The former Loose Women star, 55, recently suffered acute kidney injury, sepsis and severe pneumonia, losing ‘80% capacity’ in one lung

Andrea Mclean has opened up about restarting a hobby following her recent health struggle. While the former Loose Women star said it might not seem like a ‘big deal’, she teared up while describing her pride in this accomplishment.

“So, this might not even seem like such a big deal, but for anyone who has kind of lost their way fitness-wise, wellness-wise and all that kind of thing, you’ll know what I’m talking about,” she said in a heartfelt post to Instagram yesterday. “I went to the gym today, and it was the first time going to the gym in forever.

“So much so, I had actually cancelled my gym membership because there wasn’t any point in it, but Nick gave me a guest pass, you know, you can get so many a month. And today was a really big day and, so, I’ve started doing some exercise through my little app.”

Andrea was suffering flu-like symptoms before she collapsed in the bathroom last December. When rushed to the hospital, medics explained that she not only had acute kidney injury and sepsis but severe pneumonia too, losing ‘80% capacity’ in one lung.

Recounting the ordeal on Substack, Andrea said she stayed there for several days and was completely overwhelmed by the bright lights, yelling, screams, and almost constant ‘smell of poo’. Yet, even once she returned home, things didn’t go back to normal.

In March, she collapsed on the bathroom floor for a second time after getting out of bed ‘too fast’. Andrea didn’t specify whether her exercise habits stopped before or after these incidents, but said she hadn’t felt confident for a long time.

On Instagram, the 55-year-old continued: “I hadn’t been confident enough to go back to the gym, so I’ve just been doing it on my own, and that actually makes me feel really sad to say it out loud, that I wasn’t confident enough to go into a gym and do my little app workout.

“[It’s] because I was so, so far from the fit person that I was, and I don’t know, again, it’s such a weird thing to explain if you’ve not kind of lost all your fitness and all that kind of thing and then you’re starting again.”

Andrea attributed her newfound confidence to a wellness week she participated in this month. She trained alongside Olympic athletes and world-class dancers at a venue in Turkey.

“We were invited to take part in this wellness week, and I’d ummed and ahed about going because I knew I’d be at the back, and I was at the back,” she said.

“And it actually didn’t matter. That’s what gave me the confidence to kind of head out the door, and I was actually quite panicky. It sounds so silly, but I was actually quite panicky about going. But I did it, and today is day one.

“I don’t even know why I am getting upset. But anyway, I just wanted to share it with you. Do it. Go anyway, even if you are feeling a bit rubbish, go anyway. Ridiculously, I just feel really good, so I don’t know why I am getting upset.

“I’m feeling really proud of myself that I went, but I’m having day one again because I’ve had so many stops and starts. It’s good, it’s a good thing, don’t know why I am crying. Happy crying? Maybe. Don’t know. Anyway, have a great day.”

Andrea’s post quickly racked up numerous comments from fans, with many expressing their support. One person wrote: “You should be so proud of yourself, well done. The easier option would have been to not go. You know all about pushing yourself out of your comfort zone and you’ve done just that today. But you’ve also started with a beginners mindset again.”

Meanwhile, another added: “Well done Andrea and thank you for your post I needed to hear that today as I am far from my fitness level too… and was feeling overwhelmed and telling myself I can’t do it and where to start but I now realise just start and that I can do it.”

Stacey Solomon ‘worried her career is finished’ after fans slam video rant

After an online backlash to an emotional video she made following her BAFTA snub, a source claims TV’s sweetheart Stacey Solomon is ‘worried it could all end’

Just weeks ago, Stacey Solomon was on top of the world. With her hit BBC show Sort Your Life Out renewed for a sixth season and viewers lapping up her new reality series with husband Joe Swash, the mum-of-five seemed to be unstoppable. But in the space of a few days, the tide seems to have turned – and fans were left wondering if the cracks in her idyllic life are starting to show, as reports OK!.

It all began after the normally smiley Stacey, 35, took to Instagram the morning after the recent Bafta TV Awards to admit she was “devastated” that Sort Your Life Out didn’t win. Filming in her garden, Stacey got emotional while talking about missing out on a gong. “I’ll be honest, I’m devastated. I’m not handling it very well, not taking it very gracefully,” she confessed in a now controversial video. “I’m so gutted for our team.”

