, and he said he “can’t see a world in which I would be bringing my wife and children back to the UK.”

The stand-off between father and son means that, since Archie and, indeed, Lilibet, have not spent much time with their grandfather. However, it wasn’t always such a fraught relationship – especially with Archie – with the King saying he “couldn’t be more delighted” when he was born in May 2019. When he was christened, the King’s former Clarence House Instagram account shared a touching photo of Charles proudly gazing at Archie.

However, as Harry and Meghan decided to dramatically quit as working royals and up sticks from the UK and move to the United States in early 2020, the King has spent little time with his young grandson. Their last meeting was in 2022 when Archie came to the UK with his parents during the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

And Jennie believes it is still a “great sadness” for the King to be a stranger to his two grandchildren, as well as it seems these days to his youngest son, Harry. She says: “He always loved Harry – he called him ‘darling boy’. And I’m sure he still loves Harry and would love even more to be able to spend time with Archie and Lilibet.

“Charles is a sentimental man and a doting grandfather to George, Charlotte and Louis. And I’m sure as his struggle with cancer continues, he thinks more about the great loss of not being able to spend time with Harry’s children.

“It would be very nice if the King, and William and Catherine, marked young Archie‘s sixth birthday in some way. After all, it’s not the poor little lad’s fault that all this has happened. So I hope that, either publicly or privately, they do at least send the little boy their good wishes.”

Another relative to have spent little time with Harry’s children is his older brother Prince William, who has “no incentive” to speak to Harry after his latest outburst as his taxpayer-funded security row ended in defeat.

The rift between the Sussexes and the royal family opened significantly following their interview with Oprah Winfrey, during which they alleged a member of the family was concerned about their son Archie’s skin tone before he was born.

Then the duke claimed in his controversial memoir, Spare, that William had physically attacked him, that the King put his own interests above Harry’s and was jealous of Meghan.

For Jennie, the current state of affairs, which sees William and Harry bring up their children on opposite sides of the Atlantic without speaking, would have once been unthinkable. “I always imagined Harry and William remaining close and enjoying watching their children grow up together,” she explains.

“And I guess there must be times when they both think the same. But there is absolutely no sign of the cousins ever getting to know one another. Harry probably has more time and reason than William to think about the rift that he has caused and I’m sure it is a great sadness to him. But he has chosen a different life in a different country, and that looks as if it is where he will stay.

Now it seems that any way for the royals to get to know Harry’s children would be for a reconciliation between the Firm and the Duke of Sussex, something he said he would like to happen.

However, according to Majesty Magazine editor-in-chief Ingrid Seward, Harry’s apology for his past actions will be a long time coming despite his pleas.

She told the Mirror: “He refuses to take responsibility for his actions. If he wants reconciliation, why does he still attack his family? Harry’s stubbornness will almost certainly prevent him from bringing his wife and children to the UK. At least in the immediate future. He said he realised he had upset the ‘family’ but never once offered to apologise.

“The King knows this. But he also understands that under Harry’s accusatory exterior, he is extremely vulnerable. But as King, Charles needs total trust. He is Head of State and Monarch and that has to come first as Charles vowed at his coronation. “He will be very sad it has come to this. But if he can’t trust Harry, he has to avoid him until such time things change. If they ever do.

Meghan Markle posted a photo in honour of Prince Archie’s sixth birthday – but there is something missing. The Duchess of Sussex shared the snap of her son in his pyjamas as he looks out over a terrace at the sun set over the sea.

Meghan, 43, captioned the post: “Our son. Our sun. Happy 6th birthday to Archie! Thank you for all of the love, prayers, and warm wishes for our sweet boy. He’s six! Where did the time go? (And for all of you who came to celebrate with us at his party last weekend, thank you for making his birthday so incredibly special).”

The proud mum shared the snap online, referring to her son by his name, and not by his royal title – Prince Archie.

It has now led to questions by royal fans who wonder if she did it on purpose and didn’t use his title after Prince Harry’s bombshell interview with the BBC on Friday, where he claimed his father, King Charles, no longer speaks to him.

It comes after Meghan rejoined social media this year, five years after quitting the Royal Family.

The birthday post was made shortly after Harry’s BBC interview, when he lost his court of appeal for his tax payers funded security. Despite quitting as a working royal in 2020 and moving to the US, the duke insisted on security for visits to the UK still.

The prince told the BBC: “Everybody knew that they were putting us at risk in 2020 and they hoped that me knowing that risk would force us to come back. But then when you realise that didn’t work, do you not want to keep us safe?”

Elsewhere in the interview, Harry also detailed how he hopes for a reconciliation with his family, but hinted that the relationship between himself and his father was challenging. He also confessed he doesn’t think he will bring his wife or two children, Archie and Lilibet, to the UK.

In response to the BBC interview, a Palace spokesperson said: “All of these issues have been examined repeatedly and meticulously by the courts, with the same conclusion reached on each occasion.”