    Stacey Solomon on Instagram
Stacey Solomon laid her feelings bare in an emotional video after missing out on a Bafta – but it divided fans.(Image: Instagram)

The Loose Women presenter added, “It’s not an easy show to make… the team works so hard to make it happen, and they so deserve a Bafta.” She explained, “People think making TV is really easy, and it’s not… We all pack up a house, and within seven days, that house is packed into vans, over to a warehouse, laid out on the floor. We go through it meticulously… We donate, we recycle, we resell, put it all back and try and put in systems to help families move forward.”

Some fans applauded her for being “refreshingly honest” and maintained she was simply just “disappointed for her team” and it was “hardly a rant”. Others, however, were left less than impressed, telling her to “get a grip” and to stop being a “bad loser”. Some claimed that Stacey is “showing her true colours” compared to her usual “wholesome” demeanour and said that she has “got too big for her boots”.

Stacey has not commented publicly since her Bafta post, but a source claims the star is worried “it could all be over”. “The negative comments really upset her, she takes them to heart. She never wants to be seen as ungrateful, because she’s not. She had a really humble upbringing and everything she does, she does to give her kids the best opportunities possible. They are what drives her.”

    Sort Your Life Out
Stacey’s BBC show Sort Your Life Out missed out on a Bafta award, to which Stacey responded: “People think making TV is really easy, and it’s not”(Image: BBC/Optomen Television)

“She has a sort of inferiority complex, like imposter syndrome, partly because of where she’s come from. Don’t forget, she became famous on The X Factor and she’s seen so many other people from shows like that just disappear over the years. So the fear of ‘Could I lose it all too? Could it all be over?’’ is always there to some extent.”

“She’s a really hard worker and gives her all to everything, so it’s devastating when it doesn’t pay off, and it understandably makes her worry. But she’s one of telly’s biggest success stories who always wants to keep the wheel turning, so she won’t stop doing what she does best.”

Indeed, she has talked about battling imposter syndrome in the past. In January 2023, the star revealed her constant fear of “losing it all” amid the cost-of-living crisis, as she reflected on having “nothing”. She revealed at the time, “My dad is from a background where he had nothing, like literally nothing, so we could have nothing again. Even to this day I think, ‘Well, we’re comfortable now but something’s going to go wrong at some point, it won’t stay like this forever.’ It’s inherent,” explained Stacey.

    Stacey Solomon at BAFTAs 2025
Insiders say Stacey, pictured at the Baftas, now fears “it could all be over” after the online backlash – but with another series of Sort Your Life Out in the works, Stacey’s still one of TV’s biggest stars(Image: Alan Chapman/Dave Benett/Getty I)

She added, “You’re constantly thinking, ‘I’d better hold on to that’ and ‘I’d better not waste that’ because in a few months’ time, I could be on the street.” To make matters worse, Stacey’s sister, Jemma, chimed in with an Instagram post slamming the Bafta judges, which many fans felt fanned the flames.

Jemma, 36, said, “If only it was a public vote, I think things would have been a little different.” And as if the backlash over her Bafta reaction wasn’t enough, Sort Your Life Out has come under fire, too. After a recent episode, some criticised the show for failing to acknowledge the emotional toll of hoarding, while others felt the team was “too harsh”. But Stacey insisted it’s about empowering families – not judging them. “It’s so hard to let someone into your house when you’re going through a difficult time,” she said.

And there are rumbles behind the scenes. In one episode of Stacey & Joe, Joe, 43, is shown in therapy, tearfully admitting he feels like a “huge problem” in their relationship. While the couple have long been known for their relatable – if sometimes chaotic – dynamic, some viewers worry they might be struggling with the demands of work, fame and family. With two toddlers and four older children between them, plus multiple businesses and TV commitments, it’s no surprise things might feel tense.

But with another series of Sort Your Life Out on the way, a happy home life and legions of fans still cheering her on, Stacey’s future remains bright. Sure, it’s been a tricky time of late, but if anyone knows how to tidy up a mess with a smile, it’s Stacey.

Jane Moore from Loose Women has candidly discussed her “unsettling” period of “sofa-surfing” after she sold her family home amid her recent divorce. A regular face on Loose Women since the very first show in 1999 alongside Nadia Sawalha, Kaye Adams, and Karren Brady, Jane has become a cherished part of the ITV programme.

Initially carving out a career in journalism, ITV’s Jane Moore is now better known for her broadcasting roles, appearing on popular shows like This Morning, Question Time, and The Andrew Marr Show, as well as braving the jungle for I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! last year.

Despite being seen giving out relationship advice on TV, Jane has navigated intense personal trials, including the end of her marriage to Gary Farrow in 2022, reports the Daily Record.

Celebrating her 63rd birthday, Jane revealed her struggles post-divorce, including “sofa-surfing” with help from friends.

In an open article for Platinum magazine, Jane spoke about her temporary “nomadic” lifestyle.

She remarked: “After selling the family home to downsize, I put the majority of my possessions into storage and embarked on a period of nomadic sofa-surfing until I found a new abode.”

One adventurous woman has disclosed her unique journey of ‘sofa-surfing’ across London’s luxurious homes after her children flew the nest, quipping: “Well, I say sofa-surfing.

But, thanks to my generous, mostly divorced friends, who live alone and welcome company, I was offered a variety of gorgeous en-suite bedrooms in multiple London locations.”

She experienced life in some of London’s most sought-after areas like Notting Hill and Chelsea’s King’s Road, which she relished until realising it was high time to “put down roots again” and create her own home.

The dalliance with a transient lifestyle left the once methodically organised wanderer expressing: “I’m starting to feel slightly chaotic which, as a hitherto organised person, is unsettling me.”

In other news not tied to her housing situation, whilst chatting on the Loose Women podcast, she offered an insight into her amicable relationship with her ex-husband post-divorce.

Jane revealed on the programme that she and her former partner, along with their daughters Ellie and Grace, have successfully maintained a friendly atmosphere, even celebrating Christmas Day together.

This Morning’s Alison Hammond has been forced to pull out of the show hours before she was set to go live as ITV have announced her last minute replacement

Alison Hammond has been forced to pull out of This Morning just hours before she was set to go live on air this morning.

The former Big Brother star usually presents the show on Friday with Dermot O’Leary – but took to Instagram this morning to reveal she has to pull out due to bad hayfever. Lisa Snowdon will be stepping in and joining Dermot live at 10.

Alison made the announcement via her Instagram story this morning, announcing: “I’ve put a filter on this because I look so rough.”

Sounding congested, the 50-year-old continued: “I’ve had the worst hayfever for the last 2-3 days. It’s hit me like a bus.

One Direction’s Liam Payne worked with Kelly Rowland and Nicole Scherzinger on Netflix’s Building The Band prior to his death last year and the show is set to be released this year

The late Liam Payne’s family are said to have given their blessing for his “final” TV show to be released this year. It comes following the news that Netflix will launch Building the Band, which features him as a judge, over the summer.

Liam filmed the reality TV show just months before he died, aged 31, in October last year. He was on the judging panel alongside Nicole Scherzinger and Kelly Rowland, with all three of the judges having been in bands themselves.

There had been some speculation about the show’s future following Liam’s death, and it was announced by Netflix earlier this month that Building The Band will air later this year. The show is now set to launch “later this summer”.

It has since been reported that Liam’s family have backed plans to air the show, which he’s said to have finished filming just two months before his death. Producers reportedly provided footage to some of his loved ones in advance.

A source told the Sun: “Liam was on great form at filming so everyone’s pleased fans will get to see the ‘real’ him one last time.” They added that it will be “bittersweet” when Building the Band is released by the streaming platform.

The source continued: “Netflix have gone out of their way to make sure his family are happy.” They concluded by saying: “Producers sent them the footage so they are fully aware of what to expect and they have given it their blessing.”

Building the Band was announced last year. It was revealed that Liam, who was a member of One Direction, would be joined by the Pussycat Dolls’ Nicole and Destiny’s Child member Kelly on the judging panel for the TV project.

They aren’t the only cast members with experience of being in the group, though, as the host comes from a similar career background. The show will be hosted by AJ McLean, who is best known as a member of the Backstreet Boys.

Netflix has teased that the show aims to put together a musical group “without any of the members ever seeing each other”. It’s said that the judges bring their “unparalleled expertise” and “personal band experience” to the competition.

The streaming platform said earlier this month that the show gives a group of “talented singers” the “opportunity of a lifetime”. It teases that they are given the chance to “find their perfect bandmates solely based on musical compatibility, connection, and, most importantly, merit”.