Meanwhile, it’s not known if any members of the Royal Family have wished Prince Archie a happy birthday privately, and no members of the Royal Family were believed to have flown to Montecito in California – where Meghan and Harry have lived since 2020 – to attend the young royal’s birthday party.

Katie Price took to social media to heap the praise on her daughter, Princess, after she enjoyed a holiday with dad Peter Andre. Katie shared a sweet statement on Instagram, as she also paid tribute to daughter Bunny.

The mum of five shared a message to “both my daughters” on the platform. She wrote: “I just be lookin at my daughter like girl you are sooo prettyyy!!,” followed by a love heart emoji.

The praise of Princess and Bunny comes as the teen enjoys a lavish getaway with her dad. Princess and Junior were joined by their siblings, and Peter’s kids with wife Emily, Amelia, 11, Theo, eight, and baby Arabella, one.

The trip came shortly after youngster Arabella Rose’s first birthday last month. The doting parents shared an adorable tribute at the time, revealing they couldn’t believe how fast the time had gone.

“How is our baby 1 already?! @peterandre,” Emily wrote on Instagram. “Time, please slow down. From teeny tiny to full of personality — Happy Birthday to our very own Baby Belle.”

It’s thought Princess is ready to follow in her parents’ showbiz career. Reports suggest the teen is lining up a huge reality TV career as the ‘next Kylie Jenner’.

Reports of an upcoming show featuring the Andre family are in development. While details have being kept under wraps, it is expected to include Princess as she navigates adulthood, launches her modelling career, and finds her own place in the industry – just like her famous mum once did.

According to PR expert Dermot McNamara, Princess’s transition to reality TV is a natural next step, especially because of her famous parents. He said: “Looking back, Katie Price was the original influencer.

“She was one of the first celebrities to get brand deals and create products. She was writing books, creating perfumes, and doing all those things that we see reality stars do now – many years ago.”

Dermot added: “She and Peter Andre were some of the first celebrities on Twitter, and they were vlogging long before it became a thing. We’ve known them for decades and we’ve watched Princess grow up, so her own TV show would be a natural progression.

“There will be a huge core audience who followed her parents, and also a brand-new audience who are more interested in Princess herself.”

The BBC has admitted to failing to properly challenge Prince Harry’s claims that he is victim of ‘good old fashioned establishment stitch up’, in his recent interview

The BBC has admitted to a lapse in ‘our usual high editorial standards’ following the coverage of the BBC News’ interview with the Duke of Sussex on May 2.

Prince Harry spoke to the broadcaster after losing a Court of Appeal challenge over his security arrangements while in the UK. He then characterised the defeat as an “establishment stitch-up”.

The interview was covered the next day by BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, and how the Duke described the court defeat as a “good old-fashioned establishment stitch-up”.

The BBC apologised on its Corrections and Clarifications website
In an interview with close protection expert Richard Aitch on BBC Radio 4’s Today Programme the BBC says the Duke’s “stitch-up” claims were “repeated”. The BBC has now admitted that this fell short of their editorial standards.

On its Corrections and Clarifications website, the BBC said: “We failed to properly challenge this and other allegations.

“This case is ultimately the responsibility of the Home Office and we should have reflected their statement.”

The broadcaster also added that the programme “should have given the view of Buckingham Palace”, and “this was a lapse in our usual high editorial standards”.

The Home Office said: “We are pleased that the court has found in favour of the Government’s position in this case.

“The UK Government’s protective security system is rigorous and proportionate. It is our long-standing policy not to provide detailed information on those arrangements, as doing so could compromise their integrity and affect individuals’ security.”

Speaking in response to the failed legal challenge, a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said: “All of these issues have been examined repeatedly and meticulously by the courts, with the same conclusion reached on each occasion.”

During the Today interview, Richard Aitch claimed he was “shocked but not surprised” by the judgement.

The director of operations at security services company Mobius International, then continued by saying that the “provision of protection should not be based on legal argument”, but on assessment of “risk and threat against Harry”, and then agreed that it had been a “stitch up”.

Mr Aitch then took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to say: “There should not be any need to apologise @BBCNews for opinion based interviews.

“Absence of a threat and risk assessment on Prince Harry where the focus is on legal process influenced by the recommendations of a committee that is not independent, it defines ‘stitch up’.”

Elsewhere in his bombshell interview, Prince Harry expressed his desire for “reconciliation” with the Royal Family. During the interview, Harry claimed that his father, King Charles is no longer on speaking terms with him due to the security issues.

“He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff,” he said, before adding: “For the time being it is impossible for me to bring my family back to the UK safely.”

The King attended the premiere of Sir David Attenborough’s “most important story” as he celebrated one of Britain’s national treasures.

Charles, a lifelong environmentalist, walked the ‘blue carpet’ at London’s Royal Festival Hall before heading inside to watch the beloved natural history TV presenter’s new film, Ocean with David Attenborough.

The pair chatted animatedly together as they met before the film, which sees Sir David deliver an urgent message about the importance of a healthy ocean, was played to 2,000 guests.