Last year, executive producer Cat Lawson described the show as “brave” and “bold”. They said: “Building the Band is a brave and bold undertaking for all involved as we hand over power to the singers themselves to form their own band based on chemistry first.”

Cat added: “With looks out of the equation, can they create a deeper connection with their bandmates? With limited bands, there are difficult decisions and heart-stopping moments along the way, but ultimately the outcome is truly amazing, with bands forming who, in my opinion, are worthy of the very biggest stage!”

  • Prince Harry and Meghan’s feud with Beckhams takes wild turn after Brooklyn decision

Prince Harry and Meghan’s feud with Beckhams takes wild turn after Brooklyn decision

The Sussexes once seemed to have a close relationship with David and Victoria Beckham – but it all turned sour with an awkward phonecall. We take a look back at where it all went wrong…

    Meghan Markle and Prince Harry
Meghan and Harry are said to have found ‘common ground’ with Brooklyn and Nicola(Image: zz/NDZ/STAR MAX/IPx)

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have reportedly hosted Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz for a private dinner at their Montecito home in California, amid ongoing tensions within the Beckham family.

The meet-up was said to have been arranged before the fallout within the Beckham family, with Brooklyn and Nicola notably skipping all of dad David’s recent 50th birthday celebrations. It’s been suggested the two couples “found a lot of common ground,” with Prince Harry and Meghan practically estranged from the most of the royals.

Prince Harry and Meghan are now said to be “secretly supporting” Brooklyn and Nicola, according to The Sun. The surprising development follows reports that Prince Harry had once been pals with David, though the relationship seemingly soured after an awkward suspicion from Meghan. We take a look back at their former friendship – and subsequent falling out.

As the former England football captain, David first crossed paths with Prince Harry many years ago. And at the start of Harry’s relationship with Meghan, David and Victoria were said to have reached out to support the former actress when she first moved to London.

At the time it was reported that Victoria had lent Meghan her all-important little black book of her favourite hairdressers and stylist in the capital. Further details of their friendship were then shared in the press – and it was this that led to the first fallout between the couples.

Meghan reportedly suspected Victoria had ‘leaked’ the stories – promoting a ‘mortifying’ phone conversation between their husbands. A source told The Sun at the time: “Harry was very polite, but obviously it was a pretty awkward exchange and David was mortified. Inexplicably, [Meghan] feared Victoria was behind it — I mean, the idea that Victoria Beckham would be personally ringing journalists to give them a scoop is ridiculous — and spoke to Harry about it.

“Harry is very protective of Meghan, and decided to deal with the matter head-on, by directly contacting his good pal, David. He quickly put Harry right, and the two men agreed to move on — but it certainly made things awkward for a while.”

David and Victoria were on the guest list for Harry and Meghan’s wedding, however. The couple joined the pair’s friends, family, and fellow A-listers at St George’s Chapel on 19 May 2018. But, according to reports, they were only invited to the ceremony – and not the reception afterwards, which is said to have irked the Beckhams.

In October that same year, the Sussexes headed off on a tour of Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific, which coincided with the 2018 Invictus Games in Sydney. Harry had asked David to be an ambassador for the Invictus Games and the former footballer travelled Down Under to show his support for the event.

But things reportedly turned sour when the Prince inexplicably refused to see David in Sydney. It was claimed that the reason Harry was keeping his friend at arms’ length was Meghan – who still feared Victoria was leaking stories about her to the press.

Despite that, David initially said he was ‘proud’ of Harry following the announcement in 2020 that he and Meghan were stepping down from the royal family .

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight , David described Harry as an “amazing” person. “We love him,” he said, speaking on behalf of his wife, Victoria. “But I’m proud to see him growing up as an individual and being that person that every father wants to be.”

    David Beckham and Prince Harry
The two men were once close(Image: PA)

However, following their exit, Harry and Meghan made numerous public attacks on the royal family – and the monarchy, something likely to have upset David, an ardent royalist who famously queued for 12 hours to pay his respects to the Queen as she lay in state.

Since then, the couples have kept their distance. In 2022 when David and Victoria’s eldest son Brooklyn married actress Nicola in a lavish wedding in Florida, Harry and Meghan were nowhere to be seen.

And when David welcomed football superstar Lionel Messi to his Inter Miami team, a star-studded crowd were in attendance for his debut. But again the Sussexes weren’t there.

One issue between the Sussexes and the Beckhams could be David’s close connection to Prince William and King Charles.

    David Beckham and Prince William
David still has a close connection to future king, William(Image: Getty Images)

Like Harry, William has known David and Victoria for many years and the Beckhams were in Westminster Abbey when he married Kate Middleton back in 2011.

In 2022, David joined both William and Kate when they travelled to Boston for the Prince of Waleses’ second annual Earthshot Prize awards, where he presented one of the prizes at one of William’s main projects. And just last year, David was named a King’s Foundation ambassador .

Just this week, Victoria also received a major show of support from the royals when Princess Kate stepped out wearing a stylish olive trouser suit from Victoria’s fashion brand.

In response to Kate’s outfit choice, a source close to the Beckhams said: “The Princess of Wales has worn Victoria’s designs before and it’s really great to see that she’s wearing one again, especially as the outfit was not gifted and was very much her own call to wear it. Both couples support each other’s charities and David and William are friends too, so there is a great deal of mutual respect there.”

Kate’s show of support for Victoria’s brand will be a big boost for the former Spice Girl. Victoria is said to be ‘heartbroken’ after a falling out with daughter-in-law Nicola Peltz . Earlier this month, reports of a rift between Brooklyn Beckham and the rest of his family were further fuelled when the 26-year-old failed to show up with Nicola to his dad’s 50th bash in Notting Hill, despite being in London at the time.

A source close to Brooklyn and Nicola later claimed that Victoria and David “refused” to see the couple privately ahead of the birthday do, even though they had “travelled all the way to London specifically to try to repair the relationship”. Meanwhile, the Beckhams’ friends have reacted with fury after Nicola’s pals made a series of extraordinary claims about the reason why the rift between Brooklyn and his family emerged .

A pal has suggested that there is “emotional abuse and toxic behaviour” between the family which is why the four are unable to get along. However, David and Victoria reject the claims and are outraged by the suggestions.

A source close to the Beckhams said: “I don’t think anyone who has ever seen David and Victoria with their children would recognise this deeply unpleasant attack. It doesn’t even warrant a response, it’s so ludicrous and patently untrue.”A second source told The Mirror that the couple have been left “open mouthed” after hearing the suggestions.

King Charles is said to be quietly heartbroken over the lack of a relationship with two of his youngest grandchildren – Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet – but, according to insiders, he remains committed to putting duty first.

The monarch, 76, has missed out on key moments in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children’s lives, both of whom are being raised in California, thousands of miles from royal life and tradition. But a source has revealed that the King’s top priority must remain the stability and future of the monarchy, despite reportedly missing his son and grandchildren following their move to the US.

    Archie with Meghan Markle
    Archie is now six-years-old(Image: @meghan/Instagram)

“The King does not like conflict and he would love for this all to be resolved,” the unnamed source told Grazia. “But Harry has to earn the trust back. The ball is in his court in that respect. The King loves his son and he is very sad he has not spent any time with Archie and Lilibet, but Harry hasn’t made reconciliation easy.”

The heartbreaking reality for Charles is that Archie, six, and Lilibet, three, are growing up almost entirely apart from the British royal family – and from the grandfather who reportedly longs to know them.

Since stepping down from royal duties in 2020, Harry and Meghan have made only brief appearances back in the UK, mostly for major family events like Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, King Charles’s coronation, and a visit following the King’s cancer diagnosis earlier this year.

Despite this distance, Charles is said to keep the door open. “He’s a magnanimous man, not a malicious one,” the ‘friend’ said. “But his priority is the preservation of the monarchy.”

    Royal Family gathering
Family relations have remained strained since Harry and Meghan moved to the US(Image: AFP via Getty Images)

Prince Harry, for his part, has signalled a willingness to rebuild his relationship with his distanced family. The Duke of Sussex came back to London briefly earlier this month for a pre-scheduled court visit but failed to meet with his father.

It’s also claimed that Harry’s phone calls are going “unanswered”. But royal experts say words may not be enough. Royal commentator Robert Jobson believes Harry’s overtures could have landed better had he been more direct with his dad.