In the film, he describes the oceans as “the greatest asset against climate change” before adding a stark warning. “Today, it is in such poor health I would find it hard not to lose hope were it not for the most remarkable discovery of all,” he said. “If we save the sea, we save our world. After a lifetime of filming our planet, I’m sure nothing is more important.”

The King arrived at the London venue at 7:30 pm and was met by a short line-up outside, which included actor Theo James, documentary photographer and campaigner Alice Aedy and Marine Ecologist Dr Enric Sala, who Charles wrote the foreword to his 2020 book ‘The Nature of Nature: Why We Need the Wild’ when he was Prince of Wales.

He then made his way upstairs, where he met a second line-up of producers and partners of the film.

“How are you, Sir?” one person asked the King as he walked into the upstairs bar area, to which His Majesty replied: “I’m great”.

He was then introduced to Sir David and his daughter, Susan, and they chatted about the environmentalist’s upcoming 99th birthday on Thursday.

As the two stars of the evening were directed to stand in front of a backdrop to pose for photographs, Sir David turned around and noticed everyone had quietly left the room and made their way to their seats.

He joked: “They have all disappeared!”

Laughing, the pair chatted animatedly as they had their photographs taken before heading into the auditorium to watch the film.

King Charles is a lifelong environmentalist

Earlier, the King’s niece, Princess Eugenie shared a one-minute trailer for the film on her Instagram account. Toby Nowlan, who produced Ocean, described the film as Sir David’s “most important story he has ever told”. He said: “It is ultimately a story of hope for everyone on Earth. “The message is: if save the sea, we save our world.”

Asked how the film came about, the producer said: “A lot of people got together and said we need to make a seminal film to enact change for our ocean to be released now.”

Mr Nowlan went on to heap praise on the 98-year-old and said it was “a real privilege” to work alongside him.

“He’s the most incredible human, he’s a complete inspiration,” he said. “David Attenborough is everything you would hope he would be. He’s not just the most gifted and wonderful storyteller of our time, and has travelled and seen more of the world than any other and is in the best position to give us a story like this, he is also incredibly humble, he is incredibly good at listening. He’s just brilliant.”

The producer said it was “marvellous” that the King was attending the premiere tonight, adding: “It is absolutely wonderful, it is really, really marvellous.

“The prince and the king have done incredible things for the environmental world and conservation and this is just an extension of that.

The film is described as Sir David’s “most important story he has ever told”

“Their presence here really speaks to how this should be such a big moment in time. It could be such a moment in history to try and change and help save the ocean.”

Charles has met Sir David several times before as his work as an ambassador for the natural world and his passion for the planet overlap with the King’s own work to promote sustainability and protect nature and the oceans.

On February 19th 1970, His Majesty, as Prince of Wales, first marked the ‘growing menace’ of oil and plastic pollution in the sea, during a speech at the ‘Countryside In 1970’ conference.

Since then, the monarch has continued to champion the importance of the ocean. Ocean with David Attenborough will be released in cinemas on May 8, to coincide with Sir David’s 99th birthday.

It will be available to stream on Disney+ from Sunday, June 8.

However, sources have claimed there was never any romance between Kim and Brooklyn. Eyes have since turned to Brooklyn’s wife Nicola, who the famous family reportedly want nothing to do with.

There have been claims Nicola has a pattern of starting arguments before family events with her husband pulling out from attending. Reports have claimed Romeo is upset by the situation as Kim is taking the blame.

Yet, Nicola and Brooklyn have reportedly also been left hurt by the fallout. Brooklyn reportedly did intend on going to David’s birthday celebrations before making a major U-turn.

It was claimed that he had wanted to meet his famous dad “privately” in an effort to avoid Kim as the couple “have a problem with her”. However, they were allegedly told they should attend the family gathering with everyone rather than ‘grabbing a quick coffee or breakfast’ with the dad-of-four.

A source close to the situation has now told the Mirror : “Nicola encourages Brooklyn to see his family and is usually the reason Brooklyn does see his family. They are both devastated. They cannot believe that Victoria & David refused to see them privately after they travelled all the way to London specifically to try to repair the relationship.”

They added: “As parents, it’s shocking that Victoria & David are behaving this way… instead of privately discussing the issue. Victoria and David (appear to) have no interest in finding a solution that works for everyone.”

Romeo and Kim made their romance public in November. Brooklyn and Nicola had long shown their support to the former footballer on social media by liking his posts, however it all stopped since the time he got with Kim.

A source connected to the family previously claimed to the Mirror: “Brooklyn not turning up was a real blow to David. Brooklyn was close with his dad growing up, but he is married now.

“His wife Nicola is older and confident in her own right, and so there is distance between Brooklyn and his parents. It has become a problem and not something they can keep private because of the way the family uses social media. Sources have also claimed to The Sun that Brooklyn “flew to London with the sole intention of seeing his family and celebrating his dad’s birthday.