“Harry should have said to his father: ‘Sorry, I’ve got this wrong; I’ve made a mistake but I want to reconcile,’” Jobson told Hello! magazine. “Reading between the lines, it’s obvious Harry was making overtures to his dad. The only way to settle this and not overshadow the King’s reign is for Charles to bravely offer Harry another opportunity for reconciliation.

“I have the feeling it could have occurred, had Harry not said what he did. The King knows all about forgiveness, having made his own errors. If there’s someone who can rise above and extend an olive branch in these circumstances, it would be him.”

David and Victoria Beckham are steadily approaching the same net worth as King Charles III. The Manchester United legend and his pop star wife, who have been married for almost a quarter of a century, saw their net worth rise by at least a staggering £45million between 2024 and 2025.

According to the Sunday Times Rich List, that takes their total up to the £500m mark. Meanwhile, King Charles, who took the throne following the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in September 2022, saw his own finances grow by £30m in the same time-frame.

His total worth now stands at £640m – the same amount as former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife, Akshata Murty.

Beckham, who turned 50 earlier this month, rose to fame and fortune thanks to an illustrious footballing career. The right-midfielder broke through the youth systems of Tottenham Hotspur and later Manchester United, before signing his first professional contract at Old Trafford in 1992.

After scoring 85 goals and providing 121 assists in 394 appearances, lifting six Premier League titles, four domestic trophies and a Champions League under the guidance of Sir Alex Ferguson, Beckham made the move to Real Madrid in a £25m move in 2003. After four years at the Bernabeu, Beckham spent the twilight years of his career with LA Galaxy, enjoyed loan stints with AC Milan, and wrapped things up with a year at PSG in 2013.

Internationally, the footballing sensation also represented his nation of England on 115 occasions, and will go down in the history books as one of the greatest talents to ever represent the Three Lions. However, Beckham has also made a fortune away from the pitch, through a number of different arenas, having built up his celebrity status from his playing days. Meanwhile, his relationship with Spice Girl Victoria Adams also saw him quickly gain mainstream media attention.

In 2021, Beckham secured a 10-year contract as Qatar’s tourism ambassador, a role that he is reportedly paid £11m annually for. Meanwhile, in 2014, it was announced that Beckham had exercised the option to buy a Major League Soccer expansion team for £18m, which later became Inter Miami CF.

The club made its MLS debut in March 2020. Elsewhere, earlier this month, Beckham and former Manchester United team-mate Gary Neville acquired the ownership of Salford City, alongside Declan Kelly and Lord Mervyn Davies.

Speaking on the move, he said: “I grew up in Salford… I have such fond memories of my time living there and the place and its people played such an important part in my early life in football. Salford City is at the heart of its community… it has a rich history and I am delighted to be a part of the next chapter.”

On top of all that, Beckham’s personal brand empire, DRJB Holdings, has certainly earned him a fortune over time.

Meanwhile, Victoria made a name for herself as part of the 1990s pop group the Spice Girls – who have sold more than 100m records worldwide and are still the best-selling girl group of all time.

However, Victoria also branched off into the world of fashion after finding fame in the music industry, launching her own label, VB, in September 2008. She also launched the Victoria Beckham Beauty brand in September 2019.

King Charles III still sits £140m better off than the Beckhams, however, largely thanks to his Sandringham and Balmoral estates. Meanwhile, managing the Duchy of Cornwall – a private estate established almost 700 years ago to provide financial assistance to the heir of the throne – is also thought to have helped boost his finances dramatically.

This, of course, pales when compared to the total net worth of the Royal Family, which was estimated to have been at around £22billion in 2021, and is made up of a number of avenues including the Crown Estate.

  • Leonardo DiCaprio ‘screamed’ at Robert De Niro as he praises actor for ‘changing my life’

Leonardo DiCaprio ‘screamed’ at Robert De Niro as he praises actor for ‘changing my life’

Leonardo DiCaprio has recalled ‘screaming’ in Hollywood icon Robert De Niro’s face just minutes after they first met over three decades ago, praising the actor for ‘changing his life’

Leonardo DiCaprio has recalled how he ‘screamed’ at Robert De Niro as a young actor trying to stand out to the legendary star, in a move which proved successful.

The Titanic star, 50, presented his mentor and longtime friend Robert with the honorary Palme d’Or award at Cannes Film Festival’s opening ceremony on Tuesday, and took a trip down memory lane while doing so.

Stepping out in front of the ceremony’s audience – which included the likes of Eva Longoria and Bella Hadid – Leonardo described Robert as an ‘inspiration’.

“I was one of the many very lucky kids who had the incredible opportunity to audition for and ultimately work with him early in my career on This Boy’s Life. The audition process was a tough one, there was lots of competition. Nervous who would get the part, at 15 or 16 years old, I did the only think I could think to stand out, I screamed at him at the top of my lungs. The room burst into laughter,” recalled Leonardo.

Continuing that his quick thinking ended up getting him the job, Leonardo said, “Later that day, as the story goes, Bob was getting on his plane with his producer Art Linson, who asked, ‘Who do you want to play the part?’. And in classic De Niro fashion, he replied, ‘second kid from the last’, luckily, that second kid was me. And that moment changed my life forever.”

Praising Robert’s mentorship and acting skills, Leonardo then welcomed the star to the stage to present him with the coveted gong – which has previously been awarded to Meryl Streep and Woody Allen, amongst many others.

Amid a two-minute standing ovation from the crowd, which left Robert with a tear in his eye, he and Leonardo shared a hug on stage as the latter proudly handed over the award.

After showing his appreciation to the film festival and Leonardo, Robert turned to politics and asked the star-filled room to take action against Donald Trump.

Slamming the US president as a ‘fascist’, the New York-born actor said, “In my country we are fighting like hell for the democracy we once took for granted. And that affects all of us,” said Robert, who told the crowd “this is not just America’s problem”.

“America’s philistine president, who has had himself appointed head of one of our premier cultural institutions, he has cut funding and support to the arts, humanities and education. And now he announced a 100% tariff on films produced outside of the US. Let that sink in for a minute. You can’t put a price on creativity, but apparently you can put a tariff on it,” he said.

Robert ended his speech by urging the industry to ‘take action’ and ‘fight’ against the ‘unacceptable’ rulings of President Trump.

Jacqueline Jossa took to Instagram hours after husband Dan Osborne said he is ‘close to dropping everything’. The EastEnders star took to the social media platform to share her own cryptic message as the pair’s marriage continues to be speculated.

The 32-year-old actress and former TOWIE star, 33, tied the knot in 2017. However, they were thought to have gone their separate ways last month after announcing their split. They jetted off for a “make or break” family holiday in Mexico last month, though, and appeared to be getting on.

However, they have both now took to social media to hint things could be hitting the rocks again. On his own Instagram, Dan wrote: “This close to dropping everything & moving to Dubai,” alongside a picture of an okay hand emoji.

Jacqueline had also admitted to missing the “little bubble of happiness” she found on her recent holiday. Sharing to her Stories she uploaded snaps from the luxury trip.

She wrote: “Give anything to be back here, with the same people and just be at peace.” She continued: “I’ve always been one to love a holibobs, but honestly since being back at work full time I cherish the time off so much more.

“The only time I can properly unwind and switch off. Miss the sound of the sea and the quiet that’s not actually quiet but you hear the kids in the pool as you lay there. Bliss. Miss the little bubble of happiness that nothing effects.”

The star added: “I don’t even miss the sun like I used to (used to love to sunbath_ now I can’t sit in t too long. It’s the time, time is so important.”

It’s not known if the images and words were regarding the family’s latest trip.

Last month sources said the pair were focusing on their two children, daughters Ella, 10, and Mia, six, as their priority and they were finding their split “hard to navigate.” But Jacqueline later hinted that she was preparing for a major chapter in her life.

Sharing a snaps herself overlooking the ocean during sunset, she said: “Can’t wait for more mornings like this.” She added: “One day I will live abroad somewhere with a beautiful view.”

Jacqueline continued: “Well needed couple of weeks rest (as much as you can with kids),” alongside a laughing emoji.

During their getaway, the had looked every inch the in love couple as they were spotted relaxing around the swimming pool soaking up the Central American sunshine and scorching temperatures.

Speaking to the Mirror, a source said the pair were “trying to fall back in love with each other again.”

They explained: “They’ve had a rocky, up and down relationship so now they’re trying to do things differently and give each other more space at home, while enjoying this holiday. Jacqueline and Dan want to be together for their children and do want to be a family, but now it’s a case of remembering why they were together in the first place. It’s been a tough road and they know things need to change to make this work.”
